adolescent lives that didn't include MTV in as part of the discussion
And we've also often discussed on the show how

I don't even bother looking at MTV much less. You know, I can't breathe past it quick enough
But in it I didn't change the name of it. I do too. I didn't because this got nothing to do with it
But in it's heyday I can mean we can we you know admit that the 80s and 90s was the
80 a day of the 81 baby right
So I would kind of like to discuss the two decades that we were fondest of
That we have the fondest baby, huh decade and a half well. I mean you know like you just said it started in 81 right
And then it kind of started to spiral in the late 90s. So let's discuss
The MTV programming of the 80s versus the MTV programming of the 90s. Well, but when you talk about
programming
MTV really didn't have
Programming per se until the late 80s. True
Because that the late 80s is when you got headbangers ball and you've got your MTV wraps and you got club MTV
Before that it was just
Videos all the time and ain't nothing wrong with that
But I think for programming
I would start about 89
I go back to 85 okay
These are the these are the the primary examples that I did I picked up on for for the 80s
Club MTV started 85 believe I was a fan. I was a fan
120 minutes started 86 wasn't a huge fan of that show because
They probably really wasn't your genre music
It was but I could watch that on normal MTV like and it came on like really late at night on like Friday nights
And I was just or maybe it was Sunday nights. I can remember when it aired but
It was just like out of my normal routine
TV watching but it had its following. I mean, oh, yeah, absolutely. I mean, it was around MTV too. Actually revived it for a while

Which was the precursor to CRL current started 86

Which was on Saturday nights?

Because I watched it every day and MTV unplugged began in 89
Unplugged to me is one of the most revolutionary television shows of the last 50 years
Because what I love about unplugged is it showed you the musicianship of your favorite art
Because they had no processing even though

It was all acoustic for the most part like everyone saw you had somebody that had an electric guitar
Which didn't make any sense

And the only still running show on this list

Because to me this is where the problem really started the real world definitely started the reality TV quote on quote revolution
And I watched probably the first three or four seasons of real diet. It was kind of fascinating for a while and you know if you're there's another one

It was a game show that was hosted by summer sanders and
Remember of Christian band Dakota motor company Peter King
It was a game show that took place on the beach and on a lake
So they were like different events that teams would go through and there was an obstacle course at the end
So this is kind of like the gauntlet that they're doing now the no cuz the gauntlet is real world versus
Right this is just regular contested
But I'm just saying the the format of the contest is based so weird. I was just talking about somebody else about this the other day
The announcer on that show who was the wacky guy
And I'm up here in the tower guys and things are crazy out there was a then unknown Kevin James

Basically showing what was given to them and they said you know what we can start blazing a trail

Agreed everything that you do is just the derivative of the exact same crud and if you want to watch music videos
You either have to watch it like early in the morning same thing with VH1 or you go to palladium
But even access TV does some music video shows

It's real hit or miss I just I just understand how they can even have a video musical award show anymore because
You know yeah, yeah, I don't get the VMAs like
Is it all you think that's they shouldn't YouTube sponsor that or or
Was it Vivo Vimeo no Vimeo's like the like short films and something it's a Vivo yeah
VBO yeah, and they've got their own app now. Yeah, they I know they have their own
Their own a channel on YouTube. Oh, they've had that forever, but they just recently unveiled an app just for their their videos
But just just looking at these examples of of seeing
Where it started and then where it headed and then now it's where it's at
It's painful just
It seems like we just can't only keep coming back to the same conversation of just how much MTV sucks now
And and you look at how when they started going into their own original programming
It's at least held on to what the channel was about right? I mean they they split the time
Like I get that like okay, maybe you want to show the real world in prime time. I get that
But one of my things when I would come home from school every day
was get home
MTV wraps would come on I
Believe that that and club MTV were back to back
And then you could still watch the countdown show on Fridays because they would do top 20 on on Fridays
And I'm sure you kind of lived for spring break MTV spring break absolutely because there was some we would again
We were just talking about this the other day
I remember in the in the mid 90s
They were doing MTV spring break and the Gavin Rossdale lead band bush
I'm gonna put it out there so you can laugh now
They played at Daytona Beach and it started to rain and the whole band let this stage except Gavin Ross
That will who sat out there with an electric guitar and just played glycery and it was amazing wow
And I don't understand
Russ says that pallidia is now MTV live
Really changed names. How did I miss that?
Because I was pallidia heavy there for about six months when I actually could get my DVR under control
And I would record all kinds of stuff out there because they play some really cool concerts
And they actually play a lot of the the more current unplugs. I wish they play some of the classic stuff
but

