It is 4-0-1 on the West Coast.
It is the 7th of January and the year of our Lord 2018.
Season 8, Episode 24, 427 times this voice has welcomed you to the Clubhouse Podcast.
Welcome.
No matter if you're here live on you streaming again, we're having issues in the chat room
again.
So I all apologize that anybody is trying to get in the chat room or whether you're listening
on our archive or whether you're listening on your favorite podcast app, we don't care
how you're listening, we're just glad you're here.
My name is Rob, I'm the executive producer of the Clubhouse Podcast and we're back for
a week.
Number taking a week off.
Why?
We're going to talk about that here in just a little while.
I know we had talked about Chad returning to the show tonight.
He has actually caught the flu.
So he is out resting it off, get better, and hopefully we'll have you back in the studio
in two weeks.
That sitting in for him again in the co-host chair is the lady of the house and the warmest
dressed person in the room, Jen Rome is here.
How are you friend?
Hello everyone.
It's lovely to be back in our home studio.
It's good to be home.
It really is.
And to her left as we go clockwise around the room is the official fact checker of this
show and a man who, if you're just joining us, we do refer to him as puff puff daddy.
You may know him as a fond don go but his mom and even don't for it.
I'm going to call him don for it.
Happy New Year sir.
Happy New Year.
We have a puff puff for my dad and Pittsburgh and made it for my mom and my dad.
And I bet they both absolutely loved it.
She made something today.
If she had it done already I'd bring some for you guys.
Alright.
We know that you think of us.
That's the important thing.
Riding out the day is the newest member of the crew.
And a man that now has responsible for me having two of the same shirt and I will wear
them both equally as much because they're both vigilante club Alex back.
Welcome sir.
I just want to apologize to everybody that after the telephone you don't get to see this
gorgeous face tonight.
But I will try to be as equally entertaining.
Well that's how we're going to start as we always start with updates and corrections.
First of all thank you everybody who supported who needs sleep.
It's hard to believe it's only been a week since that happened.
Really?
Yeah it was last weekend.
36 hours.
And we actually have pulled the audio for that.
It is available by the time you hear this on your favorite podcast app.
We're calling that episode season eight episode 23.
I do a little intro to little outro so you guys we can frame it properly.
Over $13,000 raised the money coming in we're so excited and we're going to do it again
Labor Day weekend September 1st and 2nd 8 am September 1st at 8 pm September 2nd.
The dates are set.
And did they say who won the big prize thank you Ming Chen.
We never got names put on anything.
So I think that's one of the things that we're going to work on next go around.
But I mean that was a pretty cool prize for people to watch for Ming Chen of comic book
men got involved and he called in which was great here in Ming's voice.
And somebody is taking seven friends to dinner at Chamberlains for a $1,200 donation they're
getting a custom eight course that was six course meal for eight people.
Okay so yeah.
I would have confirmed or denied that I was trying to call rich friends saying this would
be great.
Yeah.
But I mean there was also the one for going to see the stash.
Yes.
That's what I mean called in was because somebody and a friend are flying up to New Jersey
and getting it not only a tour of the secret stash from the comic book men but they're
also going to be taking a brown red bank and seeing all the places like where they filmed
clerks and all that good stuff too.
So Mazel tov to them a lot of great things happened.
I am the only person that made it all 36 hours and I felt pretty good.
I really did.
I said this on the other episode but it didn't really hit me until I got to the Wendy's
drive through by my house right before I got home.
And so I was picking up dinner for the lovely and talented Mrs. Irvin and myself and it
was all of a sudden it was just like boom go home now go home now go home now got home
eight dinner went to bed.
I said I said on the show because I listened back yesterday I said I'm going to sleep for
about 15 hours.
I did sleep for about 15 hours.
I didn't call you because this was charity but I just in just a general role for you
sir.
I woke up just in time for NFL kickoff and when my alarm actually my alarm didn't off
I just kind of woke up which was kind of nice.
And as I rolled over to get out of bed every muscle in my body went if you're going more
than 10 feet good luck.
Yeah.
I'm like can I get to the couch and my body was like barely.
And so I just sat in the chair all day and snuggle with the cats and watch football
and then I got to go hang out with barbed wire as his birthday came in because his birthday
is on New Year's Day.
We had a blast and then New Year's Day I just sat at home and watch TV.
For those of you keeping score I have completed crisis on Earth X.
I am now to the mid season finale's of I'm at the flash.
I have not started ages of shield yet.
I've got one episode of SVU one episode of the gifted and I have to watch Russell Kingdom.
We we binge watch Stranger Things.
I liked it.
I really love it.
Both seasons are just first season.
Both.
Okay so you're completely caught up.
Yeah.
All right.
But one thing on Devon's thing this is going to be you know about this but I'm going
to make other people in suspense.
If you're a movie lover at that next telephone I'm donating something that Gary gave to
me.
Yes.
If you're going to be buffed from the 80s.
Oh you're going to.
This discussion has already happened.
Friend of the show God rest his soul Gary Murray.
Very generous man nature that all that a lot of all of us got a little something.
His estate donated to me a bunch of Led Zeppelin vinyl albums that I have tucked away in my vinyl
drawer over here and Chad got some cool posters and Don made sure that because Gary was big
on his Hawaiian shirts always out of Hawaiian shirt on and some very important people.
Buffet shirts.
Yeah.
He called him Buffet shirts but he had one in the chair at the wedding to honor him at
it.
Yes he did in the chair and some very very important people to him actually got one of
those shirts that he had to wear to it it was it was a really cool thing and the estate
is working with Don and Devon to get some really neat items donated for the next auction.
He gave to me when he is alive.
Oh okay.
Oh yeah.
If you're a movie buff in the 80s you're going to go whoa on this.
So we're very excited.
Make sure you join us.
I'm going to be involved.
The show will be involved.
It's just going to be crazy and we're going to be off next week because the first grace
descending show of 2018 will be taking place next Sunday night.
We're going to take the stage somewhere between 745 and 815.
So if you all want to come out we'll be at Profit Bar in deep album.
If you are interested in getting tickets ahead of time there are 12 bucks a piece you
can just reach out to me on my social media or you can email me robbertoclubhousepodcast.com.
If you buy them at the door they're 15 a piece so save yourself a couple of bucks.
We're going to probably about a 30 minutes set so even if you're not off the next day
for MLK they're Don is showing me his very worn ticket.
They're still good right now.
I didn't want to lose it.
It's in his wallet.
Did you lose it?
Did you lose it only by one sir?
No he bought one for faith.
Faith Hessers.
Oh.
So.
I'm the one that only bought one.
Don in this.
What?
But I got my ticket.
But everybody on the show's bought tickets.
So I'm very excited.
I can't thank you guys enough.
It's going to be a great show.
Rumors of another show are swirling but I need to talk to the boys because these tickets
are going to be a little bit more expensive.
So I need to see if we're going to be able to pull that off.
All right.
Let's go into our next update.
Let's go to bullpicks list tomorrow night is the national championship game.
But it's not really going to matter.
Because it's all locked up.
I won.
No.
Okay.
But Don.
I did.
You are a you are in a three way tie for third place right now you and Chad and Alex with
22 points out of a possible 39.
Okay.
Anybody else take Bama to win it all?
Chad did.
Okay.
So Chad and I will wind up tied regardless.
Yes.
But Don can get left behind.
Yeah.
Don took Oklahoma.
Okay.
Did you pick Georgia?
No.
You picked Oklahoma.
Okay.
You picked Georgia even when it's so fine.
So my point flip did just as good as his analysis.
Well, I've done some I've done some statistics here.
Yeah.
Okay.
Chad had three different times where he got three in a row.
Don, you got at one point you went six in a row.
And you got you also had a three win wins three game win streak.
Alex, you had a five game win streak and one four game win streak.
Which means everything else was terrible.
In sole position of second place is the general.
So even if you guys if Alabama does win, you'll still be a point behind her because she's at 24.
She's at 24.
She did a three game run and a five game run and an eight game run.
She got everything from Northwestern through South Carolina correct.
Wow.
So a third of her points all came in one clump.
And she has 23 right now, right?
24.
Okay.
And you guys can't catch her.
And to remind people how I did this was I gave my two nephews six sided die.
They rotated picking a team and then they rolled the die and the highest die was my pick.
Now you picked Oklahoma to win it all.
They are not in the national championship.
You have sole position of second place and you cannot catch me.
I have won it.
Very excited about this.
I had a four game run, a three game run and a five game run.
So I'm at 25 points.
Nobody can catch me at this point.
I still feel like the finals in the semi final.
Nope.
Can't change the rules now.
Oh, I'm not talking about now, but I feel like they should have.
Well, you know, for a kid of wings, he wouldn't bump his butt every time he jumped either.
So that's not exactly true.
I'm just pretty impressed with that eight game straight.
But this is probably the most competitive that this particular contest has ever been in the first place.
So she has 24.
What do you have?
I have 25.
She can't catch me because both she and I picked teams to win it all that aren't in the title game.
And the only people who have points left are Chad and I.
Right.
So I might, if Bama loses, then we will have sole possession of last place.
If Bama loses, no, if Bama wins, you will be dead last.
But if Bama loses, the whole time that you're all tied for the semi.
And my coin foot is just as great as your analysis.
So that is good.
Great job by everybody.
We're going to work on something for March Madness.
I'm going to try to figure out how we're going to do that.
We've done it in the past, but it wasn't really anything that was as organized as it should have been.
Can I pick some?
Can I pick some?
I'm tanning to win it all.
Yes, you can.
Absolutely.
All right.
And just one other update from last week's show.
This was brought up.
And I am officially declaring that discussions will need to go underway probably this week.
Board game night is going to happen.
You just have to work out the logistics of it.
Excellent.
So I'm in.
I can.
And Facing.
I own clue and monopoly.
Oh, I've got a whole garage full.
Okay.
And it's going to be, no, you can't bring that.
It's, I'm, I'm declaring that it's every week will be some form of trivia.
It's just easier to play that way because I've got everything from general knowledge to 80s to 90s to television to music to movies.
To the smartest man alive.
And I think that, uh, and I think that we may need to do something competition wise within the show proper.
I haven't figured out how we're going to do it yet.
I have passed out at home.
Do you want that?
No, no, no, no.
You actually do pass out.
I actually have that board game pass out where it says draw, it says take a drink or, you know, you know, I don't drink down.
It's like, I know that it's a joke.
So we're going to need to have some discussions this week.
And also remember, we are three weeks away from the Royal Rumble.
We are changing the rules this year.
High risk, high reward.
We are improving.
And wait until you see how we've got this lined up.
There's no way Don runs away with it like you did last year.
It's just last two years.
Yeah.
I'm the back to back defending champion.
Yeah.
And you're not getting the three feet.
It's just not going to happen.
The way I've got this set up, the playing field is going to be so level that it's, it's insane.
That's all I'm saying.
And I think our ball picks have already shown that this is not going to be a year for Don.
Wow.
So there's that.
So what do I get for the prize for winning back-to-back?
Twice as much as I gave you last year.
Well, at the next show, we had this fraud here saying he was a champ.
But you know what?
I wasn't there.
I'm the champ.
I know.
Oh, we're going to worry.
Oh, he, that, that, that.
But, uh, he's lucky.
But, uh, so again, thanks for everybody that tuned in last week.
We had so much fun.
Thanks to the people at vocal media for letting us invade their house for a day and a half.
That was so cool.
They did such an amazing job.
Everybody involved.
We had such a great time.
And my prediction was pretty solid about you really want to watch the midnight to 6 a.m. block.
Because I ended up having to host three panels in a row.
The Doctor Who panel at seven in the morning was an interesting choice of scheduling.
Because let me tell you something.
The people on that panel, they've forgotten more about Doctor Who than I'll ever know.
Like, I had no idea what was going on, but it was completely organized.
And those people were on the ball.
Yeah.
Especially for seven in the morning on a Saturday.
And backing what you said, the staff at vocal.
They could not have been kind to any of us.
Absolutely.
Shout out to free birds.
Shout out to macaroni grill.
Shout out to, oh my god.
Shout out to the crossroads diner.
They brought breakfast on the second day.
Oh.
That was some of the best biscuits in gravy.
I've ever had in my life.
Oh my god.
Because you could tell when they brought the biscuits that they were handmade because they weren't like cookie cutter biscuits.
They each had that kind of their own unique shape to them.
Like they had been hand molded.
Yeah.
But I did not eat the quiche because they were sure some spinach in it.
Oh, real.
Or our spinach on board.
Cook spinach amount.
But it looked amazing.
That is an interesting...
It's a consistency thing.
Yeah.
It's a consistency thing.
I've heard that from several people.
I love that.
But the quiche looked amazing.
I mean, and they had...
It looked like they actually made their own sausage patties too.
Ooh.
Well, it was...
Oh, unbelievable.
When I can eat more things.
Shout out to you.
I believe Subway brought a meal at one point.
Oh, nice.
Don, don't think I didn't notice.
Just snuck some snacks in there as a donation.
So thank you for that.
It is greatly appreciated.
And everybody was like, oh, what's this?
Like a...
That came from my team.
So...
Shout out to everybody.
All the music performances were great.
It was just such a fun time.
And I'm ready to do it all again in eight months.
And shout out to Alamo Drafthouse.
Alamo Drafthouse matched $1 for $1 for $5,000.
Which helped us get over that five digit goal.
That we set for ourselves.
Shout out to all the local celebrities that came out for match game.
Really a lot of fun.
Friend of the show, James Faust was there.
Emily Jones...
Is it McCoy that works for the Rangers?
That does the Fox Sports Southwest.
She was there.
Jasmine Sadri from Formally of 1053.
She was there.
We just had a really good time.
Great job by everybody.
The riff on The Boy in the Bubble was amazing.
I ended up getting involved about halfway through.
I think that could go with a couple of different ones on the next round.
But we did a...
I'm going to tease this.
I had a discussion with Devon.
And you know how we have a subset of this show,
which is...
The iTunes exclusives.
And then we have a subset of the subset,
which is our Spotlight series.
Yeah.
I have been teasing the development for about four years now
of another subset.
We are doing it this year.
So get ready here, probably sometime in March.
We're all going to get together
and we're going to sit up the mobile studio in the green room.
And we are going to do a non-riff commentary track
to the Sandlot.
Nice.
And what I mean by that is,
we're not going to be doing the MST3K thing.
There's enough people out there.
Right, there's not enough people.
There's already enough people out there doing that kind of thing.
Really well.
And I don't want to, you know,
I don't want to mess with that.
So what we're going to be doing is we're going to be selecting
movies from time to time.
Nothing on any real regular basis.
But movies that we love.
And we're going to be talking as we watch the films
about why we love the movies and things we know about the movies
that maybe other people don't know and things like that.
The first one will be the Sandlot.
I'm aiming to do that right around opening day.
Good time.
To usher in the baseball.
Yeah.
That is a good time.
So be on the lookout for that.
And Devon has already agreed to sit in with us.
Cool.
That's nice.
So it's going to be a really good roundtable discussion.
Very much looking forward to it.
I haven't told my wife yet.
But still, it's going to be awesome.
I do have the 25th anniversary version.
She and I may have to go get manicure pedigree.
That's something.
It's going to be a lot of fun.
And then I got to watch the Sandlot that was on over at
Barbuyer's House on New Year's Eve.
Somebody was showing it.
And I was like,
you guys can sit there and watch your New Year's Rock and Eve.
I'm going to be in here.
Yeah.
So all right.
Is it still New Year's Rock and Eve though?
That's what they're calling it.
I don't think that's fair.
Even though I don't know anybody on it.
Let's do some NFL talk real quick.
We're already 20 minutes in.
A bunch of coaches are out of their jobs.
But not Marvin Lewis.
Who got an extension.
Who everybody who's talking about this is it.
They're partying ways.
Nope.
He gets two more years.
You know what?
I can't hate on the dude.
He's doing something.
I'll tell you what though.
Bill's fans coming in hot for Andy Dalton's foundation.
It was pretty cool.
You know, you got two more.
You've had one job.
By the way, congratulations to Cleveland.
Yesterday they had their perfect season parade.
I have not heard it yet.
Are you serious?
They did.
They had a parade yesterday for their perfect season.
Oh, you got to see the images of it done.
And the, and both USC and UCLA's quarterbacks have declared for the draft.
So whip a coin, boys.
One of y'all said it to Ohio.
I don't think it's either of them.
I think they draft a quarterback until I do.
But I don't think it's either of them.
Who's going to be Josh Allen?
I don't know what to say.
Wyoming.
Don't get, don't say things like that.
If you get a big sky country, then he's going to start chasing them.
He's distracted.
I'm looking for the per...
Oh, sad.
Sad Santa 2016.
Sad Santa 2016.
That is amazing.
It is Wild Card Weekend.
If you had either of the home teams yesterday, we are sorry about your bad luck.
Neither one of them won.
Much less covered.
So for the Chick-me-Gee shoe, one of the weakest.
It was a little bit another rough weekend for him.
Because he took all the home teams at the point.
So right now, we have a game going on.
At the Mercedes Benz Super Dome.
Cam Newton has exited the game.
That's just broke.
Right now, Panthers are down.
Eight minutes to go.
They're down five, which means right now, if the game finishes,
the Saints will cover either.
Although Jacksonville covered today with a 10-3 win.
Yesterday, Titans with a comeback win, it was 21-3 at one point.
No, that was the half.
At half.
And then, you know, the Titans rattle off 19 on answered points.
And then the Chiefs looked mortal because they had no Travis Kelsey.
Loose by a point.
And then the Falcons go on the road and beat the Rams 26-3.
I'm still not sold on Atlanta.
I'm just not.
No, not at all.
But let me see if I can get to see nothing new.
I mean, let me just see what that notification says.
He just took a hit.
That's all it says.
So got that going for you, which is nice.
All right.
Let's get into some TV talk real quick.
Hota Kotby is going to be replacing Matt Lauer on the today show.
Well, she was usually there all the time.
No, she was doing the fourth hour with the Kathie Lee Gifford.
Okay.
She's still going to be doing that.
So if you're a Hota Kotby fan, God bless you.
Because she was there the day they announced Lauer was going bye-bye and all that.
And, you know, I mean, she's been on the show a lot.
So that's still big surprise.
And I don't think not a fan.
Yeah.
Like her presence on lip sync battle just annoyed me.
Okay.
I do like it when they make fun of her and Kathie Lee on Saturday night live.
That makes me happy.
