It is 701 on the east coast, it is 401 on the west coast, it is the 27th of August
in the year of our Lord 2017. It is season 8. It is episode 7, 410 times. This voice has
welcomed you to the clubhouse podcast live every Sunday night, 7 Eastern for Pacific,
your one stop shop for all things pop culture. We're glad you're with us, whether you're
listening live on Ustream, whether you're checking us out on our archive or whether you
subscribe to this show and your favorite podcast app. We're just happy you're here as we
are less than a month away from fall. My name is Rob, I'm the executive producer of the clubhouse
podcast and this is our last live show before we're going to take a two week break, but that doesn't
mean you're not going to get content. We're going to talk about that later on the show. We've got
some really cool stuff coming up for you while I'm on vacation and we're going to talk all about
that as the evening goes on. But I am not alone because I never am except for one time and we all
know how that went. Sitting in the co-host shared night chat still on assignment. We'll keep you
updated when he'll be returning. But sitting in his chair tonight is the lady of the house and she
gets the award for coolest t-shirt in the room. She is Jen Roan, welcome friend. Good evening everyone.
As we move around clockwise around the dais is a man who's here for a very specific reason and not
just because people do mistake him from one of the guys on Game of Thrones. He is the ginger ninja,
he is the king of bowling. He is Andrew Beckup. Welcome sir. I'm glad to be here.
For shadowing and finishing out the dais back from his two weeks stint in San Antonio.
He is the official fact checker of this show and a man who we were talking in pre-show. Maybe
headed back down there but he's going to do so willingly because he's that kind of dude,
which is why we love him so much. You may know him as fond don go but his mom and even don't
afford. I'm going to call him down for it. Welcome sir. Well we made it out before the storm you know
and we made it back but if I work for the state and help with you know aid in the form I'll leave it
at that but if they ask me to go down and help in Houston and in Corpus and all that and just
stuck right in the microphone down there you ask me to work you know you know seven days a week 12
hours a day I'll go because people need that. And again we want to send our thoughts and prayers
out to everybody in South Texas that is dealing with Hurricane Harvey now down to a tropical storm
but you know we're not out of the woods yet people. For those of you that have reached out to us
thank you. We are way far north and way far inland. We've gotten a little bit of rain but we are
okay. We have not heard of anybody that we personally know that's having any problems down there
but that does not mean that the people down there are not because we have empire members in that area
and we want to let you know that we're with you. Last night I went to the Lady Ann Bellum concert
and they announced during that show that all of the proceeds from last night's merch sales were
going to aid the people in South Texas. That's so cool. So thank you to Lady Ann Bellum and
to the KC Ballerini, Kelsey Ballerini something like that and Brett James opened the show. It's a good
show. We'll talk about that in music talk. We have a couple of we have one correction update from
last week. Jen your battleground record was four and seven. Okay. And you gave it a C plus. So
we'll talk more about that. We've got a long pay-per-view break right now. We don't have another pay-per-view
until September 24th for no mercy. So it's kind of nice to not have pay-per-views for a week for a
while. It gives me time to study. So let's get into NASCAR. Today was the Bass Pro Shops NRA
Night Race. It was last night at Bristol. Your top 10 finishers are as follows. Starting in
10th place and winding up in 10th place. That's the Vegas rule to win because it's a break even.
They call him the stone Ryan Blaney. Kyle Larson, attorney at law starts in the silver medal,
winds up in 9th place in the number 42 Chevrolet. Kevin Harvick in the number 4 Ford starts in 29th,
winds up in 8th. Trevor Bain, apparently now in NXT. He is in the number 6 Ford, started in
20th, winds up in 7th. Ryan, hello Newman, started in 13th, winds up in 6th and the number 31
Chevrolet. And the number 41 Ford, Kurt Busch, starts in 25th, winds up in 5th. Your top 4 finishers
all in Toyota's this week. Matt Kenseth, and he wins the second stage. So he gets points there.
He's in the number 20 Toyota. He starts in 5th, winds up in 4th. Denny Hamlin. I'd like that with
some hash browns in a nice chocolate milk place. And the number 11 Toyota, he starts in 7th, winds
up in the bronze medal. Silver medal goes to Rookie Eric Jones, who was in the pole position,
and only dropped to 2nd place. And starting in 18th and winning the race last night, Kyle Busch
in the number 18 Toyota. So let's go to your monster energy NASCAR point standings.
Because God knows they need to add more sponsors to this thing. Right now in 16th place,
is Eric Jones, but he's tied with Ryan, hello Newman. They are both, let's see, 9 points behind
Joey Lagnano. Joey Lagnano is 3 points behind Kurt Busch. Kurt Busch is right around 37 points
back on the stone Ryan Blaney, 7 times 7 times 7 times 7 times 7 times 7 times 7 times,
spring cup champion or whatever they're calling it this week. Jimmy Johnson is 5 points ahead of
Blaney. He actually is in 11th place. He actually finished this week's race in 11th place.
He is 24 points ahead of behind Clint Boer. Boer is about 68 points behind Jamie McMurray.
McMurray is 3 points behind Matt Kenzith. Kenzith is 8 back on Chase Elliott, the new sheriff in
town. He is 7 points behind Brad Keselowski. Keselowski is 25 points back on Hamlin. Hamlin is
69 points back on Harvick. Harvick is 21 points back on Kyle Larson. Kyle Larson is 5 points back
on Kurt Busch and Busch is 101 points up in the lead. He also has 35 playoff points. I've
forgotten how that works. Don't ask me. So that being said, let's talk about the next couple of
weeks. Like I said, we're going to be off for two weeks. So next Sunday at 3 p.m. Eastern will
be at Watkins Glen for the I Love New York 355. I'm sorry, that was August of 6. I have to learn to
read. Next Sunday because the next Sunday is holiday weekend. September 3rd is going to be a night
race 6 o'clock Eastern. What they call that day night because it'll start before the lights. It'll end
under the lights. The Bojangles Southern 500 from Darlington. It'll be on your local NBC sports
network affiliate. And for those of you that have missed, oh Russ is on in the chat room since
his cousins are visiting from Houston. So we're glad that they're safe with you out there Russ.
Please give them our best. So next week Bojangles for those of you that haven't listened to the show
lately. Bojangles is a fried chicken fast food joint mostly in the southeast. I'm a big fan of
the Bojangles. There's the Bojangles and then there's the Popeyes chicken. They're kind of
vicious. How are they compared to bushes? Bushes is kind of a completely different deal. Okay. Bojangles
sounds interesting. Is there one around here? I don't know that there's any in Texas. You're at the
fact checker. You should find these things out. And then on September the 9th. That's also
a night race. So you have two races next week. And that will be the Federated Auto Parts 400
Richmond also on NBC sports network. Oh, Russ says they're in Houston visiting. Okay. Well,
we hope they're safe brother. I apologize. I totally read your post wrong. And then we'll be back
on the air Sunday September 17th. And we've talked about that race before. But we're going to hold
off on that because it's just so weird. Weirdly named looks like the closest ones in Alabama.
Okay. That's southeast. But they got it, you know, mostly South Carolina. Carolina contact
Tennessee Georgia. All right. So let's let's get into some TV. We have a lot of stuff on the run
sheet this week. So we want to get moving because we want to get it get off air in time for me to
get all this done so we can watch Game of Thrones. Andrew, you're more than welcome to hang out for
Game of Thrones. If you like. Okay. I may do that. So that way you don't have to, you're not,
you know, people aren't trying to blow you up and spoil things. Right. So like a friend of the show
recently did to me. All right. Let's talk TV. Tonight is the Game of Thrones season seven finale.
This this episode will be an hour and 25 minutes long.
This season has every season that show gets better. I have renamed this entire season. Everybody
goes gangster. And it has. Like how the show was just like talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk,
talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk. In this season, oh, all that talk, talk, talk,
came to me. And all I'm saying is there are people that are getting caught up. We don't ruin anything
on the show. Oh no. Just get caught up because there's one season left.
How many episodes next year? Seven? Seven or eight.
And they're apparently all going to be extended episodes. But apparently they I've heard rumors
that they are filming now. But they're not saying when they're going to air. Hopefully before
the next summer Olympics. That's what I'm pulling for right now. Yeah.
If you remember a couple of years ago, the CW on their CW seed S E E D, which is their their
mobile app, they also they do certain exclusive short shows on there. There's a character on
the legends of tomorrow named Vixen. They don't name her that, but that's who she is. She also made
an appearance on Arrow. If you remember, Andrew, you with me? Yep. They did a web series, an animated
series about here called Vixen. But this Wednesday night at eight Eastern, they're doing what they're
calling Vixen the movie where they're taking all of the animated episodes and putting them together.
Oh, I see. So I set my DVR today. I just read about it today. So it's it's called Vixen the movie.
This Wednesday night eight Eastern on the CW. For those of you that are like me and are waiting
the return of Riverdale with Vated Breath, they have given that it will be I want to say it's October
the 10th. Nice. So that's your return date on that. Why are the return dates so late? They're
getting later and later. I don't know. It seems like everybody's not starting until late September
early October now. Yeah. It's been it's been September for a while. But it's just been late September
like the last four or five years. It's just weird. It's usually like Labor Day and then here we go.
Yeah, I guess it I was thinking it was always like mid September because we were in school a few
weeks of school had passed before the show started back up. And then before we go on break for
holidays, they're off again. Maybe are they doing are they doing shorter runs? Maybe it's got to be
because like like SNL and that's our next story SNL announced their season premiere will be September
30th. Oh, wow. They announced this week. It's going to be Ryan Gosling will be your host. JZ is your
musical guest. That's like the host. That's the way to start it off. Well, I will tell you this. I've
watched all of those episodes that they did of the weekend updates summer edition. Very much
enjoyed those. Jen and I were actually my wife Jen and I were actually talking about it. And it
seems like because it's a full it's a half an hour of just weekend update and there's little bits
that they do and stuff. It seems better paced than the actual weekend update on the show. It's very
strange. But it was very, very good. I enjoyed all of it. So hopefully they'll be bringing that back
again maybe next summer. I would like to see them do it every week, but it's just me.
Epics has renewed their series version of Get Shorty for season two. And in news that
Fred of the show Maddie Mars going to be very happy about she and I talked about this at the
concert last night. Let me just tell you something. You haven't lived until you've gone to a concert
with a 17 year old and her friend. Our smile in those photos was huge. That's my that's got
died. I love that girl. The death and she had a heat. She's crushing pretty hard on the
Brett James. She's got good taste. Oh my goodness. Listening to her that entire set was my stomach hurt
from laughing. And he was the first act. But thanks again to Phil Mar for taking me out there.
We'll talk more about that in music talk because a couple of interesting things last night.
Let's see the Duffer Brothers. I was talking about Maddie. They have said season three of
stranger things is good to go, but they're thinking season four. Maybe it.
That makes sense. No pun intended. Netflix has also renewed friends from college for season two that
has Keegan Michael Key and Fred Savage in it. I've heard very good things about it. And they've
renewed last chance you for season three. Charlotte was a big fan of the show. This is about a junior
college where guys that get in trouble in bigger programs go to get one last shot to play football.
It's I've heard really really good things about this show. Amazon has renewed transparent for season five
which seems to be cleaning up all the awards lately, especially at the Emmys.
Anna Diop if you if you remember who she is. Andrew do you know that name at all? It sounds familiar.
I just I just lost who she was. Let me fold that up for you. Transition her in something recently
and it's driving me crazy. Oh, she was a dawn. Yeah. Anna Diop was the girlfriend of the main
character in 24 legacy. Okay. The one that had the ex-boyfriend that was the drug dealer. Yeah.
She is going to be playing starfire in the live action teen Titan series. That's just going to be
called Titans. Really? That the CW is going to be carrying. You want to like a CW pen and tell
our foodless. I like that show. Pen and teller what? For us. I thought that was on Showtime. Oh no,
that's a different show they haven't show time. Yeah. That's cool. That's pretty cool.
Pendulette the the dock of musicians because if you when I first met Doc, he had really long
hair and really thick glasses and he looked just like Pendulette without the perm. And Pendulette
does not look like the Pendulette we grew up. Well, he lost all the way. Yeah. He's still been. Yeah.
