What's up, Empire?
It's Rob.
This week two of our vacation, but again, that doesn't mean that we can't bring you cool stuff.
For the day of this dropping, it is September the 10th in the year of our Lord 2017.
This will be, let's see, season eight, episode eight.
So now I've got to do some math.
I want to say this is 4-11.
Let me see, so we have 53, so that's 4-03.
This is 9. This is 4-12.
Look at that.
Episode 4-12.
Believe that.
Welcome.
It is the Clubhouse Podcast.
Again, this is a live to tape episode of the Clubhouse Podcast.
My name is Rob on the executive producer of said Clubhouse Podcast.
We're so glad that you've subscribed on your favorite podcast app.
Make sure you tell everybody you know.
We love doing live shows on Sunday night seven years from 4 Pacific.
But we love it when people can take us with them and listen to them whenever they want to.
We're very excited that you're here.
We're very excited about this episode.
It's just me tonight.
Just like last week, I'm just going to kind of host this deal.
Because I thought what we do, you've heard me talk about this for a few weeks now.
I've been threatening to do this forever.
Have you ever wondered the origin of this madness?
Where does this show come from?
How did we get started?
So what I thought I would do is tonight we're going to go back into time.
And we're going to kind of play for you the very first episode of this show.
There was no you stream.
There was no iTunes.
If you saw our Facebook live, the day I recorded this, the studio looked nothing like it does right now.
Before we get started, I want to kind of set the stage for you.
It is July the 13th, 2010.
Earlier that year, I'd been having some conversations with my current co-host Chad Warman.
You guys know him well.
And we like to sit around and just talk a lot.
We're geeks.
We talk geek stuff.
We talk sports.
We talk entertainment.
And Chad said to me, dude, you should really put this on wax.
And I was like, I wouldn't even know how I'd do that.
I just retired from the DJ business probably four or five months prior.
And he talked to me about podcasting.
Now I'd heard of podcasting, but I really didn't know much about it.
So Chad turned me on to Smartcast.
I am, as you know, if you listen to this show at all, I am a huge Kevin Smith fan.
Huge, huge, huge.
So being the biggest Kevin Smith fan that I am,
I've listened to Smartcast and I heard what Kevin and Scott Mosher were doing.
And I said to myself, dude, I can do that.
I've got the equipment so we can set something up.
So we kind of shelved it and kind of needed to figure out what the show was going to be.
And Cody and I decided to start the show with Chad working kind of behind the scenes on the technical stuff and all that good stuff.
Because Cody and I would spend a lot of time on Saturday nights sitting on his back porch looking out at the lake,
classic country Saturday night on the radio.
Yes, that did happen.
Cody kind of educated me on Country Musical a bit.
And some of the conversations we'd have would run kind of deep.
So we decided we were going to do this thing.
It wasn't even called the clubhouse podcast back then.
Right before we started doing this, we didn't know what to call it.
So Cody and I were talking on the phone one night.
And we were talking about somebody in a major league baseball.
I can't even remember who it was at this point.
But it was one of those guys that you really don't want, you know, being a poison to your team.
And I was just like, that dude needs to get out of my clubhouse.
And Cody said, dude, that's it.
I said, what?
He goes, we need to call it the clubhouse.
And I was like, you know what?
That's right.
Because it's kind of like we're letting people into our clubhouse to hear the things we talk about.
So it became the clubhouse with Robin Cody.
Cody was with us for about 16 months.
And then he wanted to go off and do some things on his own, which, you know,
we were totally okay with Cody and our still friends to this day.
We're very, very good friends.
I'm a big fan of his family.
And so when Cody stepped down, Chad stepped in.
And Chad's been with us ever since.
And if you've been with us over the years, you know that not soon after that came Don.
And the cast of characters that has circulated through this studio in the last seven years
in a month and a half, I guess, or whatever it's been.
The original, geez, probably year and a half of this show wasn't even available on iTunes.
Because we didn't, we didn't even know what an RSS feed was.
Much less, how do you get on?
I thought getting on iTunes, you had to be like, be somebody.
So another friend of the show, Richard Sheely, who is our original webmaster,
he did some research for us and showed us how to create an RSS feed.
So we did that and in, oh geez.
Did I say 2013?
So maybe it's been longer than that.
The first time that we were on, let me take a look at the date on this.
Yeah, I'm sorry.
So it was more than a year and a half.
It's about two and a half years.
January 6, 2013 was the very first episode on iTunes.
Season 3, episode 24, Lady Gaga looks like a young Carol Chinning.
I remember that.
We did some great titles to this show.
So after about the fifth episode, we were live on YouStream.
Because the first four episodes were just live the tape, including the very first lady's resting roundtable,
which we may replay that for you at some point, I'm not sure.
We went live on YouStream about a month in, did our first pay-per-view a month in,
because we did a pre-show for SummerSlam.
I was actually out of town for SummerSlam, much like I am, the day this downloads.
So we pre-did that show, I went out of town.
About six months later, we did our first show of Fox and Hound,
for Elimination Chamber, when they listed as Elimination Chamber.
I had a great time with them for, geez, four years.
Over four years, we did pay-per-views there, for WWE.
We've gotten to do a lot of cool stuff over the years.
But sometimes you have to go back to the beginning, and remember where you came from.
So the show itself is just over an hour and a half.
I'll be back after the show to wrap things up.
So here comes the original episode.
Are you ready for this?
Of the Clubhouse.
Welcome to the initial installment of the Clubhouse.
The Clubhouse is now open.
I am Rob, I'm joined by Cody.
This is going to be something, this is experimental this week.
Eventually, this will be a weekly series for all of you to listen to.
We hope you enjoy it.
We'll be with you for, on this one, as long as it takes.
We're hoping to get this thing down to it.
Just a couple of hours a week for you to enjoy.
It's chime in on a board if you want to, or just make fun of us we don't care.
It's our podcast.
We're going to do it what we want.
It is July the 13th in the year of our Lord 2010.
We're going to start talking about a whole bunch of things.
But the first thing, if you know us, you know that we are both huge fans of professional wrestling.
And so the first thing we want to talk about is, since it's Tuesday, last night's Raw.
And my first question for you, Cody, is this, as I'm watching the opening,
not the opening of the show with the first segment.
Cena's in the ring.
He's addressing the nexus, which I think is one of the worst names ever.
But, are we relying, are we putting too many eggs in the basket of John Cena?
Well, I think it was like you saw with the NWO and the 1997 and 1998 and so on and so forth.
I think they relied heavy on whoever didn't join that week.
Yeah, but I understand what you're saying there.
But what I'm saying is, I could understand if it was Cena one week and it was or next week.
But it's Cena every week and what my concern is, if Cena gets injured, because he will.
He will make no mistake.
Oh, yeah.
Have we put so much on him and have been for years because you look at the product for when,
when Batista put him out.
And now you don't even have Batista to lean on.
Well, I think it's one of them type of situations where you have a very big, big, huge depleted roster right now.
Absolutely.
Orton, you can't rely on edges, bummed up every time we turn around.
And it's this guy's on steroids, this guy's this guy, that Morrison can't work the stick.
I think it's kind of Vince going, let me lean on this until everybody's healed this Nexus thing.
I think eventually you're going to have to cut a guy off and he jumped.
But there needs to be some type of where we make a, a, this is a group.
This is an alliance.
It's Nexus versus Raw versus Smackdown come together us versus y'all, survivor series top matches.
Or can we go that long with it though?
I mean, to me, I would more bring it to a head at something like bragging rights.
Yeah, that's true.
But if you're going to still have the brand separation with Raw and Smackdown, does I, I just think that we need to spread this around a little bit.
Or I understand you've got to have the one guy that takes them on.
Yeah.
Which, you know, like in WCW became at one point, it was staying at one point, it was DDP.
But I just, it was.
It was.
I mean, when you, when Sting was out, you gotta think about it.
DDP was the guy.
Yeah.
And it, you know, it doesn't help, it doesn't hurt you that you live next door to the boss.
No, it doesn't.
But, you know, I just, I wondered as I was watching that last night, I'm going, man, we put so much on Cena for so long.
Yeah.
I mean, you and I would talk about this three, four years ago, where it's like, is this really the guy?
Well, I think with, with Cena, it was at the time when he came on not, not to judge what he does.
Eminem was a big deal.
The white rapper.
Yeah, yeah.
And he came into this part of the bit, because if you remember the original bit, he just was John Cena, and he wore blue tights.
And pin Kurt Angle in a challenge.
Yeah.
So I think it was gold medal challenge, I believe it was.
He just, the, Vince just went down to Manhattan, down to Ness, the throwback Jersey store there in Manhattan.
And just bought jerseys and jerseys and jerseys for every player and threw it on a guy that had minimal wrestling skills at the time.
Great Mike skills and pretty much, you know, how Vince is with his creations.
He's going to always push the guys he made.
I think it's, it's all, if you came from another Fed in a WWE and you're trying to get discovered.
Good luck, because Vince pushes his create with, with, I think with, I mean, of course, exceptions being to every rule.
To me, those exceptions would be Hall Nash.
Yeah, that's true.
That's your list of guys that have jumped over that weren't established before.
Because if you look at guys like Perry Saturn or Dean Malenko, those guys were established guys.
So Vince could kind of, and at that time your Monday night war was really added at its apex.
So Vince could take those guys and push him just to stop it in the face of Ted Turner.
Well, a lot of it was ratings driven at that, that day too.
And I'll be honest, Vince has no competition right now.
Dixie, Jarrett, Hogan, Bishop.
I won't, see, to me, Bishop and Hogan are stinking up the joint right now.
Whoever's running that show right now, and let's be honest, we may, if, and I'm going to tease something, we don't know it.
If Paul Heyman jumps TNA, there's a reason why Bishop and Hogan were not at your pay-per-view Sunday night.
That's kind of their own little protest.
They don't want Paul Heyman involved in it, and the contract goes till 2010.
Right.
Well, see, and that's something I want to address on the next installment of this, because I want to really get into the Heyman thing a little bit.
Because my concern with it, if you're going where I think you're going with Heyman, you can't name your faction.
What you want to name your faction.
I think they're going to try to rekindle that ECW.
But that's what I'm saying. You can't name it that. Vince owns it.
Vince owns it.
So, what are they just going to be the extremists?
I mean, I just, we can go ahead and get into this now if we really want to.
Yeah.
But I just, I just think that what you're dealing with, it's you're dealing with a bunch of guys.
Like, how many times can Raven get a job with them?
How many times, I mean, how many times can Stevie Richards get work?
The guy has always been a very low mid-carter at best.
The guy's got a decent spit.
You know, I tried to make him Shawn Michaels over there.
And when you only, the reason he knew about ECW was a quarterly pay-per-view or PWI.
Literally.
He was Shawn Michaels.
The Dudley Boys were their road warriors.
You had antagonists.
You know, and that's a great way to put that.
I never thought about that.
The Dudley Boys being the road warriors.
And you're absolutely right.
I never thought of it that way.
Yeah.
And then you had Chris Jericho was kind of their, you know, pick a guy, mid-carter guy.
He was their Jeff Hardy back then.
Didn't you had...
Yes, he was your stone cold.
Steve Austin.
And Rob Bandown was your breath.
The Hitman Harner with it.
He was a submission guy.
That never lost.
The television title for four years was never pinned.
But then you stopped paying your talent.
Yeah.
Then your TNN contract goes to put in your out of business.
Right.
My next thing is...
