We're gonna talk about it on our new show
this coming Sunday night.
But for those of you that are gonna freak out
because we skipped a number,
we didn't skip a number.
We just couldn't record it at the time.
So what I'm gonna be doing for you
is I'm gonna play the one-hour broadcast
that we did live from Who Need Sleep
2017.
It was again a 36-hour internet telephone.
We raised a bunch of money, had a blast,
had a bunch of people show up.
We're gonna be doing this again,
Labor Day Weekend September 1st and 2nd.
So get ready for that.
So what you're about to hear is season 8 episode 23.
Sequentially this will be episode 426.
The audio is gonna sound a little rough.
We had some lying noise down there
and I'm gonna apologize for that ahead of time.
And there was some trouble getting some transitions
from the main studio, studio A to studio B,
where we were.
So we're gonna pick up right after I have done
the normal intro saying that it was 10 PM
central standard time on Friday, December,
actually this was Saturday to Sunday.
So it was Saturday, you know what?
I don't even know anymore.
It was Friday night, Friday morning to Saturday night
because then I slept late on Sunday.
So this would be Friday night, December the 29th.
I'm so turned around right now.
At 10 o'clock central is when we got started on this thing.

She's had her first white Christmas,
her first real snow ever.
And she had a blast for a long time.
Oh yeah, I tried to get her snow angel,
she wouldn't do it, but I mean,
waking up on Christmas morning with six inches of snow
and it's five degrees out and it's warm inside me.
I made her cocoa every morning for breakfast.
Grab her.
I'm gonna have some more petite marshmallows
for my cocoa coffee.
She liked her cocoa.
And rounding out the deus is the newest member of the team.
And a man who's not wearing headphones by choice.
At least that's a work going with Alex.

We've always said this show is full of people

because ever since I was a little baby DJ
when I was in high school,

So we're going to cover the pop culture part of it.
We're going to start with television.
But before we get to television,
we've got to give bowl prediction updates
to the minute as it were.
Right now, we are through 30 bowl games of the 41.
Right now, and usually you can kind of predict a winner
at this point.
Well, it now is my catch up and I'm taking over.
You're in the ballpark at this point.

I was in Billings and I scouted out the Rocky Mountain College.
And I think they have be a perfect place
for the Lewis and Clark bowl from Krugfield
and Billings, Montana at Rocky Mountain College.

I was up there looking to say, they could do a horse's dead.

We have a start date for the sci-fi prequel of Krypton.
Of Krypton, it's going to debut March the 21st.
We were talking about this earlier today off air,
just kind of on a side conversation.
The Don is here.
And she and I were talking about it and I don't know
that I can commit to this yet.
I'm still getting caught up on all my other shows.
Do you really need another show?
That's a fair point.
Are you still watching Gotham or do you give up?
I am still on board with Gotham.
Okay, let me rephrase.
I'm not still on board with Gotham.
I'm still watching Gotham.
I understand the Batman thing, but I give up on it.
It's my Batman bias and it's the mid-season finale

I think the best take I heard on Krypton
was Kevin Smith on his podcast going,
hey, you know what the real interesting thing
about Superman is, you remember his grandparents

At the same time, it was the perfect take.
It was such an interesting universe.
Except this.
So in the same vein of shows that are spinning off
of other shows, Netflix has picked up Sabrina,
the Teenage Witch for two seasons.
Now, before you hang your head and shape.
That's not shape.

this is the interesting part.

there are conflicting rumors of whether or not

Because as you know, my love for Riverdale
on three episodes right now, I'm almost caught up.
But for those of you that haven't watched Riverdale
and you're thinking, well, it's the Archie Comics,
but no, it's cool because it's like the Archie Comics
and a Twin Peaks thing.
It's so amazingly done.
But they're doing kind of the same thing with Sabrina.
They have said, here's what Sabrina,
the Teenage Witch is going to be.
It's going to be very much in the vein
of Rosemary's Baby and the Exorcist.
So they're a really weird director
and they're going dark with it.
But I'm interested.
But Netflix and not the CW is where my question mark comes in.
Because they get that Netflix can allow
for more things to happen.
They don't have to watch language.
They don't have to watch being too dark of a theme.
Whereas the CW.
Have you watched Riverdale?
I know, but Riverdale's pushing it.
So just think how much darker they can go.
I'll be able to see how this works out.
But it's supposed to, they've got it for two seasons.
So there's that.
And if it's on Netflix, I can watch it.
Imagine Game of Thrones on ABC versus HBO.
I don't even have to.
I don't even want to do that.
I don't even know that I'd equate that.
Because as you know, apparently we're not
getting Game of Thrones till 2019 now.
I have seen that.
Really.
Anyway, interesting that we do talk a little bit of sports
on this show, Don wearing his Paloma Lou Jersey over there.

