And man, what a last week and a half it's been.
But my voice is not the only one that you are going to hear for the next few moments.
Joining me across the desk is he tends to do because we are back in the confines, the friendly confines of our studio.
He is my co-host and he is a man that is used to keep in the kind of hours I kept on Friday night.

And a man who's done more than his share of.
I think he's done his share of cardio, my share of cardio and Chad share of cardio in the last week and a half.
You may know him is fondongo but his mom and even don Ford.

I am worn out but I'm sad.
It's coming to an end.
It's quite melancholy.
The purpose of this particular episode is not necessarily to review something.
But basically we are doing our wrap up for the Dallas International Film Festival, the ninth annual Dallas International Film Festival for those of you keeping track at home.
For the second year in a row we were given the dubious honor of doing our show live, getting press credentials for the Dallas International Film Festival.
160 films over 11 days.
We're shown at this deal.
In over 30 countries.
Yep.
Yeah.
It is MMA State International.
They ain't joking.
Movies from around the world.
We first of all we want to thank everybody involved.
Not only the people that are on staff at the death of the diff.
But the volunteers.
Oh without a bow.
So many over 1,400 people gave of themselves and their time to make this thing a successful as it was.
And their efforts should not go unnoticed.
But also friends of the show that were on staff there.
That were so gracious as to come even sit down with us for just a few minutes.
Oh yeah.
And then to do our show.
All the press people windy, Jessica, Julie, James Faust.
Don Stokes, Lee, Pepper.
I mean, just everybody from us do this thing and see some incredible stuff.
A high class organization and a group of quality individuals that we wouldn't have had as much fun or had the success we did without them.
And they're they're pros at this the way they run it.
It looks like they've been doing this for for 50 years.
Well, well machines or yes they are.
So what we want to do in this particular episode is we want to kind of give any highlights.
Or give our reviews technically.
Not real in depth of just what we liked.
And maybe you're maybe we're kind of lukewarm about about the diff chat.
Let's start with you.
Biggest highlight for you, which I think all of our biggest highlights are going to be the same.
Yeah, it's the we we have a moment that we'll live in infamy.
Yeah.
If you haven't checked out the last items exclusive before the episode season five episode 37,
the one right before this, you definitely need to do yourself a solid and go and download that one.
The only people I would say don't listen to this show that show is if you're truly a fan of islands in the stream.
If you're if you're such a huge fan of that song that it really has shaped your life.
Probably skip that one because it will be forever burned differently into your brain.
I think your ears bleed a little.
A little piece of you may die inside and just like last year our live show on on the night of DFS honors always fun.
Don't get me wrong, but it was our post show that that made everything as great as it was.
And really if you think about it, the post show from too to completely different aspects.
As much bonus we had last year in the in the post show apples and oranges.
If you have not given yourself the chance to do the whole DFS honors deal.
Do yourself a solid next year.
Get to see the people that get recognized.
And just see the the looks on their faces and where they get their moment and then they can come hang out with us afterwards in the media lounge.
It's it's an amazing amazing experience.
You talk about the guard coming down on people and it really did and not just because maybe there's a little old home.
But we're not saying we're just saying but it's just getting to see these filmmakers and these producers and these actors.
Just kind of get to exhale after the whole festival on those certain guests exhale for about a half hour.
Yes, that's probably one of the rarest interviews.
If you are a fan of the Lego movie.
Getting those guys to sit down with us.
It was just kind of like you know what this is you guys just take the show because.
And I was totally okay with it.
That was the best part.
It didn't bother me even a little bit because they were having so much fun.
But film wise for me highlights.
My favorite and I saw five or six different films are in the festival.
And a couple of these will we could talk on real quick.
We sought together.
Correct.
Give your big one there for me.
It was that kid begins and we talked a little bit about this on the show Friday night.
But you know, I can't put my bias to this side.
I am a Batman fanatic.
And getting to see parts of the bat kid experience that I wouldn't have been able to see otherwise.
A beautifully shot film when it comes out theatricality at the end of June.
I hope everybody goes and sees it.
That was probably my favorite hour and a half that I spent in a theater during the film festival.
Chad Raiders Raiders comes close to second.
