Welcome! My name is Rob. I am the executive producer of the Clubhouse podcast and
I'm a fan of movie series. This is the 159 iTunes exclusive, closing in on another milestone,
but I'm not alone as I normally am not produced. Joining me across the desk is a man who doesn't
like it when you mess with him, especially when it comes to his food. He is Jack. Welcome, sir.
I don't think I'm alone in that film. Also joining us is the official fact checker of this show and a man
who could not be jamming any more than he is right now. He is lip-sinking like there's no tomorrow.
You may know him as fun Don Go, but his mom and even Don Ford, I'm going to call him Don Ford.
Welcome! You know this is one of my all-time favorite songs of our time, sir. I love it.
This is one of my top 10 favorite songs about time. Whenever we do one of these, it is
normally to review something and this is no exception. We're just going to get right into it. We're
here to review the Hunger Games mocking Jay Park 2. It is the finale of the series. The third book
split into two films, which seems to be kind of fashionable in recent years. Catness goes on
her final push to rid the world of presidents now. I mean, is there anything I'll see you say?
Yeah, there's one thing I've got to say. What's that, sir? We have to fake Julie Candace.
Everybody at Marock is so good. Why is Jay for inviting us to this thing?
Thank you so very much for inviting us. So much better to us than they have to.
And they showed it to us in the eye mask. And I'm at home even better not complaining at all.
But I think we've said, but we need to say about the plot. If you don't know what's going on with
the Hunger Games first of all, we would like to welcome you back from living in a cave.
You know, this is the fourth film. So you should pretty much be on to the bit by now.
And you know, this is the airbait notes. This is the final one of the final book.
Francis Lawrence, who's directed the second third and fourth films.
So, I mean, there's some familiarity there. You've got your Woody Harrelson. You've got your
Jennifer Lawrence. You've got your Liam Hemsworth. You've got your Donald Sutherland. You've got your
Philips. You're more Hoffman. You've got rest of Seoul. You're Julie Ann Moore. You're Willow
Shields. You're Jenna Malone. You're Jeffrey Wright. They're all here. They're ready to rock the
party that rocks the Pinata. Rack this thing up. So let's just get right into it. This thing runs
at two hours and 15 minutes, which is why they had to split it into two films. Chad.
Sure. You want to start with me? Absolutely. I do. If I hadn't, I wouldn't have called you name.
Oh boy. I'm going to be the salt in the wound here, I guess. I'm not going to give you
honest opinion because that's what we ask of you. I started to kind of lose my confidence in this
film series immediately after catching fire because catching fire was my favorite of the series.
I think it's a series. Not even going to bear it. Yeah. It's to me. I think catching fire is
catching fire was a series strong point. Yeah. I was waiting for this. Well, I'll come in or
that. Um, and it's, it's kind of confusing to me what they've done with this character.
And, you know, I don't know if I'm alone here or what, but it seems like they took her character.
They took the character of Katta Sabredine in a direction that I just, I wasn't quite expected.
Now, when you say they are you talking screenwriters or you talking Suzanne Collins because
remember, this is based on her book and she, I input on the screenplay. I don't know. That's, that's
something that I put in my written review at www.clothestpodcast.com. That's our website that I really
don't know where the blame lies here for the direction that they took the story into because I don't
know, I haven't finished the books. I've got them. Thank you guys, Jeff. Yeah. Sticking the link.
Christmas gift. What? Two years. Yes. Yeah. Because I didn't want to finish them. Oh, yeah.
Yeah. Because I wanted to get through the films and then read the books. Fair enough. So I really don't
know how many artistic licenses were taken with what Suzanne Collins wrote, but I don't know.
It's just, I don't like where Katta is wearing up. And I'm trying to stay a spoiler free as
I possibly appreciate it. Yeah. It's very difficult in a film like this because it's so high profile.
But most of the most of the people that have gone to see that are going to see this film
have probably already read the books and know where it's going to wind up. You know,
Charlotte, who loves these books? By the way, again, they were recording this. It is her birthday.
So I have to be almost a tomorrow's her birthday. So by the time she hears this, she'll it'll
be her birthday. She told me from Jump Street. People are going to be really mad about the way
this movie ends. If it sticks to the source material. Now, unfortunately, she was under the weather
and could not join us for the screening. So I don't know how that sits. But I can tell you another
person that I know that is read the books would be the lovely and talented Mrs. Irvin. And we were
talking about it after we got home from the screening the night before we record this podcast.
And she mentioned a couple of things. She's like, well, what about this? And I was like,
really? Yeah. I'd really love to pick her brain. But she didn't remember how the book
ended. So she has to go back and revisit the book because she read the books it forever ago. But
it's nothing. Well, here's my thing with again, I'm with you catching fire was my favorite of
this series. Mocking J part two. And Donna, you and I talked about this a little bit last night.
Ultra violent. Where I thought really that your pinnacle for the violence was going to be
catching fire because of what that was. It was like they took all of this stuff that they wanted
to put in those other stories. And we're like, this was really cool, but we didn't have time to
do it in the other films. So just throw it into this one when they get to the Capitol City.
