Well, I am not alone for this particular episode.
Joining me across the desk as he tends to do is a man who could be mistaken for an early 1800s for a trader with the amount of hair on his head and face.
He is Chad, welcome sir.
I've got nothing on our friend, the King of Bowling.
That is a fair point.
Actually, he is a fair fair.
He might make a fair comparison to another character that we're going to be referring to shortly, so.

You may know him as fond Don Go, but his mom and even Don Ford,
I'm going to call him Don Ford, welcome sir.

Whatever we do, one of these hit is normally to review something and this particular episode is.
No different, but kind of different.
Because only 33.33 repeating bar percent of this studio has seen the film more about to talk about.
And that 33 and the third is Don.
We are here to talk about the revenant.
The latest film from Birdman director,
Alejandro Gonzalez, you know, Rotto.
You killed my father prepared to tell us.

We announced a caprio Tom Hardy, Dommal, Gleason, Paul Anderson.
Basically, here's what you need to know.
Oh, Lucas, how's this in this?

It's a name you haven't heard in many, many moons.

Takes place in the 1820s.
Based on the true story of Hugh Glass, he is a fur trader.
It is winter because remember winter is coming.
And through a set of circumstances, he is left for dead by a rivalish type person.
And after being attacked by a bear,
and he decides he wants revenge.

Kind of.
Before we begin on the whole thing.
Yes, sir.

But so I want to see in a nutshell that he was attacked by the bear.
They basically leave him for dead.
That's the best way to put it in that shell.

So, Don, we're going to just kind of ask you questions.
Because Chad and I are both very interested in this film.
But we haven't had a chance to see it.
You got to go to the screening.
Let us begin because a lot of people are saying a lot of things about this film.
I want to start visually here because I've seen the trailer.
And this thing, like, I need a jacket while I'm watching it.
It looks so cold.
Okay.
What are I begin on this?
This, you know, my roots of Montana is just there over Christmas.
It never got above freezing was up there.
And let me just say this.
If Montana is anything like I've seen in the trailer for this film.
Part of it was filmed in Montana.
Mark that off my winter tours of destinations.
Yeah.
I mean, because when you're wearing belts, and you still look like you're freezing,
that's a problem.
And basically, it takes place in the mountains of Missouri,
but it's right in Alberta in Montana, which is basically,
which you said in your written review.