He's been. He's still great. Katie Sackoff is joining the flash this season. She'll be playing
blacksmith. Oh nice. That was announced. And James Gunn, you may know him as the director of both
Guardians of the Galaxy films. He is working with Sony on a reboot of Starsky and Hutch.
That I will see. Long as it doesn't have one Wilson. He's involved with it. So I will see a movie
reboot or TV TV. Okay. That's right. But TV on DVD and Blu-ray this week season three of Gotham
if you choose to punish yourself in that way. Season three of Star Wars Rebels as we're getting
ready for the final season of that show season four of black sales. My my wife enjoyed this for
about the first season and then she kind of fell off. Yeah. That's the same like exact same white.
The original season four. Go ahead. I was going to say a friend of the show Alex Barnhill loved
black sales. He got me to try and watch season fours the final season in it. Yeah. Yeah.
The final season but he he loves that show. So if he just weighs a little longer,
they'll probably put the whole thing in one big box. And so I know what to get in for Christmas.
There you go. The original season four. This is the vampire diary spinoff.
Also Chicago fire season five. Chicago med season two. Chad is big into all of the Chicago
shows. He and Jules love those shows. So those will be elementary season five. I can't believe
that show's been on for five years. Lucy Lou. How you doing?
So tiny. A British see a show called Ripper Street season five. This is about Jack the
Ripper. And speaking hold on to that because we've got more interesting Jack the Ripper
in entertainment news coming up in movie talk as well. And season 14 of NCIS if you can believe
that that'll be available on DVD and Blu-ray this week. You are listening to the Clubhouse podcast
like we said earlier. Oh, Russ just gave us an interesting little tidbit as we're getting into
some other things. And I'll I'll even do this now instead of movies or music talk. The ACL Austin
City limits. There are season 43 premiere will be October 7th Ed Sheeran on the ACL. Nice.
Big fan. I have to set the DVR for that one. There's a really good um documentary out there
about the history of ACL. I believe it's called a song for you. I saw it last year at the
Dallas International Film Festival. And I was gonna say it's still a few weeks out but I have already
pre-ordered my copy of Wonder Woman. Good. Yeah. I think it's digital this week. It's
the physical copies. The owning an actual hard copy. I think it's the 17th it'll be delivered.
So we'll be back. So I think I think it I think digital is this week actually. But I have pre-ordered
my copy of all the wonderfulness of that. And I'm waiting on my guardian this too as well.
Speaking of her I watched keeping up with the Joneses this weekend. Oh yes. Okay. Okay.
It takes a little bit. It takes a little long to get to where it's going. It really does.
But I'm a big fan of everybody involved. I love Fisher. How you doing? Got to go. How you doing?
Did you find Gallifinakis over the top a little bit? He's always over the top though.
It was weird seeing him. That's skinny. It really was. That was weird for me.
All right. So let's get into POI while we were while we were talking and kind of got our
wheels blown off a little bit. Let's talk about the next couple of weeks. I am going to be out of
town. I'm going home for about 10 days. I'm flying out Saturday morning to go to Florida and see
and we I shout out to people all the time. But I really want to shout out to the Hanson family.
Tom Hanson, which is weird because when I first met him it was in the late 80s during the
heyday of 21 Jump Street and Johnny Desk character on 21 Jump Street thing was Tom Hanson.
Tom was my youth director when I was a kid. And he and I have always been very close. His kids
are the very first humans to ever call me Uncle Rob. Josh and Gabby who they are in my heart.
And this will be the third year in a row that I get to spend some time with them at a thing
that Disney does called Night of Joy. That'll be the weekend after Labor Day. But I haven't
been able to take a vacation this summer. So I was like, you know what? I'm just going to take
Labor Day week off and I'm going to chill and I can fly out Thursday night just like we always do.
I'll fly back Sunday. I'll take Monday off and Tom goes, no, no, no. Why don't we just fly it down
the weekend before? You can stay with us. You can hang out at the pool. You can see your friends.
We'll go to Disney for Night of Joy. We'll come back. We'll fly it back Monday. Take Tuesday off
and go out to work Wednesday. I said, yes, yes, I would like to do that. And hit remaining brothers.
Oh, well, that's going to happen. I have an agenda, sir. I have an agenda. Yeah.
So I'll be flying out and spending some time back in my hometown just outside of Fort Lauderdale.
I'm looking forward to seeing everybody and just decompressing for a while because I haven't
been able to do that. It's been things have been just 90 to nothing. But that does not mean we're
not giving you content. We're going to give you two iTunes exclusives this week because both of
the movies that Don and I will be screening are coming out this coming Friday. Yeah. Next week
and this is already done. This show is already complete. It's in the can. All I got to do is upload it.
Don completely took me off guard last weekend. I'm sitting in church and my phone's blowing up and
it's like it's not even a text message. There's just nothing there until I open it and it's all
these audio files. I'm like, Don, what are you doing? And they just keep coming. So I hit one of them
and I'm like, okay, that's what this is. Don actually was able to take some time out. We talked
a couple of weeks ago about we were really bummed out because we weren't going to get to cover that
the women Texas film festival put on by friends of the show. Yeah. And so Don was able to squeeze
into his schedule some time to go out there and interview some filmmakers and some actors and
some producers. So he sent me those files. I've got them edited down and I've actually we're
going to do a show out of it. But we've already done one and it's going to air next Sunday night.
I'm going to upload that when I'm in Florida because I can do that. And you'll be able to hear
everything that Don talked about. I guess that apparently he's very bonded with and that's all I'm
going to say. I'm not going to say how you'll figure it out when you listen to the show. Don did a
great job. So look forward. Again, this wasn't us doing a live show. Don did all of this. All I
did was put it together and talk in between the segments. Yeah, I had to red carpet that night.
They had two nights red carpets and I hit one of them. And you know, John really the great John
wildman for the show. John and them were we're working that in they really appreciate us taking
a time to do that because I wish we could have done a live show. I really do. You were in San Antonio.
I was in Ohio just wasn't going to work out. The great faith forward fantastic faith for she was like,
yeah, let's do this. You know, so thank you for getting that done, brother. Yeah, I was only
in town for about 36 hours indeed. So, but during that time I was able to go, I got about what 10
your views, right? You got 10 interviews done. We did the red carpet. And they're all going to be
part of the show. It's it's about the show itself runs about now. It's let's just under an hour.
Then two weeks from tonight, we're good. I've been threatening to do something for years and
I'm finally going to get it done two weeks from tonight. Make sure that and these are going to be
iTunes exclusives. I'm not going to air them through you stream just because all I have to do is
click other things to get that done. And I want to be on vacation. But two weeks from tonight,
we are going to re air the very first episode of this show from July the 10th, 2010. I'm excited.
There is a possibility there might be a surprise involved. I don't know. But it will it will air
regardless. It will be out there regardless. This will be the first time ever that this show has
been available as a download. The the first four episodes of this show were not even done on
you stream. They weren't done on iTunes. We were on iTunes till 2012. The very first episode was
actually on the library of congresses clips. The show itself runs about an hour and a half.
So I'll be doing a bumper on the beginning on the end. So I'm going to record that this week.
I haven't listened to this to that show in probably five years. So I'm looking actually closer
to seven since the last time I listened to that show. So you're going to be able to see I'm going
to do an intro. It's kind of put the framework around what was going on and how the show worked
then versus how it works now and all that stuff. So you don't want to miss it. I'm excited to go
back and listen to it because I'm not just going to do the intro and then cut and paste. I'm
actually going to sit in the studio and listen to that show because I haven't listened to it forever.
So those are your next two weeks. And then we'll be back on September the 17th with an all new
episode right before no mercy because no mercy will be the 24th. Let's get into P.O.I. P.O.I.
Since we're a person of interest, it is a segment we do on the show where we take a person or an
entity and we debate their greatness or lack thereof. This one's going to be interesting.
And as soon as I start telling the story, I know Andrew's going to know exactly where I'm going.
Dateline Virginia. As we know a couple of weeks ago, a lot of things happened in
Charlottesville. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the people that were affected when
that protest got out of control. Andrew, you know where I'm going with this? I think so.
If I say ESPN. Oh, no. So this was the opening weekend of College Football. We're going to go
over some college football stuff here in just a little while. ESPN has a guy that has worked for
them for years. I mean years. Great college football analyst. I'm a big fan. But his name is
Robert Lee. And he's Asian. And I was going to hold on to that. But let's go ahead and throw out
there now. He's an Asian gentleman. He's a Asian descent. ESPN announces on Wednesday that they
are pulling him from their coverage. And they said this outright. They didn't even hide it. They
said we are pulling him from our coverage of the Virginia, the University of Virginia game
because of his name. And I saw that he was in agreement with this in the piece that I read. So
there's two. There's two sides to this. And I want to cover both sides of it because there's a
really, really good article that Yahoo Sports did talking about. And that's that's right. That's
where I took my inspiration from for POI this week from this Yahoo Sports article because they
looked at it from both sides. Some people see it. Of course, you know, we're in Game of Throne
season. Some people see it as ESPN bending the knee. Other people see it as ESPN protecting the
broadcaster. Not the network. The man himself. I am saddened that we have gotten to a point
in our history that this even has to be a thing. I'm not saying I don't get it. But this
infuriates me. This man is a quality broadcaster and he never done nothing to nobody.
But because we have been gotten to a point in our society that we are so sensitive to everything,
we can't let somebody do their job. Now, I appreciate the fact that Mr. Lee gets it.
And I'm not saying I don't get it. That doesn't mean it's not, that doesn't make it right.
Why can't we just get past this as a people?
I didn't even connect his name to the name of General Robert E. Lee nor did I until they said it.
Right. Until this whole story came out. I knew of him. I knew he was helping with Virginia
doing broadcast for Virginia. I didn't make any connection with anything historical
because they didn't play football then. They didn't do announcements of games then.
A has nothing to do with B. And Robert Lee is actually a very common name. Sam Jones, Bill Smith,
Robert Lee, they're all extreme. Well, think about the only who's the only guy right now on ESPN
that has been there since day one. No, Berman retired. Remember, Berman retired in February.
Don't know. I kind of haven't watched ESPN so long. Who hosts outside the lines?
Bob Lee, L.E.Y. But it's Bob Lee. Now, I'm a huge Bob Lee fan. I love that man. He put on Twitter
that morning. I was just wondering if my card key was going to work in the door this morning
because his name is Bob Lee. Yeah. All right. I agree with you. It's just really sad.
I get it. Don't get me wrong. I get it. And I can see it as ESPN being proactive.
But at what point do we not just say, you know what? Yes, this is a thing. And if you take this
as any more than what it actually is, check your life choices. It's kind of like how we teach
history here in this country versus how some other countries teach their own history.
We've got to at some point just say, you know what this we we would understand that people are
going to say these things. But we as a company cannot succumb to that kind of thing. We as a
company at some point have to stand up and say, you know what? Go pound sand. Go pound sand.
Exactly. This man is a quality journalist. Now great that they moved him to another game.
But think of all the research that knowing that he was covering this game, the research he had
to do because again, this is college football. Yeah. So the research you have to do to cover a
college game is even deeper than it would be in a pro game because you don't always know who's
going to be on the field. And you have to tell more of a tale about these kids. And there's more
tales to tell. Exactly. And the pros you have a better story to tell because you can talk about
their college experts. It's hard in college to do that kind of research. I get it, but it still
doesn't make sense. And this is what infuriates me. And this has been brewing in me for like four
days. I'm like, we're this is POI this week. I don't care. And we don't venture into the world
of politics at all in the show because it's not something that we're into. But to me, come on.
This this is infuriating. It lends credibility to what is happening, but it shouldn't be happening.
Now if if if Robert Lee had gone to the network and said, look, a guy was my name would be going
into the lions. Then if I covered this game, I purposely asked to not cover this game just because
it could it could be a powder cake. I would roll with you. I would complete. You know what?
