One of these things as we march towards a hundred.
But I'm not alone for this particular episode.
Joining me across the desk is he tends to do each and every week
when we do our shows is a man who has a lot of unfinished
business in this life.
He is Chad, welcome sir, welcome to you sir.
And I feel welcome, although, like, hope so
because we're here in our house.
Okay, fair enough.
Back also joining us for this particular episode
is the official fact checker of this show.
And a man who just didn't want to brave the elements.
But we don't think any less of them for that.
You may know him as fun, don't go, but his mom and even
don't for him and I call him, don't for it, hello sir.
It reminded me too much of a home in Montana.
I would like to see money with the weather here from.
That's this is some smell in here all of a sudden.
Is this me?
And I just don't stay in Montana.
I moved to get away from that.
I would have thought this was just child's play to you.
It wasn't me.
I'm worried about the other guys out there.
That's yet point taken.
Whatever we do at iTunes, this is what you say.
Whoa, now you're awake.
Dear God.
It is a review something in this particular episode
is no difference.
I would say we are going to review the movie on this episode,
but I'm going to review him.
You talk well, listen, you throw it and we'll see what sticks.
Director Ken Scott, most recently,
responsible for delivery man,
teams up with Vince Vaughn again,
and there is latest opus called unfinished business
with Tom Wilkinson, Dave Franco, James Marsden,
Nick Frost,
Sienna Miller, and so many more stars.
In a film about a guy, played by Vince Vaughn,
whose name is Dan Trunkman.
Sounds like a weather with Dan Trunkman.
You know, he's a guy that works in a company,
he's a sales guy.
And he finds out that his commissions being cut by his boss,
named Chuck Portnoy, played by Sienna Miller,
let that sink in from a gay.
And he decides, instead of taking a pay cut,
he's going to go start his own company.
So as he's walking out, he runs into a guy,
played by Tom Wilkinson,
played named Timothy McWinters,
who has been laid off
for because there's apparently an age cap
at the company now too.
Here we go.
He also runs into a young man.
I'm just going to say his name is Mike,
because I don't want to say his last name
because that's kind of a plot point at one point,
and I kind of wanted to surprise you.
If you want to know, go look it up on IMDB.
But they, the three of them,
they're going to start their own company together.
Well, a year goes by, not doing well.
But Dan gets a phone call from a prospective client,
says all they need to do is just shake hands
and the deal is done.
So they're going to, they're in St. Louis,
so they're going to take a day trip
to Portland, Maine to close the deal.
They get to the hotel only to discover
that his former company and former boss
are all of a sudden in the mix as well.
So it's not just a simple as a handshake deal,
or they end up having to go to Europe
to try to track down the big boss
to get him to sign off as well.
We will start with the direction of the film.
Now, do either of you gentlemen have an interest
in this film before we get into this?
Yes.
Yeah, I do too.
But for again, we got to think our best buddies,
Josh and everybody at Allied for letting you see this thing.
Excellent.
Well done, sir.
That's not going to keep you, John.
Exactly.
We love Allied in the very moment.
Yeah.
There are some of our favorite people in the world.
They've always taken care of us.
So how would you say first off the look of the film?
It's nothing spectacular.
It's, I will say this off the bat.
It's rated R for many, many reasons.
So don't take the kids, do not.
OK, don't take the kids anywhere within a block of it.
OK.
If you see him moving with Vince Bond and he's
got a beer in his hand, keep the under 12 crowd out of it.
And plus the fact when one of the teaser
won sheets instead of his head, it's a bang.
You hear what I'm saying?
Yeah.
I, there was nothing about the look of the film
that really stood out to me.
It's just your average rated R comedy more than anything.
I thought that the story was fun.
It wasn't.
I wouldn't say that it was completely predictable,
but it was predictable enough if that makes sense.
I mean, you kind of know how it's going to end.
But in a film like this, it's
more the journey than it is, the destination.
There is, of course, Mad Cap shenanigans
throughout all the way through the hour and a half
running time of it.
