This is a movie that has literally been around for decade

Car-y-wong and I'm sure you're probably going oh that car-y-wong

He's a very very big perfection

And if it gives you any perspective
He took a year just to edit this film

I don't want to go deeper into that as we will

Because if you go any deeper than that it's just gonna give away too much
Let's start with the film itself
I very much enjoyed this film
I thought that the story
Kind of got disjointed in a couple of places, but it did catch up to itself. Not in a pulp fiction kind of a way
But we'll talk about
What I mean by that here in just a moment. Jules will start with you. What did you think of film?
I find it very entertaining
I enjoyed it. Anything specific
I just like how the shot everything in slow motion at the start of the movie
So that's the comfort style. Like this. Yeah, I just like how that the style of how that how that everything was done
All right, done
I did but I really did like it. I'll say I have a prejudice usually about some title films
I have trouble watching them and then you mentioned that is what we were at dinner before the film
It you weren't sure about films that are subtitled which I thought was very interesting
Because sometimes I can't read it all so fast and it's like I'm feeling like I'm missing part of the movie
But this one I kept on really good. I was able to really go
You know watching it live and everything. I will say the film is I think I like about it was of course the action was incredible
It had that kind of action sequence filled in matrix also, but
Well, you say that because the fights are choreographed by the guy who did the matrix
But the thing I liked about also when we know this movie, yeah, yeah, and I know you could you could fill that in there
But the one thing I really liked it had a feel of elegance in it
And we'll get to the visual style here in just a minute
But that's what I really wanted you think about the film itself
Oh, I
Kind of like in some parts like you're saying it was the you know basically a 20 year journey from the early 30s to the 50s
But I think they told the story get overall. I like the action
Overall. I really did like it. I really did. I chat
There were things about this movie that I liked and there are things about this movie that I wanted to like but found myself wanting more
Okay, I like what well
Anybody who's seen the ads for this movie you kind of get the impression that it is just gonna be a
A butt kicking fast all the way through it, and it's really not
Do you think that's because of who produced it probably? I mean, you know
Are you are you are you meaning who released it domestically or no? Yeah, yeah domestically
I'm so yeah because I mean there are literally three versions of this film that have been released
You've got the domestic Chinese cut that ran it
130 minutes, which is what we saw on IMDB right?
We should all be able to see it pull it up and the there's another version that they showed at the Berlin film festival that clocks in
It's seven minutes less than that at under 23 but the one we saw was 108 and I'm really curious as to
What gaps got left
Once the Weinstein company got a hold of it and
dissected a good
25 minutes out of this film because and I do wonder if that was why it got disjointed like I can't help but think that that's got to be the case
Because you've got some some I know you said that it really wasn't pulp fiction
But to me it kind of was because you're kind of jumping around
You're kind of telling things out of sequence because okay, we're removing one step forward so we can show you what happened two steps back ago
And literally close to the end of the film at the time I got real fuzzy for me
You know, like I will you know say much, but the train fight the train station fight okay
I didn't realize where in the timeline that was taking place
That was that was that was current and see at the time that that fight was happening
I did not know that I thought it was happening like 10 years before was happening and it wasn't you know
I'm like okay, so this happened then and okay, well now I'm really confused so
I don't know I mean this there wasn't anything that that when they went into that scene
It kind of gave any obvious clues that that's when this was that's when this was going on
Visually well, we don't want to get too much into it, but the movie is going to be the next thing we're gonna talk the the movie itself
I liked it. I wanted to like it more
You know, I had pretty high expectations going in because I'm familiar with one car wise work
This is apparently his most successful film to date
I'm sure it will it's it's I mean it's done very well in the homeland
It's like in his home. Yeah, like it's like it's like 50 million which is pretty good for them believe it or not
Visually
Stony absolutely
Don't make that definitely beautiful use of
Black tones versus gold tones the
The winter scenes with the snow the the rain scenes visually
Absolutely stunning. I always and what I liked about the film
Especially when we talk about the visuals and don't we're gonna go to you first on this
Too many times and we see action films we get that style over substance problem
Where we're gonna and we're gonna talk about that in another special edition
We're gonna be doing here in a little while
Where you're letting the visual drive the story instead of the story being handed hand with the visual
And I really honestly believe that in this film
That Kaiwar won did a great job in letting the the visual work hand in hand with this story
And I think that's maybe where you got a little bit disconjointed Chad
Where yeah, the trailer did make it look like it was just gonna be a kung fu fast
And there was some kung fu in it's great kung great great action sequences and I judge a good kung fu
Especially in the modern era

