it is 324 on the east coast. It is 1224 on the west coast. We're actually going to start a little
bit earlier than we had anticipated because stuff works. And we want stuff to work nicely.
It is Palm Sunday. We've already ruined our surprise. So we'll just go take it from there.
This is this is going swimmingly. And there's Don again. You made a joke. I laugh.
It is Palm Sunday, April the 5th in the year of our Lord 2020. Season 10, episode 25 of the Clubhouse
Podcast is on the air literally this time. We are streaming live on the vocal now website and
this will be on our YouTube channel later today as well. 521 times this face and or this
voice has welcomed you to the Clubhouse Podcast. You're one stop shop for all things pop culture.
We're going to focus on one aspect of pop culture today more than anything else welcome.
My name is Rob. I am the executive producer of the Clubhouse podcast and wrestling fans.
We hope you enjoyed the first half of WrestleMania last night. We'll be enjoying the second half
tonight. But that's for the other show to talk about. We may do a midweek update to talk about
that as well. As you've seen, I am not by myself. There are four people on this show today. And we
start as I'm going straight across the street with my co-host who was looking for buried treasure
in his pirate shirt yesterday. He is Alex. Hey brother. You know, I still maintain that that was
completely by accident. But then I realized I have at least two copies of that shirt because I love
that the Blackbeard flag designs so much. Well, one of my favorite tweets from last night was from
one of my favorite Twitter feeds, WWE Creative Humor, who made a point to let everybody know that
it was 90 minutes into the pay-per-view before Michael Cole made a smooth sailing reference
on a pirate theme paper. Gimmick infringement could be. Well, I'm not a former Gimmick infringement.
And speaking of Gimmick infringement, the guy you just saw on camera is who we're talking about
in that particular category. He is the official fact checker of sooner or gator productions.
And he is not Pittsburgh adored today. You may know him as Iggs Boonoo, but his mom and him
him Don Ford. I'm going to call him Don Ford. Hey, man. I do get the Premier League shirt on though.
Oh, that's what's on the shirt. Okay, but the question is, is that spot on him from Premier League
as well? Well, you got Florida too though. So that's what I was about to say. I've actually eaten
from any brothers more recently than Don Hance. I'm just kidding. I hate you for that. And I had
to end with the Garo Knotz, which if you follow me on Instagram, yes, that robber, and that picture
is there. Go back to mid-January. We also have a very special guest filling in for the lady
of the house today. She is one of our favorite humans and she is going to be instrumental in one
of the topics we're going to talk about today. She is also the vice president of the board of directors
and social media maven for who needs sleep. She is Rachel Wimberly. How are you, my friend?
I'm great. How are you all? It's good to see faces and have some kind of human interaction.
I live alone. So this is this is nice to have. I was kind of surprised you weren't in the damsel
den today. You know, it's because I didn't I don't have a table tap like this little like
table thing to put my laptop on and the damsel den it was just going to be I maybe we'll do a tour
of the damsel den before the show's over. I can walk around. All right. So before we get wrong,
Don, I need you to do one thing. What's that? I need you to take your phone and turn it this way.
I want to try something today. There we go. Now you're full screen, brother. Okay.
I'm just wondering that we count as humans to Rachel. Well, I wouldn't go that far.
Before we get moving today, I would like to show something to everybody. As you guys know,
one of the things that we do on this show and Rachel being here is a little fortuitous as well
is we review stage productions. And one of our favorite vendors is the Dallas AT&T
Performing Arts Center, the Dallas Theater Center. And as you know, in this time of self-isolation
and people just quarantining themselves, it has really hurt the live theater industry.
And so our friends at the Dallas Theater Center and Don, if you'll take notes in here,
make sure you send this to our friends over there at AT&T Performing Arts Center.
They have released a video from their artistic director, Kevin Moriarty, about something that
they're doing called the Bounce Back Fund. And what I'd like to do is I like to share this video
with you now. We tested this. It should work. And it's a message from him.
And hopefully everybody mute your microphones please so that it doesn't, hopefully we should get
the audio. If you guys don't get the audio on this, let me know. And here we go.
I'm Kevin Moriarty. I'm recording this low-tech video message from my social isolation at home.
On behalf of all of us at Dallas Theater Center, I want you to know that our hearts and prayers
are with each of you at this unprecedented time. Now more than ever, our city needs the arts
to provide hope and inspiration from this community that we love. And those of us who create
nationally recognized theater right here in Dallas, we need your support as we navigate this
new normal. The recent cancellation of live performances due to the coronavirus is creating very
real financial consequences for our theater. Across the country, theaters are laying off artists
and staff and halting plans for future productions, but not Dallas Theater Center. Even though right now
we're closed to the public, we've made a commitment to continue to pay our staff who are now working
at home as we navigate these days under our new shelter in place normal. Our team is hard at work
to make DTC accessible online and via social media in ways that are engaging, joyful,
and stimulating for our larger community. We're already in the final week of our virtual run of our
production of American Mariachi, which has been selling tickets to enthusiastic audiences who
enjoyed the film of the live production in their own homes. Soon we're going to be announcing
details in about an exciting new virtual play that we're creating. It'll be performed live online
featuring members of our own brilliantly resident acting company. And we're continuing to plan
for our upcoming season that will engage and inspire our community from the sound of music and
tiny beautiful things in the high school of life. There's something for everyone. As we navigate
these uncharted waters that we find ourselves in, we're drawing strength from our belief. When this
crisis is over, Dallas will hunger for human connection. And so our pledge to you is to continue
to do what we've done for 61 years to serve as a magnet for our community, bringing people back
together to heal, engage, and celebrate. To fulfill this vow, we need your help. That's why we've
launched a bounce back fund. Donations to this emergency fund will allow us to continue to pay
our administrative artistic and production staff during the pandemic and help us get back on
stage as soon as our city reopens. Given these extraordinary circumstances, we invite you to
help us secure the future of our institution in these most challenging times. Your support will
be so valuable as we prepare to come out of the crisis whole and healthy. Please know, we're thinking
of you in this time of social isolation and that with your support, we will be there for you
can all come together again. Thank you. Stay safe.
So in case you missed that as Dallas Theater Center dot org, that is the website you can go to to
give for the bounce back fund. In this time, our live theater partners are such a vital part of what we
do. We love being able to see productions, the fact that I hadn't watched the video until we
watched it just now together. The fact that we are, they're going to be doing the sound of music that
is actually the lovely and talented Mrs. Irvin's favorite of all time. So I want to make sure that we
we're helping them out. And wherever you are, if you are a fan of comedy, please go to tip,
please tip your white staff dot com or tip your white staff dot com where my number of comedians are
getting together and raising money for their favorite comedy clubs as well. Alex,
Rachel, you guys can unmute your mic. Sorry, I was actually posting. And if you would like to help with
the Dallas Theater bounce back fund, you can actually find a link on our social media by a Facebook
looking at the clubhouse podcast. Big thank you to Kevin Moriarty for that great video.
And don't make sure that you send that send this to them if you would later.
Yeah. They know how we love them and support them. Yeah, we're going to spend a lot of time today
focusing on sports. Last week, we spent a lot of time focusing on on entertainment. And we're
still going to do a little bit of entertainment because we've got to get our James Bond update in.
But before we get to that, I've got to give at least one headline for Alex because it is something
that was announced this week that is very much a part of who he is. And we would be remiss if we
did not remind everybody to circle May 3rd on your calendar for the premiere of Rick and Mori season 5.
So absolutely. I would love that they just titled the trailer the other five.