And something I was thinking about last night is watching Evan Bournem.
Excitable.
Exciting.
Can't work to stick to save his life.
But watching him and how they're pushing him right now.
My question is...
And I actually said this as we were watching.
There's a bunch of us that watch it.
Sports City Cafe and Mesquite.
If you come out on Monday night and join us, we have a great time.
Uh...
Convince used him as a bargaining chip against Ray.
As a contract.
Because to me, it's...
We all know Ray's in contract in a co-chain.
That's why he's got the belt right now.
Yeah.
But Convince...
Show him a guy like Evan Bournem on television and go,
I don't need you as much as you think I need you.
Because I've got this guy over here who's basically is...
The American you...
Yeah.
And younger and faster now.
Yeah, Ray.
Honestly, let's be honest.
His best days are way behind him.
I don't...
His best days in my opinion were behind him before he jumped.
Um...
Yeah.
The thing about Ray is Ray can be a guy...
I've never actually, in things I've read and things I've heard,
I've never known him to be a bad locker room guy.
And I think Vince wants a lot of things going on in his locker room with the NXT guys
with all these new catch jumping.
Evan Bournem's a guy that needs a lot of work as far as look,
as far as on the microphone.
But in the ring, I think he's very polished.
He scares the hell out of me.
Because he'll take a risk and he'll take a hell of a bump.
And I think that...
Like he did last night.
I think...
That RKO was one of the sickest things I've ever seen.
I think the days of Ray Mysterio taking the big crazy bump through the table,
he's just not there anymore.
Every time you turn around, he's either hurting someone or hurting himself.
And that was my next point is, you know, as...
For those you're listening and follow such things,
he's the reason you don't have the Undertaker right now.
He broke the Undertaker's orbital lobe and his nose in a match on SmackDown.
Which I would...
I would love to see what that sweating pictures looked like after that surgery.
If I was...
But yeah, it's...
I'd probably just go ahead and release him.
Let Dixie throw him to the wolves.
Yeah.
Literally in some cases.
Um...
I just...
I don't know.
I don't know if it...
Because it's not like it's the first time he's done it.
Um...
If you want to cite a precedent,
you could cite Kennedy.
Yeah, God...
Because that whole deal with him and Orton,
I kind of felt bad for the dude.
Yeah.
Yeah, you heard a guy.
But...
Was that...
Fireable?
Did Orton have that much stroke in the locker room?
It's like he does.
I mean, let's be honest.
In my opinion, I know you agree with this.
We've had it in casual conversation.
To me, the best day of Randy Orton is five years ago.
And he's 29 years old.
Yeah.
And that's sad to me.
Because the kids got the talent.
Pretty soon he'll be at a...
He'll be at a Comic-Con sign autographs.
That's a legend.
It's 32.
Yeah, like Rick should be.
But that's...
That's a whole other conversation for a whole other podcast.
The thing that Kennedy is...
Yeah, he...
They've just so misused him so bad over there.
And I think if Raid does jump,
he can go back to AAA or CML or...
Oh, that can.
...il Silvero or whatever or LaParca or Silver King or whatever.
They're calling those guys...
Oh, Dandy.
...il Dandy or Volano 1 and 2 and whatever.
He's got keys to the door.
X-Boxer.
Is that where he is right now?
And they're kind of a video game.
Triple A with a video game in a month.
Really?
I know.
Oh, I know that it's a luchador game that's been post-poned.
I read today on WeFanboy.
But in that deal,
you're guaranteed to always have a Spanish announce table.
That would point.
Hey.
I miss the Amigos.
I want to touch on this very briefly
because there's really not much we can talk about here.
Finally.
Finally.
Tonight.
The next is shows up on a show that's not wrong.
Yeah.
Fine.
I will be rolling DVR as I always do.
I just...
I wonder...
I wonder...
They've got to do this on SmackDown.
For this thing to have any water,
you have to do this on all three shows.
Yeah.
Because if we remember the early days of the NWO,
even...
Even then,
you had...
You had...
When you had Thunder,
they showed up on Thunder.
When you had...
You had Saturday Night,
they showed up on Saturday Night.
You can't have them just on one show.
I think you're one of the only people in America
who actually remembers Thursday night, Thunder.
Dog on right, I do.
Whoa.
That VCR was set three nights a week.
My VCR was...
I was going through VCRs like water at one point
because you had two shows on Monday night.
You had a show on Wednesday night.
You had a show on Thursday night.
You had a show on Saturday.
Sometimes you had two shows on Saturday.
If you had made an event.
Well, you know,
all that's going to do is help SmackDown's rating
because let's be honest.
There's nobody over there drawing any type of heat to me
that makes me want to buy a pay-per-view with them on it.
At least we're not doing the separate pay-per-views anymore.
See, that was going to be my next question
to mention that.
And we have to get rid of the brand separation at some point.
This has to die.
It's run its course.
I know it was cool.
It was fun.
It was great when you had the WCW guys in there
that were the big guys that made it interesting.
Now, I think it's...
If SmackDown, if Edge is mad at somebody backstage,
Michael Hayes, a book or something, he jumps to Raw.
You've got Orton at Raw.
A trip who knows where he's going to go.
Or if when he's going to be back.
And I think SmackDown has nothing
that makes me want a tournament television set
and watch that show right now other than maybe Nexus
come in and whooping somebody down.
Yeah, and that's what they need.
Yeah.
Okay, so then as we wrap up our WW talk for current,
my next question and my last question in this category
is as follows.
Are you looking forward to money in the bank on Sunday
and why or why not?
Um...
Why?
To me, the why is...
Somebody takes always takes a hell of a bump.
And you're always going to get a bump.
You're always going to get a guy that does something
just totally unbelievable.
As far as...
You know, I hate to.
He's no longer with the company.
This match will miss a Shelton Benjamin.
That will climb the ladder.
We'll do the bit.
We'll do whatever he needs to sell himself.
Sell the crowd.
Do whatever.
That match to me does not have that guy.
But do you replace him with Christian?
Yeah.
The Christian will take a bump.
I think Jay will take a bump for you.
I don't think those days are fast.
But I'm going to tell you what,
they better do something with him or they've wasted
three years of his time.
He has to win this.
Yeah.
And the fact that he has to win...
Smackdown.
Makes it even worse to me.
Yeah, the thing is...
Oh, you got yourself there.
You went wrong way with the switch.
Hello.
The thing about it is,
is you've got a situation with him
where he went from a whole entire promotion.
TNA.
That was pretty much...
Other than Angle came after that.
That was the first guy that came from Vince.
Okay.
That they got in Vince's camp and said,
we're taking that guy.
And I think just like Hardy though,
his TNA stint was the best possible situation for him
because it taught him things that...
It almost seemed like Vince didn't want to take the time
to teach him.
Didn't want to groom him.
Didn't want him to have to take a step backwards.
I think...
I forgot.
I remember the last night he was here
was in Dallas, Texas, if you remember.
Was it really?
It was a Smackdown.
And he was in some crazy gimmick match.
Was the last time we ever saw him in the next day.
A website reported he was no longer with the company
and then two weeks later,
his real name, Christian Cage.
That's the first thing he used.
And then Jay Russo being his real name.
I wish Jay the best.
I got to see the gold or some type of gold around his...
ECW wasn't good enough.
Not for a guy like that.
And I'll tell you another match,
another match up going to the money to bank
that I think needs a little heat about it.
If you're going to do Morrison and D.V.O.C.
two of the young studs, future,
put a belt on one of them.
I don't care if you're doing it.
Exactly.
You do have one.
Well, I'm talking one that's recognized
except for maybe a handful of people.
Steve Austin, T.V.O.C.
Virgil, maybe Dusty Rhodes, maybe once.
But you got to get a belt around Morrison
who is supposed to be the future.
Sean Michaels type career path tag team champ.
I see champ.
I'm putting ECW title
and I intercontinental belt on the same level.
And then...
At that point, I could understand that.
And then, but you've...
I think you've got to get some heat around a rivalry.
If it's kind of like NXT,
if it's booked correctly,
can really revolutionize this business.
But now you're kind of like,
we're going to fight over just who's the worst of mine.
Cause they're both horrible on the stick.
Yeah.
Morrison's not good.
I'll...
I will say this.
D.V.O.C. has gotten better.
And Maurice does nothing but hold him back.
Maurice...
Yeah.
Don't even get me started.
Man face.
Um...
What we're going to do now
is I'm going to...
I'm going to leave this next part to you.
You've done some research.
And when one of the features we're going to have,
there's going to be features.
This week in wrestling history.
For those of you that aren't fans,
you can start to get educated with things like this.
And if you're not a fan,
you've probably fast-forwarded this portion.
Right now.
But I'm going to hand this over to Cody while he gives you
this week in wrestling history,
July the 13th, 2010.
Everybody was a wrestling fan.
They were a kid.
Rockin' wrestling.
Absolutely.
Cartoon, Hogan.
We all know this.
But some of this goes back a little deeper than that.
And I'll be honest, July.
This week, July 11th through the 18th.
Barry W.C.W. Heavy,
because they did summer pay-per-views.
Bash the beach.
Great American Bash, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
Vince did not really embrace the summer pay-per-view
except SummerSlam,
the King of the Rings,
stuff like that came later.
We're going to start out in Minneapolis,
we're Gene Kinnitsky.
The great Gene Kinnitsky.
It feeds the great Vern Gagnia in Minneapolis
to win his first of four A.W.A. World titles
of belt that Gagnia didn't drop just a hell of a whole lot.
And that was the thing I liked about Gagnia, though.
He wasn't one of these guys of...
I'm not dropping this belt to anybody.
Like Jared in the first full year of TNA.
If Gagnia thought you could carry the company,
he would do it.
But like you said,
didn't drop it to a lot of people.
But the fact that Gene held it four times
tells you what you need to know.
Yeah, yeah.
Here's one near and dear.
Crank up the band, get Oli and the boys out
and throw the hat.
Make that a brother.
Make that a conic symbol with your hand.
1987, great American Bash.
Greensboro, North Carolina.
Horseman Country.
Lex Luger defeats Nikita Koloff
to win the United States heavyweight title
with the help of J.J. Dylan
and the Four Horsemen
when Tully Blanchard nails Nikita
with a chair as J.J. distracts the ref
typical horseman fashion.
Absolutely.
Also that night.
The Russian Nightmare from that mistake.
Rick Flair defeated the...
One of the greatest bits Rick ever did
defeats Jimmy Garvin in a cage
when the A.W.A. title
and a date with precious.
If you remember that bit,
Jimmy Garvin dresses up
like a walnut and so on and so forth.
Is that on the horseman DVD?
Yes, that's on the first rick set.
No, it's on the first rick set.
It's on the first rick set.
That's the first rick set.
The ultimate rick Flair collection
which we found later to be not great.
It's one of the greatest great bits
of Rick's history.
Of course, in wrestling to me is
seeing Jimmy Garvin in drag
and all that's great or not.
And he had it.
Didn't he have like a polo shirt on
under the dress?
It's very weird.
A champagne.
It was a robe.
And it was like...
It wasn't even a suite.
It was just like your basic beef flat hotel.
It was hiding in the closet.
It was...
Rick.
Come back to us, Rick.
Or leave us with the memories we have.
I think it's what we're meeting at this point.
And I usually won't do this.
But in 1989, Stan Hansen
and Janiso Teriyaki
when the All Japan tag team titles,
whatever.
But you know what?
Still around.
