It is season 5 episode 24 numerically episode 283 The clubhouse is live and on the air we welcome each and every one of you individually No matter how you're listening whether you're live on you stream Whether you're listening on the you stream archive or whether you're listening on iTunes We're just glad you're here welcome My name is Rob and man had a fireplace going today And he was candid Let's go around the horn and tell you who else is in the room for tonight's episode Joining me across the desk as he tends to do each and every week Is a man who I think is finally shaking off the funk of earlier today He is my co-host he is Chad Walker sir Still kind of reeling from a little bit So talk about here in a minute Also joining us tonight Is a man that has been as football intensive as I have this weekend Because he hasn't had bowling to do because he is the king of bowling He is entry back in welcome sir Thank you Welcome here Great to have you here Go football Whatever that means Go football team Let's get into corrections Listen the last week show was clean Good show last week That's always nice just to kind of just bring it back to basics every once in a year Yeah very relaxing show how to good flow to it So nothing wrong with that All right, we're going to get the TV talk Want to say congratulations to the people over at the doctor who franchise This last episode had the highest viewership to date on BBC America The wife was actually watching that last night when I got home Average just over two million viewers And the Christmas special did 2.3 million viewers I think always does mad numbers the Christmas special is That's always a big deal for them So every British series has it's like that's what their Christmas day centers around is their Running series having these big Christmas shows They've did the every one of them has one seems like anyway Also congratulations to the people over at the Downton Abbey Was above which my wife is a huge fan There's season premiere was season five correct if I'm not mistaken Ah yes true 10 million viewers And for PBS that's huge Yeah, that may be more than they have an entire week They had for that one hour of television Dude God and still no people did he daddy So we're happy about that Because you know he was lobbying to have a role on that show on Downton Abbey he was Look at that what would he do he'd be peep off to daddy It's all I'm saying Eatress help up baby Yeah, I didn't come on Well speaking of ratings let's talk about American Idol which debuted this past week A series low Starting off American Idol season 14 What a bullet in this thing Yeah, but when a series low is almost 11 million viewers Like even saying it's down 34% from last year Most series would kill for those numbers I know one that would impact but But you know empire Followed that their new series with Terence Howard and Terrasi Behenson It's their best new show premiere rating in three years with 9.8 million viewers They're on calling it tomorrow Now here's your here's your trivia question What was the what was the highest rated series premiere before this three years ago on Fox Actually I don't want to say it was maybe it's five years ago but maybe it's three series premiere Hmm, it's no longer on Gosh The key for southern and vehicle touch Oh God So there's that forgot about that HBO has renewed girls for another season It would be season five for them never watched an episode Likewise all I know is The lead chick writes a lot of books and Adam drivers going to be an episode seven.

Well, they're part of that animation domination block Which I'll have new episodes of tonight Oh, we have tonight's the apital Yep, absolutely Mm-hmm And the CW has renewed Jane the virgin arrow and the flash And now we're hearing rumblings of the Adam as it's been possibly They did I also saw today I saw a picture of the firestorm costume I kind of like it Very interesting It's going to be tough to pull that up Just like it was the flash that kind of hard to pull that one But the picture I saw it was more It was kind of I don't even know how to describe it. It wasn't super heroly Well, which was kind of nice You kind of groaned at that answer.

You're not cool with them doing the Adam Yeah, I don't really see how I mean the flash seems like they're having to throw a whole lot of content at you to keep you interested Well, they got to get they already had to do several crossover episodes They got to get that these are one crossover They got to do that DC universe and set it in a motion Well, they brought in they brought in a A male and I think the third second or third episode to give a confidence booster to the berry Well, they did but that's but it's a spin off from that show Yeah, but I don't know maybe I'm just trying to what they're trying to use their training in the universe connected They're trying to keep that universe connected Oh, you've been drinking again. No That's far as you know Coca-Cola Classic You're more certainly than I usually am Chris been clean with no caffeine. I'm just tired of waiting for him to come back.

It's been a month already It's going to be another week And actually that is a correction we had from last week. I thought they were coming back last week. They don't come back till next week I so weird how we had these these shows coming back last week and then they're taking a week off this week I don't get russes in the chat room hello to you sir of by what it's got I thought well, I know tomorrow.

