I am the executive producer of the Clubhouse podcast.
And I don't own any armor.
Just kind of how I roll.
But I'm not alone for this particular installment.
And joining me across the desk as he tends to do from time to time is the official
fact checker of this show.
And a man who's pretty powerful in his own right.
You may know him as fond on go, but his mom and even don't
forward.
I'm going to call him Don Ford.

I did karate when I was in college.
In the gym.
Yeah, I got pictures to prove it.
All right.
You've got the size in the bow.
Oh, that's right.
We've talked about it on the show.
Yes, we have.
Whatever we do, one of these things, it is normally to review something.
And this is no exception.
The guy that directed Project All-Manac is named Dan Israelite decides he's his
next project is he's going to take one of the most beloved kids franchises in the
last 25 years and bring it into the new millennium as he updates power Rangers.
For a second, this whole thing.
Yes sir, I think Austin and everybody at Slyfox, Zini, Zini, Zini and you know what
I want to talk about Slyfox for just a minute.
Let's go for it.
At this particular screening, I'm going to tell you something.
We got to see all of our friends.
Some friends from Slyfox will be having Sino while we're there, which was great
seeing everybody were such fans of everybody at Slyfox.
They're so great to us.
Let's get into this thing.
Let's do her.
So here's what you need to know.
Many many many many many many.
I'm sorry.
Many many years ago.
65 million of exact.
An alien invasion happened.
Okay, I'm going to stop that now.
Basically there's got him zordon.
He prevents the evil reader repulsum from getting a gym that's hidden inside the earth
that will give her the power to destroy all life.
So he repels her and he buries these coins in the earth and the coins sometime down
the future will be bestowed upon people who are worthy to be a group of warriors known
as the power Rangers.
Now understand, this is not called mighty Morphin power Rangers, it's just power
Rangers.
I always thought that was a little too worthy.
Let me do.
So if that's what we're to current day, where you have a group of young people that are
all brought together by faith, you had Jason, Kimberly, Billy, Zach, and Shreney, a bunch
of misfits.
All the same names from the original 1992 wish deal.
They wind up all in detention, well, three of them wind up in detention together.
And they decide that by circumstance that they're all wind up at an excavation site
where we're Billy decides he's going to blow up the side of a rock and he finds a meteor
in there and they wind up with the coins and here we go, along with two others that
just happened to be there.
So they've got, they find out that read is coming back.
Yes, she's making a scene.
She's ready to rock, brother.
Yep.
And so they have to stop her before she kills all life in this side.
She's going to take over the universe.
All right, let's talk about this for a minute.
Okay, we've actually talked about that my experience with the Power Rangers franchise on
this show before.
Do you realize there have been almost 20 different iterations of Power Rangers in the last 25
years?
No.
This is a true story.
That's more than long order.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
Or see if I started right around the same time.
There's only been four CSIs.
Wow, so wait for CSI Montana.
It's coming.
Okay.
Let me say it.
Probably starring, you know, will you make Macy?
Yes.
But when, when mighty Morphin Power Rangers happened,
I was working at a very large Toy Store chain in my hometown.
And you and I are of the generation that kind of came a generation of late for this.
Yeah, because we were in college by this point.
Yes.
They had these 12 injection figures.
That were very, very highly sought out.
I remember those.
And not only were they highly sought after.
The way they did it, there was the red Ranger is the leader.
Yes.
There was only one red Ranger per case.
What?
This is how it happened.
Oh, Lord.
So we had a plus, we were in a kind of a richer part of town where we were.
Okay.
So people of fair, fair affluent says they'd like to say,
who aren't real good at getting no for an answer?
Yes.
So we had to make a waiting list for these figures.
And I am not exaggerating me.
When I tell you at one point, this waiting list was 1500 people won.
For these dolls, for these action figures.
Okay.
Action figures.
12 injection figures.
And there was only one red in each case.
One red in each case.
To the point where our phone was ringing off the hook.
Is your truck there yet?

No!
And sometimes we would actually just take a case and put it.
Put one case out for people that could get lucky.
Right?
Yeah.
Well, it got so bad that our warehouse guys once actually just opened a case
to just kind of threw it in the action figure out.
Didn't even take them out of the case because they knew it was going to turn into like a prison riot.
Like, that's how bad this was.
Like, people were going crazy.
So because of that, it kind of soiled my view on the power Ranger franchise.
I think I got right there.
It's kind of like no.
There have also been two other movies that I've been done.
There was one in ninety five.
There's one in ninety seven.
Don't sorry.
You're saying you're kind of like the thing with like the beanie babies or the cabbage batch kids.
Yeah.
I mean, to me, those were, there's some semblance of civilized there.
This was insane.
So I've always been fairly anti-power Rangers because of it.
I thought it was real cheesy.
Yeah, me too.
I never got into it either.
Marry more for better.
And they would do the actors playing Rita was a little too over the top for me.
So when I heard they were doing an updated film, I was kind of like, oh boy, yeah, here we go again.
Well, let me add this.

