I'm not alone for this particular episode, because joining me across the desk as he does
from time to time is the official fact checker of this show, and a man that could make
you an offer you can't refuse.
You may know him as fondongo, but his mom and I name him Don Ford, I'm going to call him
Don Ford.

Uh, I got a bridge for sale.
Now, not where I was going, okay, okay, because whenever we do one of these is to review
something.
And today, we are reviewing the latest film from Daughter of Francis Ford Copola Sophia Copola.
See what I did there?
Yeah.
She was also, if you saw the original Godfather, she was the baby that was getting baptized
at the end.
Okay, and she was in Godfather third.
Yeah.
But this time around, she is directing, as she has one and Oscar for, before.
It's called the Begild.
First start this whole thing.
Yes, sir.
You got to go to this one.
I was otherwise booked to this when they did this screening.
So I'm going to read you this synopsis from IMDB.
All right, at a girl's school in Virginia during the Civil War, where the young women
have been sheltered from the outside world, a wounded union soldier is taken in.
Soon, the house is taken over with sexual tension, rivalries, and an unexpected turn
of events.
Here's your cast, Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, El Fanning, Una Lawrence.
Those are the main names that you're going to recognize.
Yeah, I have seen the trailer for this.
Gonna be honest, looks a little creepy.
It is an hour 33.
Don, you saw this.
Let's get right into it.
Is this movie as creepy as I think it is?

I put on here, minor spoiler and three, two.
Don't say the one, the trailer is misleading.
Is it really misleading, all right?
All right.
So, let me kind of sit to stage 1864.
Right.
Right.
We've already got the idea.
Yeah, exactly.
I want you to be exact here, because it's specifically for the end of the civil, and by
the end of civil.
All right.
And so, they find Farrell and he's injured, and the Christian thing they do is they
say, let's heal him, his legs injured, and then once he's up and ready, then we'll give
him to the Confederate soldiers.
All right.
Okay.
Now, remember, this is a remake.
I don't know if you know that.
Yeah, from who?
1971, Clint Eastwood is in the original.
All right.
So.
Then what happens?
Well, he's staying there.
You know, he got Nicole Kim, and this is one of those like, girl, preparatory
schools.
There's Nicole, the person who kind of, Nicole's the, you know, person who runs
everything.
She's the top dog, and he got Nicole who's like the sidekick.
Then he got about five girls going to the school.
I, in that range, hit anywhere from low teens to high teens on the girls.
So it's like, well, those kind of girls schools, they all live there.
They all do their things to try to be proper and all that.
Well, when he arrives, they all get for the
liking for him.
They all get the liking on him.
Okay.
And they're all doing a little small things to try to get his attention and all
that even the young ones, the young ones.
You know, but back then at that, sometimes he had 15-year-old girl's
a gut married.
So then the unexpected happens, and we're going to leave it from there.
Okay.
All right.
Now, I will say this film, one Sofia Copa, the best director at the
Cannes Film Festival.
Yeah.
For the second few moments.
Yeah.
And the first time in 50 years, one by one.
Yeah.
So I thought he was going to be that kind of looking at the trailer where
he's caught with one girl, and they kind of turned cycle on him and kind of that misery
kind of thing, right?
That's what he got from the trailer, and that's what he put on the review.
It's not that.
It takes a whole different direction.
All right.
It's stuff around to make it look that way, but it's not.
Okay.
So I don't want to put any kind of spoilers in on that point.
But it's not really scary at all, right?
It's not that kind of edge of your seat kind of thing.
It's a good-fowing movie of 90 minutes, which I did like.
It's showed life at that time during the Civil War, in the mannerisms and
characterisms of the people the way they acted at that time.
And not really a remake, but it's a new adaptation of the novel.
You can say that.
Okay.
And so the acting, you know what you're going to get with Kidman with Feral, with Dunst.
They do their parts in that.
Do I see any best actresses or best actor nominations on this thing?
No.
Was the acting good?
Yes.
Okay.
I will give it to Kidman, because you know, my lover in Nicole Kidman, or like their obvious.
Yes.
We can say that.