Well, that's love hanging fruit.
And you got to have that.
By the way, let's talk about SNL for a minute.
I'm caught up on SNL.
That second Foo Fighters performance where they did the Christmas medley.
Yeah.
Greatness.
Greatness, greatness, greatness, greatness.
I believe somebody told you about that.
Look it up.
Look it up.
Look it up, look it up, look it up.
I saw that.
It started with Everlong and then went into, at one point they're playing Linus and Lucy.
I'm like, this is the greatest day ever.
A acoustic Everlong.
Yes.
Big Foo Fighters ready for that new album, Concrete and Gold.
They're going to be here in the spring, I think.
Ooh.
That's a show I'd like to go to.
But again, Hota Coppe is still going to do the fourth hour with Kathy Lee.
So you're going to get four hours of Hota Coppe every day if you actually today's show.
So you got that going for you, which is nice.
Scandal is going to cross over with how to get away with murder in the second half of this season.
And this is the last season for Scandal.
I heard that.
Yeah.
The fantastic P4 loves that Scandal, right?
I'll show you your hand up.
Foo Fighters Starplex Pavilion April 21st.
I'm down.
But that's going to be a lot.
Don and I were talking the other day.
That's going to be a month and a half stretch from mid April through the end of May.
It's going to be a busy season for us.
That's all you need to know right now.
Because we were laying some things out and going, oh dear.
Oh, that's going to be a thing.
That's going to be a thing.
So we need to get some dates locked down on that stuff.
Oh, yeah.
You don't need to work on that.
We need to talk about the one in May.
Yes.
Because I heard some stuff.
We'll talk off.
Yeah, of course.
Well, I mean, because we got a lot going on in May.
No, we'll talk off here.
Yeah.
We'll talk off here.
Atlanta season two is not going to be called Atlanta.
It's going to be called Atlanta Robin season as in robbing.
Atlanta Robin.
I never saw that first season.
Donald Glover show.
It's got...
I've heard it's very, very good.
Really?
I've heard good things about it.
I'm a big Donald Glover fan.
And Childish Gambino will be performing at the Grammys this year.
That's the end I never thought I'd find myself safe.
But I saw the commercial today and said he's performing.
So HBO has confirmed that the final six episodes of Game of Thrones will air.
When?
In 2019.
Okay.
So you got a whole other year to wait on that.
But it wasn't taken so long to do six episodes.
Because they can.
And they're also probably going to be two to two and a half hours apiece.
No, I've heard an hour and a half each one.
See, I've heard it could push up to two hours each.
Well, you know, I don't have to wait a little bit longer after Jon Snow gets kicked out of a bar during a bar fight the other night.
Really?
Yeah, that happened Friday night.
CBS.
My wife will be very happy.
CBS has renewed Young Sheldon for season two.
She says if you don't watch the Big Bang Theory, don't watch Young Sheldon because it won't be nearly as funny, which makes sense.
Fox has renewed the Gifted for season two.
Man, it's a slow watch.
What about Gotham?
They can put that into 20 seasons still.
I don't know.
I gave up on that.
Gotham is one of my biggest questions in the Disney Fox murder.
Because with Disney getting all the Fox properties, what happens to stuff like Lucifer and Gotham because those are both Warner Brothers properties because they're DC?
Are they going to move them to the CW?
Or are they going to let sleeping dogs lie?
You can cancel lethal weapon.
That's fine.
But somebody's going to take issue with that.
I can't.
That could be the greatest show in the history of television.
I just can't bring myself to it.
I cannot bring myself to that show.
I can't do it.
It's the strangest thing.
Netflix has renewed the television version of the Spike Lee film.
She's got to have it for a second season.
And one of those stars has landed a major role this week.
And we're going to talk about movie talk.
The Fosters, if you watch that on Freeform, that's going to wrap up after season five.
But Callie, played by Maya Mitchell and Mariana, played by Sierra Ramirez, are going to have a spin-off.
Kind of like they're doing with what's the spin-off that I saw commercial for last night.
Blackish has a spin-off now on Freeform.
Do they?
Yeah.
With the daughter.
And that's basically what this is.
The two daughters.
So, if you are paying attention to the Netflix version of a series of unfortunate events,
the Limony Snicket TV version, season two is going to kick off March 30th.
I can't see that from here.
Saints just scored.
Perfect.
So now they're covering.
Fans of Rick and Morty are in the same boat as fans of Game of Thrones.
And sometimes there's a lot of crossover I'm told there.
Season four may not air until next year.
I'll tell you what, I just picked up the first few episodes off of the DVR,
because Cartoon Network has been running them.
If they're cashing out.
It's hilarious.
I have seen enough of them.
I can't bring myself to it.
I can't bring myself to it.
I don't know what it is.
I will just say the second episode they did, they hit the ground running.
Usually, especially comedies, have to kind of find that niche before they start rolling.
Second episode of Rick and Morty just hit the ground running and I was dying.
Don, are you a guy that enjoys American Horror Story?
I gave it a first couple seasons and after the New Orleans one.
I think you and Chad are in the same boat on that.
But season eight, they say we'll take place in the future.
Yeah, because after the, I tried on the season with the circus and that's when I lost it.
Even now, Kathy Bates and I will be some Kathy Bates as an actress.
She's great.
You're a big fan.
Let's see what else we got here.
Jillian Anderson says that this second revival season of the X-Files will be her last.
Creator Chris Carter says he, without her, he's not going to do anymore.
She also exited the second season of American Gods.
Did she really?
Yes.
I've heard there's a lot of instability.
I've heard there's a lot of instability going on with that.
Yeah, there's something going on with that that has a lot of people saying,
I don't think I'm coming back, but then there's other people that are...
That, that show is another one that's a very slow burn.
But just keep up with it because it does all come around.
Yes.
I really, I enjoyed it, but not as much as I thought I would.
But I believe it's her and Chenoweth are saying that they're probably out.
Because they got so much else going on.
Season...
I don't know if this had a ton of concerts this year, last year.
I just...
She's had way too much work done for me.
She is a beautiful, beautiful woman, and the more work she's having done, the more it's frightening me.
I will always remember how she looked when she was in college because that's when I met her.
She and my sister went to the same university.
Oh, I'm a city.
Yeah, they went to Oklahoma City.
And I don't expect Christian Chenoweth to remember who I am.
She probably remembers who my sister is because they had classes together.
But I did know her.
I met her.
I remember her from the West Wing.
That's my thing.
Yeah.
Because wasn't she dating Aaron Sorkin at one point?
I don't remember.
I do know she was Lucy in the Charlie Brown musical.
Or Sally.
Well, there you go.
I can't do it and has returned to the game after a clearing concussion protocol.
Let's see.
The season three of True Detective begins or continues on casting news.
You've got...
Right now you've got Marshala Ali and Carmen Yogo, both in it.
Marshala Ali is the lead detective and Yogo will play a schoolteacher.
Steven Dorf has joined the cast.
Talk about coming back from the dead.
Right.
He's in blades.
So you kind of got that going for you.
Thank you.
See what you did there.
But he's joined the cast.
He'll be an Arkansas State investigator.
This season is going to take place in the Ozark with what they're calling a macabre crime that plays out over three separate time periods.
It's got to be better than season two.
What a horrible letdown between seasons one and two of that show.
Because season one of True Detective was some of the best television I've watched in years.
Was this the one with the first season starts with the FBI profiling?
Or am I getting my shows confused?
No, the season one was Woody Harrelson and...
Okay, I'm getting my shows totally confused.
And then season two was Vince Vaughan.
It was like a completely different story.
But there were supposed to be threads that tied them together.
And you could see where it might have happened, but it never did.
It was the fans of the crown.
My wife binged the crown over the break.
She had some very nice things to say about it.
Seasons three and four of the rumors are Helena Bonham Carter joining the cast to play Princess Margaret.
Everybody I've talked to that watches that show is that yes, yes, so much yes.
That would be...
She gets a lifetime pass.
Helena Bonham Carter?
I'm sorry, Jen, what were you saying?
I was saying that she'll do respect to the part.
Oh, I gotta pull up.
I forgot somebody.
I forgot to look up.
I need to do this real quick, because we also had my number last week.
We talked about Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
She has been cast.
So they are going to do a Riverdale-esque version.
She has been cast.
It's going to be on Netflix.
Netflix has picked it up for two seasons.
A Kiernan Shipka.
I had to say that very, very clearly.
She will be playing Sabrina.
She's from Chicago.
You would know her as Sally Draper from Mad Men.
Oh.
She played Kathy in the 2014 version of Flowers in the Addict that aired on Lifetime.
And it's...
Oh, now it's being called the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, according to IMDB.
Interesting.
So 20 episodes, I guess they're going to beat you out too.
It looks like it's a 9-11 thing.
Because you have episode 1.1 and then episode 2.10.
Unless they're doing 10 each, I guess.
That might be what it is.
Let's see.
What else would you...
She was on Feud.
She played B.D. Meryl on that.
It was this last year.
Let's see.
She did a couple of episodes of Sophia I.
She had a long stretch on the Legend of Korra.
Yeah.
There's a lot of voice work.
A lot of voice work.
So...
She actually was in one episode of Heroes in 2007 as well.
So that's your new Sabrina.
The Animaniacs Revival officially has its order.
It will be at Hulu.
We're being told some time in 2020.
But I like to reiterate the friend of the show Devon Pike's response of...
They're leaving the big parts out.
Are certain people involved.
I would think they'd have to be.
You would think they'd have to.
There's no other...
It would be a travesty of human nature if it didn't.
Fox has confirmed that a new prison break run is in development.
And I like the original.
My wife liked it the very first season.
And then once they got out of prison and then they'd break back into prison.
She was just done.
Yeah.
But I will say this.
After watching Crisis on Earth X.
I don't know what they did.
But Earth X snart.
Even though he was a little over the top.
I thought was hilarious.
And NBC for those of you that don't know.
NBC is going to be doing Jesus Christ Superstar Live on Easter Sunday.
Playing the lead role will be one John Legend.
And Mary Magdalene will be playing...
Will be played by Sarah Borellis.
And Easter Sunday falls on...
April 1st.
It does indeed.
Let me see if I can...
I know there's been a bunch of casting here.
Carolina just won't die.
Are they at scored?
Christian McCaffrey short pass to the right.
Does work for 56 yards and a touchdown.
Good mercy.
Oh, here's...
And playing King Herod in this, by the way.
Playing King Herod in Jesus Christ Superstar.
Be one Alice Cooper.
Huh?
Okay.
Okay, wait a minute.
Are we really...
Tim Rice is writing, Alan Ruzinski is directing.
Andrew Legweber is an executive producer.
That may just be good for this material.
And he just gets the thing.
But still.
Let's see.
TV on DVD and Blu-ray this week.
Season two of Rowan and Martin's laughin'.
And kids, if you've never been...
Watch that.
Do yourself a solid.
The complete series of girlfriends.
And the Be My Valentine episodes.
So of Teen Titans Go.
I didn't get into Teen Titans Go.
I watched the original Teen Titans.
They did.
And that took me a learning curve.
I couldn't get into Teen Titans.
It was way over to the top for me.
Yeah, Teen Titans Go was good for the younger audience.
Teen Titans was able to cover a bit wider of a gap.
Yes.
And again, we're having problems with the chat room.
We do apologize for those of you that are trying to get in.
Sorry, Russ.
You'd be nice to that, man.
No, I'm seriously.
Because I'm sayin' hi to Russ.
He's always using a chat room.
He is faithfully on the chat room.
Yeah, he is.
He is truly.
I mean, at least say hello to Russ.
You always do the clubhouse podcast live every Sunday night.
Seven Eastern Four Pacific.
We are your one stop shop for all things pop culture.
We're back in studio for one week.
Next Sunday night.
Come join us.
Come hang out with us.
My band Grace Descending will be playing a 30-minute set at the profit bar.
It is an all-ages show.
But we take no knowledge of the formats of any of the other bands.
This isn't just a bands of our ilk kind of a thing.
So tickets are $12 in advance.
You can reach out to me and I can hook you up with those or 15 at the door.
But if you do come and buy your tickets at the door,
make sure you tell them that you're there to see Grace Descending at profit bar.
Next Sunday night.
And I'm off for MLK Day the next day.
So my-
I'll just rub that in.
I'm going to sleep now.
I have to get to work.
And I have the kids that we get.
So I have my ticket, but I may or may not make it.
Depends on when people come to pick up their children.
That's true.
Pick up your kids on time.
30 minutes of it is.
Yeah, don't get MLK off.
We know from 30 minutes of it.
30 minutes of it.
No.
Really?
It's because we-
My job we have government contracts.
You work for the government.
That's why you have to have those.
And our company hates the government.
Allegedly.
Allegedly.
Allegedly.
That's why he hates it more.
So let's get into P.O.I.
P.O.I.
Since we're a person of interest,
it is a segment we do where we take a person
or an entity and we debate their greatness or lack thereof.
So I want to go back about a month.
I actually write about it right at a month ago.
I was in the middle of the Tommy Boy Tour.
And we had to cancel the show
because I was trapped at Atlanta for a day and a half
in a snowstorm, which in retrospect,
hindsight being what it is,
I will take being trapped in the snowstorm that weekend
then being trapped in the airport to following weekend
when there was no power.
Oh, Lonnie Hart checking in.
Yes, our chatroom does suck.
Lonnie, you're absolutely right.
Hi, Lonnie.
Lonnie's my boy.
Lonnie was one of the groomsmen in the wedding of myself
and the loved ones.
Old OG Wolfpack.
I'm in his OG Wolfpack.
And I'm hoping I get to see he and his lovely wife next weekend.
I got to get a hold of Lonnie after the show.
Let's see if they're going to come out.
But when I was trapped in Atlanta,
I did something that I never thought I would do.
Did you really have that terminal by Tom Hanks?
No, I did not, I did not rent the terminal.
It's something that I've been very hesitant to try
because Old Man Rob takes over at a certain point.
But as I was trapped in the airport
and trying to figure out,
you know, I'd never been trapped on the company dime before.
So I wasn't sure what I could charge to my expensive count
and what I couldn't,
and my boss is walking me through this whole thing.
And apparently her fiance was in the background going,
what is going on?
He's a grown man.
And she, you know, he's a 45 year old man.
And she was like, look, he's never dealt with it.
I said it, I'm 44.
So I knew that getting to a hotel from the airport,
although it took us an hour to find a hotel
because everybody's trying to find rooms.
I was like getting a taxi to the airport,
it's going to be a nightmare.
So I broke down and I downloaded the Uber app.
And, ooh, oh, and Chris says,
hello, hi Chris, we love you.
And Uber is one half of POI this week.
Okay.
So I downloaded the Uber app,
knowing that a taxi was going to be a nightmare
because my hotel was kind of far away.
It was actually closer to the office than it was to the airport
because there were no hotels near the airport to head rooms.
So I found a Radisson located in Marietta,
which was maybe 30 minutes away.
On the other side of our office was our offices
right next to the new Brave Stadium.
And if you follow me on social media,
you saw all the pictures I took there
because I'm a huge Braves fan.
I'm very excited.
How far away is that from the Turner Field?
15 minutes.
Okay.
Turner Field is right downtown.
It is now actually used by Georgia State College
as their home stadium.
Okay.
Because I'm trying to figure where,
because I took that train all the way to downtown Georgia,
one time when I was in the...
Downtown Georgia?
Yeah.
Atlanta.
I took that rail.
It's just whatever there.
Yeah, or the rail is.
Yeah.
So I am happy to report that I used Uber twice.
I used it to get to the hotel.
I used it again to get back to the airport.
The hotel had a shuttle that would take me to a Walmart
so I could get a clean shirt.
That was my main thing.
I didn't care about my jeans.
You know, you can recycle jeans.
Yes.
I was more worried about my t-shirt,
because I was wearing a shirt under a sweater
and getting a little uncomfortable.
So I was able to get a shirt at the Walmart
and it came with a beanie.
My Uber experience was great.
Both of my drivers were amazing.
I was, you know, friend of the show,
often contributor of the show, L.A.
He does both Uber and Lyft as a driver.
And so he kind of, as he's been doing this for a while,
he and I have had many conversations about Uber
and he gave me some Uber etiquette.
Like, don't ever ask an Uber driver.
Do you like working for Uber?
Because they hate that.
And even in a taxi,
I take the, I don't speak unless spoken to philosophy
because I got headphones.
I'm good.
I did tell my first Uber driver about halfway to the hotel.
We got to talking.
I was like, yeah, this is the first time
I've ever, Ubered, ever.
And he's like, oh, really?
And I was like, yeah, he's like, what do you think?
And I'm like, you know what?
You've been great.
You know, you're driving safely.
The second Uber driver, I did ask a question.
Because they have, when you're, when you drive for Uber,
they have their own built-in nav app.
And I said, do you have to use that app?
She says, no, you don't.
She goes, we could use ways or we could use Apple Maps.
But with those apps, there's actually a delay
because it has to go through Uber
and then to the other app.
She says the Uber, the nav in the Uber app
is actually really, really good.
And she, she actually had like,
she had her, her Uber phone
because she actually kept a separate phone,
I guess, as a, as a personal phone.
So she had her Uber phone hooked up
and it was hooked up.
And then she had another wire that came to the back seat
so if her rider could actually charge their phone
if she needed to, so shout out to her.
Very pleasant.
The other thing I did, when I got to the hotel,
it was late.
I mean, it was nine, nine, thirty
by the time I got to the hotel.
The roads actually were in decent shape by that point.
Getting to the airport sucked.
40 miles, two hours.
Got to the hotel, got checked in.
There, the restaurant at the hotel
was only going to be open another hour.
And I wasn't paying, you know,
18 bucks for six chicken wings.
So I decided, you know,
Uber went well enough.
Let's try Uber Eats.
You know, I'm on a roll.
That logic makes sense.
So I downloaded Uber Eats
and Uber Eats actually connected to Uber
so all my information just imported over.
And I think Uber did the same thing
with another one of my apps.
It imported all my information
probably from my Google account, I think.
Probably they use that, yeah.
So, of course, you know,
Atlanta's in snowpocalypse.
Everything shut down.
There were three choices I had on Uber Eats.
And I don't blame Uber Eats for this.
It's because the way I found out that it works
is restaurants can actually,
just like drivers,
restaurants can turn off
their Uber Eats availability.
Yes.
And I'm glad that they have that ability.
I found out that.
So there are, I had three choices.
Indian, Thai, and Mexican.
