enjoys both of those things he is Chad welcome sir we can't recall the last Soderberg
film I saw all the way to be surprised I want to look that up next to him is the official
fact checker of this show and a man whose membrane is insane you may know him as fondongo
but his mom and him don't want to call him don't for to welcome sir true story the city
of Albuquerque in New Mexico officially says I am insane just Albuquerque
hey we got to start somewhere fair enough got to have goals I have mental problems according
to them rounding out the days is the lady of the house in someone who's going to be
very curious in this one she is general welcome friend hello everyone whenever we do one
of these things it is to review something this is no difference as I said Steven Soderberg
horror film it's called unsane for us at this whole thing yeah sir we got to thank
Julie nearby it's life box they do such great work for us we're so happy to have them as
a vendor they let us see movies a little early so we can tell you about them and you can
spend your entertainment dollar wisely so here's what you need to know I've seen the trailer
for this thing out because you guys know I have a policy I live by a code I will not see
movies and pay somebody to try to make me pee on myself it's not going to happen but this
is about to love roller coasters don't figure that's different people grabbing you and jumping
out at you and screaming in the bloody murder and I like roller coasters you can actually
die I like roller coasters I don't like horror films and I don't do gore you know that
this would surprise you then so we'll get into clear clear foie play Sawyer Valentini is she
the is she the main character yeah she's from the crown so here's the latest thing yeah a young
woman is voluntarily committed to a mental institution where she is confronted by her greatest
fear but is it real or a product of her delusion now she has a stalker that she thinks is driving
her to the brain and so she appears to check herself into a facility that can help her with such
things all right if you go if you got my go to my review of www that's cobaasplacast.com that's
our website I put on there in the plot she is a person who has a personality and friendliness
of a pet rock okay wow so relationships are tough but then you find out because of the
stalker thing and she moved 450 miles away from Boston where her family's at to try to get away
from this guy because that sometimes that does help in stalker situations yes getting way out of
the town so she looks up for you know I have trouble dating you know I'm very good at my job she
has that mind where she works at a bank or she does stuff numbers perfectly but her personal
skills on the phone are not that great so she goes into look for support groups of stalkers like
there are support groups right I know yeah absolutely absolutely so she goes to this institution
says I want to find out about these things about joining the support group and talks to
counselor counselor says sign these forms here she signs those forms there next thing you know
she's being committed because she signed a form saying I'm gonna commit myself not knowing it
so then it says you will be there for 24 hours well she calls a cop to cops don't kind of listen
they could go the front desk when they go here's the form saying she's committing herself
and they have a right to keep her for 24 hours but now there's this little thing where they go
well if we think you're a risk we could keep you for another seven and they kind of find out
maybe it's that insurance scam where if they have insurance we're gonna find a reason to keep them
so they can keep the big money coming in then and I don't give too much away it comes to the point
of she thinks she sees the her stalker they show that the trailer she thinks that she sees her
stalker while she's in the institution and then it comes to it you might think it's that movie of
is she really seeing the stalker or is she insane is she really you know five cans short of a six pack
and belong in there or she being actually being in real life and there's nothing wrong with her mentally
right at that point you think that what's the movie's gonna be about the about halfway through it
takes a big turn being farther free that it goes in a totally different direction it's all I
want to say now did you know the budget on this was one point two million dollars you want to know why
I do know why was entirely shot on an iPhone camera and I could see on that I I did notice that
it was an iPhone camera the whole time but it it was kind of that gritty independent kind of film
look so I could see where it was from iPhone and that being an iPhone I have to give it to him not
knowing that because it being filmed on an iPhone the quality was very good for being an iPhone
and you didn't see that constant moving it's like me trying to film your glass grasty show and try to
keep the phone still never happened okay they were actually somehow able to keep that phone still
and not move it in the hand or whatever because there were some good shots I thought I was done with
like real film like real big cameras or like normal cameras used to film these style of movies like
it surprises me so I got to give him that I just got my mind blown what's it what's that I saw
because I've got this pulled up on IMDB this carrot this David Stryne character yeah is played by
Joshua Leonard does that name mean anything anybody in the room I know he's in it and the name
sounds familiar but I can't place it that's Josh from the Blair Witch project oh there you go
