Whatever we do one of these things, it is to review something and this is no exception.
The brand new film from director of power over years.
Is he?
He hasn't done a lot in this country.
This was his first.
This was his first American film.
He is from Tuscany.
And this is called The Leisure Seeker.
First art is holding.

Ready to sing.

Alight in the green and marketing.
So they care can hold crew for the invite.
I wasn't able to go.
You weren't able to go.
But Jen was able to go.
But things for the invite.
I had every intention of going.
But unforeseen circumstances kept me from this.
I did want to see this because I've seen the trailer.
Of course I do some of that physical therapy.
Some of our favorite people in the world.
They give us the opportunity to see films in advance so we can talk to you about them
and help you spend your entertainment dollar the best way possible.
And a shout out to Allied.
My plus one happened to be my mother this time.
They could not have been more gracious to her.

Yes, Mama Rome was there.
Outstanding.
And they just were really nice to her and I appreciate that.
Alright so you got the Helen Marin.
You got the Donald Sutherland.
And also in this.
And Chad, I don't know if this name means anything to you.
But it does to me and this household.
The great general Maloney is in this.
I mean, probably there's nothing to you.

She was Donna on the West Wing.

Have not heard her name in quite a while.
I guess that I've seen the trailer for this.
It looks great.
But here's what the official imdib description is.
A runaway couple go on an unforgettable journey in the old faithful RV.
They call the leisure secret.
That's where the title of this comes from.
I'm led to believe in the trailer that there might be a specific reason for this trip.
Kind of a finality kind of a thing.
Because father time being undefeated in some of the things that come with aging.
Is what I've interpreted from the trailer.
Am I in the right track there general?
Very much so.
Okay, let's just get into this.
It's based on the novel by Michael Zedurian.
And the screenplay written by Steven Amidon.

It runs right in the neighborhood of just it's just under two hours.
Correct.
Not by much.
I am anxious to hear about this because you're talking about two of the strongest actors.
In my lifetime.

Donald Sutherland.

Helen Mirin.
Like that's two titans of industry.
That's in this.
I don't know how to go with that.
And two people that I could watch read the phone book.
Let's just be honest with it.
Does it live up to the hype?
I thought so, yes.

Their acting is so strong.
You forget that it's Helen Mirin and Donald Sutherland.
And you think you're watching somebody's home movie almost.
Oh.
See, I like it when you can make it work that way because there's a naturalness.
But answer me this.
Did she model a jet ski?

She did not.
Really enjoy.
Because the thing with the Oscar never mind.
Yeah, I knew of what she was.
Oh, yeah, okay, yeah, yeah.

I expect more out of you, sir.

Um, there were.
I'm glad I went with my mom.
This was a good one for her and I to see together.
Because it's.
It gave me a chance to say, oh my gosh, I'm going to be facing some of these things.
And her.
She's not there yet, but you know, could be approaching some of these things.
Um, it is about a married couple and they're very much in love with each other.
No, it's Daniel Maloney.
They're daughter.
Yes.
Okay.
There's a son and a daughter.
And it was also fun in watching this because my mom and I.
The son played by the Christian McKay.
Yes.
Okay.
My mom and I were pointing out different things going, oh, that's your dad.
That's me.
That's you.
That's your sister.
It's.
There's a moment where the son is panicking and the daughter is calmly eating a piece of cake.
And my mom and her like.
Kimber would be panicking and Jen would be probably drinking a cocktail instead of eating a piece of cake.
But yeah, it'd be about like that.
So it's your every family.
It represents the different things we face as our family ages and health changes and mental changes and what they're going through.
How is the balance?
Because this is a very heavy, heavy thing.
How is that balance?
Because it looks like there's some really nice light comedic moments in this too from the trailer that I've seen.
How is that balance?
It's a pretty good balance.

There's some moments where the pacing is slow, but it almost fits because they're at a slow point in their life.
Okay.
So the fact that it's kind of, and if you're really into the movie, you're kind of like.
It's not so bad that you're checking your watch going, okay, hurry up.
You're like, it kind of makes sense.
They're refocusing.
They're recentering.
They're re grounding.
But there's some really good humor in it.
And the trailer, I think if I remember correctly, there's a sequence where somebody tries to cardjack the RFE and that goes horribly wrong for them.
Oh, it does.
It does.
Okay, I thought I'd remember that.
Never mess with a mama bear.
I mean, do we even need to get into the acting here?
I mean, it's just, surely not.
There is a level of expectation when you deal with people like Helen Mirren, Donald Sutherland, General Maloney, that is the bar realistic to be that high for this film.
Yeah.
As I said, you don't even see them as anything else they've ever done.
You see them as these characters, they're actually supposed to be nice.
It's strong enough that you're not going, okay, well, I remember when she was in Caligula, and I remember when he was on mash.
Yes, sir, that's a forgot about that.
I went kind of way back on that.
I remember when she was in red.
Okay, maybe one moment, there's a holding of a gun and you might remember.
But for the most part, you don't, you don't see them as anything else they've ever done.
And it just, and it is a full emotional roller coaster.
Okay.
You will laugh.
You might even cry.
So if you are prone to cry, take some tissues with you.
I will not confirm more tonight.
It's, there is a, there is a very adult conversation, and then there's a very adulty adult moment.
So this is not for all audiences, but it is appropriate to the story.
It fits, it wasn't, it wasn't thrown in because you have to have, right?
It wasn't thrown in because you have to have that in a movie.
It was thrown in because it goes with the flow of the story.
And this is rated R?
Yes.
For, for that reason.
Okay.
So the conversation and then there's some, a scene and it, it fits.
So well paced, well acted, story well told.
Is there anything that you didn't like about the film?
Like I said, there were a couple places where it was kind of slow, but it fit with it.
And I think facing some of the reality.
So I don't, I wouldn't do this late at night.
I'd give yourself some time to process it.
That's fair.
Do you have any questions from you guys as far as this goes?
Not really.
The sound's kind of reminiscent of that film that we saw with Blight Danor and Sam Elliott.

That was at the downstairs National Film Festival a few years ago.
I'm getting so in film.
I'm getting kind of a vibe of that type of film.
You know, maybe not exactly.
Maybe not exactly.
Maybe not a vibe, but I, I don't know if I'd put them in the same ballpark.
I can see them going for the same core audience.
Maybe.
Yeah.
But this is kind of a different ballgame for me.
Whereas that's kind of a woman coming to grips with whether or not she's going to live alone.
This is those, these two people deciding more about living for each other for what's left.
Yeah.
So, I'm very, very interested in this.
I really do want to check this out.
I really bummed that I missed the screening, but again, I've never seen circumstances took me away.
Anything else you want to add, General, before we get to the final analysis?
I think I've carried it.

Do I have to do the final analysis on the show?
We're not going to give you thumbs up, thumbs down.
We're not going to give you letter grades numbers, spare tires, anything like that.

I'm going to ask the general up to two questions.
Question number one is, would she see this film again?
If the answer is no, then we're done here.
But if the answer is yes, then I'm going to ask her how far she's willing to go to see it.
And from the best of the best of the worst of the best, here's the spectrum.
Full price at a theater, twilight showing, matinee showing, early morning on a weekend,
second run at the dollar theater, actually leaving your house to go get it from red box,
streaming it on Netflix, or waiting for it on cable.
General, would you see the leisure seeker again?
Yes.
How far you willing to go to see it?
I would say a matinee because of needing time to process after seeing it.
A little decompress afterwards?
Yes.
Maybe you have a cocktail.
Call someone you're close to that's a little older and in your life that you care about.
Let them know you still care.