So I had one choice.
Yeah.
Because I don't do Indian and I don't do Thai.
So I picked the Mexican place.
I get everything set up.
Now I will say this about Uber Eats.
It's kind of a neat feature that Uber Eats has.
And maybe other things door dash or things
it'll probably have to.
And Sarah Shealy, if you're listening to this,
don't think I forgot the story you told me about this
and I totally agree with you.
Once your food is picked up,
you can actually watch the progress of your driver
from the restaurant to your location.
Yes.
In real time, you see them moving on a map.
Yes.
That's true with some of the others and Amazon Prime.
Now, apparently though,
my hotel wasn't exactly on their nav.
Uh-oh.
Now, I actually ended up using it twice.
I did end up using it the next day for lunch
because they had a subway that was available.
I was like, I could do a meatball marinara.
Let's get this done.
That driver was great.
Because she called me.
She's like, hey, this is your Uber Eats driver.
I told you this story.
I'm like, yeah, sure.
This happened to me last night.
I'm sitting in the lobby because the hotel was nice enough
to let me just camp out in their lobby
for most of Saturday afternoon
before I went back to the airport.
And I just finished up Jessica Jones
because I didn't want to, you know,
pay for an extra half day.
Yeah.
You know.
Now, my dinner driver on Friday night
from the Mexican place.
Phone rings.
I don't recognize the number.
But it's a local number.
Because see, when your driver calls you,
you don't get the number from their cell phone.
And they don't get your number
because they're calling you through the app.
They're not calling you directly.
So they don't have your personal phone number.
And like my Uber driver called me
two different occasions.
And it was from two different numbers.
So I knew it wasn't his personal number.
So as I'm getting the Mexican food delivered to me,
the phone rings.
And it's a number I don't recognize.
But I'm expecting somebody.
I will always pick the phone just to make sure
that they're in the right place.
And I'll say, this is Rob.
This is what I hear.
Are you in a hotel?
Yeah?
Yeah?
Yeah?
Oh, I'm less than misted.
I'm going to turn around and come back now.
I'm assuming your Uber eats driver?
Like never identified who she was.
Didn't say she was warning like,
that was the entire conversation.
Very awkward.
Very awkward.
Well, by that point, it's like, OK,
I know what I'm doing.
You should know what I'm doing too.
Like you should start with, hey,
this is your Uber each driver.
I might be a little bit lost.
No, just straight.
Just, apparently, we know each other since childhood.
You know, people have done some childhood still greet me.
Oh, good mercy.
Now, I can't dawn on Uber eats in general.
No.
Because I thought it was a good,
and the really cool thing I think about both of them
is I don't have to carry cash to tip them.
The way it works for those of you like me
that lived in a cave until recently,
once you finish the transaction,
whether it's the transportation or the delivery of the food,
you get an email from Uber and or Uber eats,
saying, rate your delivery,
and then you put the tip in.
So you don't have to do,
you don't have to do the giving them the cash when they're there.
Everything's done electronically.
And then, when you put a tip on the meal,
it actually sends you another receipt
with the updated gratuity on it.
And so that's one of the things that DoorDash,
Urban Eats, you have to tip when you place the order.
Did you disagree with that?
Yeah, I don't agree with that either,
because you're tipping the driver,
and, you know, if you can follow their route,
and they've made 10 stops,
I'm not going to tip you as much,
because my food's cold.
And the Amazon's different,
because they don't do that,
but let me talk about that,
because the Fantastic Faith Fourth has been doing some Amazon,
because Amazon has something that's similar.
If you have an Amazon distribution warehouse where you live,
you can actually sign up for,
it's a minimum of a four-hour shift.
But you go, is it two?
Okay, I thought I was total four.
I know that two is food for his groceries.
So you can go, you can go,
you pick up a bunch of deliveries,
and they map your route.
Yeah.
And you basically work for Amazon for a couple of hours,
and none of it's stuff that has to be signed for.
You just drop it off and go,
so you don't have to deal with people.
If you don't want to.
What are special instructions where you're saying,
please make sure they answer the doorstep.
Which I think is genius.
Yeah.
I think I'm a big fan of this,
but you said that Faith had been doing that for a minute.
Yeah.
And I've been out with them.
That's the whole story.
No, that'd be kind of explained.
Maybe if you're doing the food delivery,
not the restaurant,
because there's food and restaurant.
Right.
The food, they're going to say during this shift,
you're going to, she could do two-hour shifts,
she could do a four-hour shift, whatever.
And they'll say you go to Maple,
or you go to Nox Henderson to the Sprouts store,
or you go to different places,
and what'll happen is you will deliver in that general area.
Okay.
And you're going to stay in that general area of the Maple.
So if you have like, because I went with her one time,
we delivered one delivery,
which is about 15 minutes down the road,
came back on a four-hour shift,
and they go,
okay, now go back to the Nox Henderson Sprouts.
Here's your next line.
It was like three deliveries.
Okay.
But you're always going back and staying in that area.
The problem with the restaurant,
and that's why they're not getting a lot of the restaurants picked up,
is because they told her to go clear to Frankfurt and Preston,
way north Dallas.
And she gets there and she goes,
oh, now your restaurant where you're going to pick up,
is downtown on Gaston Avenue.
For people that don't live here,
I mean, you're talking a 45-minute drive just between restaurants.
And she's like,
so she went down there,
and then she got there.
Well, you're losing money at that point.
Yeah, the gas are burning.
Exactly.
And so that's why these restaurants aren't going to keep you,
that's why they're having a problem with some of these restaurants,
and these drivers trying to get them.
That's fair.
Be honest with you.
But I will say from a customer standpoint,
though, overall,
I thought it was a really good experience.
Outside of that one weird awkward moment with Uber Yes.
But I love the concept of it.
Oh, yeah.
I was a little bummed out because what I was at Walmart,
there was no.
In Texas, we have Sonny Brian's barbecue.
Totally not the same as Sonny's barbecue.
Alex knows it all the time.
But apparently it's the same family that split in half.
And so you have the Sonny Brian's half of the family,
and you have the Sonny's half of it.
It's the same family shooting from branches.
Really?
Yes.
Sonny Brian's is from here.
Not a big fan of the Sonny Brian's.
Love Sonny's.
Yes.
They had a Sonny's in Atlanta.
But the guy told me he's like, I'm short-staff today.
I'm not even turning my Uber Eats on.
I was like, oh, you're killing me, Smalls.
So, but I knew there's one there.
Next time I have to go back to them.
Maybe the Uber Eats, they got people that, you know,
worked for just that restaurant.
Well, know what it was is he turned his off
because they were still dealing with the snowstorm,
and he couldn't get all of his employees in time,
so that he could do the Uber Eats stuff
and the in-dining stuff.
And they, it was even another half an hour before they opened
and I don't want to make the girl wait.
We'll see on Amazon grocery, they will say,
okay, you got three deliveries, take these eight bags,
and they will put it in an order.
They'll map it out from crisis to a thing,
which is really small.
As is what it should be.
But versus the restaurants.
No, I don't know.
There you go, yeah.
All right, so that's that.
Okay.
There's a lot more to that story,
but that's a whole separate episode of it on a pun itself.
Let's get into the music talk at this point
because we are your one-stop shop for all things pop culture.
We announced this past week, the Timber Lake.
Announced this next album.
It's called Man of the Woods, it'll be a hit.
It will be on February the second.
The first single was dropped on Friday.
I actually did put a link to it on my Facebook page.
It's called Filthy.
It's interesting.
The way I described the video is
if Janet Jackson's if video was directed by Philip K. Dick.
Like that's the only, it's kind of like...
That's a hell of a poll, sir.
It's the only way I can describe it.
And the song is very, I called it futuristic synth.
A lot of people are going with this thing.
Like when I first started out, I'm sitting there and I'm like...
Hmm.
Okay, this is a thing.
But by the end of it, I'm not going to lie to you.
I was kind of bobbing my head.
It's kind of, it's got what they call an infectious groove to it.
It's just, there's something about it that...
I think the more I hear it, the more I'm going to enjoy it.
I just think that there was a learning curve.
Yeah.
It's just a triple lake.
So we have to say it's a good song.
Or, you know, it's going to sound like...
I don't know.
I'm not saying it because it's Timberlake.
Let's be honest, I'm a huge Timberlake fan.
I think the kid runs the world.
Yeah.
But it's one of those songs where...
Like, you know it's him just trying to reach out and do something different.
Which I respect him for.
Yeah.
It's just, it's a song I'm going to have to get used to.
It's not that I don't like it.
I just have to hear it more before I can really start to kind of get into it more than I did.
So expect to see it performed here in a few weeks because he is your Super Bowl halftime show.
So...
I'm sorry to add for that today.
So your headliners for Coachella this year are the Eminem, the Beyoncé, and the Weeknd.
Because you took the extra...
Yeah, it was named.
It's the Weeknd.
So you got to...
Well, they may have a capital of two.
That's true.
Kendrick Lamar is going to be producing the album for Black Panther.
And they dropped the first single this weekend.
With he and this Sizzah.
It's called All the Stars.
I saw something over there.
I'll check, Hannah.
Yeah, it was just fourth and 23.
Cancers had actually driven most of the way down.
With 19 seconds left, Cam Newton sacked for a loss of 17 yards.
So fourth and 40?
No, no, no, no.
It was fourth and 23.
Okay, he's now first in ten for this evening.
So that's church then.
That's ball game.
So that's church.
Like Carolina covers.
Oh dear.
Sorry, chick.
You know I'm a fan.
Like chick, listen to this show.
Maybe he does.
I don't know.
Let's see.
I'm going to give you guys the choice.
Because there are two...
There are two different stories that we could use to wrap up this segment.
They are both equally as interesting as the other.
And we're going to cover them both.
But I want to know from you guys.
And Don just stepped out for a second.
So I'm going to kill time a little bit.
What you guys think the closer for this particular segment is going to be?
So Don's walking back in right now.
Don, where are you going?
The studio is this way.
Okay.
Did you just dry your hands off on my back side?
No.
There's two different choices on how we can close our music segment.
Okay.
I'm going to cover both stories.
Okay.
But I want to know from you guys which one you'd rather me finish this segment with.
And I'm only going to tell you who's involved in both stories.
Okay.
Your choices are Cardi B.
Don't know who that is.
Or the Snoopy Dog Dog.
And what the Snoopy Dog Dog, I guess.
General?
You can know.
Do you run the show?
I'm happy either.
No, I'm asking for your opinion.
Provide the answer to the question.
I wouldn't answer the question.
No, I don't actually have an abstaining.
Alex?
Snoopy has earned the hammer.
Okay.
So we're going to start with Cardi B then.
Who is that?
She is a rapper.
She has a song called Bodeck Yellow.
We need a forever.
Oh, yeah.
She is allegedly a former employee of what Pat McAfee refers to as the adult ballet.
Okay.
There's a story this week that says she is the first rapper to have their
first three singles in the top 10 simultaneously on the Billboard 100.
I am calling shenanigans on this.
And let me explain why.
She is the third artist ever credited to do this.
The other two are the Beatles and the Shanti.
My personal feeling is it's only ever been done once and it was by the Beatles.
Let me explain why.
Cardi B has allegedly established this milestone for these songs.
The first one is called as that number four.
Actually, let's start.
Number 10 is the Bodeck Yellow.
This is a big, this is her big single.
Yes, I give you credit for this.
At number seven, we have Motorsport, which is her song with Migos and Nicki Minaj.
If it's on her album, I give her credit.
The other one at number four is called No Limit.
And it's by G.E.Z. then her then ASAP Rocky.
This is where I call shenanigans.
If it's not her song, to me, it doesn't count.
And Lonnie says Cardi B talks does not rap.
So he's got young daughters.
I guess he's kind of in the loop there.
I call shenanigans.
I don't think this counts.
Now, when you look at his shanties and interns in 2002,
Foolish, great song, love it.
What's love, but she only sings the hook that's a fat Joe song.
Yeah.
And always on time, where again, she sings the hook and it's a Jaw Rule song.
So to me, that doesn't count.
No, it doesn't.
Now, with the Beatles in 1964, I want to hold your hand.
The Beatles.
She loves you.
The Beatles.
Please, please me.
The Beatles.
That one counts.
I don't count these other two.
Thoughts.
I agree with you 100%.
Just because they do.
It's like, was it four minutes with Madonna?
And who's the guy that does that?
Oh, that would turn Timberlake.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Four minutes to save.
Who did the intro?
Do you go four minutes?
Oh, Timberlake.
Timberlake.
Timberlake.
Yeah.
It's like, did that count for him?
He's a producer, though.
But you know, he's a producer.
Yeah, but as an artist, no.
But at the beginning.
Right.
Let's say the same thing if he had two other hits.
And he had that little featuring Timberlake.
Go for it.
So I am officially claiming shenanigans.
And I was going to say on her number four, I'd have to hear the song.
Because if she's actually singing the whole way through it.
She doesn't sing.
She talks.
Okay.
If she's vocal, the whole way through is if it's like.
I don't think she is.
If it's a duet or something, then, okay, maybe she should get credit.
But if it's this hook or just part of it, then no.
She doesn't get credit.
But it doesn't actually.
All right.
Ronnie says Cardi B songs have no hook.
It's just her talking.
You would know better than that.
That's not singing.
So you got that going for you, which is nice.
This is just a desperate grab for somebody that, obviously,
I don't think anybody in this room has actually heard of.
Yeah.
I'm declaring.
To say, hey, here's something to say.
All right.
So let's get to this movie dog doc story, because I love this story.
As we know, this week in California, it was official.
That you may now recreationally roll the doobies.
It's another reason I'm glad we don't have cameras,
because I have to do the whole hand movement when we do that.
If it was an excellent Farley, sir.
So date line Long Beach, also known as the LBC by the Snoopy dog dog.
So much drama.
He is.
It's like I got reminded that in my memories thread,
that one of my greatest tweets of all time,
I said, I have to believe that at least at some point,
Inglewood was up to some good.
The Snoopy dog dog has teamed up with Jack in the box
at three Long Beach locations for something called the Mary Munchie meal.
Stay with me.
I have heard of this.
I can imagine.
Here's what it entails.
Two tacos, French fries, onion rings, five mini churros,
three chicken strips and a small drink.
All four.
Anybody not you.
Anybody want to guess the price?
420.
420.
Four dollars and 20.
420.
How do you get 420?
That's the law code.
Okay.
Okay.
I get it.
I didn't know the law code.
Wait, wait, wait.
Back the truck up a minute.
Are you seriously telling me you don't know the 420 reference?
No.
I've never heard before, but you didn't click until now.
I'm done.
I'm ashamed of you.
I am ashamed of you, sir.
Let's clock it at the 5927 mark.
But I'm taking it known.
The reason I know it is because of it being the code on the police radio.
Right.
Not for the people that partake of it that know what it means.
And to the people in California, if you got a fight against a Colorado,
don't think you can take that doby with you.
No, they don't have to go to Colorado now.
They can.
They're taking a truck.
I know.
But if they think to, hey, I'm going to take a fight.
Colorado.
It's legal.
It's legal in California.
I know, but let's say they think they could fly with it.
You can't.
Oh, no, no.
You can't cross it.
Yeah.
I'm just letting the people in California know.
No, no, no, no.
Yeah.
I thought it was hilarious.
Yeah.
It is.
And I've heard some people say the onion rings ever.
Other people say the curly fries.
Maybe you can.
But you know what?
It depends on whether or not the serving party is also ingested.
That's fair.
The music new releases in places you get music new releases this week.
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is back with an album called Wrong Creatures.
They've been around a long time.
I actually got a 78 that they put out in the late 90s somewhere.
If you notice 70s, you could look it up.
Black Veil Brides who has done some work with WWE for theme songs or paper reviews.
They're back with Veil.
I had to put, I always try to find when I've looked at the new release,
I look for strange named bands.
And that's this one because I don't know who this is.
The album is called Bring Down the House Lights.
The band is called Dirty Sidewalks.
I don't know why I find it hilarious.
Joe Satriani with a brand new album this week.
He's going to be in town here in a couple of weeks.
My bass player, Jay Edwards, going to be there.
He's very excited.
So we'll get a report from Jay on that.
It's called What Happens Next.
And if I say the name, I'm Freeze McGee.
Does that mean anything to you, sir?
I could think as Mr. McGee.
No, Mr. McGee.
No, Mr. McGee.
No, Mr. McGee.
No, what's that one with Janice Joplin's song?
That's me and Bobby McGee.
Bobby McGee.
You see the McGee.
That's the McGee.
That's where I could think of McGee.
Would you like a heavy object to bang your head against Rob?
It motorized history.
Don't look it up, Alex.
I'm asking if you know who it is.
Oh, I don't know it.
That's why I'm looking at it.
They're the band that do the theme for Around the Horn.
Oh, okay.
On ESPN.
They have a brand new album.
They're getting their new single On Around the Horn right now.
The new album is called It's Not Us.
See, I figured while you were busy being disappointed at Don,
I could just go ahead and do the cover.
You're listening to the Clubhouse Podcast.
And this is the moment the wheels came off.
No, remember we don't have wheels on this show.
They never...
This awkward silence brought to you by Don once again.
I just, I can't.
I mean, Don does bring humor to the show.
Don't get me wrong.
It's honest.
And sometimes it's intentional.
Truer words may never have been smoking in eight and a half years.
Seven and a half years.
It's not being honest.
No, I mean McGee.
I could meet up with a kid and stop with some.
But you called it Mr. McGee when it's actually Mr. McGoo,
which was a cartoon that was voiced by Jim Backus in the 50s.
Hey.
I still think that's your title.
Yeah, that's a bungalow bill.
Man, Bobby McGee.
It's just like we're just careening and we can't stop it.
Let's just get to it.
Memoriam, please.
Okay, please.
Because we have two big ones this week.
One of them happened...
I guess that was what?
Tuesday.
Emily Dole, who passed away at the age of 60.
If you are a fan of wrestling, you would know her as Mount Fiji from Glow.
I was a huge fan of Glow.
I mean, I was right.
I was in their demographic.
I was a teenage kid who...
You're a teenage male.
Yes.
She was a 1975 graduate of Boyna Park High School.
Oh, wow.
She could throw a shot, put 50 feet.
Well, she got the name of her.
Honestly, on the gold thing, I remember.
She...
The girl from like the...
From Samoa or whatever.
Yeah.
Okay, that's her.
Okay.
5-11-350.
But she was like a big baby face at the time.
