Hey y'all, I'm bringing heat Beast and all hot topics every week
It is 702 on the East Coast. It is 402 on the West Coast. It is the 20th of
December in the year of our Lord 2015. Season 6, Episode 21, and the 325th time.
This voice has welcomed you to the Clubhouse Podcast. Good evening. We don't
worry about your hearing about how you're listening whether you're live on
Ustream, whether you are listening on our archive, whether you're listening on
iTunes, we're just glad you're here. It is our last show of 2015. We're gonna take
next week off so you guys can enjoy the holidays with your families and we can
too. My name is Rob and I might get a little froggy here for the shows over. I've
been battling off some sinus problems this week so you have to excuse me. But I
am not alone for this particular episode joining me across the desk is my
co-host and a man whose Christmas cheer is through the roof. He is Chad. Welcome
sir. Thank you my friend. Also joining us is the official fact checker of this
show and a man whose team is playing really really late today. They just started
the fourth quarter in Pittsburgh as they are hosting Denver down seven. You may
know I miss fondongo but his mom I name him Don Ford. I'm gonna call him Don Ford.
Welcome sir. For your sinuses a couple shots at the Keela mine help. Many years ago
yes it would have. I missed Keela a little bit. We are also joined for the
second time in three weeks by one half of the movie brothers. I have seen this
guy more in the last month and I've seen him in the last decade. We have got to
fix that pace. We love him to death. He is Kevin Daniels. Welcome sir. You're on
now. What do you do? How are you old friend? I'm happy to be here. Thank you. Boy we've
got a lot to deal with. Tonight again this is the first time we've ever done a
year-end wrap-up kind of a show. We've done it before as kind of a special
edition but we thought we'd do it as show proper this year and see how it
works out. But we start every show with corrections. Again hope you enjoyed TLC
last week. It definitely had its moments. Strong finish. Very strong finish. We had
a great time watching it. We hope you did too but I didn't hear anything that
really stuck out from you last week. No me neither. So Chad and you know I got
nothing. All right what we're gonna do the first thing we're gonna start with if
you listened. Hopefully if you're new to the show last week's special edition on
bullpicks was not the first show you ever listened to because that was a train
wreck on many many levels but it was a fun show. We had a blast doing that show
but let's give you some updates because the bull started yesterday. So I have to
I'm working off of two laptops to get this done so you're gonna have to forgive me
here for just a moment. What? Oh I gotta fix that. Okay let me get back to where I
need to be. Okay I have to fix that. All right so bull started yesterday. There
were five of them. We will start with the Air Force Reserve celebration
bull from the Georgia dome. North Carolina A&T beats Alcorn State 41 to 34. Chad
had that one. Sharla had that one out. In the cure bull again not with
rudder. It's me the rudder. It's me. From the Orlando Citrus Bowl in Orlando
Florida San Jose State with a 27 16 win over Georgia State. I had that. Don had
that. Who's or even all one? Even except for Andrew who was over two. Oh and the
Guilden New Mexico bull. Arizona 45 New Mexico 37. We all had Arizona. In the
Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl from San Boy Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Utah
over BYU 35 to 28. Chad had that. Don had that. Sharla had that. Andrew gets his
first pick. Only one person did not have it and I will not mention who that is. The
Raycom Media Chameleon Bowl from the Crampton Bowl in Montgomery, Alabama. Appalachian
State with a two point victory over Ohio. Everybody but Chad had that. And finally in
the R&L Carriers New Orleans Bowl from the Superdome in Louisiana. Louisiana Tech
over Arkansas State 47 to 28. I know who I picked on that one. You and I both had
that one wrong. So here's where we're at right now. Sharla and Don are tied for first
place with only one wrong a piece. Well played sir. Andrew is in second with two wrong.
You and I are tied for third with three wrong. But it's early. Yeah. There's only 35
bowls to go. That's it. Maybe I'm almost there. What's my magic number? I don't think
there's a magic number zero when you're five bowls deep into 40 bowls. Just saying. That's
why I had to put my work laptop back on the cradle there. So we got that going for us
which is nice. Let's see. Get back to where I need to be. Since we're talking college
football we probably need to talk a little bit of NFL football too because the NFL is
still going. So she says me don't don's team is still playing. Lot of injuries today. Really
Colts fans. That hassle back out. So now you're down to Charlie Whitehurst. He's your
savior. So you got that going for you which is nice. Also Adrian Peterson leaves the
game today with an unspecified injury. Lot of injuries this year. I think we need to go
get back some more full contact time in the off season. And what they're doing with
the preseason. Agreed. He's got some not prepared to get right in that thing because I can
barely hear you my friend. He's got to not prepare to play at all. It's like it's horrible
to watch some isn't your AFC playoff picture. New England's clenched Cincinnati Denver
Houston Kansas City and the chiefs are all if it happened today. Pittsburgh Oakland
Indy and Jacksonville are all still in the hunt. Guess who's not the dolphins. Let's talk
about scores of the week so far. Thursday night my Tampa Bay Buccaneers went into St. Louis
and stunk up the joint. You lost to see Lewis. 31 to 23. Today. I'm sorry. Let's go to yesterday.
It's going to last night. That's not your cowboys.
Hosted to the jets. By a field goal. Now are they out out? Oh, yeah. There is a
mathematical out because I know they were still in the hunt last last week. But I said this
week next week and week 17 were all winnable games. They proved to me wrong. Oh, they were
winnable. They just didn't win it. Kellen Moore not having a strong showing as the cowboys
picked him up. But you know what? You did better than my dolphins. I'm going to be honest
with you because my dolphins decided they wanted to go get blanked by the old San Diego
Chargers 23 to nothing. Yeah, that happened people. Oh, we're still playing. I'm sorry.
It's 23 to seven. We're on the board with seven and a half to go. A lot of games going
late tonight. We've got four games going on right now. Green Bay is beating Oakland by
a touchdown with five and a half to go. We just talked about Denver and Pittsburgh are
tied at 27 a piece. Got a bond burner going there in Pittsburgh. And Cincinnati beating
up on San Francisco 24 to seven with eight minutes to go today. Poor Indie. Poor Pat
McAfee. Indie loses to Charlottes Houston Texans 16 to 10. Charlottes Houston. She's going
to be JJ wants new girlfriend. So we have to give her that Minnesota beats up on Chicago
38 to 17. New England opening a cannon as they host Tennessee and then show them the door
33 to 16. The Giants, you had one job, New York. You had one job to beat Carolina and you
couldn't do it by a field goal. 38 to 35. And don't let that score fool you. That game
wasn't that close. Atlanta 23 17 over Jacksonville and they they came from behind to win that
game. When you're chasing the Jaguars, you may need to reevaluate some things. This
is true today. God, that teams bad. Kansas City over Baltimore by 20. Baltimore is just
falling apart in these last few weeks. Seattle beats up on Cleveland 30 to 13. Seattle has
clinched a playoff birth with the win today. Tonight Arizona at Philly. This will be an
interesting game to watch. I was talking to somebody the other day and they were saying
if Carolina loses a game and they go 15 and one in the NFC, Arizona would have home
field. But they've never played each other. Really? How do you think that works? I don't
know. I know. But I'm just asking. I think because of the strength of schedule. No points
for a kind of sort of what's point for his point? It goes usually it's whether the it's
the record. Then if they played head to head, which they haven't then they have it. Then
it's division record after that. Then they'd have the same division record, depending on
what it was. It's actually the record of the teams they played. Okay. So that's why
Arizona would have home field over Carolina, which is insane to think about, but at the
possibility if they're tied. Right. Right. And then tomorrow night. Boy, sometimes I
think of the NFO, which is they could flex Monday night. Tomorrow night. Get your caffeine
ready as Detroit visits New Orleans. Oh, good God. This is week 15. What do we call
that one? The misery bowl? The there really is nothing left on television bowl is what
we're going to call that. Hey, it's WWE week on USA. So I know what I'm locked into. And
I still appreciate how they're put in the division games towards the end of the season.
Well, you know, in I can't rest their players. That was a good del thing. Well, I'd still
like them because sometimes when the division games already done, then the divisions already
decided, but if you save the division games till the end of the season, more a lot of the
division because you think about it, they're six division games in the last five, six weeks
for them are usually division games. Right. Well, the reason goodell did that is because
once teams were clenching spots, they were resting their stars, which a lot of the fans
were like, look, we pay good money for these games. So what he did was week 17, everybody
plays division. Yeah. But before we get to 17, we got to talk about week 16 Thursday night
this week, San Diego at Oakland, the battle for the West Coast. So there's that. And then
of course, Friday being Christmas day, but we also have another Saturday game this week
in a division battle, which if the Cowboys had one would be interesting to watch, Washington
at Philly on Saturday. Can they just both lose? No, they can tie. I'd be good with that.
We remember two years ago and Cam Newton didn't know that you could tie in the NFL. Oh,
you forgot about that. And then next Sunday, the early game, your Dallas Cowboys will be
at Buffalo. Oh, it's a Super Bowl rematch at Buffalo. So good luck with all that. Indian
apolis will be at my dolphin. So maybe we can win a game. Not betting on it. I would say
don't be too sure. Did you know Pat McAfee is my favorite player in the NFL? Yes. Chicago
will be at my bucket ears. Woo. Also, and during the early games, I don't know why they
do so many early games and so few late games. I've never understood the logic. Carolina will
be at Atlanta in an NFC South battle. Atlanta, you got one job. One job. Do it. Do it. San
Francisco at Detroit. If you thought Monday night was bad. Houston will be at Tennessee.
So the old Oilers versus the new Oilers. Cleveland will be at Kansas City. Whatever the line
has, take Kansas City. I don't care if it's a hundred. Cleveland's terrible. And you know
what? The football gods are going to make Johnny Man's L play one way or another. But he's
the third string. Oh, now the first two or three games, though. Moving on. New England
at the Jets in an AFC East battle because New England doesn't care at this point. Your
Pittsburgh Steelers will be at Baltimore next week. That's a rivalry game, sir. Oh,
I know. I know. Game for Jacksonville at New Orleans. So Detroit at Jacksonville back to
back. You know, maybe you need a mid date because that's a that's a that's a 305 central
start. Maybe you need a mid day nap. I'm not here to judge you outwardly. DVR time. Green
Bay at Arizona. That will be fun to watch. St. Louis at Seattle. Y'all going to get
shown the door rams. I'm so, but you know, they're on the west coast. They want to get
used to west coast time because they're going to be in LA next year. So they just want
to get used to that. Is that official in my head? It is. Okay. There's talking to them
having three teams in LA. No, no. The chargers are going to stay where they are. The
raiders are going to stay where they are. The Rams will return to Los Angeles. That's
God intent. You said three teams in LA. You meant California. No, in LA. They were talking
about all three teams being in Los Angeles. Oh, really? Yeah. Oh, but that's not careful
done. Oh, sorry. But that's not going to happen. It's going to be. It's going to be LA
in San Diego. We'll say where they are. But the Rams are going back to LA as they should.
Sunday night. Giants at Minnesota. That could be there'd be a lot of fun or will I'll be
asleep. And then next Monday night in the Monday night finale, I'm pretty sure. Cincinnati
at Denver. Oh, yeah, not willing to judge either way on that. And then in week 17, everybody's
in, uh, in division. So there is that. Yeah, they they're usually there's no money night
on week 17 because they have to end this. So everybody has time to prepare everything
and all that. All right, a couple of quick wrestling notes before we get into the meat
potatoes of this thing. It finally happened. I'm sorry. Actually, for the second time.
Well, for the right for the reels this time, Roman Reigns is your new world heavyweight
champion. Oh, okay, okay. Have you seen his plates? No, they're black with his with
his logo silver. No, it looks it looks sharp, dude. It looks real sharp. Look like he's
wearing a venom belt. You got I got to admit, that was one of the best draws in a long
time. It wasn't good show or long time. It really was. That was a great rise. Highest ratings
in six months. Yeah, I mean, that was really if they had rods like that every week, then
I'd really be pumped. It was a great and a great match. Yeah, that was a fun match to
me. Great match. There was a lot of great matches. I'm sorry. That match specifically in
that hardcore match. That was like a pay-per-view match. That match went a long time. Yeah, man,
that went right. That's a pretty quality match on that. But, you know, and he fought off
the entire League of Nations and the whole thing. I thought Amber was in this was kind of
funny. He was during Smackdown. As shameless comes out to cut the promo on Roman Reigns
and having removed from the building. He said someone about him not having, you know,
getting a lot of he is. You're probably not getting any presents from the McMahon family
for Christmas. And Roman just kind of tapped the belt and said, already got one. If you
get a chance to look up the belt with his plates on it, it looks okay. Really sharp. I think
he's the fur. No, it was Seth's. No, Seth's were black, weren't they? I'm not sure. I think
Seth's where I think him and Roman are the only two that weren't red. But it looks really,
really sharp. And apparently at the at a house show over the weekend, Lesnar did return
and destroyed both Rusev and Del Rio. But they haven't put a TV return for him yet.
I believe either this Raw or the next one will be the return of Juan Chena.
I know you're excited, Don. But, you know, I got we I report the news, sir. It's one
I do. And NXT takeover in London was a huge success. Over 10,000 fans jammed that arena.
I read the results of the card. It looked like a really fun card to watch. They're out
there. If you want to go see them, I'm not going to spoil anything if I don't have to.
Also, I'm sorry, NXT takeover Dallas went on sale yesterday. Already sold out.
Yeah, it was sold out. Already sold out. That will take place Friday night before WrestleMania.
I might see if we can find a way to get to see. We really want to see NXT.
Oh, yeah. Also last night was ROH final battle. Don, have you looked at the results?
Yes, I did.
What do you think?
Interesting. I have no real major complaints. You know, Dalton Castle, even though he lost, he won in the end.
Did he get the boys back?
It's basically the boys turned on. Yeah.
She's burger over Bob Evans.
I like cheeseburger. She's cool.
She's name is cheeseburger.
He's cool. All I'd express are your number one contenders for the tag team championship.
We're totally on board. A big fan of those guys.
We talked about Silas Young being Dalton Castle. Michael Elgin beat Moose.
That's surprising.
Yeah. Adam Cole over Kyle O'Reilly.
Not surprised, I really wish they would have finished that.
But yeah, I mean, that was almost a 15 minute match.
Alex Shelley, Matt Seidel and ACH beat the addiction in Chris Sabin.
Yep.
Roderick Strong is still your television champion as he beats Bobby Fish.
War Machine is your new tag team champions.