I put on there my intro paragraph that, you know, we got some great things out being a bit critic.
We get a lot of stuff.
I mean, red carpet, Hugh Jackman, hello, Russell, my new press conference.
The on and on and on.
But there are some things in general.
Yeah.
But it's just kind of like, I don't want to do this.
But see, I was, I was kind of, I was kind of net.
Oh, Lord, do I really, I got it.
But we take in as many screenings as we can.
Because we want to be fair.
And do it for the Empire.
No.
But that kind of is where I'm going.
Yes.
I'm the same way.
So when I found out they were, they were rebooting this franchise.
And it's still active on some stations as well.
I think they're up to Ninja Force or something at this point.
I was just kind of like, oh boy, here we go.
And then the first trailer hit.
And I watched the first trailer.
And I said to myself, hold the phone.
I can't believe I'm saying this.
But you have my attention.
And then the first full length trailer came out.
Which at the very, very end of it, you get your first glimpse of Elizabeth Banks as reader repulsive.
And I went, okay, now you really have my attention.
Because this is what a bad guy or a bad gal, a villain should be.
If you don't, I didn't recognize her.
I didn't know what's hurt to us doing the thing.
That's correct.
I saw that in your review.
It's crazy.
And I believe if I'm not mistaken, it is a place that I like to call