It's the national championship But I know why Then my thought was well, is this week the state of the union and then I looked it up and the state of the union's next week So much of what the heck is going on What else is getting preempted? What else is taking a week off SVU Taking this week off.

What is that normally air Wednesday nights? Really Yeah I need to check Chicago fire. They don't even know if that's going to be coming on I mean, I looked at my lineup for this week and almost everything else is fine The goalbergs is there.

Agent Carter is there So I didn't watch the watch the premiere of Agent Carter was a two two episode block So it was two hours. So I waited a couple days to watch it because that's just a lot TV watching. Was it worth it?

It's good I kind of like where it's going Better than Agent's field I might one in one A that I think what they're going to end up doing is going to end up tying into the second half of this season of Agent of shield Nothing. That's why they're doing it Yeah So there's that And SVU is still status quo Just like CSI But what I'm circling the drain as the kids like to say I wouldn't say circling the drain. It's just It's time It's not like it's circling the drain I think it's time And I think CSI is going to get one more season So they can have the big final season Send off since that was the mother ship of the franchise How long are they going to carry on this gig harbor?

Well, spoiler alert in three two Don't say the one They killed one of them last week Yeah So Before I went over the heck it was I'm done with the storyline I truly am Me too So unspoiler alert Sorry any time you work the the psychotic evil twin angle You're going into days of our lives territory And it's Mark Paul Gossler I'm just saying God I like the guy but not in this role How much of an insult is that to your average TV watchers intelligence in this day and age if you're watching prime time And AMC has renewed bait's motel Is that AMC or ANE this carrying on that? Yeah, yeah, so I just don't know that I I'd want it I think it would have been a health risk to put him out there again see adults defense who is swallowing up everything in its path Yeah, I actually I think Dallas has the best chance to beat Seattle out of all the teams left. Yeah It's basically now that no, they're they're not in it.

So yeah, I think Browner's hurt for the Patriots. Is it the guy opposite Revis so they're without him And right now we are alive in Denver or we're not but the game is the Indianapolis Colts leading the general Broncos Let's say we are 21 to 13 with just under seven and a half to go in regulation If this happens I believe I had this I believe I said Indie's gonna go in a Denver and win I didn't I you know, I didn't give you a spread or anything But I wasn't Indie was getting like eight and a half in this one day. Yeah You know, it's like there was no let down period for them Andrew luck has been an amazing pick-up by them Great draft pit right But I just say this has been the most competitive game and interesting game to watch of the four right This these these playoffs in general have not been great no And it's not because the defense has been really good just the offenses have been really struggling. Yes A lot of and and and I'll play with the cowboys through the ball more than I thought they would today and those in those Conditions there were two third downs 31 when you have the best and the best running back in the league and you don't run the ball why why why Firecare it for that just for that and remember what I said the key to this to that game was The Marco Marie does not have 200 yards on the ground They don't win that game.

I just don't like cherry You know, and that's gonna carry until the American yeah, I'm not a cowboy hater I mean I have a I'm a fan of a team that we're used to mediocrity didn't bother us But I would bother you Just accept it. Yeah, it just bothers me when we have to go to New England in December, but You know, it's it's I get a sad that the game had to end that way, but That's way football go Yeah, you know So we'll know now next week Then you'll have the week off. We do want to say Super Bowl Sunday February first there will not be a show We're not doing the show during the Super Bowl.

It is a segment we do on this show Oddly enough Where we take a person or an entity and we debate their greatness or lack of their love this week the pendulum swings the Chad So we go live across the next to Chad. Do you have me? Yes?