Yeah, that's when we all saw that was Raiders Raiders actually made my throat lock up.
But I didn't think it was going to for that kid.
I was expecting but Raiders I wasn't expecting.
For those of you that don't know Raiders.
The story of the greatest fan film ever made.
It's about three kids when they were teenagers in the 80s.
Who wouldn't saw Raiders the lost dark 1981.
And every summer for seven years they tried.
They worked in a shot by shot remake of Raiders of the lost dark.
But they shot on video.
And they shot all but one scene, which was the the fight scene on the plane.
The flying wing with the German mechanic.
Then everything stopped and somehow the video surfaced.
Got started getting passed around as some fairly big names.
And so they decided to go back and re-film the one scene they didn't get done.
And seeing the the history and the story behind it.
And getting to hang out with the director is not only in a Q&A but they sat in with us.
So it was really I enjoyed that as well.
Done.
Marcus our friend of the show Marcus.
He has a copy of that he said.
Does he really?
He said it had a hard drive somewhere.
Yeah, we're going to have to borrow that from him.
I like that one too.
My big standout one which I've said many times is the Thunderbrook.
The heavens which tore me apart.
Which was I still contend the most covered film by us during the festival.
And they won the audience award.
Yes it did.
They won the jury award.
The jury award.

Did you ever look at the website to see if the award winners are up?
I did.
And it's not.
But I have a check today.
Check and see.
Well we're talking.
See if you can find that out.

Because that one will rip you inside.
And the bond they have was they're able to get this film was just incredible.
That they'll go through anything just to stay together.
That one.
Especially by the end just to rip me apart.
It was got it perfect.
So the winners are up.
Who won the audience prize?
2015 audience awards.
Best short film was Melville.
Best documentary feature.
That kid begins to wish her to around the world.
Beautiful.
Best narrative feature.
Thunderbrook the heavens.
So they won the audience in the jury.
Narrative feature.
Grand jury prize was Radiator.
The documentary feature Grand jury prize was Barge.
Texas Grand jury prize was Sacrifice.
And a student's short grand jury prize was cast.
And India's short grand jury prize was the chicken.
Animated short grand jury prize was World of Tomorrow.
And the Silver Heart Award was Spring.
But we also had a chance to.
Yes.
If we let it through the director of that as well.
Just the way they organize this thing.
You know, you really get a lot of opportunities to see the films you want to see.
In the good documentary.
I like which we you me Rob.
Saw different times was the Lone Star Holy War.
Very well.
We had the director on.
Yeah, we had.
And I don't know if you were there for that interview.
I was going around around.
You know me.
Notice the name of the production company was Texas 28.
Okay.
The reason that they called it that is they have actually undertaken a mission to do
Documentary.
It's only 28 best Texas sports stories in history.
Oh, really.
And also Texas was the 28th state admitted to the Union.
Oh, okay.
So that's where they got the name from.
I told him my only critique of that as I wanted it to be longer.
And he had singleton as a production partner on that.

Jonathan Singleton.
Oh, I thought it was.
I just said.
Yeah.
You think John Singleton on the right card.
On the on the credit.
It said Jonathan Singleton.
Oh, I don't know.
That's the thing.
I don't think it's the same guy.
Because I think they probably would have said that during the interview.
But the centerpiece feature, which I got ahead and I got a sit next to
the team Faust on this, which was kind of just out of the fluke.
It's a great team.
Yeah.
He's going to do you want me to know.
That's next to me.
It's fine.
I'm like, okay.
Because I didn't even know that.
That was his seat that was saved.
It was me and Earl and the dying girl, which he loved.
He saw to another film festival.
Make sure God here.
And that thing will make you laugh.
And it will make you cry.
It was filmed in the burger.
It's like I've been there.
I've been there.
But that.
The burger.
We got the burger.
Pittsburgh.
But that one was also a run for the month.
A run for the money on a motion world.
Just rip you up inside.
Like Thunderbook that happens.
They're both in that same level.
If it doesn't affect you, you're communist is what I said.
On that one.
Another highlight.
Right on yellow.
Kill a fella.
So that was when the first ones I saw.
You did see that as well.
Well, it saw the opening night gal.
