And for the third December in a row, we get to talk Star Wars because it is time to
talk about episode eight, the last Jedi.
But we start this whole thing.

We got to think, Susan, Jenna, everybody, and Susan Jacobs, everybody does need for the

Now, I was able to go because I was in Pittsburgh.

And I was able to do it.
You'll forgive me on that.

So let's talk about it.
Ryan Johnson directs this go round with, I mean, I would say from directing hell, but
JJ was involved.
Yes.
Because JJ Abrams did episode seven.
Here's what you need to know.
Because we pride ourselves on this show on being spoiler free.
Yes.
Absolutely.
Especially on this one.
So what I'm going to do is I'm going to give you my synopsis, which because I thought
it was fairly well written.
I don't pat myself on the back a lot.
But I'm going to give you the synopsis as I wrote it currently located in my written

Here's what you need to know.
With the first order keeping the rebellion on the run, General Hux played by Dommal Gleason
believes that they are ready to lay the final blow on the rebel scum once and for all.
Under the leadership of Supreme Leader Snoke played by the great Andy Circus and Kylo
Ren, also Adam Driver's coming back again, of course.
The rebellion is on its heels led by General Leia Organa, Carrie Fisher, and her unpredictable
pilot, Poe Dameron, Oscar Isaac.
Over a while, Ray, Daisy Ridley, has ventured to a far off planet to try and get Jedi Master
Luke Skywalker, Mark Kamel, if you didn't know that, you know, go figure it out.
To join the fight as the last of the Jedi order and the only one that may be able to turn
the tide for freedom for the entire galaxy, that's what you get.
I'm not going any deeper because you've known me a long time, yeah, a few years.
Episode 1, I was spoiler-rific, right?
Episode 2, I kind of took the stance of, if I run into it fine, I'm not going to seek
it out, but I'm not going to complain if I hit a spoiler, right?
Episode 3, I went completely spoiler-free, yeah, I did my best to avoid spoilers.
I am not crazy spoiler-free, like I'll watch a trailer, right?
But I will avoid spoilers at all costs, and I was the same way with Episode 7 and with
Rogue One.
Episode 8 is a strange animal in that category, because first and foremost, the reason I had
to read my synopsis is this film is a minefield of spoilers.
Why is it ever?
There's a lot going on here, it runs right at two and a half hours.
Which I'll get back to later.
So I really have to be careful with what we talk about.
We really have to speak on a 10,000-foot-level when we talk about this film, because I really
want it for people that are avoiding spoilers first, God bless you.
Secondly, I want you to go into this cold.
If you can go into this cold, please, and the name of all things good and holy, do it.
The less you know, the better off you're going to be.
Because there's so much cool stuff in this movie, that if you're spoiled by anything,
and like, I'm not even going to tell Don off the air.
I want Don to go into this thing cold, and my stance has been, if you ask a question,
I will answer it, but not in a public forum.
Talk to me offline, if you have a question, I will answer it.
But whatever you don't ask, I'm not going to tell you, because I really want you to go
into this completely cold.
Because there's so many, I mean, this is, and I said this to you, the most complete
Star Wars film ever made, ever, in the history of ever, in 40 years of Star Wars, 40 and
a half.
You might want to clarify that.
Yeah, what do you mean complete?
This is a complete story unto itself.
Now there are threads at the end of this film that say, we need to go do this elsewhere.
We've got stuff that we got to pick up.
But this is not a big cliffhanger type film.
This is a complete story from beginning to end.
You could have never seen a Star Wars film, and see the last Jedi, and not feel like you're
lost in the Muckity Muck.
There are elements where you may, but if you have, you can appreciate it deeper.
But you could go in this never, never, not, not barely spelling Star Wars, and be okay.
Which you can't say about most of the films in this franchise.
No.
And most of the television shows in this franchise, not kind of the holiday special, but the
what?
Yeah, exactly.
It is that time here.
Be Arthur.
I'm still trying to, I was so young and impressionable that I still have emotional
scars from watching that, because I watched it when it aired.
Ryan Johnson has a lifetime pass with me right now.
And apparently he also has one with Disney and Lucasfilm.
He's getting his own trilogy, exactly.
That he wrote and directed.
This film has everything.
It has all the fields.
I teared up multiple times, not just because Carrie was on the screen.
Now, there's a certain level of emotion to that knowing this is it for her.
We know.
I've heard her having passed away about a year ago now.
There were moments I laughed out loud when I was supposed to, which I don't know that
we've ever really had that much.
And I don't want to call it comedy, because it's not like, where can he smack it, he do
kind of comedy.
Funny is funny.
It doesn't necessarily have to be slapsed.
It's humor.
I don't know that there's been that much intentional humor, not since Empire, probably, but even
more than Empire.
Well, I'm just just the snappy rapporteur between that hits every beat, you know, and so
vacant from the prequel trilogy.
So you had the lightheartedness, you had visuals for days, the opening battle sequence
alone.
There's all kinds of prettiness on this sucker.
I was emotionally spent when we walked out of this theater.
I teared up multiple.
There were times I'm surprised you don't have a bruise on your left bicep in the number
of times I elbowed you going, dude, dude, dude, dude.
Happening rogue, what had happened again here?