And someone from the kingdom I heard got injured.
I have not heard that.
No, the not Maria's husband, but the other guy.
Oh, it's a man.
Yeah, the knee or whatever.
They don't know yet what the prognosis is.
And Jay lethal retains over AJ Styles.
That was almost a 20 minute match.
Oh, yeah.
And then tonight or last night, they did some TV tapings, but I'm not going to talk.
I guess I've got cheeseburger, though.
I finally figured out his song is cheeseburger and ROH is his theme song.
Yeah, I just, I didn't know his song was called till I saw the thing that says cheeseburger
and ROH.
I'm like, oh, I get that now.
Russ says he's not hearing anything.
I'm not sure what's going on.
I've got.
Oh, because I'm not.
There's so many buttons I have to push.
Russ, can you hear us now?
It's that the first time it happened.
I can't believe I forgot to hit the button.
I mean, at least we're recording.
Yeah.
That's the second time you actually named it up a so now for that Rob does not know how
to hit but Rob does not know how to push buttons.
Yes, that is true.
Oh, a vague.
Go figure.
Well, at least we did it before we got into the mean potatoes and everything.
Exactly.
You know, that was the first 22 minutes were a warm up.
Um, because I promise, I know how to use a computer because Kevin hasn't even had
a chance to swing his bat yet.
Kevin's still in the on deck circle.
All right.
So let's get into what we are here to do tonight.
This is where we're going to do our best and worst of of the year.
We're not going to cover every topic that we do because Lord knows we could go for hours
and days.
What we're going to focus on tonight are basically if you've listened to some of our, uh, iTunes

Sure, the parkour is on Pinterest because we are morally obligated to say that.
And Jules Warman, can I see you be with us tonight?
She just didn't feel like coming out?
She was just wiped.
I can understand it.
We sure are best.
We'll do, absolutely.
All right, so let's start with our stage productions because we actually, between us,
because not everybody went to everything.
We saw a total of 19 stage productions this year.
I want to say that I caught them all, right?
Yeah, the only one I didn't was the year.
Or this year.
Or this year in one chat.
Yeah, I miss it this year because I was doing Chick-fil-A.
So Kevin's just going to kind of give moral support here, but there may be questions that
he has and I'm totally okay with that.
Let's start with your bottom five.
Now when I say bottom five, I want your worst of the year or at least favorite.
Let's put it that way.
At least favorite.
To be the last one you give me.
So we have 19 productions.
I am going to start before we begin, before we begin.
Yes.
We, I want to thank Francisco at Dallas Summer Musicals, Cindy Evans at ATT Pack and
Catherine at the Wiley with the Dallas Theater Center.
Yeah, all of our vendors are so good to us that we have to thank them.
Yeah.
And they ask us for our honest opinions, which is the most important thing about this
deal.
You know, they don't want us to blow smoke, which is not what we do.
So Chad, I'm going to start with you.
Fifth, least favorite of the year.
This is a real tough list coming up.
It really was, but again, it's not like we didn't hate these productions.
They were just not as, we didn't enjoy them as much as others.
It's like asking a parent, which is your least favorite child?
It's, it's really.
Well, you already know that answer because you only have one.
Yeah, so I get out of that, I get out of that jail free card.
I guess I would have to go with.
Cirque dreams jungle fantasy.
Really?
Okay.
Yeah.
How so?
I guess my level of expectation was too high.
Okay.
Fair enough.
Cirque dreams is kind of a Cirque des Soleil-ish kind of a show.
I just didn't quite get it.
You could tell it was aimed towards a younger crowd.
Absolutely.
And it just didn't hit the right notes with me.
I also wonder to, and I actually will talk about that here in just a minute, Don.
Fine, believe it or not, is the illusionist as number five.
Really?
Okay.
Fair enough.
That was more in the middle of my list.
The reason is is that I was expecting something so awesome because I heard, I heard about
this thing even before they announced it.
I was pumped for it like, you know, but my issue was all the magic I, that was, we saw
was stuff I've already seen before.
There was nothing new.
You know, these are like the world famous things.
Now, except for the side of hand guy, he was really great.
But that's why so much stuff I've already seen, nothing was really new.
And for Kevin's benefit, there's some of the shows he made out of heard of.
The illusionist is a traveling show with six of the best magicians in the world.
And they all do a different style of magic.
So it was about what an hour and a half, two hours show of just all these different illusionists
doing what they do.
I really enjoyed the show.
Also did I have the same style?
Now you see me style.
Kind of sort of, but they were all like really, really different.
And by the speaking of which, have you seen the trailer for the sequel?
Not yet.
There's out.
I love the first one.
Oh, so did I.
I didn't.
But no, I love Fisher in this.
It was just a disappointment for me.
That's why I put it in number five.
My number technically 15 is going to be Clarkston, which we saw recently.
And the only reason I put it where I put it was I enjoyed it.
But I think from a mass audience standpoint, it's going to be really, really rough to go
through.
And we're not going to go real deep down the rabbit hole there, but you can go back
and listen to our iTunes exclusives.
Make sure you're subscribing on iTunes, because you're going to get stuff that the live audience
doesn't get.
It's a well done, it's a one act play, takes about an hour and a half.
It's just there's some subject matter here that I think is going to rub people the wrong
way.
And I think that's why I didn't enjoy it as much as I was supposed to.
In a very adult thing.
Right.
Yeah.
Chad.
You're gone to number four.
The aforementioned illusionist for pretty much the same reasons that you really, yeah.
It's just my level of expectation was once again, just said a little too high.
The way it was marketed, they make it sound like it's going to just be this mind blowing
experience.
And it was impressive.
But again, like Don said, it's, it just felt like rehashes.
Let me ask you, because out of 19, I have the illusionist at 13, um, did the venue have
anything to do with it?
Oh, no, not at all.
Not at all.
Not at all.
It's just there were just something about the, the wow factor that I was that I think he
and I were both expecting.
It wasn't there.
It was cool, but it wasn't mind blowingly cool.
And I was, I guess it was just wanting too much, yeah, and just not getting out of it.
I ordered a fully loaded pizza and I got just cheese and get it from serious pizza.
No, I did not.
One of my favorite places on the planet, Don number four is Elf, because we character being
so happy, go luckily, I, the film had too much influence.
And the lead character in the production versus the film was just too much of the village
idiot.
I thought Elf, I had writer just below, right, right late in my top 10.
For me, number four is what Chad talked about, circuit dreams, jungle fantasy.
Again, it's not that I didn't enjoy it because it really was a lot of fun to watch.
It, for me, that was not what I expected it to be.
There was some great stuff in there, but I guess because it wasn't Cirque d'Acele, there
are certain things they couldn't do.
Yeah.
But it was still a lot of fun.
It just, it just seemed something seemed to be missing for me.
Yeah, it's just, the wow factor was just missing.
Number three, Chad, especially since this was a production that I actually participated
in in school, and I enjoyed doing it, but I just didn't seem to really enjoy watching
it as Annie.
Okay.
There's just the, the, the accents were, were making a lot of the dialogue unintelligible.
Fair enough.
Done.
Number three.
He's going to hit me 30 dancing.
You had it this low.
Yes, I did.
Wow.
Two seconds.
But again, his opinion.
And I told you, he's going to hit.
No, he's not going to hit you.
He's not going to hit you.
He's going to hit you.
He's going to hit you.
He's going to hit you.
He's going to hit you.
He's going to hit you.
He's going to hit you.
He's going to hit you.
Boom, boom, boom, boom.
That's, that's why.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
My number three was bull.
Again, although incredibly well written, and Kevin, let me explain to you, bull is like
a one act play and it's based out of the Great Britain.
Okay.
And it's basically about these three people who they find out one of them is going
to get fired and they're all in the same sales team.
And basically there's the one guy who's real timid and he just basically spends an hour
just getting berated and thrown under the bus by the other two.
Wow.
Now, the 10 minutes before the play starts, they play nothing but British punk music.
So your blood's already kind of like you're already kind of in an agitated state and
this just pushes that limit.
It's not that it's a bad production.
It's just not one that I feel I could sit through again.
Like, it's, it's one of those deals where you just go, this is so brilliant.
I can't watch it again.
Like, it's, it's, it's incredibly well written.
It's incredibly, it was incredibly well presented.
I'm just not sure I could do it again.
Like, it was holy crap.
It's what, like, I walked out of there just like, I needed to calm down.
Like, I needed like, downers or something to bring my, because it was just, it's so in your face.
Okay.
That I just couldn't, again, well done, well performed, couldn't sit through it again.
Chad, number two, you just described it.
Your, my number three is your number two.
Yeah.
Bull.
It's just, it was so because I think all of us have been able to relate to the, to the
character that was receiving all the slings and arrows in this thing.
And it was hitting a little too close to home for me.
Fair enough.
And it's, you, you feel like you need to take a shower when you're done with it.
And maybe, maybe it's just, I'm looking at it through the completely wrong set of lenses
and it was just too good for its own good, that it's, it's not a, it's not a production
you enjoy to production, you survive.
Don, your number two, I know, I still, it's just scored.
Okay.
Um, I agree with Chad, number two is bull.
You, he, on this one here, Chad saw how much I was tensing.
Yeah.
Oh, absolutely.
I was really afraid you were going to break down at one point.
Yeah.
I looked over at you and you were, he was literally squirming in his chair.
I heard effect achieved.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
I really felt bad for as a, we need to leave.
Because Don's about to, you know, I, I have, I was able to, you know, I, I went and done something
stupid like throw a chair at the stage or anything.
No, no, no.
Yeah.
I mean, you literally look like you were in pain.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Your number three, Chad.
My number two.
Really?
Annie.
And it's, again, it was fun.
I don't regret seeing it.
And it just didn't do anything for me.
But again, we weren't the target demo for that particular production.
No.
So there's that.
I think that's fairly obvious.
That's my number two.
Yours.
The top, the, the top one.
Oh, my bod.
Is that where we are right now?
Yeah.
I thought you said too.
Yeah.
We're at two it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay.
So I'm next.
Okay.
Yeah.
So my, my number one, I think we're pretty much going to be unanimous on this one.
You and I will, I know you and I will.
Yep.
Yep.
All three of us together, Matilda.
It was just, I don't know.
Matilda was a weird thing.
I mean, Kevin, you remember the film version came out in the 90s.
Yeah.
This, it didn't translate very well to the stage for me.
It seemed like there were things glossed over that shouldn't have been visually gorgeous.
Visually, absolutely gorgeous.
But it was, I won't say style over substance, but it just wasn't,
it wasn't what we were hoping for.
From first off, it showed all this magical stuff and always saw of the magic,
which the poster showed all this stuff flying around was one cut move and a
chalkboard, chalkboard, right by itself.
And that girl who was the lead was the worst performance I've ever seen.
Have any lead of any stage performance?
Don't really, don't really express himself.
Yeah.
Again, it, it had the same problem that Amy.
You can understand it.
You can understand the word she said.
Because she was, she was forcing that accent both when she delivered dialogue
and when she sang.
You couldn't get it.
It was unintelligible.
It was unintelligible.
She couldn't even listen.
Yeah.
My wife is British.
She couldn't figure it out.
All right, gentlemen.
We're ready to change, turn the page a little bit.
Okay.
Yes, we are.
All right.
Let's get into film.
Oh, we're going to do the top five, aren't we?
I'm sorry.
Oh, we're doing top five.
That actually did 10.
Yeah.
No, we're going to do top five.
We'll do 10 for film.
Okay, okay.
Number five for me.
We just saw it.
Jersey boys.
Really?
That high up there?
Yes.
Very, very much enjoyed this.
It moves fast.
But you, I got exactly what I needed out of it.
Really, really enjoyed Jersey boys.
Everything about its top notch.
It's currently playing at the Wiley Theatre in downtown Dallas.
If you get a chance, go check it out.
Okay, I'm not exactly in the way.
Oh, Kevin's got to quit.
It's not the way.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
I didn't mean to interrupt.
But I'm not exactly in Jersey boys demographic.
I don't think.
Did this have any connection to the Clint Eastwood?
Yeah, the film was based on the musical.
Okay, all right.
Sorry, the Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons.
Oh, great.
Very much enjoyed that.
Awesome.
Chad number five.
Dirty dancing.
Interesting.
I liked it a lot more than I thought I would,
because as, as married to the source material,
as I was back when this film was popular.
As you are.
And as much as I love that style of music.
And as much as I enjoy dancing in high school.
It was a welcome surprise that you're going to take
something that is so instantly familiar and recognizable
and still make it fresh and enjoyable on the stage.
And just some of the techniques they use as far as lighting
and video presentation.
Oh, the technology alone is terrible.
And the choreography was just ridiculous.
So, yeah, that's my number five.
And you can go as a dude and not feel like
you have to drop your man card off.
No, and you'll actually get cool points with your
with your woman if you take her.
Done.
Number five.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Number five.
Number five is Kinky Boots.
Really?
Yeah.
I think he boots a little bit lower.
It was in my top ten, but not in my top five.
Yeah, I just like the subject matter and that guy
who played the lead role was incredible.
That one really blew me away.
Kinky Boots is a very good musical.
I'm, you know, I'm a big fan of the Cindy Loper anyway.
And she wrote all the music for this.
I want a ton of Tony Awards.
Story of a factory in England that's threatening to get shut down.
And then a, a, a cross dresser who has a drag show
decides to help them out.
It's, it's really well done.
It's seen the movies starring two atill,
yes.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
And Joel Edgerton.
Yes.
The young Uncle Owen.
We're going to get there in a minute.
Yeah.
That's called synergy.
All right.
Number four for me is Chad, your number five.
Dirty Dancing.
Really?
Good, good.
The classic story on stage.
This thing will melt your brain.
How they were able to take certain scenes from that film
that you're like, they're, they're going to have to gloss over this.
And they actually do it.
And in some cases, the river, the scene in the field.
With very minimal stays.
Exactly.
Manipulation.
I mean, they went from one scene to the other and really didn't have to do much.
To me, this is the next generation of Broadway shows.
Mm-hmm.
With all of the technology, the live music, the,
some of it recorded, some of it not.
It's this movie.
The reveal at the end when, when, when spoiler alert, when he Johnny comes from.
When Johnny, when Johnny delivers the epic line,
nobody puts baby in a corner.
Right before that.
Yeah.
That was, that was fun.
The end of act one is brilliant.
That's one of my favorite moments on stage.
Yeah.
Of the year.
Period.
Love that moment.