And I felt a lot of it kind of got crammed into the second half of this thing. There was about a
20 minute section of the film that I thought they'd spliced in Alien 3. I was trying to figure out
how that worked. Yeah. But to me, it felt like part two just didn't know what it wanted to be.
It's a film struggling for an identity that never really seems to find its identity.
And it finishes. It doesn't crash in burn. But the way it ends is more like the way superman lands,
versus like a ton of bricks. You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah. It ends. There's an ending.
There's a resolution. But it's not necessarily maybe the resolution that people would have
wanted. Yeah. That's that's probably really not being as complaint. It makes sense. Yeah.
But also there's a, it also suffers from Return of the Kingitis, too.
Because you're like, oh, oh, nope, nope, wait, there's more. Wait, wait, wait, there's more.
And I don't know if the books are that way either. But I think as a film, I enjoyed it.
I didn't leave the theater like I need 17 more of these. It was fun. It was
enjoyable for a two hour and fifteen minute film and don't I'm sure you'll concur with it
pacing very well done yeah I'll give that I don't know about that I don't know if I agree
with that really there there were moments where I felt myself drifting off really yes I mean
I know that the the the complaints have been have been very very vocal about
specter that people have complained that it felt too long it collapsed under its own
weight it just kind of seemed a meander that's how I felt about this film so for the
I mentioned to one of the people that we screen this with that you know for all those people
that have been complaining about specter I guess this is how they felt how I feel as
how I guess they felt for me the only thing that that I would can't do to specter with and

website is just that the length of it I mean I liked it but I didn't love it you know what I mean
that's that's what it has in common with specter for me as I liked it I can't say that I loved it
I liked it I don't I don't I don't want that two hours and 15 minutes back
getting to see an IMAX was beautiful yeah absolutely gorgeous especially from an audio aspect
if you if people that that that poo poo on IMAX audio and an IMAX theater alone is worth the
presentation yes it is there were a couple of elements to the story which I'm assuming
followed the source material that I necessarily think we're necessary but as a film I can't
fault it no not that that's one thing that I'm trying to make a clear distinction of I don't fault
the film I fault whoever was responsible for this script don't worry you out with this okay
by the way your screenwriters I'm going to get that for you here in just a Peter Craig Danny
Strong and Suzanne Collins helped with the adaptation there you go on the storyline I agree with you
it's two hours in 15 minutes roughly and it didn't drag for me there I thought maybe there's a
time or two where it went like the 20 miles prior to 35 zone but only for a couple moments in this
film the action is good throughout the film but it really hits halfway through the film
in a couple scenes where it's a boom boom boom and that's where the action really begins and
you know what I'm talking about what scenes on that where we see some people we've never seen before
it's all gonna say on the ending you know talking to Missy who was my plus one last night
who's read the books and you know wanted wanted to see this really bad she said
the ending is a lot different than what we saw okay fair enough just to let you know fair enough
being spoiler free now the ending did I like the ending I thought it was kind of quaint I mean
a lot I'll be honest like the last 15 minutes of this film there's real no action so don't
expect a big like you're saying big there's bricks it's more about the resolution than it's about
the resolution you know there's emotional points but there's a lot of stuff I think from the book
that from what I heard and read and everything that they could have added to this film considering
that they got two movies to make the one book right so I think they rushed the ending a little
too much um but overall did I like the film yeah it as a fan of the hunter games
in the people who really love this of course you got to see this thing of course yeah of course
I mean it's well if nothing else you've done this far finished the thing yeah I mean the final
let's say the action scene that's pretty close to what's in the books okay after that after that
where there's no more actions but that way it really kind of you know take some liberties
put it that way but overall I I like did it's just there's something there that I just can't
get my grip on it I think it was missing I mean the great action now that you have to
that one those couple scenes right in the middle of the film I was like okay now we're getting
what we waited for given the people what they want yeah it's kind of like that Star Wars episode
two where they have a bunch of talking then they get the big battle at the end it's not that bad but I
think they kind of held off before the real action begins and also I like the look of the film
especially in the beginning parts when this really dark is it's a dark time for them it is they
really showed the lighting of what was going on mix the the lighting and the scenery and the weather
really mixed with was going on with them like when they're doing the battles and stuff like that
one scene I'm going to say is by the mansion it was grayed out grayed out right but then a final action
scene where there may be some resolution it's Sunday's compete but at the beginning when they're
doing those flights and everything it's dark it's gloomy so I really loved how they had the lighting
of the film really match the mood of what was going on with the film all right Chad here's your
your writers Peter Craig did the town okay and he will be doing top gun too
no film I have concerns Danny strong who is an actor mainly he was unjustified he was on madmen
Gilmore girls buffy but his writing credits he's done about 30 episodes of Empire
really he also wrote a lead Daniels the Butler till he works closely with lead Daniels because he's
also responsible for him right so that those are your writers here yeah Peter Craig he was really
getting just so like that he was good I mean from a from a performance standpoint you get what you get
I mean you've had these people now most some of them for four films some of them for two some of
them for three the one that really threw me and it took me forever when I figured out who he was I was like
why did I not know that um well I just lost it the guy that plays Pollock's Elden Henson
what yes please where that's foggy on Daredevil thank you that was driving me bizarre was driving me crazy too