Yes from all the way across the desk go ahead You and I have discussed this particular topic a couple of times in whether or not it's in an audience or You know, whether it adds to the the anticipation of a series or whatever But Something hit the interwebs that wound up being debunked apparently that they were toying with the idea of breaking The dawn of justice the Batman v Superman film into two movies which I'd been okay with it was a bother me And I guess they were wanting to Float the idea that it would be a kind of a cool thing to get a DC property in theaters this year rather than waiting Which I understood that logic because Marvel owns this year They weren't more importantly Disney owns this yeah no kidding But they were they were the rumor was it was gonna be opening in October And again, what have been okay with it and I know that you had your opinion about how you weren't really thrilled about them making the Hobbit into three films Yeah, I was very upset about that because I felt like a money grabbed to me Especially as much as the deceleration. It was no drag It was the two towers of the series and you know you you've had this you've had this trend that I don't who started it Harry Potter or Twilight Which would which I think Harry Potter did it first where they keep making the lights The last book and turned it into the suit. They've believed it was Harry Potter first and then Twilight did it I'm doing it and I've seen them kind of mentioned that divergent is gonna you got a long way to go for that though Yeah But with this trend constantly popping up When is when is enough enough?

It was five years ago I mean Does anybody see this as a good thing? I mean you you're saying that the Batman thing was a good thing But see with the amount of story you're trying to tell in that film I get it and plus strategically I get it because you're trying to keep that footprint in that market Would anybody have cried if the Hobbit had only been two films? I don't think they would have my daughter probably because she wants as much as she can get But I think overall You're looking and people would say the same thing like with the Harry Potter thing with so much story They had to tell they had to break it into two books or two films You know, Charlotte she's our Hunger Games expert She said it would have been fine if they didn't mocking Jay and one movie, but she could see why they wanted to tell more story But that doesn't seem like a cash grab to you Whereas the Hobbit does but that doesn't it asked me that question after I've seen mocking Jay part two Because I really felt that mocking Jay part one had a lot of story to tell to get ready for What will be The final battle but the book is no thicker than the other two That's because I've got all three books and I'm like they all look like they're the same size to me He depends on how much of the battle is actually in the part part two of it If it's more story and then there's a quick battle The thing with the Hobbit was though and once I read this it really kind of Reinforce my theory of why it should have only been two films the battle of the five armies and the Hobbit is one chapter They made an hour and a half out of it And so 10 minutes in the beginning of that film that should have been tacked onto the second one Because if you're gonna call a film spoiler or spoiler alert in three two don't say the one If you're gonna call a movie the desolition of smile Then you need to demolish smile In that film you don't do it 10 minutes into the next one I mean I agree with them, don't yeah, I mean am I wrong here?

I don't know yeah It it was a kind of a sticking point with me. I'm like you know you'll why call it You'll like say you're say you're gonna make you're gonna make an adaptation of the death of Superman And you call the first film in a series the death of Superman and Superman still alive at the end of that film And you just got lied to your halfway through the the doomsday fight. Yeah, you know You don't peel my boots and tell me it's raining dude, and then you go the other way with that The dark night rises spoiler alert in three two don't say the one We didn't let you know we're we're gonna break this back in this one It was just kind of the dark night rises, right?

So I was kind of cool with finding out what you're gonna do it. Okay. You're gonna do this in the storyline.

Okay. That's fine But you weren't promising me that going in and and if and correct me if I'm wrong here There was nothing in the trailer so I would have let the tell me that either nope No, which I as much as the dark night rises let me down as a Batman fan outside of seeing his broken cowl on on some of the key art Right, but we were we still weren't sure what that was referring to Broken bat anybody anybody that's a true geek gets that that that was pretty much a subtle hint of yeah This is happening now your average Joe movie goer that has a red night fall right wouldn't wouldn't figure that or known who Bain was as he was walking away and right one sheet, but I just I Think we're just getting to a point where We actually have to feed sequels Because we're so concerned about not having anything to put out there Now you if you subscribe on iTunes if you don't subscribe on tunes you might want to Because we'll have a special edition coming up Friday for a movie that we saw this weekend that The way it ends you could franchise it or you don't have to So I make sure that you're tuned in for that But and I like the way that film did it and What we can talk about that off air, but it's just You know you look at something like guardians of the galaxy You could do a sequel you don't have to do a sequel But if you did one I'd be okay with it because I don't feel like that would be a money grab it's just evolving Story like we're getting one. I know we are yeah, I'm just saying the way that ended but okay, and now that you've opened that cano worms The Avengers three and For you mean well, I mean they're just calling it the infinity war part one and two right, but that's so before technically Because they're a year apart right, but again, what is that even count as the same thing?

