The Clubhouse – Episode 47

It is 651 on the east coast for posterity's sake, 351 on the west coast.
Starting a little bit early tonight, but it's because where you are live from
sooner or later studios, because it is the 16th of June of the year of our
Lord 2019, season 9 episode 474 times this voice and or this face, which you
can't see it right now, has welcomed you to the clubhouse podcast live every
Sunday night normally at 7 Eastern for Pacific, your one-stop shop for all
things pop culture. It is Father's Day, so happy Father's Day to all of you out
there. Part of the reason that we are at sooner or gator studios today, but we
will be on the vocal now network very very quickly. My name is Rob, I am the
executive producer of the clubhouse podcast and it's Father's Day. It's Father's
Day and we're not doing a pay-per-view pre-show. It's been a while since that
happened. Don out on assignment today, chat also out on assignment today, so let's
go around the day of sitting in the co-host chair. It's a man that didn't have
to change his shirt because we can't see him on either show today. He is Alex,
welcome sir. Yeah, I was actually really prepared. I had both shirts lined up
for the studio, everything set to go and I'm glad Jay spent a time with his
dad. We haven't gotten there yet. Oh, very little bit. Thanks for paying attention.
Riding out the day is the Lady of the House and she already knows what to pay
attention to because she just heard me chest-sized. Alex, we're not paying
attention. She is General, welcome friend. Hello everyone and Happy Father's Day.
So part of the reason that we are here at the studio, the home studio today is
it's Jay's dad's birthday. So why would we have Jay trapped in the in the
engineer room? We could be spending time with his family for his dad's birthday
and Father's Day. Well, it's because I was at a duct tape. It is also the
birthday of Fred and the show Mikey Craft. We call him.com. So happy birthday.com.
And happy anniversary to two of my favorite people on God's Green Earth, Tom and
Patty Hansen. Celebrating. Oh geez. That many years. You went full Wisconsin.
Almost 30. Impressive. Even close to 30. That takes some commitment and some
work. I was still in high school when they got married. And their their wedding
was the first DJ gig I ever had. Oh, wow. Was there a wedding reception? So
they said that this is all their fault. So congratulations, Tom and Patty
happy anniversary to you. Let's get right into it. I didn't have any updates or
corrections from last week. So and we really don't have NASCAR this week because
I know we should probably fill in. What's that? We had alluded to it on a
prior show. Maybe you should fill in with why this week's gonna be better for
you than last week. Well, is it? I think so. So or at least less dumb. And I'm
seated. This also probably benefits me. So last week after the show was as we
documented some very rough weather last Sunday and this Sunday. Very very
rough. If you heard the cheap pop cash or a little thunder in the background and
not the print song. So Alex and I ride together because my house is on the way
to vocal from his house and it makes no sense for us to burn twice the gas. So I
bring Alex back here. He parks his car in front of the studio in front of the
home studio dropped him off. He pulls away. And as we pull in, we noticed that the
only damage that we suffered during storm was we had one branch on one tree. The
one right in front of the house that I recently had been cited for by the
great city of Mesquite because in Mesquite you have to have you basically can't
have it where somebody can walk into a branch on the sidewalk. And it's an
excessive height and 10 feet clear. Menute bowl has to be able to sprint along
your street. Yes. So I didn't want to get excited again, which I knew I probably
wouldn't because you know the storm which did a ton of damage and we hope
everybody's doing okay. I've been saying all week I've never seen that much
damage done and that abbreviated time frame in my entire life. To the point
where so many people were out of power, it took me two hours to get to work last
Monday in an hour or 45 to get home. And the first time I ever dipped out going
through a non-driving area to avoid storms. 28 miles door to door just so you know.
So I noticed this and I'm like, oh I need to go ahead and take care of this now
because I got stuff going on this week. And I noticed that it wasn't completely
ripped down. But it was down. So if you notice my social media post about it, there
was a conversation between my brain and my body. And the brain was like, oh
down, down, down, down, branch, just get rid of it. And body's like, you know, we
should probably get the power tool for this because you got a sauce on the
garage. The brain's like, no, no, we can do this because that's we have to walk
all the way behind the house and it's muddy in the grass. We have to walk all the
way around again. And we're not sure if the batteries are charged. The body's
like, no, no, it's fine. Just go get it. Body says the brain says no, we're doing
this. So my first thought is to pull down on the branch, thinking it would
crack the wood. But the wood had already been splintered. So all it did was just
bend. Now, the other question is, is this within your reach, or are you having to
jump a little bit? No, no, it's within my reach. Okay. If I'm standing on that
second step, okay, it was it was almost eye level to me. Let me let me look
along. We're checking for posterity sake. Yeah, that's about right. Because I can
see the tree from from the studio. Right. And so it bending. And I was like, well,
okay, that didn't do much. So I decide that I'm going to wrap it around the tree to
force it in directions that it wouldn't naturally go. Hence breaking the branch
branch comes down. You had your own logical exercise. At this point, I am
while while the coyote boy genius. That doesn't work. So I decide, now I noticed
I've got it moving a little bit. So I'm going to come around the other side to
finish the job. As as I pull going clockwise around the tree, the tree decides
to give up the branch. I have had bad knees. My first knee injury was circus
1994. That would be the left one. Okay. The right one went about five years
later. I am working under the assumption currently that I have no ligaments in
either of my knees. No cartilage. There's something missing. Yeah. Because there
are times and it's and these things have happened like when I'm walking where
I'll feel the bones shift horizontally. Miniscence. That's the word I'm looking for.
Is that what it is? The miniscence is the patting between your bones. Yeah. And it
hurts like the dickens. Which is why I don't jump off of things because it just
bone shifts. I go straight to the ground. I land on the left knee bone shifts. I
go straight to the ground. Branch falls on top of me. It has broken off the
tree. Okay. So it is a detached branch. So the body does say what do you think
now? Brain says, well, branch is down in it. And the knee replies. It's still not
right. Oh, I was expecting the knee replies. I hate. Now the Monday morning was
tough. I mean, it was it's I don't I don't think it's like I don't think it's
inflated at all. Inflated or inflamed? No, what's the I can't want the word swollen?
That's the word I'm looking for. I've been looking for that word for three days.
So most of the pain during the week has come from behind the knee. But now and for the
last couple three days, there's been a tightness in the calf. Which is weird. So I'm going to
give it a few more days before I decide I'm going to go have somebody take a look at it.
And I have to throw out to our female listeners. How'd you witness a male in your life having
this internal battle? At what point do you pick up your smartphone and start filming?
That is a good question to put it on you to to make a sensation. I know I know your
gen wouldn't do that to you. My wife is above such shenanigans. I just said your gen wouldn't
do that to you. Nor would I do that to her. But for our other female listeners that have
minned in their life, what point would you have done that?
Because he hears my thing with that. I believe that that is a form of bullying and it should
not be done. Plain and simple. That's a fair response. Plain and simple. So if you hear
anybody. Because we all do bonehead things. We all do. And we own our bonehead things. So to put
that out there for public consumption, it's humiliating and to me it's wrong. When I see stuff like
that, I keep scrolling because I won't buy into it. And I guess I see it as I've had I've seen
that internal dialogue going on and have discussed with males in my life. Do you really think
that's the best course of action? And they don't want to go get the saaza or whatever and do it
that way. And I have to record it for posterity sake. But let me ask you. You're a big fan of
I told you so. But again, what does that benefit you though? That's what I'm trying to figure out.
Like if you say you're not going to post it, but you're going to film it, what does that do?
Like that's for her to come up later on. It's. But again, why does that benefit you?
You know what happened. I know what happened. I want them to see what it looks like from the other
perspective. But why? This is what I'm trying to figure out. What's the benefit to that?
Because in that case, I was right and they were wrong and they chose not to listen.
So you just want to be a jerk about it for stuff like that. Yeah. But basically you're reminding me of
my mother who would shoot the burglar and then tell him why. This is probably because I don't have
kids. So therefore I must mother everyone else. That's not mothering. That's just torturing. Yeah, but
when that happens the other way around, what is your reaction to it? See, this is where the
difficulty comes into play. No, that's why I'm we're having this discussion. This is where the
difficulty comes into play because everybody wants to do that when it's somebody else. But when
the shoes on the other foot, it becomes no, you can't do that. And I think part of what I was
raised with when it comes to things that involve home repair, landscaping, things that could involve
harming yourself. I'm not talking about rough house play with a kid when you get hurt and stuff.
