to say that 2018 for me has been the year of the upgrade.
New laptop, new car of the year, new phone, new board, we're on fire this year.
But I'm not alone joining the co-host chair as he does from time to time as the official
fact checker of this show and a man who until recently he heard upgrade and he thought
it just meant it got better marks in school.
You may know him as fun, don't go but his mama name is Don Ford, I'm going to call
him Don Ford.

This is the guy that helped bring you saw and insidious as he writes in directs upgrade.

You got to think Eric and her best friends.

They let us see movies in advance so we can talk to you guys about them and you can make
the best decisions you can for your entertainment dollar.
Here is what you need to know.
The main character is played by Logan Marshall Greene.
You've seen him in a lot of things here and there.
He plays great trace.
This is a guy that takes place in the not so near not so far not so near future where he's
a guy that he just works on classic cars man.
He's not big into technology.
He doesn't really enjoy technology but he loves working on classic cars.
Now his wife however is very deep into the tech sector and so he goes to deliver a car
to a customer one night and he asks her to go with him and she's like well I guess if
I have to.
They travel out to a guy's house his name is Iran and he's played by Harrison Gilberton
and he starts talking to them about tech and she says you know we've got to say he's
like you don't even know because let me show you something.
So he shows that this chip that he's been working on that he thinks is going to revolutionize
everything and they're like okay whatever.
So they drop off the classic car but then they drive home in her automated car.
Wait I don't think Iran's kind of like a Bill Gates up to day he's well yeah well
wow it's like Bill Gates so the so the automated car freaks out takes them into a really bad
section of town where they are pulled out of the car she is killed and he is paralyzed
from the neck down.
So Iran comes to see him in the hospital and he says hey man not for nothing but I might
be able to help you out here but you can't tell anybody because it's someone's kind
of off the books I'm going to take this chip and I'm going to put it in your spine and
we'll see what it does.
So they do and not only is he able to move around again like he's able to walk almost
immediately but we also find out that the chip kind of has a mind of its own and the
chip convinces him to let him take revenge on the people that have killed his wife and
done this to him.
The chip talks to him and stuff and just like I hear voices in my head all the time same
thing.
I highly doubt you have a chip in place in your spot but no I'm not saying it's not
possible.
I'm just talking about the voices in the head I just don't have the chip.
There's no chip but there's voices.
This is right at an hour and a half long yeah we went to different you guys went to one
screening I went to a different screen the screening that I went to the director was
actually at yeah and had a little Q and I actually got to ask my question it is very
difficult to talk about this film without spoiling things so that's that's as deep as
I want to go because there's a lot going on here.
If you know anything about Bloom House these are the people that brought you like happy
death day if they had a hand and get out so they have a very interesting business model
and and and Mr. one I'll talk about this in the Q&A basically here's a deal they're
like we'll fund your movie but we're only giving you five million bucks.
I'm not spending the dime more than that so he made this movie on less than five million
dollars yeah I could kind of tell but still it was good for five million dollars yeah he
stretched you could tell you could tell it's a budget it was a big two hundred million
dollar Disney but yeah it reminded me of some of the films I saw in the 80s of the sci-fi
the night of the comet blade runner Robo cop it had that kind of dark gritty well he said
he borrowed elements from that like that was what that was what his inspiration was was
those kind of just straight ag but this also has elements of horror to it elements of
sci-fi elements of social commentary you're talking to guy who's on song all that you know
and it's known that Rob and I do not go for the horror as he says he doesn't want to have
a go to a movie that makes him pee on himself yeah I refuse to subject myself to people
try to make me pee on it I was okay with this yeah oh yeah now there's a couple of parts
in here that there's a little bit of gore yes but not like I didn't look at it and go yeah
that was unnecessary or brutal it was real like a lot of violence just a lot of violence not a
lot of violence in it because that's part of the deal but everything in this movie works for me
oh yeah well like the cast Gabriel Betty Gabriel she wasn't get out which they have that lineage
two and all that other stuff so I mean she's the police detective that's research in the case
on the of the shooting of his wife I think she does a very bad yeah everybody's really really good
in this but it's really graze story and this plays out very kind of graphic novel in a sense
which I really really dug about it because mr. one out does that well he tells the story
that it takes some twists and turns which is kind of neat it's very black mirrorish
in its nature where you kind of go all that's a thing but it's just I mean there's no other way

