It has been it's been a weekend, once you first of all want to thank everybody that came
out and saw Grace descending yesterday and above and beyond, sure, it had a great time.
It is a little warm in there, but it had a great time with our friends in our
comics anonymous, helping them celebrate another year of their program over there.
We live in a fourth anniversary of that ministry, so God bless them.
This Saturday, we are going to be out in Quinlan, Texas.
We are going to talk about that just a little bit later, but I want to thank everybody.
Also, I am going to quick shout out to a friend of mine, Claire Stager, who was in town
from Boston, for a conference, got to have dinner with her last night, knowners since
I was in the sixth grade, pretty much known her 75% of my life.
So we have dinner along with friends of the show, a Phil and Shane and Mar, and a friend
of the show.
Julie Wake got to have dinner with her on Friday night, because anytime somebody from
back in the day comes in town, we want to make sure that they are welcomed, had a great
time last night, and I've really been trying to take it easy today, but had a lot's
going on, man.
And it's not slowing down, but that's just that is the life that we choose.
Alright, let's get right into it into corrections, have a couple of them from our last
couple of episodes.
One that we didn't cover at blues, House of Blues that we needed to.
We were not sure if Frank Gorshin was still with us or not, he's not, he passed away
May 17th, 2005, so we're a little slow on the other side.
Wow, I feel like a jerk, and in last week's show, I was talking about the sting deal with
Hogan, that they did the video package for, he actually had them in the Scorpion Death
Lock.
He didn't have them in a small package.
That was my mistake.
How to go back and watch that again.
Oh, there is that.
Anything that you need to correct from last week's episode, so I want to thank everybody

The Emmys were last Sunday hosted by Andy Sandberg.

to come back a little bit more every day and he said, you know, I'm feeling more like
myself today.
So I have to have to party with me a lot of people getting pregnant.
Yeah.
That was a predictable at all.
I loved that.
But you got bus him.
He's going to be hosting SNL in a couple of weeks.
First time back on television was this past Sunday at the Emmys.
God bless the guy.
So unfortunately, a Drew in 11.1 worst ratings in the history of the Emmys last week.
Yikes.
Well, I mean, have you ever been a fan of that particular awards broadcast?
Not particularly, but I also do wonder if the network change affected it.
Probably.
I mean, that's when you think the Emmys, where do you think to look to watch it?
On.
I don't know where, where, where do you, on ABC, no, it's only an NBC on NBC, it was on Fox last
week.
All that's right, because it was, they were, they were leading into it with the football
games and everything.
They were showing red carpet footage and stuff.
You would have thought maybe that would have brought one of the Fox had their NFL crew
on the red carpet.
And I heard that was a train ride.
Yeah.
That was probably not a really smart move.
We were a little busy with not a champions, so we were not watching.
But good news for a show that you are an incredibly big fan of and you really are trying
to go to me into getting caught up on the show and you know my response, I have too many
shows now, but I've heard such good things.
I'm not downing the show.
I just don't have room for the show in my current repertoire.
Empire comes back strong.
16 million viewers.
Yeah.
It was a heck of a kickoff.
And what is the main demographic we always look at when we look at television ratings?
18 to 40.
18 to 49.
20 share.
That means one in five people between the ages of 18 and 49 were on the Fox network last
Wednesday night.
Now I don't know if that takes into account the plus 2s and the plus 3s.
I don't think it does because when I read this story, it was the day after the airing
of the episode.
So that numbers probably higher than you, you're still in a time when I'm going to
put a plus 2 in a plus 3.
This is people that have it on their DVR that watch it within two days and watch it within
three days.
Okay.
This is actually become a thing with Nielsen, where they're actually clocking that in
some of their homes.
That's good.
I mean, I should catch that.
But we've talked about that all along.
It's like you need to count these numbers because these are still people watching
these shows.
So you should really include it.
So they're doing the plus 2 in the plus 3 and they really the only reason I know about
that was because of the horrible dixie Carter interview on the Stone Cold podcast.
Because they are living on those numbers right now.
They've got nothing else to really thrive on.
Congratulations to the Dennis Leary, sex and drugs and rock and roll.
It's picked up for season two.
It's kind of rollercoastery for me.
I mean, you're a fan of it overall.
I've been enjoying it for no reason because of Leary.
Leary and the the girl that places daughters absolutely beautiful.
And it's he and the he and his guitars have really good back and forth like his good
chemistry there.
I've never been a big fan of Robert Kelly.
He plays the drummer but he's kind of funny on the show.
I'm trying to recall who what I've seen him in.
If you're an O and A fan, you know exactly who he is.

I just I know him is Bob Kelly in our Robert Kelly.

They just are there serious talks underway.

But Sunday night football in America.
And they're showing football highlights.

It had moments.

I don't know that we need to turn the Muppets into an adult format in sitcom.

