You may know I'm as fond Don Goe but his mom and even Don Ford, I'm going to call him

So if we're doing this it means we're back in the studio finally.
It's going to be bad.
It's good to be back.
This could be a little bit different.
I rearrange some things after we have to the great flood and the great reforming of the
house.
But we are back and things are comfortable and we're feeling good and we're going to review
a movie for you now because that's what we do when we do and iTunes exclusive.

This is the movie that we've waited all year for.
Not afraid to say it.
Kiera the Edward you may remember him as the director of the Godzilla reboot a couple of
years ago.
He directs rogue one a Star Wars story.
This is the first time that a feature film has been done and what could be considered
the extended universe.
Well it could be considered.
No I'm saying it may not be the first feature film and a theater.
Yes believe it or not.
Maybe not internationally but those Ewok stories were released theatrically.
It's not just not locally.
Before we start this whole thing.
We have to thank two wonderful people.
Absolutely.

Is that just a reminder the Ewok movie game of the action?
No not here.
Not domestically.
Not actually.
They didn't talk about Merke.

Well we ain't the only people on this planet.
We are Merke.
Just technically speaking.
Here's what you need to know.
This takes place between episodes 3 and 4.
It is the story of the rebellion really kind of getting its feet underneath itself as
they prepare to steal the Death Star plans that are integral to pretty much everything
that happens after it.
All star cast in this deal.
Full of City Jones, Diego Luna, Alan Tudik's voice, Donny Yen, Ben Mendelssohn, Forest Whitaker,
Mads, Mickleson, Riz Ahmed, Jimmy Smiths, the list goes on and on and on but I don't want
to go too deep.
Because I'm telling you, I'm just going to say this up front.
I'm even going to bury the lead.
There's a lot of surprises in this.
We're not doing any details.
There's a lot of surprises in this.
I don't want to go any further down because I really, there are things about this film
that I didn't know going into it and I want other people to experience it the same way
I did.
I was very glad to be spoiler as spoiler free as possible.
Diego Luna, that's not that nonsense.
He's a friend of the show.