They were contracted for in the season, correct?
Correct. Yeah, no, they did five episodes. They were contracted for 10. And they literally were just
yeah, the other five. Now granted, there's also probably going to be a big gap between this season
ending and the next season after that, mostly because the guys from Rick and Mori have been
contracted for other shows at other avenues as well. And we're having to get the next five episodes
on May 3rd. And then one for me, we were getting another lawn order with Elliott Stabler.
It's going to spin off of SVU coming soon. Chris Maloney returning to the lawn order fold
as Elliott Stabler in the NYPD organized crime unit. So I may now have lawn order to watch again
because I'm boycotting SVU. All right. What we talked about last weekend, we're going to go ahead and
do this this weekend again, having Rachel on this particular episode is really important because
one of these sports is very near and dear to her heart. And links to me on a certain level,
especially this year. We want to talk about sports in general, mainly the four majors.
And how this entire situation is COVID-19 situation is affecting our sports. And I want to do
them kind of in the order we tend to do them basically from what's active now to what's coming up
or what is allegedly active now. And we're going to start with the NBA garbage.
It's it's his bit. No, it's my fact. So I want to go, no, it's your it's your opinion. Let's let's
be let's be nice. Remember, I do want to look at because I don't have the data. So let me pull this
up real quick as I'm looking at this. It's the beauty of having three screens to work with.
I don't know how we went without this for so long. I guess it's just kind of one of those
we didn't know what we had. Well, technically we've never had any screens to work with. It's just you.
No, I'm talking about in general. Oh, okay. Yeah, we know I have no no earthly idea.
Having three screens is just mind blowing to me. And it's also supplying light because if I turn
the light on in this room, everything has this rear green tinge like I'm in a David Fincher film.
I don't know what that's all about. So it looks like you can say for the most part, we have played
65, 64, 65 games of the season at this point, which means we have somewhere between 13 and 14,
depending on the team and the number of games they played to get to 82,
which really in the grand scheme of things, not a whole lot of games. Let's be honest,
in the grand scheme of things, not a time. You could knock out 12 games in less than three weeks,
depending on the road trip. But the other aspect is at this point, what they even want to,
when you think about it, we're going to be coming up on next week or later this week,
an entire month of them have since they suspended this season indefinitely on March 11th.
We would have been deep into round one of the playoffs by now. We probably would have been
into round two if not further, depending on depending on it's correct, depending on how long that
went. So the first question becomes, and I want to bury the lead Alex because I do have your point
on the run sheet, but I want to bury the lead a little bit on this. The first question becomes,
do we finish the regular season? Do we truncate the regular season? And let's put a day,
let's put a theoretical date on it at this point of, let's just say June 1st. Let's be,
let's be aggressive and say June 1st is when we're going to have games played.
Do we finish the season? Do we truncate the season? And that's not talking about playoffs.
I just want to talk about regular season at this point. Done.
I think what they will do is they, honestly, I think the season's scrapped,
but if they're able to salvage it some way, I think what they will do is just
take the top teams whoever and put them into a playoffs or they'll have a short and playoff
season somehow. So you're saying no more regular season goes straight to the playoffs,
top four teams probably start in the conference finals. And you got to get availability of the
arenas and everything else too. Well, I think all of that's up in the air right now, though.
Yeah, so I mean, there's a lot of what ifs, but personally, I think the season's scrapped.
But if they do, if they're able to salvage it, I think they'll have a limited playoff of four teams,
here you go. Bye, later. Still, still best of seven or are you going to truncate that too?
I don't know. I think they do four teams, best of seven on four teams, and that's it.
And then final two, best of seven as well. Yeah. Okay. Rachel, what are your thoughts?
You know what? I agree with Don, which is kind of scary to say, and now that that's out there.
I have a feeling that's just going to be a line that y'all dropped from now on. But I think
I think he's right. I don't think they're going to try to continue the season because the
earliest would probably be June 1st. And that's the earliest. But I mean, you're hearing,
you know, I heard Toronto is on shelter in place until the end of June. I don't know how true
that is, but you know, you got your Canadian teams, they can't play. But I don't think,
I don't think they finish out the regular season. If they do anything, it'll be a short and
playoff season just to get something in for the fans. They'll just take the best teams and run
with it. Alex. Now, the question is, do you want to bring up that point now or after?
I want to get to this question first. Well, we do have some interesting reports coming out that
the NBA is pushing to cancel the rest of the season right now. So before we go any further with it,
the best case scenario in my mind would involve them having to be getting out of shelter in place
and being able to have at least a week or so of practice and then going into a different form
of truncated playoffs where maybe it's a best of five and going with their normal maybe six to
eight teams because normally it's eight in both conferences and pushing through as fast as they
can with limited days off in between. But I think that they would wind up not shorting people on
that. However, I think that they're more pushing for the fact of just canceling outright because of
let's be honest, there's so much contact in that sport and they're the ones that had the
the rep thanks to one, I'm not even going to say his name, not taking it so seriously and deciding
to share COVID with everybody around him. So the NBA is running a little mayor? Yes. So I think
what they're trying to do is they're they're more likely going to do nothing and just trying to get
away from the season and pretend like it never happened. Well, and of the major four, this is where
the wrinkle comes into play. Alex texted me, I was either Tuesday or Wednesday, it said, hey man,
put this on the run sheet. And so I googled, he just sent me what they're saying is bylaw6.20.
Hi, girl. Or is that true? Alex just wants.
Bylaw6.23, which is in the NBA rulebook says, and I've got it, I got this and this is word for
word, if the season ends prior to April 1st, the team with the best record the year the finals
would be held is the is the held in is the undisputed champion. So if bylaw6.23 takes effect,
by default, no playoffs, no nothing, the Los Angeles Lakers are your 2019 2019 2020 NBA champion.
Garbage with a huge aspect in the history books. I mean, well, no, it falls under what their
rules are set. Yeah, yeah, they won't be an asterisk on the title. They'll purely be an asterisk
saying short and season. Yeah, I mean, if they go, yeah, if they go to that list of all the teams
and everything of the winners, but then 2012, you know, 19 to 20 champions, they're going to have
that huge aspect, just like when they did Mickey Mantle putting, I mean, Roger Maris with the big,
it's 61 asterisk. I think it's going to be the same thing. Asterisk. That was it. No, it isn't.
And we'll talk about that a little bit more when we get to baseball as well, because baseball has
dealt with something similar to this, but not with the same catalyst. And that's kind of where a lot
of this is coming from. If it were me, I know that I mean, I liked the NBA is taking a cue from
NASCAR. I still think NASCAR is the really the only sport that can do esports effectively in this
time because of the way that that racing video games are set. NBA is doing the NBA 2K challenge where
different players are using their teams to play against other teams. To me, that's just for fun.
Let's raise the money for charity and have a good time. There is also some discussions they've
been having with ESPN about doing horse competitions among major members of the league in their home
gyms and having a validation of live video to have horse competitions among players just have content
and do something. That is not garbage. And this is not a question. This is a basketball game for
those of you that do not know. It's where you take a shot and then someone else has to replicate that
shot. And if they miss it, you spell out the word horse. I'm just a void. What kind of America do we
have to explain that in? We are worldwide. We are global. We have a huge eat all in Denmark.
I'm telling you that right now. I'm a big fan because they love talking with their eyes closed.
Yes. I was going to say it. So NBA for me,
I would do I am more online with Don with a 14 playoff because the problem we're dealing with at
this point is the calendar. And we're going to we're as we wrap up sports talk, we're going to talk
about how the calendar is it could work and the bottleneck that this could create in the worst
of ways on some from some aspects and others. It could be the best of ways. Then we go to the NHL.