Yeah.
This is, this film, so many reasons don't spoil yourself going into this.
So many reasons that that campaign they're running right now don't let anyone spoil this
is brilliant.
So and let's even talk about that because, and Donna, I want you to hear me on this.
Even if you've seen the trailers, first of all, the most vague trailers I've seen in
years.
Yeah.
Number two, don't take the trailer as gospel because whoever edited these trailers, they
deserve an Oscar on their own because there are moments in this trailer, Donna, and I
want you to hear me.
There's one specific moment I know for a fact and there's got to be more.
Were they actually manipulated the background in the trailer to make it look like it's
part of a completely different scene?
Yeah.
They did a similar tactic with Ragnarok with the catching the hammer scene.
I was like, what?
Because at one point I looked at you and I was like, wasn't that someplace else?
Yeah.
And you were like, yeah, I've never seen it done like this before and it's brilliant.
Because I was like, all right, I know when this moment, oh no, it's happening right now.
No, I don't.
Okay, fair enough.
Nice little bait and switch.
And that's not even who that person is talking to.
What?
Okay, now let's do this.
You almost owe it to yourself to go into this film, cold.
You have to.
Because to experience this movie in its, all of its beauty, I mean, there's no other way
to say it in all of its beauty.
This film works on every level and I'm going to say it because I said this in my written

If for the first time in 40 years, you hear the word Star Wars and Best Picture in the
same sentence.
And you and I talked about this after the film and I was like, am I out of my realm right
now?
No, I don't think so.
And the farther I'm getting away for it, the more I'm sold on it.
And this thing's trying real hard to be my favorite film of the year.
It's trying real, real hard.
I may have to put that film in bomb city and a cage and let them fight it out.
Wow.
That didn't think anything was going to knock that film off its perch for you.
You're going to find out in three weeks.
So make sure you're back in this studio on January 6th because that's what we're going
to do our year in review.
I just, this movie is amazing and I'm really trying to make sure every time I say it that
I take my geek hat off and I don't feel like I have it on right now.
This movie works on every level.
And I mentioned in my written review that, where's that at?