Those titles are still around.
Currently held by who?
I think it was a Dudley boys on correct.
In Gary.
Indeed.
The IWGP.
Yeah.
This one here.
Great American Bash.
Like I said, very W.W. heavy today.
Gray Civic Center in Albany, Georgia.
Never heard of that.
The Gray Civic Center in Albany.
I've heard of Albany, New York.
I've never heard of an Albany.
There is an Albany, Georgia.
It's...
Well.
A Vater Defeat Sting for the WCW.
My leader.
Title that night.
And...
Never understood why we had to push him.
And why we had to put him in a...
in a leather mask.
Very...
All that a mask?
Because it's not like he covered up real much.
Well, mankind.
Nick Foley copied it for years almost.
That's true.
Oh, and also that night.
End of this.
Yeah.
Terry Bam Bam Gordian.
Steve Williams.
Williams at that point.
Not all.
Then Defeat Dustin Rhodes and Barry Wyndham.
For the WCW tag team championships that night.
Dustin Rhodes.
He's a guy I want to get to in a later podcast.
Yeah.
Because...
And I don't...
If I start talking about it, we're going to end up on it for 10 minutes.
But I want to talk about Dustin later down the road.
Because I think that right now,
Defeat, Defeat is missing a huge boat with him.
And I want to address that later on.
Yeah.
And this is kind of the...
And this is the era that we're really talking about.
Remember in 1998, when...
It seemed like WCW had an athlete invasion.
The professional athlete wanted to get in the ring.
Goldberg, Steve McMichael.
Here today.
Take care of it.
This is actually a day.
Yeah, take care of it.
If you remember this, the...
The great giant, now known as Paul White, Big Show, etc.
Penn Kevin Greene.
Kevin Greene.
In 1998.
Great...
Excuse me.
Bash the beach.
Cox Arena.
San Diego, California.
Beautiful town.
Also, you had Goldberg defeat Kurt Henning as the disciple in his corner.
The disciple.
I'm good lord.
And the biggest...
One of the biggest...
I bought this.
I remember I worked...
I was in line out of high school working at Kroger, saving my money.
I actually bought this paper for you.
Hulk Kogan and Dennis Rodman defeat DDP and Kogan Malone.
And Kogan Malone.
Yes.
You remember that?
That was when they had a little bit on the tonight show.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That was...
As I'm seeing...
Am I not mistaken?
The winner of that got the title.
If I'm not right.
Wouldn't that a tag team match with the titles?
The title was on the...
I will neither confirm nor deny that because I don't think that's correct.
And if we go...
Let's go fast forward.
July 13th.
Kevin and Carrie Von Erich defeat King Kong Bundy and Bugsie Mahone.
The W's.
Never heard of him.
Woo!
Thanks for the WCCW tag team titles at the beautiful state-of-the-art Sportatorialman in Dallas, Texas.
God rest it all.
Same.
Two years later, Iceman King Parsons defeats the General Chris Adams for the WCCW.
General?
Excuse me.
The gentleman.
The gentleman Chris Adams for the American title, which was pretty much world's classes equivalent
to the Intercontinental.
And 1986, Great American Bash Charlotte, North Carolina, Rick Flair defeats Ricky Morton
in a steel cage for the NWA title.
Two more left.
How did Ricky Morton get a title shot?
All I know is...
You were a tag team wrestler and...
Great tag team.
Rock and roll Express brother.
Don't go me...
I'll only be sideways, but...
Yeah.
How do you get it?
You get a shot.
All I know is that Rick was on camera with one of your girlfriend's training brawls
one night at Saturday night went off the air there.
I don't know.
And two here, two here that really is kind of funny.
1993 Lex Luger slams Yoko Zuno on the US...
Did he really?
Because I've seen...
I was watching the footage last week.
Look like there may have been a...
It wasn't a gorilla press.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
I just kind of...
I mean, Hogan slamming...
Andre.
No, Andre, Big John Stutt.
Yeah, what I was thinking.
That was a slam.
Even Andre, that was a slam.
Yoko Zuno, that was more of like a fall.
And just think about that.
That was really supposed to turn into Lex Luger.
One of my favorite wrestlers, Vince.
Agreed.
I wanted to hold it this.
I know he's had some problems.
You really got to look at him in your Hall of Fame class.
If WrestleMania is in Atlanta next year, great career.
Too bad it was shamed afterwards.
That was supposed to be the beginning of a title run.
So he got drunk at a bar in Manhattan.
Told everybody was going to happen.
Night before WrestleMania 10, MSG.
It wasn't supposed to be Bret Hart to go out that night.
It was supposed to be Lex Luger.
He screwed Lex on that deal.
Typical shows up on her all.
I mean, Nitro a year later.
But there were some names involved in that slam competition.
There were a few athletes and wrestlers.
Wasn't Lawrence Taylor?
That's true.
Was one.
Now you're going to make me think.
Matt Millen.
Matt Millen really.
Matt Millen.
The failed Lions president who still has a job somehow.
That's a, that's a, that's a whole, that's a month's worth of work.
Yeah, that's coming.
That's coming in the fall.
Because we don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves
with NFL talk just yet.
Bob Backlin.
God.
Never know how he wore a title.
Never understand how he wore a title.
Spared me to death.
A guy that I always liked till the Royds took over.
First Scott Steiner.
Yes, Steiner, pre-Royds.
Top 10 tag team of all time.
Top five.
Oh, for sure.
Steiner brothers.
How neither one of them is Hall of Fame right now is beyond me.
Another guy that I would love to know what happened to.
What happened to Zatanka?
Zatanka.
Remember, he showed up a couple of years ago.
Yeah, I guess he just part of the Jericho Legends thing.
Okay.
Hall of Fame.
He is in the Hall of Fame.
Crush.
God rest his soul.
Greg Bryan Adams.
Of course, the Macho Man Randy Savage got two shots.
Got two shots.
And...
Why can't him?
I can't think just...
Oh, that's another podcast for another day is the Macho Man story.
In my opinion, this next day.
This day.
Very day.
1999.
Okay.
Raw doubles the Nitro rating.
As Raw pulled in a 6.2.
Raw has now been about the...
Not low fours, high threes, which is normal.
And the Nitro draws a 3.3.
And I think if now we know now what we know then.
Sid versus Kevin Nash for the title is your main event on WCW Nitro.
That is your title match.
And over on the other dial.
I believe that was spiked TV at that point in time.
You had the Rock and Triple H.
You had the Rock and Triple H in the Steel Cage for the World title.
What do you watch?
Yeah.
Oh, I mean, I'm...
At that point, I'm videotaping both of them.
I mean, that's pretty...
That's pretty...
Yeah, yeah.
If you're ahead to head at that point, yeah.
That wow.
That's pretty tough.
If you want me to mention something, you may know more than I do.
Or you want to email a date.
Something.
Talk about a certain federation.
Rob's from Florida.
I'm from here locally in Dallas.
Big world class heavy.
Any questions about world class?
We know that.
Florida Championship wrestling.
You know a lot about that.
Absolutely.
If I miss something.
If I miss informed.
Hey, man.
Get on.
Tell me about it.
I'll do it.
You want to tell him how to get a hold of it?
That is on Facebook.
And you can search Cody Hawkins.
And it comes up as that.
And just leave me a message.
Shoot me a message.
And I will get on it.
Now, some stuff.
You know, we're working with the magic of the internet.
Some of these days.
Nothing might be exact.
But it did happen this week.
Greatest hotmail handle of all time.
Probably Hawk 3.
That's what I'm saying.
That's what I'm saying.
Hawk 3-9 at hotmail.com.
Some of you will get that.
And some of you won't.
And that's okay.
We will address that later on.
I want to switch now to what is.
It's almost a week old.
And if you can believe it.
It was a week ago.
And I guess two days.
Because this will be Tuesday.
The LeBron James.
Soonami is the only way I can describe this thing.
I was on my way home from a business trip.
I actually made it home to watch the decision.
And as Cody said, I am from Florida.
I support my Florida teams.
The heat being one of them.
And let me put that disclaimer on this.
I am a day one.
Literally.
Miami Heat Fan.
1987-ish.
I'm there.
There's going to be certain people in this town.
If they listen to this there.
We don't need to hang our honors on this deal.
I've bestowed one man to run the mail to heat.
It's this man.
I didn't see many heat jerseys in Dallas.
Yeah.
This past NBA season.
Especially in 2006.
But anyway.
Hey, whoa, whoa.
The rafts cost us that many.
I don't even get me started.
A lot of people are saying a lot of things.
And to any of our fans in Cleveland.
Get over it.
Exactly.
Because this man gave you six years.
Count them.
Children that were born the day he were drafted
are wrapping up the first grade.
And your team couldn't build enough of a supporting cast
to win the title.
Yeah.
You know, Cleveland.
Cleveland, really.
If you really think about it.
I can remember a time when we've heard things.
We've heard things come out to the point that John Lucas
saying that he was asked to lose to get him.
I know that there was dicey things with him in college.
I mean, high school.
Excuse me.
The Hummer.
His mother and a house and stuff.
So really, LeBron James had no chance to go into college.
Cleveland drafts him.
And all of a sudden, he becomes Michael Jordan
in a town that really hits historically.
We're in that number to help.
Other than the Browns Championship in 64 and two Indians,
one against my boys, Marlins,
two just horrible World Series trips
when you caught the Yankees on a down year,
that's pretty much your winning.
And I just, I don't get it.
I mean, I can understand nobody wants to play in Cleveland.
God bless you, Cleveland.
But you tell anybody,
I'm going to give you two options.
You can live in Cleveland, or you can live in Miami.
I'll give you 99 out of 100,
because I'll give you one.
I'll give you 1%.
Yeah.
He actually took less money than Cleveland was going to offer.
So all of you people bitching about the money.
Yeah, 110 over five years.
That's a lot of money.
But you know what?
It's not 120.
Yeah, you know, the thing about that is is,
LeBron has said it best several times.
He doesn't want to be 31 with no rings and bad knees.
And bad knees.
And you know, you're going to get bad knees
when you're back hurts from carrying an entire team on your back.
And holy entire town.
Yeah.
I think one thing about LeBron LeBron
had to do it was good for LeBron.
So I don't hate because I know I've done things in my life
that's good for Cody and Rob Bus first stuff.
Absolutely.
It comes time to win championships.
You don't, I know Jersey sales are nice.
Posters and kids rooms are nice.
Nike's nice.
McDonald's nice.
Sprite with a little puppets and whatever.
That's nice.
You got to win rings.
And LeBron is a player that's very concerned about his legacy.
He's very concerned about how do I compare to Cody,
Magic, Bird, even, even, of course, Michael Jordan.
But even some guys now that he's playing against it have rings.
The Wayne Wade being a now a teammate.
But he looked like a guy like Chris Paul, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett.
They can always trump LeBron going.
Look at me.
I won.
Ask Alex Rodriguez.
Exactly.
What it's like to finally win one after being told you're the guy for so long.
You know, like you said, to get that monkey off your back.
Yeah.
It's, and to me, it wasn't the money.
The guy wants to win.
Yeah.
And just because he didn't sign with your team.
And let's, let's put the shoe on the other foot.
Yeah.
If you know me well enough, you know.
Let's, let's say by some bureaucratic staff.
Because remember, I gave you three scenarios.
Exactly.
I gave you the scenario one, which is the one that happened.
Mm-hmm.
I gave you scenario two where Duane goes home.