The problem with the NHL for me. And maybe not because of where we live. But the NHL in general.
The NHL has played anywhere between 68 and to 70 games depending on who you are. So really,
you're only talking about 10 to 12 games to be played out in the regular season.
The NBA since every everything's indoors and there's no real
climate that's conducive to basketball per se. This wouldn't be weird as weird to me as the NHL
would be. The NHL. It's a winter sport to me. So even though you play all those games in
arenas as well, don't get me wrong. I feel like the NHL should also go just go straight to playoffs.
Let's get this knocked out because the NHL, if you are the team that wins the Stanley Cup,
the NHL has the shortest off season of any of the major four. If you win the Stanley Cup or if you're
in the Stanley Cup finals, you have six weeks off until you start preparing camp for the next season.
So the NHL for me, I would almost, if I were to take that 6.23, I would be more apt to apply
into the NHL than I would be to the NBA, but the NHL does not have that provision.
I would say same thing with the NHL as the NBA. 14 playoff. Let's go. Let's get this cranked out.
Rachel, what are your thoughts? I agree. I think the regular season for those two sports,
I mean, there's no way to finish those games. Again, we don't, I mean, saying June 1st as the
earliest because playoffs for the Stanley Cup, I think it's like mid-June. It's when the Stanley
Cup usually, like the final game is. So you just got to pick those top four teams. I don't know,
the points isn't what the NHL, I don't quite understand it. I like hockey, but I still, like,
oh, I got one point, even though I lost two points, whatever the point system is, just pick those
four top teams, get it done, get it over with. Done? I agree, like with Rachel, I think honestly,
I think the NBA NHL, I think they're done. They are done, done, done, done, done, done, done.
If they do, if they come back, if they try to salvage the season, it's going to be a limited
playoff on both of them. If they even do anything, I think, but if I had a bet in Vegas,
I would say both those seasons are done for both those sports. Well, as we know, you can't even
bet in Vegas, right? Yeah. Alex, well, you can bet in Vegas if you have the app,
which I have all of them allegedly, no, I actually do. I will not hesitate because I just can't
use it because I'm not there. They do have a geofencing on it. I have a peculiar response
to this one because the way hockey is and the fact that there is so limited effect from one game
to the next usually in a hockey game, and especially with when you look at last year with how far back
the champions had to come from even being in the last place as late as January, I believe it was.
While I agree with Don, I don't think that they wind up doing anything.
Put everybody in the playoffs. One game. Make it the March Madness style. Single elimination hockey.
You want to see some fun. Let's go. You know what? I'm on board with that. I'm on board at the
end of the 18. Let's let everybody in. You know, the get your basketball in March Madness and let's do
it because as we know, we're not going to talk a whole lot about college sports because as we know,
the NCAA has said for all winter sports, those athletes will get an additional year of eligibility,
which is good. Right. I agree. But the other thing we have is if you look at both basketball and hockey
in that regard, there's no starting pitcher like we're going to talk about later as far as any kind
of delay. There's nothing in the realm of like, well, football is single game because of it being
that way. But you look at what all three of those sports between football, basketball, and hockey
have is they have their starting or they're starting people in if the game is on the line.
Baseball you have pitchers rotating in and out with those sports you can do single elimination and
not have a detriment. Find a neutral site for everybody. Let's go. All right. Now neutral sites are
also going to come into play as we get into baseball because major league baseball is the biggest
season of them all. 162 games that were supposed to start five days ago with opening day. I know that
here locally, a lot of people did a virtual opening day, which I thought was kind of neat and other
things that are being done around the league. This is where it gets sticky for me because there's
a lot a bunch of different ways this could go. I've heard a lot of different theories and I'm
going to I'm also going to kind of bury the lead a little bit on this because the biggest
story that comes out of this is what's come out of last season. And I was talking before I got
in with you guys. I was actually talking to friend of the show Donna Joseph and we were kind of
talking about that particular topic quite a bit and she wants to say hello to everybody and
that she misses you guys. So we love the Donna. So we love Donna. I actually have a little
interesting bit of trivia as far as she's concerned. Alex, I don't know. Did you listen to the
mini episode yet? HTTG. I have not. So how did this get made as a podcast that I listened to
with Paul Sheer, Jason Metzougis and June Diane Rayfield where they talk about bad movies.
That's it. We you said I know I listened to it. You listened to it. We all listened to it.
They actually did an episode and this is I know we're kind of side tracking but we're talking
about the Donna in this works on a film that is near and dear to those of us in this group of
people in sleep away camp which the cast is our clients of friend of the show Samantha.
And did that cast has done a lot of appearances that shows that we've worked for who need sleep.
Well, there was they when they did that episode they weren't sure how all the characters were related.
Well, this week on the mini episode there was a clip played from a panel of that cast telling
about how they were related and I am pretty sure I would say about a 95% sure that that clip was
recorded at the show we didn't fade though. So I've had Donna's going to go out and check it out and
if that is the truth she's actually going to reach out to HTTG. I'm going to see if they can get
a little bit of credit thrown her way and maybe that'll be awesome. Give a plug to her. So
which I thought that was really neat. I was like I'll bet you thought because it sounded and
Rachel known somebody it sounded like Craig's voice is the moderator. Yeah. So we'll see how that
works out. Shout out to Craig Fry's great guy. So let's talk about baseball. 162 games was supposed
to start last week. If let's just say aggressively again we can start the season June first.
You're losing what a third of the games potentially. Yeah.
There's been talk of seven inning games to pair with double headers. There's also been talk of
just doing 152 games. My personal opinion and I'll actually go first on this one which is a
rarity on this show. Opening day June first and you play the number of games it takes to the end of
until you get to the end of September. The caveat to that and this is the thing that I don't think
this is so pie in the sky it won't happen but I am of the firm belief that in this season you
cancel the all-star game so that you can allow yourself an extra week of games to be played.
They've been talking about that for a week. I haven't I haven't heard anybody talk about it.
Okay yeah no no that's already been in discussions and I'll I'll jump in here. You have
the all-star game this year. LA and I'll I'll I'll get to that. The current setup that is
currently under discussion and most likely to be adopted based on this unique situation
is a hundred game season starting whenever they can get in there if they have to do double headers
yes if they have to do if they can't do double letters no but it's a hundred games and the all-star
game in LA is eliminated. They may have you know a couple extra days off in the middle of July
but the idea is as a makeup to the city of LA because we know the all-star game has its own
fan-fest and everything that goes into it for a weekend. You wind up with a potentially neutral
site warm location world series where all games are played in LA. Now the other caveat to that I
have heard is still playing 162 games but those playoffs going into December to make up.
I don't know how I feel about this because I'm okay with it. Well the only thing to think I mean
wearing Texas so yeah December's are warm for us but you've got states up north that don't have
roots on their part but that's why Alex was talking about those those playoffs taking place in
neutral sites that are either warm weather or don't right. And then if you have to make up is
go think of 162 games unless take for instance New York or Pittsburgh where it's outside and you
could have a blizzard even to make up those regular season games yeah how's that going to work?