It's still dumb, but I respect that. This just oh. Or if they gave us the reason why this even
became a concern. Oh, we know why it's a concern. There's no they set it up front because of his name
because of the events that have happened in Virginia in the in recent weeks. We can't make this
happen. Right. But I mean, if there was some other trigger like they got an email a phone call,
a letter or something that made that link for them and made it a situation, I could respect that.
I think somebody on Twitter said something. So are you telling me this guy can't cover any games
below the Mason Dixon line until the foreseeable future? I mean, I I could see their point
of trying to be proactive. I could see but no, I'm with you. I'm with you. This is just such an extreme
example. Okay, I'm going to vent on something I've never done before. Robert Lee is my great great great great great great
great great great. No, you've actually said that in one of your reviews that yet you've written at
at www.theclubhousepodcast.com.
And if people get history right on him,
he was only a Confederate general
because he was loyal to Virginia.
If Virginia was a Northern state,
he would have had Grant's job.
Let's just be clear on that.
He was not on the pro-slavery guy,
all this stuff, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy, yaddy.
And the way they portray him in history,
and this is my lineage, let's be realistic here,
he was my, if you take me on my grandmother's side
on my dad's side, my great, great, great, great grandmother
was his niece, okay?
So that's my lineage to him.
And they portray anything with him, he's evil
because he was, with the Confederacy.
He was just loyal to Virginia.
But that's because we don't,
it's because we, as a country,
we don't pay as much attention to American history
as we did when we were kids.
Yeah.
We have a park in downtown Dallas.
I used to work right next to it.
And we park ladies and gentlemen.
Yeah.
Are we going to, try to erase everything about this?
I don't know, but it just, it frustrates me.
And, you know, I appreciate him rolling with the punches.
I respect that about him.
He didn't make a big thing about it.
He was like, you know what, I'm good.
I just wish we weren't at this point.
And that's why I get frustrated
because he could have easily have said, you know what?
I'm going to get a lawyer
because this is impending,
impeding my right to make a living.
It's usually, yeah.
You're going to, you're going to take me off a job
because of my name.
You know, it takes me back if you remember office space.
Yes.
There's a guy in office space at his name is Michael Bolton.
Yeah.
And they say to him, why don't you change your name?
And he goes, why should I change my name?
He's the one that sucks.
Exactly.
Exactly.
You know what?
Like that's what it boils down to.
That's what it boils out.
It's like, okay, yeah.
I just happen to have the same name as this dude.
And I don't know if, like,
like his middle initials, like M.
Yeah, it's not even an E.
I mean, again, I appreciate him wrong of it.
And I have the utmost respect for the dude.
And I just feel like this is such an extreme example
of nobody wants to upset anybody.
And I still don't know that it would have gotten
to that point.
I don't think people want to thought about it honestly.
I don't either.
But at the same time, you've got to think to yourself,
somebody would have said something on Twitter
and it would have turned into a thing.
And it's sad, but that's the sad truth of it.
And part of that has to do with the ability
to be a troll on the internet
and say things with no linking to yourself
that's the fear that these companies are having to face.
Yeah.
You know, look at Mr. Lee as an example of taking ownership
of something that isn't even reflective of him.
He didn't give himself that name.
He was given that name.
Yeah.
And he's being proud and class act about the whole thing.
So thank you, Mr. Lee, for taking the high road
and being respectful.
And to Bobbly, that was funny.
I'm gonna give you a love for that.
Oh, I think I'm better.
Can we move on and do some music talks?
Okay, let's do some music talk, Charlie.
All right.
Taylor Swift revealed her new album this week.
Well, there's a weird segue.
Yeah.
She completely got away from social media.
Deleted all her accounts.
Then all of a sudden she shows back up
the new album is called Reputation.
Have you guys seen that Twitter has gone nuts about this?
No.
A bunch of people have taken the cover to this album
and parodied it.
Some of it is absolute brilliance.
You have to go look it up.
Taylor, just Google Taylor Swift Reputation parody.
That should be enough.
Like somebody did it with, with Michael Sarah
for some reason.
I'll let the boys look at it.
So, yeah.
Unless I with my niece, that's not even her person anymore.
The T Swizzle.
Did she do a duet with a certain rapper?
No, but that is one of the parodies.
Okay, good.
I don't know.
She may, I don't know.
I think I saw something about that
and I really didn't know what it was and I didn't care.
We have a new single from Wu Tang.
The Wu Tang clan has always new single called People Say.
I tried to listen to it earlier today
and SoundCloud didn't want to cooperate with me.
But they're going to release their seventh studio album
called Wu Tang, The Saga Continues,
October the 13th, Friday the 13th in October.
That's how Wu Tang rolls.
My birthday, that is true.
And they're not anything to blank with.
Netflix next month is going to be releasing
a Lady Gaga documentary called Gaga Five Foot Two,
September the 22nd.
Speaking of which, I finished up the defiant ones
this weekend.
How was that?
That was amazing.
If you have not watched the defiant ones
that say four part documentary series
about Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre,
it is absolutely phenomenal.
And they talk about how his early days
and when he worked with Spring Seen,
he worked with Tom Petty and he worked with Stevie Nicks
and all these people and finally got his own record label
when you had inner scope.
And then they're the ones that ended up picking up NWA
and then they did Death Row.
It's an amazing, amazing, many series.
And everybody in their brother is in this.
David Geffen, Bono, everybody else I've mentioned.
Like it's insane.
But the whole thing's on HBO Go right now.
Coach, check it out.
And did you guys hear this Food Fighters story this week?
About who's saying it at concerts?
Food Fighters were in Japan.
I've seen the video.
Food Fighters were in Japan this week.
And Dave Grohl being Dave Grohl
because he is the Dave Grohl of Dave Grohlness.
Says, hey, we want to bring you out our new best friend.
We just met him backstage.
Ladies and gentlemen, Rick Astley.
And the audience was Rick Grohl.
And first of all, Rick Astley drops the mother F-bomb.
Oh, yeah.
Just didn't see that coming.
And then they did a Food Fighters-esque version
of never gonna give you up.
That was brilliant.
And he didn't miss a note.
His voice was top notch.
And Taylor, I think Taylor Kitch is that his name?
Their drummer who looks like a very young edge.
Apparently, he's just beaming through the whole thing.
So, Kudos, Dave Grohl, like he's just,
he's the Nathan Filion of music.
He just gets more geek cred like every day.
Cause I am of the opinion that Nathan Filion has decided,
I want to do all the geek things
in the history of ever.
I must be involved in all of it.
And that's kind of what Dave Grohl is turning into.
Yeah, now you've found some of them.
Don's looking at them now.
Ted Cruz, Trump.
Shit.
Music new releases that you'll get this Friday.
Quite a few this week as we're wrapping up
the summertime music festival season.
Well, actually, let's talk about last night
before we get into that.
First of all, shout out to the lady in a bellum.
Do you talk about rolling out the hits?
They have a horn section with them now.
Cause they're new single or newest single.
This you look good.
I think it's what it's called.
It's got a horn section in it.
And they did a bit like five minutes before the show
where they did the lady in a bellum dance cam.
And they were just playing a bunch of different songs.
And they had the camera in the crowd
and people being stupid.
One guy was doing the sprinkler at one point.
Who we realized later was sitting right behind us.
I was going to say, Rob, are you talking about you?
No, no, I was I was chair dancing.
I did not stand up.
I was chair dancing.
But they were playing everything from Bruno Mars
to Michael Jackson.
It was a really cool mix of music
and people were going crazy and having.
It was a beautiful night, by the way.
Last night in the Metroplex.
Nice breeze coming through.
It wasn't real hot at all.
Brett James came out first.
He said a great 30 minute set.
And then the Kelsey Balorini, I think that's how you say your name.
She's very Miranda Lambertish, but she was real.
She was a lot of fun.
She played about 45 minutes.
Lady A went about an hour and a half hour, 45.
First of all, Mazel Tav to Hillary Scott.
She they said last night she's pregnant with twins.
And the other dude that's not the dude that sings,
he's about to have a daughter.
They had a new guy playing rhythm guitar
because they're normal rhythm guitarist.
He had to leave the tour, because his wife's
about to have a baby.
So they feel if you drink the water,
I don't know what lady had a poem to her.
Say what?
They were saying that she's been,
that's how long she was.
And then like last week, she lost three pounds.
And like you're pregnant and you're losing weight.
She goes, well, this is ginger ale.
I can't drink.
But they came out, rolled out to hits.
They're one of those bands you don't realize
how much of their stuff you know.
They really are.
And an amazing show came out to do the encore.
And before they went into Hey Bartender,
they did a little bit of In The Air tonight,
which was kind of cool.
They did a bit where the dude sang,
like Brett James came back out and sang a song
with the guy.
And I can't remember.
It's some country song.
I want to say it's Kenny Chesney or someone of his ilk.
Something about it's a summer song.
And she was in that mini skirt, I don't remember.
But then the Kelsey check came out with Hillary Scott
and they did Beyonce's crazy in love.
Okay.
It was good.
But it went about as well as you would think two white girls
doing Beyonce would have gone.
Yeah.
So yeah, there was a lot of enunciating
or maybe it didn't need to be enunciated.
It was a lot of fun.
They actually did a band left and it was just a three of them
on stage and they had a piano.
And for those of you that don't know,
Hillary Scott last year, they took about a year and a half off.
And while they were off, Hillary Scott did a faith-based album
with her family.
And the first single off that album called Thy Will
was number one on Juice TV for like four months.
And she actually sang that song.
And I was very excited that she did it.
And it was, and they also did a cover of Shania's,
you're still the one, it was excellent.
Speaking of which Shania going back on the road.
I know.
She's going to be here in our fairburg next June.
Yes, June, that should be the American Airlines Center.
Be interesting to see how that goes.
What's the name of this tour?
It's called the Shania, how you doing tour
as far as I'm concerned.
I like it.
So I must say I wouldn't go to that.
Because she's the shut up.
I'm still standing tour.
I think that's what it's actually called.
Or it's, I don't know, there's her name for.
I've been seeing billboards around town.
So she will be touring next year.
All right, music new releases in places.
She get music new releases this week.
I just, there's a couple of bands in here
that I just picked because of their names.
Hercules and Love of Fair is a band.
They have an album coming out this Friday called
Amion, O-M-M-I-O-N.
Joan Osborne returns.
If you remember what if God was one of us,
she's doing an album of Dylan covers.
That comes out this week called Songs of Bob Dylan,
oddly enough, a band called Mugwai.
Mugwai.
I've heard of them actually.
They're doing an album called Every Country's Sun,
S-U-N, Motorhead.
Is it really supposed to say cover album this?
I'm assuming this is the last thing they did with Lemmy
before Lemmy passed.
It's called Undercover.
Let's go back to 80s Prom, kids,
because O-M-D, orchestral maneuvers in the dark,
is releasing a new album.
Ah, yes.
And I could remember,
Russ Cleared that up from me.
Hillary Scott is actually the daughter of Linda Davis,
who did the, does he love you song?
I knew her mom was somebody famous,
and I could remember who it was last night.
Russ didn't give that for me.
Let's see, O-M-D has a brand new album
called The Punishment of Luxury.
I'm thinking, but wouldn't sugar tax like there are last,
I could be totally wrong on that, I'll do a look at it,
but I can remember just playing that over and over again.
Don't lean back.
Star Sailor is back with all this live,
Descript, as a brand new album called Freedom Child
and LCD Sound System for the kids
of the clothes in the hair, does American Dream.
All right, kids, are we getting to the MLB talk?
Let's do it.
Let's go for it as much as there is this week.
All right, MLB talk, let's do it.
Let's go into some standings
because we're getting close to crunch time people.
American League East, the Toronto Blue Jays,
eight games below 512 back,
they're three and seven in their last 10.
They are three games back on Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay is a game back on Baltimore.
Baltimore's five and a half back on the Yankees.
By the way, Baltimore on a four game win streak.
The Yankees still two and a half back on Boston.
In the AL Central, the Chicago White Sox, they're terrible.
They are 52 and 77 right now.
I think they're the worst team in the AL.
25 back, they're 21 back, they're 25 below 500.
Um, in the AL, yeah?
Because I know the Phillies are the worst.
They're in Major League.