And LeBron joins him in Chicago.
Okay.
And then I gave you three, which was the long shot.
But I wasn't putting it past anyone where he winds up in a purple and gold.
Man, could you imagine that night if he just threw it off and said,
you know what?
I remember the LA Lakers and basketball shuts down for at least four years.
Because Kobe's, Kobe's over the, Kobe's like Butch Cassidy.
He's on the horse, the sun's behind him.
And Kobe's getting ready to just get at the end of the day.
But at the end of the day, Kobe's Kobe.
Yeah.
You know, you, you can say, yeah, he's only taking 20 foot jumpers now.
But you know what?
At the end of the day, if I got to put the ball in somebody's hands
with a half a second left on a clock from 20 feet, he's on that list.
Yeah, but you remember Jordan late in his career,
especially the two jazz championships.
The days of Jordan Duncan from the, from the free throw line
and some of the wild where he's just facing, just putting facials on people.
Jordan was a jump shooter.
And I think that's one thing about LeBron is LeBron gets older.
He's got to fix that shot.
It's not as smooth on his fluid.
Well, plus, and I think he's going to have time to do that now.
Yeah.
Because he doesn't have to worry about, okay,
do I got to go out there and play 48?
And do I have to put 55 on the board for us to win?
And, and I also say that I, I apply that same principle to Dwayne Wade.
Yeah.
Dwayne Wade since Shacklept has been like, can somebody get me some help in this time?
Yeah.
And he's had good guys around them, but he's never had the guy.
No.
And now he has the guy where, and, and I like what LeBron said
that he's going to play on Dwayne Wade's team.
He understands that yes, at the end of the day, I am LeBron James.
But at the same time, I'm now the new kid at a different school.
Yeah, and I think that's one thing Chris Bosch needs to learn real well.
This isn't the Raptors.
Exactly.
This isn't a hockey town.
That every now and then you sold out a basketball game.
He's on to understand that, hey, bro, you're, if I'm Superman or, and LeBron's Batman,
because there are one A1B, you might be Robin one night, you might be the Green Lantern
the next.
If we're doing this super friend type thing like the Hall of Justice, like they made
this out to be, I think you've got two bonafide superheroes in LeBron and Dwayne.
I think with Chris Bosch, it gets hairy.
Can he, can he handle 14?
I think he gets it.
I think he gets it.
And I'll tell you why.
If he didn't get it, they would have never have all gotten together.
And I'll be honest, and I know our next topic is right along this same line here.
To me, they got to win.
They got to win two or three.
And that was going to be my next question is, what are the realistic expectations for this year?
I'm not saying title this year, because I think by automatically crowning them in the
Denny Green sense of the word.
And boy gosh, his kids in trouble in me.
I don't think, I mean, title would be great.
Don't get me wrong, but I'm not going to put, I'm going to say Eastern Conference finals
I'm going to say I could even go NBA finals because I don't know if these guys stay healthy.
And that's the other thing people have to understand.
If these guys stay healthy, and you know, the heat has gotten a couple of role players in there.
But if they get there, they're definitely Eastern Conference finals.
There's no, I don't see them not going at least that far.
Unless the rumors that people are hearing, I know let's not, the nicks are trying to do a deal with
Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul.
That won't happen.
But didn't the nuggets already say we're not getting rid of Carmelo?
I don't know.
He's going to be here.
So shut up.
I think if you're in New York, the only choice you have to give away your draft the next two years.
Give away all your first round fix.
You want a guy like Melo and Chris Paul.
There's no way they get both.
But anyway, I don't see anybody in the East.
You've got an aging Celtic team.
You've got a Dwight Howard who, to me, he's a paper tiger.
He's a guy who's really tough in the regular season.
But when it gets to the playoffs, he's like a LeBron.
He doesn't have a guy he can dish on the perimeter or somebody drive the paint besides him and get points.
Yeah, I just don't see anybody in the East being able to hold back.
And now you've got Miller.
He's a great role player.
All Miami needs is a couple BJ Armstrongs and a couple Steve Kerr's and a couple Michael Finley's
and a couple so and so forth.
See where I'm going.
All they need some guy to come up the bench or do something and get.
And maintain.
Maintain.
Yeah.
Maintain and a little defense.
Keep them from scoring as much as you are.
I know we'll have to see it.
But you tell me you give me starting three against L.A. starting five.
We talked about this the night it happened.
I just.
Man, I have a hard time seeing where Lamar Odom can hold Chris Bosch.
And D Wade and Andrew Biden, who's been hurt since he got there.
Yeah.
And we Kobe's Kobe.
But Derek Fisher, you re-sign a point guard for I think you overpaying Miami wanted him for less money.
Yeah.
But.
And I respect that.
I respect Fisher going back.
I would have loved to have had him on the team.
Yeah.
Um.
I think that's the point of having you done us.
Haslam back.
I think you're huge and that and a lot of people don't understand that as well is when you look
at the numbers, Wade has eight million less on his contract than the other two.
And that was because he wanted to free that space for Haslam.
I got a question for you.
Basketball town or still football town.
Right now it's a basketball town and I'll tell you why because the dolphins have been so
bad for so long.
Well, we don't get when we get too much in that, but right now I mean right now it's a basketball
town.
I just heard it on a national show today.
Miami right now is a basketball town.
Now ask me that question again near Halloween.
The answer might be different.
Might.
I can't say will be because at that point we're about to start NBA season.
Yeah.
We're about to see what this thing really does.
And I'm going to say this and I told you this.
If the finals end up being Miami and the Lakers, write it down.
Listen to me now.
Believe me tomorrow and hear me next week.
If this happens highest rated finals in 25 years since showtime in the Celtics, you
have not had, you know, Muhammad Ali versus Superman, you haven't since then.
And I think hopefully and the thing about it is if Miami goes, they need to win it because
I think you're going to have a ton of names there's out there across this country.
And look, you still can't beat Kobe, you still can't beat Phil Jackson.
Nobody beats LA.
I think you're still going to get that if Miami goes for the for the for the sanity of probably
their fans, management, and for all these haters and these namesayers out there, tell
you what, man, there's a lot of people that don't know nothing about sports, fashion,
LeBron, nationally, anything you listen to into the day, you are judged on what you have
on your fingers.
That's any sport, any sport, Dan Marino, there's a knock on him, there's a knock on Dan
Marino.
Best quarterbacks in every winery.
Yeah.
The LeBron didn't want to be Charles Barkley.
He did not want to be a guy that went through his career with no jewelry and really won
the NBA final San Antonio Sweathing, a very sub-par San Antonio team swept him.
Does Shaq wind up there?
San Antonio.
It's not that foreigner.
It got that foreigner drafted.
The only thing Shaq's going to have to realize Shaqila Neal has to take him amid a middle
level option.
He's going to have to be a guy that's probably a low, you know, it's, you know, it's the
lowest salary in NBA.
It's right.
It's $400,000 a year.
Pay me that on Sunday.
Yeah.
That's what Shaq, Shaq might get a million.
I think Shaq's a guy right now that he's a 300, maybe 500 grand guy.
And I think he's a ring chaser.
I think there's only reason he ended up in Cleveland last year because he thought he
was enough to push the king over the top Celtic series.
That was just brutal.
Garnett, it showed you how old and slow Shaqila Neal was and it made me think, oh, there's
Cubans boy, he'll end up now.
Yeah.
So, buddy.
I just, and Cuban, love you.
You're great for the league.
You say you want to spend money.
Spend money.
That's all I'm saying.
All right, moving on.
As we are, oh, Geter just took one there.
As we are, as we are recording this, we do have the Major League Baseball All-Serg game
on a television in my office as we broadcast semi-live from the office in my home.
Right now, Geter got a nice piece of that.
Who is it?
No, that wasn't.
Geter, Geter, Geter was already on base.
Whoever followed him.
That was a cat from the Tigers.
Oh, yeah.
And see, and that's one of my things about the All-Serg game and some we're talking about
that.
I just wonder, does anybody care about the All-Serg game anymore?
I mean, I know there's something on the line here, and we're kind of going out of order
here and up.
And it's just kind of a nice segue into this.
I know you get home field in the World Series.
Do you?
But does A does that really, really matter at the end of the day and B, I just, you know,
here's my deal.
And I'll package this as something that is every professional sport All-Star game.
Is it necessary anymore?
Is it really necessary?
And I think a lot of it is, to me, the major league baseball All-Star games, the only one
that doesn't tamper with the integrity of the fabric of the game, it's baseball.
With the National Football League, you can't blitz.
You can't do this.
The NBA All-Star game is no zone.
No this.
Well, I think, excuse me.
I think them pulling the pro ball out of Hawaii, the show was a horrible mistake.
Yeah, because it was the only thing the player, the players really looked for too, but the
one thing about it I did like was it gave Miami, great city, the soup real quick, the soup
ball on a bee in Miami and San Diego every year won't debate that, the hell with it.
Love you, Jerry.
Love the stadium, New Orleans, so be it.
Miami, San Diego, that's it.
Oh, we're going to have one outdoors in New York in 2014.
But my deal with back to the All-Star game, to me, the pro ball is something that's fun.
It's this quarterback can put blue powder on this ball and hit this target.
This guy can bench press 600 pounds, a hundred times in a row.
Nobody wants to play the seasons over, the super balls over, the fans don't care.
And the NFL tried to make a move with it that really just blew up in their face.
Because doing it the week between, you're not going to have your guys that are in the
Super Bowl playing this game at all.
His name's Peyton Manning.
Yeah.
And anybody that was on either one of those teams, and the whole debacle with being there
at the same time, and I don't want to get into that right now.
But any type of All-Star game, I just, it's nice.
And you know, tomorrow is one of the two days of the year where there is no sports at all.
My wife will be happy to know that much because she asked me that question one night and I
could not give her the answer.
So, honey, it's, it's, it's tomorrow.
There's, there's two.
That's one of them.
And the other one is the death of the Super Bowl.
And the national hangover day.
In this, in this town, we had a lot of the, the NBA All-Star game was here at Jerry
World, the death star.
Great stadium though.
Can't deny that.
That was fun.
That was a fun All-Star game because it was almost like Jerry sticking to Cuban because
for years, Cuban said, I will not have the All-Star game in Dallas because I will not
do my season ticket holders that way.
And Jerry said, I've got the bigger house.
Yeah.
And nobody's screwing your, your season ticket holders because they can stay, they have,
remember, they had everything else there.
It made it a way, I think, for Dallas to kind of show itself to the NBA to great.
I think at times, the NBA All-Star game is a dunk contest.
Is a, look at me, look at me, look at me.
No, no defense, no defense.
Yeah, it's just, it's pointless.
It'll be 170 to 165.
I don't, I don't think you do away with them, but man, are they really this important?
I know the, the All-Star game, the problem with it, the major league baseball All-Star
game is, is right now, nobody wants to play in it.
C.C.
Sebastian.
I don't want to play.
I don't want to play.
Um, why can't you take the, the managers from the ALCS and NLCS that you beat to coach
it?
I agree.
Let's see, I'm also of the same boat too, that now that the NFL is doing this Thursday
night opener, that should be a rematch of your Super Bowl.
But that's just me.
Now let's move on to another part of that All-Star game.
Have been last night.
The home run derby.
Can we kill this thing?
Because you've got, I mean, you had two of your major hitters pull out of this thing
within three or four days of it actually happening in, um, I just lost it.
I know Robinson Kanau and, from the Rangers, Josh Hamilton.