Yeah but it won't because it's not 162 games but even but even if you did play 162 games you could
make up for at least a third of those with double headers. Yeah but I think what they should do
is when they're allowed to have the games resume in public in the stadium and all that whether
be let's say it's June 15th let's say June 15th is a starting date everything before June 15th
is scrapped and you just do the schedule from June 15th forward in the teams with the best records
at the end go in the playoffs and you know why I'm okay with that because June 15th is before July
1st that's all I really care about let's just go that's actually how they were coming out with the
the 100 game season was around June because it is about a third of the season gone. Yeah as long
as long as you're at baseball on July 1st that's all I care about. Yeah it would pick up on you.
What's been scheduled to do those games and yes it's a short and season but whoever wins
so we've got you got that established let Alex yeah yeah but that's where they got the June
1st would be the schedule moving forward with the 100 games now there would be extra games for
certain teams because they're not on the same timeline where they would not be counting or there
would be one less game pulled in that same aspect but the idea is is your your neutral site the
162 is off the table there's a a near zero percent chance that that's even going to be considered
at this point but your your neutral sites would be looking at warm weather now they they have
talked about with the fact that the Dodgers are among the top team consistently in the World Series
lately that they would look at other locations so the idea is as you'd have the nationally games
in Chavez ravine and then the American League games would be at the ballpark in Anaheim
now the idea is is it either L.A. team makes it those would then pivot to I believe females
so you still have a neutral site regardless correct but they would be in areas where the weather
does not matter or that the weather is controlled Rachel um yeah I just I'm here in so many
different things like on Twitter just different scenarios there was um and it was a tweet yesterday
and I forgot who sent it the major league baseball was talking about um just playing in Arizona
to no fans and I don't know how true that is but yeah I don't think we get 162 games in as much as
I hate that um I don't think it's gonna happen and I didn't agree with Rob I won it before July
first Rob and I have a very specific reason why we want this season hey I'm gonna say it the
Braves are coming into town and Rachel's taking me to the game and it's Waterburger night
that is happening I don't care if I have to stand in a parking lot a globe life field and get
Waterburger on the way in I am going to this game if we we had the tickets into Waterburger bucket
cap night give away so Braves Rangers just hopefully hopefully the season starts before thing
because really that's all that matters to me and Rob at the moment but yeah but I don't I don't
think we get the 162 in as much as it pains me to say that and I don't know what they do with
the schedule honestly do we just pick up where it was gonna start I mean you have the whole thing
about you know the divisions they want to get so many games in so do they redo the schedule do
they just pick it up where it was gonna start at and you have the opening day situations like
people specifically about opening day tickets now we start the season June 1st you know are they
get to redo the tickets so it's just I'm glad I'm not in charge of making the final decision
but um but yeah it's it's sticky and I need you to show your shirt to the camera because with
general not being here you are filling in as a lady of the house we have to make sure
oh okay my Wonderland shirt so my Linda Carter Wonderland confirming it is Ken Rosenthal that
was talking about the possibility of quarantining teams and playing at neutral sites the other
interesting idea is that they would possibly be mimicking and to go with a true neutral site
which is one of the things the NBA has been considering is a truncated playoff tournament in loss
Vegas well Vegas is gonna need the uh that's true the money they're gonna have great sports
fans out there I I don't care I know that I'm not gonna debate that at all and everything
no best sports fans I know are pretty much all in Vegas so now let's talk about the biggest
problem I don't know if it's a problem but it's a bit of a conundrum when it comes to
major league baseball and it lies about five hours south uh east of where we currently
the Houston Astros the cheating scandal we all know about it there guys have I feel
bad for the guys that weren't part of this that are getting plunked let's just be honest
I am of the firm belief that this punishment that was supposed to be for the entire 2020 season
the it should be amended to say the 2020 season or 162 games whichever comes second
I concur because that punishment has to be fair and equitable because they can't be held
responsible because games couldn't be played but I still feel that that punishment should be done
in its entirety 162 games or that season whichever washes
now I I I like the idea of move the suspension now I know that this is going to sound mildly
unpopular potentially I disagree let them play out the the shortened 2020 under a microscope
to see where they'd finish and then 2021 rolls around you know that's gonna be a full season or
well I have faith that it'll be a full season hit them with the suspension then one year
let them go 2020 you need the pub you you're gonna need people with butts and seats
why not you give it everything you have reason I disagree with that is what if they go on a run
I have zero problem with that if they win this year under a microscope then they win
I I disagree it's got to be the full 162 Rachel I I agree I I think that it should have
that little disclaimer you know the 162 no matter how many games we get in this year
to next year because they sit on their butts and like oh we're serving our punishment you know it's
like if your kid got grounded a week before the shelter in place started and they're at home
anyway because of this I mean I don't know I just got so basically let me get this right though the
Astros they are suspended for one year they're not suspended they are not suspended
they are none of the players aren't right so basically the team is being punished like
they can't make the playoffs there are sanctions against them am I okay so there's
if I'm not mistaken it's only AJ hinge and the GM that are suspended for a year there is no
there's no restriction from the playoffs I like that's why people were so upset that it was so
minimal okay quote unquote but I can take a look but I just so basically they're saying for the
2020 season I am of the opinion that and as Rachel that it should be 162 games Alex believes they
should be all next season because it theoretically would be assuming the world doesn't come to an
end again that it would it would be a full season in 2021 done I I agree with you on that one
there should be a full season 162 okay then let's get to the big one the the only sport that
actually has the positive do we want to confirm the sanctions real quick well while I was I wasn't
sure how I was going to take you so I literally have it up all right go ahead good the sanctions
include one year suspensions to AJ hinge the manager the general manager Jeff Leno or Leno
a five million dollar fine and loss of future draft picks there is nothing against the team
itself from a playing standpoint all right the only sport of the four majors that actually has
the potential to play out its entire season is the NFL but the first question I have for the three
of you is very simply this can the NFL play an NCAA not are they hand in hand can they exist
individually one without the other absolutely I absolutely the NFL can exist what you see one of
them playing in the other one not no I I don't see it happening but the whole point I have with
that when is you look at how ingrained stadiums typically are two colleges where you immediately
have the group whether you want them there or not whereas NFL stadiums are pretty well able to
lock down at worst case scenario I believe that both will play as normal once we get to that point
the only thing that'll be affected is offseason activities the OTA's which we know that are what OTA
stands for for those you unaware off season off season off season team activities yeah and then
you'll go into many camps and things like that Rachel so what was your exact question again I got
confused with his answer can it let's just say the NCAA cancels its season or one of them does can
the other still go on with the other one cancels I think so because people are going to want their
football anyway they can get their football so I think if NCAA cancels the season then you know
these people still have the NFL and I know they're NFL purists and the NCAA purist but at the same
time I don't think it's like oh you know NFL canceled this season we're not going to have college
football that's not going to happen they're going to both make the decisions on their own and
again it's just a holding period we don't really know what's going to happen but I absolutely think
that they can play you know if one does and the other doesn't done I think honestly both are going
to be playing somehow some way but one without the other yeah I mean if the NCAA says yeah we're
canceled we're done we have due to this and that and that regulation and that regulation and
the NFL still going to go because you know there's no spring ball we're not going to get any of the
normal spring games that we get because of this I also believe one can exist without the other it