She was the...
Yeah.
She was the baby face.
Yeah, I know what you're talking about now.
She was trained by Mondo Guerrero.
Yeah.
But instead, we need to debut in 1986.
They showed that Glow reunion, but she was in the wheelchair.
You felt so bad for her.
Yeah.
She had health problems for a long time.
I love the picture that they use of her on Wikipedia.
Because her big rival...
Is it a bench press?
No.
Okay.
Her big rival was Matilda the Hun.
Yeah.
And it's the two of them facing off.
She had a lot of gimmick matches, which is all really pretty much what Glow was.
Yeah.
She did make an appearance on Mama's family at one point.
She was in Sun and Law with Paulie Shore, one of my favorite movies ever.
Yes, that just happened.
Really?
What scene was she this on?
I have to go back and watch it again.
Okay.
She also did a group of female wrestlers that were all on card sharks in 1988, one of my favorite game shows of all time.
And as Don said, the last time she appeared was in that 2012 documentary called Glow the Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling.
If you have not seen it, you need to.
It's a great, great documentary.
I was such a fan of her.
You think WWE will do something this Monday, right?
I hope so.
I really do.
The other one, Russ texted me yesterday.
And it was one of those moments that I was just like.
And my response to him was,
Bummer, but man, this guy had a great run.
The great Jerry Van Dyke passed away yesterday.
Oh, really?
At the age of 86.
Just like his brother Dick.
Oh, absolutely.
As a coach.
And if you look at the picture of him on Wikipedia, you can see the resemblance between him.
And he was the younger brother of Dick Van Dyke.
His biggest role, of course, as Don said, from 1989 to 1997, as Luther on Coach.
One of my favorite shows.
Oh, yeah, we forgot to mention John Powell.
John Paul Stauer.
He was one of the young.
Star Trek.
Klingons on Star Trek, the next generation.
But Jerry Van Dyke, who...
I mean, he was one of my...
He and Donner were my favorite things about that show.
Oh, yeah.
They were the ones...
They were the glue for everything that ever happened.
Three children.
This was one that just...
Oh, my gosh.
He actually appeared in an episode of Charles and Charge.
I think he played the same role as he did on Coach, too.
No, he was Mr. Merkin.
He did a crossover somewhere maybe later on that he played the same character.
He got a four consecutive Emmy nominations for Coach as outstanding supporting actor.
In the 1990s, he was a spokesman for Big Lots.
I did not know that.
In a December 2013 episode of The Millers, he played Father to Margot Martin Del's character.
His final role was in April of 2015, where he came back on the middle,
along with Dick Van Dyke.
So...
Wasn't he the one that they used for the commercials?
You got to get that dollar.
Oh, you got to be quicker than that.
Yeah, I don't know for sure.
I don't think that was him.
I think it just was another war senior actor.
So, our deepest of both of these people's family, friends, and fans.
That being said, let us combine our loves for pop culture and athletics
to get into the pro wrestling talk.
Do you have kids?
Do you have kids?
No, I know of that.
You need a job.
Do you have kids that need vitamins in their life?
Do you have kids that need vitamins in their lives that maybe enjoy gummy?
The shape of a pancake?
I don't know where you're going.
WWE can help you with that.
Because they have released WWE Children's Gummy Multivitamins.
When I was a kid, these are gummies.
They're shaped like both the WWE and Universal Championships.
They come in cherry, grape, and raspberry.
You better not tell me the raspberry is blue.
The grape's purple, so...
L.A.
Get on this.
Get on this now.
I was going to ask if we need to get some for L.A.
Especially if the raspberry is blue.
Alex went for something to the ground.
What's the thing with blue anyways in L.A.?
Don't you start.
L.A. has this thing that they're going to turn the WWE Championship blue
because it's on Smackdown.
Alex is vehemently against this, so they go back and forth.
I'm going to be more against that.
That's why you're talking about the belt showing up blue, white, or whatever.
Yes.
I thought I wasn't the only one who was confused.
So Enzo Amori not going to be in the mixed match challenge,
but he is defending the Cruiserweight Championship tomorrow night.
But did you hear who's going to be doing the announcing
with Corey Graves and Michael Cole for it?
I heard this, but I can't remember it.
That's Phoenix.
That's going to be at the announce table.
Very excited about this.
Your first tag teams have been announced.
Enzo was taken out of it after he felt ill this past week.
The first team announced Alexa Bliss and Braun Strowman.
That video clip that you sent me.
Go out and look for the interview clip.
Is it on.com?
You know, I honestly don't remember.
Somebody sent it to me, but just the idea of you have Charlie Caruso,
who is five foot nothing.
Alexa Bliss was five foot nothing, and then Braun in the middle of them.
But they never raised the camera up to Braun's face.
So it's basically Braun's torso and the curls.
Also, a team that we thought would happen that is now going to happen.
Bobby Rude and Charlotte Flair.
Hashtag team glorious nature.
I'm on board.
I'm on board with this.
Finn Bauer and Sasha Banks announced this week.
Rusev and Lana will be teaming contrary to what Lana said a couple of weeks ago.
And Naya Jax found out she will be teaming with Apollo Crews.
Yes.
She deserves better.
I was going to say he deserves better.
In news that might make Jen Rome happy.
There are Dave Meltzer, who is a guy that he's on the inside of this business.
Yeah.
Is saying that creative has for the time being given up on Bailey.
That's terrible.
Read that today.
So maybe they can repackage or get her a new makeup artist for you.
I don't have anything against her personally.
I've seen some stuff where she interacts with her fans.
So personally, I've got nothing against her.
And I don't want anybody to be without a job.
But if they can do a reboot, I think that might do her some good.
Was Cheryl Crowe once that a change of do you get?
WWE not considering being back to slammies at this time.
Didn't really miss him this year, be honest.
Didn't know that was still a thing.
No, they did him last year.
I just, I don't know.
I'm not even.
But Rusev is of one like three of them.
Probably deserved.
Because remember they did it during Raw and it like ate up.
The only time I remember that mattering was when it became.
Owen Hart's gig.
Multiple times lay me winner.
Bringing the awards down.
Think about the fact we're creeping up on the 20th anniversary of that.
Don't forget this year.
The, uh, the Miz and, uh, Miz down.
Oh, yeah.
Get that one.
Yeah, get that one.
All right, so let's talk about Raw.
Um, 30 women in the rumble.
Might be a bit much.
There's 12 on the roster.
There's more than 12.
Mm-hmm.
Look it up, brother.
I don't know.
There's 14 take away the two champions.
Okay, now I'm seeing where you're going.
So are we just going to unload the NXT gun?
But that still might get us to 20.
Well, you're going to have to, you're really going to have to make a bring people into it.
They're going to have to.
If you're going to get this thing to 30 and I'm going to say right now that starts the pay-per-view.
Oh, absolutely.
The women's will start the pay-per-view.
The men's will end the pay-per-view.
That might even wind up starting on pre-show and ending it.
I hope not.
That needs to be a part of the main car.
I believe it needs to be part of the main car.
But you're also talking about a company who has openly mocked.
But they said it's going to be over the top and all that.
Yeah, the same rules apply.
Yeah, yeah.
And so it's going to be just a song.
So that can't be a pre-show.
But you saw about the blanchard potential signing, correct?
I was just about to say, if I get test of blanchard, I'm good.
But they could bring some people back.
Remember, we see, I want you to think about what you said just said, though, Don.
You can't go too deep into the well because they're going to be held to the same rules.
So somebody like Trish Stratus may not want to be thrown over a top rope.
Leeda, she jumps over them anyway.
Yeah.
I think that's what they're going to have to do, though.
Oh, they're going to have to.
If I get lead on, man.
I mean, they're going to have to.
But it's just going to be interesting who they pull in for this.
I bet Beth Phoenix gets pulled in on that one.
She's a...
I don't think she wants to.
That's the thing.
Well, no, no.
She's the only one big enough that can make a little shit.
I would love it.
Yeah.
I would love to have her part of it.
Oh, yeah.
Because she's a little shit, Hall of Famer.
You know, the Amazon.
Yeah, she's greatness.
So we'll have to see.
Is it just me?
Or was that...
That Oscar Bliss match just weirdly booked?
I feel like it was one of those where they gave it a test run
for no other reason other than to say,
All right.
Are people going to react to this?
But it wasn't well booked, though.
No, it wasn't.
It was beneath both of their skills.
And it wasn't the first time they faced off.
It didn't work in NXT when they tried it.
I don't get it.
And is Bauer really that tall or is Angle really that short?
Angle's not that short.
He just can't stand up anymore.
But like, it made Bauer look like he was like six, two.
And he looks...
They might have had a month.
They might have given him the Tom Cruise box.
That's fair.
Was very impressive.
How Roman over...
How over he was in Miami.
That's the most over I've heard him in a long time.
So thank you.
Thank you, our hometown.
Our hometown.
Just mine, ours.
Our home vicinity.
Yep.
Was a nice camera switch,
but Roman still missed that kick by a mile.
I think a mile might be understanding it.
And...
Our first cruiserweight sighting at the 2-hour 24-minute mark?
That was a thing.
You need to get that back on the ball.
Cedric Alexander deserves better.
Goulette deserves better.
Speaking of which.
Have we lost ROH locally?
Yeah, it's gonna see.
There was no thing on today.
Oh, yesterday.
Because I looked on the guide,
and it wasn't like there was a special event.
I mean, I get it on Nesson,
but I think we may have lost it.
I don't think they had anything,
because all of the guys that work on it were at Russell Kingdom.
There's also...
But they can always throw some.
There was a new episode.
Well, they already...
There was a new episode,
because I watched it on Nesson.
Oh, okay.
In that case then.
Because you had the television title defended.
What happened on that?
It's...
We'll talk about it here.
Okay.
I do love that he said that WWE stands for Walk with Elias.
Whoever came.
Whoever figured that out.
Well played.
I like that.
Still waiting on my Elias savage.
And, boy, we had the wrong lighting for the Samsonite spray tans, didn't we?
I'm calling him that.
I don't care.
I don't know if I miss her out anymore.
Well, at least until tomorrow,
because Ms. comes back tomorrow.
Who is this you're calling that?
The Ms. Arash.
The Ms. Arash.
I'm calling them the Samsonites now.
And so.
But yeah, they're spray tans.
They had the wrong lighting for those spray tans on Monday night.
Can we be considered spray tans?
They're just going to find Krylon Gold.
In other news, congratulations to Kristi Hemi, who has given birth to the quadruplets.
And I'm not being facetious.
That would happen.
Three boys in a girl.
So congratulations to Kristi Hemi and her family.
Did she know is going to have that many kids?
Oh, yeah.
We talked about that.
That's what I thought.
And my thoughts for a fast and safe healing for her?
They say she's doing very well.
Good.
Everybody came through the thing really well.
I mean, anyone who has a baby, I hear it's not easy.
And then you had multiples in there.
And she's not afraid.
She's a tiny girl.
And she gave birth to as many babies that probably weigh the same as she did to start.
That's fair.
She's a tiny little thing.
Her back must have been hurt.
So I can no longer have the excuse, apparently, that I can't watch impact because I found out last night that
you, verse, does have pop TV now.
Welcome to the tour.
I'm sorry.
But L.A.X are you new to or whatever they're calling L.A.X.
They're still calling it L.A.X.
They're new tag champs and Taiji Ishimori is your new X division champ.
Who's the champ right now?
Which one?
Eli Drake.
It's the big champ, right?
Well, the argument is it's still unclear with those.
It's because you have champion and then grand champion and neither one of them makes sense.
So, and Jay Dutt has just had surgery on his right Achilles.
Ouch.
So he's out for a while.
Lashley may be coming home.
I saw that.
But apparently, I didn't know that his departure was a little strained.
So.
What do you do now?
What do you do now?
Yes.
Really?
But did you also know that right now there's only two TNA originals left and do you know who they are?
Well, you just mentioned one of them didn't you?
No, I did not.
I've not mentioned either one.
No, Sanjay was not original.
I thought he was.
No, he came in.
He was in OVW.
Wow.
No way you get one of them.
You might get one of them.
I don't know that you don't know.
You know, let's just roll with it.
We're already running time.
Abyss?
Okay.
Abyss.
And Jeremy Borach.
Borach.
He was there from day one.
He counts.
Yes, but it's like semantics.
It counts.
R.O.H.
We talked last week how R.O.H.
unveiled their new world title.
They have overhauled all of the belts.
Yes.
And they all look great.
Fantastic.
Big fan of all.
Was Dalton on the last episode?
Yes, he was.
He opened the show.
Cut a promo.
And Jay Lethal came down.
Why do I feel like Dalton?
To go back and watch the opening segment of R.O.H.
Because Lethal comes down.
And he's like, I want to be at the top of the list.
You know what?
Let's sit down and discuss this.
So one of the boys gets on all fours and Dalton sits on his back.
The other one does the same thing for Lethal and Lethal.
It's just like, oh, I don't know.
She like takes, she like takes out a towel.
She like pops up the back of the boys.
She like pops up the back of the boys.
It's down.
You know something like that had to happen after what we saw.
Oh, yes, absolutely.
At the lethal castle.
Ah, let's see.
Women of honor tournament starts January the 20th in Nashville.
January the 20th, I will be at a wrestling event here locally.
Gas Monkey is hosting a wrestling event.
Sting's gonna be.
I was going to say, Abyss is going to be at that one as well.
And so is MVP.
January 20th, as I just said, 20 seconds.
At Gas Monkey.
We will check something out.
All right, Susan.
I mean, I've got a front of the show Brent Peoples bought me a ticket.
So I'll be there regardless.
But just do, do, do, do.
And their streaming service is going to be called Honor Club.
I don't know how I feel about that.
Yeah.
The beer city bruiser has resigned with ROH.
Seriously?
Well, on your current television champion has not.
His deal ran out new years even.
He doesn't have a new contract.
And he said on Twitter that he's officially a free agent.
Oh, wow.
And he's your television champ right now.
Yeah.
Shayna Basler, debuted, is debuting on NXT this coming week.
Is it Basler?
Because it's...
Okay.
Because I remember her UFC days on the ultimate fighter.
Okay.
Rumors of Carmella in big cast being done.
I saw the...
She has removed any mention of him from her social media
and is no longer following him.
We still got to get her out of a onesie and into something better.
Yes.
I don't like what they're putting her in.
And rumors now that it's not Shayne going heal on SmackDown.
Did you not watch SmackDown?
I did.
But I saw that as a red herring.
But now it's getting more traction.
That'll be Daniel Bryan turning in that shit.
I think you're going with...
I just don't think you need both Shayne and Stephanie heal.
One of them always has to work face.
Because that sibling rival of rethink
should always be there in my opinion.
But then again, nobody wants to give me the book
and the checkbook for a year.
So let's talk SmackDown just a couple quick notes.
That tag title match was a strange thing.
Yeah.
I was like, wow, that has...
Here's my notes.
That tag title match happened quickly.
Oh, and then that happened.
Yeah.
It's just exactly what...
I even texted Jen when that happened.
I was like, wow, that was...
Okay, I've been waiting on...
Wait a minute.
What's the other guy doing?
And in the...
It gave me the book and the checkbook a year for a year category.
That's Sarah Logan girl.
Should have been Sister Abigail.
Yeah.
That hit me this week.
I'm like, she should have been Sister Abigail.
The tattooed girl or whatever.
No.
No.
The country girl that hangs out with Ruby.
Ruby writes who you're thinking.
Okay, okay.
The one you let Bray talk for her and then just let her laugh behind.
Also, what was going on with her face?
We need a general report on the makeup.
I haven't seen yet.
You've told me, but I haven't seen evidence yet.
Front page book.
All right.
Or what was it?
Steven described Page's makeup as Cheryl Blossom 2.0.
Oh.
He's right.
He's not wrong.
He's right.
Page.
They've got too much makeup on Page for his beautiful girl.
She is.
It's just.
Well, it's like, okay.
She's not white enough.
They're basically just covering her and white out.
Oh, and speaking of, speaking of pale.
Can the bar sue Ford right now?
Because yeah, have you been watching the new commercials?
No, I haven't.
Yeah.
They don't set the bar.
They are the bar.
Oh, I did see that.
Give me infringement.
I'm just saying.
Give me infringement.
Either that or, you know, set me up on dates with the boys and I won't call it a
gimmick and infringement.
All right.
Let's move on.
Do some movie talk because we're running a little bit behind who's got, we're doing best
of and worst of tonight.
Thank you for joining us.
We're here live every Sunday night.
Not next week.
Come hang out with us next week at Profitbar and Dallas and deep LM and watch me go make a full
of myself on stage for 30 minutes with four guys that are way more talented than I am.
You have all your own.
We're going to have a good time.
Box office numbers.
Let's get into it as soon as I learn how to use a computer.
I don't know what's going on here.
Perfectly timed.
Okay.
Yes.
Because I forgot to mute my computer.
All right.
Coming, dropping out of the top 10 this week.
Oh, I didn't realize I was in movie talk music.
Let's see.
Downsizing drops from 9 to 14.
Put the obvious joke in there.
$2.1 million, $3 weeks, $23 million, $68 million, budget.
Did anybody see that?
I did not.
I want to apologize to you.
Man, damning.
We've got friends that sell it from work.
Okay.
Dropping from...
What was that?
Oh, number 10.
Father figures drops from 10 to 17.
You called that bomb.
Yeah.
$1.2 million, $3 weeks, $17 million.
I do not have a budget.
Most of what I have this week doesn't have a budget on it.
Box office mojo.
I don't think it's getting their stuff updated in enough time.
But we still love people.
Everybody at Box office mojo for even giving us these numbers at all.
Dropping from 7 to 10 this week.
We like to call it iTunes Exclusive 337.
All the money in the world, don't check this out.
$3.5 million, $2 weeks, $20.1 million.
By the way, isn't tonight the Golden Globes?
Yeah.
Yes, it is.
So we'll have a report next week on that.
Coco drops from 6 to 9 this week.
$5.5 million, $7 weeks, $192 million.
Great film.
iTunes Exclusive 332.
Darkest Hour stays at 8.
This is one that's on my radar.
I have a screener.
I need to watch it.
Charles was very excited.
She wants to see it as well.
$6.4 million, $7 weeks, $28.4 million.
Molly's game jumps from 13 to 7 this week.
It's back into the top 10.
Wow.
That's because it went wide release.
I thought it went wide Christmas day.
Was it?
Okay, sorry.