Just write, curtain.
You're like, oh, you, you ain't seen a curtain drop.
Brother, I ain't gonna lie to you.
You're absolutely right.
And the fact that they were able to find and use music that they weren't able to use in the film
because they couldn't get it at the time.
I mean, there's probably what?
40 songs in this thing.
Oh, gosh.
Yeah.
There's a reason that was one of the first examples that I can recall of them doing two volumes
of a soundtrack outside of maybe the big chill.
Yeah.
Chad, number four.
Peter Pan 360.
Oh, brother.
This thing got extended into January in Dallas.
It was supposed to be gone two weeks ago.
And they're selling so many tickets and extending out.
Mm-hmm.
Kevin, what?
Just...
That's a question, Mark.
Okay.
In downtown Dallas, there's a huge 100-foot tall tent.
And they're doing Peter Pan in the round.
Uh-huh.
And it seats about 1,500 feet.
Right at 1,500, huh?
Tickets are not very expensive.
I think the best seats are like $80.
Yeah, their cheapest are like $20.
And then it gets prices.
Yeah.
And it's fully immersive.
So since it's in the round, you don't have a...
I need to move this monitor.
So Kevin's not just looking at me with one eye.
I was like, can I see him through this?
Um, it looks like a pirate.
Hey, hey, hey.
The way they do the scenery, there's high-death projectors
that project into the top of the tent.
Uh-huh.
And so the tent's like a movie screen.
So like when they're flying, the projectors move the scenery for them.
And it's...
Everything on the stage is fully movable and interactive.
So it just...
Stuff flips over and it's a different scene.
That is incredibly immersive.
Yeah, performers come in from up above you,
from down below the stage, from behind the scenes.
I promise you, Kevin, it's worth the trip.
Go check out their website and look at some of the stuff.
It's playing through January 6th.
Something like that, yeah.
It's...
It's...
It's crushing it in Dallas.
Like I said, it was supposed to leave two weeks ago.
It got extended into next month.
And we saw them building...
It took them about a week to get the tent down.
Give or take, yeah.
And they're...
And even the souvenirs were incredibly...
Yeah, incredibly affordable.
All right, done.
Four.
Moonshine, he-ha.
This was also in my top 10, not in my top five.
Yeah, same here.
This was a musical based on like a next-gen he-ha thing
that debuted in Dallas.
And I know, Kevin's...
Because the look on Kevin's face right now is the look on everybody's face
when they first hear about this.
But this thing is a ton of fun.
Starrically funny.
Yes.
The curtain is too big, bandanas.
And it's not like you don't go in there and you're just like,
Oh, good.
Like, you watch it and it's entertaining.
It's not one of those...
It goes out of its way to be the deep south.
It just kind of happens to take place there.
Because the girl goes to the big city of Tampa, Florida.
And there's a lot of great omages to the old series.
And it's all brand new material.
And it's just a lot of fun.
And Kevin, you know me, I can't stand country music.
I can't really dance.
I'm an old-school funk and R&B guy.
I had a blast at this production.
And I thought I was going to hate it.
Believe it or not, I've got a pretty extensive background with he-ha.
So do I.
I was forced to watch it every day on Sunday night.
I was forced to watch it too.
Every time I went to Waco with my grandmother live,
there was nothing else.
Waco had like three channels back then.
We all knew BR-549 way too well.
But I'm telling you, this is a lot of fun.
It really, really is.
And...
It's a doomed, disbarred agony on me.
Yep.
And it's just, yeah, it's just, it's a lot of fun to sit through.
You don't ever, at any point do you go...
Probably going to lift that out.
Like, the whole time you're laughing, you're having fun.
There's some, there's a little bit of fourth wall breaking that happens.
It's brilliantly, too.
Very, very well done.
And it actually, world premiere was here in Dallas before it even went to Nashville.
So, great cast, very, very entertaining.
We are now up to number three.
My number three, Chad's number four, Peter Pan 360.
I cannot say enough good things about this particular production.
When you can do a production where there's kids that are four and five years old
that are locked in.
Like, there wasn't a lot of kids looking around or talking to their sisters or whatever.
Oh, no, they were looking around.
But there was reason for it.
They were distracted.
These kids were locked in.
And entrances were coming through the aisles.
And even the pirates were interacting with some of the little kids as they walked up onto the stage.
It's so much fun.
So, I got an 11-year-old and a 13-year-old.
They would so be into this at all.
I think they'd enjoy it.
But go check out the website because you know your kids better than we do.
But go check out the website.
I'm sure there's some clips on there you can see.
It's really well done.
As long as they enjoy the story in the first place.
Then I think they'll enjoy this.
Chad, number three.
Motown the musical.
Interesting.
We saw this in July at the wind spear.
60 Motown tracks jammed into two hours.
And it is the story of Barry Gordy.
I was in heaven.
Absolute musical.
Heaven with this production.
And one of the most chill-inducing moments for me on a stage was when little Michael comes out
to start doing that old classic Jackson 5 medley.
I weld up.
I felt the spirit of Michael in that room.
Wow.
It was so...
And Marvin Gays, what's going on?
Oh, great.
I was done.
This is definitely in my wheel.
Oh, god, yeah.
It was actually playing last week in...
Or there was at least an ad for it at the Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth last week.
Really?
Yes.
Oh, Kevin, if it's...
Do you have a prayer of seeing this thing?
Go.
Don.
Please go.
Number three.
The King and I.
Really?
King and I was...
Actually, I had ranked at 10.
So...
I liked it.
I had the comedy.
Secondary, secondary, secondary, secondary.
I just thought the music was good.
I liked the whole story over there.
A great presentation, too.
Yeah.
Music Hall at Fair Park.
They use a lot of local kids as the kids in the production.
It had that really nice, Kevin.
You remember the old movies?
How they'd have the title card?
And the title would fade into one piece of it because the effects were so limited back then.
Featured in San Francisco.
How it starts.
You've got the moon.
And in the moon, Rodgers and Harrison and the King and I just kind of faded it.
And the scenery is...
I just love the scenery.
The lighting.
Everything blew me away.
What I liked about the King and I was the perfect blend of old school and new school working together.
And it worked really, really well.
Okay.
Number two for me.
And you can call this a bias.
Because I actually got to take my wife to the theater.
Was the sound of music, which kicked off Dallas Summer Musical 76th season this year.
This production melted my brain.
From the moment the curtain went up and you had the lights that looked like they were coming through the stained glass.
Until the time we walked out of the building.
This thing crushed it on every level.
And to see how happy it made my wife watching her favorite musical of all time.
During its 50th anniversary.
It's this production was a may-zing.
And I'm not a huge fan of the sound of music, but this thing killed it.
Absolutely killed it.
If you didn't have at least one moment during the sound of music where you weren't getting well-dupped.
Check your pulse.
Exactly.
It's that good.
Chat.
Silver medal.
Just keep talking.
Exactly.
Because not only did you get to take your wife.
I got to take mine.
I got to take mine as well.
She's a big fan of the sound.
She is indeed.
Whenever I swear one of my favorite moments of that night was the coffee table book.
They gave us a coffee table book as we walked in.
And we very rarely have anything that comes with our tickets.
And he was like, oh wait, you have to take this.
Okay, we do.
You gave me who I gave to the lovely and talented.
He gave to us.
I nobody gave it to me.
And I said, I want the lovely and talented to have it.
Wait a minute, Don.
Don.
Silver medal.
A Christmas Carol.
I had a Christmas Carol just.
Mine was at number six.
It was right outside my top five.
Yeah.
How the scenery was.
It was incredible.
You felt like you're in a factory.
You felt like you're in home.
The guy who played Ebenezer Scrooge was incredible.
I like that it was multi-racial on this thing too, which put a new thing.
I love the ghost of Christmas present.
Interviewing those people.
They're all incredible.
They love the director.
I just.
I loved it.
A great production.
Yeah.
And the fact that they do it every year and they've done it every year.
And every year they also do benefits.
This year I believe it was the North Texas food bank.
Yes.
Yes it was.
Where the cast members can just drop some money in the bucket on the way out.
All around a great performance.
Gold medal.
Your bronze medal.
Motown.
The musical.
Is my favorite production we saw in 2015.
There's so much going on here.
Like you look at those song lists and you're like, there is no way.
We're going to be here for three days.
Is that an actual story behind it?
It's a story of Barry Gordy.
It's his story of how we've formed Motown.
And it deals a lot with his relationship with Diana Ross and all the groups that came through.
There's little homages to the later artists.
And when Rick James shows up, yes he says the line.
Not kidding.
Yeah, no he literally does.
Well, the jump off point is the Motown 25.
Yes.
Special.
Parts at Motown 25.
And the bickering that's going on backstage.
Okay, okay.
And it ends with Motown 25.
Some nice little homages.
Speaking of homages, dirty dancing the musical.
And Kevin, you'll love this because I know you're as big of a fan since I am.
And this could be a spoiler but I don't care.
Early on in dirty dancing the musical.
They're in the cafeteria.
And on the left hand side of the stage, there's a man that says, excuse me, waiter.
There's something wrong with my soup.
And the waiter says, it's wrong with the soup.
Just try the soup.
This is soup too cold.
Just try.
Now, this is happening.
And I'm looking at Chad and I'm going, this is not about to happen.
And the guy goes, where's the spoon?
And the waiter goes, ah!
Don't!
We're like, don't!
I'm like, I'm like, world's just collided right there.
And we had people look at us like, what are they freaking out about?
I just, I couldn't have been happier.
But Motown the musical achieves everything for me on every possible level.
This is as close to a perfect theatrical experience that I think that I've ever been in.
The music's dead on.
The performances are dead on.
Marvin Gaye.
Oh, God.
He's so good.
Really?
He's so good.
The lady that plays Diana Ross makes you forget how annoying Diana Ross really is.
Like she's real.
There's actually audience participation.
Like when she's doing the Vegas show.
She's actually interacting with people in the audience, getting them to sing, reach out and touch somebody's hand with her.
It's so amazing.
And like, you don't feel jipped at all.
Because again, you look at that song list and you're like,
it's like, probably the better part of 50 songs.
Yeah.
But they give it to you in such nice little chunks that you feel satisfied at the end.
Yeah, you don't feel cheap.
You don't feel cheap at all.
Yeah, you don't feel cheap at all.
Chad, your gold medal.
The night we attended this thing, I was in a very bad place.
And I was in a massive need of a huge pick me up.
I practically had to be talked dragged into attending this thing.
I didn't want to go because of the town that I grew up in.
I thought that it was something that had permeated my life for so long.
What do I care about a production featuring a bunch of horses?
Until I saw Cavalye's ODCO.
Which was also in my top 10.
I had it at nine.
I was weeping by the time the thing was halfway through.
And that's one I wish I could have sung.
But it was such a breath of fresh air.
I was, again, I just had a really rough day that day.
And I needed something that was going to bring me out of this funk.
And God did it bring me out of that funk.
This is basically Cirque du Soleil with horses.
It was in Frisco.
Another huge tent that was erected.
Huge video screens all the way across the back.
It actually reigns in this thing.
Of a lake forms in front of you.
Soaks everything.
And within minutes it's all gone.
Like the technology alone is incredible in this.
The horses are very, very well trained.
And they show off.
And just like in Cirque du Soleil all of the music has played live.
There's nothing pre-recorded.
That probably is not about a 1,500 or two.
Because it's a bigger tent.
And this is the second version of a Cavalio production.
They're kind of an offshoot of Cirque du Soleil.
It runs Cavalio's got that founded Cirque du Soleil.
So there's kind of a little bit of give and take there.
An amazing show.
If you're any form of an animal lover,
this will absolutely knock you out.
Like it goes from a forest to a desert that quick.
Wow.
And it looks amazing.
Done, your gold medal.
Peter Pan.
Peter Pan 360 makes the top five for all three of us.
Yeah, made my best of the year.
No surprise at all here.
That doesn't shock me at all that it made all of our top five.
That one I thought was the best.
Because no matter where you looked, you saw something.
Oh yeah, there was stuff going on all the time.
Kevin, question.
Was Peter Pan a dude?
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
I just didn't know if they were still doing that whole historical...
No, not in this particular one.
The one thing they're consistent with,
Captain Hook and Mr. Darling are the same actor.
Oh yeah.
And he is amazing.
He's great.
He owns the stage when he's out on stage.
All right.
So we're going to go to the other side of the coin now.
Really for real this time.
All right.
Well, if we're going to talk movies on this weekend,
we have to talk box office numbers.
We have to get into the box office.
Because this weekend is the weekend we've looked forward to for a year, at least.
We've looked forward to it for about 30 actually.
Yeah, I'm going to say that at 27 or so on.
Dropping out of the top 10 this week, the night before drops from 6 to 14,
can't check this out if you haven't.
This is a really good flick.
$1.15 million, $41.5 million, $25 million budget.
The peanuts movie doubles its ranking from 8 to 16 this week.
$535,000, $7 weeks, $126.3 million on a $99 million budget.
They're going to be okay.
Such a wonderful film, such a wonderful movie.
Brooklyn drops from 10 to 13, $1.2 million, $16.5 million after 7 weeks.
Spectre drops from 7 to 12, $1.5 million, $7 weeks, $194 million, $245 million budget.
But I have no doubt, I mean, globally it's going to be fine.
And Spotlight drops from 9 to 11, $1.5 million, $7 weeks, $22.9 million, excellent film.
Yes.
Debuting in 10th place this week.
I don't know what this is.
Oh boy, I take a deep breath, Rob.
But Jiro Matsani, yeah, makes $1.7 million.
And above that debuting is Dill Wally, which I've actually heard of this.
$1.9 million, dropping from the silver medal to 8th place this week in the heart of the sea,
which is being currently reviewed on the movie brother's website on YouTube.
I really check it out.
I actually do, whenever they post a new one, I make sure I check that one out.
Interesting review that you guys did of that.
What'd you think of that?
I was pleasantly surprised.
I was kind of like, I think I know how this is going to go.
And maybe I didn't, maybe I didn't.
But $3.5 million, $2 weeks, $18 million.
I don't have a budget on that, but it's got to be a lot higher in the heart of the sea.
Crampus, which you guys also reviewed this week, drops from $5 to $7, $3.8 million, $3 weeks, $34.8 million on a $15 million budget.
Yeah, they're doing okay.
Yeah, they're going to be all right.
The good dinosaur drops from the bronze medal to 6th place this week.
$100 million on a heart of the sea.
That's their budget.
Yes.