They're five games worse than Oakland
and let's see eight games worse than Toronto.
Oh, cool.
There are four games behind the Tigers.
Detroit is six games, I'm sorry, eight games back on the twins.
I'm sorry, the royals.
The twins are in second place in the division.
They're two and a half up on Kansas City,
but they're six and a half back on Cleveland.
Cleveland's on a four game win streak right now.
Oh, don't put money on them in the playoffs.
In the AL West, the Oakland A's, 58 and 72, they're 21 back.
Um, but they're on a three game win streak.
What is going on with your Rangers?
Do you really want to play, do you, I mean,
do you really want to go into the playoffs
and play either Cleveland or Boston right now?
Oh, we were looking at, some friends and I were looking
at the starters, like, your rotation would be,
yeah, yeah, you'd probably end up in Houston.
Yeah.
And it's, it's Cole Hamils followed by anybody else
and then Cole Hamils followed by anybody else
and then Cole Hamils.
I think I might get calls up at some point.
Like, they're really trying to get this wild card.
We granted, they're, they've lost three in a row
and they've gone back below 500 and they're 15 back.
But they're only a game and a half back on law.
But you know, I mean, it's because they're playing Oakland,
you know, why be the worst team in the division
when you can lose to home?
Oh, they just sound wrestling logic, right?
Driving is crazy.
But law is 13 and a half.
They're actually tied with Seattle right now.
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles County,
California, America, North America, Earth, Milky Way,
universe.
They are both 13 and a half back on Houston.
Houston is just destroying people right now.
608 winning percentage.
And that's the best in the league, not the sport,
in just the league.
All right, so let's go into the National League West.
The San Francisco Giants, they are 52 and 80.
So really, by technical definition,
if they win every game for the rest of the year
and only lose one, they could still finish 500.
Hey, really?
Well, they've got 80 losses, they're 162 games.
What kind of, should we put it on that?
I put 20 on that.
Yeah.
It would have to be 20 to win like 19 billion.
20 cents.
But, you know, they're 41 games back.
So they pretty much would have to win out.
There are six games back on the Padres
who we'll talk about here in just a moment.
The Padres are 14 back on the Rockies.
The Rockies are a game and a half back on Arizona,
but Arizona is still 19 and a half back on the Dodgers.
And that's after Arizona going on a four game win streak.
Misty's beloved Dodgers are torching the world right now.
They're 91 game win series right now.
They're nine games from Triple Digit win, sir.
Aren't they projected to get 115 or something like that?
I don't do projections.
I don't know.
I read that online.
In the NL Central, the Cincinnati Reds are terrible
and they're 15 games back.
They're eight games back on your beloved Pirates Don.
Yeah.
You're five games below 500.
But you've won two in a row.
Yeah.
So you're not dead going for you.
You're 500 in your last 10.
And you run differentials, not that bad.
Yeah, minus 47.
I'll take it.
It's not bad.
You're two and a half games back on the Cardinals.
The Cardinals are two back on Millowalkay.
Millowalkay closing in on the Cubs.
They're only two and a half back right now.
So it's about seven games between 1st and 4th right now.
There's literally seven games between 1st and 4th right now.
It's still any, yeah.
I mean, that division still up for grabs.
And in the NL East as Andrew so succinctly put it,
the Philadelphia Phillies are the worst team in baseball.
They're 48 and 81.
God, they have any 150 games.
No, so sad.
They've, they're on a one game win streak.
They got that going for them.
They're 21 and 46 on the road.
Wow.
They, and they're still only nine games back on the Metz.
Meet the Metz.
Greet the Metz.
Come on out and beat the Metz.
The Metz are a half game back on my beloved braves.
My beloved braves are eight and a half back on my beloved
Marlins, but the Marlins are 11 and a half back on Washington.
My name is one foreign row.
And I don't want to say smartest man alive,
but I'm already reading headlines.
I'm already reading headlines that the new ownership
is trying to figure out what we're going to do about Giancarlo Stanton.
Yeah, you're right.
Koki Chua rings, son.
Could you ain't going to do it in this town?
I love Stanton.
I'm a huge fan of the dude, but God bless him for sticking
with this team, but this team is just bad.
They're just bad.
Did he wake up one day after they all star break and say,
OK, now I'm hitting home runs at an ungodly pace.
And just to put this in framework, Washington is 77 and 51
right now.
There's still 20 games back on the Dodgers for best record
in the league.
It's insane.
Let that settle in.
All right, so if a playoff started at I in the American League,
your division leaders Boston Cleveland in Houston.
Let me look at something.
Good God.
I'm just comparing Houston to the Dodgers.
Yeah.
How odd does that sound?
I mean, the Dodgers are 12 games up on the Astros.
Wow.
They're just running away with this dog on thing.
All right, so your division leaders today,
Boston League, Cleveland in Houston.
Certainly Minnesota and the Yankees.
Is it welcome?
Correct.
The Yankees are up three and a half games.
Wow.
But now when you look at one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
there's eight teams out of the 11 that are listed,
that are within nine games of that wild card spot.
Oakland's nine back.
There are three back on Toronto.
Toronto's three back on Texas.
Texas has tied with Tampa Bay.
They're both a half game back on Kansas City.
Kansas City is a half game back on Baltimore.
Baltimore is a half game back on Seattle and law.
Wow.
So in a week's time, this whole thing
could be completely different outside of the Yankees right now.
And remember, Baltimore on a four game win streak,
Kansas City on a four game losing streak,
Oakland on a three game win streak right now.
In the National League, your division leaders, as we said,
Washington, the Cubs, and the Dodgers.
Arizona's got theirs locked in by a game and a half.
Let me take the difference between the American League
and the National League.
In the National League, remember,
we said nine out of 11 teams were within six games.
In the National League, four out of 11 teams
are within eight and a half games.
Atlanta's 13 back.
So they're four and a half back on Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh, down here,
Pittsburgh pirates are only eight and a half back in a wild card.
Yeah.
They're a game and a half behind St. Louis.
St. Louis is a game and a half behind Miami,
as we say it down there.
Miami, a half game back on Millowalkay.
So this thing's not done by any stretch,
but you have a tighter race in the American League.
Ooh.
The choice of baseball.
A lot of going on, a lot of things going on.
Yep, and I love all of it.
Is it that time for us?
Russ did mention the nicknames
in the back of the Little League uniforms.
By the way, is that game already happened?
Yes, it happened.
And it was a run rule.
Did we win?
No.
So Lufkin, Texas did not get it done.
No, they did not.
They allowed Japan to score 12 runs.
Just yikes.
What was that word?
You know, we're proud of our Lufkin boys
getting up there and doing the thing.
And there might have been girls on the team too,
let's be honest.
I've seen some great girls on those teams
in those last few years.
By the way, did you catch 30 for 30 this week?
No, I heard it was good though.
It's good, not great, if it was about Dallas Carter.
The football itself is a very, very small part of it.
But if you live in the Dallas-Fort Worth area,
it is full of people, you check Cooperstein, Randy Galloway,
John Jack Taylor, Dale Hanson, because there's
nothing Dale Hanson can't be involved in.
It's really, the interviews are good.
I wish it was better, but it's still far from the worst
one I've seen.
All right, so let's get into the memoriam
because we got a couple of big ones this week.
I want to start with the one that happened today.
I got notification this morning.
Does the name Toby Hooper mean anything to you guys?
Can't say it does.
He is a director, passed away at the age of 74 this morning.
You may not know his name, but I can guarantee you
you know his work.
I'm going to go a little bit obscure
and then we're going to build on it.
In 2005, he did a couple episodes of a series
called Masters of Horror.
If you remember, that was a showtime, I remember that.
He was a horror director.
Did a couple of episodes of Night Visions in 2002?
Let's see.
Didn't episode of Dark Skies in 1996.
Did an episode of, he had his own show called Night Terrorist.
He did one episode of Tales from the Crypt.
Didn't episode of Freddy's Nightmares,
if you remember that particular show.
Did an episode of the Equalizer in 1988.
Did the video for Billy Eidl's Dancing With Myself?
Invaders from Mars.
Now let's talk about the big ones.
He did the TV movie for Salem's Lot.
He did Poltergeist in 1982.
This is also the man that brought you in 1974
the original Texas chainsaw massacre.
This man is a legend in the horror community
and in front of the show Devon Pike,
whenever he talks about a celebrity death,
he talks about telling them to rest easier whatever.
And for Toby Hooper, he said,
none of us will sleep.
He was born in Austin.
So he is a project of Texas.
He studied at UT Austin under the name Baruch Lume.
His father owned a theater in San Angelo.
He sold his rights to Texas chainsaw massacre
to twisted pictures in 2009.
He had a novel called Midnight Movie
who was published in 2011.
He was his first novel.
Died of natural causes is what they're saying.
So this is a guy that, if you know anything,
anything about the horror genre, this is a guy.
Also passing away this past week at the age of 69
is a man by the name of J. Thomas.
I don't know if you guys know who he is.
He is a comedian.
He was on Murphy Brown.
He was, there's a lot of things that J. Thomas was doing.
He played Carlos Husband on chairs with the penguins.
I think you like drove the Zamboni for the penguins
or something, you never correctly.
Like, oh, yeah.
Or is it the Bruins because they were in Boston?
Or maybe they lived in Pittsburgh?
Yeah, I think it was.
Okay.
What I remember him from, because if you know,
one of the things people know about me is I was a huge fan
of David Letterman, have been since I was a kid.
Every Christmas for years, and I mean years upon years
upon years, Dave's Christmas show would have two things.
One, you would have Darlene Love,
who you might know as Mrs. Roger Murtaugh
from the Leitha Weapon films.
Oh.
She would come on and sing some Christmas music every year.
And then J. Thomas would come on.
And I don't know where this started,
but they would put a meatball on top of a Christmas tree.
And J. would try to knock the meatball off
by throwing a football at it every year.
Was he ever successful?
Oh, yeah, more than one occasion.
Apparently they brought it one time they brought it.
I want to say it was Peyton Manning
and he couldn't hit it if it was on the side of a barn.
But it was a big meatball.
It was like a probably a half of a basketball-sized meatball.
Yeah.
I think at one point they put a pizza under it
for some reason.
But J. Thomas, a great comedic actor
from all accounts, a quality human being.
He was also on Morkin Mindy.
Just that one hurt me when I saw it this week.
Because I mean, I just opened my brows with boom.
J. Thomas was like, whoa.
Did he even know that he was sick at all?
He's just one of those guys that when you look him up
on something like a Wikipedia or an IMDB,
he's one of those that guy and that thing.
Hey, it's that guy.
Yeah, you're like, oh, that guy.
I want to say, yeah, he was a radio talk show host.
They were talking about him on Bob and Tom.
And Tom was at a radio convention.
And he says, I was standing there
and I felt this hand tapped me on the shoulder
and it was J. Thomas and he introduced himself to me
and my thought was, I know who you are.
But he said he was born, also in Texas.
He was born in Kermit, Texas.
He was raised in his Italian-American mother's Catholic
religion, but his father was Protestant.
But he was raised in New Orleans.
Let's see.
It started appearing on the Letterman Christmas time episode
in December of 1998.
And it started with, oh, here you go.
It started with him taking turns, tossing at the tree
with Vinnie Testa Verdi.
Wow.
Yeah.
That's a blast.
And so Letterman and Testa Verdi were going,
but neither one of them could do it.
J. Thomas came out, hit it on the first try.
And apparently, he played quarterback in college.
He worked at an AM station in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He did great stand-up as well.
But he was on the love, who wasn't on the love vote in 81?
He was in shud if you remember that movie.
Spencer for higher, legal eagles.
He did one episode of Family Ties.
Eddie LeBeck is who he was on Cheers.
I think he was a goalie is what it was.
I think he was a former player.
He did an episode of The Golden Girls.
He was also in Freddie's Nightmares.
He won outstanding guest actor in a comedy series
for Murphy Brown.
Let's see.
He was in the Dolly Parton movie, The Straight Talk.
If you remember that.
Yeah, I do remember that film.
He was an episode of Civil.
He was in Mr. Holland's Opus.
Yeah.
I mean, I just, I'm just a fan.