Because guys are saying it affects my swing the rest of the year, do we need this thing?
Well, Josh Hamilton is the one, and I'm not going to bag on a guy, I'm not going to
bag on a player.
He kind of started all that because he blamed the home run contest at Yankee Stadium,
the great old Yankee Stadium, for messing up the rest of his season.
I have a hard time believing that, but if he wants to do that, he can do that.
I think if you go from hitting against somebody, pitching 98, 100 to somebody lovin' up,
76, 70, 80, maybe, maybe 80, yeah, that does affect your swing quite a bit.
But Kanau was a little bit, he was told that not to mention this last name yet to a later
segment in it.
He was told by the Strombunner family.
He was not going to participate in the home run derby because he was having back spasms
and they need him for the stretch run.
And there's nothing wrong with that at all in my name.
He was trumped by ownership that said, no, you're not, I'm paying you X amount of dollars,
you aren't, Andy, father time.
Already?
Andy Pettit, greatness.
Where at the top of two when he's warming up?
The home run contest to me, I mean, you look who won it.
You look who won the thing.
Poppy?
Thanks for getting a haircut.
Poppy is a guy that, hey, all I know is once the needle came out of his posterior
or rumored, he ain't the same player.
Oh, allegedly.
And I've got people in Boston that love him.
Think he's great.
Think he's their Mickey Mantle, whatever.
All I'm saying is when the Roy thing came out, he ain't the same player.
And a lot of guys aren't the same player.
I mean, you can, you can make a, like Jose did, you can make a list.
Yeah.
I mean, yeah, I'd, I'd love to actually see that list.
Mm-hmm.
I'm right there with you on that.
I just, I just don't think it's, it's useless.
It's, it's something that ESPN can throw on the air and get vermin to go back, back,
back, back, back.
Every time you turn around, we'll feral in the booth last night beat it down even more.
Why is he there?
I like the guy, he does good movies, but I don't need him telling me that the greatest
angel of all time is, because we all know that's no one around.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I heard a story today of them talking about, was it Dave Winfield, it's time brother,
it's time brother to call him Mr. April.
Yeah.
Mr. May, Mr. May.
Mr. May is out there.
I got some, I got some stuff on that later on.
Okay.
Let's see what is, we talked, one of the things that we want to talk about is how does,
if you've got a rank, you're all star games and we'll limit it to the four majors.
Yeah.
Because one thing and it's, this is a sport that doesn't do much for me, but I was down
in Houston last weekend.
I don't know if you're aware, but Houston is the hope, the home for your MLS all star
game this year.
Major League Soccer.
Oh, that was a World Cup.
Oh, no, this is Major League Soccer.
Did you see how they're doing it though?
All of your Major League Soccer All Stars are on one team and they're playing some other
country.
They're playing Manu.
Really?
I like that.
And I said, you know what?
I'm going to give credit to that because that's kind of cool.
I like that.
Maybe where I'll do it in the NFL is have all our teams and they can just fire up Florida.
That's more NFL talent than a lot of NFL teams do.
We've been accused of less.
But I mean, I'm going to limit again to the big four.
Football, basketball, hockey, baseball.
I want you to rank them lowest to highest on women because to me, it's one a one one
a one B one C because it's a level playing field for me.
I want to see from your standpoint, how do you rank?
Well, I could actually, and I, you know what, when it comes to y'all star game, I'm a
venue guy.
Right.
Honestly, Angel Stadium, Anaheim does nothing for me, Finway, Riggly, Yankee Stadium does.
The pro bowl to me is the lowest one because I think the players are worn out.
The Super Bowl has been played.
They've played a grind of a season.
Yeah, they get their money.
But to me, Honolulu, come on, you host a low high bowl every year, weak bowl.
To me, you can't blitz.
You can't hit.
You've taken everything out of football if you can't hit.
I'll tell you what, I actually watched some of the hockey y'all star game and I like
that.
It's USA versus the world.
It's kind of an MLS thing.
Right.
Canada wins it.
The world wins every year.
You know, but this is the over under like 40 goals.
Yeah, but I do like and I like some of their skills competition.
I love their skills competitions.
So and then I think basketball, basketball is fun.
If you take the weekend, I hate the all, I hate these.
Do we need a mascot dunk contest?
Do we need a three point contest?
Do we just like do we need?
I like the three point contest.
I like the three point because I like the NBA skills competition.
I think that's kind of neat.
The legend current WNBA game, the rookie sophomore game, I like.
I enjoy that.
But I'm talking about the thing where they take the one WNBA player, the legend and the
current player.
They're taking half court shots for an hour and a half.
I'll tell you what, you're starting to commission or he'll trick it up.
He'll change the game on you.
He's been there too long, but he'll trick the game up on you.
And then I still think the all star game, I like it.
Now, two things.
They don't mess with the fabric of the game.
True.
They play baseball.
Two things.
They're, everybody, we're in different uniforms.
I hate the American national jersey.
No, they were, they're doing that tonight.
No, they're, they're in all those different uniforms tonight.
I like it.
Now, there's been times in the past, like it was when it was here in Texas, in Arlington.
They wore the American national jersey.
I don't like it.
I like to see the home-run derby and everything else.
That's fine.
As mid game, I need to see Derek Geteron pinch trots.
I need to see Chipper Jones with a Tomahawk crosses, Jess.
I need to see some of these guys in their uniforms, not national American.
some tricked up anoham logo on it. That's just one that's my opinion. To me though can
you apply that to all sports because I just I wonder you know because I kind of like
it in the NHL all-star game that they're wearing those those those separate jerseys. I like
it in East West in the NBA all-star game you know how does I kind of think it's cold
because it's the only time you're going to see it. And you know of course it's going
to do nothing but create more revenue because you're going to want that team's all that
players all-star jersey. But see and you talk about when it was here in Texas I actually
went to fan fest when it was here and got the little thing on my fitted braves hat and
I had a blast. And I just I really hope and we're going to talk about this in a future
semi because I want to talk about Super Bowl time in Arlington. That's not get it twisted
in Ain't Dallas. It's Arlington and that's and that's a whole topic of itself. But I
definitely want to get into that. The experience itself. I have a I had a blast when I was
there. We're going to see how it works out in Dallas. Now now we've talked about the
Major League Baseball all-star game. Let's go back and look at we are of course now that
we're at the all-star break. It is the halfway point of the season. No team leads their
division by more than four and a half games. And that is. So yeah. Well no that would
not be. That would be the Texas Rangers. I'll go backwards. They are now four and a half
up in the ALS for another week. All that tells me is you just got swept by Baltimore
and you're still four and a half up swept by a team that going into that series had nine
road winds all year. Yeah. I just I I'm not sold yet. You know I'm not we don't want
to regionalize this. But we live in this all year long. And it's the same thing till
this very day. And you have suffered through this single year. I've seen this. I've
done this. No, I will say this. When was the last time they had this kind of a lead. They
got to lead Vladimir Guerrero's is we don't know how old he is. He may be Danny Amante.
No, but I've seen it was when was the last time they had this kind of a lead. Man, I have
to go mid the the Johnny Oates run with Wondo and Will Clark and Rusty Greer and Pudge Rodriguez
back in the view. Older Ranger fans know. Man, that was when we've come across that the
Yankees every year. We're swept. I think we won one game. But there's been a couple additions
this team that I think are great. Vladimir Guerrero. He's an all star. If you're watching
the game right now, he's up to bat. Yeah, absolutely. Great addition. Once again, he's
like Danny Amante. I don't think we really know how old he's 104. For all we know he you
know, he might be the oldest Castro for all we know. He may be he may be Castro.
And another another team, another division, wacky division, the the the the the
A.O. Central Chicago has come out of the death to lead that thing of the all star break
by a half game over Detroit. Still not sold. That team is in
turmoil. It is. They are offered a rumor that they are thinking about making a
reality show about that team. Aren't that true or not? But oh, I know that that
it was a network. Ozzy got a Twitter account. Yeah. And that they said that that was
kind of someone they thought was pushing the limit. Exactly. And didn't he get
like a YouTube channel? Yeah, he's got a huge Aussie TV or something real
wheels off, but they are in a situation that you got Minnesota Detroit. That's
a that's a conference or excuse me, a division that's yo yo yo, yo yo teams, yo yo
teams up down, up, down, up, down. And I think that's going to go back and back
and forth. Now you move to the division where I think your world champion comes
out of. And that is the the A.O. East and the team in first place as usual, best
record in baseball, best home record, best road record. They are the New York
Yankees and they don't look like they're slowing down at all. They didn't need
Cliff lead, been nice to have him. They have a great farm system. They are
saying the next Pudge is behind their plate. One of them are all star affiliate.
Excuse me, minor league affiliates. They're up by two on Tampa. Tampa's
scrappy. Watch Tampa, Longoria. Yeah, they're they're they'll ruin your day
if you give me a chance. And I'll be I'll be seeing them live next month and I'm
going to bring you a report on that. But I want to touch on the Cliffly thing.
Yeah. And all I want to say about the Cliffly deal is I don't blame Saturday
night on Cliffly. No, absolutely not. You can't get a guy off a plane and put
him on a mound. Exactly. And a lot of people were I mean granted this guy was not
going to be this he's not the guy that's going to win you the World Series. Yeah.
But he's a piece now. Is he here 365 days from now? I'm not guaranteeing that.
I know that he wants a no trade clause when he gets his new contract.
He said that today. It's not going to be in this town. I don't think I don't
want to get an arranger sale ranger. I don't want to do that. I'm tired of hearing
about it. I've got my head hurts. Yeah, literally. I would have to be shocked if
you did not see him Cliffly becoming New York Yankee next year. I really
think you've got some guys in New York on the line with the a rod in Jeter.
And I think they're really going to expect ownership, especially what happened
today. Really step up the game and show and keep that stomping or tradition that
we're going to go out and get the biggest guy, the biggest bat, the biggest
storm, the biggest glove. And we're going to win the championship.
And you know what? Let's talk about that. The day of the All Star
game, you called me this morning. I was actually on my way to work picking up a
little breakfast to inform me that at 4 a.m. Eastern time
today in the great city of Tampa. I got family there. I'll be there next month
again. Well, of course, they'll be playing the Orioles. But really the reason I'm
going is train playing a concert after the game. Fear the Oriole. I'm watching
trains playing a concert after the game. That's really why I'm going. Hey,
solstice. George Steinbrenner passing away.
I'm going to say it. And you know, I'm not a Yankee fan.
End of an era. Now, it was great. It was an end of an era when he stepped
away from the team. But there's a finality to it now.
And we'll come back to that. And we'll do the NL. I think you have to tie
in George Steinbrenner with the AL. Absolutely. You know, it's funny.
Speaking of George, you know, bottom from CBS 1973 for eight
million. For eight point eight. No, no, well, well, it was 10. And there's a
funny story. I did some research today. I didn't want to come in here without a
bullet in the gun. Like to hear that. Bottom for 10 million.
And at that time, CBS, the bet they owned them for eight seasons.
The best record the Yankees had with CBS only then was second in the A
at least in 1960. And what year did he buy the team? He bought the team in
73 year I was born. And CBS actually sold the team for 10 million.
But George Steinbrenner owned two parking garages close to CBS studios in
New York, which he sold to CBS for 1.2 million a pot, which they took off the
purchasing price of the Yankees. He's turned 8.8 million into 1.2
billion in 30 years. The most expensive sports franchise in the world.