and I pulled up the IMV page I don't know what I mean what do I know this guy from what I know
is guy from to the acting I mean the acting from what you saw in the past films I think the
acting is about that same level from the most of the main characters I mean and you would also
know him from the mighty ducks okay but god god god god yeah you know you had um uh Elizabeth Banks
she plays that same kind of role what you seen in all four films Julian Moore hasn't changed your
style what they have a seat with Hoffman said southernland what you saw in the acting is you're
probably gonna get the same from what you saw in the other you get what you get yeah so I wasn't
say there there was any real differential acting compared to the other films it's that same mode
so I didn't really see much change which I didn't kind of like they also said that they didn't have
to fake anything with Philips anymore often really yeah there was no digital stuff done what they
filmed is what they used wow they did not they not I thought there was one scene where it was
they didn't at least that was that was never the the maybe they did and the because according to
what I looked up on Wikipedia they didn't have to fake anything that was never the Lawrence's intent
so they're correcting it they hadn't finished it and that they rewrote two of the scenes that he
was going to be in which is I'm sure one of the scenes that you and I were discussing in the
car line right is it the tour of the end at the okay so last battle scene we could say after that after
that okay that one yeah I think the last battle scene when it showed him a couple times we didn't
say nothing that looks CGI to me on that but if they're saying that they didn't but again you know
what you're getting with the cast because you've been with this with them you know Jennifer Lawrence
you've been with this in four films what do you hear us in four films yeah those are the bank
four films so there's nothing new brought to the table there doesn't mean it's any last
great because but but it did kind of feel like at a certain point everybody's playing to finish
because I'm sure that rolls like this takes so much out of you that you finally get to a point
of just because I mean I felt mental exhaustion and not in a bad way but just being along with
these characters in these films that you're like there's at a certain point you gotta be like
man as as we've heard other people say I gotta get this character out of my head you know
tired of having these conversations with these people and again liked it but didn't love it but
that could be of the same way that the books were written to which I'm sure by the time that
people are out there hearing this hunger games fan are going to be yelling at their their iPod you know
about what we're talking about and we'll figure it out sooner or later but as a film I enjoyed it
it was it's a good epic style film that looks great again a lot more violence than I was expecting
out a part two of this film but it wasn't bad some of it felt rushed some of it didn't but
it's about it's about part for the course I mean the film the film looks looks great for for it
it tells the story well with what it's given you had to do that you had to do at least once anything
I'm sorry get some final analysis I do want to say one thing my good friend Missy who is my
plus one who read the books and everything that she she she was happy that's all I'm going to say
she was really happy with the end she wasn't disappointed and stuff like that from especially reading
the books and wanting to see this and like I've said as sure I was going to be part of my
barometer my wife's going to be part of that barometer too but yeah my green chat I feel about
the way this ended I feel about the same way I did with Harry Potter I feel like that just the ending
should have been better considering all the buildup that led up to it here's one question do you
think they'll make another one just because it's Hollywood yes I do hope not yes I do because
because you know this movie's going to make a ridiculous amount of money and the lions gate
CEO said earlier this year that they're looking at developing either a prequel or a sequel possibility
and don't do this and given this given the open ended ending that we got so to speak
you can see how it would happen either way or a prequel actually showing the original
revolt 74 years ago maybe so maybe see how it all started I mean dude you know if they can cash in
they will cash no no I'm just don't don't be shocked if and when it happens all right well
let's get to the final analysis the way we do the final analysis on this show
we don't give you thumbs up thumbs down you're welcome sir we don't give you one to ten we don't give
stars we don't give you letter grades our audience whom we affectionately refer to as the
empire is better than that I'm going to ask these gentlemen two questions question number one is
would you see this film again if the answer is no then we're done here but if the answer is yes
the second question is how far are you going to be willing to go see it will you see it in first
run will you see it at twilight show will you see it Matt and A early morning second one at the
dollar theater will you wait for it to go to red box will you stream it on Netflix or will you wait
for it on cable chat nope okay done would you see this one again oh yeah yeah far you're willing to go
now I'm going to do two things here fair enough because I think the empire deserves something like
this because it is a series that a lot of people love to date to date okay to the hunger game
addicts okay full price theater through the addicts fair no to the big fans to the to the
Uber fan yeah you gotta see this regardless fair enough you know as a non huge fan as the objective I
could say I would recommend this as either twilight or Matt name it's still good to see the theater
I would see it in I'm X because I really the sound and everything I think really enhanced it
I would see it again if you haven't seen it go check it out in the theater
not really particular of how much you're willing to pay to see it just how much you can afford yeah
on a repeat basis this would be one that I maybe want to get some friends together in Marathon the
whole thing take a day and just start with the hunger games and with bogging yeah one this comes out on
ethics got how many months from that or would it be you know when they release the Uber set that's what
that's I'll probably me personally watch this again when they do that you know ethics is going to get
because they have the other three you know that's when I watched the that one because they'll do the whole
foreigner row you know ethics is known for that so the hunger games mocking Jay part two before we've