I'm talking about things where the smart way we'd be to involve a second person or some tools
rather than trying to use pure sheer gravity. I've learned to listen because I've been in
environments. I mean, I didn't know cars went in the garage. The garage was filled with hand
tools, power tools, all of that. I agree with you there. So I was raised with that. I was raised
how you hold an hammer to get different pressure. You move your grip on the handle. I was took
shop class. So I've learned that you have to listen. And I think part of it is because the source
it's coming from when it comes from me, I get doubted. And so for me, it's to get to say, I do
actually have a brain. I do know what I'm talking about. But to me, that worth, I just I don't get
and I never will. And a lot of this is because I spent a lifetime being bullied because I was
smaller than everybody else. And I was the butt of a lot of jokes to people who thought it was
cool to to find things about me that were not up to what they considered to be snuff
and to chastise me for it. And that's why I don't understand. And I refuse to understand
the logic behind it. And it could also be it has never happened on this show. It has never
happened with anyone on the cast here. But I do get some bullying because there are people that
do think I am dumb. I admit I say dumb things. No, we all do. But I am not dumb. And I have people
that firmly believe I don't have a clue what I'm talking about until it does blow up in their face.
And I guess for me though, knowing the knowledge of it is enough for me. I don't need the physical
evidence of it. Because if it doesn't affect me directly, I could take you go to myself for about
five minutes. And then I just move on. You know, you were warned. You didn't listen. This happened
because but I'm also not and I told you so guy. Yeah. And like with my sisters kids,
if they're going to do something that could get hurt, I'm like, I'm going to laugh at you when
you get hurt. And they still do it. And I'll laugh. And they realize, okay, Jen was right.
But I don't film them. I think it's when it's the ones that I constantly get that feeling from
that they don't think I know what I'm talking about. And see, I guess that's where the technology
piece of it comes into play. Like there are certain things that I've seen that I will
and fully admit that I have laughed at. It was I was that they showed one on Levitard the other day
where two guys were on a roof. And their counterpart was on the ground. And they he decided he
wanted to catch the bag of cement from the roof that they were. No, I've seen this. Yeah.
Like you look at that and you go, but I don't know.
It's really that's just a hot button thing. And this simple story has gotten completely into a
different place. But yeah, I guess that just doesn't it. We've gotten to a point where everybody has
to film everything. And it kind of wears me out. Yeah. Because especially if it's somebody you know,
there's a certain level of I kind of sort of in a way and a very round about very vague way, get it.
But when you're filming people, you like I was at a pharmacy recently. And there was a young lady
in front of me. And there was a there's an older lady in front of her. And I'm not going to go into
detail because reasons. But there was something just a little bit off that this lady was not aware of.
And this girl was filming it and putting it on Snapchat. And I was watching her do it. Okay,
that I have a problem with. But I still have a problem no matter who it is posting it without that
person going, yeah, I'm okay with it. If if if we have a laugh and something happens, that is
completely different. You know, I fully tell the story because I'm owning it. Yeah. Nobody had
to put any evidence up against it. And my wife was very, very gracious when I came inside because
my shoes were just covered in mud. And I said, honey, can you just clean my shoes? I got to sit
out. And that's what or what happened. And I mean, and I know in her head she was like, you probably
knew that was coming. But there's a difference between me telling this story. Which and not because
Alex prompted it. Because we had agreed on the previous show. Correct. That we would talk about it
on this show. But there would be a difference between that and Alex. And let me tell you what Rob
did last week. I see that. That's that's where it gets to me. No, and I follow I follow what you're
saying. And what what's really funny to me is the reason why I wanted to share it was because
between us, it's a funny story because I'd say I'd do the same thing. It's you know, there was
logic behind it. It just wasn't the right sense of logic. The execution perhaps. Right.
I've used it. It's like we like to be you and I say a lot. The idea was great. The execution
was poor. Yes. And as I threw in there, you didn't have a discussion with another person saying,
are you sure this is the way you want to go about this? Whereas the voices in my head would be
probably the discussion. That's different. But no, yeah. Well, I'm saying, I'm saying when this
is a case where I've stood there and said, I realize what this didn't happen. But I'm saying,
someone's standing there going, I realize what you're thinking. And that's really not going to go
well. And you have that discussion. And then you do it anyway. That's when it's let's see,
even in those situations for me, I just look and go, yeah, it's not great. Well, and if I've had
that discussion, I personally know the person too. So it's not, no, I don't agree with. If you
see someone's tag hanging out, or they're slipping it, there's a polite way to tell that person.
Posting it on Snapchat is not the polite way to do that. Yeah. That really, like,
that chaps my hide. That was there was almost a point where I just want to look at her and go,
really, that's what you're doing. That's, is that the best representation of you right there?
Like, yeah, what would that lady was dealing with was a little weird. And I might have backed up
a step or two, but that doesn't give me the right to put it out there without hurting out with it.
That's just crappy pool. That is, that is bully. And I guarantee she was texting it to people,
and I was like, really? Because if you really want to play this game,
you're just from what I can see, you're already clean either.
But, I mean, it happened. I'm still dealing with it.
You know, we'll see how it goes. Luckily, there's nothing on the horizon that's going to require
a lot out of me outside of this Saturday, but I'm going to get some help with that. So,
all right. Let's get into some TV headlines. So I didn't even know this was a thing.
We had talked about the bad boys spin off TV show. That was going to be, and I thought it was
dead. Oh, my God. That was going to be on NBC. It's not on NBC. It's the fabulous spectrum
originals. I saw a commercial for it last night. Didn't even know that's what it was.
It's called LA's finest. And spectrum has given it a season two. Wait a minute, wait a minute.
Are we sure that's the same thing? Because LA, I mean, LA's finest. I read it today.
Oh, wow. With the Gabrielle Union. I could go. I could carry the sea less. So,
so we talked a couple of weeks ago about, I know we didn't do because it would have been a spoiler.
Endgame's been out long enough. We can talk about it. Let's do it. But we will.
Okay. So, kind of sort of. Three, two, one.
It's isn't really a spoiler by technical definition, but some could see it that way.
Now, General, you've seen, but you have seen Infinity War, correct? Yes. Okay.
So, we know that, what's my music? There it is. Vision Scarlet, which is going to take place in
the 50s, which is already weird. Yeah. We found out this week that the Loki series
is going to take place in the 70s. Intriguing. So, Marvel continues to
murk the timeline. It's basically like Marvel's answer to, oh, you think things should have
continuity? That's cute. Yeah. And DC Wonder Woman's supposed to be the 80s. 1984. I like the
title. Big fan of this. I like the suit that they showed. I like the suit in the picture. Yes.
Both of those classy onboard with both. And was it the first Wonder Woman or Justice League where
she was pregnant? I believe it was Justice League. I'd have to look it up. Let me, let me,
let me be the fact checker on that one. Not a problem. For today. I figured as the Wonder Woman fan,
you might have known something in the vein of somebody's trying to fix something in this world. Uh-huh.
Given the debacle that was Dark Phoenix. Oh, God. Which at one point, Kinberg came out. It's like,
it just didn't see its audience. And now today, he's like, yeah, I can't get on this.
The creative team behind the animated X-Men series is meeting with Disney to try to bring it back.
Oh, I heard about this. Please, in the name of all things good and holy make this happen. Yes.
Because that animated series, General, if you have not seen this, because she has that look on
her face, like she might be a little lost here. Go back. I'm sure you could probably get it on Hulu,
because now, Disney owns most of Hulu. Go back and watch that Fox animated series from the 90s.
Which one? I was X-Men. No, I did see that. Sorry, I was doing my research.
Yeah, I'm just saying, if you didn't watch that go back, because that animated series really got
it right. That's what I got into. Oh, is that okay? Yeah. So good. And I do this, please.
And in that same vein of, we think about the technology that's been enhanced just from an
animation standpoint. And I'll go out on a limb and say this, X-Men is either, I don't know if
I should just say for me, it's my favorite of all time, or I think it's the best animated series of
all time. You know, my bias. I know you're bias. Batman, the animated series will always be in that
thing. But what I'm saying is, for me, that's one in one A. Yeah. And they're also in that same
era. Yeah. But there's, for me, the animated, the Batman animated series had some subtle brilliance
that most people don't even know about. Yeah. Like using black paper for a background versus
the normal white and just giving it that darker hue. And so good. To give the fact, Gal Gadot was five
months pregnant during the shooting of Wonder Woman, the movie, not just asleep, but our actual full
length. Okay. So the leading to that that I was getting at was I wonder if they're going to be
able to do more with this Wonder Woman that they may have had to hold back on in the first. I
would just wait and see a trailer for this thing. Drew Van Acker, who is on pretty little liars,
he will be joining the cast of Titans as Aqualad. So we're going to do that. I prefer the way they did
it on Young Justice, because he was awesome. Glenn Matarotso, who you might know, as a Dustin,
is that any plate on on Stranger Things? I can't tell you I still have never seen a moment.