I'm not sure who they have as as the staff writers.
But they have a 2015 sensibility.
They're not going to keep it old school.
They're going to write for an audience of today.
I hope I hope I get some get some writings under it.

The Splat will debut next Monday night at 10 Eastern.
This has been a big deal.
And I don't know if you've heard about what this is.

This is a new Nickelodeon channel.
That I think is going to split time with team Nick or it's going to take over team Nick one or two.
It's just their 90s programming.
So basically you can't do that on television.
That's 80s.
That's 80s.
It's going to be an instanti.
Rugrats.
Things of things of it.
Yeah.
Everything they showed in the 90s will be on the station.
That should get some pretty good viewership.
Because I know that.
But they showed instanti or just MTV.
I thought they did some of the right instanti on that.

A lot of people very excited about this.

It's like it's just her way and the bed and the alarm goes off.
They're playing loving you.
And she just kind of reaches over.

There's a UK anthology series called Dark Mirror.
It's kind of a modern Twilight Zone.

And I've heard people that hate it.
My fast Jules about it.
Netflix is picking it up for a revival.
But it's been a long time since we had a show like that.
That was like an anthology series that was kind of different every week with different stories and different characters.
Well, I just wanted that vein that I've ever really cared about, though, was Tales from the Crypt.
That was a long time ago.
Because I guess that was after amazing stories, wasn't it?
Yeah.
And these stories really never got its legs under it.
No.
And it had some great moments.
The one that always sticks in my head is the one with the.
The.
The belly gunner stuck in the in the in the bomber.
And the belly of the bomber.
And they were going to crush him whenever they landed in.
Was it him that was the cartoon artist or somebody on the plane was a cartoon artist.
I just slept since then.
But you barely.
But I still remember the one I'm talking to.
Yeah.
It's the one that very, very spill burgian.
Because he was involved in that show.
But that one really felt like a spill burg moment.

Better for them to do an NFL all-star break?
To do it right in the middle of the season. Just like baseball does just like hockey does just like basketball does
And you know you know, it doesn't even have to be a full contact game. I would even make it like a flag game
And do it just at different places around the country?
Okay, you know, don't have a Monday night game the week before
You're actually no you can have the Monday night game the week before, but not the night after
And have a full week start on Tuesday
Where the players get together and inform their their plays
Do the game on a Saturday
So that way everybody could use Sunday to get back with their teams and Monday we're back to practice
I'm good with that at least it would make it mean something because do
It doing it after the Super Bowl is a terrible idea. It always has been
You know, we're just gonna cut these guys checked just because you know, they don't make enough money
They go hang out and Hawaii
And do nothing and a game that's

Because one thing we know about all star games is there is no defense and you really can't like you can't with the NFL
You can't make anything on the line because the Super Bowl is where it is right

I want to see it's right before the NHL all start break. If not the NBA all start break
Yeah, because I remember whenever we had the NBA all start game year
It was when we got that big snowstorm and it was right around the Super Bowl the the following year

It'd be more fun for the fans. Yeah, because they could actually maybe afford to go there
Maybe possibly and maybe have it where the Super Bowl's going to be the next year

Is to do it the same weekend and Saturday night be the college national championship where the Super Bowl's gonna be the next year and then Super Bowl

To say that now it just sounds like you're trying to make excuses. It does and I understand that as a kid
You have to listen to your coach and your coach is trying to guide you, but at certain at certain times

It's just 10 films or franchises that were much better than I thought they were going to be that they are enough that they more than more than lived up to

I went in cold and walked out just being you know completely blown away by it fair enough

Yeah, I can't say the next seed expectations. I enjoyed it. I just didn't have any expectations
It's that the scene at the end. I'm not gonna spoil anything but the scene at the end when he goes back
Okay, always gets me it's like every just something about the the way that the
Music is is played the way the scene itself plays out. It just it always gets to me and it's if a film can do that with that kind of subject matter
It's accomplished something in my book
Number nine boyhood
Because when that when that when that when that when that movie finally
Released on home video. I remember watching it about five six times
That the week that it that it dropped just showing it to other people going I was not expecting
This movie to wow me the way that it did because it was such brave bold filmmaking

And I have to be in the absolute minority here
I didn't I mean I liked boyhood
But it didn't jazz me like it jazzed everybody else well
Just just on the simple fact that when you hear the premise of the film you're thinking okay, so what