You fooled me enough to to ignore that there could be wire work. Yes, because there's too much that we were a lot of this
Like yeah, that was wire work. Come on
They were a couple tiger you didn't care right so beautiful. There was a couple of points where I was like that was a little too
Wiring for me, but for the most part the fight sequences were well-cored right to see my pain
Yeah, who's actually in the film towards the end if you want watch for him
I'm not gonna tell you where but you will see him in the film
visually absolutely stunning off the charts done
I agree 100% with you on that. I I liked
How they can have the fights and the in the rain sequence and you could feel like you were there
You felt like the rain was you were in the rain. I thought personally
I liked how they used all the scenery the scenery wasn't credible and the use of the scenery even in the fight sequences
But the thing overall visually something like I'm saying but I
Thought for kung fu film this was very incredible in the fact that it had a very very
Great elegance it felt like this was a very well put
elegant movie which you had do not see very often with a kung fu style movie
Okay, Jules actually I'm sorry chat
This is the kind of film that it transcends its own genre and it gets people that normal flight well-flight wouldn't watch a film like this
To watch a film like this. I mean because to me it's almost like
Take crouching tiger and throw in the notebook and put it in the blender and you come up with this film
You know what I'm saying you you can you can appeal to both crowds. I see where you go with that
There's a beautiful love story right there's also action and it's story driven right
well acted you know
It's only lung needs an
Either he needs an Oscar here or he needs the equivalent of an Oscar and Hong Kong
Because the man's gifted oh
Yeah, he's got actually placed it mine right beautifully acted very
Very fluid and he's stop. Let's go back to that Jules visually
Especially I think it was it was beautiful it was well put together
I looked everything about the the aspect of how it was done and it was made like it was

Acting wise
Chad just said it impeccable

played eight months beautifully acted

Who you might have known for the Tekken film as martial law

That's that's the main thing that she would probably he was in Pandoram
He's in the man with the iron fist which we have not watched yet
Which sitting on my DVR right now
But I recognize him I was like that guy looks familiar to me
Also very well acted I don't know if there's anybody in the film but I was like okay, that was a little over the top for me
Oh, he's also in the man with the iron fist. That's what I just and Pandoram

And we don't edit these episodes this just happens and we send it out. That's the brilliance of this show
We're not we're not afraid to show a little bit of deep
The flaws in the show as I'm trying from all the
But acting wise, Chad, we go to you like I said
Tony looks a man I've I've seen him play smaller parts, but I've never seen him play lead
Okay in in a you know in a sub titled film
The man's good. I mean I know that a lot of people wanted to give
Charlie on fat all the credit for being a modern day carry grant, but I don't know who you would compare him to
I don't know who you would compare Tony to as far as a he reminds he reminded me of a younger Jackie Chan
He really did like with better acting skills. Yeah, he's he's a lot more he's he's really really stoic
But I thought he was very very good in this film. Yeah

Really found and from a guy that does not I can't does not like to read subtitles. Yeah, to say that that's very high praise

How they're able to do the Kung Fu plus regular acting action everything
I'm gonna say this right now
This will get some Oscar nominations without a doubt whether it's best foreign
Well, we're gonna get to that here in just a moment look at that, but I think somewhere
But I the acting I thought was incredible the leak characters the motion plus the action and the real-life story was all
Toling credible. I thought jewels
I love the act and the act and was great and I like agree with both Chad and you so
With it with the actin and how it was like more like a Jackie Chan
So yeah
thumbs up to that
So we'll get to the final analysis
I will begin by saying I agree with Dawn on a certain level. There's no doubt in my mind
This will be nominated for best foreign language film as far as and maybe some visual effects
Maybe cinematography cinematography. I can't speak today
But other than that I don't I don't know beyond that it's gonna depend
In my opinion, it's gonna depend solely on how it is received in this country right now as it stands
I think it's got a better
For many from a number of nominations standpoint might have a better shot with the golden globes than it does with the Oscars

Sorry, sorry, we promised you we've been awake for a while
It just doesn't show final analysis of the of the film
Okay, overall. I think it's it's a it's a great movie and enjoyed it. It was entity in and I had some
Comedy factors in there. We did it didn't eat um
I would you know I would go and say this movie I would I would pay it to go and say this movie
Would you pay for it in a matter of age pay for it in the evening show?
And that's that's that's two different things
Okay, I think I'll go over the second choice. All right, Dawn
I would I would pay for on this one and
Overall I
I would highly recommend it. I would say
Overall with the awards gold globes of course. It will be
I think due to the fact we don't know what's coming out totally yet, but I think there's a chance that since there's gonna be nine or ten nominees
This possibly possibly might get a best picture nomination. Okay, and you're in time of your opinion
Yeah, but born film for sure. We'll be in that mix in a catch of the cinematography everything
I think this was worth the wait on this film

Just to catch maybe what I missed the first go around okay
I would be willing to go full price if you could show me the
Original pit full cut. Yeah, here's my analysis
If I hadn't seen it the first time I saw it I would go to an evening show because I would have had a lot of faith in it
For a repeat viewing I think I would wait for the blue ray director's cut
Because I'm like you I want to where did that other 20 25 minutes go?
Yeah, I think it would what happens there what what was so
Non-shalant that you thought it was worth cutting that's what I want to know that
And I'm sure we'll get it. I'm I'm fairly sure we'll get it in some form
But you know what go see at kids
We enjoyed it. They're far worse ways to spin your money in a theater and I think this will get a lot of word amount
I think in America. I think I think you know wide release or what would stay and limit it
I mean, it's the Weinstein corporation so
I really don't know
But there's a word of mouth theaters will want it if there's such a big buzz more and more will probably want it or might be moved to the bigger theaters
They can adjust if you want to know how the film does