He was on Ed, one of my favorite shows of all time,
which is still not available on DVD.
I'm really upset about that.
But he was also in, he didn't have a set of Ray Donovan
was lasting, he's less than in 2013.
So.
I love that show, Donovan.
Yeah.
A lot of people like Ray Donovan.
So, yeah, our best to them.
Let us move into some NCAA football
cause brother, we are underway.
Jay Thomas was a big sports guy too.
So a great second way into that.
Let's talk about college football.
I watched college football yesterday.
This thing is getting better in the world.
It's almost all right in the world.
Maybe you got college, you don't got pro yet.
But you got college.
It was bad football I was watching yesterday.
I did not get to watch my beloved South Florida Bulls
because that's when I was at the concert.
But I did watch the Gators.
Florida A&M.
Oh, okay.
No, Gators don't play till Saturday.
Florida A&M played Texas Southern.
That was bad football.
But South Florida did beat San Jose 42 to 22.
Stanford over rice 62 to seven.
That game was played in Australia.
Really?
Hawaii beats UMass by a field goal.
BYU.
Oh, that boy, they beat up on Portland State.
20 to six is not the true story of that game.
And Colorado State 5827 over Oregon State
in a game that I giggled a lot
because of Oregon State's mascot.
But that's just me.
But we are fully underway this week.
It's coming weekend.
Of course, as soon as I get on a plane
and head to Florida, 30 minutes later,
we have kickoff at Texas, at AT&T Stadium
where my beloved Gators flew me in town as I'm leaving.
They'll be playing Michigan.
But do they have their starting quarterback yet?
They've got three of them.
Yeah, how they decide it.
And the Calwing has not decided to wait.
What?
I still don't understand.
There's a league my,
Malik Zaire from Notre Dame
who has already graduated is playing for them.
Really?
Yes.
He's got some kind of a weird fifth year eligibility thing going on.
I guess you have nothing else better to do.
But football's here and all is right in the world.
You think Del Rio's kid is going to take it?
Is that one of the kids in it?
Del Rio's kid.
Jack Del Rio, isn't this son of Gator?
Oh, I just, you say Del Rio, I think I'll burt hotel.
Oh, no.
Yeah.
Oh, Lord.
Yes, I am a mark.
I am so sorry.
Wow, Zing.
I now have to turn in my journalism card
because I didn't remember that Jack Del Rio is somebody.
What do you have more than one officer?
He's a coach somewhere.
I don't remember where, though.
Probably open a mark.
What can I say?
Let's just talk about the NFL, shall we?
OK.
Preseason week three.
This week is skip this since it's pre-season.
Great segue.
It doesn't count.
How much you hate this?
Do we really?
Well, this is the one where this is the week
where most of the starters play.
My beloved dolphins choked one to Philadelphia.
Carolina beats Jacksonville by a point.
New England wins by two over Detroit.
Seattle by a touchdown over Kansas City.
The Giants beat the Jets by one.
But I had 50 bucks on New York, so I'm good.
Arizona by 10 over Atlanta.
Baltimore wins by four over Buffalo.
13 to nine.
Indianapolis beats Pittsburgh by four.
Don Don Worry, doesn't matter.
Dallas covers the spread and beats Oakland by four.
Tampa Bay loses by four in a game that turned into a kickfest.
But you know what?
We have a kicker that can kick field goals
because they put nine on the board.
Los Angeles over the Rams by a safety.
New Orleans blanks Houston by by almost two touchdowns.
Chicago over Tennessee.
I watch the fourth quarter of that game, tough deal.
Denver over Green Bay by a field goal.
And Washington comes back to beat Cincinnati.
23 17.
Excuse me, excuse me.
I thought you said you're going to protest this
and not watch pre-season and all that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because there was I caught up on my DDR.
I thought it was the watch.
And I'm not going to watch.
Just from Marshalls.
The sense of an I I watched all of the sheets sense of
anarchy.
Yeah, I wasn't in the mood to commit to any or the room.
You could have threw the room in DVD.
Yeah, let me start that off.
Let me get that on my Sunday afternoon.
It was a good but tonight San Francisco and Minas did you
see what Minnesota did this week.
No, they put out a Twitter invitation to ask
Olivia Munn to attend the game when they're hosting the
Packers. Oh, that's funny. I'm like, are you sure that's a bear you want to poke?
Because Aaron Rogers has this thing where he'll torch you if you make him mad.
This coming Thursday night you'll have Jacksonville at Atlanta. The Troy will be at Buffalo.
Since Anada will be at Indianapolis, the Rams will be at Green Bay. Philly will be at New York.
The Jets. The Giants will be at New England. Your Steelers will be at Carolina this week,
Don. Washington at Tampa Bay. Cleveland at Chicago. Miami at Minnesota. Dallas will be at Houston.
Tough road layer. Dallas three in one of the preseason. Look at that. Baltimore will be at New Orleans.
Tennessee at Kansas City, Arizona at Denver, LA at San Francisco, Seattle at Oakland. All of that
is Thursday night because they've got to get down to the 52 man roster this week coming weekend.
So I have a question because I need educating. Yes ma'am. If in a situation like where Dallas is
playing Houston and Houston. If this had been this past weekend with the storm and the warnings
and everything, would they relocate the game or would they just reschedule or would they call it off?
In preseason they would probably just cancel it because it's preseason. Okay. But the disadvantage
that puts your team at is you're trying to get down to your 52 man roster and you tend to use
that last game as a last ditch effort for a lot of guys that are on the bubble. But if it was
standard season, what did they do? They would reschedule it. Okay. You'd have to.
So I've seen instances where they've moved the game. Yeah. I know at one point,
there was a game in California that was moved to Arizona. Okay, so they don't go to the other
team's home stadium. They move it. I've never seen it done that way. Okay. No, no, no, you know
it. Let me correct you on that. I've seen it done that way once and I can't remember who it was.
But it was still considered a home game for that team that traveled. Right. Which is weird.
But I've only ever seen that happen once. Okay. I just was curious in the current Harvey just
has me asking odd questions. Well, I mean, the Cowboys, Stephen Jones came out and did say
anybody that came up from Houston, they were going to open the stadium for people to stay there
if they needed to. So and I will say I've seen that from that stadium or from any of the Cowboys
stadiums before and that's always been nice to see or hear that they're willing to help out
those that need a hand up. So and again, if you need to evacuate, evacuate to our friends.
And if you need to place in Texas to know the vocals near slope with shelter,
dial 211, not 911, but 211. 211. All right. Yeah, that's information. Look at Don over there,
getting it done tonight. Exactly. Yeah. So near shelter, this is some where your location is
and they'll tell you where the nearest shelter is. Yeah. All right. So let's let's get into
combining our love for all things pop culture and sports because apparently I don't know who
NFL head coaches are. And let's talk about where Alberto Del Rio comes from.
Yeah, I believe I did. We got the show title. I'm going to be. Oh, yeah. Oh, no, it's there.
Trust me tonight's episode. It's called Rob is a mark.
Did we play everybody's favorite game? You know what we didn't. Yeah, you even brought that up.
We didn't. I brought that up. Oh, my goodness. We got to go back and do that. Okay.
I thought Russ would have reminded me too. We got to go back and do America's favorite game show.
Just Russ. That's rotten. Russ. Just rotten. By the way, Russ is on Instagram now. He's joined us.
Oh, good. All right. So let's do what is the one differential for the San Diego Padres?
We're going to go back. We're going to rewind the hands of time and do what is the
one differential for the San Diego Padres? Jen. Negative 122. Andrew 155. Don. I can say negative 130.
All right. We're going to give Russ just a few minutes, a few minutes, a few seconds to get his
pick in while I'm pulling up my notes for Ron smack down. You're just a second because he is
still in the chat room. I think. Pretty sure. I'm pretty sure he's there. Yeah, he's there.
Russ says minus 170. Oh, he's going away. I didn't really. For the second time this season,
somebody has nailed it. It happened to chat earlier this season. Somebody has actually gotten
it dead to rights. The San Diego Padres are 57 and 73. They have a 438 win percentage. They are 34
and a half games back in the division. There are three games above 500 at home. They're 19 games
below 500 on the road. There are three in seven in their last 10 and those three of those seven
losses are in a row. Their run differential is a minus 155. Andrew Beckham ladies and gentlemen.
That's come with your $1,000. Where's your $1,000?
Oh, my money, man. Put it on my tap. All right. So let's get into wrestling and we start our
wrestling talk with a sad story. Dana Brooke. Yeah, I heard about this. Lost her boyfriend.
They actually had the service this morning. Her boyfriend, Dallas McCarber, passed away.
This past week. Within a couple of days, she actually helped start a charity in his honor.
So we want to send our deepest out to Dana Brooke and her family and Dallas McCarber's family as
well. It's a tough deal. On the other side of that, Rick Flair seems to be improving.
Sure, it was back on the road this weekend. She actually was at a house show last night.
So there's that. Let's talk SummerSlam for just a minute.
Five out of I eight titles changed at SummerSlam. And that's a record for SummerSlam.
And if you include NXT TakeOver Brooklyn, that's seven out of 11 titles changed hands last weekend.
Wow. That's a lot of titles.
So and not a bad show.
It really wasn't. It really wasn't a bad show. It just wasn't. Well,
I miss part of it. The Randy Orton thing. They're actually working that as part of an
angle of Rusev. It's going to help build up a program for Rusev.
Well, you know my situation where I refuse to pay $50 for a Roku to get the network in
Yeti. But I was watching on the phone because I was in the car and all that.
And you know, say you have access to the networks.
Yeah, I do. But so I was on phone and that because I was on some road trips and all that.
Smart TV. I probably saw the NXT TakeOver Brooklyn.
What a great show. That was. And like you're saying, that Amber Moon match was incredible.
Do you know what I like? Do you know what we're going to talk about that?
That's what wrestling should be. I agree with you. I agree with you.
Because this that crowd. It was wrestling.
It wasn't this little, you know, main street hype like with the baby.
But that's NXT. But that's NXT. It's rest. That's what NXT does.
Let me ask you this sidebar on this. Sure.
So the day that old Vinnie Mac, you know, God rest, you know, he says, you know,
get closer to the mic, run down. What? There you go.
What do you think will happen when Vince, either retires or passes away in ancient Stephanie take over?
Do you think H will turn WWE into more of NXT words wrestling instead of this little bubble gum hip hop?
I hope in the name of all things good and holy that happens.
Because that's why I pray to the God of all things good and holy.
It was wrestling. Wrestling wrestling wrestling wrestling wrestling.
Not and there was storytelling involved.
It was a great paper. But it wasn't like these things.
No, I know you like the Brickonzo, but there's all this other Brickonzo.
These little acties, little skits, predictive ability.
Like that Taty match for the titles.
Oh, that was a great match.
Yeah, and I said it last week. It was just non-stop action.
Then Red Dragon coming in. I mean, hello.
And if they keep getting enough positive reinforcement of that's what the fans want.
Well, but that's the difference. H has already known what the fans want.
But it's Vince's decision still.
But if he has the backing of this is what the public is screaming for.
Vince don't care. Vince don't care.
Vince is going to make his money regardless.
See, that's where Vince doesn't listen to the fans.
Or sometimes he listens too much and then gives them too much of what they want.
Because Steven and I were actually talking about what the wrong thing.
Well, the best example, I'll say like this.
Like Steven said, you know, Roman Reigns, the guy might be a great guy,
yadi, yadi. But they had a thing on the network.
Talk to him. I might find him. Where they asked where what?
What do you like about him? And do many people said they're shoving him down our
throats? Listen to us. We don't want him.
Listen to us. Do something else instead of trying to feed us the carrots and the peas and stuff
like that and shove something down our throat.
This little family, friendly, all this other stuff.
And then you look at the crowd at NXT where they went nuts and it was wrestling.
Sometimes Vince listen to the crowd. They don't want Roman.
Most people with pure wrestling fans don't want seen in Roman for the WrestleMania made event.
Which may happen. If that happens, my God, I'm not going to watch it.
Wouldn't bother me at all.
Would not bother me at all.
I just see how they shove stuff down the throat.