I'm getting confused with the other one I watched.
Okay.
Another $7 million has made $14.2 million.
It gained 1,300 theaters.
So it may have gone wider.
Yeah, it's an excellent movie.
So Ferdinand drops from 5 to 6 with Don's favorite actor in it.
$7.7 million, $4 weeks, $70.5 million, $111 million budget.
I'm that one.
That one went right by, I didn't it.
Third man.
I mean, that's at the...
I can't think of that one.
Oh, that one.
That's what I thought.
Did you really just think of anybody else?
Update for your Golden Globes.
Yes, sir.
Your boy won best performance by an actor in a supporting role in any motion picture.
The Sam Rockwell.
Three billboards outside Ebbing Missouri.
Yes.
We're going to talk about it here in a minute.
Pitch Perfect 3 drops from the bronze medal to fifth place this week.
$10.2 million, $3 weeks, $86 million on a $45 million budget.
They are well on their way to making money on that.
The greatest showman sits at fourth place.
$13.8 million, $3 weeks, $75.9 million on an $84 million budget.
So they're doing okay.
That's going to keep making money.
The last Jedi finally gets dethroned.
It drops from the gold medal to the bronze medal this week.
Another $23.6 million.
$5 weeks, $573 million.
How's Disney feeling about that investment?
Feeling pretty good.
In City, it's the last key.
iTunes exclusive 340 debuts in the bronze medal position.
$29.3 million.
That's a $10 million budget.
They made their money.
Yeah, they always do with those films.
And jumping from the silver medal to the gold medal this week.
Jumanji, welcome to the jungle.
$36 million.
Three weeks, almost a quarter of a billion dollars on a $90 million budget.
We saw that on Christmas.
What did you think?
It was what it was.
I don't think it was as good as the first, but it was okay.
We're going to talk about it in somebody's list.
I'm hearing a lot of people like the second one better than the first one.
I'm still kind of old school on that, but still I kind of like it.
I like to.
I just hope that you can compare this to the other two.
You can.
It's so different.
It's so very different.
All right, so rumors.
We talked a couple of weeks ago that Ryan Johnson getting his own Star Wars trilogy.
After the last Jedi, rumors is they're going to start filming in June.
Oh, wow.
They're ready to get the ball moving.
And did we get any rumors leaning more towards these way in the future?
Way in the past?
Not sure what we need.
They're not saying anything about what it's going to be.
I'm still hoping older public.
We mentioned earlier about Netflix renewing.
She's got to have it.
The star of that Dewanda Wise has joined Captain Marvel.
So with the Brie Larson.
That's a big one.
Jack Black may be returning for the Goosebumps sequel.
I enjoyed that film.
Yes, so did I.
I enjoyed that film very much.
More than I should.
And of course, but Chad hated it.
Let's put this Jack Black.
Yeah, I know.
And Netflix has ordered a sequel to Bright.
Boy, the chasm between the critics and the fans.
Have you seen this?
No, I haven't.
Oh, I like it.
On Rotten Tomatoes.
I liked it.
I enjoyed it for what it was.
Critics on Rotten Tomatoes are rating Bright.
Let me pull it up.
It's got to be in here somewhere.
Like, I'm checking out to look it up because it wouldn't be under box office numbers.
Hold on one second here.
I forgot that Noomi repaces in that.
Audience score 87%.
Critics score 28%.
But they've ordered a sequel.
So it does a lot of things right.
But they fit too much into a smaller package.
Fair enough.
The next installment for Cloverfield was going to be called God Particle.
It's more of a space adventure kind of a thing.
So it pushed back to April the 20th.
So you got that going.
Ridley Scott, don't pay attention.
Ridley Scott is in talks to direct a series of movies for Disney called The Merlin Saga.
I mean, it sounds interesting.
But once the last aliens must have.
They're saying nothing right now.
Really?
Not even on a plate right now.
We mentioned something last week.
And something we mentioned last week is now coming to fruition.
Last week we talked about the Criterion Collection releasing the Breakfast Club.
And I've seen the extras.
And look, there's a lot of cool extras on it.
I mentioned two titles that the Criterion Collection has done that have never been released on Blu-ray.
That I've thought were both a travesty that they've never been released on Blu-ray.
That list is now down to one.
I'm so glad someone listens to this show.
February 13th.
Silence of the Lams.
We'll get a Blu-ray Criterion Collection release.
Nice.
Cool.
So I saw that.
I was like, why don't we time that really well?
You know, but it's going to have a 4K rest.
Yes, it's out there.
If you go to Amazon right now, it's out there.
4K Restoration.
Just like they did with the Breakfast Club.
And all the extras from the DVD will be on there.
Not a Cups didn't have one.
So what do I have?
You know what?
And I appreciate you not doing that because that means I don't have to carry sharp objects in the studio to throw it to.
Moving you into places, you see moving you releases this week, the post.
You will hear, at least read, if not here, our thoughts on it this week.
So yeah, you saw the cover art for shots of the Lams.
It is.
It looks good.
Beautiful.
Pattings in two.
I'm bummed that we didn't get to screen this, but I'm very much looking forward to it because I enjoyed the first one very, very much.
I'm excited about it.
The commuter.
Liam Neeson.
Continuing to kick people's butts.
He has a very special set of skills.
That's my Liam Neeson.
It's not very good.
We'll be screening that on Tuesday.
You'll get our thoughts on that.
Proud Mary, the new Taraji P. Henson film, releases this week.
Do you get a black dynamite feel from that one as well?
It's what it is.
It's an homage to things like coffee and foxy brown and Cleopatra Jones.
Apparently, I want to say it's the Alamo is doing a series and they're going to be showing coffee this week.
Oh, cool.
So I'm a big fan of the black exploitation films.
When I managed a blockbuster, I rented all three of the shafts films in successive weeks.
Because I love those movies.
I just do.
They're good movies.
I have an unhealthy reason why I started watching those and it was because of the great white hype.
Now I will tell you that what I think of the original 1972 shaft, it always makes me think of the Simpsons.
Because if you remember the episode where Homer thought he was going to die because he ate the pufferfish.
While they're in the restaurant eating the pufferfish, Lisa and Bart are doing karaoke in a different sort of the Japanese bar.
And Bart is singing theme from shaft on karaoke.
Oh, it's so great.
Now also out this week, a movie called Lover for a Day.
A young woman returns home after the breakdown of a relationship to discover her father is dating a woman her age.
So you got that going for you?
I saw that pierced process thing we saw or whatever.
I'll pass on that one.
Was that one we saw in the French film?
That figured.
Also this, are you talking about the only living boy in New York?
Yeah.
Also a movie called Saturday Church.
A 14 year old boy struggling with gender identity and religion begins to use fantasy to escape his life in the inner city and find passion in the process.
And a movie called Acts of Violence.
Let's see.
Unsurprising fellow.
Lonnie's asking how does Jody Foster feel about the silence of the Lambs blockbuster that have ruined films for the general public?
I'm not sure what the question you're asking there is brother.
Yeah, we're going to be following that one.
Because if you remember, that movie was released on Valentine's Day.
Yeah.
The original silence of the Lambs.
It's a good date movie.
And that's so early to get the Oscar thing the next year.
Do you get the Oscar thing the next year?
Well, that's counting.
But I'm thinking if you've got someone next to you and you want to cuddle up with her.
If she's spooked, she's going to cuddle up.
Why is it got to be her?
What do you mean?
Good point.
Good point.
If one party of the relationship gets spooked, they're probably going to cuddle up to the other party.
So also this week a movie called Acts of Violence.
When his fiance is kidnapped by human traffickers, Ronin, played by Ashton Holmes and his ex-military brothers,
set out to track her down and savor before it's too late.
Along the way, Roman teams up with Avery, played by Bruce Willis, a cop investigating human trafficking
and fighting the corrupted bureaucracy that has harmful intentions.
A lot of bullets.
Cole Hauser is in this, Sean Ashmore is in this.
A Sean Brosden.
I don't know if there's any religion there.
Sophia Bush is in this.
Mike Epps.
Random.
So there's that.
The DVD and Blu-ray, the DVD and Blu-ray new releases this week.
It.
Isn't that the...
I saw it.
Isn't that the Chris Jericho documentary?
No.
Yes!
I nailed it.
You didn't catch him when I saw it.
I did.
Yeah.
But you were in the middle of my jokes.
I couldn't have found your joke.
But I actually didn't see the movie.
So...
It wasn't what it was.
Creepy.
I thought it was good.
Yeah.
And the other end of that spectrum, my little pony, the movie, released this week on Blum TV.
Yeah.
Well played.
And they hit the market about the same dog.
Yes, they did.
The foreigner, the Jackie Chan Pierce Brosden film.
Uh-huh.
The Donald B. You saw this.
Get done saw that.
Yeah.
Let's see.
That was iTunes exclusive 324.
As a matter of fact, Alex has his hand up.
Sean Brosden is the son of Pierce.
There you go.
Um, Marshall.
Which was the story of Thurgood Marshall.
The movie brothers reviews that.
They liked it very, very much.
Um, Mark felt the man who brought down the White House.
That was out recently.
That's available this week.
November criminals.
We talked about that film recently with the kids with the clothes and the hair of the Ansel Elgorts in that.
Uh, a movie called Bullethead.
That's two words.
Not one.
That was just recently, uh, in theaters.
Like, within the last couple of months.
Let me pull up.
If I can get my computer to help me out here.
That's Adrian Brody and John Malkovich are in this.
Three career criminals find themselves trapped in a warehouse with the law closing in.
And even worse threat waiting inside a nigh unstoppable killer dog.
Uh-huh.
That's going for you.
Uh, a kids movie called So Be It.
Uh, let's see.
John Hurd is in this and just send a berid from her.
Wasn't she a girl from the real world?
Not just in the berid, the Australian girl.
A young girl named Heidi who lives with her mentally disabled mother travels across the country to find out about her and her mother's past.
Directed by Steven Jill and Hall.
And the criterion collection release this week is Young Mr. Lincoln, the John Ford film.
Oh.
Couple of tech corner items this week.
Microsoft has discontinued the Connect adapter for newer consoles.
And the sound you have is nobody cares.
And the Nintendo Switch is now the fastest selling console in US history.
4.8 million sold since March 3rd.
I've heard a lot of good things based on the portability.
Beat the Wii by 800,000 sold in that same time frame.
Because you don't want to beat it by an inch.
And they probably had more of one.
Wow.
They probably had more available for purchase.
That was one of the problems with the Wii is there weren't enough out there.
That is true.
Alright kids.
Are we ready to get into the reason you called tonight?
Because it is time for the mega list.
Every year our first show of the year we do our best up and worst up 2017.
We're going to talk stage productions mainly Don and I will be.
And we're going to be talking films because we do review both on this show if you've never joined us before.
I have seen 13 stage productions in 2017 and I have seen 75 films.
So, I'll say he saw 44.
And I wasn't even in on this until...
Don, where do you want to start?
Let's do stage of course.
Stage of course.
Okay, so how many stage productions did you get to see this year?
I think about 12.
Because I did the thing in San Antonio.
Let's say this out front.
Just because a production or a film rates in our bottom half of our list or whatever that bottom measurement number is.
It doesn't mean necessarily they were bad.
Now worst film of the year, still worst film of the year.
But I want to say that because we saw such amazing stuff this past year.
Even like my lowest ranked production was still a good show.
It just wasn't as good as the 12th of it.
I only have one that I want to put on the worst.
Okay, go ahead.
Okay.
And you're going to disagree with me on this one.
As I know I do.
I even made it, said it when we did the audio review.
I was so looking forward to it and when it came out it just...it didn't work.
I mean it came in Paris.
That was the worst of the year for me.
I remember when we talked about it it was just the story was lock lock lock.
It was not much into it.
Well for me that wound up right in the middle of a list of number eight.
So do you want to do the top five for the state?
We do the top five.
We do that.
Well I'll put the ones in the between that we don't talk about tonight.
I'm going to put those on my blog.
So if you go to blog spot dot your uncle B dot com.
Or is it your uncle B dot blog spot dot com?
Something like that.
You can link to it.
You guys will get to it on our website.
www dot the clubhouse podcast dot com go to blogs and you'll find my blog there.
But what was your least favorite of the year?
The Christians.
This is one that I saw over in the Turtle Creek area.
Again it wasn't a bad it was a great production.
I like that.
It just wasn't as good as the 12 above it.
You know and we had a great discussion with a local pastor after this was the story of a mega church
where the pastor preaches a very very controversial sermon
where he basically says hell doesn't exist.
And how and how it divides his church.
Well no he's about the Muslim who did a good act who said that led him to the belief that God told him that hell is in a thing.
But how a Muslim can make it to heaven even on the Christian belief you have to be saved by Jesus.
He's still an excellent production just not as good as the 12 above.
Not being my number six.
Well okay.
So you want me to go from my number five?
Number five please.
One home.
I didn't get to see that so I couldn't like it.
But I really liked that one a lot.
Good subject.
This was based on a book basically a story of a young lady at three different points of her life and embracing who she is.
Yes.
And how her family reacted.
My number five was hood the Robin Hood musical adventure.
Yeah.
This is so much fun.
It's a brand new production that was put on by the Wiley Theater this year this past year.
It's if money Python did the Robin Hood story is really the only way I can describe this.
It's what I want to see.
It's so much fun.
When you walk in the curtain is actually a timeline of all of the tellings of the tales all the way up through the Ridley Scott Russell Crowe movie.
It's pretty cool.
Number four.
When we saw this the Fantastic Faith Ford who was my girlfriend at the time.
She loved it.
She was smiling.
She was dancing in her seat.
She was moving.
Let it be.
Let it be was my number nine.
Oh really?
Yeah.
Because I enjoyed it very very much.
Don't get me wrong.
Yeah.
But again such great.
And then I actually put this below in American pairs.
Really?
Yeah.
Because it was just they sounded so well and when they did the my guitar gently weeps I said oh it was an amazing performance.
Yeah.
For me because it wasn't a true musical it didn't rank as well for me.
Okay.
I enjoyed it very very much.
I would see it again in a heartbeat.
But no I agree.
My number four.
Stop.
That's my number two.
This was something for me.
My number two.
This was a bullet.
This was a bucket list production.
My mom saw it when I was a kid and she loved it.
They absolutely destroyed it at Music Hall at Fair Park.
Very much.
Actually I ended up following a couple of cast members on social media.
I think one of them follows me now.
Yeah.
Really really enjoyed this production of it.
Always fascinated by the concept of stomp.
I somewhere on VHS I have the HBO special they did in the like how they make music.
Yeah.
So that was your number two.
Yeah.
Number two.
What's your number three?
The curious incident of the dog in the nighttime.
Number seven for me.
This is a production.
I was actually just talking about this production yesterday.
This is a different kind of production.
It's about a kid who is on the autism spectrum.
And he discovers that his neighbor's dog has been murdered.
And so he decides he's going to be an amateur sleuth and try to solve this murder
while at the same time preparing to try to get into a more advanced class in his school.
The entire stage is set up in a perfect cube because it is supposed to reflect his brain,
basically.
You left it a little earlier than you should have because there's a piece of it at the very, very end.
Yeah.
But don't, yeah.
Yeah.
If you go to see this, don't leave when the lights come up.
That's all I'm going to tell you.
It's a really, really well done production.
And it is based off of a book.
Yes.
Which I've read the book.
But yeah, definitely see that it's a different kind of musical.
Yeah.
It's really well done.
There are certain moments that are kind of sensory overload.
I think you're going to go on that.
Yeah.
But I, you standpoint.
Number three for me, circus 1903.
That's my number one.
It was your favorite of the air.
Wow.
Without a doubt.
Circus 1903 is nothing short of amazing.
It's basically, it's exactly what it says it is.
It's a tribute to the circus.
There's no real storyline to it.
You're basically going to a circus and seeing all these different acts.
And it's, they have a fully, a full-sized elephant that's actually moved by people.
It's like a huge puppet.
But some of the acrobatics and stuff is just amazing.
And that, it was something new, something different.
And I just enjoyed, there was a one moment where I felt like this would come on.
Let's get this going or anything like that.
Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
Number two for me.
You did not see.
Because I was in either Houston or Santa.
You were in Houston at that time.
Yeah.
I know it's highly production of hair.
That would be my number one.
You were there.
I only saw two shows.
That was my number one.
So much fun, fully interactive, fully immersive.
And the full Monty.
So be prepared if you ever see it.
The full Monty happens at the end of act one.
I liked how the band was in the middle and the round.
I also liked finding out later that there were a couple of moments that were different every night.
Which we, you know, again, hindsight being what it is.
And one thing that got me with the being in the round.
It was like a circle was cut out that kind of went lower,
which reminded me of the older, like the 78s,
where you had to put the piece in to make it fit on the,
to me visually that just kind of fit with the time period.
The crew at the while we did such an amazing job with this.
And it was just like, it was everything it should have been.
And I think I know your number one.
I was gone.
I was able to see that.
Because I think I was saying to me.
Where are you?
I will.
Oh, wait.
Is that Whitney Houston?
Yeah.
No bodyguard.
The bodyguard is actually number six.
Wow.
Okay.
You were there for my number one production of the year at the wind spear opera house this past year.
A little production called something rotten.
Really?
This was my favorite production we saw last year.
Because I didn't know what to expect going into it.
It is a musical that basically just takes shots at other musical with eight.
That was my number seven.
Really?
Such a great piece.
Oh, I loved it.
Don't be wrong.
It was loved.
It's so much.
It's fun.
There's an entire sequence where they just take shot after shot after shot at other musicals.
Yeah.
And it's completely out of polygenic.
And something rotten.
It's a lot of fun.
You have to check it.
If you're any form of a theater fan, you have to check this out when it comes to your town.
All right.
Now let's get to the big dog.
Don, let's go to the bottom of the list.
And we're actually going to go around the room because everybody has done their own.
Let me ask Jen and Alex.
Do you guys have a bottom list and a top list?
He is saying yes.
Yes.
This is an audio medium.
Oh no.
Oh no.
Okay.
Jen.
Jen.
Oh no, no, no.
But I do separate it in the top.
Just like here.
Do you have your golden turkey in your silver trophy?
I see two movies.
I've got them all right.
Okay.
So we're going to do bottom 10, top 10.
Okay.
All right.
Let's start with...
How done?
How do you want to do this?
You want to save the worst for the end of the bottom 10?
Yeah, yeah.
We always start from 10 and go to the golden turkey.