that would have been worthy of prime time Sunday night.
I like the spin they put on it better, though.
It was the so that nobody's going into that game
with no playoff implications.
We're trying to make it as fair as possible
so that everybody plays at the same time.
But I would watch the Bengals and the Browns
if I mean I didn't have to deal with New Year's Rock and E.
Let's just be real for a minute.
Hey, my stealers got the Browns this weekend.
Yeah, but we all know how that's going to turn out.
You're B stealers.
But I understand, I think I'll give it to the NFL,
is that they're doing the division games a lot of them
at the end of the season.
They've been doing that for the last three years,
which is what was happening was the division was already done.
Well, no, teams were sitting their star players
in weeks 15, 16, 17, and so teams that were,
people that were traveling to see their teams
weren't getting the team they wanted to see.
So Gidell's solution to that was
everybody plays in division in week 17, yes.
But you've got certain teams like,
I don't want to mention any names,
but I believe they're initials of the Pittsburgh Steelers
that have the thing locked up anyway.
No, not quite.
We, yeah, we have the division.
Yes, we have a buy, but this week depends
on whether we get the one or two seed.
And yet they're still benching Rathus Burger and Bell
because they're figuring the jets aren't going to do
anything to make it worthwhile.
Man, here's the point.
Yeah, but it is Cleveland.
But, but I do like, I do like the fact
that they're putting a lot of division games
at the end of the last four weeks.
So you're probably going to give three division games
in the last four weeks from each team.
That way, I'm totally okay with that.
Because the divisions are sometimes before that,
they'd have the division games done
and divisions locked up most of the time.
By the way, that was a catch.
But, because we didn't win by enough games.
I think that's it.

they found out that their marriage was never official

And they're basically ignoring the last entire full season.
Because you need John Goodman.

Also, on January 1st, Lucifer returns to Fox show

I've been enjoying Lucifer.
I watched the first, like, four or five episodes
and just like, and the new CW series Valor returns on Monday.
It's a, say, it's a military show.
And returning on January 2nd,
because again, we got bowl games going on too,
which is kind of crazy.
January 2nd, NCIS and NCIS New Orleans
were both returned.
This new Ellen's Game of Games?
Yeah, it's, it's like the Hollywood game show night,
but it's, but you get Ellen DeGeneres.
And it's on steroids,
but it's Ellen DeGeneres with the popular,
or the populace.
One of Chad's favorites, lethal weapon will return.
I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't do it.
My mom will be happy.
And Chicago med is actually one of Chad's favorites,
not lethal weapon, I apologize.
January 3rd, the Goldbergs returns.
I am caught up on the Goldbergs.
And I don't know if you know this, Alex.
They have released a Goldbergs next tape.
Oh, no.
Of all the songs they've been doing on the show.
So all of Big Tasty's original rap song.
It is a bit of an iTunes right now, $8.99 for the whole album.
And that does have the Imagine Dragons theme,
because they do the theme for the Goldbergs.
I don't know if you know that.
What don't they do the theme Goldbergs?
Because they're amazing.
Because they're awesome.
But it doesn't always fit.

that all, every penny of today's going to.
Every penny, everybody that's working on this
were all volunteering because we're raising money
for a cook's children's fort worth
and cancer communities in North Texas.

And trust me, yeah, it's all going there.

Both of my shows were gone within a season.

Tee, only one release on TV, on DVD, and Blue Ray this coming Tuesday.
And it's season one of 10 days in the Valley, which I've heard very mixed things on.
I still want to throw in there, coming on January 2nd, my trash TV, the challenge is back.