Okay.
When I was up there, like Christmas day, I got up to 19.
So I know the brutal way.
Yeah, it got up to 19.
Yeah.
It never got above freezing when I was up there for this five days.
Now, Montana, beautiful.
That's why this film was filmed there.
Your film legends, the fall was filmed up there.
There are so many films because of the beauty of it.
This film, which I put in my review, like I said,
is it was one of the best films in years
to show nature at its most fun.
And you are a stickler, especially on films
that are outdoorsy films.
And you've talked a lot about that not only in our iTunes exclusive,
but also in your written reviews.
Yes.
This is a big thing for you being a guy from an environment
as such and for you to give it that kind of praises a big deal.
Yeah.
So it was so real life.
I mean, every mind of me of this stuff I've seen
that home part of was filmed back home plus a Canada.
But that's the way it was back then when they were out in these mountains
and stuff like that.
There were times where
Mother Nature is beautiful, but it has that evil side.
You have to respect Mother Nature, I believe.
Always.
This shows how Mother Nature could be at her worst.
And there are so many scenes where they're outside
and the wind and snow is blowing and I'm just like,
I was cringing.
Because I've been there and done that.
I've seen that.
So it had a real good genuine feel for what it was doing.
Yes.
Yes.
This early 1800s.
Yeah.
Very frontier scene.
Yeah.
But I've been in those types of environments with the weather being that horrible.
I've lived it.
And this showed it to VT.
So I'm working from the cinematography into the direction.
You know, interrupts you.
This is a guy that's the hot guy right now because he directed birdman
that one almost every award on the planet last year.
Is this the being the follow-up to that?
Does it live up to the hype better?
Because I even read stuff and what they went through to get these shots.
They went to extreme places where you have to hike in for an hour or something
to get through these locations.
Because there's no more vehicles allowed in these locations.
And you can't even bring them in.
And people actually quit because the weather got up to like 10 degrees
and since I've had enough.
And I've also I've also read that much like some like not exactly like birdman.
Yeah.
But there were a number of single single take shots.
Yes.
That was my next question was whether those unbroken scenes transitions.
And let's just get this out of the way.
Yes, there were rumors out there on the internet.
No, they're not true.
Moving on.
Because I got so sick of reading.
Yes.
So you felt that this was from a directorial standpoint.
At least better than Birdman.
So we're like wow.
Very nice.
Very nice.
And I will I.
I cannot say enough on how brutal this film is.
And it is extremely brutal.
I'm going to say brutal.
A lot of violence.
I'm also also be aware that this is a two hour and thirty six minute film.
Yeah.
It doesn't seem like two hours and thirty six in my opinion.
I thought okay.
What you knew was on.
But it followed well.
There was no real trig points for me on this.
I don't know how they did with the plot.
But on the brutality.
Okay.
You know how I hate when people talk during springs.
Absolutely.
As most of us too.
Yeah.
And I mean, I'm going to give you a quote in the ginger ninja who is my plus one last night.
Can you tell Bowling Andrew Beckham.
This is my quote about two or three times last night.
Okay.
No, no.
Oh god.
No, no.
So it affected you on that level where like it was so brutal.
Wow.
Real life brutality.
Okay.
Everybody knows about the bear attack.
I'm just getting out of the way.
Fair enough.
That showed a bear attack.
Because in Montana, the state bear is the grizzly bear is the state bear of Montana.
And I've seen footage.
I've seen stuff of what happens on these attacks growing up there.
This showed a bear attack to a T on what happens.
And it was very.
And there's other scenes beyond that.
It's just like I felt like the Leonardo's character is like he's getting so beat up.
When does it just end?
Just like in passion of the Christ.
Which you also put in your reaction.
It's that brutal.
But done well.
I respect that they put that in.
There are some people get a question that they have to do it.
I think they showed it so real life to a team.
They did not sugarcoat anything.
This was so real life on what happens in these kind of situations.
This is tough.
But this is mother nature hitting you, killing you, kicking you in.
Well, and what the feeling I'm getting from what you're saying too is yes.
There's a lot of violence.
Yes, it is graphic.
But it.
It's where life doesn't take away from this.
It's not there for the sake of being there.
It still helps tell the story.
It helps tell the story.
No, and one thing after one the empire.
There's even the sexual assault scene in this film.
Okay.
So I'm making that a word to the empire.
Fair enough.
Yeah.
So let's then take that into performance.
Because this is the thing that everybody's talking about when it comes to the revenue.
Is this the year?
Leonardo DiCaprio, who I remember as the young homeless kid on growing pains, does stupid
boat movie, does the wolf of Wall Street, does the great Gatsby, the departed, the departed, all
of these roles.
How does that, before we start talking about Oscar or Golden Globe possibilities?
How does this portrayal compare to those?
Okay.
It's kind of a weird situation because this is so different than I'm king of the world.
Right.
Right.
Okay.
Because of the character.

This was his best performance.
I thought in my opinion that he's ever done.
Wow.
Okay.
And we've had a lot of that lately with people like Will Smith.
Yeah.
We've talked about people like Samuel Well Jackson.
Yeah.
This is a big year for lead actors.
And the field is going to be really, really stupid.
The field is going to be thick.
It's going to be hard to navigate.
Steve Krill on the big short.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Which I have not seen yet.
Yeah.
I'm dying to see.
Beautiful movie.
But let me ask you this.
Now that we're talking about it.
Is this performance enough to this finally being the year he takes home the Oscar?
Is it worthy of it?
Yes.
Yes.
I said will it.
Here's the thing.
The academy is so weird and so foolfully.
Sometimes.
Yes.
And that's the thing.
You can never guess a academy.
If I had to, I want to see who's going to be in those nominees and which roles, but I think
it's going to be Will Smith, Steve Krill.
Jackson, stuff like that.
But I'm putting the spot on you right now.
Yeah.
I'm saying this is the year.
Will this be the year?
Yes.
This is the year.
Yeah.
And I didn't even get him.
I reviewed that Leonardo deserves the Oscar.
If you could pick it yourself, you would hand it to him.
It was a vote.
If I was in the member of the academy and voted.
And I also want to put this in a proper framework.
We've seen over 70 films in 2000.
Yeah.
And this counts in 2015 because it did get eliminated at least before the end of the year.
Better than.
I mean, his great as Smith wasn't concussion and Jackson was in the April 8.
Leonardo hits it out of the park on this thing.
But Barren, you're having this conversation in this same breath that we also would probably
have to include Ruffalo's performance in this.
It's quite good.
I think he'll probably get some examples.
He's up for Lee that.