You know, I'll see you in my dreams with a great
Blife dinner.
But that red and yellow.
Kill a fellow.
That is like I said, a gritty Western mix of different styles.
It's about four.
Outlaws, basically.
Game of Outlaws who are going to whoever map trying to find some very treasure
Basically.
And on the way.
They do some bad things.
Of course.
Because they're disabled outlaws.
And some of them just start mysteriously dying.
And you don't know why.
You know.
And it's like, this is a curse or something like that.
But if you like good hardcore historically.
Accurate Westerns.
You know what I mean?
The Western.
Yeah.
You would really like that one.
So I also got to check out.
Don't look in the basement.
Two.
Yeah.
That's when I did the whole.
The whole gamut.
I think I saw four on that Friday there.
I mean, that just.
Yeah.
That was the late show.
Yeah.
Because.
You know, I saw the two from the director of Raiders.
You know that.
And I thought it would work to heavens.
And then we met the guy.
And I said to stick, you know, do the don't can based on part two.
That one was different.
It wasn't the finished product.
Because I saw the director Friday night at the awards and goes, what you saw is a different kind of cut them what I really wanted.
Really.
But the second showing that they showed the next week was the one he really wanted.
Because it's always a work in progress on some of these things.
And one of the things we talked to him about as well was, you know, he's the son of the director of the original.
Why I do not know that.
Yes.
Okay.
His father directed the original.
So my question to him was, you know, will we be able to get maybe a DVD with your commentary of the
original.
He said it's already in the works.
I did not know.
Yes.
Great guy.
Very quality.
And also interview one of the producers on the Saturday show the week before.
And just you love it when you get films during these festivals that are Texas films.
And this film, this film was done in the state of Texas.
And a lot of people don't understand that the Texas film industry has been booming for years.
You have a lot of great directors, a lot of great actors from the state.
And to see Texas get put on the map.
Like, of course, you know, of course we are biased by that.
But to see it get put on the map like it does and see some of the films that we've seen at these festivals go places.
You know, last year we talked about one of the films that's actually gotten released on DVD this past week, which was kind of neat.
But to see these guys talk about how they've gotten distribution from screening at this festival or at South by Southwest in Austin.
It's just, it's a testament to how great and strong the filmmakers in Texas are.
And you look at this festival here in what we had on the show in one night.
We've had beginners who are in Denton, Texas all the way to royalty when it comes to directors.
You get the whole array of, we get to talk about some of the classic films that were shown during this breathless,
which a great film from the 80s had a great showing.
And of course the son of that director or the son of that director was there.
And now so they're going to have an award based in his father's honor starting next year, which is going to be awesome.
You had the blues brothers.
John Land is accepting an award there.
And I did to see that last night.
And she did.
There was, they asked before this thing started.
How many people have not seen it?
And probably about six people raised there.
Lots good news.
Yeah.
Because it isn't in Texas theater.
You know, it has historic Texas theater.
For those of you that don't know what the Texas theater is.
It is actually the theater where Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested after he allegedly shot Kennedy.
But I learned a lot from the Q&A after the fact, the thing which James Brown,
that was one of the couple things that was actually live music.
And they originally wanted a little Richard for that part.
Really.
Yeah.
And then that scene where the pentogos find down down down.
They had to go outside the city of Chicago and prove to the city.
And all that that they could drop it in the place and be safe for the city.
They had to do it twice before they actually did the takes.
You know, for safety reasons.
But the big thing where I learned after the fact is.
I was going to, I always wanted to know this.
And give me a minute or two on this because this is why I'm just talking about the whole thing.
Is how many cars they went through?
Oh yeah.
And they said total they had about seven of the, you know, the Blues Brothers cars.
With all the cops cars made about 50 as all they went through because they had a body shop.
And these things were, you know, hard steel whenever they hit a car.
They'd just take it back to the body shop.
Fixed it back up and he said again over and over.
So they only went through about 50 cars total.
They stayed and done in that.
They said like, some of these cars back then were built so tough.
The animal house car.
There was three of those.
They tried taking sludge hammers and went to a bunch.
So they had to take it like a fork left into a boom.
You know, to get that thing.
But he said when he did the Blues Brothers 2000.