will be very very strange I don't think either one of them cancels their season I think these are
the these this is the only sport that goes off in its entirety because you're not going to start
to almost labor day anyway the question becomes the NFL thinks it will start on time and the the one
voice that I have heard that is not as sold as most people are is a guy by the name of Myron Roll
now that in the main name may sound familiar to you we hate to say that he went to that other
floor to school that we don't talk about except now you could at least admit that he's a road
scholar I was can I finish can I finish well you were too busy being a jerk no let me get there
you you pulled the jerk card first um but he did play in the NFL he is a road scholar he is also
currently the other part you didn't mention is the fact that he is a resident surgeon in Massachusetts
right now he used the word ambitious as it pertains to the NFL starting on time
the only thing I see that the NFL would have to change and maybe hold off is one of the things that
WWE had to hold off this weekend and that's the Hall of Fame the Hall of Fame would probably have
to be held off at maybe do that as part of like that week that Sunday between the championships
and the Super Bowl do it then before we yeah basically yeah we actually talked about that
briefly last year where we were discussing that possibility where you might be able to have more
current team members involved based on the fact that they would actually be available at that point
there's also a talk we know that 17 games is official with the new playoff format however
another interesting wrinkle to this they're not doing 17 games they're they're they're expanding
the playoffs they're sticking to 16 for this coming season okay but what are the interesting
wrinkles though is in that extra playoff game having a feed on like Nickelodeon that's more
of a kid friendly feed which I'm kind of intrigued by because I know it's a kid like I love to
watching football but you know give me some I'm not saying we've got to slime the coaches at
their every quarter that would actually be awesomeness and a gatorade but I kind of like this I
like how they're trying to expand the audience a little bit and give it more a more kid friendly
feel because you know box kids isn't that thing anymore would have to be and I know that the extra
game was given to you as an NBC and ESPN is that right Alex I believe that's correct yes
and the the football talks probably shorter than everything else just because
again this is the sport that's probably going to be the only one that gets a full season in in the
year of our Lord 2020 just because they start so late in the year the problem is going to be this
bottleneck that's going to be created where you've got everything going on at one time especially if
if baseball goes into December and the NHL and the NBA go into late July could be as late as
August at this point the bottleneck that this is going to create not only for sports but other events
that would happen around that time we know that the British opens been delayed the Masters is going
to happen in August the Indy 500 is going to happen in August and other other events that we
haven't even gotten to yet we know that you know Dallas Dallas fan expose being pushed to June
there's other things that are up in the air at this point that we don't know when they're going to be
scheduled that could cause a bit of a traffic jam from from an entertainment standpoint Alex
the British open has actually been canceled this will be the first year since I thought they'd
want to say world war two that it's been that it's not going to happen for obvious reasons right
but the other thing we're looking at is I don't see much of a problem with that crossover
there are no shared statements anymore I'm sorry the Masters I believe I spoke to October I'm sorry I
was wrong I believe that's correct but I don't see any crossover with baseball and football anymore
the only places that have that mildly crossover would be parking situations and even then that's
talking from a spending your entertainment dollar or viewing time standpoint I'm not saying just
tickle standpoint okay because the last shared stadium is going right well but like in this
town where those stadiums are right next door to each other you're right the parking is going to be
a problem I'm saying from a fan standpoint and from a viewership standpoint well there's an
easy answer to that at the Westgate because they got everything on every screen well yeah there is
that aspect but unfortunately we've got to get on a plane in fly three hours to get there
that's that sounds like fortunate yeah and probably more of a you problem than a me problem that's
not a problem for me don't you have you've been kind of quiet on the football front I don't
I was your sport dude just like the rest of it I know I know I know I'm just like I'm just
taking in what you guys were saying I think let's be honest I don't think that the NFL on the
regular season in playoffs is going to be affected at all because you're talking like you're saying
September that's five months from now and I think there's no I don't think this shelter in
place is going to go for another five months let's just be honest I hope I now as could the the
preseason or training camp could that be flashed possibly or part of it okay it's have already been
canceled yeah let's also be clear on the terminology here just because shelter in place has been lifted
does not necessarily mean that places like stadiums and arenas are going to be able to reopen
there's going to be a transition time that we have to find this new normal when we're allowed
to leave our houses for longer than an hour at a time before we're going to be able to gather
in groups of 10 15 20 50 thousand I but I think by that time they'll be allowing teams and all that
to heavy stadium shows and stuff like that might be in back what we'd say to abnormal so I think
I don't think the NFL it's too far out it's like for instance I I have play tickets to go to my
classroom union at the end of July that is basically three months from now I think you got a 50 50 shot
on that yeah I don't think I'm planning them canceling that by that time I think by the end of
May they're going to a lot of these places are going to stop the the shelter in places I think then
they'll start allowing people the more because the curve is going to be more to do that that time
and medically I think it might have something to combat this by that time I just think that
June May and June life will be back to normal in the July like I'm Jimmy Buffett's he
canceled a lot of his concerts like the one in Dallas and he put it now in June and I'm still
scheduled to go to Pittsburgh and see him in July so and that one hasn't been touched yet so I
think NFL being affected on the games themselves and the season the regular season playoffs now
I don't think you'll be affected at all anything else that you guys want to add into this
discussion before we move on we actually got this done a little bit less time than I thought we
would I want to say that there's actually a positive note for this okay I think and now granted
I'm the stick in the mud when it comes to the NFL draft but I think the fact that we're not going
to have all the pomp and circumstance and everything done and biggest is going to make it more
streamlined and more enjoyable from an at home standpoint although did you see the thing that EA
had created I did not so there was concern over people you only get drafted once and that they
weren't going to get the chance that players were not going to get the chance to do the walk to be
on the stage to get a shot with Gidel they are they are creating it with some pretty advanced
technology that everybody's going to get the walk just not physically so they will have at least
a visual representation of that the only thing that this does have a negative effect on is
people being able to scout as much or to do any workouts so that could affect some players further
down the line what's that this you for those that have skipped the combine for whatever correct
but I think the draft itself is going to be we're really good and I found it interesting that
they were very very strict in their memo to teams your war room can have no more than 10 people
and if we don't see a seat between each of you and then some will dock you a pick later I'm on
board with this yeah all right great great discussion guys well well done I was very very I'm
very pleased with the way this went so let's let's go ahead and get into the entertainment center
because we're only halfway done with the show Hulu has renewed shrill that's the 80 Bryant show
that they're currently doing Netflix has given season two to lock in team which I'm very excited
about because this is a property that has been in limbo for so long it's finally getting the love
it deserves and they've renewed Castlevania for season four this is the same animation team that
is working on Kevin Smith masters of the universe revelations so I've heard very very good things
about that show the only TV on DVD and Blu-ray this week is the final season and complete series
form madam secretary this is a favorite of the lovely and talented Mrs. Irvin so it is worth
mentioning from a music standpoint so we're just going to run right through these Elton John did
his living room concert for America last Sunday I talked to Doc last night he came by to watch
the first half of WrestleMania and he did not enjoy it he did he said it was a little too pre-taped
so that he he could tell where there were multiple takes of things that were done
and versus being alive but I actually took the positive from that I'm surprised that Doc wouldn't