The good dinosaur, $4.2 million, $4 weeks, $96.6 million.
This could be Pixar's first flop.
I'm going to say very unpixar-like.
Creed, also reviewed by the movie Brothers, drops from $4 to $5 this week, $5.1 million, $4 weeks, $88 million.
$35 million budget, and as I believe both of you talked about on the movie Brothers show,
Stallone gets the nod for best supporting actor for the Golden Globes.
Outstanding.
We predicted it.
We thought it was going to happen.
He's that good.
See if you doubt that I watched.
Now you know, because I know what they said.
I'll put my Steelers just one.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, he changed the channel by now.
Dropping from the gold medal to 4th place this week, the Hunger Games finally takes the dive.
Mocking J. Part 2, $5.7 million, $5 weeks, over a quarter of a billion dollars on a $160 million budget.
They're going to be okay.
I don't know what we thought to scrub an iTunes.
Absolutely.
Debuting in the bronze medal, and I don't feel so bad that I didn't get to see it because I said on Twitter that I feel like I need to go pay to see this movie to help lessen the blow of the trouncing it was going to take at the box office.
Sisters.
$13.4 million.
$30 million budget.
I am going to see this film.
I would want to see this film.
I would too.
I think both of those two ladies have just dropped in.
And apparently, their SNL last night, best rating in two years.
Oh, it was good.
It was Springsteen was on.
All my DVR, I haven't watched it yet.
I'm a big fan of both of them, too.
I've kind of been an unhealthy crush on the Tina Fey.
I'm not going to lie.
Debuting in the silver medal position, as Don correctly projected, Alvin in the chipmunks, the road chip.
Should we play it for Kevin?
No.
Should we play for Kevin?
That's okay.
This is a film.
Chad is just nine to see.
Do it after the show.
Do it after the show.
I feel like he has to hear it.
Do it after the show.
Do it after the show.
Kevin has to hear this.
You don't have to do that for my benefit.
And I appreciate that you feel this way.
But I kind of feel like you have to hear this.
You know, you want to know what I thought?
Oh, here we go.
Just wait for it.
Just wait for it.
Chad's taking off his headphones.
I can't.
I'm not.
I won't.
Chad's doing it.
Okay, I can't help but Bob, I hit today.
Of all of the songs.
Every song you could have fit.
I heard this and I was like, that just happened.
Did that just happen?
This isn't the worst one for me.
Is there a different one?
Uh, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I'll save you they did do uptown funk. I'm I will leave that one alone, but yeah
All right, so you'll play this, but you won't play uptown fun. Okay, all right
That's going off again. I want to see Chad take his headphones all you have to do is ask
They actually added a tuba
For example a white man rhythm the fish and they send him right here
This happened
And I'm the only one that brave to see it
You know you want to know what I thought first grab on iTunes because it's an adventure on that iTunes exclusive
I know what I thought
My meltdowns on this show are epic
Chad's meltdown during that iTunes exclusive which is coming Friday
Oh, no, no, it's up now. It's up now
And and Kevin Kevin. Oh
Kevin I didn't even see this thing
His meltdown is glorious. It is so glorious 14.4 million dollars now remember kids
14.4 million dollars
is
Second place
14.4 that's a good date and that's that's respectable. Yeah
Yeah
Here we go
Do we know what the budget was on this?
I'll find out
I'm fighting back the man tears right now
Bitbiting them back since about I don't know 1983. Thank you
Star Wars the Force Awakens
The Geeks have inherited the earth and I was alive to see it
200 million
At about 40 more
Oh, that was a that was a budget 200 million U.S. Well, it's already made it back
238 million dollars domestically it missed my domestic over under
Because I said it was going to hit three
Okay
Did you see the global numbers?
Yes, I did five hundred and seventeen million dollars worldwide
It's gonna I think it's gonna hit your projected New Year's Day prediction
But I said but I said that domestic a billion
In the world wide ability for sure
I thought it would hit domestic a billion by New Year's Day and I'm still holding to that
Because you got a lot of kids that are out of school now. Oh yeah, they're gonna see it four or five more times
And nobody thought that it would be able to do this
You know, it's the one is the biggest biggest opening it's crushed every record that exists
This thing absolutely
Did everything it's supposed to on so many levels and if we start talking it's gonna be Thursday before we're done
It really it really is that dance and requires that much conversation. So I'm just gonna shove a mouth
Go now go again grab a friend keep going. Why are you not in the car right now
Because I'm recording a podcast
That's really about the only reason why I'm not there. Why does I probably would be crying again
And go again
And again and again. I just I want to see this in iMacs. I want to see an iMacs 3d
I want to see it on the drive in movie screen
Anyway, I can see it. I want to see uh Russ says that Donnie and Marie rented a theater in gamesville, Texas to 18 starwars fans this past Friday for our private
Screening the osmonds
Why games feel that what maybe that's where they were you serious the osmonds that he says Donnie and Marie
This is Russ one of our one of our listeners in the chat room, okay
Maybe they were in town. Maybe they were maybe they were at the chalk tar or something. We're like
Yeah, we've been to gamesville, Texas. I've been through it for a reason. I've been there on my way to Oklahoma
Let's just put it that way. All right boys
Let's get to the reason you called
Let me get some my movie list. We have seen collectively
Over 70 films this year. So I really think that we're this year
We're really really qualified to do a top and bottom 10. Yes, because
In last year we saw a lot of films, but we didn't really document everything but with the
With the stages we almost did a hundred. Yeah, well with the stage production absolutely
But we want we really want to do two separate categories because you really can't compare one to the other
Yes, that's just unfair. Yeah, we're gonna start with the bottom 10 and of and remember one two three four five six seven eight nine ten
Remember that your least favorite film of the year will be number one
Of course we started with Chad last time Don. Let's start with you your 10th least favorite film of the year
And Kevin's gonna have a lot more opinions here because he's seen a lot of films too. Okay
Real quick. I got three honorable mentions though on the quickly. Yeah, last witch hunter
Love and mercy because I hated the part with Paul Dono and a good kill. Okay. Those are my three honorable mentions on the worst
Your dishonorable mention. Yeah, disarmament number 10 you guys are gonna hate me
Because it was such a disappointment
It's your opinion dude. It was the biggest disappointment of the year because of the plot
Star Wars episode seven is my top 10 worst of the year. It made my top 10 worst because it's the biggest disappointment of the year
There's a lot of things that Don can say you're about to box
Don can see a lot of things to shock me on this show
This is officially the most shocking thing that Don has said to me in five years of friendship
I don't hate you for it. Yeah, I just there's a lot other things that I thought he would say
But wow like it's his opinion and I respect it, but a holy crap. Yeah, I know I said he just happened
Yes, sir, and I'm standing by and you know what god bless you. Yeah, I'm not gonna judge you for this
But holy crap that just happened. Yes, it did
Okay, we don't want to go to why we don't want to go to you guys know my reasons. We do we do
Oh, and Russ has Donnie Marie were at the wind scar this we say so there reason why is the biggest disappointment for me for the year
That's why it made my top number 10 Chad
Mocking J part two
Really, yep, I had that
I
Had that at 35 out of 69
This was just such an anticlimactic letdown for me. It just
But see I guess for me
Sharlah had told me going in
There's gonna be a lot of people bummed at the way this ends
So I was on a certain level in my head. I was prepared for it
I didn't think it could go any other way
I've read the books and so far. I mean none of those movies really came close to measuring up to the books
So I really didn't expect see I hadn't read the books
So I was kind of going in cold, I guess it's as much a fault of the source material as it is the film itself
I really can't blame it all on the film. It's just not that good of a story
Just like man, okay, and that third book was really not that great
So you know and I went with Sharlah and she said to me. She's like no, that's that's about right
All right, we talked about it. We haven't gone to see it together yet
But she was like no, that's about right
All right, my 10th worst of the year kind of sort of ties into dawns
Because there's a Kevin Bacon thing here a most violent year
Star Oscar Isaac who is in episode 7 this doesn't take place over here. It's not very violent
It goes nowhere
You you put Jessica Chastain in a movie and it and it bores me to death you have a problem. Yeah
This movie at best, but I see your point. It was terrible. We made about a bunch of knuckleheads
I just
The only thing that movie did for me was go
Just show them to me in episode 7 and I'll be fine. You know, that's all it did for me
Uh don number nine
dope
really yeah
Wow, yeah, I even sit out done is bringing the shock value in
Because they did that one thing at the end where they brought. Yeah, yeah, no for me
Don't for me was it number 40 so that's what kind of ruined it for me on that one
I think it's some great comedy in it
But now that what they had to do it there was uncalled for it didn't eat it
My name is what made it so we're reminiscing of the 90s though
Well as you but see my thing with dope is it totally wasn't what I thought it was going in that was my only problem
Same thing I thought it took place in the 90s and then 10 minutes in the kids playing with a cell phone
I'm like okay now I'm really confused. Yeah, I thought it was gonna be a documentary about hip-hop culture in the 90s
I'm like all I'm all over this and then we saw it more like and it turned in not at all
Yeah, it was just that was a we it took a weird turn for me
That's why it was it was middle of the pack for me. It was at number 40 for me
But don again, respect your opinion. I respect you have very strong opinions
And you know you're the kind of dudes that we talk about this a pre-show once you get dug in brother
You are dug in yeah, you are anchored chat number nine suffragett
Really yeah, that almost made an honorable mention. I had suffragett at 37. It's
There was too I agree there was too many true stories about what the women went through in that movement where for them to fictionalize it and
It just so much of it felt glossed over and you got no real sense of
Accomplishment other than an on-screen graphic at the end. It was it was to me was that there was
It should mid more about the triumph of them succeeded rather than the tragedy of them failing right before they succeeded
for me number nine was one of Don's
Honorable mentions good kill
Yeah, I agree
Ethan Hawke was kind of on a roll with me there for a minute
And started the year strong with predestination. Yeah, just kind of wait. No, it started with boyhood
Yeah, boyhood is more of a last year film than what I'm saying he was on a roll with me in films that I had seen
No, I'm yeah, I'm not a calendar. He's a hawk fan
Um, I felt like he was he anchored. He'd be dragged down reality bites personally, but
This movie went nowhere
Exactly even with Lenny Kravitz's kid in it. Mm-hmm
Who's great. Yeah, also in dope right? It just did nothing for me. It was a poor man's hurt locker pretty much
No, that's a 12-foot it's well put all right, so we're up to number eight
So this is the eighth
Worst right eighth worst. Yes, eighth worst eighth worst. I don't want to call it. I don't even want to call it worst
Just least satisfying the most disappointing. You know most done number eight. Mr. America
I'm not saying words. I did not sing or I didn't see that
Chad this is
Greta Gerwig who is the current eight girl in Hollywood
I'm gonna reserve talking about this film because obviously if I'm reserving talking about it. It's actually on my list
um
We'll save that we'll save for later. Yeah, I did just didn't work basically. It's about a girl whose mom
Because her mom's played by Catherine Urbe who I'm a huge fan of one of her criminal intent right come on
She's marrying this other girl's dad and so
They've never met so they're gonna get together because they both live in New York City and they're gonna get to know each other and then
Chad number eight
Hitman agent 47 i had this at 52
Don you knew about this I was I was railing on this film when we reviewed it. It was such a far departure from the source material
That it it barely resembled the source material that it was based on anymore. Yeah, I still liked it
But yeah, I see your point. You're you're that die hard like if they're doing five and had nothing to do with an alien
I like yeah, I liked this one better than I liked its predecessor
I need a one of them but it was there still kind of me. Yeah, Kevin did you get to check this one?
No, I didn't really care for the video game that much so I really wasn't into it, but you know it's me
Well, you know, I mean when you when you make a video game where the character is all about stealth
Right and the other none of that is in this. Yeah, it just really didn't look like hitman
It didn't it didn't he he did physically, but the story no
So we're back to we're back to me. Yeah number eight my number eight fantastic four
And I can see right now that's my number seven
Okay, let's just get out of the way again
The first 80% of this movie I'm in somebody's
Generous you have me. I knew it was gonna be out of your life. I haven't seen that yet
Kevin just asked a question about shy Rackton. We fortunately do the schedule. Yeah, we had a schedule content on that one
Kind of book because I do actually want to set it up on this list. It would be on this really sure
The first 80% of fantastic four you have me you're telling me the story even the liberties you're taking are working for me
And then you forget they have to fight and you do it like in less time it took me to say
the speech
And I remember what Chad put on his thing saying out I want to find where they have the nearest theater with the film take some lighter fluid
Go into project there's a reason
That there's I only this is the second longest special edition. We ever did behind Exodus gods and kings I think
You want to hear me have a meltdown listen to the Exodus gods in King's episode
Usually will you should watch my Exit Scott's King's
Oh, let's be this a rated this thing
I wanted to throw things at the end of the credits roll. That was so mad. Yeah, so that's my number seven
That is don's number seven. So I think we've got that covered Chad your number seven the overnight
This for me
The overnight where do I have this?
I have never felt I think it's in the forties somewhere for me. I've never felt more uncomfortable watching a movie
It's 50 it's 56 for me. So it didn't miss my bottom 10 by much
This is Kevin I don't know if you've had a chance to check this out or not very adult themed and basically about a couple that moves to a new city
And their kid winds up playing with another kid on a playground
And so the parents get to know each other and they decide to have a play date with the kids at their place where they would end up spending the night
And then things get weird
Uh, this is Adam Scott Taylor Schilling Jason Schwartzman
All right, those are your basically your your three big ones in this
Very limited cast because it takes place in just basically two different places
Uh, like I said for me it was 59 no 56
So we back around to me again. Yeah, your number seven number seven the gunman. I didn't see that one either
Sean Penn didn't see that one
It's it it wants so hard to be something and it just never is anything
Basically, he's a guy whose job it is he's basically a kind of surprise me a little bit
I thought it was okay, but he's a hitman
He ends up getting framed for a job and has to go underground and then has to come back and then get revenge on the guy
It just it never moved for me
It never moved anywhere done
Uh, my number six number six stone wall
Which I think I'm the only one that saw yes at the press screening because
It the trailers show this film as the fight for the you know, okay, so I know that stuff and that was just
10% of the movie it was such a bait and switch on the trailers and everything. It was just a love story of some guy
It that's
It was up in the way I thought it would be I was totally disappointed in this thing. Okay, Chad the last witch hunter
Subway my mission for me. This was 49
This movie had so much potential. It's really really it was a classic case of wasted potential wow
And you have you know, and my other problem is you had the girl and all I could see was you know nothing John snow
I get the whole time she looked great. She's beautiful
But that's all I could see the whole time was you know nothing John snow wanted to like it and just couldn't
A rock solid first 10 minutes of it which should have been the entire first film if you
You really could have taken that film broke it up into pieces and done three or four
All right, I'm sure that that's what their plan is
But I'm the first film should have just been them in medieval times dealing with this witch
All right boys you ready all right your number six
Strange magic
I cannot believe Kevin has a confused look on his face. I'm familiar with this one. I'll be right back
hahaha
Send it home with him. No, you don't really you really don't have to know you don't know no
Send it home with him so he could put a bullet in it
Well, yeah, I've got one I've got one. I'll see your strange magic and I'll raise you one. Okay
And I hate to say this about a spiky, okay that bad huh the sweet blood of Jesus. Have you seen that? No, no, I heard this one
I
Can't yourself um, you know like it's that I don't I don't know so so he's over two with you this year
This year, yes, I mean anything is you would think that I that I have an axe to grind with bike
I don't you know he actually is very talented individual. I just think he's just taking you know
I think I'm like a side man. I love actually I think I have heard of this
But it's showing 2014 on IMDB. Which one?