That I really felt like the last two Star Wars films that we reviewed.
We reviewed them so closely.
We did the written review so closely after viewing them that it was really hard for me to
take by fanboy, glistening off of it and just try to be a little bit more objective.
And that's why I did this time.
I gave myself a day or so to process it because I didn't want to write it right after watching
because then I was just going to gush all over it.
I gave myself about 27 hours before I wrote mine because I wanted to get it up as quickly
as we could.
And I felt like giving myself that extra cushion allowed me to look at it a little bit
more objectively as a film rather than just a huge Star Wars nut.
And it allowed me to see some of the things that bothered me about it just a little bit.
It's really hard to find anything for me to complain about in this film.
For me, the only downside I saw, there's a couple of scenes that I felt were a little
out of place.
And we can talk about that off-air because, again, I don't want to ruin a frame of this
film.
I'm not going to go into anything specific, but a big chunk of the beginning of the
second act felt like it was just kind of there to pat something out that they really didn't
need to pat out.
I can understand that.
Yeah.
I mean, I was so far on the edge of my seat.
It didn't matter to me.
Yeah.
But there were things there that I'm like, this could have been resolved in a completely
different way in a much quicker fashion.
And we could like, like, you're so fond of saying, where is the chase and how can I cut
into it?
I'm like, I feel like they were kind of holding this hostage just because they could, just
to pat out the length of the runtime.
I didn't feel that way.
And there was some great fleshing out of some characters.
Remember, you've also got Gwendolyn Christi back in this.
You've got Benicio del Toro's in this, Laura Dern's in this.
Anybody that's just like, hey, Lupita Nyong goes back in this, like, I feel like anybody
that called in is like, ever wanted to be in a Star Wars film, Ryan just said, y'all
come on in.
Well, there are some great cameos that are, like, a lot of these unspoken cameos.
And again, I don't want to ruin anything that people don't know.
Yeah.
Like, if you remember the Daniel Craig bombshell from Force Awakens, there's a handful of
them.
Then wait to you here.
I'm not going to say I'm here.
I'll let you look them up on your own.
Yeah.
There's some pretty many.
There's also some rumors of other people in this film, maybe one of them's getting married
soon.
It's been in the headlines as of late.
Precisely.
He has a sibling that might be with them precisely.
But this movie just works on every level.
It really does.
It makes you giddy.
There are several moments where I literally felt myself getting lightheaded.
Like, I felt like I want to go back and see this, but I want to go back with your daughter
when she was like seven.
I want to take my goddaughter when she was at that age.
Now, of course, I will still go with her now.
If she wants to go, she's my goddaughter and I love her with all my heart.
She does want to go, but now I'm also bearing my wife is not doing this.
And she loves her.
It's Star Wars.
It's so good.
And it's one of those that I just, I can't stop freaking out over.
My bar was set very high and it destroyed my bar.
And for a lot of people that are thinking they're trying to follow that formula of the
OG trilogy, maybe not so much.
No.
And it's been really hard for this.
This has been one of the hardest weeks I've ever had to go through after seeing a screening
because I couldn't talk about it with any thought.
I know.
It's like Dave was with us.
So I can talk to Dave about it.
I can talk to you about it.
And I told people, you need to go see it.
Just go talk to me after you've seen it.
Text me after you've seen it, unless you're going to like a midnight show, don't text me.
But like my old boss in front of the show, Brad's able, he's seeing it tonight.
He's actually about to start it as we're recording this.
Right now he's about to start watching it.
We've got some very dear friends from the old group that are all going tonight.
They can't wait to talk to them about it.
We've got a really cool showing of it in Orlando, so I can't wait to get their reactions.
One of them we saw for the Wiggins with a couple of years ago, shout out to Chocley.
Don, is there anything else you want to know before we get to the final analysis?
Well, here's the thing that I'm getting from this.

We've got people in the green room that are in the green room because they don't want to
be in here tearing us talking.
They're not in here for a reason.
And Hunter decided he was going to open the door.
And now he's sleeping.

I know you're trying to be spoiler free.
Uh-huh.