have taken positive as well it did raise eight million bucks though nice no last night no last Sunday
we reported a couple of weeks ago that flavor flave had been fired from public enemy Chuck D is saying
he was never fired flavor flave is saying I am not taking place in your joke because it was done
on April 1st but there's been no confirmation or denial there in Fiona Apple if you are stuck in
1995 she her new album set for April 17th is called Fetch the Bolt Cutters
she got a touch I still think she's not that's why this is news music new releases this Friday I
do album from Joe Satriani coming your way called shapeshifting the dream syndicate with the
universe inside the strokes have a new album this week called abnormal and a an interesting project
from a band called the sleep easies eaz ys called easy to buy hard to sell this is a project done by
the great Joe Bonamassa and if you know who Joe Bonamassa is I implore you to look for a song called
blue and evil it is amazing I'm a huge fan of this guy is one of the greatest guitar players on
the planet right now which is hard to believe but he really is I'm a big fan of Joe Bonamassa
so movie headlines we have some more casting for the Batman John Tuturo is playing Carmine Falcone
there were a lot of very strong rumors on that early on and honestly I based on the time frame
that this is allegedly taking place I like it I really love everything that's come out of this so far
I love I'm still not sold on patents and I'm telling you I I feel the way I felt about Keaton I'm okay
with this because when they first announced Michael Keaton everybody's like oh he's a comic actor
but I'm like no no y'all don't understand like let me let me educate you on Bruce Wayne you have to
be able to look at that guy and go something right about that boy and that's the way that's that's
how Michael Keaton works and I think with patents and it's going to be the same thing
because something really ain't right with that boy I still need to see with Kristen Wig what we're
doing with the Cheetah costume yeah I am really confused by that one and they're specifically holding
it back and I kind of I'm okay with it because I'm gonna see the movie regardless oh yeah but I
I want to see what they're doing and I feel like we need to hear Rachel on this one you know what
I honestly don't know much about it because I haven't been reading I know
whether one eighty four really I know no I just I mean like I'll see a movie when it comes out I don't
read into the hype of who's been cast and oh Kristen Wig is playing Cheetah
okay that's what you got uh sorry did you see the announcement on the who allegedly is playing
the villain in space jam two with the with the brawn James I have not because I avoid garbage like
this what if I told you the villain for space jam two was one Don Cheetle really don't care that is
the rumor at this point uh he's apparently a producer he's kicking in money for it so
because why do you know the brawn James you have to go back and bring Michael Jordan back
don't care that probably will happen but did you and I we had talked about this with that whole aspect
I still can't believe how much money space jam made yeah that's how did this get made from
a couple weeks ago because the movie in Chicago that was wonderful I own the soundtrack to that movie
and I'm not sure I do too the great soundtrack I don't know about great but it's good
uh the rock said this week that they are in development for Hobbes and Shaw too
oh do we have to start saying like Fast and Furious 11 Hobbes and Shaw two do we need a
do we need a colon in there I don't well it's Fast and Furious presents and Sarl and I now have more
time to catch up on those movies since that's been pushed back and that is true you do have another
year so let's talk let's talk about release dates um Artemis Fowell is now going straight to
Disney Plus I saw the trailer for I was hoping you had I was hoping you had this on the list uh
I'm very intrigued by this did you realize it is a 12 book series well I I saw the trailer for
the first time last night I began DVRing nothing but trailers again on access TV and that was on
last night and I I did say the dodge I was like is this up series of books and he said yeah I'm like
so this is like Lord of the Rings meets James Bond and he's like yeah pretty much or Harry
with some men in black involved so um the Pixar Soul is still set for June 19th
I'm very intrigued by this Mulan is now set for July 24th which that's a hard pass for me
no mooshu no Mulan uh some people have seen early screeners of it speak very highly of it so
I'm a bit more injury people whose opinion I value oh still don't care uh the French dispatch
is now set for October 16th this is the new Paul Thomas Anderson film that if you if you've
been in a Paul Thomas Anderson film you're in this thing it's it's multiple stories in one
in it's kind of an anthology kind of a thing oh I've seen the trailer like I said everybody
and their brothers in it uh Black Widow is now set for November the 6th oh wow
and free guy with Ryan Reynolds now set for December the 11th I don't care when they release that
or how I want to see that movie oh that that's happening I'm very much looking forward to that um
what that might that might be a field trip movie the Steven Spielberg Westside story is
is is still set for the fry of the one week before Christmas day December 18th and the last
duel is now still on Christmas day the eternal is now going to be February 12th of 2021
so Kumail Nanjiani needs to stay fit for a little bit longer shangchi now May 7th 2021
jungle cruise has been pushed back a year to July 20th of 2021
doctor strange in the multiverse of sadness which is supposed to go into production in June
was that was that on purpose huh you said multitude or in the multiverse of sadness
oh it's madness isn't that I typed it wrong yeah no I just wanted to make sure you weren't
making it joke because it's supposed to be a horror movie no it's madness it is now set for
November 5th 2021 uh which then pushes Thor love and thunder back to February 18th of 2022
there's got to be a lot of hair metal in that movie it just sounds like it which then pushes
Black Panther 2 back to May 6th 2022 captain marvel to July 8th 2022 and Indiana Jones 5 now July 29th
2022 you mean Indiana Jones 4 I don't I don't I don't acknowledge the other one
it happened remember well no it didn't we learned something from that film if a nuclear bomb
goes off you get in the fridge and you live that's the lesson ignoring all of this
DVD and Blu-ray new releases this week on Tuesday do little with the Robert Downey Jr where it's
got very mixed reviews and if you're not feeling tortured enough get ready for cats kids because
it's available on Tuesday you're the reason that movie failed because you didn't go out and support
it Rob I wanted it to failed on I just hate that I just hate that there is a version of this film
that allegedly exists that's called the butt hole cut oh it does it does I hate I hate everything
about this on these so many levels yeah what do you hate more this or the NBA oh oh hi oh hi oh
in Judy Dench my heart hurts for you um little women that was done by the the
Gritator League available this week escape from Pretoria with with Harry Potter Redcliffe this week
and I'm actually very intrigued by that one it does look good yeah and then army of shadows gets
the criterion collection treatment oh not army of darkness army of shadows so come right
all right guys you're ready to get to part three of our bond discussion I'm gonna need help with
where we left off to be honest with you oh it's been a while and I was leading to Roger Ballway
too much we ended out of view to a kill we ended at garbage well one of my favorite themes of
all time though of you to a kill by Derand Derand and the blonde Christopher walkin I still can't
get over that I I tried to explain okay so Sean's brother has never seen any of the older bond
movies like the literally he's never seen anybody but Daniel Craig so he's like oh other people
played Bond and I'm like yeah five of them and I just I just stared at him for a little while
but I tried to explain and he's like which one's the worst one I said of you to a kill momentarily
uh and he was like well why and I was like um there's too much and but there's an episode of how did
this get made for you uh that was really well done so following up on a few magic mod joy
then when I am writing don't don't do this blonde Christopher walkin and grace jones what else do
you need this life all right let's go very very for those of you and pudgy Roger Moore for those of
you tuning into this for the first time first of all welcome and sorry uh we I since we've been on
this whole self isolation quarantine bit I have been going through and watching all of the James
Bond movies in order alternating with all of the MCU movies in order because I can't binge things
I have to have a palette cleanser if I'm going so I'm going back and forth so uh today we will cover
our almost all up to almost all of the pierce bras in films because I've only got one of those left
for those of you wondering about the MCU um captain marbles next so I'm almost done there
all right Alex let's go so following up on a view to a kid that we have 1987 the living
daylights by aha oh let's talk about this one for just a minute if you watch the opening credits
to the living daylights the aha and aha is still italicized so they're the only they're the only
theme performers that got their actual logo into the opening credits sequence the thing about this
but maybe people don't know is originally this theme was offered to pet shop boys
but really pet shop boys wanted to do the entire soundtrack and eon said no we just want the theme
song and they've said okay go pound sand aha did not like this song really until after