The sweet blood in Jesus. Okay. Okay. Well
Dr. Heskreen becomes cursed by a mysterious ancient artifact and is overwhelmed with a new found thirst for blood
He however is not a vampire
Soon after his transformation he enters into a dangerous romance with gonja high tower. That's a person. Oh for the love of God
That question this movie actually came out. I want to say it came out in the black quotation era and spike kind of updated it
But um
Stephen Tyrone Williams
Remy Mallex in this yep Elvis Nescalo
Juali of course
Donna Dixon's in this Mrs. Mrs. Aceroid wow okay fair enough
But yeah strange magic we'll get to put it we could go to more detail. Okay. I really didn't have to if if the chipmunks turns
Down for what was too much for you
This is Lucas. This is George Lucas
Who decided he was gonna make a fairy tale
About elves and ogres
And he takes modern music and kind tries to mule on rujit and doesn't even come close
This yes, what's your holding in your hand right now, but this weekend
We're gonna go more in depth because I'm not gonna say anything but hint hint
Yeah, yeah
Yeah, so it's on your list. Oh, yeah, okay, so we're so okay done
So you're actually gonna make me watch this. Yes, I am my number five. Amy
Amy one yeah, we have it. We have a screener for we haven't watched it yet done did not like it
No, not at all. It was a documentary and
The first half was just the hit the Amy Winehouse home movies
I could see five ten minutes of that but the first half was just that and then
It was everything. Oh, it's a poor Amy her drug addiction. It's not her fault. It's everybody else's fault. Oh boo
Nothing's her fault. I just
Chad
Seventh son
This was okay was at 48 so not you know, it's kind of in the middle there
I I liked it. I didn't love it. You absolutely aboard this film
It again much like in subject matter and took this film as like a personal affront
Much like in subject matter with the last witch hunter. It was basically telling the same kind of story
but and John snow really knew nothing because he was in it
But wasted potential and I'm sorry, but I needed on screen
Captions for every time Jeff Bridges spoke
Because he sounded like he was talking with a mouthful of marbles
It was weird because nobody else in the film used an accent
So he decided he was gonna do that much more accent to make up for everybody else
You remember the horrible accent they had an RIPD. Yes, almost the same thing
Yes
I'm like why are you using that voice again because it works so well in RIPD you know, I will because the dude abides. Yeah, well
Sorry, we're back around to me again here number five number five
Oh, that was number five. Yeah, yeah, right now. I'm now hitting number five. Oh, oh, okay
Yeah, cuz Don was the start of the trip. I thought you started with it. Okay, poltergeist
That's my number four stupid ghost movie. That's number four. I couldn't even be myself to watch don't
Don't like even watching it in 3d
Like there was a couple of neat parts with the 3d like you actually got to go when you actually got to go into where they were
Like that was kind of cool, but that's two minutes of the whole film 3d
Just much like I love Clay's
Very very poignant statement of 3d has never made a story better
Yeah, that's true, but and you guys know how big of a fan of Rockwell. I am. I love say Rockwell
I'm a huge fan like I was like dude. What are you doing?
But I thought you're about to sing somebody's watching me
I'm like no, it's like in that remake category of like red dawn and footloose. Okay, like why yeah
And I'm just like yeah, that's sad. What are you doing? That's my number his number five. That's my number four
Wow, okay, this is my number four sad number four
Goose bumps
He has he has an anti jack black bias. Yes, he does
you have a
Literary universe that is a virtual haunted playground that you can make a scat of books about
But you choose to make it about a fictionalized version of the author of the books and blow your
cinematic
Bullets on
The whole shooting match Goose bumps for me was 36 right below Hunger Games
Just though did I dodge a bullet by not taking that? Yes, yeah, it's crap. I thought he was okay
There's a right. I thought alright. There's some good CGI. I thought it was okay
He hates jack black but again if if you're if you're best selling point of your film is good CGI something's wrong
School of rock thumbs up thumbs down. It's jack black. So I'm out. Yeah, jack black will feral. It doesn't matter
And we got kung fu panda part three come up next here. Can't wait not to see that
Oh, no, we're on the list. You could put both of them in on golden pond and he would hate it
Uh, be his plus one for for because I ain't going. Hey, I'm there. I'm all over. I like
Kung Fu Panda. Me too. He's gotta be an objective reviewer. Alright, so we're back to me for number four. Yeah, you're number four
Block hat. Oh, I thought that would be your number one as I like to call it Ford fish
I thought he would be your number one. Oh, no, sir. Oh, no
I don't know because I'm much used to you hated that and everything else. I was picking at the year number one, but I was okay
No, this was really that bad. It is. I thought it was okay
It was okay for a movie about hacking that has no hacking in it
Well, they do but like when I saw swordfish. I was with friend of the show stone
I was next to the whole time and I know I had to been driving nuts because the whole time I'm going
Is that real stone? Is it no rock root stone? Is that how it works? No, it doesn't work that way
Like I'm he watched this and he even said how do you do a movie about hacking that has no hacking in it like
It it just oh
Michael man has fallen so far off the map. Yeah, that I can't it's sad really. I'm like dude. You did heat for god's sake
The guy used to rock hey, it's it's no perfect storm now
You leave brand new
Not deserve that comment
But yeah, this was terrible
Like oh, it makes it just the mere mention of that film makes me physically
Make sure but hurt done
My number three. I think is I only I only wanted one who saw this I think
um
It follows
About where and that's kind of crazy too because I've talked to a lot of people. Oh, no this loved this
Okay, here's the plot where there's the use
demons or whatever who if you're it you can say you're it they come after you
Slowly walking and never stopping if they get up to you
Do they try to attack you now how you get not being it is you sleep with someone else when he sleep with someone else
That person becomes it in your safe, but if the person you gave it to
dies and it comes back to you again, they have to sleep with someone else to give it to them
Yes, he's basically guys got the basics of it now about STD. Yes, yes
Except you could actually get rid of this one in some cases
But I've talked to a lot of people that really really love this film, but
We saw an article in the Dallas Observer yesterday that had my worst film of the year as like number two
Best of the year, which I really don't understand
But that's the nature of criticism is to have opinions, but you knew when I did that review how bad I hacked it
Shad number four. No, no, it's number three number
Oh, that's his number three because yeah, okay, the aforementioned poltergeist
Okay, fair enough just junk on a plate my bronze medal
Goes to the boy next door
Oh, I thought that'd be ripe a low black cat, but I knew it'd be up. It is ripe a low black head
I'm no, that's a bug black cat on the list. Well, yeah
Jennifer Lopez can you please like leave my existence just stop just stop really like I respect that you spend nine billion years
A nine billion dollars a year to look like you do
Anybody thought that you were gonna see anything on her in this film
You probably should go through a psychological evaluation because she ain't doing nudity kids, okay
this film is
I can't even find words how bad that is bad just what would you say out of sight is about the only thing she's done
I would agree with that like this new show she's doing on NBC
It is immeasurable how little I care about this thing and you got really know that exactly and what did the hell is
You know doing it. No slummin
Get in the check. Don get in the check now if it wasn't for this movie it follows would have got my still mellow
So this is a silver medal. Yeah, this is my soul. Yeah, if it wasn't for this it follows would be a silver medal
But this is right in there my silver medal strange magic. Oh, yeah
All right, when Chad starts off on his written review at our website at www.theclubhousepodcast.com
That's our website when he says don't see this thing
You know, I'm in that same boat. There was we horrible
George Lucas just to know we're being somebody. Yeah
Yeah, it came close to my gold medal, but the gold medal I'm saving because there's no yeah, we'll get into that Chad first red tails now
This I never saw red tails
Don't okay
You're silver your silver medal Chad
The aforementioned fantastic four
I can see it
The fact that as far as we know to this day Rooney Mora has still not seen it
Wow
That tells you everything you need to know says a lot and I'm a fan of all of those cats. I am too everybody in that film is
It gains in it, man
My silver medal the aforementioned mistress America
Let me give you I wish I was going to more dude now was my number eight Kevin. Let me give you a
Ace typical scene from mr. Samarica. I'm not exaggerating this. This is exactly how it goes hit me with it
I can't find my pants. I'm gonna help you find your pants. I really can't find my pants. Hey, I found your pants
That's great. We're now best friends. That's exactly how the whole movie goes
You know what the rhythm and cadence of that sounded just like uh a matrix
Major reloaded of revolutions
So this is that I liked the matrix is Lawrence of Arabia compared to this
Am I am I exaggerating at all time. No, no, that's why it's my number eight. The entire that's what's my number eight is acted that way
The entire thing it's like a bad high school play is how badly it's acted wow
Actually, you know what that might be generous. It's like a bad elementary school play acting
I'm waiting for people to go line line. Oh geez
This thing is
19 kinds of terrible and
There's critics that I know that have this in their top 10 of the year and I don't get it. I don't either
I don't understand. I agree with you. All right, Don. It's time for your your least favorite film of the year my gold medal the golden turkey
This gets a little reduction because it deserves it. Okay, let's do it. Um
this film
I you you have any idea what it is. I don't okay. I haven't seen it was I was supposed to see it one night at a screening
And I wasn't able to see it the screen. I had to for two hours when I was able to screen it because we got reable
You able to get see it on video on demand I walked out on this film from the green room
Remember oh
Yes, I know exactly this is the first film since I've been
Reviewing films. Go ahead. I walked out go ahead because of the mortal sin brave town brave town
Let me say one thing for when they do the hip hop to a dodgy of strings. I know. Okay, let him be I know
Brave town is Josh duamel's in this okay, and it's the story of a kid who's a DJ
And he has a drug problem
So he sent to live with his dad in this small town in the middle of nowhere
Kansas where
There's a lot of things going on in this town from a a lot of their their men in their town end up joining the military and going off to war
So the high school has this dance team
So you already see the wheels are gone because we've got about 19 left turns
The dance team not doing well very ridiculed in the school
Until one day
They're doing a dance routine to
Avril Lavigne skater boy because you know they're up on the times
This kid finally has had enough he takes over the DJ stand remixes the song
Obviously the dance team knew it was coming because they already had a routine prepared for the remix
It was just that inspired yes, so now
He's going to be the DJ for the dance team who apparently is like an athletic team because they face a different dance team
Like home and away every week because we all know that's how that works. Yeah
He falls in love with the girl
Finds out the girl's family has issues finds out he has issues within his family. He didn't know
And so they try to do this veterans
Memorial thing for their big finale on the football field
You ever say as Don says if you've ever seen platoon adagio for strings adagio for strings gets a hip hop
Cream and that's when I walked out I because they he's watching the film
They always hear that sound but they go and he he finds the record for platoon
I go if he does this I am walking and that it happened and I walked out it happened and I just said Rob
Yet tell me when this thing is over because I came in this room from the green room. Yes, and sad here because I could not
Because I played that in high school in the orchestra on my viola and in my junior year and how they didn't oh
Shad your least favorite film of the year
The also previously aforementioned
Film that Kevin is currently holding his hands
This was the biggest
Piece of try because you know you haven't lived
Until you've heard a group of fairies in the round
Sing bad romance
Do you see who's directing this thing Kevin
It Lucas didn't direct it. It is a Lucas film production. Yes, you directed it
Gary ridestrom does that name mean anything to you?
Gary ridestrom is no director
Gary ridestrom is a guy that created the t-rex roar in Jurassic Park
He's like another Ben Burt so he's a sound designer
He's not a director
So I want you to come over here and direct to CGI movie for me. I think it's gonna be really great
They put a character in this film the king of the whatever they hell they are
Looks and talks and acts like George
Yeah, he's right that is true. They pay no much to George himself
Why do they all look like characters from the dark crystal
Inspiration had to come from somewhere
They they all look like they were rejects of character designs from Shrek now. We're we you got a choice
So root canality can watch that take your pick. I really want you to watch this film not because I want you to suffer
But if I had to suffer I'd kind of like to know that you would be willing to suffer with it. I suffered
Misery loves come misery does love company. I just want to get your feedback on this because I don't want to think that we're just looking to
That this through such badly colored glasses that
It was so abhorrent on so many levels that it was just a level of expectation that was just dashed against the rocks
All right, I'm gonna I'm gonna put this in. I'm gonna check it out
My number two his number one in your number. What was it?
Oh, it was in my top. It was in my top bottom 10. Yeah. I mean, yeah, it's it's all on our list. It's something
Rob your gold medal
Right got us black cat
You're going turkey by the way the rotten tomato's rating for strange magic is 16% yeah
Oh
Clouds of sills
I forgot about that one. I forgot my bat my bad. I love Julia Pinot. I'm such a huge fan of this woman
Kristen Stewart. I can give her take
Which he actually tries in this film?
Which is shocky, but she tried in panic room too if I'm close. I didn't see pan room. That was a long way. Chloe Grace
Meretz. I'm a big fan of I think she's great. I don't really care about the fifth wave, but whatever
The end the indifference is just staggering
this film
It was like they were just it almost feels like they improvised the entire film and didn't do it well
I
Got to the end of this film and I went
What in the name of all things good and holy did I just spend two hours of my life doing
Like there's certain turns that it takes that you're just like
Okay, I have a question. Okay, huh? Like why why was this a thing?