And I was like, okay.
And then I saw the last full length trailer.
And I was like, okay, now you really have my attention.
Which I still couldn't believe I was saying those words.
So we went to the screening.
Still a little apprehensive.
But I'm going to give this thing a shot.
Yeah.
I had so much fun watching this movie.
It's the breakfast club with powers.
And that's the second time this year.
I have put a breakfast club reference into a film
The first being table 19.
That's a breakfast club that we're wedding.
This is a breakfast.
This is the breakfast club with powers.
They're in detention.
I was waiting for the guy in detention to do that.
I'm watching you.
You know.
You know.
Hold on.
Exactly.
Yeah.
I loved this movie.
It's right.
It's a little over two hours.
But what I really dug.
One of the reasons I really dug this film
is it's not the power Rangers you know.
It's really not.
This has got a bit of a darker tone to it.
It's got that group of kids that are trying to learn who they are.
And much less how they fit into a group.
And they all come from different places.
There's a little bit of an update to.
A couple of the characters and maybe qualities that they have.
It's been out in the press.
It's not as blatant as you think it is.
Trust me.
But I really had a great time at this film.
With me.
I was like you.
But I saw no trailers.
No nothing.
I was like, oh, you into this cold.
Yeah.
All right.
Fair enough.
What's that?
What do you do sometimes?
Yeah.
And I started watching this thing and going.
You know what?
This is starting to work.
There goes.
You what?
I'm really starting to like this.
You know what?
This is not a bad film.
And because I really like the build.
They're like you're saying the character study of these people and how these misfits
can really get together in all that stuff.
Now here's the problem with this.
And they have to learn how to work as a group.
Yes.
Here's the problem.
Okay.
And I don't hate me for this.
No.
It's European.
You're welcome to it.
Kind of reminded me of the fantastic four.
Where you had a long long long long long long long long long long long long long long.
Build up.
But they did the good in this one.
But the only issue is is that then it's.
Boom.
Big battle scene.
There you go.
And for.
Right at that when that battle scene started.
I was like.
Okay.
Okay.
Here we go.
But it just seemed too cheesy for me.
It just.
It seemed kind of just too.
Lala.
Lala on the battle scene.
You know what I'm saying?
I can see how you would say that.
I really.
That's where it fell short.
I mean, I was going.
We're going.
I really like this.
This is.
And I was up.
See.
I really enjoyed the big climactic battle scene.
I was a huge fan of it.
I thought it was really well done.
For something that's seen as a kid's franchise.
But here's here's my issue that.
You think of the power.
Power Rangers.
Uh-huh.
And.
Might as well order three two.
Don't say the one.
Thank you.
But let's.
Yeah.
Refer to it vaguely first.
And I'll see if how far we can go with it.
That.
It starts off.
With them being the power Rangers.
And then all of a sudden they're in vehicles.
For the rest of the thing.
But that's the way the show goes.
But I think was it was only.
One or two minutes of them.
Being outside the vehicles.
But again, that's the way the show goes.
That's the formula they go with.
I know.
But it was just.
Not enough time of them being outside the vehicles.
Then it's shown to the.
Yeah.
Showing the bill leaves that they have us individual fighters and not being the help of the.
The vehicles is I'm going to say.
I mean, I can see how you say that it didn't bother me because it was really just followed the formula of the series.
Yeah.
And it's just short of single versus we for kids for kids.
For kids that's more about the big robots and everything else.
And you know.
And if you know anything about the way the power Rangers work, you get you get all the elements.
When you're at that big toy chain that they have those robots to.
Um, you could buy them, but they don't think they had in that fit that big.
Because those are 12 inch figures.
And this those swords would have to be pretty big.
Now they had the smaller version.
Okay.
But again, you and I come from a generation of Voltron and Voltron is in a very sacred place.
And that was part of my problem, too, is this was terrible.
The power Ranger very Voltronish.
And I had a problem with that.
But it didn't bother me as much here.
Now there's.
There's a couple of nice little surprises in it.
And and and I said this in my written review conveniently located at the F or
mentioned www dot the clubhouse podcast dot com.
It's personally a star website.
If you've seen the film.
There's a couple of nice little moments that are omages.
To the originals.
Don't ruin this for other people.
And I'll talk about it off there.
Yeah.
But I thought there was some really cool little moments where I was like.
All right.
I'll give you that.
Yeah.
You know, there's also little subtle things that they don't really address.
They don't really address.
I looked up on IMDB like Jason, who's the red Ranger.
The vehicle he drives in the beginning is a red Ford Ranger.
For shadowing.
But again, it was subtle.
And if you didn't catch it, you didn't catch it.
But I really thought this movie was incredibly entertaining.
And I really did.
I just thought the battle soon was kind of.
But I could see why they.
And there's there's something for the for the for the casual fan.
There's something for the deeperly used.
There's a moment at the end where something's mentioned.
And now that theater would crazy.
Yeah.
It went crazy.
And I was just kind of like, I think I know what this is.
And Dave, Dave Scott, who was with us.
He actually looked up.
He's like, yeah, that's what that is.
Oh, okay.
For.
Again, nice little moments.
It's very well paced.
Watch gauge 35 minutes.
Well, 35 minutes.
It really had a good build.
It really really did.
It really.
It really.
Well, it reminds me of that kind of too long of a build.
And you know, like.
Well, again, other little things like what's the blue rangers last name.
The name is Billy Kranston.
Who plays Zordon.
Brian Kranston.
Like if there's.
Because Brian Kranston was actually in the original.
Okay.
He played a villain in the original series.
Zordon.
Uh, not Zordon, but alpha five played by Bill Hater.
Yeah.
Doing his best.
Pat Nozwald in person.
Yeah.
I thought he was fun.
There was even a little salute to him.
I was like a thing from from the series.
Wow.
I know more about this than I really should.
But I really really enjoyed this.
There's also this.
When.
We were at the the screening.
Um.
First stuff.
My girlfriend faith loved it.
Good.
Good.
Good.
Thought was a fun thing.
But the crowd.
Oh, that crop is crazy, man.
We were.
We were in there with you.
We were in there with you.
There were a bunch of fans in that one.
You know, it was one girl.
And he.
Go power.
Oh, yeah.
There's even the moment when they're in the Zords for the first time.
And in the show.
Yeah.
And I think what I said.
Did this.
The opening credits where the.
The Zords were running.
And you hear.
Go.
Power bankers.
They actually do that bit.
Well, she's like.
Real fast.
Just like a 10 minutes.
Stimping.
Yeah.
I remember that.
There's a shot at another robot franchise that happens at a certain moment.
But overall, I really had fun with this.
I did too.
I just took the kind of cheesy battle scene.
But I know they did for the kids.
That's another kid.
Yeah.
Anything else we want to cover for?
We get into the final analysis.
No.
All right.
The way to do the final analysis on this show.
We're not going to give you thumbs up thumbs down.
We're not going to give you three dinosaurs.
And a mega sword.
We're going to do this because our audience.
The empire whom we love.
They want us to go deeper.
We're going to deeper.
Can we roll?
Can we get down?
Two questions.
Question number one is would you see this film again?
The answer is no.
We're done here.
The answer is yes.
Then I want to know how far is it or we want to go to see it again.
Here's the spectrum from best to not as best.

Second one at the dollar theater.
Red box Netflix cable.
Don't.
Would you see this again?
Oh, that's a definite.
All right.
I would.
Recommend this as.
Because I don't.
That's.
Don't have the Greek credit.
That is true.
Yeah.
That is absolutely true.
Poor.
If you're a Power Rangers fan, you got to see this theater.
You name it go.
I will agree with you.
But for the non Greek credit guy like me.
I would say like a Saturday matinee showing.
Not a bad deal.
Yeah.
I would definitely see this again.
I would be interested to see if anybody's showing it in 3D.
I think this might like might look kind of cool in 3D.
What else?
Let me check to see if they're doing.
But yeah.
My other thing is.
And I can't believe I'm about to say this.
I would own this on Blue Ray.
Really?
I mean, this would be one of those.
I hate to use the word guilty pleasure movies for a guy who's in this mid 40s.
But I really really enjoyed this and I would go revisit this from time to time.
I don't think they're doing 3D on this.
Okay.
But you can see there are certain aspects of it.
Yeah.
I could see it.
And again, you put a lizard with banks and just about anything.
And I'm there for you.
Because I'm a big fan of it.
Oh yeah.
Me too.