And I've been hearing this whole thing.
It's great.
It's great.
It might be my best film of the year.
Uh-huh.
But you're not given, was it the acting?
It's everything.
Like everybody understands their parts.
They play it within the confines of the story.
The story is so richly written that you're engaged the entire time.
Visually it's absolutely brilliant.
It works on every level.
I will clarify one thing because you mentioned the acting.
Daisy and Mark crush their roles in this film.
So that's where I want to get specific being spoiler free.
But I can't even be specific.
Like the chemistry between Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill is nothing short of brilliant.
Okay.
That's why I want to get stuff that's spoiler free.
But I want to get more from this review.
Here's the thing.
Okay.
And it's well noted.
Um-hmm.
Episode four.
The remake.
Episode seven.
Stop it.
I was going in.
The sixes of remake of episode four.
Okay.
First off as a joke.
Just start off on the frozen planet and she doesn't lose her hand and she's in, uh,
where island's not her dad.
Okay.
I, I would just, just kind of remiss her dad that would be very uncomfortable.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay.
But you know what?
Okay.
Because I had so high hopes, but you know my big beef with episode seven.
I know.
I know.
Well documented.
But the, the, the, the rogue one I liked.
I really liked.
Oh, that's great.
And you know that.
Mm-hmm.
What do you think I'd think about this film?
That's a flow well.
Absolutely.
The guy without the Greek cred in the room here.
Okay.
But I've still been watched.
I've seen Star Wars 30 times.
I've seen Empire Strikes Back 30 times.
All that stuff.
So I, I'm more into Star Wars in like Thor or the Marvel universe.
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
I did not Greek cred in this room.

How will a non Greek cred person feel about this film?
Oh, we talked about it earlier, dude.
I mean, you could, you could have never have seen a Star Wars film and go into this and be okay.
All right.
But still, it will somebody really like this film.
It's not too complicated.

That's, that's my thing.
This is a film that literally there's something for everybody in it.
And it doesn't drag.

Oh, because okay, here's my other thing.
And this is, and I want you to answer spoiler free.
I'm gonna make this question.
So you can't answer spoiler free.
You know, X-Men, it goes back and then this changes.
And that changes.
And then this movie and that movie and all that.
And you get lost in the thing.
This storyline is pretty simple for a non Greek cred.
It's straight forward, dude.
Yeah.
There's no time paradoxes.
Yeah.
And for the first time in the history of the franchise,
you have a film that takes place immediately after the events of the film before it.
There's always been a multi-year time jump in every film in a franchise.
At least a year or two.
This one is like straight after.
Okay.
It's like you saw the end of episode seven.
Episode eight.
It's up right there.
It's spoiler.
Not right off the back, but yes.
Yeah.
All right.
So spoiler three, two, don't say the one.
I'm not doing spoilers.
Everybody knows that somebody passes away in episode seven.
That is correct.

It's been two years.

There wasn't too much time between it.

How much did we gush over Rogue last year?

Because it's amazing.
How does this stack up to Rogue?
I think that's the an easier comparison.

It's so apples and oranges because the tone's completely different.

Even a lot of people would agree with that.

So with me with the Star Wars trilogy, I'm like Chad.
Empire is my favorite.
It's the gold standard.

I've always been a Jedi guy.

But I can't say like...

I feel like Episode 8 just stands by itself.
I like this.
I'll make it out.
I liked it more than I liked Episode 7.
And I enjoyed Episode 7.
I said that as well.
But I talked to people after the screen too that like Episode 7 more than they like this.
I like this so.
And I like it every bit as much as Rogue.
Even though like you said, it's a different tone.
That was a saving private Ryan type film.
Yeah.
But as far as just pure enjoyment factor, I like this every bit as much as Rogue.
I feel like this is...
This is one I could break out and watch it any time.
Where has the rest of the films in the franchise...
I'd have to be in a certain mood to break them out.
You know what I mean?
If I had to rank it in a Top 5 it would probably be Fourth.

This is a film that if you brought somebody on a date and you didn't tell them it was Star Wars and you didn't like...
If you took like the opening crawl and everything out of it, your date would enjoy it.
Because there's something in it literally for everybody.
It's not just for geeky people.
There's action.
There's adventure.
There's drama.

Again, like I said, I've said it a hundred times.
It works on every level.
And there's no suspension of disbelief for Star Wars.
Sci-fi is always bad.
You know what I'm talking about.
But for Star Wars there's no major...
Major pathetic suspension of disbelief.

Is there a take at the end after the credits?
There never has been in this film.
It's just out of the ask.

There is something worth staying through the midway point of the credits for though.

I love this movie so much.
I can't wait to see it again.

The way we do the final analysis on the show, we're not going to give you thumbs up, thumbs down.