If you go back and you listen to our second show at the Dallas International Film Festival
this past year, Diego was on our show for what 2020.
Can we take?
Yeah.
Could not be a more wonderful man.
Basically, you've got Felicity Jones placed Jen Urso and I can go a little with this because
this was in the final trailer.
Mads Michael said his her father.
He is the guy that designed the Death Star.
And the Empire kind of took him away from her.
She's got a little bone to pick with the Empire.
Diego Luna placed Cassian and or he is part of the rebellion not totally on board with
what she's got going on, but he's got his own mission.
Two-dick place K-2-5-0, who is the reprogrammed Imperial droid?
I don't know if I think that's about where I want to sit.
Yeah.
If you start digging any deeper, you're waiting in a spoiler deterrent.
Two hours, 13 minutes is your runtime on this.
So be aware that this is, is this the longest film?
I don't know, it's far longest.
It's up there.
It's got to be close.
Let me check.
I mean, here's my thing.
First of all, love this movie.
Because even as we were watching it, I had to think to myself, can I pull my geek bring
out for a minute and evaluate this as a film?
The answer kind of, it's hard, it's very hard.
Because I had to look at this, I wanted to look at the story as just the story, knowing
what this leads to, it starts out kind of slow.
There's a lot of groundwork that they lay in here that a lot of people would be like,
is it necessary to lay groundwork for this particular story?
It absolutely has to be.
Because real, real fast.
Yeah, fan of minutes, episode one, two hours, 16 minutes.
So it's three minutes longer than this film, which I'm sure you would say feels like
a lot longer than that, I would say that.
But once it gets its feet underneath it, boy, or we off to the races, the starter pistol
goes off.
Because you really have to, and a lot of times we see films, and it's like, I really
don't care about these people's motives.
Here you kind of have to care about their motives.
It's why I don't mind the set up at all.
I'm not saying I'd mind it this set up, it's just kind of slow to get moving.
But once it gets moving, it's a bowling ball rolling down the hill.
Yeah.
Visually, what I loved about it visually is it's an unstarware Star Wars movie visually.
It's got a lot of dirt under its fingernails.
It's got pretty feel to it.
And it's not like it's just enough to be a Star Wars film visually.
But it also has its own kind of unique style, too, which I kind of dug.
Yeah.
I mean, it almost feels like a documentary.
The way that it shot, I can see that, done?
I was watching it, you know, me without the great credit here.
Let's be honest.
Okay, I saw the first six and all that, like most of the, you know, like most red
bloods in America, most carbon-based life forms.
Yeah, but going in, I was really thinking that until about the last third or
quarter of the movie, if they just changed a few minor things, this could have been
a total different movie by itself.
Yeah.
And that was one of the things I was evaluating on is if could you take the Star Wars
name off of this?
And it's still put us through the, except for the last quarter or third of the film,
which I don't want to get into.
Right.
Again, absolutely.
And, but, you know, my thing is, which I was kind of watching, and we kind of
talked after the movie a little bit, is this, when I was watching it, it was slow
moving like you're saying to me, until about the last third or quarter of the
movie, then it really, like you said, got to going.
And at that point, right before it really got going, I was going in my mind, you know,
after, you know, everybody knows my feelings about episode seven, but with episode,
which we will agree to disagree.
Yeah.
Exactly.
That's fine.
But my, my feeling was at one point, right before it really got going, it, it
was, should they, should they have?
They could have, they can, but it's like Chad with the Ice Age film.
Should they make episode four, episode five?
Should they have done this?
I can say, okay, let's be clear on something.
Episode four and five were the original, too.
Now, talk about Ice, of Ice Age, you know what I'm saying?
Okay.
Do they really have to, should they have done it?
And I was thinking, right before this really got going, and in the end, it really
turned my, my feelings around about this film, though, incredibly, I really saw what
they got at the end.
And what you're referring to, and let's be clear, is that Disney has said, you know,
episode seven last year, rogue one this year, episode eight next year, young,
Han Solo, the year after that, episode nine, the year after that, we're a fit.
And Boba, if that's still kind of hanging on the balance, I think Han Solo's
going to dictate a lot of that.
Yeah, they can't but should they, and that was, that was going through, but I'm totally
okay with it, because quality versus quantity, that's my worry, right?
Yeah, but, but it's not with Ice, I see your concern with Ice Age, but that's a linear
story.
Yeah.
You really can't compare those two.
Right.
What you're dealing with with Star Wars is you're only getting a linear story every
other year.
The, the off years is when you're getting what can only be categorized as extended
universe story.
So much more story to tell, there's a lot more meat on those bones.
I mean, I don't know if I need a young Boba fat movie tech, myself, young Han Solo,
I'm intrigued just by because of who's involved in the questions, are they doing that
just to get the big check?
Oh, of course.
Oh, of course.
Where's the quality versus the quality?
They paid six billion dollars for it, they got to get something out there, that's
money.
Yeah.
That's why you have rebels, and that's why you have all, you know, the Lego Star
Wars series.
And that's why you have all these other things because Disney has to make the return
on investment.
Now, granted, they're over halfway there.
Yeah.
But it's Disney, they're going to make their own on the film side of it.
I'm sure on merchandise, they've already reached it.
Yeah.
And now this, and this merch now hitting the store, right, which I thought maybe the
merch for this may have had a little too early, like I wouldn't have released much of the
merch until maybe right around Thanksgiving, but they released some of this stuff
on a topper.
Yeah.
Even so.
It's actually late for them.
Like, I don't think they had originally.
But for a movie like this, like, with episodes seven, these are characters you
know, and you've come to love with a film like this, which is characters we've never
heard of, it's a little bit different of a deal, in my personal opinion.
But it doesn't take away from how much I truly enjoyed this film, and I went in with
the highest expectations, but I was still a little guarded, because what I was worried
about was, are we just doing this to capitalize or is this actually going to work?
And that was my thing.
And it worked for me.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Because I mean, I will admit after now that we're a year removed, that almost to the day, that as
much as I enjoyed episode seven, it didn't hit every note perfectly, because I don't