Norman got a hold of it and put some strings to it and they were and that version's actually on
their greatest hits album uh they said that it just didn't feel like bond until they did stuff to it
I did not like this theme song this is probably in the middle round of what I feel the worst James
Bond themes of all time it's lazy it's boring it never goes anywhere but the film it's better
than I remember the thing about Timothy Dalton that I like so many so many sentences have started
that way but what I like about Timothy Dalton is he completely takes bond and turns him around
because if you look at the way Sean Connery played him the way Roger Moore played him the way
George Lazen be played him with Timothy Dalton it kind of goes dark man Dalton is not the horn
dog that the three previous were it's true it is true but it's not right all you to go with it
if you Timothy Dalton films actually break the James Bond formula and the James Bond formula is
he has to bed at least three women that is true that is an absolute truth and it's it's documented
I think in total over two films he only beds like two over both films
he plays and it's and it's because I think part of it is if is the physical nature of it because
Dalton is a lot he looks like somebody who would play a darker character they actually wanted him
after he did flash Gordon really they wanted him he was very suave in flash Gordon they wanted
all four of the major stars from flash Gordon involved in the James Bond franchise when that movie
came out there's there's there's so much why I want to ask about that because I can Timothy Dalton
yes Max von Sado yes what after well you've got um Sam T Jones who has been on our show
don don don don't call him coming out of the bathroom but what I'm saying is is where would he fit in
why are you are is he your new Felix lighter you could do whatever you want it's the James Bond
film you do whatever you want that's also fair so I I Miriam Davo I spent the whole movie going I think
her sister's prettier than she is the whole thing with her and the in the cello and the cello
at some point becomes a sled that was weird for me and then Joe Don Baker being a bad guy who then
becomes a good guy in the in the Pierce Brosden films was weird for me to face turn um
John Reese Davies isn't it which always gets a bonus he's actually in this one and I believe the next
one briefly too as general pushkin it's good it's not great it's still better than Moonbreaker
that's what I got
back to you
sorry I had to unmute for this um okay so following up on that we have a license to kill in 1989
by Gladys Knight as I said in my post on Facebook well the tips have been long done by this point
right but this what we actually had this I worked at a movie theater in high school and we actually
had this L film at my theater when I worked there because who is one of the companies that
distributed the James Bond film united artists I worked at a united artist theater so you knew
we were going to have it I also had the one sheet to this actually in my room at the house
to Lisa Soto and Carrie Lowell as your bond girls I love this movie I love license to kill
it weighs itself down a little bit in a couple of points because the storytelling tends to stretch
but I love Robert Dovey as the bad guys is one of my favorite movie bad guys of all time
from a theme song standpoint one of my favorites
because number one Gladys fight now interesting point there Gladys Knight and by the way this is
the British spelling of license that has two seasons Gladys Knight originally did not want to do
the theme because as a gospel singer she didn't want to sing the word kill
once she understood the context oh the what the one sheet they use on on IMDB is not the good one
once she understood the context she absolutely was happy to do it and it is one of my favorite
bond themes of all time now here's the other part to that also I do want to go back a little bit
at the end of living daylights you had the pretenders which not a great song and I love
Chrissy Haind not a great song at the end of this one you had a song by patio a bell called
if you asked me to which I absolutely love until Celine Dion covered it and just
cracked all over it and Celine Dion yeah she's Celine Dion I am the best singer anywhere
this is one of my favorite bond films of all time because originally this was to be called
license revoked which is the source material for this film but they took a lot of liberties with
it that you wouldn't go back really to you wouldn't really go back to good source material to
Ian Fleming until Casino Royale at this point at this point we're really branching off into other
are other authors and a lot of films where the novel came from the film instead of the other way around
but I really really like this film it's a little long like I said it runs almost 2.15
but we're in the era of bond where they're all going to run right around two hours to two hours
and 15 minutes but from a from a from a title song standpoint I really dug license to kill it just
works one big strike John Rees Davies not in license to kill only had appeared in the prior
okay fair enough but Carrie Lowell her and this one really really stiff to start up with but the
longer the movie goes she kind of works into the role a little better I thought
to Lisa Soto I had to look to stuff did you know that she's been married to Benjamin Brat for
almost 20 years oh really she was married to someone else of note before that
Wayne Newton is in this as a TV preacher because which actually makes sense he's he's he's
he's out what is he reverend when I missed it I lost Professor Joe Butcher
the only the only character in this that really kind of wore me out and I can't remember his name
but he was Robert Davies sidekick not great not great at all but oh also in this the great Harry
Tagawa Carrie Tagawa's in this I forgot about that really yes I was just waiting for him to go
flawless victory and he never did how dare you so but I I really this is one of my favorite
bomb movies this one and license to kill is one I could watch over and over and over again to be
happy it would be where Carrie Tagawa would be wouldn't it based on the fact that bond
hey and I believe it was gold finger was the first appearance for a Japanese American actor
well it's only with the third one but what I'm saying no no I'm talking about any film
that was the first time I used an actual no I was actually doing research on this because I have
been catching up on the series with ones that I had not seen in a long time war in the case of
Thunderball had never I actually still amazes me that you've never seen Thunderball well as you
would put it I've seen it just in a different form but yeah Toshitango or Togo was the first time
a Japanese American actually played a Japanese American on on film all right let's give it
a little bit of a surprise all right moving right along we are now into I believe our biggest gap
in the bomb actually turns out to be the second biggest gap oh really well our just gap I found out
today was actually between Diana another day and casino rail by a year okay I got you so then our
our big no this is six years to die another day to casino royale was four okay so then somebody had
the math wrong this is the biggest this is the biggest gap so then my guess it's six years going
into the Pierce Brosnan era of gold and I okay so let's educate everybody on how this all happened
brought part the Brosnan part the Brosnan okay because Dalton was going to do gold and I and a lot
of people don't understand like why is gold and I so different from the other three that Brosnan
did that is because this script was actually aiming to have Dalton do one more go round as
bond but because of the time that elapsed between them they couldn't come to a deal they were
just like you know what let's just move on and be done with it so quick HSO I think Dalton would
have been better than Brosnan in this one I like I like this movie I like Dalton I like
Brosnan but see the Brosnan was supposed to do the living daylight but he was entangled at the
time on NBC doing Remington Steel NBC they basically said look we can't have you do bond and or
Eon actually said we can't have you do bond and Remington Steel because it's just too close together
and Eon was under the impression from NBC that Remington Steel was getting one more season and
that was it so they're like okay let's hold on a year and see what happens so the year goes by
NBC says oh no we're going to renew Remington Steel well wheels were already in motion for the
living daylights so they had to bring in Dalton to do that film in the next one the problem was
NBC did five more episodes of Remington Steel and then killed it yep which is really dirty pool
so Brosnan then sued them in one but he still couldn't take the role until Gold and I
Gold and I for those of you that don't know the title of Gold and I is actually the name of
Ian Fleming's house that he lived in in Jamaica that's where the name of Gold and I comes from
this theme so you remember two weeks ago when I said there was a theme where somebody for
some reason decides they wanted to be Shirley Bassie welcome to it to be fair Tina Turner is
right in that scope with Shirley Bass but but also I don't blame Tina Turner because she didn't
write this song do you know who wrote this song oh I have it up in front of me so that would be one
Paul Houston who you know is Bono okay Bono him and the edge well edge added to it Bono wrote
the song itself because there's no way Edge would have been there and I'll tell you why because Bono
wrote that song at Gold and I where he was staying on his honeymoon so if Edge was there that's
a whole another set of questions I believe the Edge wrote the music to it so got now the video