The last Jedi now closing in on a billion worldwide.
Oh, yeah.
That's the interesting news.
The strange news,
and we talked about it,
10 I talked about it in this segment
before we came on the air with this show
was even with that box office receipt
of this year as a three year low.
I can believe it.
Which I don't understand
because this was such a strong year for film.
And we talked about this earlier too.
Such great films this year that came out
on a three year low.
But two years ago,
it had been such a gap since the last movie
that I think it brought a lot of people out.
And then last year's movie,
people were kind of like, wait,
I don't get this.
No, no one was amazing.
It was when you went and saw it,
but there were a lot of people that didn't understand
where it fell in the storyline.
That was my favorite headline of last year.
Disney announces there will be no sequel to Rogue One.
I was like, there already is one.
It's called episode four.
There's a few of them already.
It's called episode four.
But I mean, people didn't realize.
Spoiler alert.
It's been a year.
People didn't realize where it fell in.
And so therefore,
they didn't weren't willing to come to this one
because they kind of lost the interest.
But you see outside of Star Wars those
there's been such great movies this year.
You're talking for Ragnarok.
You're talking Guardians of the Galaxy volume two.
I mean, you're talking,
when we do our best and worst stuff next weekend,
which we'll do, but we're back in studio,
we've been talking about this today too,
as I was, you know, whenever we go see a film,
I immediately the next day will go to my list
so I can put it on my list.
So I don't lose and forget where I need to set it.
And we're certain films here.
Well, there are certain films that we saw this year
that I was like, how did that wind up that low?

it's right about where it needs to be
because there's so much great movies.
There's just many movies you can watch.

In other news, Netflix has, and now some of the things
that are coming to the service in January.
I know Don's going to be very excited
because all of the bring it on films.
We'll be able to watch, I'm going to have to sports that.
The entire quadrilogy from 89 to 95
of the Batman films are available to you next month.
So if you didn't want to buy them,
but you still want to listen to the Fat Man
on Batman commentary tracks,
you can just stream them on Netflix.
That's a clever idea.
And the Godfather Trilogy comes to Netflix in January.
But is there the ultimate edition?
No.
The only way you can get that right now legally
is on HBO Go.
That's the only way you can get.
And I still don't know because my father-in-law,
if you follow me on Instagram at yes, that robber of an ERVIN
for those you play in the home game,
my father-in-law got me the new set,
the 45th anniversary set.
I did not know that was a good looking set.
I did not know that was a limited edition of 45,000.

about what wonderful in-laws you have.

One thing my gripe about Netflix, which I have,
and I want to get in this strange things.

But they are not a lot of series,
which are great like Walmart,
but they're not getting a lot of the new movie releases put
in there.
Well, a lot of the deals that they have with the studios
say they can't use them for the first 30 days of release
because they don't have enough.
No, I'm talking about DVDs.
They're stuff that was released a year ago on DVDs.
But that's because of the deals they have with the studios.
That's not them.
They'd have it all if they wanted it.
If they could, but the studios are holding it.
Because you still have HBO showtime,
Cinemax, all the prime ones have deals with these studios.
And until they've had their run and people are paying
to have those channels,
then Netflix can run it.
But their stuff, it's like five years old
that should be on there that they don't have for four years.
But again, that's the deals they have.
The other thing you have to remember is you've got,
you're going to start seeing the splintering
because with Disney announcing they're going to do
their own streaming service and they're pulling
all their stuff with it.
I believe in 2019, maybe as quickly as next year,
you're going to start to seeing this a lot
where it's going to hurt Netflix.
And it's going to hurt Amazon because these,
I think we're going to hit critical mass
and it's going to go right back to where it was.
Because I'm not going to pay this person seven bucks
and this person eight bucks and this person seven bucks
and this person eight bucks.
I'm not going to do it.
I would sooner just go out and buy the Blu-ray
if it's a movie that I really want and be done with it.
That one, they're putting out movies like Bright.
Not to do that.

but I kind of enjoyed it.

There's a this week's criterion collection release.
A little something called the breakfast club.

Why was this not released before Christmas?
Why would you not send this out before Christmas?
Because my birthday's the most January.