You still haven't caught up on Stranger Things? I still never watched the first season. I'm waiting.
Sean wanted to watch it together, but she's been traveling for God knows how long. I saw a couple
episodes and wasn't able to stick with it. Really? That's so good. He plays Dustin. He is
getting another show on Netflix, which kind of ties back to what we were talking about a few
moments ago. It's going to be a hidden camera show called prank encounters. No. It's going to
get both of those. These things just make me uncomfortable. I never got into punked. I never got
into anything like this. I have hated Ashton Kutcher from the moment that started. I have an
unreasonable dislike. And then took your hatred for Bieber to another level, because didn't he
take over that show? I don't. I never watched it. I hate the existence of it. I think when Kutcher
stepped away, Bieber took it over. See, and like I said, I never made it that far. As soon as I
heard it existed and it kept going, I hated him. I looked that up and verified that. But at the same
time, it's one of those where it's like, I've never been a fan. Like, let me, let me put it this way.
If you're doing innocent pranks among yourselves, I'm on board. I'm all for that. But when you're
starting to record it, advertise it, things like that. And you get into the realm of potentially
hurtful, uh, in the words of Rob gopounce ant. But what about like the one that Betty White did?
I don't care. I never watched that one either. I'll answer you. Uh, it was okay. It was not,
it was okay. There were celebrity guest hosts after Kutcher left it in 2007. And your last host
over with Kingbock and Distorn Power, whoever that is. And Whitney Cummings has been a host of it too.
Yeah. And like, I never liked the one I'm not going to say the full name of with Johnny
Knoxville, the MTV hat. Okay. Where they do it to themselves. I didn't care for that stuff. Yeah.
I mean, I don't like shows like the league. I think that's funny because A, it's scripted and B,
this is horrible people that deserve what they're doing to each other. Yeah. Which I kind of feel,
Jack, uh, I stopped myself. Okay. I kind of feel like that is on the edge of the, they know what
they're, they don't know what necessarily what they're doing, but they deserve this. And I never
really got into it. Chad loved that show. Chad loved everything about that. Hold on. Let me show
you my surprise face. Well, but he didn't, he thought the league and it's, it's always sunny.
It was unlatchable. But I'm like, but you watch that show. It's right. Okay. I like the back
story on that one was the fight. Oh, I'm just going to find out what it's like to be
tasered for a magazine article. Uh, speaking of MTV, if you remember the character of Jody
on Daria, yeah, she's getting her own show. Oh, who have voiced by Tracy Ellis Ross. Interesting.
That's a, that's a long time from the, yeah, that's a man-mouth that I'm like, I'm on board with
this, but man, we're kind of reaching a little bit, aren't we? Yeah. Uh, the tick has failed to
find a new home after Amazon canceled it. So that may be dead in the water. I really love the first
season. I love everything the tick related. Yeah. Especially because Patrick Orton. Well,
but the thing is, is it's Peter Senif, uh, Pete Sarifeno. Oh, yeah. I know. And I, when I first heard
him as playing the tick, I was like, I'm not so sure about this because he's usually a kind of
different kind of character, but he crushes it. In an interesting move, which I think will happen
because of who this person is. Dick Wolf. Mm-hmm. He wants to do a crossover event
with FBI. Okay. And either SVU or Chicago PD, which would be a very interesting thing because
they're on different networks. Yeah, that's going to need some FBI CBS, the other two on NBC,
but he says that's going to happen. Well, he's got enough kids in the game. It's the 800 pound
gorilla when it comes to television. Yeah. So I'd be sure to see what happens here.
Be cool to see them playing each other sandbox a little bit. Yeah. And NBC Universal,
speaking of which, they're building a new studio complex in New Mexico. And outside of Albuquerque,
apparently, they will be investing $500 million over the next 10 years.
Apparently, New Mexico is fertile ground for entertainment for some reason.
Uh, blame breaking bad could be because there's been a lot of places shooting around New Mexico just
because there's that attachment. And maybe this is the start of the moving that everything has to
be in Los Angeles where no one can afford to live. Right. Especially in the age of,
you know, movie stars are saying like, I don't have to live in LA anymore. Well,
think about how much stuff gets made in Georgia now just because it costs efficiency. Not
anymore. Well, but what I'm saying is you got mass exodus going on for Georgia right now.
Correct. North Carolina right now big Vancouver is huge pretty much for anything CW.
You know, these major, these major markets don't have to, you know, I don't have to film in
Chicago. I don't have to film in New York. I don't have to film in LA. But what I'm saying is,
is all of these pictures, TV series or everything that were, quote unquote, located in these
different areas for a long time were basically just in the Atlanta area. Yeah.
There's nothing anymore. Yeah.
All right, TV on DVD and Blu-ray this week. Season one of Swingtown.
I can't remember who airs this, but it's, uh, it's kind of a throwback show.
Season two of Killing Eve, which is getting amazing. I know a lot of people that really enjoy
this on the, on the AMC. Uh, the season two of the Will and Grace Revival.
Available this week and season eight of suits.
Which, let's be honest, I, I'm shocked that that made it that far without the wedding.
I thought it was already off the air. I think that might have been the final season.
Season eight may be the final season. Yeah. Is there, is there a monster that's trying to trip?
It is. It was trying to let you know. Yeah, I said, yeah,
general was giving me the, the hand signals and it was Jackson's in here. Yes. Yes.
He, anything that, that dangles or moves hangs, he's all over it.
Come here, son. And he keeps wanting me to pet him and I can't.
Seriously. Well, the interesting thing is is he didn't actually bet at it.
It just got caught on the tail and I had to catch it.
Still, it's my little hamburger. He says, happy daddy's day, daddy.
And I like him and I'm glad he's here. I just try to let people know because other
ways we get reactions. Well, I'm plus you are, you're, you can't pet him. Right.
It's either. So any shall. Awesome. I wish I could play copyrighted music
because I would you have Gloria right now. Well, you can. You just shouldn't. No, I can't
because then we wouldn't air. Yeah. So this Gloria thing, I,
do you know the origin of this? I do not. So apparently in the western conference finals,
mm-hmm. There was a bunch of people in a bar in St. Louis. And there was this drunk
guy during the game that kept going, play Gloria. Oh, okay. Now Jackson's going to sit in my lap.
Okay. And whenever they would start playing Gloria, the blues would start playing well.
So all it takes is belief. Okay. Now he's now he's full-blown sitting in my lap.
Does he snuggle him with his daddy? I'm gonna be on the podcast son. Huh? I'm gonna mute. Okay.
So they'd play Gloria the actual song that the drunk was calling for and the blues would start winning.
Correct. So it became their anthem. Now Josh Arnold from the Bob and Tom show who is a,
it was from St. Louis. Yes. And I agree with him on this. This should be the end of it.
They should have been for this year. No, totally. Oh, really? Like that should have been a thing for
this year. Don't carry it in the next year. Mm-hmm. Because it was for the playoffs.
Yeah, but you're gonna have people beaten. Oh, no, it's still going to happen. So
game seven in Boston. Mm-hmm. St. Louis dominates this game. Oh, it was actually what was really fun
watching it. It felt a lot closer than the score was. Because if you look at that first period,
St. Louis scores. Everything's back and forth. Boston's really put on a push. Second goal scored by
St. Louis with seven seconds left. Never look back. Yeah, that's what I was. Highest rated NHL game
in the history of Ed Barr. The NHL is gold. So all of Bush Stadium packed for the people and it
rained that night. People stayed. They packed the hockey arena. Mm-hmm. Basically, what they did,
it was 20 bucks ahead. Sit wherever you want. All the money went to charity from what I've heard.
I think all except for functioning. All profit. All proceeds. So somebody actually
recorded and they played this on B&T and it sounded and even Chick McGee who is one of the
biggest cynics on God's green earth said this even gives me chills of the entire crowd at the stadium
singing Gloria along with the song. Fish was in town that night and as soon as the game was
final, they played Gloria live with their concert and fish is going to come up later too.
And you know, and part of it's because I'm anti-Boston sports, but congratulations to St. Louis.