The place that headmaster lady of the running the school plays that very, very well.
And for you to compliment a performance early, and that's pretty pretty big for it.
I do for the apparel.
I'm objective.
We got the objective here.
That's our thing.
Now, one who is in there is one who in the Lawrence.
Remember her?
Yes.
South paw.
You know, the girl's out paw.
So she doesn't have a real shunning out role.
She had, she probably has all the five girls, maybe the leader of the five girls when
she comes to film time and characterism is in that, but still nothing huge or big.
But she did find what she could expect from her other stuff, but not something outstanding
like in South paw.
So the acting was fine.
Okay.
I didn't see anything I didn't like about the acting.
The look was beautiful.
It basically just takes place at that one house.
Just like at it comes at night.
It's just at one location.
There's inside scenes, outside scenes, but basically they find him by a tree right by their
school.
They take a man and he just takes place at that school.
Okay.
Okay.
So the shots are inside outside.
It shows the southern of that time very well.
You think of that plantation house in the Civil War stuff like that.
That's what it gives you on that.
So the look was good.
I like the, you know, I'm big on this historically correct pretty well.
You know, apparently the interiors were shot at the home.
Some of Jennifer Coolidge.
Really?
Mm-hmm.
Who you know is Stiffer's mom.
Okay.
But yeah, it had that historically correct when it came to the sets to the plot in the
mannerism, everything of that time.
Okay.
So here's the thing.
The movie flow as well.
All right.
It did keep me in for an hour, 33.
Yeah, out of 33.
Yeah.
I thought the timing was really good for that.
The thing, this is the hard part for me on our show.
I would like to say what happens in this, but I can't.
Because we like to be spoiled.
We're free.
Exactly.
Fair enough.
And so when I say it's on a totally different turn or goes a different path than
a trailer, that's the thing that bugs me.
This, this really, do you don't feel the trailer represents the film?
Oh no.
No.
No.
You can tell me off air.
Yeah, I'll tell you out there.
So it kind of, in that way, gives me, I really thought as, as a way and
is a false advertisement in a way.
So not as creepy as you know.
Okay.
You're starting to sell me a little bit here.
Yeah, not all.
Yeah, I know you don't like the creepy.
I know you don't like the horror film.
If you, if they, if they put a torch, different trailer and, and show the way that the film
went, you would be interested.
Okay.
Fair enough.
So that's, that's the basic issue.
The my only complaint is I was expecting one thing and I got another.
But what I got, I didn't hate, I did like, because it really showed the time and
mannerism well.
Uh-huh.
But it just, it just kind of put that little sour, you know, you went for the prime rib,
didn't have the prime rib, so instead you got the New York.
Okay.
I'll do the New York strip.
Yeah, but you know, vice versa.
Yeah.
So still, good movie overall.
All right.
Didn't hate it.
You ready to go for the final analysis?
Yeah, let's go for it.
All right.
The way we do the final analysis on much, this show.
We're not going to give you thumbs up thumbs down.
We're not going to give you letter grades, numbers, you know, civil war muskets,
anything like that.
We're going to ask, I'm asking down up to two questions.
Question number one is would he watch this film again?
If the answer is no, then we're done here.
But if the answer is yes, then they follow up questions.
Going to be how far is Donald willing to go to see it again.
From the best of the best of the worst of the best here's the spectrum.
Full price at a theater.
Twilight at the theater.
Matt Nay at the theater.
Early morning at the theater.
Second run at the dollar theater.
Actually, leaving your house to go to red box.
Dreaming about Netflix or waiting for it on cable.
Donald, would you see this again?
Yes, I would.
How far are you willing to go?
I'm going to give it the red box.
Oh, really?
Yeah.
It's still, it's good.
It's not too uneventful, but I'd still like what they did
or showing the civil war and stuff like that.
Are you willing to say good not great?
Good not great.
Okay, fair enough.
Yeah.
But still, I like that.
That's still recommended.
You're at the red box there on the way home looking for a film.
Something not too freaky or anything.
Just something historically.
Go for it.
So feel a couple of directs the beguiled.