I thought it was paste really well.
There was never a timer.
I was like, OK, can we move this thing along?
Like, it moved nicely.
How many times did you look at your watch?
Couple three.
OK.
But that was just more of because we knew some bad storms
were kind of getting.
And I was trying to gauge.
Yeah.
You know what I mean?
Exactly.
But Vince Bond also has a wife and a son and a daughter.
And the weird thing, and I talked to friend of the show Scott
who was there, he also worse to Allied.
And after the show, Andrew Beckham came with me.
And we were talking to him.
And he said, the weird thing,
the weird thing about this film is that it has a bit of an identity
crisis.
It doesn't, it's, you've got this right at our comedic
romp thing going on.
But then there's this heartwarming story in the middle of it.
That sounds oddly familiar.
It's, it's just one of those things where you're just like,
sounds very Zach and Mary ish.
I could see where you could make that parallel.
That's the last time I remember hearing that companion.
But, particular analysis.
So is Zach and Mary on a certain level?
You expected it.
Because it was expected.
It was about these two people, right?
Where has with this?
You think it's just kind of one of these,
hey, we're gonna go get sales and have crazy times.
And then there's this him being a dad thing
and trying to help his daughter what she calls her daddy homework
where he has to explain to her class who he is.
And so a lot of the narration of the film
and some saying, your daddy is.
And him kind of telling the story with the narration.
And how he deals with his son who's getting picked
on a lot of school.
And they want to put him in private school,
but he knows they can't afford it unless they land this deal.
And the more I thought about it,
the more I was like, you know what Scott was right.
It really is kind of an identity crisis here.
Because the people that are going to see it
for what they see in the trailer aren't going for that part of it.
You know what I mean?
What's a predictable?
I'll, a certain level.
Okay.
As I said, it's just a second ago.
There's a certain level of predictability to it.
I mean, really bad.
No, it wasn't like there wasn't a lot of work in each
market, or where there was more.
Okay, I see what's gonna happen here.
There's a couple of moments where you think you know
where they're going, and then you see where they go,
and you're like, okay, that's kind of funny.
So how would you rate the direction then?
Directing I thought was fine.
I mean, it was nothing stellar.
Yeah.
Don't expect any Oscar nods out of the thing.
Exactly.
You know, but you're not gonna get Razzy nods either.
In my opinion.
Oh, yeah.
It's not my least favorite film of the year so far.
We're not naming that.
Yeah, we can't right now.
But from a performance standpoint,
it's what you expect.
Okay, what about the acting?
That's what the performance says.
Yeah.
Vince Vaughn is Vince Vaughn.
I've always said he will play me in the story of my life.
Wilkinson was the most fun.
That sounds like a departure for me because you see
a side of Tom Wilkinson that you've never seen before.
I didn't know that side was there.
When I saw him in the trailer,
I'm like, this guy in this kind of movie.
I will say this, they missed a prime opportunity
for comedy in this film.
And this isn't really a spoiler,
but at one point they're all out partying
and Wilkinson ends up taking what we think is eat.
And I was waiting for him to grab somebody and go,
I am Shiva, the god of death.
And it didn't happen.
Why would you, in my missing something?
Michael Clayton.
I never saw it.
With Clooney.
Oh, see.
He's going insane at one point.
He grabbed Clooney and he says,
I am Shiva.
Oh, okay.
I never saw that.
Oh, I had no idea what you're talking about.
I was like, do this and you've got me.
A day Franco, or I was like,
call him Franco's a lesser known.
This kid's making a niche for himself.
I mean, your brother is already who he is,
being James Franco.
Him and neighbors, and I've only seen clips.
It's a cable premiere coming up, so I'm gonna watch it.
People are lauding his performance in that film.
He's kind of the bumbling idiot, kid in this,
but like Andrew said it kind of war on him
by about by the time the third act hit,
I loved his performance.