They never won a Stanley Cup finals game ever before this year and you win the Stanley Cup.
And that's how this should be. A team that was tied for last in January. Think about the
general five months ago, worse team in the league. When you find your passion and you put it out
there and you work hard and you play it hard, this is how it should be. I really thought she was
going to say when you find your passion and you make it happen. And I was thinking, nope, that's a
different song. Yeah. But I will disagree slightly because these are passionate men. You don't
make it to the league without being passionate. However, the big change for them was the coaching
change that really knew how to use the guys better. And so now we live in a world where the Stanley
Cups in America, but the NBA championship trophy is in Canada. Everything's upside down. Congrats
to the Toronto Raptors. Dogs and cats living together. Mass hysteria. I was glad to see Toronto
win this thing. Steve, I could honestly say the only reason I really was pulling for the warriors
was because I just want the Drake curse to live. But you know what? Congratulations,
Kawai Leonard, if nothing else. I know I call the NBA garbage, but I have been saying he is the
best player in the NBA for years and a quality human being when he's happy. Aren't we all though?
We heard you say that on the show many times. And we do have one NBA headline that came down
yesterday. Because ransackings in season. Anthony Davis officially going to the Lakers
for a small army. Well, for Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart, three first round draft picks,
including the number four on Thursday. Yep. And Lonzo Ball. And somebody's daddy not happy.
The city of Los Angeles probably could not be happier right now to get rid of the ball family.
It's one of those where it's like allegedly by at least some insiders were saying that they
had to throw in another the third first round draft pick was so that they could get rid of Lonzo
in the deal. And the second first round draft pick was never gonna keep Kuzma. Oh, apparently he lost
on this. Well, Kuzma was was a linchpin in the thing. Right, but that's the the replacement for
Kuzma was a the second first round pick. But he's just sitting here. Just not wanting to move.
Nope. But the idea of Levar Levar Ball getting sent to the swamp is just so happy to me.
Which is sad because I feel for New Orleans sports. There was a certain part of me
that wants Anthony Davis to do an interview and go. I would just wait them for magic to leave.
No, no, no, even I know what's wrong with that comment. Oh, Anthony Davis,
now I can't come to the show. But hey, hey, hey, no bites. Jackson, no bites are daddy.
Hey, jacks, nobody. But it's funny how you have never happens in the vocal.
If somebody bites you in vocal, we have other questions. But it really throws a monkey ranch
into the idea that all these people who are experts who know who everybody is picking now have to pivot
a few days before the draft, which is fun. But I also don't think this is the thing. That's my
thing with this. Wait, I don't think I'm going to need you to clarify that. Let me just put him down
because this is he is to work. Well, jacks is really good at laying down in the exact wrong places
and not in a place that's comfortable for me. So I'm like constantly, you know,
chugging him. I don't think this is the thing that's going to turn it around for the Lakers. Oh,
I agree. Don't. I 100% agree. Now, here's the other aspect. Apparently,
are Kyrie Irving has wanted to play with Anthony Davis for a few years now. So the idea is that
getting Anthony Davis entices Kyrie Irving to come to the Lakers, which gives you a solid
three to start with. But didn't he just sign with Rock Nation? Didn't he get rid of his agent
to sign with Rock Nation? I don't still not seeing the problem. Who runs Rock Nation?
Well, Sean Carter, in name, yeah, who is also the minority owner of?
I don't pay attention to the Brooklyn nets. Yeah, but I'm just saying, but here's the problem.
You can't, he can't do both. That's the problem is is because he's a minority owner, he doesn't
have any say in the management. It's still got his name on it though. It's not his name.
No, with Jay Z. But at the same time, that's, I feel like there's the possibility that he,
they could never really sign somebody to the net without them only being able to go to the net.
Just from they know I'm just saying just from the potential tamper. Oh, absolutely, but still
speaking of Jay Z, let's take that into music headlines. I'm going to bury the first one. I'm
going to go back to it. Charlie XCX has announced her first new album in five years will be released
on September 13th. It's called Charlie. So congratulations to her. Vanessa Huggins
joining the musical version of the notebook. I'm sorry, because this is a thing we need. No.
But I love Vanessa Huggins. I like Vanessa Huggins. I like the notebook. I do not do the two of
them together. Trisha Yearwood will be headlining a tour in the fall. She's been doing a lot of
support work for her husband. But she's going to do her own tour. Come this fall. Still one of
my favorite Garth Brooks jokes. Plenty of Grammys in there ain't his. Speaking of, we talked about
fish earlier. Fish officially has their own serious XM channel now. They officially. I see you're
welcome for that. I didn't even mean to do that. So you emphasized it. I thought you did it on
purpose. So we talked a few weeks ago about this. We skipped POI. We got to come back to POI.
We talked a few weeks ago about this whole BTS K-pop thing that I don't understand.
On their upcoming tour in six markets, they have sold 600,000 tickets. I don't get
sun. Apparently he feels like some of us should be muted. But I don't get it either, but apparently lots
of lots of people do. It's putting money in the economy. Yeah. Well, that's a positive way to look
at it. Well, it's me. I try to find positives. It's very true. And if we lose power or sound anytime
soon, he the studio is officially like he's reenacting Godzilla River in here ever. And all of a sudden,
this is his new playground. In front of the department of I now feel even older,
Beastie boys are gathering up 15 B sides to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the album to the
five burrows. Nice. That album is 15 years old. Yeah. So let's talk about last night for a minute.
Yesterday was a great day. Uh-huh. It slept in. Got up to the laundry. And yesterday was a day I've
been waiting for since Christmas, because my Christmas present from my sister Charlotte this year
was she got us tickets for the group therapy tour, which out of context sounds interesting.
Bear naked ladies and hoodie in the blowfish was last night at the starplex. I don't care what
they're calling it this week. Beautiful night. It was only uncomfortable hot for a little while.
You can just take that piece of that. There's a tape measure. You can take over.
But it started 730. So my my thought process was there's got to be a third band involved in this deal.
There was not really there was no official opening act. This was a double bill period.
So there was literally nothing and then straight into bear naked ladies and then hoodie.
It started on time. There was no delay to the show, which was great. I'd never seen bear naked ladies
live before. I've been big fan of that band since the late 90s. You haven't seen the musically live.
You've seen them in pinball effect live. Yes, was according to our Instagram post this morning.
Yes. Ed Robertson, friend of the show, who actually mentioned the Midlothian pinball museum.
Nice, which is run by the people from TPF, which is where we met him two years ago on a very,
very special episode of the show. Can we just say. Merch people. I would love to participate
in your fine product. I'm not paying $35 for a t-shirt. And the one I liked the hoodie shirt I
liked was $45. Captive audience. Now, if you have what we call a phrase we can't say on this show,
you money. You could get. You okay over there? I'm sorry, I wasn't anticipating that.
You could get a collectible drum head. That was a bass drum head that had the logo on it. Wait,
are we going to play the guessing game on how much we can do that if you'd like. And it's it was
attached to about a two inch thick piece of bass drum. Okay. So as if they had sought it just
for low dead. How much would you pay for this bass drum? Wait, are we saying how much would I pay
or how much would you see this going for? Okay, so is it for both acts or just one act? Just hoodie,
just hoodie. Oh, I don't know, 60 bucks. 60 dollars. Generome. They're asking 150.
Generome is closest without going over. Oh, but she's still a hundred bucks too low.
Yikes.
$250. You are correct, sir. Well, I can do math. You told me the answer. I just had to get there.
$250. He's Jackson's Fascade by the fan. Oh, I thought he heard the ding. No, he might have. I don't know.
I was like, no, this was me. No, no, no, no. But it was still a great show.
A friend of the show Phil and Shannon Marr brought two of the two of the girls. Maddie and Courtney were
with us and it was Charlotte and myself and Brandon and Hannah Jane and I do have a bit of a bone to
pick with Phil. He recorded part of the show. And I don't know. I still am not sure how I feel about
that. I'm willing to get Phil a pass, but the idea of somebody recording the show with their phone.
People do it the whole time. I know, but it bothers me.
Bernick and ladies had a real basic like they didn't even use the video wall.
Really? They pulled up a curtain over the video wall that just said Bernick and ladies on it.
I want to clarify. He said that it said it. Bernick and ladies were on it. Bernick and ladies paid for about an hour.
And it was good. I would have liked them to play longer. It was good, though, because they were,
I mean, because you know, there's not a lot of people know a lot of their material. That's fair.