11 titles, 11 pennets, seven world series and had a 566 winning percentage.
That will never be duplicated. Most important franchise in the world right now.
Today, yes. I'll agree with that. And the Cowboys fans are going to come out
in droves. And I'm going to tell you something to 27 world championships.
I didn't think and it's pure simple. You had the lowest MLB playoffs.
So you're the Yankees didn't make it. And I'll agree with that.
Nobody cared. Yeah. Boston was great. They beat what Colorado that year.
No, that was Tampa filling. It was Tampa Bay, Philadelphia. Great story.
Philadelphia had one in a while. Tampa's a new upstart.
Great story. He's wearing the coil. They were in the in the toilet.
I think one thing about George Steinbrenner, we're starting to a lot of things
they didn't know about him was he has a national title ring.
He was an assistant coach on one of the Woody Hayes Ohio State
national championship teams back in 1956. Michigan fans hate him. So I'm sure we get
all that. They claim that he's the one that got one of their quarterbacks to
join the Yankees as a third baseman. So just because he couldn't play against Ohio State
that year. Don't know if that's, you know, that's that's neither, neither here nor
there. If you go to Ann Arbor, it's probably the gospel.
Oh, I'm sure. You know, his dad, he tried to buy the Indians.
He tried to buy the Indians in 1970 from Vernon Stofer.
If your wife can't cook and you like frozen dinners, you know, who Stofer's is.
Millionaire actually end up selling. If you've been to college, you know, it's still
for this great lasagna. Hey man, it takes forever to cook and fall.
And he ended up selling the Indians 10 years later for 10 million.
And George just took his ball went down the Manhattan.
And at that time, CBS was treating the Yankees like an Andy Griffith show,
a I love Lucy Americana type feel. And attendance was down at Yankee Stadium.
The stadium was horrible. It literally still was the house that Ruth built at that time.
And George Stormbinner, Wheeling dealer, like he was,
convinced the five years later to remodel Yankee Stadium and had to play it
for two years and 78 at the stadium reopens, attendance is up.
And the free agents on this list, guys, are unlabeled.
That's put on that uniform.
Alex Rodriguez, you know, Dave Winfield, Reggie Jackson, Roger Clemens, David Cone.
The list goes on and on and on. I think if you want to win a title,
you go to New York, you win your ring.
Everybody that goes there successful. He's the most successful owner ever.
I don't know, man. Good for baseball.
I don't know. He started an era, a free agent era.
I'll tell you the amazing thing is that he passes within 48 hours of Bob Shepherd,
the legendary announcer of the Welcome to Yankee Stadium.
That guy, I mean, I can't do that voice, but 48 hours.
You lose both of them. Both of them.
No, both huge. Well, George Stormbinner is a Titan in this, in this business to me,
or this deal we call, uh, that's how baseball go.
According to Ron Washington. Yes, sir.
And that's, you know, that's one of them deals.
Thank you for having me. Yeah.
One thing born on the fourth of July.
What's he really? Not just a movie.
Not just a, no, he wasn't a non. Um,
any own to shipping company. I mean, the stories of this guy,
but one thing that I think you really, really can, can see by him.
He started the hair. If you remember, if you're a Yankee fan,
which I am a Yankee fan, sir, you are.
Hey, clean cut.
He started the whole short hair, no beards, no moustaches.
You're going to look presentable when you're on the field.
Johnny Damon. Yeah.
And, um, if you, you know, um, the hair policy was a big deal.
Also with George had one motto that a lot of people,
you want to want the man summed up and one thing.
It's breathe first, winning second, family third.
And he demanded, he goes, every man has an extra 10% in him.
I need, I want to tap into that extra 10%.
If you work for George Steinbinder,
Gianbi said it best, even a manager who let's be honest,
the Marlins fired the guy. Yep.
Joe Torrey couldn't manage it in Atlanta.
Couldn't manage in New York, Metz.
Couldn't manage in St. Louis.
He comes New York.
We're talking to him.
We're talking him like Sparky Anishar and Casey Stiegel.
Yeah.
Steinbinder could really honestly,
Jerry said it in the 90s with the Cowboys.
I don't know if the manager positions that big of a deal.
Now it'll get you fired if you're not winning probably two rings
over five years better than that.
Steinbinder was with a very hard, hard, hard man.
He will be missed.
So until you mentioned, you mentioned, Jerry David.
You mentioned, Jerry.
You mentioned, Jerry.
I can honestly answer this question.
Can you put Jerry or Cuban or any one of their ill?
Because really, and yes, we are in Dallas,
and we kind of get Dallas focused sometimes.
But in this town, you have two of the most
recognizable sports owners on the planet outside of Bob Kraft.
I can't put either one of those cats in the same breath,
much less the same room or the same category of Steinbinder.
Well, the thing about Mark Cuban is he might be Steinbinder
for Yolk and the LA Lakers or the New York Knicks or all.
But if he owns those teams, isn't the same thing you got now?
He could be.
Because Jerry bus is a jingle.
When I think about Mark Cuban, I don't know if you ever saw,
there was an episode of the Simpsons that he was a guest voice on.
And he convinces Mr. Burns to buy the local basketball team.
And there's a line that he has.
And granted, I love Cuban for the fact that he can poke fun of himself.
But he says this line where he's talking to Mr. Burns and he goes,
Hey, wait a minute.
I haven't made a spectacle myself in the last 30 seconds.
That to me sums up Cuban.
I mean, he's been great for the Mavericks.
He's made the Mavericks a recognizable brand.
He's made them a recognizable team
to a team that really nobody cared about before.
Yeah, you know, and he bought the Mavericks Don Carter.
Horrible. He was worried about home interior and bowling alley.
Jerry.
Jerry wants to be George.
Oh, Jerry wants to be George something.
Jerry wants to go on the episodes like, you know,
George was on Seinfeld.
Also had an impersonation, but he's made some real appearances.
Jerry was on Onterrosh this week.
I have not watched it.
It's on my DVR, but I know he's on there.
And I've been told Cuban's going to be on there too.
I think Jerry is as close as you're going to get to me.
Till Mark Cuban wins an NBA title,
till he wins a championship in some sport,
whether he does, if he is a partner in this ranger deal,
I think that's a smokescreen.
I think that in order for him to go, I'm one of these elite owners.
He has to win a championship.
George had seven rings, 11 penets.
He was Mr. New York.
Now I will tell you this.
I don't know if this is as big as a loss.
If it is, if he owns the San Diego Padres.
Okay.
And the results are the same.
I think if the Padres win seven world series and 11 penets,
I just don't know
with it being in New York, New York,
you know, this country is New York sports crazy.
We always think the nicks are going to win it every year in the Giants.
And now it's J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets.
That's all I've heard.
I think right if it was in another...
I just had a side note looking forward to hard knocks.
Just want to say that on the side note.
I just don't know.
I think if the results were the same in a different city
as in a San Diego, a Baltimore, somewhere that wasn't New York,
I don't even think it gets the same height with the Mets.
It just happened...
It's the Yankees.
It's the Yankees.
It's Americana.
It's Babe Ruth.
It's Mickey Mouse.
Write down the reason that red, white, and blue hats sits on the bat.
I mean, that's, you know, for all intensive purposes in baseball.
And they used to say this about my braves.
And they used to annoy me.
That's America's team.
Yeah, they are.
And great segue in this.
Let's move on to the NL.
Okay.
Okay.
The NL.
All I know is if it was the Launching Pad
and the Tomahawk chop was out.
Woo, don't get me started, brother.
You know, that's my team.
Atlanta, probably the shock in the East.
I agree.
Four up on the Mets.
Young team Bobby Cox last year.
Bobby, you may want to come back, brother,
because they have a great,
nucleus of young players.
And they've done it the way they've always done it in hot Atlanta.
They've built it through the draft and through the farm system.
They are the anti- Yankees.
Yeah.
They don't do the Stormbrinner.
They don't whip out who's got the biggest pencil.
The biggest checkbook, Atlanta loves to build within
glaven, smolts, you know, so on and so forth.
David Justice.
Chipper.
Chipper, farm guys.
They're the anti Yankees and they have also great results.
And not the Buffalo Bills of baseball,
because we did win one.
Did win one.
Uh, in another one, the central wacky,
usually a cardinal dominated division,
since an adiab by half game at the break.
And, and I love, let me,
I love Albert Poole's debatedly best player in baseball.
But how far does loyalty go?
He, he's, he's next year's LeBron.
I agree.
I mean, I love the fact that he resigned with St. Louis on his last
go around.
He wants to win there.
He wants to be there.
But at some point, you got to go.
This is starting to really frustrate me.
Yeah.
I think the thing with him is different than LeBron,
LeBron's 25, 32 year old slugger post steroid era.
I think Albert's best days behind him.
I think it's good to probably stay.
Hey, you got a ring.
Yeah.
Got a title.
You're the toast of the town.
I have my, uh, my in-laws have ties to St. Louis.
So I have some cardinal fans in my, my family.
They tell me that they think Albert stays,
because the fact he is 32 years old, probably nobody's
going to pay him the type of money.
People throw him on Boston.
Of course, when he's here free agent,
you think New York marked a share to me right now.
He's 29 years old.
Don't make the move.
I think Mark Tashira does stay in New York.
And I think if you're marked to share,
where else are you going to go?
And he is so one of those guys that got a thing
about Mark that concerns me.
He's hot cold.
Yeah.
You know, like Arod is.
You know, he's the guy to me.
And Arod's just, he's, he's patient zero in this category.
Last year, hitting home runs when you're up 15 runs.
And I got, and they're winning despite Dusty Baker.
They're in Cincinnati.
And I got a question.
Can you name a red?
A Cincinnati red.
Johnny Bench?
It was a red.
I'll take the rose, then.
If you're taking chocolate.
And over in the West, another shock.
You know, you hear Lichcom.
You heard the Giants were just going to run.
They were going to them in the Yankees in the series.
San Diego's opened up a two and a half game lead at the break
over San Francisco.
And Carol in Colorado is just a game
back of San Francisco in that.
So Colorado to me.
Outside of when they went nuts in that one year.
They're that team that they just lived a ruin your day.
Yes.
And the Padres to me are the Rangers of the national.
I'll tell you, I was up in, I was up in,
actually, honeymoon in Colorado.
And I don't know what that,
that Dinbur area is fully embraced the,
the, the, the Rocky.
I've always kind of been shocked how they've made it in that town.
But they are, they're a team that,
they're always running.
The Broncos, the Broncos own that town.
Let's be honest.
Yeah, they do.
That's what, that's what's bad.
Wild card A.O. real quick Tampa three up on Boston.
Colorado and the Dodgers tied for the N.O. Wild card.
The Mets one game back.
And I'll be honest with you surprises this year.
My main one surprises had to be in Atlanta.
I think the Braves, they were kind of a scrap piece team
with a, please let them be back.
The bunch of parts and you had Chipper,
who's kind of the cornerstone.
And then this cat comes off of the farm system.
Let me tell you people something.
I've been listening a lot of people and they're saying,
if you can keep him out of pinstripes,
not the blue ones, cut them.
If you can keep him out of the Navy pinstripes,
he is a, he's a Fred McGriff David Justice type player
where you can build a cornerstone of an organization
around that bat.
And I think they were, yeah,
not out of the farm system to my knowledge.
He was straight out of the draft.
So they did draft him.
Okay.
Yeah, that was straight.
That was the thing is people were saying
you're going to start this kid straight out.