and he does good in the acting he really does I got to give him on that I give a shot out on that
but what really surprised me is when that the film took that turn and goes in a totally different
direction I really liked what it did and there was some comfortable moments in that because
you're kind of thinking what if that happened to me you know if you're looking down the road
of maybe she's not insane and she's not kuku that what if this is to happen to me where I'm
going to be committed somewhere and they're keeping me there under these legal premises to try
to get the money from the insurance companies I mean how would you feel and there's some points where
the film does such a good job or I'm thinking I'm actually stuck in there with her
so you so yeah you had that closed-in feeling of it yeah as it's okay fair enough yeah
uh anything that that hits your sideways on this thing because this runs about an hour 37
good good good film good timing though it's paste right it didn't seem too long at all
there is some suspension of discipline disbelief in this isn't any film but this one there was
one that really stuck out with me because they're in the mental institution and at night they're
sleeping in their individual beds but they had all the patients in one room men and women in the
same room at night with not one guard in there what's interesting yeah who's gonna allow that where
they could have men and women in the same room unattended at night all night you know what I'm saying
so there was that kind of suspension discipline but did did that work as a plot device though
it kind of there was a couple scenes where no I don't think it was she does be friend I got
to admit that during the film she starts to build a friendship with the character named Nate
is paid by Jay Farrow okay you see her talk with him at night and you understand some of the
actions that happen with her trying to basically use a cell phone because he's not a cell phone in
but they could it she used it in the yard too so that's but she did talk with him and see the
cell phone at night but still that would be best that they can work around it so I can see them
having them be in the same thing same place out you know it's being in the same room at night
no places look no facilities gonna allow men and women to sleep all together okay so it was just
kind of there because it was there yeah okay I can say that then so that'd be one of the
big suspension of disbelief but beyond that it was kind of I liked how it made that turn
it went to a toy different film but there it is brutal I got my there are a lot of violence you
could say violence but there are adult scenes okay and there are some pretty adult scenes I
wouldn't see there's any nudity in this but the references that they make um someone's like oh
why did she do that did they have to but it was you got to think they aren't a mental institution
there are some violence in this you see some violence in this okay but I did really like to
plot turn because at one moment you realize whoa okay not now that I see what's really going on
here so I was really pleasantly surprised at how much I liked it a couple scenes where the fantastic
faith forward did kind of a jump and stuff like that because there are some scenes that make you
you know because they do get gritty they do do do deal with violence and people with mental illness
is the best way to be in spoiler free so be warned it's not for the kids on this one all right
anything else where we get to the final analysis that's it anybody has any questions for Don
before we get to the final analysis oh thank for take we're clear all right the way we do the
final analysis on this show we're not going to give you thumbs up thumbs down and by the way this
was directed by Steven Soderberg so be prepared for that I mean the guys got skins on the
traffic and I've said traffic uh out of sight anybody we're not going to give you thumbs up
thumbs down letter grades numbers anything like that we're going to ask Don up to two questions
question number one is what do you see this film again if the answers know that we're done here
if the answer is yes then it's going to be how far is he going to go to see this film from the
best of the best of the worst of the best here we go full price at the theater twilight showing
it to theater matinee at the theater early morning on the weekend at the theater second run theater
for the dollar thing maybe you leave your house and go get it from red box or you're streaming on
Netflix or you're watching on cable Don would you see unsaying again yes I would how far you
want to go to do so my borrowers low but I was surprised okay twilight oh so you're right there
on the edge okay not quite because of that suspension and stuff and a few other things but still
I was really surprised and I really liked it but it is brutal there are some gritty kind of things where
you can go and chat the Amy Irving is in this too God haven't seen her anything and actually believe
it or not there's about 10 minutes of Matt Damon in it too me Jamie yeah he's Jay Farrow from
messing out and see that kind of shot this good in this he plays one of the you could say like
if he if he wasn't being nominated for award he get best supporting out you know temples in this
so is this is his first dramatic turn isn't it because he's only really done comedy oh he's
just good in this I have to look for that acting was good I mean and I gotta give it real fast to
to foie she could play like the mental like issue person very well she did great in the acting all right
Stephen Soderbergh it is unsane for me this whole thing yes everything we got to