And about halfway through Ed Robertson was like, I know what you're thinking, Dallas.
Stop playing all the monster hits. We want to hear some of the deep cuts.
They really did a solid day. They played the theme from the Big Bang Theory, which was great.
I'll neither confirm nor deny that I was looking at the set list while you were still at the theater.
Friend of the show Heather Fulgeman asked me to record if they had played stand in line,
but they didn't play it. So I don't know if the set list changed from when she saw them the
previous Saturday in West Palm. So Bernick and ladies finished up and they dropped a curtain
in front of the stage with the newest version of the hoodie logo on it. 30 minutes. It took
them to change over the stage. That place was hacked. Understandably so for who you have.
So who do you took the stage? This is the 25th anniversary of Cracked Review this year,
which I did not know they have released a 25th anniversary edition of the album.
Oh, that has 40 tracks on it. And for those following the show Rob's birthday's coming up.
Please give me my phone. Give me one. 25 dollars on iTunes. It's remastered the entire album
with live tracks with B-sides. So you know, we call Chin and Sister's name is Shannon,
but they have a cousin who when he was little couldn't say it. So he called her Hannah.
So we call her Hannah Jane after Track One on Cracked Review. That's what they started the show with.
It's 52 tracks on iTunes. Okay, I miscalculated. But they started with Hannah Jane
and we all just lost our minds. First one on the album. It's the first track on the album.
Yeah. Now we were wondering if they would just play the entire album. They played nine out of
the 10 tracks. The only track they did not play and I don't count Motherless Child because it's
an interstitial thing. The only track they did not play off of Cracked Review was I'm going home.
It's literally the one I'm looking at, right? It's a great song. But when they did letter
cry because they had, I'm not telling you when I say their video wall was the width of the stage
and probably 30 feet high. Yeah, you, I believe you posted a picture. I sent it to you when they
did letter cry. And did that not look like it was just a piece of art? It looked like a legit art
piece. In general, I'm going to show this to you. This was what the, and I know this is an audio
actually pull it up. Yeah, go ahead and pull it up. What the stage set looks like when they did
letter cry. That's on the video wall. Wow. They pulled up. It looked like they were standing outside
of a waffle house. It looks like a legit waffle house. That's how good the video quality was.
They played two hours. Actually, here's the funny part. You never clarified that it was a video
wall. I thought they literally brought a set out that looked like a waffle house when you
used to do me. That was the video wall. Wow.
Darius did a couple of his songs. They actually brought bare naked ladies out with them and they
did the Joe Cocker version of with a little help from my friends. Oh, I love when they do that
together. And it was, and that's where I took the picture. I just felt the hair in my arm stand.
That's where I took the picture of Ed Robertson wearing the stern pinball t-shirt. That was
I thought Shane McMahon had showed up. No, that's that's a whole thank you, Brandon.
This was one of the best shows I've ever seen. I'm not kidding. Yeah, there's some serious
jealousy on my part when you got to go. From beginning to end, it's going to be tough for me to
go to a concert this complete again in my lifetime. And being there with my friends,
you know, Phil and Shannon saw them before Courtney was born. Yeah. And now they get that they
when she was with them now, it kind of full circle. And the first time they saw him was an MSG.
Oh, wow. And one of the giveaways on their website right now is a trip to see them in August at MSG.
And then they had another contest if you text it in to see them in Nashville at the end of August.
So out my only downside was the merch. Yeah, because I wanted to buy a t-shirt.
Well, the interesting thing on that is there was a number of people. I am like literally just
running through my list. I think there was 30 people on my friends list. Yeah, I could look at
a phone book and a Facebook. And I couldn't keep getting to people because so many people were
on the network. I couldn't get to respond to everything. Oh, they actually played, and I don't
know if you've ever heard this, but they actually there was a Zeppelin tribute album in the 90s called
Incomium. And they did hey, hey, what can I do? Oh, wow. And they played it that night. They also
one of the guys that tours with them and has for years worked with did studio work with REM.
And he played the guitar on losing my religion, which they played last night. And it was phenomenal.
Now normally what they do when they're alive is they'll start playing love the one you're with.
And then go into a medley of things. Yeah, they did it now with old man and me.
So before they get to this woman sitting next to me, she's been there a long, long time. Before
they get to that right to break down, they went into fight the power. Oh, my God.
They dearested fight the power. Then Mark Brian did a verse of Freaks of the industry. Oh,
my God. Then they came out for the encore. You're not making me hate you less for this, by the way.
During the encore, when they close with only want to be with you. Oh, and you know that where the
song stops. Mark Brian starts playing guitar and they go into get down on it. And then they do
all of get down on it. And then there's a pause. And all of a sudden Darius just goes, just goes
back into only want to be with you. And the crowd reaction, I think took him so far off guard.
He started laughing. But it was an amazing show. They rolled out the hits. The only,
there were a couple of songs I wish I'd heard, but they were kind of deep cuts.
I just remembered one of them was I couldn't think of the name of it last night. Only lonely.
I didn't get to hear. I would have liked to have heard that. I would have liked to have heard
she crawls away. But again, these are deep cuts. They played go and tell him which I was surprised
they played. But if I don't care what you have to do, if this tour comes, if you are a fan of either one
of these, even if you're a casual fan of either one of these bands, go. This show was phenomenal
on every level. From tech to performance. Darius had two of the biggest confidence monitors I've
ever seen in my entire life. Because I was looking at them. I was like, those aren't floor monitors.
They look, they're too weirdly shaped to be. And I didn't, and it didn't happen until he came out
for the encore. And they did, they started with him. And Jim Sunfield was on a piano and they did
goodbye, which is probably one of my favorite tracks of their period. And there was one camera shot
from behind Darius. I'm like, that's a confidence monitor. I can see the lyrics. I'm not the only one.
Those things were huge. They had to have been like 40-inch televisions.
Well, it's because he normally wears glasses. But you can put the whole song on one screen too,
which is kind of nice. But this album was this show was nothing short of amazing. So if this
thing comes anywhere near you, go. I really, really dug this show on every level.
All right, so let's back up a little bit to do a little bit of PLI. Actually, we got to do music
and releases. I'm all over the place today. Yes, you are. Music and release is this week
collective soul who will be in our town September 1st with Tonic and Jin Blossoms. Nice.
I want to go to this show. I want to go to that show. Blood is their new album coming out this week.
Harry and the potters. Oh, really? I just, this is one of those. That's really,
that's really I want to hear that name this week. I always have to put names on these things.
I'm sorry. That was last week's episode, not this week's episode. I know, but it's still
sensitive issue. And I believe I called last week's episode $4,000. Harry and the potters
this week were released lumos. Hollywood Vampires has a new album this week. This is Johnny Depp
and Keith Richards. And I believe Alice Cooper is involved in this thing. It's called Rise
Mark Ronson. Mr. Uptown Funk has a brand new album this week called Late Night Feelings.
Originals from Prince and what this is from what I'm told is this is his demo versions
of songs he wrote for other people. Yes. For those of you that don't know, like he wrote Manic Monday.
He wrote under the name Christopher, but that was him. He wrote a million. The rack on
tours is back this week with help us stranger. Willie Nelson ride me back home. And Titus
Andronicus. It's a name for a band in it. And obelisk. Sounds like a metal band actor,
though. Titus. Titus Andronicus was a play. You have Titus O'Neill on the WWE,
but Rumble Sumbulant's live character. She's Kimmy. She's the one. See, and I can totally
see the show where she was in a cult underground and gets. And breakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Yeah, but it's I thought Titus Andronicus was the character's name of the. Oh, I don't know.
I've never watched it. Andronicus is the name. Okay, but I was thinking that was the roommate's name.
And a great name for a band that followed us on Friday night at the Curtain Club.
All right, I'm sorry at the profit bar. We have your dog.
It was a great name for a band. See, but the worst part out to them.
No, no, depending on your inflection, it's either a very sweet name or it's very terrifying.
So great. All right, so let's go back to POI. And POI this week is going to be really interesting
because it was something I was thinking about today. And I don't even know how much of a thing it
is anymore. When I was a kid, one of the things I really looked forward to was after church
getting the Sunday paper. Because the Sunday paper always had the full color comics in it.
It always had the cool sale because I would get make sure you get your get the best buy ad.
Get all the ads. See what's on sale this week. Is it even really a thing anymore? Yep.
If you're over the age of 60, maybe. But I just, I don't, maybe it's just the little bubble world I live in.
But I just don't, it's not a thing for me anymore because I get it all in my email now.