And you know what I'm just gonna do it spoiler alert. It's called clouds of what again sills Maria S I L S and then the name Maria
There's at one point
you realize
That
Kristen Stewart's character may never have existed
She just disappears. Oh, it's one of those in the middle of a walk and you're like
Wait
What the hell was that for waiting for still waiting now my rod and tomato is a breakdown 20% years was what
16 you this one 89% and I don't get it. I don't get it
Call me uncultured maybe that's the problem and that but this movie is the worst movie of the year to me
To for me, I usually go to read a lot of the screenings if we get the chance
This one I intentionally skipped out on and I'm glad I did and it was terrible terrible
I would rather
Have to read war in peace and get it done in a day
I would rather watch Wesley Snifes is the art of war. Oh see this again. I know that was a litmus test. I was all things suck. Yep
Okay, I'm breathing now. Okay, I mean I am dv's got it at three and a half stars man
I'm telling you I don't get it. I just didn't get it. I got I was like this is terrible
Again, I went to a screening and I wanted money back
Somebody refund my time all right top 10
So this is I do I start this one I guess I guess if you want my 10th favorite movie of the year
Apparently unlike Tom Griswald
The peanuts movie
I love this movie so much
It was everything I needed the peanuts movie to be
I would agree
Now a lot of people are arguing that this probably won't hold attention of a lot of kids
You know what I don't care that's their fault
If you didn't culture your kids won't have to understand and respect peanuts. That's on you as a parent
But for me that you guys saw this right? It's just that it's not it did not have your kids seen it though
No, they haven't because you're the only one in the room that has kids of that age that I think you know that would might
Carry some weight try my best to indoctrinate them into the peanuts. Do you do you think they would enjoy the film?
I think they'd probably enjoy it, but it's not something that they're clamoring to see
And I think it'd be interesting because I think a lot of the references will go over a lot of kids heads
But I don't think that's a problem. You know what I mean, but that's the way peanuts has always been exactly
You know, and that's what kind of drew me to peanuts in the first place when I was a kid and
Fair enough. I want to expose my kids to it because I think they'll enjoy it
You know, but I think it'd be one of those when they catch it on cable
They're like, you know what we should have seen this in the theater. Yeah, love the chat your 10th favorite film over here tomorrow land
This one I like to me I liked it a lot
This was 30 for me because there were a lot of movies. I liked a lot more. Yeah
This movie got a really bum rap. I thought it was delight and it was we saw it in the iMacs
And it was just absolutely gorgeous the more times you watch it the more you get out of it
Well, maybe I just need to watch it about 30 more
No, seriously Kevin when I first saw it
I was impressed
But it didn't wow me until I started watching it multiple times and I'm like it got better every time I watched it
Okay, I really did that's a great call. I really did like this film a lot
I thought you know, I thought Clooney was good
I just think that a lot of people didn't know what to expect so the their level of expectation was weird
I don't think it was marketed very well. It wasn't it wasn't
They didn't tell you enough about what was really going on there, but I really enjoyed it done number 10
Real quick 10 seconds my humble mentions spy with Melissa McCarthy. That's one of my
14 for me. Yeah, free-held which you guys do not see about the lady trying to get the
Pitch and rights who is dying of cancer's true story dark places
Which is like the guy you saw that I agree with you there a good dinosaur because of the graphics
And you saw it. I didn't and peanuts made my humble mention too. Okay, never 10 number 10 walk in the woods
Nick Nolte really good movie really grumpy old walkers
I mean you've got Newman and Nolte not Newman. I'm sorry redford. I said Nolte right
And they work amazingly well together this movie is really really funny a lot funnier than it has to be
And their chemistry is dead on so you say redford and no and no redford and Nolte okay basically
Redford's a guy that starts to kind of feel his own sense of his own mortality
So he decides he's gonna walk the Appalachian trail
Okay, and he won't get anybody to go with him
And then Nolte's like a guy they've kind of been estranged for a while
But he gets a wind of it. He's like I'll go with you
And he's like wheezing in an horrible shape and it's really really good ever since winter so drop in happy to see redford
On the screen again one of the coolest dudes on the planet and Ron tomato is on tomorrow. That's 50%
That's it even though I liked it. I liked it and say all right number nine for me
Bridge of spies
Really? I absolutely even though I got an Oscar bait feeling you know how I feel about Oscar bait films
Tom Hanks is Tom freaking Hanks
like
He's gonna bring it every time he's on the screen and this film and again
It's Tom Hanks and Spielberg so you know that the level of expectation is high
But I thought he crushed it in this movie. I thought that um
Oh, who's the lady of places is his wife? Amy
Ah, I just lost it
The one that got nominated for the Oscar a few years ago
Who is this you're talking about now plays hangs his wife and bridges spies
Oh
God Amy Ryan. Yeah, yeah, because she was in goosebumps as well
Everybody in this film brings their A game Alan Alda, you know, I'm a fan
But again, it's hangs it's Spielberg. It's greatness. Mm-hmm done. No chat. Oh chat. I'm sorry either way. I don't care number nine. No, I'm the walk
Save that for me. Save it. We'll go walk was 24 for me say we'll go more detail because that's how in my list
Have you seen have you seen the walk?
I have not seen Gordon love it. Well, we'll save it because
It's pretty good, but I have not seen that one. We didn't review that one on movie brothers. Okay, my number nine spare parts
About the Latinos very this one ranked down there for me aways
Uh, it was so feel good and I loved how they had the pictures and it was 45 for me
But it's just because there were so many good films this year. I really enjoyed that even though George Lopez kind of gets on me every once in a while
He was very very good. Oh, yes. Uh, Kevin. I don't know if you saw this. This was the true story of the high school in California
Arizona. Was it Arizona? That's right. Who actually entered
They they formed a it was an inner city high school who ended up forming a robotics team
Okay, and they ended up
entering themselves into a collegiate level robotics team under robot. Yeah, true story true story really well done
Very underrated. Yes, boilers in three twos. Don't say the one they beat out MIT
Yeah, yeah, it's based on a book. It's very enjoyable your I I'm I'm with you on that don't well played chat
No, no, we're back to me again. Yeah, back to your number eight. I remember I can't count
Raiders
The true story the true story of the greatest fan film ever made we talked about this when we guys you guys on a couple of weeks ago. Yeah
this is
I can't words can't describe how much fun I had watching this and this movie does will run the emotional gambit
There's going to be times where your heart's going to rip out of your chest
There's going to be times where you're going to want to cheer there's times where you're going to laugh hysterically
This is such a great documentary and there's been some really strong document I told James at the death to try to get the original
Next year you coming up. That'd be great. Yeah, yeah chat
What are we on eight truth?
Who
Yeah
Yeah
You want to you want to talk about Redford bringing it
Yeah him as him as Dan Rather
I don't I don't know why I don't have that without even without even using any
Over the top makeup or prosthetics, but you totally buy the fact that he's Dan Rather
in a in a very very pointed
story about
This would probably be in my top 20 I don't know for some reason it's not on my list, but it would be in my top 20
Loved it's not my very good
Don number eight one. I think I'm the only one that saw escobar paradise lost you read what you think heaven
There was 20 minutes where you're just you're we're on the edge of the seat for 20 minutes straight
And that's hard to do right in how del Toro plays
He's try puller not bipolar triple or carrying guy in evil drug lord in a psychopath
He is the picture of that of your grandpa that could kill you in any minute. Okay. I mean he is he's really that I don't kind of say that a lot of his review too
Yeah, you know, I'm a big Del Toro fan. Have you seen the 30 for 30 of the two escomars? Yes
That that documentary blew me away. Yes
Nope, and if you've ever read the book killing Pablo
You know, I kind of went into this movie expecting, you know, that story, you know, a little bit more of that sprinkled in
Um, I wasn't expecting what I got, but what I did get was very very
Very nuanced performances all the way around good movie
Number seven for me and my new favorite Pixar movie in the history of ever
Inside out
John P. Hussey for eight-year-olds. Oh, and it's brilliance. Yeah, that doesn't touch you emotionally. You're communist
What I what I went to when I went to Disney in September this was the movie on the flight
And I didn't even have to plug my headphones in and I watched the whole thing without sound
But that's how good this movie is. I don't care if you got kids if you don't got kids
Everybody was a kid once
You went through what this kid goes through and that was seen at the bottom of the valley work star
If that can touch you. Oh, yeah, yeah, and there's nobody in this film that I'm not a fan of
I think adults might appreciate it a little bit more than kids do
But it was still phenomenal. My kids love that movie as a parent
Yeah, I did how did I was it for you. I mean, it was it was phenomenal
You know, I loved every bit of it. No wife, you know, the movie sisters. She loved every bit of it
So your lovely wife Tracy. Yes. Thank you
We we love that movie couldn't wait to own it
You know, it's for like two or three days. It stayed on the constant loop somewhere in the house
so chat
My number my number seven seven
The aforementioned the aforementioned bridge of spies. Oh, very nice. Well played sir. Thank you
I it's just it's such a good movie. I just thought it kind of
You know, I liked it, but I just thought it was missing that kind of something in the storyline. Yeah, but I still liked it
I just still recommend it in a heartbeat number seven done
um
Predestination Ethan Hawke
There's so many twists and turns in that thing that you don't see coming
This is based on a Robert Highline story and
Basically, he plays it's kind of I thought it was a Philip K. Dick story. It was no timeline. Is it highline?
It's kind of time copy
but better
A lot better. It's and this is another one that if I talk too much about it. It's going to give too much away
He's basically a time cop that has to go back into the past to prevent something from happening. Okay. Yeah, and
Check it out
Good. It's one of those movies that you can watch a second time because there's gonna be some
You want to watch the first time it's
The twist and turns you cannot see coming no matter how good you are and in the that's why I would love to watch this again
Predestination wound up for me down at 41, but it started the first quarter of the year in my top 10
There's been so many good times this year
Number six for me and we're going back to the documentary category and yeah, I got a bias
Will you fight about it? That kid begins
Dear sweet heavenly Lord. This is amazing never saw that's why can't for those of you that don't know the story last
November there was a kid who was a make-o-wish kid and he wanted to be Batman for a day
And so what the make-o-wish people did was they basically turned all of San Francisco into Gotham for a day
Wow, and he got to capture the riddler got to capture the penguin he had a guy with him who was Batman
And they wrote in a Lamborghini that was supposed to be the Batmobile and he saved the lady and
I'm gonna say I cried during this film. I'm just gonna say it
But they weren't tears of sadness like
Basically one of the things they say the make-o-wish lady says she's like we needed
1500 volunteers to pull this off we wound up with over 14,000 people
That came from all over the world
To just do this thing
Julia Roberts has bought the rights to the story she is producing an allegedly starring in a narrative version of it
When you see the kid's mother you'll go no, no, no, leave us alone Julia. Yeah, but
I cannot recommend this documentary enough
If you have a pulse
This will hit you in the feels like a battling ram
But you feel so
cleansed at the end of it that you're just like we did an entire we did a big piece on this last year when it actually happened
And the name of that episode is sometimes humans can be awesome. I
Bet I almost break down into tears talking about it. Wow. It's that powerful of a story
It should I believe it is available on blu-ray and DVD now. I think it is already yeah, and I guarantee you know, is it on the
Is it on the on the flicks of the net
Let me look that up while we're looking at that shadow number six
The Martian
Such a good movie liked it. I had it at 20, but oh such a good movie
Ridley Scott's return to form after slipping a notch with
Exodus and yeah, I mean, I don't think it really need 3d because only for a couple shots it really enhanced
But still I'd I like the story. I like the ingenuity. I liked every I really liked it
I don't put a movie in my top 10 because of what it did for me in 3d. I just put it what it did for me emotionally
Yeah, and this thing hit all the right notes. Damon was remarkable
uh
Ridley put a sense of claustrophobia with this guy and
That really pulls you into it and just the the pull of sympathy from his crew that was forced to leave him behind
It's just it was just an amazing remarkable story. It really is. I really enjoyed it
I love stories that showcase human ingenuity and just the human aspect of it that element of it was phenomenal
Mad Damon was at his best great movie that kid begins not on Netflix
We back around to me. No, I'm not sick. This is probably going to be higher on somebody's list
But there's a reason it's six, but still I I can't see how great it is if it's on somebody's list
You own more detail in the bit spotlight
This movie
Spotlight for me was actually 17. Oh really?