I thought he, of course you know a lot of
where he's gonna go with it,
but just to see him actually do some of the things
that he does in this film.
Very funny.
Would it be, would it be your secret standout?
I, this is not the kind of movie
that I would even look for a standout performance in.
This is the kind of movie that, you know,
it was perfect for me when I saw it
because we'd been through some pretty intense,
yeah, things that we've seen this week,
and I needed that palette cleanser.
You didn't make it that makes sense.
It just, what your favorite be Franco,
would that be the best?
It's either gonna be Franco or Nick Frost
because you put Nick Frost in just about it.
Oh, I'm a fan, I love me, some Nick Frost.
Right now, friend of the show, Jim Bragel and I are on a campaign
that he needs to play mud in the next Star Trek film.
Mud, yeah, from Mud's women.
You remember that episode?
Kind of an intergalactic pimple.
He was kind of a big guy.
Well, well, gee, I wonder why.
I'm just saying, I'm just saying.
Couldn't have anything to do with the fact
that his buddy isn't that franchise.
Well, I'm just, not only that, but
I, what I heard Mud, I went Nick Frost.
I just, it wasn't because of something,
we just because that was the first thing that came to mind.
I would think he would be a fan of his two since he played.
That's who played his favorite role in the game.
Yeah.
Really?
Yeah.
Nick Frost played, played, done in game games.
Okay.
You know, Mars, then,
and here's my other issue with it.
Was CNN Miller.
Like, when you first meet her in the film,
you think she's gonna be the antagonist to Vince Vaughan.
But after the opening scene, her role
was fairly minimal where it ends up being Mars,
then, who plays the antagonist more, which was kind of weird
for me, because I was really looking forward
to more of a battle of what's between him and CNN Miller's
character than I what's between him and James Mars, then.
But they bridge it nicely.
So we're all, you know, kind of like a bond switch.
Has he kind of really played a heavy?
He kind of played a D-bag in a movie called Sex Drive.
And I saw that, I don't remember him.
Remember, he was the older brother that owned the car.
You may not be thinking with the same film.
But the kid who takes his brother's car
to meet up with the girl, he met on the internet.
Yeah, I washington with you over here.
He's the older brother.
Okay, it's been a long time.
Because if you watch the quote unquote uncentred version,
which is just a bunch of extra bloopers,
he actually before he answers the door and the hotel he goes,
cyclops.
Speaking of frost, when we saw Sean of the dead and a first showed him,
everybody looked at me and go, there's Don.
See, that's just not even right.
That's not even cool, man.
But after the film, I got different frosts.
I like that.
But overall, it was enjoyable.
You know, I can't, I can't say I didn't enjoy the film,
but I can't say,
that I'd rush out to it.
You know, which brings us to the final analysis.
And the way we do the final analysis on the shows,
we don't give you numbers or letters or thumbs up thumbs down
or stars because our audience,
the empire is better than that.
Question number one out of two is what I see this film again.
I guess, so would you see this film again?
I guess.
Now, what, what level would you see it?
Would you see it at full price at the theaters?
Twilight, Matt, Nay, Dollar Theater, Red Box, HBO.
I would recommend this film as a red box rental.
Okay.
You got a bunch of guys that are hanging out together one night.
You want to, you want to have a move, you want to watch a movie,
but you don't want anything that's going to be real heavy or real.
Something in the man cave to watch.
Something to hang out with the guys and laugh and laugh.
It's, you know, stupid humor and you call it good,
Matt, Matt, Matt.
A good, a good, already comedy.
A man cave film.
It's, it's one of those, you know.
I'm just waiting for Vince Vaughn to do that film.
That's going to launch him back into the upper atmosphere.
This wasn't it.
No, this wasn't it.
I mean, it was good, but it wasn't great.
It wasn't like the breakup.
I love the breakup.
You know, it wasn't swingers.
You know, I need him to get back into that mode again.
Okay.
That being said, we got to think,
or buddy, is it that way?
Josh, everybody is so good.
Yes.
And we love that.