It's the print media dying. But I mean, I'll still go over to my parent's house.
And they still get their hard copy paper there of that age.
And I'll pull the comic. I mean, if it's a Sunday, I'm pulling the color comics.
I'm pulling the target ad, the Walmart ad, the best buy ad. I'm pulling all the ads.
I don't need to be doing any shopping. But I'm still pulling these ads because that's what I've always
done. Yeah, Sean will do it just for coupon. That's it. It is a player in your house because I
know Sean does the couponing thing. But after that, it's meh. I just, I don't know.
I don't own a word anymore. So I don't care about news. I always love going
getting the entertainment section so I could see the, the movies that were coming out that we
go. Yes. You know, that's, that's up back in the day. But now it's, you know,
we all have a magic box in our pocket for that. Yeah, we used to have to pull the paper to see
the listing. We didn't go through the recording. Or we had to check the newspaper because
the recording hadn't been updated. If you, if you lived in Margate, Florida, it was always
updated because if you called MI or UA movies at Margate, we might have had a decent voice.
Thank you for calling movies at market conveniently located at state road seven in Atlantic Boulevard
in Margate. I did the recording in high school every week and people are like, you're the guy.
I'm the guy. One week I tried to do like impressions for each movie and I just read the tape ran
out halfway through. So I had to redo the whole thing. But yeah, no, I did that. And for those
of a younger class, this is pre-Mr. Movie Phone. So this is actually thank you for calling
movie phones. So this guy based it off people like Rob and themselves that actually did
take seriously putting the listing versus I got the people that said and at seven o'clock and
nine o'clock. See, that was the worst thing about those was if you missed your movie, you had to
listen all the way through. Yeah, come back. You have chosen Caddy Shack. I always loved the way he
did that. But like, I don't know. You always pulled the sports section. Now out here, this is weird
to me in the fall. High school football gets its own section in the paper, which is weird to me.
That's because so many people out here peeking high school. Oh geez.
Oh, I don't have to be. I didn't get it. It's education. I know how to spell.
Are you sure? Because I know what education you have because I had to say one part of it.
Are you implying that I can't because of my education? I'm saying that you didn't start with a helping hand.
Okay, but I just you did say it was going to be interesting to do. But I mean, like, I
don't even see like when I drive around my neighborhood or whatever, I don't see a lot of people
with their Sunday paper in their front yard. No, no. Because that was a big thing is you could
subscribe to the daily paper or you could just the Sunday. Yeah. And especially like they would
throw in like the the night before Thanksgiving because then you would look for all the sales
fly because that was another big day too. Oh, and they'd have to move them. And Christmas day because
Christmas day you'd have all the post Christmas sales. And like three, four years ago, I started
having Sunday papers show up and it was an ad. I mean, it was like it had an ad for the Dallas
Morning News because I know it's Metroplex to subscribe. They had so many papers. Now, it didn't have
the the coupons with it because they knew that's what would get you to go and buy it. You could
get a discount to buy one with the coupons. But they were trying trying so hard to get subscribers.
They were giving free papers away for like four months, five months just trying to get the
subscription up in the neighborhood. And then had those tables out in front of all your favorite
stores. Oh, yes. Trying to sell the papers. Subscriptions. Oh, yeah. That was a thing for a long
time. Oh, yeah. They would set up outside the supermarket or just inside the produce section.
Oh, this is that was in the last two years. But now that that's happened since I was a kid.
Like, you'd see the four law back in back in the day when the Fort Lauderdale news in the
Sun Sentinel were two different papers. They merged when I was in high school. And it was just
the Sun Sentinel. And see, I only remember the Sun Sentinel. Right. Because this you were young
when that happened. I'm not afraid to say that because it's true. Well, the other aspect was is
that we also had family friends that worked at the Sun Sentinel. Right. You were always
partial to this partial to that. Yeah. We also had the great quad city news if you remember.
Well, and even being Dallas, we had the Dallas Morning News and the four were star telegrams.
There's the both of those are still around. They're still around. But the end they still
and they would compete because you could live in Dallas and get the Fort Worth paper and you
can live in. Right. You want to do that. You know, we fill out Fort Worth because of the writers,
because people would have writers that they prefer. You think I just took a shot at Dallas. Let's
get started on for worth. Oh, it's just what they did in the play that turns wrong last week.
I don't think it goes wrong. I just, I don't know. I was thinking about it today and I was like,
I just remember a time where my Sunday afternoon was spent just going through the Sunday paper.
Or you always books, movies have the Sunday New York Times Sunday crossword.
Oh, the parade magazine. Oh, my friend. Oh, I loved that. And it was the arts and leisure section.
Always had the entertainment on Sunday. I just, I know I, and I think it's just because we just
do everything on our phone with your computer now. It's just, you know, we have a 24 hour new cycle.
And magazines aren't even what they used to be. Yeah. I went somewhere the other day and had let my
Kindle not, I'm having issues keeping my Kindle card charged. So I didn't have a charge on my
Kindle. So I'm sitting there and I'm like, okay, fine, I'll pick up a magazine. And I'm like, I don't
remember this having so many ads or these so many little just half page article here and there.
You used to have like four and five page articles and now they're little mini quarter page half page.
And I'm like, there's no, it's not fulfilling anymore. I agree. And maybe somebody
figured out a way to make it a comeback is it was just kind of neat back in the day.
Yeah, it's going to take, it's going to take some culture shift for to really change. But there's a
possibility that it can, but I feel like it might wind up, you know, taking the route of the reader's
digest of having to include something that people really want to see. One of the cool things I
haven't in my desk, remember when these two the readers digest condensed books? Yes. Charlotte was at
a plea market and she had found somebody that took those. My mom had a ton of those things.
And they they cut it the entire book into an R and they they paste it on the front of it.
It was a Batman print. Oh, I remember this. It's not my desk work. It's what we need. She has
she has those for her for all three. Yeah, that wasn't worth $4,000 before they cut it. Yeah, no, it wasn't.
That's for you. Yeah. All right. Let's get into MLB talk because it's time to look at the MLB
standings. Rangers got hammered today. Yeah, but three. They've been making up time by beaten like
I can't even give a good acronym for this because I really want to swear, but they were beaten up
on the reds for like the last week. I'm okay with that. In the AL East, the Baltimore Orioles are
22 and a half games back. They could double their wind total and still be a game and a half back.
They are five games behind Toronto. Toronto is 12 back on the red socks. The red socks now
five back on Tampa Bay, but now Yankees have the lead by a half game right now.
By the way, Baltimore's lost five in a row. Yeah, but what's their record?
Who the Yankees? Yes. 43 and 27. Okay.
In the AL Central, the Royals win the Stanley Cup. Do a bunch of major league baseball. Didn't
they just win the World Series three years ago? 23 and 48. They're 24 and a half games back.
Thanks for bringing up when they beat the meds. That's true. Hey, you know, I feel about the meds.
They are three and a half back on the Tigers. The Tigers are eight back on the shy socks.
They're three back on Cleveland. Cleveland now 10 back on Minnesota.
In the AL West. Oh, I get to push the button this week. What?
The Mariners are still terrible. They're 18 and a half back, but they are five and a half back on.
You're making up a time for that one or believe it. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim,
Los Angeles County, California, America, North America, Earth, Milky Way, universe, multiverse.
They are only a game back on Oakland. Everybody except Seattle has lost their last game and Seattle
has won their last game. Oakland is three and a half back on the Rangers. The Rangers now
nine and a half back on Houston, Houston, Houston. Seattle is about to get a lot worse.
Well, it's also not past they all start break. No, no, no, but they're already starting the
fire sale. They had the ale leader in home runs and Edwin and Cardassio and they just
basically traded him for a bag of balls to the Yankees. Because that's what we do anymore.
In the NL West, the San Francisco Giants are 16 games back. They are four and a half back on
San Diego San Diego's two and a half back on the Diamondbacks. Diamondbacks now tied with Colorado,
but they're both 10 games back on the Dodgers. Yeah, I think about the put it in hyper drive.
Seattle Central, the hated Cincinnati Reds are eight games back. They're only seven games below
500 and they're eight games back. And that's and they're 31 and 38. So it's not like this is a
terrible division. No, usually it's tight, but they're tied with Don's Pittsburgh pirates who
were playing very uneven this week. Because I know because they were playing my Marlins in my
Braves. Right. It would be like beat us 17 to three and then we beat you 143 to two. It was
the weirdest. Let's see, they are both five and a half back on St. Louis St. Louis now three
back on the Cubs. The Cubs are now within a half game of middle walk. Okay. And every one of them
has only one one game straight. And in the one division that matters, the ALE and I'm sorry,
the NL East, the Marlins got her so bad. Two and eight in our last 10, by the way.