think any film out there ever would.
But by and large, this was a more cinematically satisfying experience for me.
I'll agree with that.
If for nothing else, because of the emotional highs and lows that we got, all the peaks and
valleys that we got.
And again, if you're, if you're spoiler free at this point, stay spoiler free.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
As there's so much greatness to this movie that you don't want sport, this is, this
is storytelling on a very grand scale, but much like you said, it doesn't, you know,
they spent a fortune on it, but it doesn't, I don't know, there's a lot of it where
it doesn't really look like it that they spent a fortune on it.
You could tell where they spent the majority of their money.
200 million dollar budget.
Yeah, the CGI was, I got to make was totally incredible on this thing.
Again, visually outstanding.
I mean, the, the things that you saw, I feel bad for everybody else come out of your
times for visual.
This is church.
You see things in this film, like the things that you saw on the trailer, you have no
idea.
No.
You have no idea what you did.
And again, so many great moments in this film that, you know, we are navigating
a mine field.
Yeah.
We're talking about this movie because, and I'm, and I'm full disclosure, I've told
the boys, just follow my lead on this because I know how deep this needs to go, or
how shallow this needs to go.
And I know that all three of us are chomping in the bit, but we don't, we want every, all
of our listeners, the entire empire to really go into this, how they want to.
If you've already been spoiled, that's on you and your eternal soul in this between you
and your God and avoid Facebook for the love of God.
But if you haven't, if you haven't been spoiled, I ain't going to be the dude because
that part of the charm of this film are some of those aha moments that if you knew
going in, may not have had the impact that they did, or a couple of them visually specifically.
In my aha moments, I mean, spoiler free again.
I didn't, I didn't, two thirds of the way through the film, I didn't see me there, there
be any of those aha moments.
But that was the brilliant.
Yeah, that's what I'm really didn't end.
It's like, ah, ah, okay, I keep waiting for, oh, there it is, ah, there was a lot of
that, two of, you know, I wonder if they're going to do this, ooh, they did it, you know,
there was a couple of those, I'll leave you out, I'll just start kind of pushing them
on my, oh my god, oh my god, oh my god, they did it.
I just can't say that if there, if there's a fault to this film, if there is, because again,
the cast is great, this cast you know what you're getting.
Mm-hmm.
Well, not a lot of people do though.
Forest Whittaker floored it with over the top, a little bit for me, yeah.
But that's what forest Whittaker does.
And if I've got to have a fault with this film, it's the pacing early on.
That's my huge thing, huge thing.
But, to me, it may be my thing too, I just don't know if it's that big of a thing.
It was going to hurt for a little bit, but it's my biggest gripe, that's my only gripe.
You're still doing okay.
I don't know enough about forest Whittaker's character, because he was featured in Clone Wars
a couple of times, so I don't know how much he's basing his performance on how that
character is portrayed in Clone Wars, because I never really watched anything.
Neither did I, so that's a fair set.
He may be right on point with it, I don't know.
If I have one other thing, me without the Greek red, at the beginning with all these different
planets and all these characters, I'm kind of getting hung up with.
But you know what?
Yeah.
This is also the first time in a Star Wars film that you've had that, where I was kind
of shocked to see that we did the whole, this is what this planet is, and this is what
kind of planet is.
And it's still got a little confused.
That's never been done in a Star Wars film before, and all the Star Wars things, one
thing I noticed, it doesn't start off normally with a dot, a dot, a dot, a dot.
Right, no, no, and that's out there, there is no opening crawl.
You do get the long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, but there's no opening crawl,
which I get, the first kind of hit me sideways, but then I thought about it, I'm like,
you want to save that for the canon films, I get that.
I'm cool with that.
The only thing that shocked me was there was no even a local.
No, that is not what you do get the title card, it just says Rogue One.
Nothing else than we move, but I guess you know if you're in the theater
You know what you're watching. Yeah, yeah, but you know you're so accustomed to a big humongous logo
Slap in you in the fainting
But again, I think about the crawl, but at least the logo
But again, though, I think that's part of separating it from the cannon and it's not a bad
It's not a stupid death of genius. Yeah, it's not a stupid move at all
It's still it's still Star Wars
Right, but it's but it's not it's a Star Wars story
But I was in that perspective and see if you look at the poster. It says rogue one a Star Wars story
Yeah, so for all intents and purposes. This is a spin off as the only way I could describe it to people
So for me it was fine
Because it's separate
It's weird for me, but
Which it would be a little disorienting, but
For me it was good because it separates it from the cannon
It's telling people look you're not gonna see the characters you're used to seeing
This is a completely different story, but it does tie in to the Star Wars story and it's lint
Anything else before we put some ratings on this thing?
It's been two months and we did this. We might be a little rusty
Again, it's it's pretty dark. So
See, I didn't really see a lot for it. No, I'm saying for young young. Yeah, it may be a little dark
It's it's definitely a war film and it can be seen that right for sure
So tread tread lightly. This is this is not Star Wars rebel. Let's pick it weird. It's violent, but it's not graph
No, it's not graph. I will say this. There was a couple moments where I think if I had another complaint
Okay, where do we are for? I'm trying to be very very spoiler free. That's what we ask by the end. It's where they tried to
Get that kind of draw the oh
Moments, you know that that's a Star Wars stuff. Yeah, I mean, but this one was kind of bad on some of those
Do it's just gonna
They try to get the I am going to say yeah one thing that we learned what's that and I don't think this is really a spoiler
But we finally have discovered the one thing that stormtroopers can hit consistently with their blasters and it's each other
Pin point accuracy
Can hit the other guys, I think maybe those blasters are key to white armor. Yeah, it's like laser tags
Yeah, I tell me calibrated
All right, we're rating on this thing. Let's do it here's how we do it on this show
We don't give you thumbs-up thumbs down. We're not giving you numbers stars letters emojis anything like that
It is two questions
Question number one is would you see this film again if the answer's no we're done here
But if the answer's yes, then the follow-up question is how far are these boys willing to go to see this film again?