So start with your 10th least favorite film of the year.
Gen.
Rome Go.
Kingsman 2.
Really?
Wow.
Wait.
Can we clarify that you mean the 10 worst list, correct?
We're at worst.
Okay.
So you had the golden circle.
Really?
Wow.
I have the golden circle at 27.
But I've only seen 22 movies.
Yeah.
That's fair.
But that puts it about the middle of my lens.
Right.
The middle of half.
It's 27.
You know, it's still top 30 for me.
That's like 25.
You know.
And I did get it on DVD.
Blu-ray.
All right.
I'm going to show my mom the fight scene before we go to...
Do you still have your...
Do you still have your...
Your...
Mine's on my desk.
Mine's on my car.
Mine's on my desk.
Mine's on my car.
Don.
Okay.
Three dishonorable mentions real fast.
The circle, the Tom Hanks, that...
I did not get to see that.
Yeah.
I saw it at a theater.
Okay.
What else?
Friend request I saw on each field.
It's another one I would not see.
And fist fight with the ice cube didn't.
I didn't see that either.
Fist fight was toward the bottom of mine.
All right.
Okay.
But my number 10, which I said I'd made a promise to make my top 10 worst of the year,
was the shape of water because of the scenes with the...
I'm sick.
And I just tell you that it was...
It's been all documented.
If you ever wondered if Chad keeps up with the show, his opinion on the shape of water
is living, breathing, proof, because out of nowhere I got a text one day going.
Did he and I see the same movie?
It's not the first time it happened.
That's true.
No, that's true.
But yeah, Chad completely disagreed with you on that.
Well, it was like...
I don't know what you're saying.
I don't know what you're saying.
All right.
Fair enough.
Alex?
All right.
I'm going to start off on popular opinion.
My 10th least favorite of the year was Jumanji.
Again, I didn't see it.
I can't judge on it.
It's...
Out of 44 though, right?
I will say this though.
So this is 35 out of 44.
Right.
So I will say though, this was a very good year for movies.
Absolutely.
We talked about that last week on the show's announcement.
It's just not on making money.
But...
But...
Jumanji just felt so...
Juvanile to the point.
And I don't want to sound highbrow because I love a good dirty joke at times.
But this was like...
Not worth it.
Just there.
When Jack Black is the funniest part of the movie.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Place a girl.
Just be prepared.
We're running along tonight.
All right.
My 10th least favorite film of the year, I saw a lot of documentaries this year.
I was surprised how many documentaries I've seen this year.
Jeremiah Tower, the last magnificent.
This was a CNN documentary.
I can see that.
About a guy who's a restaurant tour in New York.
And he tried to open a restaurant and then it worked.
And then it didn't work.
And...
He's very Gordon Ramsay-esque.
And it was my least of the...
Oh, so this is your bottom of the list.
That's your golden turkey.
All right.
Okay.
It was good.
Not great.
General.
Oh.
Okay.
We're back to me for...
Yes, we are.
We're going to just all the way around.
And we're going down.
So the next highest number.
John Wick, too.
Wow.
I liked it.
John Wick, too.
I have at...
As you can see, I'm taking my time to try to find it.
No, I like it.
That's my 11th favorite film of the year.
That barely missed my top 10.
This is my 13th.
Yeah.
Okay.
So that's still right in there with you.
Yeah.
Wow.
All right.
Don.
My number nine.
And I love the Michael Penia.
Great guy.
Big fan of the Michael Penia myself.
Well, why he had to do that chip's remake.
You know, I didn't see it.
I saw it on HBO.
It came out this year.
But watching that, it's just like they should not have done all these stupid remakes.
Because that was really kind of excited about that.
Don't.
It's on HBO.
DBR is only for your board.
Okay.
I mean, you know, it just did not work.
You know, I love the Michael Penia.
You know, I do.
I know you do.
It's crazy.
And I like the Dex Shepard as well.
Alex.
I love everybody in this movie, but Kong Skull Island.
I did not see it.
Chad said he enjoyed it very much.
I actually was so bored with it.
I fell asleep during the fight scene.
I had to watch it a second time just to try and get through that.
Did you fall asleep again?
No.
Okay.
Just the first time.
For me, my ninth least favorite film of the year is another documentary
that we saw at the Dallas International Film Festival.
It's called 44 Pages.
It was.
I didn't see it.
And not again, not that it's a bad film.
It's just not great.
It's a documentary about the making of the.
Is it the 40th anniversary issue of highlights for children?
It's called 44 Pages because they've always been 44 Pages.
I think it was the 50th.
It was.
I expected more out of it than I got.
I wanted more really about the history of the magazine.
And it was too much about, oh, this person's their last day.
It was just not enough for me.
General.
Okay.
My next one is going to be the one that you and I saw a battle of the sexes.
Really?
Let me see where I had battle with sexes.
I 36 for me.
Anything you want to add to it or is that what that was?
I mean, in some of these, it's just where they sit because others were just a smidge and better.
Lonnie just made a joke about chips and substituting a couple of letters therein.
Yeah.
All right, Don.
My number eight is because it was just too long.
And so much could have been cut out and a board the heck out of me was 20th century women.
Wow.
Really?
Yeah.
You don't want to remember.
We did the audio.
You went into the room and I have a 54.
Yeah.
I have it.
I have it at 20.
All right.
Yeah.
Alex.
The dark tower.
Did not see it.
It's so much better than it was.
That's my number seven.
It's they bombed it.
I heard that.
Matthew Tonne.
Hang it.
You put them in a 90 minutes.
Yeah.
And Matthew McConaughey literally looks like from the start of the movie like they shot them chronologically through the first 20 minutes.
I am so on board.
All right.
All right.
All right.
The rest of the movie.
All right.
Let's just do this right.
The check.
Hey.
You won't cross over here.
I mentioned.
It was all no.
No.
No.
All right.
All right.
All right.
All right.
No.
If they had focused on McConaughey and Elba Moore, it would probably be.
It would be interesting.
It would be interesting.
Elba.
You said Elba.
You said Elba Moore.
Oh.
Elba.
It focused on Elba.
Elba.
Elba.
I know Melba.
They would have focused on Elba Moore.
They would have focused on the two.
We couldn't see the calm.
For me.
And really 68 doesn't do this film justice.
The director emailed me.
And he was like, hey man.
Would you check out my movie and review it?
This is an example of.
This was such a great year for film that any other year this film would be a lot taller
on the list.
It's called Road to the Well.
It's about.
A couple of friends.
Who one of them is kind of down on his luck and winds up with.
On a hookup.
And the hookup ends up getting murdered.
And they got to find out who did it.
And it's got some great twists in it.
It's a very independent film.
Again, such a strong year for film.
I really enjoyed this film.
Probably, if I go back and read it, my list would probably be a little bit higher than it is now.
But I'm locked in, so I'm going to roll with it.
But I still recommend it.
Again, great year for film.
This one just kind of got lost in the shuffle for me.
General, let's go to the next round.
Professor Marston and the Wonder Woman.
Oh.
That's an HSO right there.
I had this film at...
Oh, I think I passed it.
Nope, I didn't.
I had this film at...
Did I forget this one?
I may have forgotten to put this one on my list.
And I can understand that.
If somewhere in there.
I enjoyed this film, especially when you pair it with the...
Oh, I have it at 48.
That's where I had it.
I mean, and again, my list is so short that some of these that are in the middle of yours are going to be at the end of my life.
Very true.
When you pair this with the Robert Kirkman Secret History of Comics episode about that.
Yeah.
It's interesting how some things were left out of one, but some things were left out of the other.
It's kind of interesting you pair them with that.
Well, and if you hear the interviews from the family, how much was fiction versus reality?
True.
According to the family, which are the grandchildren.
Done.
My number seven was the Dark Tower, which we say to her.
Okay, yeah.
Alex.
Triple X, the return of Xander.
Oh, you watched this thing.
God.
God bless you, sir.
Oh, no.
No, no.
I...
It brought me on.
It suckered me in within like the first 12 minutes, and I was like, okay.
They're going to do something like this.
I'm totally on board.
And then never go back to it.
There are so many people to light.
Spoil it.
Just spoil it.
No, just don't.
Just don't.
That's going to be worth to talk about it longer.
Safari hunting the hunters.
Moving on.
For me, we're down to an animated film.
Which, again, as I'm looking at my list, I'm like, I can't believe this is this low, but I get it at the same time.
Rock dog.
I enjoy it.
You liked it.
Animated film about a dog who wants to be a musician, but he has to fight his way through it.
It's one of, it was kind of indie, but kind of not.
I liked it.
But again, so many great movies this year.
Now, after the next one, we're getting to the bottom of the well.
I want you to know that.
All right.
General, go.
Spider-Man Homecoming.
See?
Never saw it.
I have this.
I have this one at 38.
So right in the middle of a pack for me.
Yeah, 16 of 22.
You want the hot take on this one?
I like him.
I liked him.
I thought there was a lot of unnecessary exposition in it.
I can't say that I don't disagree with you having it that low on your list.
I didn't need the twist in that film.
Again, this has been ceted to Marvel.
Yeah, I can't tell you that.
Yes, it's a very sad release.
It's a sad release.
BJ Eagles.
And I already had to copy him.
You went to a lot of weird movies, so hekyam,
you told me how you were doing.
But you put Michaelч come to the community.
It's just about everything I'm in.
I like, I mean, I liked it.
I'm not saying it was a bad film.
It's just, I saw most of the movies I saw this year were good.
I watched this on hb only came out this year you better
Because I watched it later because she wanted to see it. Uh-huh stupid smut movie part two 50 shades darker
I watched that don't speak out to the universe with the third chapters on its way. I know I did it for my wife
And yes, it is that bad plain simple they get engaged there. We go. There's the story
Loyal or alert even though the poster for the new ones as Mrs. Gray will see you now
And the books were I mean come on Alex
Resident evil the final oh dear God sir
You know where you just a glutton for punishment. What is going on here? Yes, I was here mother of the holy one
You think this is bad. We're still going oh so my okay, so now before we hit the doldrums because again
A lot of this have good not great. This is the last film that I can say I enjoyed and I think I'm one of
17 people on the planet that enjoyed this film something a song
20 people say it
Allegedly and somebody I want to say it was you that asked me about this recently and
I was like no, I liked that film and you were like what?
We go into the to the career of one
Damien. Oh Lonnie said he thought he was going to see a different movie when he saw a typo of turvilex way more disappointed
That's my boy right there
The great wall. I liked it
bottom. I liked it. I can't say I loved it, but I liked it for what it was
This apparently crazy that we get but still I was in homage to the old
Action adventure swashbuckling films. No, I can't I like I enjoyed it. I enjoyed this film. I again
It's at 70 out of 75, but I I really did enjoy it. I'm not ashamed to say it
Genroam here. We go. We're in the bottom half of the bottom half
So I did one film stars don't die in Liverpool
You saw that recently it limited release this year. It's going or last year. It's going why you saw it last year
We're counting that you did have a phenomenal write-up on it. I mean it was again. It was an enjoyable movie. It was a good movie, but
My tops just did better for me done
My number five. It's the first time ever this is gonna happen
If movie I thought that dip is gonna make my bottom 10 it was one that you missed okay, who streets?
Yeah, that got wide release this year as well, but please don't by the way
I was told to tell you to give you a high five for bad movie watcher of the year
Oh, I know we're talking to you or Alex
I got some more that we're gonna yeah, but who streets that was this was a documentary about there about a lot of the protests
That happened black lives matter. Yeah, some people are saying well, you know
The the rating the stores and setting Baltimore and fire
It was we're not condone because we've been so it was just
Put it to preachy for you
Don't don't don't don't don't don't all right Alex
Pirates of the Caribbean dead men tell no I had this at
49 and it's gonna be my next okay, I saw it today and I pulled it this was one of those like I
Really was hoping that this was gonna wrap it up and then you get to the tag after the credits and you're like
Are you currently yeah, and it's another one where it's like how big was the check they wrote
They're making money on it so they have to anyways. Oh, I don't blame anybody for making money, but
Disney for making that
Here we go now we're getting into the I'm ready to throw something at the screen films and we start our money is down for
We started August
With a film that I now use when I do my training classes when I have to explain the term suspension of disbelief I know this one
It's a film that I went into under duress because again, I as I always say I like this
We have to go see we we can invite it to see films and we can't just pick the films that were interested
We need to go to as many screens as possible to support our vendors. Yes, except in Sidious
No, well, there's but I won't subject myself to
Yeah, I don't like beyond horror when I have personal feelings about a genre that's different
Yeah, when it's a movie that I'm just like I know I'm not gonna like this film, but I'm gonna go because I want to support our vendors
It's like how we bury. I'm talking to you
I come like that. I'm okay. No, no. Oh, no. Oh, that's scary. Kidnap is number 71 on the list
This is on star. This is yeah, this is 90 minutes of my life. I will never get back
Plot holes big enough to drive a truck through and how she had was a minivan
Just on star and I'm doing the spoiler the whole thing with the GPS. Oh now it works
Yeah, we've been at that
Lonnie says pirate to the Caribbean makes him wish he was a dead man
He's on fire. He is on fire. Genro
I had said Pirates was my
Okay, done my number four. I rented this as a glutton for punishment to really see if it was gonna be that bad
And it was that bad
The emoji movie I
Objected my ear got you did that you even you took a trip to text town are you kidding me?
It is that bad
Oh
Now did you like I've been bad enough that that Alex sat through triple X the return of zander came
I saw stupid smut movie part two. So no watch the emoji. Just it's steep. It was that bad. Yeah
You know, I almost submitted myself to that just so I'd have something at the bottom. I couldn't do it
And it's it's thinking it's that's my number four. I got worse. Oh
Alex your number four underworld blood wars
Well, they have to see that. No, they didn't do that. They didn't scream that one. Yeah, I wouldn't you know what I love
K back and sell how you doing I love I love Charles dance. I love K back at sale
It's so bad where you have K back and sale and you have daddy Lannister in a movie and it's still that bad
For me, this was when I saw the Dallas International Film Festival
It's not bad as much as it is confusing. It's called Davion
See that one. It's about a kid who lives. I want to say it's in Alabama
He he's he's a young African-American kid who is torn between
Trying to get on the right path and being in a gang and there's weird symbolism with bees in it's and
Is it like a prequel to Candyman? God, I hope not
Only movie I ever walked out of almost got sick watching was Candyman, and I think it's because I didn't eat anything for him is
Wanting wants to know why someone did not kidnap him from watching from the theater while watching kidnap that's a fair question
But Davion it's just weird. It's kind of artsy, but it's kind of not
What's that to do? It was at the distance here. I mean, I could see where it wanted to go. It just never got there for me
General we are now into the bronze medal for worst film of your year and we have people who are gonna totally disagree with me on this
That's what we do the disaster artist
Wow, okay, you thought I was upsetting last couple years with
Episode for the remake make a mind and the you stop it. Yeah, stop it. You stop it right now
We're gonna go to the other end of the spectrum for the disaster of it for me
This is your bronze medal winner for the least favorite wow
I'm gonna have to marinate on that done my bronze turkey
This film that I like screen, but I didn't and I missed it because I wanted to see it
There was either good or bad on this film
But when I saw it I rented it because it looked like hey it was gonna be something that and I
Saw it and I go now I understand the bad
47 meters down I
Hated that thing the ending you're like what?
Because there's either people that loved it or hated it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I hated this thing and what it does for sharks and
And this this film is kind of right up your alley
Yeah, and the thing is when you're down 47 meters you only have 10 minutes before you get in a nitrosickness
And you're gonna die for down there for two hours ain't happening
Maybe they're
Suspension disbelief. This is what time they had super powers
It is that bad. It's making my bronze turkey good mercy Alex
This one takes a takes the cake just for hating my childhood
Transformers the last I cannot believe you subjected yourself to this so I warned you
What somebody doesn't understand is it's not only a terrible movie
It is two and a half hours of a terrible movie that then has a five-minute scene to set up the next one
Well, it's because they said this is gonna be a trilogy
It's a good transforming the bond
All right, my bronze medal, which is actually kind of ironic that this is the bronze medal for worse film of the year
We go back down and take some
All right, all right, I'm about my mom con hay doing a movie about so that both be a true story that
Man, he had a lot potential and just did gold
This is
The story of a guy who's down on his luck true story and he allegedly finds a
A gold mine where nobody else can find it
Yeah, based on a true story now
As I said 20 seconds ago, thanks for paying attention done
Well, I just want to but yeah, yeah, it's just yeah, not that great. Yeah, what's it called gold gold?
That's right because he loves gold. Okay, I'm a day way
All right, all right. Yeah, I'm gonna get you back. I go. I got sick. I got sick. Do you find some gold be a lot better if you did all right
Silver medal worst film of the year general. Here we go. We already said it was the 20th century woman
Wow, that's amazing
I didn't say it's a great film. I enjoyed it. I got the movie get my cut out. I
enjoyed it done
I hated that this one. I subject to myself too. I love the rock. I love the rock
But he why he did this one and I rented this because there's a big fat check
It is that bad especially the morgue scene where they grab a guy's whoo-hoo
Baywatch is that what you think it doesn't matter what you think that's my bronze turkey
I mean my silver turkey. It is that bad and people hate it now
I know why and I subject just give it a chance because I love the rock that really see if it's that bad
It's my silver turkey Alex
The first movie you ever gave me crap for
Geostorm. Oh
You subjected to you put out this. Hey, this was under direct though. This was under duress. No, is it not?
This whole list was no, but I'm coming you actually going to see this film in a theater was under duress because was this not
I'd say that for my last like
But was this not something that you were put through because of your lovely lady friend?