But what have I said from jump street about that franchise if this is what we're leading up to I'm okay with it because that series alone takes so long To split the inf because again first of all we're naming it incorrectly That's the infinity gauntlet the infinity war is the second piece of that trodice Unless one is gauntlet to is war Is that just a marketing standpoint why the call of the infinity wars because it's easier to put on a poster and it's and it's easier to explain to them to the To the less knowledgeable. I think let's see. I disagree I think you could actually call it the infinity gauntlet and set everything up Well as you're mentioning it through all these other movies so that by the time you get to the infinity gauntlet everybody's like, okay I know what this is now.

Yeah, but I still contend marvel listens to what I'm telling you You need to do the fanos war as an animator feature to set everything up Personally, I think that the infinity war just sounds sexier. It looks better on on a movie poster I don't know. I mean, I'm okay with it either way right as long you say war not yours.

I need to see I Need to see how they're gonna do it. Well, and because if you're gonna tell that story right That would require two movies. I think well, and isn't it they're they're playing it safe because The Marvel Cinematic Universe they haven't really named any of their film.

Well, yeah, they have Yeah, they have I got it. Well here's my thing Once you've got a couple of Songs under your belt That doesn't mean you can headline For instance I like this song don't get me wrong But why is she headlining a tour Because someone was dumb enough to give them that money to do it, but that's everybody now Like when you've got one album your headlining a tour you can't do a set around one album because the world right now is like instantaneous and now now now now now If that song becomes popular They want to they want to make their money now while they're before they do something stupid then Make do a month and they're gonna stop the stupid do like a club tour or something I don't need area on a Grande playing the American Airlines center You know what I'm saying like that that doesn't compute with me Well you're doing it on that size maroon five I get it Let me grab its last night. I get it sting tonight. I get it Rob Point number eight But that's what I'm saying But that does not constitute you being a headliner on a tour because Area on a Grande has a person on her staff that carries her when she gets off stage because she's so tired This is this is not this is not about the art anymore.

This is about the product And I know every generation says that about the generation after but I don't know that it's ever been as true as it is about this generation I mean this this is this has become they are no longer artists. They are manufacturers And it's not even their music. Because if you remember the NHL used to be just kind of this thing that people went to It wasn't as this as sports Radio in this time why it's called the cocaine and boob job crowd. Yeah And after the stars one that's what it was for about five years. Yep.

Yeah. It's hockey Going to turn into one of those commercials when they're early nineties when like Larry Bird and Magic Johnson or you know Off of the Milky Way through the Earth's Manel Crest core Off the McDonald's sign. I think that it would just surprise me trick shots.

It will be number four The true spirit of professional wrestling As good as the as the mid to late nineties was for professional wrestling It was horrible for professional wrestling. I wouldn't say mainstream is one of this down. There is the spirits dead Because it didn't because it went so mainstream It forced the industry in a direction that it shouldn't have had to go What forced the vans in a direction that he took it too far to beat to beat WCW but but WCW started that fight.

Yeah, but that they were limited because did I need to see Dennis Rodman and ring twice WCW was limited because they couldn't go as far as WWE did and I'm not saying it's got to be You know the NW way. I understand why wrestling had to evolve and you had to pull back the curtain because once the internet hit it was all over But my whole thing is The spirit In call with sports entertainment. I still call a professional wrestling because that's what it should be The spirit of it is gone And it's almost as bad as pop music if you're not over right now You got nothing.

Yeah, they're they're already looking to chip you off to the farm leagues If you're lucky yeah, and you have to you have to roll with how they book you This is yeah, so So let's say that that Austin talked about one of his podcast and lots couple weeks how the the promos are so scripted right now You're not allowed to go off the path so little of it is under the wrestlers And I read the other day that Vince is writing Roman Reigns is promos. Yeah, yeah, saw that too That's that kind of and awesome was like I wouldn't have been able to survive Because the whole point was to give me a skeleton to work with and I'll hit your point What about the mindset like Austin just wondering there's like I'm gonna do this to get over guys or because there's Back then there was more opportunity well if I could fire it. I'll go to WCW You're gonna go tana really Number three George Lucas Melanity He was caching it in Say what you want to about Disney that purchase is the best possible thing that could have happened for us Everybody he made it like a bandit, but you know It's gonna make out by in 2020.