I'm gonna do something kind of different cuz this is Star Wars. I'm gonna do if you're Star Wars fan
See this thing without a death. Oh, absolutely. Okay. Yeah, it's gonna make it's money
We've got to see it if you're Star Wars and now as the objective without the Greek cred and all that stuff
Because you know, I think I feel no films
Series deserves extra credibility just because it's a part of the film series. Let's fair if this was a film like we were talking
It was called you know, space saga and something like that. Uh-huh
I would put this as a
To the normal person out there with the Greek cred like me
I probably put it either like a matinee or a twilight. Okay chat
Well, I'm just saying because I can't give the full price because the plot drag you're a little bit at the front
Insane, yeah, yeah
Okay, let me let me put my Darth Vader mouse down and I just might go in my my phone call. I have a Darth Vader
I had to have a Darth Vader boba-fed mouse pad, but it's not
Yeah, yeah
Let's see
But let's talk about the follow-up question because I'm interested in your exact follow-up question
How far are you willing to go to the ends of the earth?
Now I did say I want you to dig a little deeper. I did say as we were leaving the theater
That I don't know if 3D would add a ton to this because we saw a non-3D presentation of it
Indeed, we did I would love to see this until be atmas
I would love to see it in I max. I just don't know if 3D would be a maker break for me because
Again, I say
Break it's play Harrison once said 3D never made the story better. I'm not saying make or break
What I would I would I see in 3D? Yeah, I would definitely because I am going to see this in the I max 3D
That that's my next step because I want to see this in an I max presentation
Especially the last third of it. Yeah, I want to see an I max

Bring your family bring your friends being bring people you don't like because you might mend those fences
That's how much we enjoy this film