You could say that about the last
Okay, fair enough
You should be there the only one that was of my own doing on this entire list
Was the dark towel. Okay
My second to least favorite film of the year was another film that I saw at the Dallas International Film Festival at a
Saturday night 11 30 screening
Was already going to get a wide release like I mean major wide release horribly
Horribly mis-marketed. I'm glad I missed it as a an action adventure
What it turned into was anything, but this was called the Lost City of Z
Charlie Hunnam is in this
A great cast, but this film does nothing but fall flat. It is boring. It is
All of the action adventure you see in the trailer all of it
I'm not kidding you when I say all of it the rest of it is all exposition and why he has to go back to find this city
Even though he's putting his life at risk and he has new kids every time he goes home
It's terrible. It's absolutely horrid not as bad as the one sitting below it, but it's terrible
And I went because I'm like, you know what? It's 11.30 night. I've heard a lot about this
I'm gonna go because and there was a reason it was showing at 11.30 on a Saturday night. That's all it was so late
I missed it. That's because it's so late and I'm glad I missed it. I'd be happy you did all right. Let's get to your worst
Or are shall we say at least favorite film of 2017 general? We already mentioned it. It was the Jeremiah Jeremiah tower the last magnificent
Again, not great, right, but it just kind of a certain point I was like
Really didn't count as a movie to me. It was more like and I guess it wasn't but it was more like something you'd just flipping through the channel
So there's nothing on it makes good background noise while I'm cooking
Lonnie's theory on the last night as he doesn't understand how the guy who gave us bad boys gave us
Transformers and he is suggesting that Bay is out of stroke
Not a genius
Or has been replaced. You guys hate yourselves. He's just some crap folks
Like I said, we we have to go to as many screens as possible because we want to tell the Empire how best to spend their entertainment
I am a loving and supportive semi-husband
Don real fast
Um, the Jeremiah tower. I thought you like chef and you leave hungry nothing like that. Yeah, yeah
We know his is the great wall as ours as ours going to show up the same. Yeah, this one I rented
Just to because I thought I might feel better about myself. Well, guess what I did the rent to own on the DVD
So it's saying rent to own a DVD at movie TV company
Well, that movie trading company you can rent it and then instead of returning you can pay the difference
Own it. Yeah, so I some of it he went to errands. They're doing movies now
So I shout out to errands for those great cows
Just the case I did something for my worst tin of worst it, but my
Gold Turkey is the same as Rob's
To give to somebody for Christmas gift this later this year. Oh, but you paid for this
It was it wasn't the bargain bed. It wasn't the bargain bin
You still have not said the title only paid a dollar more after the rental price and the title is
Territz Malik's we both have the golden turkey the same song the song
It is that bad you are the reason even under a joke atmosphere
You are the reason this man keeps getting a check cut to him because you're buying his films
This this film is two and a half hours of a flaming turd
That like if you put a flaming turd on a screen for two and a half hours
It would still be more entertaining than song to song a movie that took him seven years to film
And it makes no sense, but everybody in their brother still wants to work with this
You paid for this you're gonna own it
You're gonna own it
Like you said why would people crying I have no idea I could tell you why they were crying
Because it wasn't ending
There's no story
It's just like hi, I'm Michael fast bender, but I'm not really Michael fast bender
Hi, I'm who's the other guy in there? I'm Christian bail, but I'm not really Christian bail
Hi, I'm Natalie Portman, but I'm not really Natalie Portman Christian bill wasn't in high
I'm Val Kilmer, but yes, I really am Val Kilmer and nobody knows why I'm in this film. I'm crying
We're not sure why he stormed a stage at a music festival
We weren't we're not really sure if he was actually hauled off by the cops or not. I am betting he was
In the tracks in mind, you like the night of cups. This is not it comes part two
You'll be there. I would watch I would watch night of cups again before I would watch songs on that's how bad this film is
Well, if you have the choice of watching either of these films or as Richard Jenny once said giving birth to a porcupine on fire
Take the second-less painful option. I mean he did rank the emoji movie higher
Yeah, cuz song to song is that bad. It's terrible. Is it bad that I feel like I need to watch this based on how much I hate it
You can borrow it from him at the end of the year like anybody
Anybody could rift track this thing. That's how bad it is and they wouldn't even need to try because it's that bad
Everything this man does. It's like a two and a half hour Calvin Klein commercial from 1996
That's how bad just and there's all the sub-trapping. I don't know why did this I'm so hurt
But we hear and there was no slap is he just followed them around with a camera and built a film around it for seven years
I'm not kidding you
Song song. I think we've established with the bottom of my list Alex the great wall still. Yeah, yeah
Yeah, it is okay, so now that we can shift off of that just so you could have some cool down time
The great wall. I think you gave it too much credit
There are great people in it and it is just basically a Chinese group a Chinese group throwing tons of money at met Damon
Pedro pass man Damon and Willem Dafoe and just filming inherently racist things because we need white people in the great wall to fight
lizards
But it's not as bad geostorm. Oh, it's worse. I don't drink but I get it
Like at least geostorm had some mild entertainment by the fact that people stopped calling people by characters names
The great wall is just bad the whole way through
I enjoyed that film. I'm not
It was there. Yeah, let's just get to the top 10 so I can take some blood pressure medicine
This sad part is I knew it was coming and it's and it's still just absolutely crawled up in my spine and died like it did
Like this is how much my hatred for Terrence Malik has become and he did tree of life which was austernam
I mean
And I'm telling you a list actors line up to because they don't do what they want a lot of you said he wanted to jump off the great wall
Telling he's on fire general. Let's get to the good stuff. Please for the love of god number 10
My number 10 is guardians too
For me number nine
I really had to look at my top 10 list this year because
Guardians came in at 11 for me. Yeah right outside Don where's guardians for you? It's in the middle. It didn't make it
I
My thing with guardians and I'm gonna let you elaborate as well
Sometimes I liked it as much as I liked the first one and sometimes I didn't yeah
There were some moments that I was like
Okay, that really added nothing to the story
There were some things with the story. I was like yeah, I don't have a problem with that love
That's the only thing that put it to 11. I mean I've changed it from only Mary poppins is practically perfect to only Michael
Rooker is practically perfect and see let me ask you this
Given the events of a year ago
does that
On a certain level jade your view of that film no fair enough it didn't um, I mean I like the franchise
Rooker's certifiably insane. Let's just say it. Well, I love the maze
But yeah, and in the best of ways like the guy's just no sometimes I wonder how Julia keeps up with him
If anything, it was do you realize you didn't act as much that's more just him?
Yeah, that's what I'm saying like Julia sometimes just has to be like can you just slow down for five minutes
Have you ever listened to one of the podcasts where he's on Doug loves movies? No, and they will do entire categories that are Michael Ricker movies
And he can't remember anything he did
Yeah, I'll you'll always be mr. Svenning to me
Yes, but yeah, that was my number 10 don number 10 uh quick honorable mentions real fast table table 19 uh dealt about the boring dealer
Maybe try love table 19. Oh, that makes a table 19 for me number 25. What was the second you listen? Delt
Delt
Number 12 for me about the guy who's the one of the greatest card trick people in the world and he's blind ex that got wide released by the way
Okay, baby driver is an honorable mention
City of ghost and alien covenant city of ghosts. We're gonna talk about a little bit. Yeah, that's what I think
But alien covenant. I have sitting at not on my list
No, do I have it sitting 52 now these top 10s that by review them they got the full coveted
Two I didn't review because I didn't see that the time
Number 10 cars three
Really? Yeah, the anime very much enjoyed cars three then 3d animation everything beautiful on that cars three. I have it 34
Very much enjoyable though. Alex all right
The honorable mentions that haven't been brought up before get out and it didn't make my top 10. Okay, but I didn't see it almost
Actually, I loved atomic blonde did not see it, but I'm it's on my list. I've heard really good things
It is so I've heard that the music doesn't quite match up to where it's supposed to though from a historical standpoint
No, it actually kind of well, let's put it this way. It's
Drippingly 80s music and it's set in East Berlin
1989. Okay, fair enough
That's a Charlize Theeron who is at her best of
beating the crap out of you there was a screening of this and I missed it because I think it was in the middle of the day
Okay, that's on my list James McAvoy was fantastic. McAvoy's awesome. Oh, yeah
Number 10 for me is the film that closed the Dallas International Film Festival this past year
It did get a wide release. It's I'm think it's I want to say it's available on
Blu-ray right now if it's not it's gonna have to be any day
This was an independent film
That Fox search light picked up and I'm so glad they did and I'm glad I saw it when I did like I said it
It closed the Dallas International Film Festival and it looks like it is available now on blue
Ray
It's called patty cakes
Okay, this is my to watch this is a
Jersey girl version of eight mile with a sense of humor to it
The lead in the film she is Australian
Had never wrapped before
Why am I picturing rebel Wilson right now? She looks kind of like rebel Wilson. She does
And she kills it
You would think that she lived in Jersey
um
She has a sidekick who is of
Middle Eastern descent and at one point she refers to him as Deepak Shakur at that point
I was like I'm already I'm in I you now have me for the rest of this film you have me for the rest of this film
I don't know it but I'm in now. It's it's really really really good
um
If you just it's available on amazon right now uh you can I mean the blue ray is sixteen bucks
It's really really well done. It's very smart. It's very funny
And after I saw what I saw before it it was a really really nice palette cleanser
Given what I saw before it and the reason I'm not saying it is we're probably gonna talk about it here momentarily
And if you know anything about my mute by film viewings in the last year you probably know what I'm referring to
general number nine
The live action beauty in the beast
This one for me it'll start to music again and uh maybe in the beast for me
The animated came out when I was in that you know that was my first year of college
Yeah, I was like I was 17 18 when it came out
So the impact from that at where I was mentally to have this now it just has such a memory for me
Beauty in the beast for me 62
Yeah, CGI was really good, but you got to when you look at what's around it
I mean it's right below Logan
so
But I mean and like I said for me the the girl the teenage girl at 1617 knowing the animated and you know mentally
I thought any guy was gonna date. I'm gonna get you know
I was still in that princess happily ever after so some of those emotions came through your wall watch
Excellent film. I own it. My wife got it for me for uh for Father's Day. I got it this year
Excellently done beautiful. Well gone. I could have done without
Ariana Grande but still yeah gone number nine
This one we went in going huh who knows and we left we laughed so much. It was a fun ride
Free fire. I loved free fire free fire is number 13 for me. Yeah, that
Just take take the last
Five minutes of reservoir dogs stretch it to a half an hour and add comedy
We're an hour now and this this takes place in the 70s in Chicago if I'm not mistaken
And it's about cost enough. I remember I believe it takes it's in a warehouse arms deal that goes horribly wrong
Uh, Bree Larson's in this army hammer is in this people are getting shot and you're laughing
Okay, let's make it say it's it's so it's
It and Don's exactly right. We weren't I mean
I was interested going in because I'd seen all the posters and they have that that 70s look to them
Then everybody's pointing a shuttle coplies in this. I'm gonna have to go back because I saw like the first four minutes
And was like yeah, I'm watching something once it establishes itself just stay with it because yeah
It's nothing short of hilarious
I gotta see that one very underrated film this year in my opinion. We might do a retten watch. It's on net. Absolutely. Is it on Netflix?
We can do a red one of these Netflix hulu or Amazon primus on it. It's on Amazon primus probably on Netflix because they carry a lot of the same stuff
But if yeah, get to it get to it now. It's a great film. Alex number nine done Kirk
Did not see it? I you know, and I'd say that's this is another film that's polarized the community, but me
I didn't see it. I understand it. I was expecting it to be a lot more
like dry and morbid and honestly, it is one of the
Uplifting like you're you're beaten down by the like Christopher Nolan does some really brilliant things with it and
Not exactly a spoiler, but interesting thing they do the quote-unquote villains of the movie are the Nazis
You never see a Nazi except for the last like 30 seconds and he purposely blurs them out so you never see a human that's ugly really
Hey Lonnie says his his daughter's favorite movie here was Beauty and the Beast and I trust the Katie. She's my little princess and I love her
So number nine for me Guardians of the galaxy volume two
Again, sometimes I liked it as much as the first one and it just kind of depends on the day
This is one of those films that once infinity where it gets here
I want people to go back and watch this again because you're gonna understand
This is how what we had to do to get from here to there and how dare Michael Roker make me cry oh so good and
I loved I love the way they told the story
There's certain elements I was like I wish we'd have done that differently, but
This cast is just so good and James gun gets it absolutely, you know, although I do miss dance contests with you know with Ronin
I mean you know that's who that is on you said you said you started watching a halt and catch fire. Yes, you know Joe is
Ronin the accuser
From the first Guardians of the galaxy. Yes, but we'll talk after error about my impression of
Joe and who it runs me of
Lonnie says
He has daughter said Beauty and the Beast's favorite movie the year and then she said elf so take her opinion with a grain of salt
General number eight
Number eight for me was cars three. Oh, okay. All right. Again a great film. Yeah, great animation
I'd ever saw cars too and I was told that my life is no worse off because of it
So I deemed themselves on this one after cars too and a lot of emotion in this. Yeah, I felt that animation was beautiful
Don number number eight this one here for you an animal lover. You got to see it
great story surprised me how well it was a dog's purpose
dog's purpose wound up for me
and
The the behind the scenes
Controversy on this really hurt the film. Yeah, it's still an excellent film. I had it at 56 really in between train spotting and their finest
It's one of them. Mm-hmm. If you've had
Some people are pet owners and sometimes we do have we lose our pets
If you've had a recent pet loss is that gonna be harder for you to watch this movie? I think it's I think it's gonna be hard for you regardless
Because I got we and I'm at the outgoing pets as kid growing up dogs and it
Incredible. It's one of those you see the ending coming but it's but it happens. It's no less impactful
Which is the brilliance I think of this film
And I'm a big Josh Gad fan so you can put him in his animation doesn't his voice over. Yeah, it's it's it's perfect
It's a great film. It's again so many great films this year
It just kind of got lost in the shelf of for me. Don number eight
That was my I'm sorry. I think this is where I started to take a left turn from everybody else. Okay, Logan Lucky
I love that film. I love that film. I still have a Logan Lucky for me
No, no 33 okay, I did a lot like it this much
But I believe the sensational Shawnee said it best
It's brilliant and it's simplicity in certain areas that you expect it to be more complex
Logan Lucky for me wound up between and it just to let you know between cars three and the big sick
So that's good company for that film to be in two movies. I didn't see so
Check out the big sick. It's really really good. Number eight for me was on Jen's lower half of her list the disaster artist
After seeing the room and then seeing this film
First of all Franco yep, all the awards just give them all to him, but here's a problem
You're gonna have Tom Hanks who's a Oscar darling with the post. It's not gonna be his best in order
He's he'll get the nomination over Franco. I'm just yeah, let me tell post you this way. Yeah, the post for me
Still looking still looking still looking what we're gonna have an eye to the exclusive next
Week on maybe I put that on this year's list because I don't see I think that's a 2018. Yeah, we'll have to count to 20
Well, I thought this year because they gave us
But the post will get too later, but um, but Franco's just so good in this and
After is having seen the room like five days before so it was still fresh in my mind
You have if you haven't seen the room you need to watch the room at an audience screening before you see the disaster artist
So you can really understand the depth and the breadth of this thing. Yeah, and for me it's six
All right number seven general
Number seven is the boss baby. I enjoyed boss maybe very very much, but it wound up way down on my list
You're a Baldwin mark too. I am a Baldwin mark
Boss maybe 63 right below beauty in the beast and right above the promise for me
Uh boss baby Alec Baldwin CGI
Cookies are for closers good animation
Yes, cookies are for closers and having come out of title. That was even funnier to me. Yes
Um, I a real estate title. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's just one of those that I had no expectations of it
I didn't feel good that day
put it on and it kept me entertained this will be one
I think the longer time goes the more people will appreciate it. I love the plot
Yeah, it's yeah, it's it's a creative plot
If you're when you're a baby and you're being creative you either become an actual baby or you work for baby co
Because you're more of a business person and so he goes through all the tests and they realize he's not going to be a good baby
So he goes worked for baby cove and he gets sent down to earth to be a real baby
Because puppies are getting more loved than babies and he has to stop the puppies
It's it's it's cute. It's cute. There's this and of course his older brother
Knows who he is, but the parents think he's just a regular baby and there's a whole scene where there's a play date going on
And to the parents are just playing in the backyard, but to the kids is this huge
Chase scenes with explosions and it's it's just it's cute and it's it's fun and
If you hated that film you have no soul
Dawn number seven the fantastic faith forward like this and usually I'm not a fan of the remakes
But in a way this was a remake of a classic okay
And I say they'd make my top 10 it did
Wonder
I did not see that it is in a way a remake of the film mask from the 80s with Eric Stoltz
But some kind of premise, but this one really touched me share and Sam Elliott was in bad moment that was Eric Stoltz
Yes, yeah, it was and but yeah, there was three
I don't know, but this one really how a kid who once you get to know him Julia Roberts is in this
Oh, yeah, I know Wilson does good for the park considering it's a serious role
It makes you laugh it makes you sad it makes you cry, but it makes you happy this kid triumphs great film
Alex number seven
Spider-man homecoming wow
I know I couldn't rank it that well here's here's where I'm gonna go with you on this I have
Hot take never been a fan of spider-man as neither am I
This was more interesting to me taking account to how many movies had been made where I'm just that they're going
Say I didn't like the rainy trojee. I like to mark web films
This one was this one was it was I was very mad about this the only thing I will give this film is
Who is the voice of the suit
Jennifer Connelly that's who was Jennifer Connelly married to
I actually don't know this because it's Paul Bettany who did Paul Bettany play
I
Who was originally the voice of Jarvis who was the voice of Tony Stark suit right that I'll give you that that was well played
Oh Jennifer Connelly's married that's a disappointment yeah to Paul Bettany. I mean I can't compete with that
Yeah, I can't do that number seven for me. I'm staying in that same vein for Ragnarok
This movie is wonderful
Wonderful
Two and a half hours incredibly well-paced the comedy is perfect the action is perfect the fact that they said openly
We had to listen to the to the score of big trouble in little china when we were writing the score for this
It it's the best Thor movie even though that doesn't set the bar very high
But this is the best movie of the Thor trilogy and for me it's
Sometimes it ranges top five sometimes it ranges top three MCU for me
It's that good
And Kate Blanchett come on
And the scene of when Thor returns to Asgard and if you haven't seen it
I'm not gonna ruin it for you. Oh so good and the opening scene. Yes, where he's in the chain
He's talking. He's like hold on. He's like swing your ass right around hold on. I'm coming around hold on
General number six
Star Wars last Jedi very nice
Did not see that coming
All right, I'm a Star Wars fan good. I'm surprised you would be surprised
Gonna hold on to that darn number six
This one when I saw it at the theater you already stopped prior to me the fantastic Faithful cheered okay
And we'll talk about it later because I know it's gonna be on your list. Okay step
Yes, we are we'll talk about later. We're gonna put a pin in that yeah number six Alex
Previously mentioned the disaster artist all right number six for me
baby driver
There's a lot of people and I was surprised at the number of people that were that said they didn't see it because they thought the title was weird
Yeah, and I was like apparently communism is alive and well in this country
This movie and and I understand people now are hesitant because of the Kevin Spacey factor
Take that out of it and go rent this film
It's available on blue right. I know because my wife bought it for me for our anniversary. You know we have it
Well, I'm either the screener, but I've got that's a DVD. I've got the blue ray and I'm full film is nothing short of brilliant
Edgar Wright leaving Ant-Man to do this. I'm okay with both sides of that argument
This film works on so many levels and when General and I went and screened this I was not feeling well
Well, I need says last Jedi plot holes. I can drive a death start through. We'll have that discussion on another day. That's fine. I can still make it
I we went to baby driver. I was not feeling well. No, I was I was in a bad way
I came out of that film like I'm so glad I and it was a theater on the other side of town
And I was like I'm so glad I got myself here because the soundtrack the choreography of the chase scenes
Some of the best work I've ever seen John Ham do
Even Jamie Foxx being Jamie Foxx didn't take me out of that thing
Um, and we'll talk about it again. So great. I can honestly say I was a converter on that one because remember
We had that discussion where I was like I didn't get it
I liked it, but it wasn't like
Bormia and as I go back and watch it again
Hearing things from you hearing things from Jen and going back and watching it again and going like holy crap
This is gonna be and seeing all the stuff you didn't see before right and I'm gonna like this more every time I see it
I can't wait to watch it on my home theater system. I really can't wait. I've had a chance
Oh, I can't wait to put that blue ray in my home theater system and just let it just oh see
I thought you'd be coming over let the let the big dog eat my subwoofer in that all right. Let's go to
Number five general wonder woman
Wonder Woman for me
Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na
29
In between Band-Aid and The oldest living boy in New York and see I'm
I am I am totally i'm totally bought it's a great film
I loved it cute Wonder Woman fan
But we we've talked about this before it weighs itself down so much in the middle that I couldn't put it in my time
And as a female some of that stuff needed to be said some of that stuff needed to be out there
But some of it was just ad nauseam for me true, but it was a good vehicle
It's a great film absolutely patty Jenkins clutched it Gal Gadot is amazing
I just couldn't rank it that high because it weighs itself
But because it's a comic book movie for the audience that are gonna see it
It was a good vehicle for it because it got it in front of a lot of men that would never see a movie with that kind of message on it
Don
Wait, we are running away long now if you watch this and didn't get affected you have no soul gifted
Gifted for me number two. I didn't gift it as my silver medal
We're gonna talk about that in a minute
Number five for me Don mentioned it is one of his honorable mentions city of ghosts
It is number five. I have fought. Let's just say four of my top five slots are documentaries
City of ghosts is a documentary about a group of people
Who are fighting ISIS through social media who after the fall of the regime and then ISIS moved in
And I mean, it's you want to talk about brutal violence
You see what these people are going through and then the people that are literally risking their lives
To get the message of what ISIS is doing in their village out to the rest of the world
It is one of the most powerful and I was upset that I missed it at the Dallas International Film Festival
But then it got a wide release and we got to screen it later in the year
TV art inside this house. Oh, oh is it available on that you can TV artist point? Yeah
Yeah, get to it. Yeah, show time. I think it's really really really good. It's really dark
It don't see it if you need something to pick you up. I mean, it's got it's got an uplifting message to it
But it's just so dark, but it's it's so brilliant. What's your number five and?