And he comes out and sets the world on fire.
And I think another thing that we've got,
I got two more surprises real fast.
Um, I think, and it's crazy.
I think Cincinnati.
And I'm in the NL as far as surprises.
I know I'm kind of there.
I've got some A L ones winning despite Dusty Baker.
Never thought he was that great.
He was great when he had bonds in San Francisco,
Chicago and this Cincinnati great guy.
Great guy.
Love him on the, love him on the stick.
Love him in the booth.
But I don't like him on my bench.
And I think another one and I know this is beating a dead horse
is San Diego.
You know, last worst team in the majors last year.
Besides Nationals.
I still think that they're the Rangers of the NL.
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
I did not do the Ranger just surprised because there's no
surprise to us.
So it's not surprising to anybody else.
It'll be surprised that some people in some sections of the
country that this place still has a team.
And in the, I think you got to go the A L central.
A division that people thought Chicago was kind of going to
run away and hide with and you still have Detroit
despite being gutted other than Burlander.
And some other spare guys.
I don't know where that great.
We're going to hide in there on the can.
Yeah.
That's the second time.
Jeter's gotten buzzed.
And then I think, I think with, with Boston not being as good.
I really thought Boston, you know, they made all these moves
and they were back and Yankees got the ring and it really
teed them off and they've been a disappointment.
And that bring me to my, to my woes.
I attendants.
Nobody's showing up at these games, baseball.
If you're not in New York or you're not in Atlanta or you're
not a team that wins, I mean, and let me tell you something.
Listener of the podcast.
If you're ever here, if you ever, if those of you that don't live here,
if you live here, you know, if you ever come to maybe visit one of us
or if you find yourself in the Dallas area during baseball season,
do yourself a solid.
Go see a game at that ballpark because I've said a million times.
I don't care who the Rangers play.
Honestly, I don't care if they win or lose.
If I get a ticket to the ballpark brother, I'm there because there's
just something about that ballpark that's just, I just love going there.
Two words for you.
Super nachos.
You know what?
You're absolutely right.
Super nachos, one hand beer and another or dollar dog night.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
You don't dollar dog night.
Get there early.
Get you about $10 because you ain't going to go back.
They're not even selling for two bucks in this thing.
Exactly.
And I think that's timebrunner thinking.
And I don't want to say Chicago Cup fan.
You're not relevant.
You're not relevant.
They are the biggest disappointment every single year in loyal fan base.
God bless them.
This team is the Rangers are closer to the World Series and the Cubs are right now.
They have nothing to farm system.
They've got an aging derickly.
The best player on their team is Serrano.
And I'm not the dude from age relief.
No.
Did I say that wrong?
Soriano.
Yeah.
Serrano.
Pedro Serrano and former president on 24.
Yes, he was.
Excuse me.
And another team.
Clifley.
I know.
Seattle.
They were supposed to be a team that was really supposed to push.
And they are horrible.
Horrible.
Right stadium.
Right stadium.
Lost their best player.
Horrible.
Done.
Seattle's done.
And that is a first half wrap up.
You don't like baseball.
I'm sorry.
That's for it through it.
If you don't like that part,
you're probably not going to like the next part.
Because this is the weekend of the British Open.
And I just want to touch on this very briefly
because the tiger thing's been beaten into the ground.
But it is a major.
Yeah.
Have you been have you been listening to any of the coverage?
Because I'm going to taste them and you think you think American press is tough.
Go face a British press conference.
British son.
Woo brother.
And they've been pulling no punches with him.
And I don't think that
A he should have expected that.
Because the American press can be a little
a little touchy feely, a little tap dancing.
But the British.
British press doesn't care.
They don't have anything at stake with you.
You refused to talk to them.
They got 20 other guys.
They got, you know, they've got David Beckham.
They can talk about hell.
They'll talk about John daily if they've got time.
Yeah.
I've heard, you know, I don't, I don't.
Obviously never been a Scotland.
I am a tiger needs a win.
I think he has to win this.
I think that he has to.
He needs to curve it around and figure out what's going on as far.
I know it's tough.
You know, I've never run around.
I've never, I've probably not slept with 125 women at one time.
Oh, allegedly.
Allegedly.
Another confirmed order to Shay.
I just think Tiger, we need to see that Sunday in red and that look.
And I think one thing about Tiger that he had with everybody,
he had a mental edge over his opponent.
Yep, he's lost that because he was bigger than life.
He was he was Tiger, Joe, he was E Tiger Woods.
Yeah.
You know, and I think that he's still, he's got it in him.
He just, he has to find it.
I'm going to tell you this.
If I give you him versus the field, are you still taking him?
At this, hey, he's, he's dominant there.
I'll never bet against him, but I might put some side money on the field.
The thing about this Tiger and he's great at a course like this because we're not playing
target golf.
We are hitting long drives.
It's the fairways kind of woody to me.
It looks like a goat ranch.
It really, well, it really does.
I mean, you, you play British Open courses.
The links courses are a much different texture than we play here.
Us being both fairly novice golfers.
And I've also played, you know, those courses on Tiger Woods go.
But the, the grass is thinner.
The ball's going to move a lot quicker.
He's got to, he's got to learn, especially right now with where he's at.
He's got to dig into the bag.
Yeah.
And you know, and it's okay to lay it up a little bit every once in a while.
Now, and I think one thing about the Tiger thing that probably this,
just appoints a lot of fans.
And of course, me, I love the, I mean, you could not dodge a guy like Tiger Woods.
You know, kind of like Michael Jordan, the 90s, everybody became a Bulls fan in some way.
If Jordan was in the final, you read it for the Bulls.
I think Tigers like that in a way that if it's a major,
and it's Tiger, and it's Sunday, you read for Tiger.
I don't know if that's the same anymore.
I think as he's within reach.
Yeah, I mean, if he's two back and don't let him miss the cut,
that's all I'm saying.
I live on the mound.
But not a Ranger All-Star.
And I'm going to say it.
Yeah.
You came to this team four days ago.
Yeah.
I don't let him wear a Seattle uniform, be honest with you.
I just, I, Tiger is an enigma.
He was such a, a, a mind.
I know that he was a cerebral assassin.
I don't want to pull that out from another totally different walk a lot of sport.
But he was a guy that he made you think you were better than him.
And at the very end, he walked away and just took,
took, hey, took your girl, took your title, took your money,
took everything and ate your lunch and ate your lunch.
And I think Tiger has to get that back where people are scared.
Playing and playing in front of him scares you.
And I think he needs to get that back.
Man, I, the field other than Mikkelson and then you put in these British guys,
your elves and your, and your, those guys.
Man, I just, I think Tiger should have taken a year off.
I said that from the get-go.
I think it would have gotten worse.
I think that, I think the, he had to come back because if he didn't depress,
you think it was bad now.
They would have, he, he wouldn't have had anything to come back to.
Because they would have torn him and Lim from Lim so much that his return to golf
would have, it might have made entertainment tonight.
It might have, you know, and that's one thing.
I, hey, man, I wouldn't, I, I don't condone a lot of things.
We like to joke and like to say about.
But I think once you stand before God and you take that, that, that promise.
Yes, sir.
I'll take that very seriously.
It's called a vow for a reason.
Elon was great looking.
She still is.
Hey, no was.
That's, that's President's brother.
So if you're a Tiger, I know there's a lot of guys.
She got 100 million.
She's good looking.
I love what Seth Meier said about him on Saturday Night Live.
And the first thing broke, he said, you know,
Elon won't be with him this weekend.
She's taking the kids to Switzerland.
She says, you want to know how big of a D bag Tiger Woods is when you'd rather
put your kids on a plane and fly towards an active volcano.
Green one at work.
Huh?
No, they're not.
That's going to be another because we got one more topic to deal with
because we're at the one 15 mark at this point.
I want it every week.
We're going to talk about a list.
And I made our first list of the day.
And I haven't really consulted you on this list
because I wanted to, I wanted to read it to you.
And I want your reactions there.
You go to a live sporting event.
That's what you all have as we all have.
And I will continue to do as long as we don't shuffle off this mortal coil.
There are certain songs that to me need to be removed from the playlist of the stadium
or the arena.
You go to see teams in.
And I'm giving you 10.
And I'm going to count it down from 10 up to one.
From least of the worst to absolute worst of the worst.
Number 10.
And this song just beats me down anyway.
Like if Baja Man show up in any form, I'm done.
But when who let the dogs out fires up.
This thing, and if you remember when this song came out,
you couldn't go to a sporting event.
Yeah, it was kind of like, I don't know if I'm a quarterback and it's third and eighth.
Games alone, I don't know if I need to hear the Baja Man.
Who let the dogs out unless you play for Georgia.
You know, yeah, or Cleveland.
You know, horrible song in any walk of life.
Agreed.
Agreed.
I think it's too low.
It's too low on the ass.
As we go on this list, though, you'll, you'll,
because and the reason I put it there was because,
and this next one too, I put at number nine,
because this one, good song.
Yes, indeed.
But do I, especially being, being Dallas guys,
you can't go to a cowboy game and not hear this song.
And I'm not talking about one of them alive,
because still a good song.
Yeah, I'm talking about welcome to the jungle.
Every team uses it to warm up with it's,
I mean, even even in at the high school level,
I've heard it with the PAs.
I've heard it pretty much everywhere.
What's bad is it's a, in its tents of one of the greatest rock albums ever,
appetite for destruction.
I'll agree with that.
Great song was in a movie, a Deadpool,
one of the dirty, hairy movies where Jim Carrey's one.
Very, very unknown Jim Carrey.
I was going to ask you if you knew that.
And great song, great album, great frontman.
I think it was the jungle supposed to be this crazy place.
And NFL stadiums and arenas, I guess, are crazy places.
And I mean, hey, what, there's several stadiums.
I've got jails on them, so they must be.
I'm on board with that.
I love the album, love the band, the song,
way overplayed here on the radio in XM,
about five to ten times as it is.
Don't need to hear it on Sunday.
Number eight.
And I'm going to be, I know I'm going to be
burned at the stake for this and I don't care.
So done, so done with the charge.
It's been used since 1833 when they played baseball with,
what was it, Alabama said, playing baseball with shirt rocks?
I just, I can't, I can't.
Sol Meal Flags for back as well.
I just, it just wears me out.
You know, I was actually, and I'm going to,
this is funny.
That was cool when you had an organ lady.
to me still though. I saw the original organ in the Yankee Stadium there when I
toured at the old Yankee Stadium. Cool. Oh wait, way past it's time. It'd be
different if Robert E. Lee and you'll see us grant. We're on the team. Not
any more done. We need we need. Hey, people local bands. My partner here's in a
band. I am. Somebody create a new stadium song. See, I love that Pantera
Dallas star theme. Greatness. All they did is they took guitar songs,
told us from two different songs, put it down a star's chin, done. And it was
great. I would I'm lean more towards Cowboys from Hell with them. Oh, hey, hey,
I don't know what Pantera you like. Number seven. And there's one reason and one
reason only this is on this list. And if I can get some music bed underneath
this so you can hear the song I'm talking about, if not go look it up. Google it.
Serious by the Alisson Allen Parsons project. You may not know it by name.
Very long song. It's entirety. Yes, but it was. It was really the song that
kind of established the bit that Chicago, Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding,
light went out. Here come the scoreboard. Now everybody choosing his and unless
you're the Chicago Bulls in the late 80s and early 90s that doesn't count.