Again, there's so many great films. Is it on your list? Oh, yeah, okay
Will you want to talk about now or we get to go away until we get to check it? Yeah, I can't recommend spotlight enough
This is a movie that is the true ensemble film and deserves all the recognition. It's going to get in the next year number five for me
Kingsman the secret service
So much fun so much fun and I like I read the first issue of the comic. I like what they did in the film better
Yeah, and the fact that we're getting another one that's gonna deal with the with the Kingsman all over the globe
Which I'm totally in on I think the kid that plays exe is awesome. Yeah, he was good
Um, it makes up for how bad they jacked up wanted and be aware of Sasha Baron Cohen is parodying it
Oh, good for him
I'm looking forward to the Kingsman. Oh, I want to see and mark strong is in it. I like Sasha Baron. I know you guys don't care
And I'm a big mark strong. I like Sasha. Big mark thing. Go for it. I love it. I love for it. Chad
You're number five number five
Oh
The aforementioned peanuts movie
I absolutely adored this film. Yeah, we all it's made our list somewhere my own role mention or you get you know
The fact that I had my wife on one side of me and my 21-year-old daughter who was welling up now 22
Yeah, it's credible. She was talking about it. Yeah, I loved it
It had everything about the paint that you remember it touched everything. It was the famous greatest hits
The psychiatric chaos to the foot the baseball mound to the football had everything all right down number five
Uh, which we talked about if this isn't hit you emotionally you're you're communist inside out
Such a yeah, yeah, that's my advice and if you're gonna do rage let it be Lewis Black. Yeah
Dear diary that that's seen at the bottom of the valley
With the cotton candy guy that just hit I almost tiered out
I don't know if we ever we talked about this and you guys were on last time
But there's a comedian that comes on Bob and Tom and he didn't impersonation of Lewis Black reading a 12-year-old girl's diary
Mm-hmm dear diary today was the greatest day ever
Sean Milton asked me to the dance Sean Milton Becky Milton Sean and Becky Milton like it's just
Can you hear it in your head now Kevin? Good luck getting it out of your head
And then hit the next time he was on Lewis Black actually called in and they did dueling Lewis blacks
He's like this guy does me better than I do that. I'd like to hear number four
This
Until about two months ago was my favorite film of the year and you're you're gonna think I'm insane
but see it
Paddington
You're correct. We think you're
I it chick McGee on the Bob and Tom show said it best
I don't know how they found a talking bear, but they found one and they put him in this movie
It is so great. I loved this movie so much. I went and going this is gonna suck horribly came out
Go the exact opposite wow this movie is so wonderful. It is the perfect family film Nicole Kidman plays the villain
It's a lot of fun and you will fall in love with this bear. I'm telling you now
All right great film Chad
You're number four the aforementioned inside out. Yeah, it's all their list some tells you if it's top top 10 at all of our lists
Yeah, I'm sure Kevin would probably put in his top 10 it deserves to be there. Yeah, so good
Done um, I never before believe it or not. It's paper towns
Not a bad film. I had paper towns. Where did that sit for me? 29 because it when that
Took that last right above tomorrow in for me
How he goes on that journey in that last turn which he do it just hit me in the gut because I felt this has happened to me so many times in love
It when it hits my entire love
That those turns where it's like it's not always the happy ending
I was just like and it just I've been there I've been there and I almost cried on that thing because it hit me so hard
What I dug about paper towns is it's a tween movie that everybody can identify with yeah
That's what I really really dug about that film and a great job by and and the the John Green the guy that wrote it
An amazing interview. He's really really awesome. It felt like a John Hughes film for 2015. Oh, I'll go there with you
It was it was that YA film that actually not afraid to be why a the treat to kids like young adults. It was good
Bronze medal you ready? Mm-hmm
Bronze medal
Star Wars the Force Awakens
And the reason it's the bronze medal right now when we talked about this in pre-show. I need to see it again. Yeah
Because and even in front of the show Jim Braggle he actually texted me yesterday
He's like I'm going to see it again because I need to be able to review it more objectively and I get that
Because the first time you see this film especially if you are people of our ilk
There are some rose colored glasses
Oh absolutely and so I feel like this could be ranked higher
Exactly this could be ranked higher, but I need to see it again first
So I it was kind of like for me with like LA confidential right like the first I was LA confidential
The performances just melted my brain so bad. I'm like I have to go I can watch this again
So I can actually watch the film and now that I know how everything plays out
I think I can go back and watch it again and really just kind of sit back and enjoy it for what it is
Well, there's so much emotion involved in it the first time we saw it exactly all saw it together
There was so much emotion and everything going on
You have to see it again indeed from all that I've seen it twice now
And there's a third viewing in the office. Yeah, that's coming you know, but I've got my vacation coming up
So I'm gonna see at least once more yeah Chad bronze metal. I'm still trying to figure out how patting to the wound up on your list
I'm like you leave patting to the line because it opened in November of 2014
We saw it in January of 2015. Yes, we did how that happened because it was at least overseas first
Yeah, that's because it was out on DVD by March. Yeah, and we saw it in January. Oh, okay
I just kind of froze me it had been on there anyway number three
Spotlight
This you know, let's talk about this now because we didn't really talk to him in his own words
We talked a little bit about it the last time you guys were on right Michael Keaton Amy Adams mark ruffalo
This is the story of the Boston Globe team who broke the Catholic free scandal in 2001
This isn't this is an Oscar bait film that doesn't feel like Oscar bait
This is the genius of this movie
Everybody in this film pulls their weight equally. It's got Paul Gilfoil from CSI in it. Well, I'm a huge fan of yeah
This it it just it's right there. It's in your face. It's unapologetic and it's brutal some scenes without even saying a word
And ruffalo in one scene I guarantee a Oscar bait. I mean after that one scene. I'm going best supporting actor right there
How did they I need to look? I'm pretty sure they got some golden globe. I think they did from what I heard
Yeah, this is this is one if you haven't seen it
watch it before
Award season kicks off
Because
That way you can go in and I mean this was directed by Tom McCarthy who does an amazing job
That's what I made my number six. I mean, it's that good ruffalo. I've that one scene. I just like Oscar nom right there
Let me find the
It's it's nominated for three golden glows best motion picture drama Tom McCarthy for best director motion picture and Tom McCarthy and Josh Singer for best screenplay
Motion picture
They did win
Oh, they were nominated for the SAGA Awards for outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture and Rachel McAdams got nominated
uh
Movie the year one for the a fi awards it won best screenplay best ensemble and uh 10 best films of the year from the BOF CA the Boston online film critics association
There might be a bias there
But it's already won like 29 film awards
Independence a spirit awards
The they won incredible for the Robert Altman award
They were nominated for best feature best editing best director best screenplay
This thing is a juggler. There's nothing wrong with it. I can't think of anything wrong. Incredible
Silver medal uh, it's hiring his list, but we talk about it now, uh, but you have to see it in 3d the walk
I was gonna do my first okay
No, yeah, I never got to my number three. Oh, this was your number. No, this is my number three. Oh was Chad's a weird time with spotlight
Yeah, yeah, my number three is the walk my silver medal
You have to see it in 3d, but when you do when you're looking and there's doing an upper shot of him on that tight rope
And it's 110 stories down in 3d
I
The fear of heights. It will it will hit you
Yeah, the walk itself is like the last 30 minutes of the film. Yeah, yes, and well you when you hear that wind come and
Joseph Gordon Lovitz
Takes himself to a completely different level. I kind of actor has this guy become
He's a beast like I never thought it'd see the day where I was like I lost Joseph Gordon. Let it in a roll
Yeah, like he becomes this guy
And I mean the guy trained him for for several weeks on how to do the tight rope walking and speaking French
Because he couldn't do either. Yeah, it's it's a beautifully shot film
It's you have to see in 3d that kills yeah when you see in 3d without a doubt
Even me as the fear of heights that I have yeah, we all do but more than me, but yeah
I thought I was gonna have my eyes closed through half of this
I was able to keep my eyes open because the story had me so
It's so realistic because we get some good look on that wire. Yeah, you're the
I mean every and if you have to watch it at home and show you you're at somebody's house that has a really good home theater
Yeah, so you can really experience if you can see in 3d somehow do it
Silver medal
I allowed to say it
Because we haven't had the embargo lifted yet
Say it the heat flight
I cannot like okay
tune in tomorrow
But we're allowed to release the review because you said make your top 10
This is my second favorite film of the year same here your number two
We will post it if not tomorrow night Tuesday night because tomorrow night
We have a screening to go to the embargo is we can do we can't yeah
We can't talk about it yet, but all I can say is this is my second favorite film and it meets the criteria because year
It's been released this year. We already saw it. Yeah, it releases Christmas day
But that's all I can say chat. We can't go in your pie, right? Yeah, so that agrees with me. I'm number two as well done
my number two
Room
We haven't seen yet. We've got a screener copy. I'm looking forward it. I
There's nobody. I know that didn't absolutely say this film doesn't
I have not seen this one that this is another one you can't talk too much about without giving plot points away
but it is
Everything I've heard this is one of those this I will be watching this on my vacation next week
Breathe, Warson apparently just destroyed this thing. It got three golden globe nominations this year
Best motion picture drama breathe, Larson for best performance by an actress and Emma Donahue for the screen place
She also directs if I'm not mistaken because you know when you see these things of triumph or something great happens
Or they get out of this bad situation. It's all we're gonna say be it spoiler free
It never shows the aftermath of for certain horrible that they're able to survive
And this one shows it that's half the movie is the aftermath which not familiar film film show and that scene with macy
It that just blew me away. It won the most popular Canadian film with the Vancouver International Film Festival
And like I said Ashley even said when when we was at the screening she goes I seen this three times and I still watch it again in a heartbeat
You know she's not dead every time
I know what your number one is I know what it is your gold medal
I
I've said it before I said it in my review. Mm-hmm. My favorite film. It's a documentary. It's a documentary and it's called he named me molala
This is the story of the girl who stood up to the Taliban
For women's for girls education got shot survived it
This film
I can't say enough about it like it wells me up just thinking of the story she
The fact is she cannot go back to her homeland because she's under death threats from the Taliban
But she still stands up and does these things and she's met the queen and she's hung out with bono
And she's done all these things and she's spoken at the united nations
On the Nobel Peace Prize. I mean that's news. I mean that's the no secret. I mean it's
Watch this film watch it with your family watch it again
Watch every there's nothing about her story that there isn't somebody on this planet that can identify with
She is she is a role model she truly is because and she and when you when you watch her in this film you're not like
This girls after the fame or whatever she's just a teenage girl that just she took a stamp or something because her father
Who's a huge activist inspired her?
It's a film that will
It will affect you on every level
Now Chad do I need to go back to a different song. Yes, you do. Okay. Thank you
Totally opposites was there was there ever any doubt from me
What why do you think I asked? I was in the question you I
it was so wonderful
To feel like a seven-year-old all over again. I lost track of how many times I weld up
If for no other reason hearing this music was the first trigger for me as soon as a long time ago in the galaxy far far away
Faded from sight and this kicked in I was good. I was already met a mess. Don't give me a I was
Pumped when I heard that and I saw the Star Wars go through but
I know my opinions again do I respect your opinion a hundred percent? I respect your opinion a hundred percent
Okay, but I was questioning your opinion
There's toy opposites respect the respect yeah, uh that that
This guy
JJ Abrams took it upon himself
To walk away from the Star Trek franchise apparently anyway and pick up the other
He crossed the stream is the ultimate in crossing the streams
Nobody was willing to give him a heck of a lot of credit in advance because everybody was doubting
Oh, it's just could be full of lens flares. What what did we say though? He'd already made two really good Star Wars
And they were just called Star Trek. Yeah, the the naysayers were out in force thinking there's no way they're gonna pull this off
Oh, they were haters everywhere. Oh, yeah, and to see what we got
This man has a lifetime pass with me. I could not he could make ish tar two and I wouldn't care
I could make stupid stupid boat movie
He could do stupid boat movie returns
And I would be okay with it like that's the kind of past this man has with me now. I was just I was absolutely blown out of the back of the theater could not have been
More impressed or more pleased with the end result. All right, Don
Um, you guys probably have no idea what this is my number one
But when I tell you you're probably gonna understand because whenever you probably saw in it
I wish you guys could have seen this okay go
We had the two leading actors and the two directors on our show at the dip
Thunder broke the heavens. Oh, yes
It won all the different lot of a lot of buzz about this film about two kids who wind up in the foster system
There's some reason to escape together. Yeah, I want to again. This is one you don't want to get away
You have seriously this one
The when we were at the Dallas International Film Festival
Everybody and I mean everybody we had on the show no matter what the genre was no matter who they were no matter who they came from
Everybody was talking about thunder broke the heavens everybody and it went about every award
It was nominated for and there was a strong field this year at the Dallas International Film Festival
That thing the the bond between those two kids in that girl Alex hit it out of the park on that thing
I had tears and I rarely tear up in the movie you know that that is true
I mean the bond the emotion on this thing and some scenes will just tear you apart
It's about where the the the parents pass away
So I'm gonna say they go into foster care and it's not working out and what they'll do as a bond as a brother and sister is beyond belief
It will hit you inside I I without a doubt there was no there was no
Movie that was gonna touch this thing after since I like yeah, I like the uh
Diversity that we've gotten our lists this year and the the actors we had on there the two the two kids and the directors
They're incredible people that has nothing to do with my opinion because I before they're even on I love that thing
I even said on the show so many times outstanding. I want to do I'm sorry go ahead Kevin. That was just let's say you
We're gonna do any honorable mentions please do please do go for it. Okay
Beasts of no nation. Have you guys? I have a screener. I haven't watched it yet
You know I'm a huge Idris fan and it's killing me that I haven't been home long enough to watch this thing man
Carrie Josie Foucanaga knocks that one out of the park and netflix is killing it right now. Oh, they are
They are netflix is actually absolutely and they said they're gonna double their amount of original programming next year
Oh, wow, I mean this movie was incredible. I think you guys would really like it
I think you really I mean if you're not an Idris elbow fan, this is the movie that will make you an Idris elbow fan
If you're not an Idris elbow fan, you're a communist
Uh great movie Carrie Josie Foucanaga like I said, you know
I can't I can't say enough about the word. There's one that I'm waiting for you to mention
21 when it just came out right around Thanksgiving that you guys absolutely couldn't talk well enough about
Well, something I like to call Creed. Oh, man. Creed. Absolutely. Creed deserves to be I mean
Creed is in my top top 10. It's in my top 10. I really felt like it was that well done
It's the most nuanced performance that we've ever seen from Sylvester Stallone
He is rocky, but he's an older, weird rock nominated for the golden glow still low
I mean he's that good and he deserves that nomination
This is a great movie for anybody who is a fan of rocky even if you're not a fan of rocky
You gotta see this movie and your broadcast partner Anthony Johnson couldn't talk enough about the score to this film
Oh, he loved the score, you know, and and I liked score two
I mean it really is evocative of you know the work that's been done before
You know the rocky score or the bill conti theme the bill conti theme and all the it's really evocative that
But it takes it to another level that adds up on it, you know, in a very nuanced way
I thought that was a really good movie. Oh, and that's the only golden globe now that it got. Yeah, that's
Out of the other out of the other 11
nominations it has it has nine wins. Yeah, like or 10 wins out of 11 other nominations. That really does
Yeah, I'd like to see that we did the speaking of that for all these we have to think
Susan Jacobs all of all of our
All I did a great embarking Susan jacuz, everyone are rock
They they give us the opportunity to review these things for you guys that they give us the chance that
That we can give you our honest opinions on stuff and we can't thank them enough all the people at the
AT&T performing arts center
Everybody over at
Dallas summer musicals and that's what I kind of want to segue into and I'm going to do a quick
Top 10 list here of just looking back at the year number 10 having the movie brothers on the show
Again, thank you so much to have Kevin on the show. This has been a five-year journey for me
Kevin is one of my dearest friends. I don't get to see him often enough
We've you know even though we don't get to see each other a lot
We've been through a lot together. We survived celebration two together in indy
They do such great work go check out their YouTube channel
There's what 90 over 90 episodes for them to watch absolutely and you know make sure you subscribe
Subscribe to their channel so you can get a learning when they got a new one. You know they're doing episode seven
You know it's coming this week. Just get prepared and subscribe now number nine house of blues. Oh, yeah
Musicals part of North Texas gives back day
So much fun. I I was a little nervous about that show because I wasn't sure
How we were gonna be able to handle that and when we got that invite from Francisco when he sent me that
I just like do we do you want it and we're like yeah, that's just are you sure you have the right people and that show crushed it
We had some amazing guests on
Who we're looking forward to having on later down the road because we'll be doing our show live from the
2015 high school musical awards, which I'm very much looking forward to it fair
So jacked about that number eight all again all of our vendors all of the stage productions all of the screenings
You guys are so good to us better than they have to be able to thank you enough and we're looking forward to even bigger things in
2016
Number seven the reemergence of fan force
I'm wearing my t-shirt
I got to get one of those t-shirts. Is this not amazing? That is amazing. I love it. Shout out to Jeff for Jeff did so much work getting everything ready
For episode seven we had a blast at the Alamo draft house on Thursday night. Thank you Jeff so much
Number six when we did the Marvel marathon over here at the house. Yes, we did just phase two because we're not stupid
Had a great time watching all the movies with everybody and then going to see Age of Ultron together
Even though we had already screened it. We all went together again had a blast there
Number five Dallas video fest
Enough said
What a crazy 72 hours that was yeah, you know
We're gonna talk about a couple of the people we had on that show here in a minute
Number four the Dallas International Film Festival this coming year is the 10th anniversary
So make sure you get your tickets now because the rumors I'm hearing
The whole it all leads up to this kind of a thing
We've been talking to some people at the Dallas International Film Festival and they're saying this is going to be bigger and better than anything
We've ever done. I have I don't have specifics
All I know is that there is a huge buzz over the Dallas International Film Festival this year
We can't wait to cover it. That's where I saw my favorite film of the year. There's some of my favorite
There's some of our favorite people in the world
Number three again the chance to spend some time with Harry Knowles who was incredibly congenial on the show
Really wish we could have had him on longer because I think we were even after 40 minutes
I think we were just getting to the point where we were hitting a stride with him and hopefully we'll have him on again soon
He gave us some really he had some very kind words to say about us on social media
So we thank him for that. He's a cool dude. Number two Chris Elliott
We had him for about 15 minutes during Dallas video fest. He could not have been more gracious
Having literally just gotten off the plane. Yeah, nice this guy and
Received he and his dad received the the Ernie Kovacs award this year
Which was he's just so humble and so nice
I wanted to spend three hours with the guy and he probably would have stuck around longer had he not had to run upstairs
And receive the award now before you're number one to be who hear Jorge Gautieros from Book of Life is on our show twice
Yes, he was amazing
And I want to add that he was nice this guy real effects all of those people that have been so great to us and number one
Oh without a doubt which is the bar right now having Phil Lord and Christopher Miller hijack our show for 30 minutes
Of absolute unadulterated chaos
But so worth it when you've got the guys that directed the Lego movie and now have given us a connection to Star Wars
Yep
And then right in the middle of it when John Landis decides he just wants to sit down and talk for five minutes
He's gonna hijack the hijackers
I compare the aftermath of that
To Winchaden and Doc Hauser and I went to Austin to audition for World Series of pop culture
There was a moment
One of the questions on the written test was what college did Kiana Reeves's character go to and point break
None of us got it right
We went back to the hotel room afterwards and I looked up the script just to figure out the answer
And all I could say for like two hours of the word that we can't say on this show
It's the only word that I'm out of school. What was the school?