good good good okay it might be a mix of walk with Tom Hardy and X machina oh lock and
X machina yeah okay those tell you to walk I'm like what what the line no it's like a driving
and it's kind of dark feel the next my very film ory and then the robotics of that it's like you
put those two together well and and Lee when I said that part of the deal was that he had to work
with the with the stunt crew because he wanted the fighting to be you know because it he had to see
it's like you have to say basically he is a robot so it has to it can't be as fluid as it would
have been otherwise and he's a good at acting yeah and they had yeah and you could tell like you
could really tell when stem which is the name of the chip took over and I mean I Logan Reed is
in a Marshall Green does an amazing job here look Marshall Green yeah he does I only had one thing
I didn't care for okay there was some character development where it was so cliche
like there's a situation where gray goes to find someone to help him with some coding situations
mm-hmm and it was just so cliche what was there yeah and there's a couple of places where it's
just so cliche that it's like if you could have just untweaked it a little but I I dug that about
it though like it again it harkened back to those 80s where it's like I know this is fixed
and it happened but I'm so glad you're talking like the dive bar no no she's talking after that okay
yeah all right when she has to go see somebody yeah uh or he has to go see somebody but I just I
loved everything about this because it was everything that I remember about movies of its
Ilkman I was a kid oh yeah and it's done beautifully it's shot great there's just the right
amount is a little bit of humor here and there there were multiple times where I just went oh now
there's there's if I have one complaint uh-huh the last 10 minutes I give you more the free
it got confusing I'm going I have a question here I will say this the last 10 or 15 minutes of
the film you have to focus and I was really I was fine with what was going on that's kind of
I got but no I was completely focused me and so I was able to like they're like I said it takes
a couple of twists and turns where you get a little bit disoriented but you just stay with it
and stay focused and it comes back but some people they may not be able to name won't be hey watch
if you if you don't focus in the last 10 minutes of a movie you've got to go I know but you got
just a little too much for me if I said that how much it's your it's your it's your opinion yeah
that's fair and we respect your opinion yeah I just I really dug this and I went with another
female friend of mine and of course when some of the gore came up we're looking at each other I'm
like are you sorry I didn't warn you about that and she's like that's okay it's great I'm enjoying
this it really is a lot of fun do be aware yeah do be aware that there is that in there if that's
what's right it are for a reason well yeah if if if gore bothers you don't go see it if gore
doesn't bother you oh yeah go see it well if gore bothers you find somebody who's seen it so they
can tell you when to look away because there's not much of it there's maybe two or three scenes
at the most oh yeah and it's kind of obvious where when and where it's going to happen and you'll
and you'll see it coming so there's there's not like jump scares or anything like that it's just
you know it's violent and with violence tends to come gore especially when you've got a film
like this yeah I still like to just out one bit yeah I'm that I really did like it it's so much fun
it's one of those films that I think it's gonna have to take kind of a ground swell of people
because you know I've seen a lot of I'm gonna say a lot but I've seen enough marketing out there
for it that you know I've been telling people I know like you know come June 1st go see this movie
I can't wait to tell you why but just because you know we were under orders but our reviews
are out there now as soon as you hear that you can go read our reviews too because this film is
better than it has to be oh yeah and I was gonna say get on Logan Marshall green spaces yeah I'm
just I was so happy that they did a second screening because I couldn't attend the one you guys
were at and allied was like oh yeah we're gonna do another one we got you don't swear that's like
so weird cool and I just I really really really really really enjoyed this film I didn't have any
downsides anything else forget the final analysis yep let's do it the way we do the final analysis
on this show we're not gonna give you thumbs up thumbs down letter grades numbers you know memory
chips nothing like that we're gonna ask up to two questions question number one is would we see
this film again if the answers know them are done here but if the answers yes then the follow
question is how far are we willing to go to do so from the best of the best of the worst of the
best here's how it works full price it a theater down to a twilight show down to a matinee down to
early morning on the weekend down to second one of the dollar theater down to actually leaving your
house to get it from red box down to streaming on Netflix down to cable general would you see
upgrade again yes how far you willing to go I would see it at a matinee okay and I will pre-order it
on Amazon when it becomes available to own all right down would you see it again yeah how far you
want to go I'm doing the same thing afternoon or Saturday afternoon showing you the theaters I
still liked it anything is a little confusing but still I didn't enjoy it I would see it again
I'm gonna go one step up I'm gonna say twilight showing hit that late afternoon go have dinner
afterwards it's just a really really good movie and I want people I want it to make a bajillion
dollars because it's so much fun and I want to see more movies like it yeah all right thanks again