And this is land of saying the musical is great, but the movie sucked.
He goes, they didn't do that again.
They had one take for the big, the big scene.
Um, where all this cars crash.
Nowadays with stuntmen.
They use cars that won't use over and over again.
They haven't crushed because it takes all the brunt of the crash instead of stuntmen.
Right.
You know, so they went through tons of cars and that.
But this is only about 50 cars.
But it was very important here in the land to tell stories about the Blues Brothers and stuff.
I've heard him tell the story about the scene that I read the Franklin's in.
And how many, how many takes they had to do because singers like to sing things different every time they do it.
And how he had to work with her and multiple takes just so that he could sing everything up.
Which I thought was interesting.
Yeah.
Shack of cons in the in the crowd in the church.
And then also the at the jail scene.
Guy who stands up is Joe Walsh from the Eagles on the table.
Yeah.
So he was he got what's the start he wanted.
But he basically wanted little Richard but got James Brown.
I don't think that turned up.
Yeah.
Okay.
There.
Also raging bull was shown during the festival as well as the hustler.
One of the stars was there for that pay we's big adventure.
Pee we's big adventure was shown at Clyde Warren Park for free.
I mean, that's this festival is so diverse and has literally has something for everybody.
If you can't find something that interests you in this film, you may run it would just do a self inventory.
And one we have to talk about.
I'll see you in my dreams was what opened the festival.
Which I'll get to see on that.
And the beautiful majestic theater historic.
Mm-hmm.
And I'll try to see that.
And of course, she got the word though that night.
So.
Great.
Blife dinner.
Exactly.
We had so much fun at this thing.
I mean, I can only imagine when it's like for the people that were there every day.
And we were there probably every other day.
Doing something.
Yeah.
I can imagine like these people are going to be like I'm going to sleep for like nine days.
After this.
And then, and then we found out last night or night before last.
They're already making plans for next year because next year is the 10th anniversary.
So next year is the 10th annual.
So for 10, you got to bring it.
Oh, yeah, because that's a milestone.
I'm just, I'm just curious as to how James Fals is going to top himself doing firework at the karaoke show.
You know what?
I mean, that night.
I was always special thanks to friend of the show Devon Pico again hosted an amazing karaoke show.
So that's up there.
Watch your ears.
You know.
And we got to hear all kinds of different music.
Oh, yeah.
Everything from rock to hip hop to soul to blues to country.
And a great diverse crowd there.
Everybody was having fun.
There was live art going on behind us.
A beautiful view out the window at the media.
And was raining and thundering.
It's a sandwich so cool.
And the rain held off long enough for them to get the red carpet done, which is even better.
Yeah.
You know, there's just, to me, there's no low lights of this thing.
Yeah.
There was a brand new documentary about Dirk Navitsky that they premiered.
Dirk was there.
Cuban was there.
Don Nelson was there.
A great red carpet experiences for the people that got to do that.
The diff really does bring the stars out.
We didn't get to do a red carpet this year.
So we didn't have time.
But last year we didn't have a blast and made some great friends of the show.
Made some great friends of the show this year.
And some of the people that just simply sat down with us.
That's exactly.
You know, Tanner Beard.
Oh yeah.
Great guy.
Really enjoyed talking to him.
Even the people that maybe just.
They didn't really have a lot to promote.
Still sat down with us and gave great interviews.
And we like we're so appreciative of them coming on and taking the time.
Absolutely.
But in the end, they act like we're doing them the favor.
They're doing us the favor.
Brother, do you want to?
Yeah.
So we met the guy that was almost the Haitian on heroes.
That still freaks me.
Yeah.
It came down to him and the guy that got the role of the reason he didn't get the role was because he didn't have a experience.
You know, getting and hearing some of the stories that these people told about how their movies were made and what got put.
Like so many of these movies were like, yeah, we shot this in like two weeks.
And it just floored me because it's like you got all that footage in half a month.
These weren't like three and six months shoots.
A lot of these were what three weeks or less Chad that we talked about.
Yeah.
See, like the max period was like 22 days to shoot a movie.
Yeah.
And my job is most of the empire if they haven't figured it out is.
Just keep it flowing.
And you did.
Yeah.
And great job.