Yeah.
For people that know, the criterion collection is what?
The criterion collection was really the first brand back in the days of Laserdisc, where
you got a lot of extra features, stuff like commentary tracks.
I actually still have a couple of criterion collection Laserdiscs in my collection, one
of which being chasing Amy, which I will never get rid of.
But they were really the first brand to really embrace extras, deleted scenes, commentary
tracks, things of that nature.
Basically, the success of the criterion collection almost completely redid how we know of buying
movies now, because it has to have the extras.
It has to have the commentary.
It has a criterion was just, hey, here's a great idea, and that's all the extra well that
it became.
And the crazy thing about the criterion collection, though, for me is it's either amazing movies
or movies you've never heard of that were made in Sweden in 1932.
They really dig deep into the crates for the films they select, and most really kind of
need, but I really like about the criterion collection is in most cases, they actually
will recreate their own versions of the poster art.
For some reason, they did a really good, not the cover art, but the content for silence
of the lambs is really, really good.
One of their commentary tracks is with an actual FBI profiler, the Robocop criterion,
either one of those were ever released on Blu-ray, only DVD.
But both of those were two really, really good ones as well.
I mean, they've done stuff from Hitchcock to Armageddon, have gotten the criteria in
collection treatment.
Days in Confused was a big one that they did.
They've probably done rough estimate over 900 different films, and it's really cool,
but the fact that they're doing the breakfast club, I'm very, very excited about.
Couple the quick tech corner items for this week.
Apple has heard this thing.
I heard.
Apple is in the middle of a class action lawsuit allegedly that may have been settled, that
people are saying that they slowed down older phones to, quote, protect battery life without
owner's permission.
Didn't they miss it?
They have, but they've said now what they're going to do is they're going to give you $29
battery replacements for a year.
How do you open it to get the battery?
They do it.
If you open your iPhone, you buy it with your warranty.
But they have to do it.
They'll do it for $29.
Why don't they just do it for free since they're the ones that, because that's not how
you make money.
Oh, yeah.
They're so poor.
Because I'm thinking my next phone probably won't be an Apple.

And that's what we love about this show.
But I think I can speak for everybody in this room when I say how important it is,
especially in a time of year that's about giving that we all come together and do this
thing right.
You know, we talked about Devon and if you've tuned in in the last 15 hours, you've heard
about what led to this, the journey that he's dealt with, fighting through cancer for
the second time.
And the fact that he could have let this get him down and he said the hell with it, I'm
actually going to pay it forward and I'm going to help benefit other people.
That's why I love that dude.
That's why number one on the list is because it's our bully.
Devon is a guy that he knows how to take it, what can be seen as a negative and turn into
a positive.
And he's doing that again for the next 23 hours ish.

There it is.
I don't even have to do the plugs because I just did the plugs.
Even though I didn't really do the plugs because I did them a week and a half ago, whatever.
That was our show that we did live at Who Need Sleep.
It was a 36 hour telephon.
And you know, you heard me say it and it's absolute truth.
I was up for the entire thing.
I actually did pretty well.
I felt pretty good.
I didn't really hit the wall until I got to the drive through as I was coming home on
that Saturday night.
I did indeed sleep for 15 hours, woke up in time for NFL football.
And it was one of those mornings where I went to roll over to get out of bed and my entire
body went to it.
If you plan on going more than 10 feet, good luck.
But totally worth it.
We had so much fun.
We're going to do it again.
Another day weekend, September 1st and 2nd, same time frame, 8 in the morning on September
the 1st until 8 in the evening on September the 2nd.
And when the replays are available, go out and watch them.
There was so much awesome stuff that was out there from musical performances to panel
discussions.
We had some local celebrities get together and do a version of match game, which was absolutely
hilarious.
Hosted by friend of the show Danny Gallagher, who is also a big part of this.
We had the riff track.
It's not a whole riff track.
It's just a riff on the boy in the bubble, which actually ended up pitching in on.
I hosted a couple of panels in the middle of the night and yes, it did get weird.
We had some great, just great stuff happening the entire time.
We got to hear from local radio personality, Mondo Mike, who has an amazing story about
his fight against cancer.
Evan, very, very, very frank and open about the fight that he's been dealing with.
We raised over $13,000, spoiler alert.
And the money is still coming in.
From some amazing humans that gave of their, whether they gave of their monies, gave
of their time, gave both.
I mean, it was an absolute honor to be a part of this thing and we can't wait to do
it again.
Big ups to everybody at vocal media that's V-O-K-A-L.
Go check them out.
They're doing some amazing work with Fuzzbox and the Zoo and some great podcasts that
they've got going on over there.
Shout out to friend of the show Clay Harrison and the guys, not only at Justice Sack, but

again how fortunate and how lucky we are.