They don't listen to what the customers want.
It's like, you know what? We're a restaurant chain.
You know, we're going to make this sandwich of garlic and.
But guess what? You're still you still watch it with us and we still talk about it.
But that's why that's why he doesn't fast forward in on certain stuff.
Oh, that's true. That's very true.
I'm not seeing for it.
Yeah, but if you if you're even if you're fast forwarding those matches,
it's still registered as you watched him by nails.
But did I not walk out on that Undertaker match?
You did. You did.
But what I'm saying is regardless, he still gets the credit for it.
So there's enough.
I don't know that there's anything in the industry like right now that would make me leave early
or not watch.
There just isn't. I enjoy the product.
It's not perfect.
It's not it's never going to be the attitude era again that will never happen in our foreseeable
future.
Well, never say never look at POI tonight and then ask yourself that question again.
Yeah, but that's the age we live in.
You're not going to see the attitude era again.
If I go to Mania in New Orleans in that last match is Roman and Cena.
I'm walking out.
That depends on his gut the belt.
It all depends, but if they push that because remember the prediction I made.
I know, I know.
I know, I know, but if that happens, I'm leaving.
And do you want your tea?
I won't be the only person to leave.
Oh, I must say that you will be.
But I'm just it wouldn't bother me on the level of bothers you.
It just doesn't.
I like both of those guys.
And when I saw this, I go, this is what I've been waiting for wrestling.
Mm-hmm.
Just it's like in a way ROH in a way.
Boy, we're going to talk about ROH in a minute.
All right, let's go.
All right, Tony Shavani is going to be returning to the commentary table for something called
MLW on October 5th.
Is that what G global force?
No, no, this is actually MVP is actually on that card.
Okay, I think I think it's out of Atlanta.
Big cast is knee injury is legit.
He could be out up to nine months.
Did you see that?
That was an awkward moment Monday night.
Yeah, it really was.
Because I'll give it to Cass as much as some people hate him and stuff.
No, he tried to finish the match.
You tried and.
But see, and Eba, you look at it from Enzo's point, too.
Enzo sold it, too.
Yeah.
Like Enzo just was like, okay, this is what we're going to do.
And he celebrated the victory.
Like it was like it was just a work.
Did a great job on that.
But he's been moved to 205 Live.
Who has Enzo?
Enzo Moray.
He is on 205 Live now.
Already.
After that whole debacle, I don't know if you've ever heard of a clothing brand called
Chocline.
They are doing a, they do custom jackets that you can wear.
They're actually doing one themed around the ice cream bars.
My denim jacket's coming in later this.
And, and Puma is actually doing a line of shoes to pay tribute to the ice cream bars as well.
Who is?
Oh, Puma.
Okay, I got those.
He's not a Puma.
I got six pair.
All right, so let's talk about raw.
We talked about Dana Brooke earlier.
I just want to say to Dana Brooke,
I like the whole Felicia Hardy black cat thing she's got going on right now.
She's dyed the hair like a silver.
Looks great.
So I wanted to give a shout out to her on that.
And you guys heard me last week.
Smartest man alive.
Remember what I said about the Miz on last week's show?
Yep, yes.
I said he's going to use that empty arena.
Yeah, he sure is heck did it on Monday night.
So this is what Barclays looks when sold out.
That was hilarious.
He had a promo.
Well, it was weird because I'm sitting there.
I just happened to tune in.
I just caught up on everything.
So I was like, you know what?
I'll just go ahead and turn on the.
No, it's I band practice ran long.
Yeah.
So I just came home.
I'm like, I'm not going to watch anything.
I'm just going to fire up the pre show.
And I'm glad I did because if I hadn't,
I would have missed that match because 20 after four central time.
Here comes the Miz.
I'm like, what is going on?
But also noticed this week in the Cruiserweight match.
They forgot to change the ropes.
They were still using the red ropes.
I don't know if that's a thing now.
Never know.
Is there a way difference in the ropes?
I don't know.
And I got to give it to Miz.
That promo.
And he ripped.
And you know what?
That's the kind of point I'm trying to make.
When it all when the dust settles and it's all said and done,
I am now officially convinced as of last Monday night
that man's a Hall of Famer.
Miz?
Oh yeah.
Because the more research I do on the Miz,
and I realize how hated he was for a year's backstage.
Was he hated?
Yeah.
Basically what
Baron Corbin's going through right now?
He went through.
Was it the time when he got the champion chip?
And that's why they threw him out because he had too much of an equal.
It's just I just read his over his career.
There were times where he wasn't even allowed to change in the locker room.
Really?
Yes.
He's going to be a Hall of Famer.
Because he fought through it.
He just like H did after, you know,
when he had to take the front of the punishment after the curtain call.
Yeah.
Not to that extreme,
but Miz went kind of through the same thing.
So I don't want to turn his rear around, go into Japan.
Yeah.
Because they just know how to wrestle and tell a story there.
You know, I think that's why they he had the flop
because he had the WrestleMania event and then they just dumped him.
They dumped him after that.
Speaking speaking of dumps,
low key now gone from GFW.
Somebody watch that.
I know like nine people.
But the more I read about low key,
the less respect I have for him.
This guy's got to remember this thing is scripted
just because you're not in the world title picture.
You're like three foot four.
Get over yourself.
Did you see who your new GFW champion is?
Crown this week.
I read it so I forgot.
E.
Lie.
Drake.
The guy that used to wear the he man thing.
Yeah.
He's your new GFW champion.
If that's what's going to propel their brand, go for it.
I don't know if I'm going to go that far with it.
This Dixie still?
No, she's totally out of that thing.
Yeah, I know it's so we have a spoiler coming up for ROH.
So the spoiler will be coming in three two.
Don't say the one Don I am so sorry.
Your boy doesn't have a belt anymore.
Because your new ROH six man tag champs are the young bucks in Adam Page.
Why do we treat the young bucks?
Like they're the second coming.
They're not good.
They're not good.
Their entire bit is ripping off other people's bits.
So now they're the IGF Junior.
The IGWP Junior heavyweight tag champs.
Plus the ROH tag champs.
And now the ROH six man tag champs.
And the super champions.
Now also not their bit.
I don't get it.
I don't see what everybody else sees.
And Steven and I were talking about this in pre show too.
He and I we just I don't see it.
They were terrible when they were generation me and TNA.
They were terrible when they were the young bucks before that in ROH.
They're terrible now.
It's just high spot high spot high spot.
That's all they do.
There's no.
There's no originality to them.
I'll give you that a hundred percent.
But what I think they see and I'm not saying I agree with this.
Feel free is they could put on a match.
But again, because all we want now are high spot high spot high spot.
We don't want.
And because this is what you were talking about earlier.
The reason that you don't get matches like you had in an XT takeover.
Because it's proven that all people want is just high spot high spot high spot.
They don't want a match that tells a story.
And that's the problem with the young bucks.
Ooh, I'm going to super kick you and then I'm going to back flip off the deal.
And I'm going to do that.
Don't care.
They're good wrestlers.
Do something.
They do some good wrestling in the rings.
And they're been some great matches.
But they don't know how to tell a story.
It's all high spots.
It's all high spots.
I know.
But they you put them in I'm sorry.
That one with the motor city machine guns.
On yesterday's episode.
Yeah, that was a good match.
It was fair to Midland for me.
It wasn't a great match.
But I've seen some great matches where it's like damn.
Now the murder city machine guns were involved in five of the greatest matches
I've ever watched in my life when you had that match with them in beer money.
That was amazing.
That five match series is five of the best matches I've ever watched in my life.
And if you can look those up.
Beer beer money motor city machine guns best of five series TNA.
All right, so let's keep talking.
Asuka out eight weeks with a collarbone injury.
Spoiler for Asuka in three to don't say the one.
She relinquished the NXT women's title for the upcoming taping Don.
Yeah, I saw that.
It's it's no it's out there.
So they're saying she might be getting moved up.
This worries me because we can't book Shinsuke.
There's no way we're going to be able to book her.
Yeah.
Well, I just don't know how they're saying collarbone she eight weeks.
So let's say two months.
Gonna put you right for survivor series.
So maybe she's on the raw to survivor series could be.
But you know what?
But like you said about Shinsuke.
He's only good building up to the champion chip.
Apparently she can she can hold it a bell.
I'm sorry.
They should give him the belt.
Not yet.
I don't know.
They should give it to him.
Yeah, especially the way they ended the match.
And another thing that Don maybe if you see a petition started by Don this week
it probably stands from this next story.
Apparently had to smack down live taping beach balls and inflatables were banned.
Really?
After the deal on Monday night.
That was funny.
That was greatness.
I mean, a Cesaro going on.
Don texted me beach ball.
It was having like popped it.
I texted back to Don.
RIP beach ball.
That went RIP, that's traded.
Yeah.
Don do you like the Knight Rider?
Were you a fan of the Knight Rider when you were a kid?
Show.
Don't.
Ding.
Ding.
Ding.
Yeah, I remember it.
Don't.
It wasn't that I'm watching every week like Duke's a hazard.
But I remember it.
You remember my it was the Hasselhoff.
The talking car.
Yeah, the kid.
Yeah.
And I saw that universal studio.
It's California.
I saw the car.
Yeah.
One of the cars.
So they're talking about rebooting it again.
Oh, with who?
Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dun.
John Cena, Michael Knight.
Get ready.
They're not.
I mean, they're connected to universal because of the whole USA thing.
But that just means it'll start off strong and in with a big egg on face.
So get ready for that.
I saw this headline.
I'm like, I can't wait to see the look on Don's face.
Yep.
This is not a joke.
This is a legitimate new story that I read this week.
Also, the B1, the ones where I'm going to take a pass on this reading.
Don't be like hard pass.
No, uh, fortunately, I, you know, I can't make it tonight.
Sorry, I just much as we love you.
You know, I think you told me you had to relase all of your workshoes that day.
Both of them.
The Bella twins speaking of John Cena, they're going to have a line of wines.
Each one of them.
One is named after, uh,
uh, not Nicky, who's the other one?
Oh, Bill Brey.
Brey Brey's daughter, Brey's child, Birdie B.
The other one will be called Bella Rudici.
And rumors of Nicky joining Dancing with the Stars this season are out there.
Are they red or white ones?
Remind me not just whiny wines.
Okay.
And, uh, we talked about Baron Corbin has a, having a lot of heat backstage right now.
Um, but that's why, apparently that's why he lost his cash in.
Do you think it was like, we're going to put you in a place.
Here you go.
I don't have the whole story.
I know that there, there are people that are blaming Cena,
but apparently stay with me.
Stay with me.
What the, the stories I'm reading is it's not Cena trying to hold him down.
Cena apparently is representing a number of people on the roster that are saying that we don't
feel safe in the ring with him.
Why is Randy Orton still wrestling?
Because Randy Orton has been around for 20 years.
I'm speaking of unsafe though.
I don't know if you guys heard this thing about that happened in AAA this weekend.
Remember, AAA had their big, uh, their version of WrestleMania this weekend.
I want to get this story right.
So let me pull it up for you.
There is a, it was during a women's match.
And they had a women's wrestler named sexy star.
And she was in a match.
Let me pull this up.
I know because if I don't do this, I'm not going to, I'm totally going to get this wrong.
Um,
see,
yes.
Thank you.
The Clubhouse podcast is experiencing technical difficulties.
Oh, let's see.
This is a story about a man named Jad, a poor mountaineer.
Okay, so sexy, sexy star is in a, an amateur against Rosemary.
Okay.