Given what went into getting that film to the screen to me is is is mind blowing in itself that that you can
Be committed to something for that long of a period of time and it came out rock solid and it yeah
I mean like I said I enjoyed it. It just didn't it didn't do for me what it did for a lot of people just saying number eight
Shawshank
Really because I had high high high bar going into that. I knew nothing about it really really I knew I knew didly about fair enough
And given the fact that
Knowing that it was a Stephen King story and we know what Stephen King's track record is like cinematically
That's up and down your expectations are pretty much low to begin with and
You mentioned this film to almost anybody
That is a fan of film and they talk about it in reverent tones
It's it is an amazing film that you just don't really expect to get that good fair enough
Number seven number seven casino royale
After yeah, another day and the well, it shoot after the three bond films that preceded it and given the fact that this was a brand new bond
Made by an actor that we really didn't know all that much about
My expectations were really low after the scene
But the problem is I always set the bar high for a bond film regardless of what it is because it's changed
fun well, you know, but given the three strikes that had come before it
I was like okay, and you saw it you said trust me trust me on this and I went out and bought it on DVD
Side unseen on your word
And I
Came a well I say wrong so no, no, you would not I became a bond fan all over again just on the strength of that film
Because I was pretty much ready to jump ship really I mean the the the last three
Brosnan films were so tarnished so tarnished the legacy of bond fair enough that I was ready to walk away
Number six number six iron man
See that's the one I'm gonna agree with you because my my thoughts going into iron man
Like I remember the theater I saw it in with friend of the show Richard Sheely in Oklahoma City
He was I thought at the drive in and he was like dude. We got to go
I'm like really and he's like no, dude really no, I'm like it's it's iron man like I've never been a huge iron man fan
same here and we had him he and I were the only people in the theater and

As soon as I saw the first trailer I was like yeah, we're gonna be fine
But we've been deceived by trailers before I just I had the gut feeling after I saw the trailer for this one
Speaking of Iron Man. He's now on our television because they're advertising the release of a
Age of Ultra my my hopes were high, but I was like can this guy pull this off? I had concerns I had fears
Seeing the trailer. I'm like okay, you're you're getting there and then walking out of the theater with my
picking up brain matter off the floor. I remember
It completely exceeded my expectations because I really didn't know what my expectations were
Fair enough and the fact that these films were so good. Yes, they were
Consistently although towers dragged a little bit
Well with talking you're gonna get a certain level of that yeah, it it was kind of unavoidable
I mean if they had gone word for word in from the books
Really what it drives yeah
Number three number three man bronze metal position mad max fury road. So I might let's haven't seen it yet
Cannot believe I don't know anybody that hasn't liked it
I cannot believe how awestruck I was by that film because I wasn't a huge fan of the mad max series
I enjoyed them. I enjoyed them true, but I was like it also had thunder

I know I've probably oversoul the heck of it. There's there's no way you're going to enjoy it as much as I did
See that's what my concern is now so many people have told me how great it is that
I'm I'm worried about watching it a little bit because you just don't expect it to be as good as it is

Lawrence Arabia
See by the time I'd seen it I'd heard so much about it that
It was like okay, I see the hype and see and I hadn't heard all that much other than the fact that this was one of the films
It inspired Spielberg to make film and
Growing up as as in the era that we did where was a lot of
Things blowing up real pretty yeah stuff's gonna explode and there were explosions in this but
a lot of it was dialogue
But the film is so beautifully constructed it is it is it is why it is not on on the top of everyone's list of greatest films
They're made still stuns me because I know there are other films that that bump it from that list constantly
Sometimes quiet it's recognized before Lawrence does and I don't I love bridge on the word required
I do too, but it it will never hold the same place in my heart that it that Lawrence of Arabia holds
Now I had several runners up on this list okay

I'll agree to there. I had good expectations but not not nearly as good as it was when when when the credits rolled pitch perfect
We were not expecting to like that film that much. I had to make you sit down because I remember when I saw it
I got you knocked on my door and I was 20 minutes in it. I'm like I'm starting this over
I was like you're gonna sit down here. You're gonna watch this movie with me

Gilmouro d'Otoro kind of had a had a trifecta for me. Where back Rim was good. It wasn't great for me
But I wasn't again wasn't expecting to do like it as much as I did
The JJ Star Trek
Blue both of us out of the water the first parts the Caribbean film
I thought there's no way they're gonna be able to make this a decent film if they're basking on a theme park ride and it was great taken
Take in yeah first taken film. I was like
Oh, God I'll go check it out and my the end. I was like everybody has to see this movie right now
Hotel Transylvania
I haven't seen the first one, but you've seen the sex you said so much enjoyed it. Yeah
Similar flavor you weren't expecting to go like at that much John Wick. I know you haven't seen it
I know it's on my list and thank you friend of the show

Really I wasn't expecting to like it that much because I had just seen poltergeist
New spulbergs involvement and then of course I was really young when this thing came out
And didn't think that he was gonna be able to put out two films that close together and
Maintain that level and of course E.T. became the the phenomenon that it did and last but not least
Nolan's Batman films
Given what we were handed the last couple of films around the trailer. It's real or helped me out a lot on that one too
But yeah, they were all amazing yeah
And I know that was a pretty hefty list because it basically came with a top 20. Yeah, it was really rough for me to whittle this thing down
But see what you can come up with on something like this. I am not off the top of my head because I'm tired
No, no, I'm not saying right now. I'm just saying. No, we might do that other one down the list cool down the way it works for me. All right anything else. That's it. All right. Let's do the plugs