The first name listed in the warehouse.
And also want to talk about one of my favorite actors of our time.
Who's in this.
The Great Tom Hardy.
Yes.
That's a word.
An amand.
An odd.
Arm.
He has that.
He has that.
He does.
He does have a woodman accent that works throughout the film that, you know,
you know, pioneer thing. I put he deserve, I don't know if he deserves it, but I
he deserves a nomination for best supporting actor. Very such a ruthless. And this
is a guy that really is diverse. Yeah, he did legacy this year. He's been a
businessman last year. You know, he's been a busy guy. Now, yeah, he's, it's
perfect. He just plays this ruthless guy that you just, you just hate him. But
you also have a domal glistan who right now is basking in force awakens glory.
But the one I'm interested in and I really want your opinion on Don and Don doesn't
know the questions before I ask. Yeah, we're a polter who plays Bridger. Now for
those of you that don't know that name right off the bat. Chad, do you know what
this is? We'll polter. He was the son, the quote unquote son, and we're the
millers. And also with Jennifer Aniston. Really. Yes. And then we think he
is a water plant. Yes. Yes. That's who he is. The one who gets the
tranchal a bite. Remember what? And very, very funny. He's also in the maze
runner. Yeah, and that's a toy. Here's the thing I'm saying about polter. He's
done so many different kinds of roles in it works. He plays this guy. You just hate
in a maze runner. You play he plays the poor kid in where the millers. And he was
in one of the narnia films too. Yeah, I was he and very good. Because he played
the role. He's he ends up being hearty psychic in this thing. Because what
happens is they leave a polter and hearty's character to watch over, uh,
leading a part of the person. Yeah, the state back until they keep a helping
reinforcements, basically, and then they leave him for dead. And in, in
polter's character demon, no, he, um, Tarty just said, he's dead. We're going.
You know, so he plays this guy who's at a motion of what happens and trying to
get the truth out, really hits to him when he gets back to the camp. Okay. I want to
say this about go back to Leonardo on this one because it deserves it. During half
the scenes that he's in, he doesn't even talk. Yeah, I've heard that there's very
little dialogue for him in this room. And there's a reason why being
spoiler for you that he doesn't talk. Right. But for you, for him to have that
little duck, because I, from our friends, the movie brothers over on YouTube. Uh,
uh, ants, all right, I think it was Kevin actually said, you could take all of his
dialogue and fit it in a couple of pages of a script. For him to have that little
dialogue and for you to hold this performance in that higher regard, that's a heck of
a deal. Well, it's more or less implied in the trailers and stuff that he's just,
he's, he's left on his own. I mean, if he's left for dead, he has to fight his way
back to civilizationalism. But there, there's also an underlying reason why he doesn't
talk. We're sorry for it, but yeah, when his role over half the time he doesn't
talk, incredible that he just hits it out of the park that will without talking.
All right, is there anything else we need to cover before we get to the final analysis,
Chad, did you have any further questions? No, no, I think we've touched on all the
ones or anything else that you want to cover. I just can't, I can't find
really anything wrong with this film. Well, then let's get to the final analysis.
The way we do the final analysis on our show. We don't give you thumbs up thumbs
down. We don't give you rankings, letters, numbers, stars, our audience whom we
affectionately refer to as the empire. They want us to go a little bit deeper.
So we do. I'm going to ask Don to questions. Question number one,
is would you see this film again? If he says no, then we're done here.
But if he says yes, I'm going to ask him how far he's willing to go to see this film.
Would it, is it, will he pay it for full price and first run?
Would he go to a twilight show, Matt and A, early morning on a weekend,
would he wait until the dollar theater in second run?
Would he leave this house to go running it from red box?
Would he stream it on Netflix? Would he wait for it on television? Don,
would you see this film again? Oh, that's a definite. Yes. How far you
willing to go? I'm, I said in my written review that this, the coveted without a doubt.
First review of the year 2016, Don's already got the
answers. Because the realistic, the brutality, this was real life.
And if I would have saw this before we did our urine show, this would have made my top 10.
And you also said that in your written review. Yeah. Now, I did see it.
He said it. Yeah. And now I did see this, you know, this year. So technically,
next at the end of this year with 350 some days from now, it possibly possibly, we have a
long way to go. But yeah, this, this one, without a doubt, but I have to warn you, brutality.