Is it like I as the end she'll stay with me end of the match is coming
She puts rosemary in an arm bar. Okay rosemary taps. Okay. She does not
Let the hold go and pops rosemary shoulder tap her snap after after she had tapped in the bellhead rank. Okay
So apparently
um
vampiro got on her backstage
I'm like look first thing you need to do is apologize second thing where you let me read to you some of the reactions from some of the wrestlers on Twitter
uh Karen Jarrett send 60 start on my house
uh
Gail Kim disgusting is just one word we put our lives in each other's hands so unprofessional
This is how you work yourself out of the business
Velvet sky some people are such huge marks for themselves that they'll never understand the art of the work
These people should never be in a ring
Um EC3. Oh, no, that's that's a different one. Uh, let me see. Where's the one that I that really I found myself
I'm actually siding with this person. They don't have it on here. Joey Ryan
Had a great tweet about it
Saying you put your life in someone else's hands when you violate that trust. You're not one of us. Yeah
So there's that because you just trying to oversell the bit or just I haven't heard any any motivation
yet a couple of Smackdown notes
Because Smackdown is now
Love you saw that
And during the Bobby Rude match JVL said
When your match get to the pay window get you some beer money. Uh, I see what you did there. Yeah, see what you did
They're JVL. I paused it and I go really
And I really did you see the the coins that Nadi has on the belt. Yeah, no big fan. They look really cool
Check it out when you get a chance
And that's all I got for Smackdown. All right, let's get into movie talk because I'm ready to talk movies
Plus we're edging ever closer to Game of Thrones
All right box office numbers from our friends at box office mojo.com
This is this weekend was the worst August box office weekend in 15 years
The top 12 combined did not break 50 million dollars this weekend
What
That is a true story
Your winner of the weekend did 10
What was it night right there? We'll get there. We'll get there
And that will go number one I guarantee you dropping out of the top 10 you asked for it
Dropping out of the top 10 this week dropping from 5 to 11 the nut job to Nadi by nature
$2.2 million dollars three weeks 22 million out of 40 million dollar budget
I tune to the number. Oh geez 312. Okay, and the dark tower drops from 9 to 14 1.6 million dollars four weeks
45 million it didn't even make budget much less marketing and part of me still wants to see it but
At home, I haven't talked to anybody who enjoyed it. I want to literally no at home
Just saying dropping from 10 to 8 to 10 this week girls trip
2.3 million dollars six weeks 108 million dollars on a 19 million dollar budget
And sequel talk is underway
So there's that see it brights me to that was good flick
The emoji movie drops from 6th to 9th this week
Top 10 2.4 yep 2.4 million dollars 5 weeks 76 million dollars on a 50 million dollar budget
And there was a story that came out about that a couple of weeks ago
We'll talk about we'll talk about that off. Yeah
Birds of the dragon WWE films debut in 8th place 23% on Rotten Tomatoes
2.5 million dollars don't have a budget on that spider is that the same movie as
Dragon the Bruce Lee story that came out. I think it's one piece of that
Yeah, with Jason Scott Lee, which is no relationship except that movie was really good
Spider-Man Homecoming stays in seventh place this week another 2.7 million dollars 8 weeks 319 million dollars 175 budget
They're gonna be okay
Done Kirk still on the top 10 drops from 4 to 6 this week 4 million dollars 6 weeks
172.5 million dollars 100 million dollar budget and it lost almost 500 theaters. I want to see that
Logan Lucky drops from the bronze medal to 5th place or as we like to call it not an iTunes exclusive because we couldn't record it
But we do have our written reviews at www dot the clubhousepodcast.com
That's our website. Okay, you caught it that time. That was the second time tonight
Uh, but that made another 4.4 million dollars two weeks 15 million dollars. It's about halfway to budget
When the river jumps from 10 to 4 this week iTunes exclusive 309
4.4 million dollars 9.8 million dollars 11 million dollar budget. I love this is a good film. This is an excellent film. Oh, you'll make my top 10
Uh, now that it was like the end of a try trail. Yeah, well kind. It's kind of a trilogy. It's not really a trilogy. Yeah, okay
I kind of talk about that at my written review at www dot the clubhousepodcast.com
Which is our website uh leap debuts on the bronze because bronze medal poses is an animated film 5 million dollars
Annabelle creation stays in second place
You want 7.4. I will stab you with this pen
Three weeks 78 million dollars on a 15 million dollar budget
There's an audience for it. I'm not part of it
But there's an audience for it. Let's look at one of it winning the weekend two weeks in a row
It is the hitman's bodyguard 10 million dollars two weeks just under 40 million dollars on a 30 million dollar
I'm gonna have to do that one next weekend over the three weeks. I'm gonna say something
Think about that it won the weekend at 10.1
Yeah, and they got 12 dollars from me to go see that movie this weekend
Right you see why didn't you let me know they could have $24 well because um it was a whim
Why did just go to MC? I was I was bored. I got my little change. I'm like let's go see hitman's bodyguard
Well, why don't you just go to MC? Was it not worth your time sir? I say I was going to but by the time I got out of the oil change place
I was I was 12 minutes late and by the time I got there and walked in I'd be
22 minutes late, but yeah, and that's and that's the over the 19 that said Andrew. Yeah, was it worth your time? Oh, yeah
Okay, great. Okay. I just your your tone of voice was not does not vary committee. Oh, no, no Sam Jackson singing. Okay, that's all I need
All right, so super troopers to has a release date next year on 420 go figure
If you're a fan of Narcos
They're on Netflix their star Pedro Pascal will be playing the villain in the sequel to the equalizer
Which I still haven't seen
So we also have now rounded out the the cast for
Brian singers Bohemian Rhapsy, which is the Freddie Mercury story
Joe Mazzello will be playing bassist John Deacon Ben Hardy will be playing drummer Roger Taylor
Guilam Lee will be playing guitarist Brian May and Remi Malik will be playing Freddie Mercury. There's your cast
Martin Lawrence now saying bad boys three is not happening
Boo hoo. Oh, man. Yeah, you're okay with shucks because I like the first day fiddle sticks interesting
story coming out this week that Martin Scorsese
Or Scorsese depending on who you are
He's working on a Joker origin film. I saw something about that. I went
I mean if you need somebody to go to to do dark stories. That's the dude
But I just didn't ever expected him to be attached to some kind of a comic book property and the images they were using were for the
Film that you did not care for
At least with your goal for it
Notative for the Annabelle creation. Notative for the Joker and Harley Quinn. Oh, how much that yeah
Crazy the guys that directed crazy stupid love and the executive producers of this is us
They're going to handle that Joker and Harley Quinn movie
Glenn Ficcara and John Rayquah. Oh, okay, so well, I mean I think what Scorsese is working on this separate project crazy stupid love was a good movie
I enjoyed crazy stupid love a lot more than I should have
uh
Interesting listing on IMDb last week and there's now been announced as your next DC animated universe film coming out
They have I think it's next year
Does anybody in this room
Know what Gotham by gaslight is
No, I have heard that
But I don't know context
In the late 80s and early 90s
dc did a series called elseworld and what this was was they would take their their heroes and they would put him at different times in history
So they did one called uh that man bad blood where he became a vampire
They did a green lantern one
Where the very first green lantern on earth it takes place in fuel japan
They did one called Superman red sun where what would have happened if his rocket landed in Moscow and not in smallville
And like batman's like a piece of he's a revolutionary in russia
Gotham by gaslight it takes place in london in the 1800s and it's batman chasing jack the river
It's an excellent story
But I saw the listing on IMDb this past weekend. I was like whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa hold on back to truck up
And then I saw a story today on IMDb saying yeah, it's the next one
Interesting that one I will definitely have to check out
I really enjoyed the graphic now. It's like I've been called a graphic novel. It's a one-off
I think I've got it in there somewhere
Moving new releases in places you see moving new releases this week a lot of
The stuff that I'm seeing before actually before we get to that
I want to send a shout out to uh to friend of the show i need her nandes
Who we knew we all know from the screens we go to don yes she is actually in a film
That's gonna be coming out very very soon
By writer director Andrew Allen. It's called glow not gorgeous ladies of wrestling
So if you look it up on IMDb you'll look under glow
2017 I believe it's it's got like a it's got a the numeral two
Roman numeral two after it a husband and wife on the verge of divorce their kids a lonely young man a father struggling to support his family
A single mother and a pit of drug addiction and a minister wallowing an anger and doubt all search for light and a dark city
uh
This is actually going to be screening here in the Dallas Fort Worth area
uh next weekend
Over the Labor Day weekend
So if you would like to check it out go to the IMDb page for it
You can also email them at the glow movie at gmail.com
uh
Also friend of the show Tim Taylor who you may be we was we was that two or three years ago at the at the video fest
Yeah the video fest he was in the hunger games
Yeah
Quality human being big fan of the guy
He's in this movie as well
So go check out and you can send emails to the glow movie at gmail.com for more information
I believe it's the second the fourth and the seventh
I know the second for sure on Saturday they'll be a screening. I believe it's going to be at the angelica
So make sure you look up glow look under 2017 the new Roman numeral two
uh
The the poster is like in a circle. It looks like fractions of the circle or different people in the film
So go check that out. We want to send them a shout out and
Wish them all the best as they're trying to get to word out about their film
So let's talk about moving your releases that you can get in movie new really in places you see movie new releases this week
Starting out with tulip fever
This is the alisha vickander
and the dain dahan
An artist falls for a young woman while he's commissioned to paint her portrait during the tulip mania of 17th century Amsterdam
Well, right? It seems kind of artsy
Also, if you remember a movie from back in 2011 that Sean William Scott did called goon. It was a hockey film. Yep
The sequel comes out this week really goon last of the enforcers a hockey player is plagued by injuries and confronted with the possibility of retirement
When a tough new player challenges his status as the league's top enforcer
Sean William Scott is back for this alisha kuthbird is in it. Leav Shriver T. James Miller
Allison pill jay bearishel calum Keith reney is also in this as well
So and look bearishel was a co-writer on it got that going for you
Also a film called the layover
This is not the the tom hanks film that was the terminal
just so you know
This has the Kate upton and the Alexandra didario that's a whole lot of you doing going on right there brother two friends going a road trip together
Um, did I read that right? William H. Macy directed this
Kate upton Alexandra didario
She's a cal pen rob cordry molly Shannon macy's actually in it as well
Uh, Carolyn a dare Monica Lopez in this
So you got that going for you, which is a nice
Also a movie called unlocked, which I was kind of hoping I might be able to watch this week
But I don't know if I'm going to get to it or not, but we want to give some love to the company that sends us these things
This is directed by Michael aptid
A CIA and interrogator is lured into a ruse that puts London at risk of a biological attack
Nomi rapace Michael Douglas Tony colette Orlando Bloom John Malkovich are all in this
That sounds amazing. Yeah, I mean we got an email for it
I don't know if I'm gonna get to it. I hope so also a movie called Viceroy's house a lot of more
Off the beaten path because we're getting to
That the end of the summer, but we're not quite in the fall season yet
So a lot more independent film uh this time of year
the Viceroy's house
Basically this the the final Viceroy of India lord mountain is tasked with overseeing the transition of British
India to independence
But meets with conflict as different sides clash in the face of a monumental change
Gillian Anderson's in this Michael Gambon, Hugh Bonneville, Lily Travers, Simon Williams
Terrence Harvey
So again, so a lot of more off the beaten path films as we're getting ready to go right into everybody's final push for awards
Speaking of which I got an email this week. We don't let you guys know
Baby drivers gonna be back in theaters
Sweet so if you want to go check that out if you haven't you need to I loved this movie
And the blue ray's not out till October yeah, so
Only a couple of deep movie blue ray releases the Batman and Harley Quinn animated film and bring it on world-wide
hashtag cheer smack
That's a thing remind me not to watch it. Hey Don. Yeah, don't watch that. Thank you. Okay
Uh only one quick item for tech corner this week
The presales for the SNES classic are sold out
Not surprised didn't buy the other one hang on buy this one if you're not gonna let me do expansion
I don't care exactly like oh for five thousand dollars you get 20 classic games
Raspberry Pi what's up? So I'm saying exactly 35 bucks. All right. Are you guys ready for the list?