To me it's just incredibly frustrating. It is frustrating, but then again
We're also we are men of a certain age
You know, Russ is talking about MTV should do a channel called MTV classic like VH1 did I like VH1 classic
But even VH1 classic started to get kind of nice it really is like a case you haven't watched
The first 16 airings of that metal show here it is again
But I remember MTV classic was doing
Pop a video for a while and I love to do some pop a video. Yeah, you were probably the biggest fan of that show that I knew
But yeah, I mean I agree with the Russ to say it
MTV has a jaw rule jaw rule reality show that shows you how bad it is because he just turned 40 the other day
I don't know and I think it's maybe just because it's old man Rob popping up and telling these kids to get off my lawn
But I just
I think there's a place
I don't know that it's something that you can make a flagship station anymore because of the internet
But there is a place for a music video channel especially in high definition
Because it's not like artists aren't making videos
They're making them and
You know, do you still have
People of our generation that would still like to go back and watch this stuff every now and if you don't believe there's a market for it
80s on eight serious xm is hosted by all the original VJs
They're still getting work kids. Yep
MTV just needs to make an app that's like five dollars a year. Oh, it's all of their content
I do it and Russ Russ says the name change happened on February 1 so it hasn't been that so it just happened it just happened

They're at Fair Park who do an amazing job that we've seen some incredible shows there
But they do something beyond that
So circle your calendar for April the 14th
It is a Thursday night which is a little odd for us
But we are going to do a live remote broadcast
At music college fair park which I'm not sure has ever been done
I'm claiming it you think we're playing the flag I think we're playing the flag here
Where we will be broadcasting live for the better part of four or five hours
From the high school musical awards this is something Dallas summer musicals puts on every year
Where they they go they literally have a group of judges that hit every high school musical production in North Texas
If you go back and you listen to a show that we did back when was that September
Yeah, on North Texas giving day in September listen to the North Texas giving day show
We did live from the house of blues in Dallas had a great time at some great people those people had so much fun
They want us to come back
So next month April the 14th
It's gonna be it's also gonna be something not only that we've never done before there
But we're gonna be doing this in a way we've never done it before
Where before the show will be doing a pre-show live just off the red carpet inside of
Music college fair park
Then we're also gonna be broadcasting during the show
We're gonna be backstage interviewing the winners
This is gonna be awesome. Yeah, we better get some cardio in between now
Tell you something sir. I have spoken with some friends of ours Tracy Jordan and our friend Francisco over there at Dallas
Summer musicals just had a conference call with them this past week. They're extremely excited
We're really excited and not only that
You're gonna be able to listen live on you stream just like you listen to our normal show
But Dallas summer musicals is going to be broadcasting the show through their website from our you stream feed as well
That is so cool. So we're gonna have you covered every angle
From from the from the high school musical awards
This is gonna be awesome. Yeah, I'm I'm as ecstatic as I've been for anything
We are so thankful for our partners in business and Dallas summer musicals
Is no exception to that they have been they are so good to us. We've been working with them now
For almost three years
Got it has been now coming up in June and
They have let us they've given us so much access to stuff that I don't know that we can ever repay it
But stay tuned stay with us because coming up very soon. We're gonna have a lot more information on this
I'm so excited about this
Because not only that, but there's that ticks off something else to that we're not gonna talk about yet
But listen in the coming weeks April is going to be a very very busy month for the clubhouse podcast and I just want to say
The only reason these things happen is because of the empire
Because the empire is so good to us. They support us. We have this grass roots movement thing going on

But my prostate was removed the surgery was successful

But I have to go to regular checkups for the next three months to be clear
So we want to say congratulations to to Brett Hart with his successful surgery