for Gold and I is cool and the video game is cooler oh well yeah Tina Turner I wish they had just
let her be Tina Turner and didn't try to make her into Shirley Bassie in this song Gold and I
I said come on man like you're Tina Turner you're a legend you can you can just Tina Turner this
thing and it would be cool Gold and I if I'm not mistaken also the very first Bond film to use any
form of CGI I've believed well based on a definition of CGI yes there had been computers utilized
for graphics in earlier movies but nothing with directly affecting the film especially with the
opening with the opening credit sequence with the gun barrel Gold and I as a film I loved it
um I love the plot of it it paces itself nicely uh you've got the great Famka Jansen
you also have one of my favorite still in all-time smoke show in my
episode no not debating that at all but one of my favorite lines there are two of my favorite lines
and the entire franchise come from this movie number one is as we are talk as uh is when we meet
Robbie Coltrane's character and he says Walter PPK I know three men that carry this gun I killed two
of them while uh many driver is absolutely catterwalling her way through stand by your man in the
background which to me wonderful brilliant love her love everything about her the other one is when
they're talking about his character and the and the guy says the Bond you know him blah blah blah
walks with a limp and Bond says no him I gave him the limp yeah that is a great line
this movie works on a number of levels for me you know you got the train sequence which I
absolutely adored um the final fight Sean Bean spoiler alert he dies it's Sean Bean in a movie it's
gonna happen now sure but I thought you know Sean Bean was phenomenal in this movie you also get
the introduction of Dame Judy Dench as M the great yes she where a lot of people especially in the
community we're just like hey wait a minute I'm like let's just give this a chance and she owns
this role she abs she is M to me and it's really sad that she's not going to be part of the
franchise anymore I like who they've replaced her with because also true yeah person that they've
replaced her with was actually supposed to be M a lot earlier in the franchise really yes they
were looking interesting they were looking at him right about this time uh I really like this so
before he was who he who shall not be named correct um I really really like this movie a lot and
and I've got a sentimental attachment to it I actually had this on laser disk I had this one
and you only live twice on laser disk at one point interesting I just I remember seeing the grand
scope that they used in this one especially with like the satellite dish and everything that goes
along with it they just made it feel bigger but would you know chance to realize when you start
watching them like in proximity to each other they love underwater stuff oh absolutely James
Bond without a underwater sequence you almost want to take it out of cannon you know so wait a
minute there's no submarines there's no boats no you have no seabat being used oh wait a minute no
we're just going to take a satellite dish and put in underwater okay now we're okay we're we're
good we're fine now oh my god all right now let's start the slow descent into madness that is
Pierce Brosnan stretch are you sure sure it's slow because for me it felt immediate
hey I think you got one more out of it okay so uh 1997 I build no it's the next one I was thinking
of in 1997 you have tomorrow never dies from Cheryl Crow or was not supposed to be Cheryl Crow
this soundtrack caused a lot of problems Katie or up Katie Lang did the did a song that was called
tomorrow never dies that they play at the end of the of the movie that was supposed to be the theme
song because she says that phrase about 140 times but the Eon people were already sold on Cheryl
Crow Cheryl Crow was a hotter commodity at the time and there was definitely some issues with the
people behind the scenes on this watching that movie now it really takes on a whole different life
you have to remember this was 1997 I believe is that correct yes yes it is so 1997 the 24-hour
news cycle wasn't really a thing yet CNN was really starting to get its wheels underneath them
Fox News wasn't a thing yet I don't believe at this point so the concept of a media mogul
creating headlines to be part of a worldwide satellite network that would give 24-hour news
wasn't it didn't resonate with a lot of people because it wasn't really a thing as much
if you redo that film now it's a completely different ballgame it's almost kind of foreshadowing
as far as some people would say Terry Hatcher was actually pregnant when she was making this movie
which caused an argument between her and Brosnan because she was late to set a lot
and it kind of got under his skin because he didn't know that she was with child at the time
once he found that out then he their relationship got much better because he apologized he didn't
yes because as we know Brosnan is the gentleman of gentleman let's be real for a minute
and the reason I like Brosnan and I said this in my Facebook post about GoldenEye
is Brosnan is the culmination of the four guys that came before him
he has felt way more Roger more to me he has the ruggedness of Sean Connery
because Lord knows that man must shave three times a day because he always had a shadow
he's got the smoothness of more he's got the playfulness of Lazenby
but he knows how to carry the darkness of of Dalton not to the extent that he did so to me he's
all those guys put together because when you get to Daniel Craig it's basically a reboot so
you're starting over anyway right tomorrow never dies as a song only works with the film itself
which I'll talk about again as we get it later into the series as a standalone song not great
with that opening title sequence I can deal with it uh Michelle Yao is always amazing
as I put in my in my post she wanted to do all of her own stunts and the production company was
like yeah she's like but I was on Jackie Chan stunt teams let me do my stunts and they were like
eh because she's a badass I mean a real life one they uh Bond did not carry the Walther PPK
in this one because Walther had just rolled out a new gun which is the one he finds in
Michelle Yao's layer um let again mystery boat on the water submarine underneath it
it's Bond not the best um I would put this in the lower third lower middle third of Bonson
all right so from 1997 we move on to 1999 where I'm not mistaken somebody tries to sell you an
infinity but um it is the world is not enough by garbage what's sad to me is it took me forever to
remember who did this theme before I watched the movie hmm originally this was supposed to be
Metallica they were originally supposed to do the theme for the world was not enough they were on
board but they couldn't they couldn't get a song together that they thought fit and this was
still long before they did mission impossible correct yeah because they did MI3 yeah because it was
the edge and Adam Clayton and then it was limp biscuit and then it was Metallica if I didn't
remember correctly I'll take a look um this film holy cow this is bad
and Rachel if I'm about to offend you I want to apologize to you ahead of time
uh oh it is hard for me to put Denise Richards and nuclear physicist in the same sense oh I'm okay
with that no you're Christmas Jones are you kidding me this is not a hallmark movie that is not a name
of the character the level of stink that dish movie now what is Christmas Jones really that much of
a problem compared to other ones I mean this is also the same series that has had pussy galore
right where they made multiple signs with pussy galore on at least that like the tongue and cheek
there it's it's very you're a cheeky monkey this thing uh uh like you weren't even trying Christmas
Jones that sounds like a holiday black exploitation film look out for Christmas Jones I believe
Samuel Jackson would like a word with you I'm sure he's endorsing it um like her acting or if that's
what we're gonna call it completely waste this movie down on a level that of of her cullion efforts
like it's so bad and the story like Sophie Marceau I love you you're amazing and Robert Carlisle
as a bad guy I do you were in the full Monty like come on and you had an uncredited cameo
yesterday which I give you credit for but oh this movie is bad the the song fits the bond theme
but it's just not memorable it's not it's not good it's not bad it's just not good
and that's where we are caught up to at this point because we're out to get to what could be the
worst bond film of all time next up um I am very much not looking forward to watching the next one
but I'm gonna do it because we do it for the kids um which one is that die another day will be the
next one that's where they try to sell you an infinity now I will say that as of when we did uh the
world is not enough Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery are the only two bonds to play the role through
an entire decade Connery in the 60s Brosnan in the 90s Connery did more movies did he not I think
he has no 44 no he did more they for sir he and more did the same amount of bond films
Brosnan and um Daniel Craig will have done or the right now they've done four a piece
Craig's about to do his fifth because you're looking at doctor know you only live twice from
Russia with love thunderball um diamonds or forever and I'm sure I'm missing one in there somewhere
well you don't want me to say the other ones yeah that one doesn't count because it's out of
can and doc doc agrees with me and so it's verified it's ratified by no I'll tell you what if
doc agrees with you I will fully take it as being out of doc doc agreed with me so but that's