They're gonna be able to make a magic kingdom out of their money And we're finally gonna be able to yeah a bigger wait about six of them Number two South by Southwest Sad but true there was a time when South by Southwest and you can think it's really about any music festival But this one specifically was about artists trying to break through That's why it was created and it got so far away from what it was they can't real it back in now Now if you're a band trying to break through good luck getting into South by yeah, you can because it's all about now Marky artists that are gonna bring them to Austin Is it marky or is it like mid-marky artists that go there both? It's almost at the point where South by's got to split itself. It's already split itself between music and movies Yeah, I think you got you got prints and depression mode playing in South by now You have to it's to the point now that maybe South by needs to have a separate weekend just for unsigned Yeah, and do that first and then have your big part because it's already a two weekend event, right?

Make it a month and do your do your indie artists the first two weekends and then your major artists the second two weekends Traffic in that 10 that town is bad enough as They don't need to shut it down for a month. They don't need to be extra two weeks and number one And I dare you to debate me San Diego comic oh no way do I debate you on that I'm to the point now with San Diego that If you if you're not in San Diego now you'll never get a ticket to San Diego yeah because they sell next years Take it's the day that this year opens and all of the 40 passes are sold out you can't even get them yeah And if you're gonna go to San Diego Comic-Con you better bring a winning lottery ticket with you They don't know there that's the mega millions we're talking because you know the best way to do San Diego Comic-Con Know somebody who lives there crash on their couch for four days now. I'll save you about three grand on a hotel And then pray you can at least get a one-day pass It's really sad the best way to go is just to be An illustrator or something there yeah beat beat beat beat Yeah, be working there You know friend of the show Brent people.

She said he he went to San Diego and he just it's just it's a mess Because it's all about Hollywood just invading San Diego for a weekend you go back and you watch like one of the documentaries whenever they took Star Wars to Comic-Con when it was just it was in the basement of a hotel and it was like a little card table with a stack of posters to a movie that no one knew anything about And there's when they pulled the camera back. I can't remember which documentary it may be building an empire or creating it But I can't remember what I was called On like the second DVD release and it it looks like there's maybe 10 people in there Walking around now shoot It's you'll run into 10 people in the parking lot before you get out of the car No, you'll have you'll have 10 people in the car On your good Because the San Diego Comic-Con is on my bucket list and I don't know that out ever be able to fulfill it You you will on about two decades Don't be over 60 There's nothing I can do at that point What I want to go is some some fair assessment of my youth left and they're right much of it It just it kills me You know, going to celebration to and dealing with that was bad enough. I can't even imagine what San Diego's like It's like you have to take one whole day just to cover the convention floor and then Schedule that around sitting in lines for three and four hours to get into convention halls and pray to God There's a seat available for you.

It's a mess And that has that mess has Snowballed into every other Comic-Con across the country including this town That shocked me when we went to the to the Dallas Comic-Con. I'm like good lord. Yeah, who knew Congratulations on all that but I'm gonna tell you something if I want to picture with a celebrity I'm not gonna pay 150 bucks now Or you but used to be you could just have somebody take a picture of you at the table and you're done with it No, no, no, you can't do that now You now have to make an appointment to go stand behind a curtain and get it shot by a professional photographer And it'll cost you a bone in a half If you're lucky depending on having a great night brother depending on the level of the celebrity that you're having your picture taken with too.

Oh, yeah There's like a whole menu It's insane How is that enjoyable for anyone for anyone people that will save their money up all year just for that And then and then you want an autograph that's even more So stupid Insanity and it makes me sad because it's killing the spirit of what it was By the way, I looked up your your oven that you were talking about 14 thousand dollars Anything you always want to add the next 20 seconds.