And that's still two games better than I was expecting 15 and five or 15 and a half back. We're
seven back on the Nattinals. The Nattinals are only a game back on your beloved Mets, sir.
And the Mets are five back on Philly. Wait, what does that mean? That means the Braves are up two and a
half games in the division, baby. And Dallas, Kykel still is yet to pitch a game. He's but no, he's
playing minor league ball right now. Right. But he looks good though. He is expected to make his
first start on Friday. Let's go. And it was so weird when we went to the concert last night.
There was a group of people that were tailgating that were South Carolina fans because that's
where Hoody's from. Oh. And I was wearing my Braves hat if you saw it on social media. And there
was a guy doing the chop at me. And I was like, that's not your hands. Like, oh, he means my hat.
I was like, what does that have to do with South Carolina? But close enough to Georgia, I guess.
All right. Are we ready to play Mark's favorite game show? Yes. And we have the same team.
So it is time to play. What is the run differential for the Baltimore Orioles?
Ladies first. Well, because you usually have to because of how we sit in the studio.
I'm going negative 135 negative 135 Alex. And
hmm. That's higher than I was hoping she would say. I'm going to go minus one run just to leave it open.
You would win if this was what is the run differential for the Detroit Tigers?
Because the Detroit Tigers are at minus 134. Oh, wow. Notice they are not America's favorite game show.
I did not expect them to be that bad. The Baltimore Orioles are 21 and 50 right now.
They are halfway to losing 100 games this year. So based on my original math, the one time I won,
I would have said minus 142. They have a win percentage of 296. Yeah. They are 9 and 28 at home.
They're only three games better on the road. They've lost five in a row. But the idea is they're
better on the road. It's the run differential for the Baltimore Orioles right now is minus 151.
Oh, they're going for the record. It's June. It's mid-June.
You think about that. It would be minus 302 if you extrapolate it to the rest of it.
If you think about that, that's an average of losing two runs a game right now.
Oh, and it's mid-June. No, no, no, no. That's more. That's three runs a game.
71, 151. That's two and a half. Okay. So what I'm working on. You played 71 games.
I was going off of just the losses. Yeah, no, we were playing 71 games.
All right, let's get into music to our movie talk. Box office numbers from our friends at Box
Office Mojo. We jammed a lot of content into an hour and 12 minutes. Yeah. Yep. This is insane.
All right, dropping out of the top 10 this week, Avengers Endgame finally drops out of the top 10
after eight weeks, but it still made three and a half million dollars. Eight weeks,
eight hundred and thirty and a half million dollars did we get there? Oh, man.
Worldwide. No, that's not what I want. You want the all-time? I want worldwide. I
click the wrong thing. You want the steel cage match between Thunder Smurf's and Avengers.
God. It's to to 30, 46 million dollars over or under under. Oh, they're going to
they'll figure something out or do a re-release or something. Oh, no, no, no, because I
sometimes, but I think that's what Thunder Smurf's did to get there. Didn't they do a re-release
in theaters? Oh, they've done multiple re-release. No, we hear what it is. They're going to re-release
right before homecoming or far from home, which releases on my birthday.
And Detective Pikachu drops from nine to 13 this week, $1.3 million, six weeks,
$140.8 million, $150 million dollar budget, but it did really well overseas.
Dropping from six to 10, ma. No, no, no, no. $3.6 million, $3 weeks, $40.4 million,
this was a $5 million dollar budget. Wasn't there a time when those type of movies only
came out in October? God. They make so much money. You'd be stupid not to release. I know, I know,
I'm not. I'm not begrudging them. I'm just saying it used to be safe not to watch the commercials
in October. And otherwise, movie commercials didn't bother you. Late night gets its wide release,
so it has a positive number of theaters it's in jumped almost 2,000 percent this week.
That is home show number 466 goes from 17 to nine make six point, sorry, $5.2 million. It's made
about five and a half million dollars so far. Good. John Wick chapter three drops from seven to
eight six point one million dollars, five weeks, $148.6 million dollars. Well deserved. Godzilla,
King of the Monsters drops from four to seven as it continues to plummet $8.1 million, $3 weeks,
$93.7 million dollars domestic. This was a $170 million dollar budget. Yeah, but it's
crushing. Oh, yeah, 339 million total worldwide. Not doing well here. The 2019 version of Shaft
debuted this week. I'm looking I'm going to see this movie because, you know, I love the genre.
They've used in sixth place $8.3 million dollars. Rocket Man stays in fifth place this week,
another $8.8 million dollars, $3 weeks, $66.1 million dollars on a $40 million budget.
But they've probably got another 30 million before it breaks even, but I'm sure it's killing
worldwide. Yeah, let me take a look at your worldwide numbers on that.
133.1. Oh, that's lower than expected. It's about made the same amount, both domestic and foreign.
Yeah, but usually the foreign so much higher. But it may have just gotten an international release.
That's true. And I still need to go see it. As do I. Dark Phoenix drops from two to four this
week, $9 million dollars, two weeks, $51.8 million dollars. I can. Right now predictions are saying
it will lose $100 million dollars. I'm still trying to figure out how it made that much.
Isn't that just the CGI for her eyes? Yeah, pretty much. I think a lot of this had to have been
morbid curiosity. That's also fair. It's the how bad is this. Let's see. Aladdin stays in the
bronze medal this week, $16.7 million dollars, four weeks, $263.4 million dollars on a $183
million dollar budget. The secret life of pets, two drops from the gold to the silver this week
with $23.8 million dollars, two weeks, $92 million dollars on an $80 million dollar budget.
And debuting in first place, home show 467 men in black,
international, $28.5 million dollars. I'm shocked that it didn't make more. $110 million
dollar budget on this thing. I am shocked. It didn't make more. Maybe it'll pick up some steam.
I mean, it's run tomatoes. It's not doing well. The father's days kind of one of those
weekends when not a whole lot of movie scene happens. I think it's more the fact that everything
competing for the top right now is kid friendly. 24% on rotten tomatoes right now.
I enjoyed it. I really did. The only certified fresh of the five listed
is late night at 80%. Yes. And closest to that would be the dead don't die at 53, shaft at 35
men in black, international at 24. So let's see. We have an interesting addition to the
cast for Bill and Ted Face the music. Last week, we announced that they had accounts to two
daughters. Hip-hop artists kid Cutie joining the cast in an unspecified role. Kid Kudie. Cutie.
I don't know. I've seen it spell that. He was at day and night song.
And go ahead. Before we leave movie, I do want to give a shout out to Kathy Tran,
who fonds PR had out for the MIB preview. She was doing photos and she got a rather
excellent photo of me, I thought, which is on your Instagram right now in general. It is.
It is. It is. I just wanted to send me an email. I just saw it on Instagram. I want to do a
shout out to her for I would like to know where Alex is personally. Alex didn't come over and do
what he was taking care of some man about horses or something when I went and did the photo.
Either that or I was making friends with potential cheap pop guests.
Didn't you should have taken a picture with them?
No, that was later that you met those people. I wanted I wanted the as always angels pose.
That didn't happen. Interesting news though. And when I first read this headline,
I went and the more I thought about this headline, I went, you now have my attention.
Someone wants to play Bane.
Oh, hold on a second. Let's pivot and say for this is the
they have not stubborn. They have not specified what for.
I'm just clarifying, but in current trilogy casting, yes.
Go. The Baptista.
Yep. Yes.
Now, I personally hate when they made Bane the movie or wonder how long.
No, no, when they pivoted him to just the muscle luchador villain.
That would be Batman and Robin.
Yeah, I hated that. There's so much to hate about that film.
I like it better. I love that in the dark night trilogy that they brought him back to the
intelligent, let's call it terrorist because that's the best version of Bane.
But I am totally on board with Baptista doing this because I first showed it was like,
Dave. And then the more I thought about it, I'm like, no, that could work.
Yeah, it's one of those words like you don't really need him to do much different than tracks.
But he wants to do it. He wants to do it.
I get this done because if you're going to have patents and do the Bruce Wayne thing,
which I'm reserving judgment on, but you think about that size difference?
I think my wife made popcorn. But you think about that size difference?
Yeah. And how it all looks so good at works.
It works on almost every level.
Yeah, I just don't want him to do the voice.
That's I don't want.