I won't tell you what in the shot town you heard that you better get your ass
hand to you. That's true. We'll not debate that at all. I will tell you that.
But you know and clear something up for me because it was a debate I was having
this weekend. The Mavericks currently using a half-row years are using that eminence front
by the who. That is correct. Aren't the Lakers using that too? No, the Boston Celtics
work. I know somebody. I don't know what L.A. is using some, like some big deal. Speaking
to which that was one that should have been on the list is that, is it get ready for
this? Oh, no, they don't do that much anymore though. Number six. And this is this is a baseball
thing. The beginning of car wash by Rose Rice. This thing. And that's it. I'm waiting for
the air and you never get it. Yeah, that's just trying to, you know, that's a, I don't know
how many stadiums. That's a big player out there at the at the temple there in Arlington.
Hated to me. I love the game, the game of baseball. I'd actually sometimes rather listen
to baseball in the radio to hear the announcers, how they call stuff. I think one thing about
it's gotten very generic. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Nobody's thinking outside the ball. I think you
always, the mindset is we got to have something playing. Fans, interest, fans, kids, kids,
fans, interest. I think sometimes. Although I will watch a dot race on you. If you do, and
when you're free, Osaka, ball, they're not it, participating in your store. But they're
doing it live now. It's not on the board. Where they had the job. Oh, no, so great. So great.
Went out there when the cubs were in town and out. And part of the reason I want to go
is at Milwaukee, or is it Chicago? There's the South. It is Milwaukee. I want to see that.
I want to see that before I die. Great city for a terrible team. Your number five is I
would rather have a root canal. And number five is Nana. Hey, hey, hey, kiss him goodbye
by steam. The most. And it's not number one because this is not overused songs. This is
overrated songs. That song. I mean, we see it on WWE programming. Forgot to. Yeah. It's
just, I mean, if you're steam, you love it because it was the only hit you have. And
you're probably making millions to this day off of royalties. But you know, it's only
bit only bit on a certain level for them. I mean, they come out with anything. I don't
believe it. And I'll just do research on that. But I, but the, and on a certain level
to me, bad sportsmanship. Yeah. I noticed that they do a lot of that. Well, I know that
at the at some ballpark, now they're playing the Johnny Cash ring of fire when they pull
the picture. Yeah, it's tough to break on. Johnny greatness. Uh, steam, not number four.
And I stand by this. And it may need to be a little bit higher is we will rock you by
queen. I like queen. I think they've done some great stuff. They, I mean, I want it all
great song. Who wants to live forever? Great song. Bohemian Rhapsody. Not so much. Unless
it's the muppets because that's genius. Looked it up on YouTube. But we will rock you.
It's almost as bad as, and I just totally lost it because my phone vibrated and it blew,
it just blew my, my train of thought. It just, it just didn't, and nobody knows the words.
Everybody knows the words. Everybody's just gonna. We will say, Oh, God, come on. Know the song.
Great, great band. Low point. This was towards the end of queen and towards the end of Freddie
Mercury's life. Another show. Yeah. Great band. Great song. I know it was really big over
in British, uh, Britain first with the British soccer. First of all was kind of their
bit and then it kind of migrated across the pond. Um, don't like it. Don't like what
follows it. Um, and sometimes that song is played in a to some with we are the champions.
Yeah. Okay. I've actually looked at and I've added a couple. I've got a couple on here.
I want to go at you real fast. And we'll, we can deal with that one a little bit here.
Where we, uh, we're doing. Okay. Number three. And, and this, and this may be a local
thing. If you go to a ranger game and I, I think I've heard this in other parks too. During
the seventh inning stretch, because now you've got God bless America. Then you have to do,
uh, take me out to the ball game, which I will never put that on any list because that's,
that's, that's the tradition of the game. But to follow it with the cotton, I freaking
Joe. You know, first of all, isn't it by like a Swedish group? Is it red next like now?
That you're opinion. There's been a several versions of that. That's the one they use. We're
from the red next. No, we're from Texas. We got to do our own thing. I can't wait till college
football season. Um, here, uh, horrible song, old and new, uh, have attempted in a very,
uh, certain state, tried to do the cotton, not Joe and not, uh, there's no video evidence.
Not over now. But old song, um, old country song. Can, amen. You want to pack all you want to get
a bunch of, uh, overweight women and tight Rockies, uh, throw out the cotton on Joe at Cowboys,
Red River, because that will pack a dance line. That was, that was not me for the record. Just
what was that number two. And I, I put this as one of the most overrated songs all of all time
period. Hey, it's good gimmick, different costumes in Wayne's World, too. Yeah. Remember,
because they got stuck in the bar and they all just happened to be dressed at different
old spots. Yes. YMCA. Can we please, first of all, can we all get on the same page?
Are we going to do the M as we touch our fingers to the top of our head? Or are we going to do
the M as we bend over like we're bowing and then and because I've seen that too, where the M
becomes this, where you bend over and you put your arms out, which I think is very strange.
I won't do it at all. I just, um, I just, the YMCA to me is the wave.
Yeah. But see, at least the way, we'll see the problem with the wave though. YMCA ends at some
point. Yeah. I've watched waves go away killer. I watched waves go for entire innings. I'm a wave
killer. I will just sit there. Well, that may be another, that may be another, another list for
another day is most overrated crowd participation. Yes. Exactly. Number one on this list. And there's
one reason and there's one reason only. And I'm very passionate about this. It's, it's rock and roll
part one by Gary Glitter. And I'm going to tell you why. I honestly am of the opinion that every
arena and every stadium should never play the song again ever ever, because this guy was Gary Glitter
was convicted of child pornography. And the fact that we allowed this song to be played in Paul
Parks and played in in arenas. It's just especially hockey. I mean, every goal you ever hear scored in
hockey, that song plays. And it's actually you can even, I don't know now, but I know that some of
the early in HL games by EA featured this game after a goal score, which I don't, I haven't played
that in a long time. So I may not know that to be true anymore. But at one time, it was prevalent
on their games. I just, it's, it's number one on the list. It will never be anything but number one
on this list. And if you are listening and you have anything to do with the sound of an arena
or a stadium, please kill this thing. And I'm going to tell you because it, because I'm going to
get emails from people saying, well, what about people that play like thrill or at the games? And this
is a, and that's a discussion for another podcast too. Dude was never convicted. True, never proven.
And, and one of the things about that, and I'm just going to tease this. There's a book out there
that a guy wrote about the life of Michael Jackson, that he specifically set out to
prosecute him, to prove his guilt. By the end of the book, he says, he actually says the words,
I'm actually gone the other way with it. There's no way this could have actually happened. And so
Gary Glitter convicted Michael Jackson, not convicted. And that's the difference to me. Yeah.
Mike Strangelife. And that's that that could be an entire podcast in itself. Yeah, Strangelife.
You know, that, that, that, that song, I didn't even know the name of it for a lot of years and
seeing it on print just makes me glad that he was a spare. Remember the, he was just, he wanted to be
out in John. So bad. He could taste it. Real Britishy. Yeah. I think one that was left off here was
I of the tiger. I, you know, I thought about that actually. With I of the tiger, it's kind of
faded. If you're Auburn, if you're, if you're the Cincinnati Bengals, I'll roll with you. If
you're Detroit, but the cat, but still Detroit Tigers. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Okay. Okay. Excuse me.
I just, I don't know. I almost put down there, but I was like, you know what? I haven't heard it
in a, in a game in a while. Um, and I can't ever discount survivor of the Italian hair band.
Because of one thing. Real American genius. Real men of genius. You can't that do. Wait a
bit. That are most interesting man in the world. Real men of genius. Because the thing about
most interesting man in the world. Give me something new. Went to a psychic, just a Warner.
I've got an entire CD in my iPod of just real men of genius. It's, and they did two volumes of
this thing. Nothing better. With such a great son. Texas high school football champion.
Because of the way it ends when he goes. Because you will never forget that game you threw two,
three touchdowns mainly because you won't let us. That is genius. That sums up a lot of people in
this town. Um, but hey, I was such a great son. My mom has a tattoo of son on her own. I'll say,
I'm not going to discount the most interesting man in the world. Because some of that's,
what was it? He goes, he wants punched a clown in the face. Yeah, you heard me. Yeah, you heard
me. It was something about a dentist at one point. Yeah, it's a great bit. I think that's what
keeps us drinking beer. I think it's funny. I think that's, that's, that's it. Don't say
he's greatness. If you haven't had it, it doesn't make you interesting. It makes it crazy. But it
makes me think of a Chris Farley bit, which is Spanish for the two equis. And also we are the
champions. I'm, I'm one that, um, I noticed everybody. I don't care who it was played at
little under a month ago in L.A. And of course, Yankee Stadium and the Super Bowl and this,
that and the other and heck you may hear if your local P. We team wins a turkey bowl.
As we are the champions, once again, it's usually connected to that. We will rock you song. Um,
great band towards the end way overplayed. Yeah. And then I mean, I, and they're one of those,
Queen is one of those bands to me that. That's not even the best stuff on those albums.
No, no. You know, there's so many bands and that, and that's going to be one that I'll probably
have to take the lead on one week is bands that have great songs that you may have never even heard.
You know, there's, I mean, I could name, I could rattle off four or five albums right now
that I can put on beginning to end and go not a bad song on the whole album. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
Joshua Tree. I mean, that's right on top of my head. Great. Greatest rock, rock band of my
generation and one of the greatest albums ever recorded. Um, I'll, I'll do it too. Shout out to the
devil. Woo. I mean, you put in a mouth. You want to watch the definition of behind the music if
you've never seen Motley Cruz. Now watch him now because they're remastering. They're adding the new
stuff. But that, that band is the definition of behind the music. Yeah. But shout out the devil.
Great album. Let it roll. Um, I'll tell you this real quick. I know we're getting short on time
here. Um, Nellie's number one. Uh, am number one. But you know what? There's actually a song that
I, that another song that he does that I'm surprised people aren't using. There's, it's on his
sweat album. It's called Heart of a Champion and he does it with some choir and it's to the tune
of NBA on NBC that. And it's, I'm the heart of a check. I can feel my ring coming and it's,
it's a great song and nobody uses it. Yeah. Send that to Miami. Oh, on that note. That's going to
do it for us this week. We're going to try to do this every week. It's not going to be it will
weekly right off the bat. But once we get the wheels on this thing and get the machine moving,
you will have a new episode of the clubhouse every week. We'll be publishing it on our Facebook
pages. Uh, it'll be an iTunes as well. So until next time, the clubhouse is officially closed. Hey,
and if you see us, burst. Wow. That was the thing. How about that?
Some stuff in there. Very interesting in hindsight. Maybe a little foreshadowing on some of that.
You never know. That was a lot of fun to listen to. I actually found myself laughing
more than one moment at some of the stuff that we did. I mean, back then there were, you heard
a couple of points. There was some clicking and popping code. He was actually on a wireless microphone.
We only had one wired mic that I was using. The desk was actually facing the wall and he was on
the other side. It was very strange and not conducive to podcasting back then. But we've come a
long way in the last seven years and change. We're going to continue to grow. But I wanted you
guys to hear that because there's just a lot of fun. So we hope you enjoyed the re-airing of the
original pilot episode of the clubhouse podcast when it was the clubhouse, then the clubhouse with
Robin Cody, then the clubhouse podcast. I had a blast. Can I believe me? I sat here the whole
time with the headphones on. Listen, I hope you enjoyed it too. That being said, let's do the plugs.