And when I tell these people to do this is come on.
Come on on the show.
We're here for you.
Promote this thing.
Whatever you want to say shameless self-plugs.
We're totally in favor for a hundred percent.
We just like to have you on and talk about it.
And I really ever get a no.
You know, that is so.
And that, but that's also a testament to your.
I get it done, sir.

The fact that they, they had other stuff they could have been doing.
That they sat with us as long as they did.
And really, they made us feel like we were important.
And I really, truly, I think there are some people who just want to get like an autograph
or something from her to get it back, because we're on the show.
But I mean, but like I said, I'm surprised about how accepting people are on coming
on to this thing.
I really, really ever get to know.
And it's such about them.
That's the thing, which I tell this is about you promote.
This is about you guys, you know.
And I've gotten a lot of messages over the last few days from the empire.
Saying how much they enjoyed listening to the shows.
And, you know, I had a good friend of mine last night who sent me a PM and said he
thinks that our, that episode, season five episode 37 was the best episode we've ever done.
And that is, I will not argue with that.
Yeah.
That's what the bar.
And you got it.
I mean, we've done some really great shows over the years.
And when I say great shows, I mean, like shows that I hit stop on the record
and felt good.
Like I felt like you know what that was a solid show.
When I hit stop on the record button Friday night slash Saturday morning,
uh, I couldn't stop smiling.
It might cheeks hurt from the laughter and the happiness and the joy.
And that's what the Dallas International film.
It wasn't for the people.
They're like James and, you know, Chesico Wendy and Julie who didn't have to give us
press credentials.
Nope.
They did not know.
Yeah.
To let us do this again in that trust and, you know, like James says, we want you back next year
and we'll gladly do it for when you're at the press.
Galla, the night before the festival opened.
So that's when we all got our credentials and every day and the CEO of the festival
makes it a point to come to every person at that reception and welcome them back.
And not just, hey, I'm okay.
I'm moving on.
Sat there and talk to us for a few minutes.
If there's anything you need, let me know that is a testament to the family feeling
that you get, whether it's your first time or whether you've been it all nine.
You get treated exactly the same and to have that kind of respect.
It's like I said on our on the Saturday show episode five, uh, 35.
We're just a couple of shrubs that are podcasting.
You know, and to be treated with the respect and honor that they treat us with is far beyond anything they ever
have to do.
And I am so thankful and grateful for the opportunities they give us.
And to be the first guy to ever do live podcasting from the Dallas International Film Festival,
that makes me happy too.
That's kind of like planning a flag.
And you know, it's going to do nothing but grow from here because it's another thing we love about the Dallas International Film Festival
is they, it's based on opportunity.
Yeah, I don't consider that statement.
Bracket does show.
That's like making a statement like this, this is possible.
This can be done.
Yeah.
And, you know, we're not the only ones that can do it by any stretch of the image.
I guarantee it.
There's going to be one person down the road who we may have interviewed or will interview
who five years now, five years from now or ten years from now is going to be accepting the answer.
Well, think about your Oscar winner for documentary long form this year.
Yeah.
What was it?
Long form.
Yeah.
My mind still.
Citizen four.
Okay.
Which showed last year at the Dallas International Film Festival.
Yeah.
Now, somebody thinks that we may have interviewed them.
I don't know that we did.
Okay.
But they were there.
Yeah.
So to say that's far-fetched is not possible.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It is very, very possible because we met so many great filmmakers that made so many great films.
That's you're looking at future Oscar winners.
Yeah.
You're looking at your golden globe winners.
You're looking at future Emmy winners.
That's not a stretch of the imagination.
Not at all.
Not at all.
And if I had to make a bet that girl Alex from Thunderbroke the heavens.
Don't get 10 years from now.
That kid's got a bright future ahead of him.
Oh, my mind.
I found out that she was actually Russian.
But he was born at Russia.
Yeah.
What?
Yeah.
Thunderbeard told us about that and that she had a Star Wars connection.
Which made you happy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That she almost forgotten about it.
But you forgot that.
It's so.
Like I just I can't get over how great of a time the last week and a half has been.
And I'm ready for next year.
Me too.
Not tomorrow.
Because I'm still resting.
Okay.