All right, now give you permission to die.
No, no, no, no, no.
No, he just holds Robert Pattinson over and said, give me what I want.
Give me what I want.
I want that as an outtake.
And then he just looks at the camera. He's like 15 people get what I just did.
He's spitting all over.
Moving you releases in places you get moving you releases this week.
A movie I am not ready for. I'm just going to say it.
Emotionally.
Emotionally, I am not ready for toy story for.
I'm not ready.
Now have they confirmed that this is the end or is this they are neither confirming nor denying?
Okay.
So somebody may die.
They're not saying that.
Really?
I have no attachments to toy story.
I don't care.
You don't count on that subject then.
But have you seen the marketing for child's play which also releases this week?
I'm sorry, you mean the fantastic Mark Hamill in child's play?
I thought he was doing it for the TV series on a broad dwarf story for the TV series.
Correct.
But have you seen the poster marketing for this?
I have not seen the poster.
Where it's basically Chuckie killing all of the toys from toy story.
I heard about it.
I didn't know that that was the actual thing.
You see like Buzz Lightyear's legs and you see Chuckie's hand holding the ray gun.
For the record, that's how great I am at transitions.
Just pulled it out of air and got there.
No.
So that also releases a movie called Swinging Safari with Guy Pierce and Kylie Minogue.
Kylie Minogue, how you doing?
A teenager comes of age in a small Australian town during the 1970s when a 200-ton
blue whale gets washed up on a local beach.
Wait, and the name of this is?
Swinging Safari.
That doesn't sound like a safari.
I'm just saying.
Also this week a movie called Wild Rose with Jesse Buckley, Matt Castello,
and Jane Patterson.
A musician from Glasgow dreams of becoming a Nashville star.
Interesting.
So it's Becky Lynch, country star.
Hmm.
That's not fair.
She's Irish, not Scottish.
Burn your maps with Vera Farmiga and Jacob Tremblay this week.
Interesting.
A family and emotional turmoil is taken by surprise in this quirky adventure
where an eccentric eight-year-old American boy named Wes has an existential epiphany.
He believes that he is in fact a Mongolian goat herder.
Wait, what?
I am reading what the imdib tells me.
Yeah, but that's such a left turn on me.
Uh, also this week a movie I'm very interested in called Anna.
Could you see these trailers?
It's the latest from Luke Basedon.
I thought that that was a series.
No, this is a movie.
Okay.
Howan Mirren's in this was.
Yeah.
Silly and Murphy's in this.
Beneath Anna Polatova's striking beauty lies a secret that will unleash her incredible
strength and skill to become one of the world's most feared government assassins.
It's Luke Basedon doing a movie about assassins.
I'm in.
Yeah.
Yep.
And also this week.
I don't know.
A movie called Nightmare Cinema.
Have you heard of this thing?
I have not.
So five strangers converge at a haunted movie theater owned by someone known as the
projectionist played by Mickey Rork.
Okay.
Mickey Rork's disturbing on his own.
We're going right along.
Once inside the audience members witness a series of screenings that show them their deepest
fears and darker secrets over five tails.
So this is very creep show-esque.
It sounds like tails from the crypt in a different form.
Well, to me it was more creep show because it's multiple stories in one film.
This sounds like something you and I would be out on.
You are correct.
DVD and Blu-Wright New Releases in places you get DVD and Blu-Wright New Releases this week.
Us.
No!
Wonder Park, which was an animated film that came out a couple of months ago that I'm kind of
interested in.
Hotel Mumbai, which I do want to see is available this week.
The Beach Bum, which I am hearing such amazing things about.
Really?
With all right, all right, all right.
I heard everything leading up to it and then it disappeared.
It's on Blu-Wright this week.
And I've seen critics that are putting this in their top 10 of 2019 so far.
Wow.
So also first, which is, which showed last year at Asian Film Festival of Dallas.
Kind of creepy.
Loud, crazy love.
A documentary about Brian Head Welch.
We can say a friend of the show because he did our show last year at the Dallas International Film Festival.
A man who said he wanted to hear my band's work.
Thank you very much.
I have audio evidence.
Criterion Collection has two films this week.
La Humana Tay and La Vida Jesus.
Both this week.
A couple of Tech Corner.
It was E3 Week this week.
Lots of fun.
Cyberpunk 2027, which releases next year.
2077.
2077?
Okay.
Kind of that wrong.
Starring one.
It's a video game.
Starring one, Keanu Reeves.
It was a surprise guest on stage.
Let's just wrap it up.
2019 belongs to Keanu.
Yeah.
It's the summer.
It's Keanu Summer.
Leave this dog along.
Final Fantasy 7 is going to have a remake coming in March of next year.
That was announced this week.
Well, they've been teasing it for a year and a half now.
That's what they said in E3.
Final Fantasy has a strong following.
And Microsoft verifies Project Scarlet is coming holidays for 2020
and it will have Halo Infinite, which I know you're very interested in.
Very much so.
And the sensational Shawnee are big on the Halo.
Yes.
Well, the other ones you're going along with.
Yes, Halo was the first thing that she decided to try and adopt from my world
to bring us closer together.
But the other ones that are coming out
is Borderlands from local software company Gearbox.
We'll be releasing in September.
They have just released that there will be an unexpected DLC dropped next month
for the Borderlands 2 to lead you into Borderlands 3.
And a surprise crossover announcement between Gears of War 5
and Terminator Dark Fate.
Oh, I'm hearing such that trailer has polarized the community, brother.
I haven't seen it yet.
I'm up to watch it because I haven't seen the trailer.
It is what it is.
All right.
It's time to do the list.
We end every show with one.
And Alex has it this week.
Alex scrambled for it this week if we're being honest.
So my default whenever we have one of those where I'm like,
you know what, things I find interesting.
So this was 10 dumb facts.
Almost bad enough to be dad jokes for a father's day.
Oh dear God.
Yeah.
Oh my, you, I'm blaming you for this in advance.
This is all you, Rob.
Number 10.
The first known your mama joke.
Oh, good lord.
Was found on a 3,500 year old Babylonian tablet.
Was it your mama so old she was mummified?
What, no crickets?
No.
Okay.
All right.
Number nine.
Oh, we don't know what it was?
No.
They, oh, I thought they translated it.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
These are just dumb facts that are in the neighborhood.
Number nine.
Heart attacks are 20% more likely to happen on a Monday.
Just a dumb fact.
Because nobody wants to go to work.
That's also fake.
They're calling it with a heart attack.
Number eight in 2017.
People dying taking selfies outnumbered those dying by shark attack
by six times the amount.
Say that again.
Okay.
If we're going to, I'm not one.
I couldn't quite comprehend it.
People taking say selfies.
People who died taking selfies in 2017.
Okay.
The number of people who died taking selfies in 2017
is six times greater than those who died getting attacked by a shark.
Sounds about right.
Yeah.
This one, just a fun one.
I'm throwing it over for a general.
One.
St. Lucia is the only country in the world named after a woman.
Woohoo, we have a country.
It's a small one.
That's okay.
But it's beautiful.
Okay, for now.
All right.
And I lost my number here.
Number six.
The first animals to successfully
to have a successful flight were a sheep, a duck, and a rooster
in a hot air balloon.
With an incredible journey.
It was 1783.
So.
Thank you very much.
We weren't going far.
Number five.
While trying to cure AIDS, the Mayo Clinic made glow in the dark cat.
No!
What?
They were testing on cats.
Made them by a luminescence instead of caring them.
Okay.
Number four.
Van Gogh only sold one painting in his entire lifetime.
Interesting.
Number three.
Horses have one less bone in their body and skeleton than humans.
206 to 205.
What does horses?
Very large animals.
Do you think Van Gogh never sold the paintings because he could never hear anybody bid on him?
He wasn't deaf.
He cut his ear off.
Different.
They had to talk louder because the ear of the ear...
No, they had to talk on the other side.
Fair enough.
Yeah.
Number two.
Kleenex tissues were originally made as filters for gas masks.
And you technically can't call them all Kleenex's.
His Kleenex is a brand name.
Right.
Which is why it was specifically Kleenex tissues, not tissues in general.
Oh, fair enough.
And number one.
This is for just backing up all the dads out there.
The average man gets bored with shopping after 26 minutes.
RAPID ON!
I'm sorry, what?
Did you see something?
Nice to be done, sir.
Well played.
I had short notice.
All right.
Which might as well be a segment written by me.
Let's do the plugs because I got on the bathroom.
Thanks for sharing.