Oh, did I not yeah, you skipped this number five. I'm sorry. Go ahead, Daleks. I'm fine
Okay, you're gonna be disappointed anyways city of ghosts go check it out your number five Logan
You know what I don't I don't see what everybody else season Logan. I liked it. I didn't it was dark
It was different something about it just love the ending of the ending with brilliant hit me and just pulled me in that whole way
I don't know if it was the
paternal
Relationship through as it being a real family. I don't know what it was. I can't explain it
But every time I watch it
I just feel completely drawn in and I enjoy my issue with it is there's a couple of points that I think they did
Just so they can make sure they got the R rating
The bachelor at party in the limo. I thought although, you know or the opening fight. Yeah, it was just kind of okay
You wanted to get the R just go get the R
You know, just tell the MP just make this an R for it. See and I'm not willing to I didn't want to discount it for that
But I agree with you. I thought the last
Third of it was insane loved it, but again, it was pretty low on my list lower than for a lot of people
So but I thought it was well done. I can't I can't complain about it. It's just not something I'd go out of my way to watch
See and like everybody of my age range. We're all Wolverine marks. Yeah, all right. That's good number four
General and I'm gonna say for my last four picks. I had some kind of an emotional response it
It I had a feeling when I left each of these movies understandable number four. My number four is murder on the Orient Express
Excellent film excellent. Yeah
For me murder on the Orient Express number 19. So still top top 20. I really liked it
It was really great performances great on I actually nominated this as part of north Texas film critics
I actually nominated this for best ensemble film
Yeah, and it's and we're getting death on the Nile very excited
I'm excited. I got to see it with my mom, and I think that's part of why it's just gonna be a great memory
She's always read the Agatha Christie's and I really enjoyed it
And I'm glad it did well enough to warrant doing death on the Nile because it's such
It's a great homage to films of its era and genre of its type
type of its genre
That I was worried that it wouldn't find a good mass audience and it did oh yeah, so thank God that people still like good mysteries
Outstanding choice done number four
We recently did the audio on this and I said it probably make my top 10 and it did
And because we live through it and I love the soundtrack and it's just so funny
It's like the movie weener like I said weener. I Tanya
I Tanya what I looked at where I Tanya wound up on my list. I was shocked
Because I Tanya for me wound up at 47. I said nothing wrong with that word sits between
It's this between professor Marston and Briggsby Bear
So I mean I Tanya is a great film
I would sell you if you're going to go see I Tanya see the 30 for 30 the price of gold first and then watch because it's a very good companion piece of that
Margot Robbie is amazing
Sebastian Stan does a great job in this
I could see the nomination especially for the play the plays or mother. So Alex and Jenny. Yeah, Jay Craig. Yeah
Alex number four
This one I didn't expect to be so high for me, but the more I think about it and I'm not an M night Shyamalan fan
Split split was awesome. I I know how it is. I'm good. He didn't play well in the acting. It's Mackaboy. Mackaboy is amazing
But this one he really knows and the fact that you have so many stories about other actors and people who worked on that movie
Genuinely afraid that Mackaboy broke from reality because he's that good number four for me
Don's already mentioned it if you haven't seen this documentary. It's available now. It's called step
uh
Takes place in Baltimore my number six and it's about an all-girl school in the inner city in Baltimore
And you get in in the sixth grade by a lottery system
and their their goal
Is 100% college enrollment and graduation. It is the Baltimore's
Leadership School for girls or something of its ilk we actually have a screener for it
Uh, I saw this at the Dallas International Film Festival
Fox Searchlight had already bought the rights to it. So we knew it was gonna get a wide release
That's when I saw those so what this takes place is it's the very first graduating class of this school
They've been there all six years together when they first came in in the sixth grade. They were the very first class
They decided to form a step team
And if you don't know what stepping is it is something that's done at tradition by traditional black fraternities and sororities
You've seen it
Like just by mentioning that you probably know where I'm talking about
Oh, there's actually a new series are an unnetflix. It's going to be a fictionalized type of
People coming together about it
The bus speed try guys did uh one recently and that's actually it's got some historical to it
So it's some of our local high schools actually garland garland high school has a step team and they actually did a performance at the screening that I was at
And so this is their senior year and they're they're trying to decide where life is going to take them
And you see it through the prism of three of the young ladies
Um, sorry
There we go
Step I I laughed. I literally cried more than once in this film as soon as I saw it
I called Kevin and aunt from the movie brothers
And I said if this screens again
I'm taking at least one if not both of you because they met as fraternity brothers in in college
They're both fathers of daughters and they were both line members
I said there's nothing about this film you won't love and this was four months before they got to screen it
They got to come with me to the screening when they had it and I was worried. I had oversold it
Oh, you didn't when the credits rolled there were tears coming out of Kevin's eyes
And the crowd cheered more than one of the fantastic fate or she cheered about three times in this time
I mean, I'm the whole crowd cheer this is a film that if it's not up for best documentary, I'll be shocked yeah
All right, let's get into the metal round Jenny won the uh, I did she win the gold on you all right. Let's get into the metal round
bronze medal go Molly's game
Stice on my list. I gotta watch it
Sarah and Sorkin and it's poker. How can I not watch this? She does good in the acting
Because something I loved it. Jessica Chastain Idris Elba
I'm still disappointed that I didn't find a way to come with you interesting rumors that one of the unnamed poker players in this is
Supposedly actually I'm at Damon
That they can't use his name, but they're that's who they're portraying in the film. I read somewhere
That's a good possibility. It could also be the person that played the part
Oh, okay, but I did buy the book to read it. Okay
Don silver medal. I mean it's like bronze medal for the year 2017 three billboards
Branson Missouri. Oh, I'm having Missouri. Sorry three billboards. I have sitting at 22
Because in between last flag flying and Donovan. I didn't see that you know, I mean
I heard a lot, but only I'm in there. This was three billboards is amazing and Sam Rockwell
I mean Sam Rockwell Francis McDormand Woody Harrelson and do yourself a favor go into this movie spoiler for you
I miss the screening that after you you have to go into the story after you did the review
I which I did with you because I miss the screening we went and saw in the theater mean
Oh, they for love to do great film. It's about a woman who has lost her daughter
And she purchases three billboards outside of having Missouri and the controversy that the billboards
stir up in the community it's
It's haunting. It's funny. It's brilliant. The ending gets a little weird, but
Go see this film anyway. You can Alex bronze medal Thor
Really wow
No, no, no, I did not like
The dark world at all to the point where I couldn't understand that they actually got green
Another one the first one. I was like okay. I'm not as familiar with Thor, but it's okay
Going into this one. I had low expectations, but I am going to see anything from the MCU
and I
loved
Every minute of this movie and tyco ytd give him a blank check. I agree. I agree great film my
Bronze medal is a film that's actually been that pbs bought the rights to
And has shown I saw again at the Dallas International Film Festival this year. It's called quest
It is the it is a documentary about a husband and wife team
Uh in oh geez, I just completely lost it
um
They are he is basically a music producer who
uh works
Basically out of his basement
Um, I think I've got it right here to look at it's
In North Philly
um
Basically it's about just about their struggles. She works in a hospital
He's trying to make it as a music producer in the local Philly scene in hip hop and rnb
He's also a local DJ and their family light
This thing takes a turn about halfway through
That I literally kind of catch my breath
That affects the rest the entire rest of the film and its production
It is again. This is another one's very very dark and I'm kind of getting a little emotional just talking about this film
It is so powerful
It is
Absolutely
brilliant and I think pbs took it as part of what I think they call like their American life series or something
Find this film
It's a film about family. It's a film about circumstance
It's a film about perseverance and it's brilliant
Alex. Oh, this is something off air, but okay
Your three billboards outside of Ebbing Missouri did win best original screenplay
And it's great film and I believe Jen and I called the best original song
From the greatest showman. This is me. Oh right excellent. All right two left and we're running we're waiting
Over and we're running out of you stream time silver metal go baby driver
Oh, I think we've talked about that when I talked about it done silver metal. I have a little bias
Okay, after watching this it was reminding me of
Me growing up and all that in in the mountains of Wyoming wind river
Excellent film a wind river for me sits at
20 because I really show the mountains in between Donovan and murder on the audience press very I mean the acting
It was so real life
And I mean it was brutally honest, but it was brutally honest because I've seen it Jeremy Renter and the Elizabeth Olson
Hawkeye and uh Scarlet Witch and a murder mystery in the middle of nowhere in the winter
Excellent film. Yeah, take another one takes a weird turn. Yeah, but based on a true story. Yeah
Alex silver metal about to kill all my credibility beauty in the beast. No, it's a great film. I loved it
Excellent film, but you also didn't see as many films as we did so
Your voice is a little bit more concentrated than ours. So we'll give you that my silver metal goes to a movie that Don's already mentioned
But we're gonna talk about it now gifted
If you don't have a soul you Chris Evans mechanical grace Octavia Spencer
This is about a little girl who has been homeschooled her entire life. She's lost her mother. She's living with her father
And her father decides it's time for her to be integrated into
normal school
And in doing so her maternal grandmother because she is a genius
Her maternal grandmother comes back into the picture to try to take her away and
This is a movie like Don said if you do not have an emotional response of this movie you may need to check your pulse because this is another one
I cried like a child and so did the fantastic Mayford wonderful brilliant film a kind of grace also
Is in itanya. She plays the little Tanya Harding. Yeah
This kid's got a bright future and I'm looking forward to seeing what she does excellent choice
It is my silver metal. Let's get to the big one
General paper film of the year the big sick great movie like I said this is a little bit down the list for me
But this is the actual true story
Is it Camille non-Johnny I believe this is name and how he met his wife
It's
It didn't snide
Bang and it didn't need big
CGI it didn't need a big budget to do it so he can say and is brilliant in this ray remodels in this hell and uh hunter
Is in this hell and hunt hell and hunt it's just it's a adorable
Love story, but it's also you know how our family impacts. It's it's about family and it's about tradition and it's about breaking those traditions and
We're embracing new ones more than not so much breaking but embracing new and one of the most uncomfortable jokes
I've seen in a film in a long time and it's in the trailer and that's all I'm gonna say. Oh, yeah
Don't actually I'm gonna hold off play Daleks go for Alex favorite film of the year because Don thinks he's more important. No, there's a reason
last Jedi
Interesting, I loved it and I know I know I have a huge bias for the Star Wars
galaxy realm everything
Mm-hmm
Talk about it now because I think I know what you did do you do you know what I did see a tie
There is a tie for the first time ever
In the history of me ranking films there is a tie for my favorite film of the year. Talk Jedi first
Look Star Wars last Jedi is the one a
Um, I said after I saw this thing is really really trying to be my favorite film of the year
I thought Ryan Johnson did a great job. I don't understand the hate that's being thrown at this film
I think people have to understand that you're looking at a film now
That you can't compare them to films you saw when you were four
Because you're looking at you're looking at it through a different prism
And it's something we actually talked about during who needs sleep is if you made episode four now
Would you appreciate it on the same level you did in 1977 40 years ago and I would contend no
I think you see it through different eyes now then you saw it through then there's still some of my favorite films
I will still always own them because I love them
But I think with the last Jedi Ryan Johnson said this is not your father Star Wars and that's okay
But they know one little rule there is we talked about off air there's some still
It has its issues and I'm not afraid to say it has its issues there
This the casino sequence. I thought was unnecessary. I agree with that
But there was nothing that was so outrageous that it took me out of it
You know, I love this movie so much and I'm ready for episode nine cousin versus cousin death match
Let's get it on I think the casino scenes actually gonna have a lot more
Oomph to it coming into the episode nine
I have a feeling that that's going to be more involved
I didn't hate it or anything like that and I did like it but they broke one rule
And all I'm gonna say is the revenge of the Jedi thing
You know what I'm saying. Well, we'll talk about it. Yeah, but we talked about off air before I think it broke one so that's one a for me
There's no way bet your mortgage right now
That Don and I are about to talk about the same film we are and it's getting a wide release next month
Oh, yeah, I'm so excited and I'm so happy for everybody involved in this film
It won all the awards at not only the Dallas International Film Festival
Every best festival that this film went to it took home hardware and it has every reason to
bomb city bomb city is one of the best films you will see period
I think
Don't quote me on this actually you're going to be able to because it's on the internet now
I am pretty sure that right now you can at least pre-order it on iTunes
really
I don't think it's available yet, but I believe it is available for pre-order on iTunes
Do yourself a solid first of all go watch the trailer
It's a great trailer the trailer that they cut and they released the trailer on the end of the 20th earth of I guess the 20th
anniversary of the incident itself or really pre-order confirmed what's the what's the date of does it should be the date on the release of that
We do a lot of this is the true story of
Murder in the punk rock scene in Amarillo in 1997. Do yourself a favor? Yeah, don't do the research
Don't you know the story fine if you don't don't go into this thing
Glenn Moore shower who sat on in on our show at the Dallas International Film Festival as did major Dodge as did the composer as did the director
All unbelievably high-quality human beings
We did our very first spotlight episode about bomb city where Don and I sat and we talked about the film we cut together
hour
Our interviews with all of the filmmakers we sent it to them and we didn't have it wasn't something that they asked to do
We did it because we believed in this film. They're using our stuff in their EPK. What's he okay? They're electronic press kit really
I actually talked to major Dodge because major Dodge is also in Donovan. Yeah, which was written produced star catered
Composed by friend of the show Jason B who was another one of our spotlight episodes
We sat in the studio for an hour and a half and talked about Donovan and all and all things in our friendship and everything else
Major was like no we got it dude. Thank you so much. We're actually gonna use some of it in our EPK
And I could not be happier
This film is so amazing
I cannot begin to tell you how great this movie is and it was the movie
I saw my I mentioned earlier that patty cakes closed the Dallas international film festival is a great palette cleanser
I saw bomb city right before it and it's very intense and your heart will race
Go ahead date they have online is February 9th. Oh, so it's oh it's gonna drop in theaters and on iTunes the same day
Yeah, and hopefully I mean one of our vendors will give you a screening if they do I'm gonna go again
It's so this movie is so amazing that
I
Would love to see a ground swell of this film where it just takes the world by storm because
There's a reason that it's won a bazillion awards on and theaters and on video on demand the same day
If you live in Dallas they film some of it here, so you're gonna see certain places that don't exist now since they filmed it
but it's
It is so amazing and because when I see people involved with it are such amazing people and they were so gracious to us and
We can't wait to see for everybody when we did the show the first time. I was gonna see it the next day
And what happened when I saw it?
I gave you the obscene you have to see this thing and I gave it through the sky and then you're like, whoa
Okay, and then when you start doing three screens of it at the Dallas International Film Festival because they kept selling out
That's how good this is the screening I saw they had to bring in chairs
It's just a pillar. Oh
I am so happy that this movie exists and I'm so happy like
It's again not to feel good movie of the year
But the principles involved and their families yeah all endorsed this film
Um the ones that some of them couldn't did not want to be contacted and we respect their wishes
But this movie is so well done and it's called bomb city because that's what Amarillo is known as and they explain that in the film
Go see this movie when and when you watch it you may shake your head
Um, in like to say perception is everything. Yep. I don't say that. Don't say anything else. I know
Go check this also in the film a Laura Linclater who is the daughter of Richard Linclater who played the sister in boyhood
She is in this as well great job everybody