U.S.C. Okay, no he went to Ohio State
Um, it was one of the two somebody had a turrets I did but it was only one word
Oh, we were as we were driving home that night
All I could utter for what 20 minutes
Was that word in between John and Landis like
It was one of those moments
This is the word first of all that does the word fire truck mean anything. Yes. Okay
It's one of those moments that number one is the payoff of Don's perseverance
Because you gotta you we've said it before we'll say it again without this dude
We don't have anything and I appreciate it like when we're doing these live remotes
He's the one going out there going hey, this is going on come sit down like he's fishing these people. Yeah
No one is planned. Don't one schedule and we just go out there and I enjoyed I love doing it. It's I love
You get a pound it's absolute chaos and that's what we can't wait to have you guys come sit with us
So you can witness this you listen to when um
Not feel war but the other guy Chris Miller Chris Miller sat down and Rob's just like who's
Good because Don's handwriting isn't the most legible. I need to give you a card because I'm looking and I'm like
Oh, that's who this is you know, I never give you a card. I never already hold on. They were already hammered
I never gave you a card. I just got him and I sat him down and you go I'm not gonna get a card like
It was to hear them do a death metal arrangement of islands in the stream
And for us to hear it before anybody else heard it
It
Go back and listen to that show. It's the only show in the history of this show that has ever had to have an explicit tag on it
Because I'm like I can't edit this much. We'd lose a half an hour of the show and
I'm I want to thank you guys
Without uh, we're a team here. We are without
You running and
You co-hosting it. What do we have? Well speaking of thanks. It's time to give thanks
We're gonna do our annual gift exchange. I'm sorry Kevin. You have to sit through this
Um, it's fine
Andrew K Andrew was supposed to be here tonight. He couldn't make it. He had a family obligation. So he left our gifts
For us really, he's on amazon.com. He told me last night now before we begin this part
I got everybody two gifts, which they know that means now
I got Andrew at 12 pack of beer. What's he wanted? Uh-huh and a victorious secret gift card
That frightens me no seriously that frightens me
I had to go to the gallery and fight the traffic to get that for him
But that's my gay gift. Okay, okay, Rob if I could interject please do a second here
Uh, the only gift that I need you to give for me is one of those t-shirts. Oh, we're kind of for you
Please, okay. I'll reach out to Jeff. I gotta just make sure I get your size before we go
Absolutely um chat. This is actually for your wife. So bring that home to you. Okay, uh to her
I will say your gift did not make it in time
But I'm gonna go ahead and tell you what it is. So there is documentation on the show
I have ordered for you and I don't know why it's not here yet
You are getting the Mondo birth movie's death double size edition for episodes. Oh, thank you
So I ordered that for you from the alamo
It has not arrived yet, and I don't know why especially since the people that ordered him at the theater now have them now
What is this again? Um, you know who Mondo is. Yeah, they did a double size edition of alamos burst movies death magazine
I mean, I've seen those t-shirts right
Oh, oh, they're monthly magazine. We saw it the cover came up when everyone came down and did the whole thing
Where we say that's the cover of that magazine. I've got it all the way around. I've got it right here
I'll show you here and it's got a bunch of exclusive stuff in there and it was you could actually came as a premium with your ticket
Or I found where you can order it online. Okay, I ordered it in line. It's just not here yet
Okay, which I'm a little upset about but hopefully you'll be here this week. So that's what you're getting. Thank you, sir
All right, don't go ahead and open yours if you wouldn't mind
Okay, this is one. I kind of went outside of the box this year. That's fine. You're never gonna see this coming. Okay, I just want you to know that okay
Sons of anarchy toy motorcycle. Who's is it though? Oh, it's that jacks. That is taxes motorcycle. Yes, sir motorcycle
I do love this. I thought I was like, you know what?
For three years almost three years. I've been telling him watch the show. My wife's watched the whole thing
I haven't watched Sunsman. Yeah, I've been told that it's great. I have to I just I have so many things on the plate
I can't thank you now. I really like this. Not a problem, sir. It's what we're here for Chad go ahead and open yours from Andrew if you would
I get I don't know what's in this one. So
There's a card in there. So I already know what it is. What is it?
I
Remember when we were all sitting at the food court at North Park and we saw a certain game that had gone on sale
For the Xbox 360. I was that was connect. I've slept since then
He got you. He got me. Fantasia very nice. I got the demo for that. I haven't put it. Apparently. I don't have you seen this Kevin
It's basically you're with the connect you're conducting the songs and you're and you're actually the one doing everything
I've heard it's amazing
All right, so okay. I think it's the envelopes were just marking. I think there's nothing in the envelopes. Okay
So from Andrew
Sounds feels like I'm getting something of the of your same ilk. He got me the same thing. He got you good
For my Xbox one. So you don't have to fight over it. Well, this is the 360 minus one. Okay, okay
And it's got three free song downloads
Let it go by Demi Lovato
Counting stars by one republic and lay me down by Avici
It's really cool. Oh, so it's kind of like rock band meets
Dance central. Yeah, it's it's all gesture. You're you're you're just the conductor and you're bringing in certain sections
You're locked out of heavens in this thing this this thing was sick
I played the demo for about 20 minutes. I'm like I can't get enough of this. This is cool
Oh, but they've got Drake, but they don't have the right song. What song is it? I can't I can't read it. It's really fun
Take care
I was really hoping it was going to be the
All of the means people been doing from that deal where he's like throwing the pizzas. I just I love that
All right, don you're up?
I mean, I know what my serious one is at least I think I should but Chad go ahead go first, okay
Same thing I got you last year just a little bit different. I mean it's just like the tradition completely different
Ha
She was Darth Vader and boy has it gotten some use is it the same like the cocoa deal? It's a boba fit goblet
Yeah, but unless you didn't come with the cocoa. Yeah, chocolate fudge cocoa maker. Yeah, it is sitting right on my night stand
I use it all at the time. That's one. I thought it was a bubblehead doll. No, it's like it is a goblet
I mean you feel that thing up with god chocolate or coffee. No, I want to see his other one. Okay
Before I do this I saw this and I thought if I do this
Maybe I should or should not because what he opens this. I don't know how I could top this gift
Okay, he's gonna
Throw something at you remember one of you always has the serious gift and he has the gap in this side prepare yourself accordingly
Because I know how much you're going to cherish this. Yeah, because I can already tell the the wrapping paper is already on
Flash switch
Funny posters coming good got to admit. It's funny. I got to open it from the back. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, but yeah
I'm so frightened right now
Because the bar has been set with a horn swaggle signed card
Um, just you can start ripping it but look at the other side first when you rip it
Not that side, but look at the other side
Sing a Bob Schneider. That's Bob Schneider. It's Bob Schneider, sir
Here we go. It's Christmas albums wonderful
You ask is that a honey booboo reference? It is an autograph honey booboo fun
Wow
You know what I was I was not fully unborn until I saw the certificate of authenticity and at that point I'm there it is
That's what seals it there it is but Kevin have you heard the song?
You know how much he has a song
I I won't I won't torture me with that, but I feel filthy holding this thing
You know what she loves. How do you booboo? I don't know how to top that. I really don't
Don't leave me. You'll find another rock level trust me
This is not the unsurusky this because I have to do for everybody. This is this is something I that
I surprise you don't have it or nobody gave it to you
You just rip at it
This is mine. This is my non-series. Yes
He got me under this skin
The absolutely worst film of last year, but it did make your list
But last year it was all worse to the year. Okay. There's another if you haven't seen it Kevin
You're more than welcome to take it with you. I know thank you. Okay. I didn't want you to feel left out now
He's been on pins and needles wondering what this is. He has no idea. No, let's be no, let's be serious Kevin. I know
That's the cover
That's the birth of the mando cover. Yeah
That's beautiful is it not now
I know for a fact what's about to happen because this is the same thing. He's got me. This is the third or fourth year running
Yes, no idea
Now let's let's just say let's let's let's let Kevin in on how this is gonna work. Okay
I am I haven't very unhealthy crush on UFC ring girl Britney Palmer
We reference her in every episode right over her shoulder and for the last three years
Don has gotten me the Britney Palmer calendar
Autographed every year she autographs it she personalizes it and there's a personal message every year
Um, she didn't say that the clubhouse rocks one year
Uh, this year she told me to go pound sand
So this has been the bit every year of what I'm going to get the Britney Palmer calendar
But what is she going to write on it now and you got to think she signs this every year
I know she sends a bajillion of these, but there's got to be certain once she goes
What does the deal with this dude now on this year? There's something you say on the show
There's a lot of things that sometimes it's true, but sometimes it's true about me. So it's not true. So she questions this. Okay. Okay. All right Jay
and
She says too Rob smartest man alive
What a question
Because when I called the Super Bowl blackout I was the question. The question I have is this
Did you put the question mark or did she
So you didn't ask for the question mark. No, I put it on the
When I called her because we go way back. We're good friends. She's a fan apparently. That's why she questions it because I called the Super Bowl
But that's what I'm saying when you requested the message to people it on there. Did you actually say and your message
Did you say put the question mark? Okay, so you did it she didn't actually do the question. Well, I told her to okay
That's what I'm asking
So here we are the 2016 Britney Palmer calendar and there's the thing smartest man alive. Yeah last year
See last year, hold on hold on hold on last year it was it was just too big
I said big so she had to make a little small. I don't know why maybe you're just too big. I don't know
This is a this is a different size calendar. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. This is landscape versus portrait, but that's all she's doing this year
Well, she's probably just changed up the bit a little bit. Yeah, which is not so nothing wrong with that
Happy holidays to all of you even done
Well, if you don't want it, no, the calendar's fine. Okay, if you take the DVD
She was she was staring a hole into my soul. I had to put the dead gun picture in the bags
I'm known for doing that. I got a porn swallow on a graph one year. We cannot thank each and every one of you enough
For tolerating this mess that we do every Sunday night
um
It's it's really really weird for me to say we've been doing this for almost five and a half years
And we'll talk more about this in July when we do our our season six finale
But this is the time of the year that we're thankful and we're thankful for everybody that has anything to do with this show
You know, it's
Sometimes it's a lot easier than it looks and sometimes it's a lot more difficult than it looks
We make it look harder than it is, but
The fact that people give us the opportunity to run our yaps at him for a couple of hours every week
It's it's incredibly humbling. It's that was the word I was about to use you guys the Empire you're amazing
You're amazing people each and every one of you. We're thankful for we've met so many people from so many walks of life
Um
It also gives me a chance to promote things like January 9th
Which I'm really looking forward to for your brother uh grace descending playing in battle the bands finals
Uh tickets are ten dollars a piece if you want to buy them let me know
I will find you if you're within decent driving distance if I need to
Uh the more tickets we sell the higher on the the card we're gonna be
And then stay till the end because the way the the audience participation is the voting at the end
It'll be Saturday January the 9th at the curtain club in deep alum
I don't know if you've read this on our pages if you haven't
This is the strongest song list we have ever put together in four years of this band
It's going to be an amazing show. We've got two new members of the band that we're going to introduce to everybody
Would love to see you all there
Uh, I love the crossover that we get between that project and this one
You know the fact that we have friends that are like heaven that are actually doing this as well
It's a great global community that we can all support each other and all lift each other up
And we get to talk about the things that we love to talk about and that's to me is the key to the whole thing
Yes, absolutely anything else before we do the plugs gentlemen
I want to see Mary Christmas enjoy the holidays. Yeah, we're off next week. We're gonna take next week off
Enjoy the holiday weekend
Thanks to the Empire thanks to you guys and when we do our next show in two weeks