Let's do the list. Are you ready for a list? It's gonna blow you mind. I'm ready. Yes. I already for a list that everybody can contribute to
Yes, at least I hope so okay
So Andrew and I were having a conversation earlier this week
Oh, and I'm scared it triggered an idea
We are right around the corner from fall premieres
And Andrew and I are huge family guy fans
love that show
It's going to send me to hell, but I'm kind of okay with it
um
But I was thinking we were talking I was like you know what what are the top 10 things that family guy has ruined for me
Or more specifically what are family guys most brilliant moments that have ruined things for me
So that's tonight's list
number 10 and I
I have to do this in the style of the show
So
Starlight Express
Starlight Express
Starlight Express
Starlight Express
If you just look it up
Anytime somebody mentions Andrew Lloyd Weber that's what I hear in my head is Peter Griffin doing starlight express
And he gets just so defiant where he's just like looking at you. He's going starlight express
Starlight Express
And I'm having flashbacks of seeing it at fair park with the ring out of the
Telling you
I laughed for 10 minutes. I had to pause the DVR
Yeah, number nine
Roadhouse house
Roadhouse
There's this episode where Peter decides he's going to beat Dalton
And so he's driver at his car and he's every time he hits some of this car he just goes roadhouse
And it goes on and on and on
So every time somebody I just hear Peter in my head roadhouse
Number eight and I have to explain this
There's a character on family guy named Cleveland Brown
At one point Cleveland got his own show the Cleveland show. Yeah, I am of the firm belief
That if Cleveland ever sang on that show we would find out that Cleveland Brown is really boss gags
So now every time you know, I can just see Cleveland in my head singing it
So boss gags now ruined by family guy
Indirectly and they probably don't even know it
number seven
Any bit that ends quickly
Because if family guy is good at one thing
It's taking a bit and stretching it about 45 seconds longer than they should
Reference starlight express
And it's and you know they do it on purpose
But it's brilliant and I love it
And so so now I'm like oh wait, that's it when other people do it's like there's no there's no more than that you keep going
Number six
Any new show that has a segment related to you know it grinds my gaze
Yeah
If you watch the three-part episode which is also called the family guy movie
Where Stewie goes and finds out he's adopted and he goes look for his birth father
Peter gets a segment on the news called what grinds my gears
I can't say what the last one is
Because this is a family show
But when he goes on this rant about Lindsay Lohan
And how they walk out of doors no, no, that's a different episode. Oh, okay. I'm on the crab walk. Yeah, that's a completely different episode. Okay, great gravy
I'm Lindsay Lohan and here's how a crab box
Oh my gravy
But he goes on this rant like why are you looking at me like that Lindsay what are we gonna go on a date?
Are we getting together it just oh any kind of opinion piece on the news
It's just Peter Griffith going you know what grinds my gaze
Number five double entendre
Because if you listen closely at the beginning of the show I
Said something and Andrew and Diggity
That was teasing this list because Andrew knew because I told him that's why he had to be here
Any kind of it's either it's either Diggity or it's me doing the silent nod and smile Chandler Bing thing
Yeah, and you just kind of know what to do afterwards and I love it when he just does it in the background
If quagmire is in a scene and somebody said I'll just end the backer easier
Giggity
And that's happened a lot the past two seasons
Of number four a certain ornithological piece in the newspaper
I
Have on vinyl right now an album that's called shana not silly songs. I'm not afraid to say I own it
Got it when I was like eight. That's an awesome album and one of the songs they do on there is surf and bird
I remember that
Surf and bird has become an absolute thing with family guy because they didn't episode
Where Peter became obsessed with surf and bird just obsessed with it to the point where they stole the record from him
And they did a shot for shot remake of the destroying of the copy machine in office space
With the record for surf and bird to the point where where they walk away and stewie turns back and tries to do it again and Brian grabs
And if it would be if it had been just contained of that episode
It would have been fine, but they've done it like six times since
Yeah, we're peer old T's it and you'll hear sugar. No, don't do it
I'm a pal man. I'm a man. I'm a man. I'm a woman. Oh, and he'll start dancing
I remember the one everybody bird bird. Okay, that is surf and bird. Okay, that seems on
Let's not watch the poll you need to
Last night someone in a fight watching party said oh, wow, what is this paper right here and this guy that I
I had just met last night he goes is it a certain
Anthropologically
And and I just jumped in and so on else we went through the whole thing. Yeah, I mean
Oh god, I was I was so red like I look like a beat. I was sweating laughing
number three
Axel F the song
There's an episode where Peter goes back in time
And he's supposed to be because what happens is he screws up something and he and Lois don't end up getting married
So he has to go back in time to the moment in the 80s where they get together
And he keeps forgetting to go to meet Lois because he's at some dance club and he's dancing to Axel F
But he's singing it so he's going
Well, that's funny enough because then he's like oh crap death. I screwed it up. Tell me back again
That was my ringtone on Chad's phone at one point
Now Chad
Carries his phone everywhere that goes at this point. He was working for a local pest control company
He is at Dallas City Hall
And a very very serious moment as he's trying to get paperwork done
You know in city hall
For gets to put his phone on vibrate
I don't know this
I send him a text message
And apparently you could have heard a pin drop from 50 yards out in this room and then
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
He called me is like dude. I'm like you should turn your phone on vibrate. That's not my fault
I used to play it on the flute. There you go. That was the thing in in band was
Axel F number two
If you've ever seen the episode where Tom Cruise
Becomes Stewie's best friend
Hmm
That is that is a standalone episode that will be burned into my brain for the rest of ever
Could spoil our alert and three two don't say the one the way they get rid of him
If they put him in a box and they ship him to like amazon or something
And so the guy at amazon opens the box and he's like oh hey Tom what's going on like like everybody seems to do this
And cruise goes your day just got more awesome
And he's like the same height as stewie which makes it even better
Because stewie's a baby. Oh yeah
Andrew you want to guess what number one is
You know that's a good question. What's what's the one thing we haven't talked about yet
Mom mother no mommy no that is a great moment though
That is and remember stewie's email address is lowest must die at Yahoo dot com. Yes
I'm gonna have to go. It's it's with a certain spread that you put on things no, no no no no no
Ladies and gentlemen oh, yes
Mr Conway to you
In the last three seasons they've got into this thing where
If they just like if they hit a brick wall Peter just goes ladies and gentlemen
Conway Tweetie and they play actual footage of Conway Tweetie singing random songs.
And there was one time they played the entire song going to break.
It's just like, he's gentlemen, Conway Tweetie and he's on some like, I don't know if he's
on like the Mike Douglas show or like, it's the actual footage of Conway Tweetie and
you're just like, what the heck is going on here?
Is it that I know you've never been this far before song?
I think it was.
Yeah, and they played the whole song.
It's like three minutes.
And rest just for the chat room.
My favorite was now ladies and gentlemen, Conway Tweetie.
Yes.
It's just.
And for those of you listening, we have both Rob and Andrew have totally lost it.
They're bright red from last night.
Because it's brilliant.
Is it joy in this room?
Yes.
It's infectious.
I'm sorry.
I should Instagram this because it's just fun to watch.
I want to say the first time they did it, it was some weird Bill Clinton reference.
And it's just like, everything stopped and Peter just goes, ladies and gentlemen, Conway
Tweetie.
And they just wipe out of the animation into live action.
And they've done this like seven or eight times.
And then one time they meshed it up with Justin Bieber.
They did.
I like to film then.
No, it's great.
I tell you, when you see it in context, it is one of the funniest things.
On God's green earth.
Yeah.
And it's brilliant.
And it's a perfect way to just get out of something, just throw it to something completely
or random.
Oh, I love this show so much.
I think that we forgot who's worse than America's most things, you know, America's favorite
game show.
Who passed away when we could go today?
A week ago today?
Jerry Lewis.
Jerry Lewis.
Yeah.
Jerry Lewis.
Yeah, absolutely.
It was the day of summer.
It was the summer.
That's right.
Because we didn't do in memoriam because it was summer slam.
That was actually a big weekend for Celebrity S.
Yeah.
Because you had him and Dick Gregory, both passing away in the same way.
But yeah, we got, I'm sorry, that guy deserves a few moments because there's a, there's
a pinhouse in heaven with his name on it for what he's done for M.D.A.
Yeah.
I mean, how much I've been interested to see what they do next weekend because it's the
Labor Day telephone.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, he was the reason that, I mean, that telephone was the reason that Dean and
Jerry got back together because Sinatra was on the telephone and he brought Dean Martin
out.
I mean, how many millions has he raised?
Mm-hmm.
Well, yeah.
For M.D.A.
I mean hundreds.
And he said, I will do this every day until I can no longer do it.
And he did.
Yeah.
No.
And also, like I said, that we can Dick Gregory too, who is maybe not as well known as Jerry
Lewis, but was a huge activist, very funny man, very poignant man, very deep man, very
smart man.
Yeah.
So absolutely no.
I mean, you talk about comedy, you'll link them together.
Yeah.
Because how many cartoon shows have we seen Dean and Jerry Lewis being parodyed?
I mean, Anna Maniacs did it all the time.
You with the people you were over here and now you're over here.
I mean, they did a whole parody episode where they did, it was a full episode that they
parodyed Apocalypse Now.
And Jerry Lewis was the villain.
So I mean, that tells you the brilliance.
Yeah.
And Dick Gregory also very well known.
I mean, he was reference in House Party, for God's sake, you know.
So let's look at the room.
Anna reminds you the next two weeks.
Next week, we're going to be playing you Don's interviews from the Women Texas Film Festival.
Great job, by the way, sir.
Thank you.
It was good.
I mean, what I loved about that and you guys will hear it next week, Don really had a good
time and you could tell.
Yeah, it was fun.
And usually I'm on the other side.
Yeah.
You're usually rounded up again.
And I got to say that was kind of weird listening to because I'm like, I'm used to be me doing
this.
I'm listening to Don.
You know, I took a lot of, I did the snare questions.
What's this about?
But there's one or two questions, like I took advice from you.
Oh, thank you.
Asked them a question that they probably never been asked before.
And I've done that a couple of times on a couple of times.
That's what I try to do.
Yeah.
So it's not the same thing.
And a couple of them actually went.
You know what?
That's a next one question.
And that's a new trend with moderators and things that the panels is trying to come up
with the question that that one has.
Yeah.
Because that makes you stand out and also makes your guests more comfortable.
So you're going to get that next week.
Two weeks from tonight, we will be re-earing the very first episode of this show ever.
I can't wait to share that with you guys for those of you that didn't quite work quite
down with us since day one because again, we've never aired that.
The first...
Actually, you can't even get anything that with you stream, their archive only goes back
like a month now.
So our...
I mean, our RSS feed only goes back to January 6, 2013, as far as you can go back on iTunes.
So this goes back even farther than that.
And you'll be able to hear where this show started.
I make no guarantees.
I will be listening to it myself for the first time in years, this week, as I put that
in the can.
So you will have content for the next two weeks.
And then we'll be back live September the 17th with an abnormal show.
And then after that, we'll be WWE No Mercy.
As hopefully the weather starts to cool off a little bit more.
Beautiful right now.
And it's like the highest of the highest this week is like 83, which I will take all
day long.
Yeah, I think the thing I saw was only in Texas will you have a solar eclipse, a burned
man, a hurricane, a hurricane, there's a whole bunch in the same week.
And of course, Texas going here hold my beer watch this.
And make sure if you're following me on social media, I will be Instagramming the crap
out of Bama, Paloza 2017.
Cannot wait to see my friends back home.
If you see goofy, tell him hello, oh, I will see goofy, making no mistake.
Have a permany.
I will be having some permany is there will be a public sub involved while I'm home.
Yeah, there's people that are jealous that you're getting public subs, if you like shipping
any back.
Oh, no, they don't, they don't travel well.
I mean, I have to put them on dry eyes.
I mean, he does travel.
I mean, if you can't hit him.
I got a fly, dude.
You know, they do.
Well, that's why I said ship it.
They do shipping, permany is just shipping.
So and again, shout out, shout out to the Hanson family for taking care of me.
I can't wait to see everybody.
If you want to donate Red Cross, yeah, please do, you know, the Red Cross is doing it.
And you can even text.
I don't have the number on either showing it during the game today.
You can text and donate $10.
Just write off from your phone to help the Red Cross or just whatever cause you want
to donate to to help our friends in South Texas.
We are thinking about you and unfortunately, there's going to be scammers out there.
So yeah, something like the Red Cross because they were there when I had that fire, they
were there.
They took care of you.
I remember well, they're now, they're now now, you know, money is going to go to good
use.
Yeah, that's good.
You know, all right, shall we do the plugs?
Let's go for it.
