But I'm not afraid to say I like to sing, I like the moon and the June and the spring.
I like to sing.
That's a very old cartoon reference for those of you that can go back that far.
But I'm not alone for this particular episode.
Joining me like he tends to do from time to time is the official fact checker of this show.
And a man who likes to boogie.

You may know him as fun, don't go.

Whenever we do one of these, it is to review something.
And this is no exception.
I'm very, very excited to talk about what we're about to talk about.
I'm just letting you know now.
Director Trish Si, who you might know from step up all in.
She's got a couple of okay go videos as well.
She directs the third and final as far as we know of the trilogy known as pitch perfect.
Before we start this whole thing, yes, sir.
We got to thank Marianne, everybody at Sly Fox.
Zee-ee, Zee-ee, Zee-ee, Zee-ee.
Such a fan of everybody there.
Nice people.

Yeah.
Fortunately, I had to miss this because we had to do a little divide and conquer on this one.
Did you do it?
But this is the time that we talk about it.
It is pitch perfect three if you missed the first two.
Well, welcome back from the cave.
This go round, it's the final go round.
The Barton Bellas have all graduated college.
Actually, I never saw the first two.
Man, you're amazing.
But for my tennis, let's take it out.
But the Barton Bellas have all graduated college, gone there, trying to lead their adult lives.
And they have a reunion at a local aquarium because Haley Steinfeld's character,
if you remember her from the second one, she plays Emily.
She's still in college and they're there because the Bellas are performing.
And they decide that they're going to go on a USO tour,
but it also turns into a competition.
And the winner of the competition gets to open for DJ Khaled at a televised deal he's doing for the troops.
Like a USO?
Yeah, what is a USO tour?
Yeah, but yeah, a big, big national thing.
But the difference here is, they're competing against two bands and a hip hop act,
all of which use instruments.
And of course, the Barton Bellas because they're an Acapella group, don't.
So this is a new experience for them.
Everybody's back for this, Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Anna Camp, Esther Dean, Hannah Maley.
Everybody's back for this Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins, of course.
But see, in this one, they're not commentating as much,
but they're trying to film a documentary about what happens to the Bellas after they graduate today.
But you've also got John Lithgow joining this particular film as well.
So I got to go see this, probably, I guess about four days early.
I got to take Charlotte with me because she and I both love these movies so much.
And it is well documented on this show, Anna Kendrick.

How you doing?
So this is, we're going into the final chapter.
I've always amused by these films.
This film is no exception.
I really, really had a good time watching this movie.
It only runs about 93 minutes.
So there's not a lot of length to it.
It moves very nicely.
I'm getting to the point where old man Rob starting to take over,
because a lot of the music that's in this, I didn't recognize.
But it was all great.
Enjoyed it very, very much.
You also have Ruby Rose as a member of the band that they, one of the bands,
they compete against the name of that band is a little bit unstable.
And I'll go let you look that up if you want to.
It's kind of up to you.
But this they go through, this competition happens at a different basis
so they're all over Europe.
And things are what they are because it's young ladies looking for love.
That kind of thing.
This gets a little strange in the third act,
because it takes a very strange turn.
And I don't want to give away too much here.
But the opening of the film constitutes a flashback.
There's the only way I can say it.
And again, I don't want to give too much away.
But the opening of the film, we found ourselves going,
what's happening here right now?
I'm not quite sure what's going on.
And then you find out they've got to go back three weeks to say,
that stories thing, take this story kind of a thing.
It does take a weird turn, like I said, in that third act.
But it does wrap itself back around into a nice neat little bow at the end.
Everything comes back together.
Still a little awkward.
But it works itself out really, really nicely.
The only thing about this thing.
And I think if I ever got the chance to interview a Trish sigh,
the biggest question I would have about the making of pitch perfect three,
would simply be, how many takes did you have to put DJ Khaled through?
Because some of these, some of the moments in this film that he's in,
I looked at Sharla and I was just thinking to myself,
did they film this in Colorado?
Because there might have been some things flowing through his veins.
And DJ Khaled, DJ Khaled, a guy who apparently can't get enough work.
Yeah.
I've invented a new drinking game where if you're watching a live sporting event,
every time you get through a commercial break and you don't see either DJ Khaled
or Peyton Manning, take a drink and I don't think you'll be drunk at all.
Okay.
You know, he's got a new Fox show coming up that he's a part of the four.
He's one of the judges on that.
But it wraps itself up really, really nicely.
And I worry sometimes about people who put their faith in a lot of critics.
And I know that we are critics, so I'm kind of shooting myself in the foot saying that.
But this thing sits, I mean, let me look this up so I can tell you for sure.
The Rotten Tomato Score on this is terrible right now.
Do you think it's just getting by the critics or the...
No, this is the critics score.
Okay.
The critics score right now for Rotten Tomatoes as I'm bringing it up on my screen.
I know it's below 50%.
Oh.
Right now, it's sitting at 33%.
Ouch.
I disagree with that wholly heartedly.
Okay.
Have we become so jaded as a people that if it's not Schumler's List, it's trash?

This movie knows exactly what it is.
It's silly fun.
We've your brain at the door.
Yes.
Go enjoy yourself.
We're kind of a cool thing at the screening we did.
Sly Fox being amazing as they are.
They actually brought in two different Acapella groups that performed in the theater for us while we were sitting there in the chairs waiting for the movie to start.
How cool was that?
That's kind of cool.
That's me.
Yeah.
And this is just silly fun.
It's the best way I can describe it.
It's so much fun.
I laughed hysterically more than once.
Sharla laughed hysterically more than once.
There were times where we just kind of looked each other and went, yep, that's a thing.
Like I said, it gets kind of weird in the third act, but it does work itself out.
If I had one real gripe, though.
And this is kind of selfish.
Oh, listen.
I needed more Hannah Mealy, who plays Lily.
And since you haven't seen the films, I'll have to describe her character to you off-air.
Her character is one of the funniest in all three films.
Okay, she's basically very, very quiet, but the things that she says are just outrageous.
And they don't know what her deal is.
But when she sings, she's fine.
I will tell you that in this, because they have to get passports.
And Sharla pointed this out to me.
Her passport for her address.
Yeah.
Said Area 51, Nevada.
So she'd be like, would she be like related to me?
Um, would it look down?
Vocally completely opposite.
Because she does.
Everything she does.
Okay.
So yeah.
But you want to watch it for her, if nothing else, because she's hilarious in this.
I really, really dug this.
Now, you see this now?
Is CJ right in this one?
No, she is not.
The Atlanta from WWE is not in this one.
She's in the other two.
Neither is Adam Divine.
Okay.
Who was the guy in the second?
He's the front guy that ended up hitting on Rebel Wilson's character Fat Amy in the second one.
Okay.
I'm a big fan of Adam Divine.
But this was more about the girls.
Okay.
Lith Gow was a little weird for me in this.
And I don't, if I tell you more about it, it will give too much of it away.
So I want people to go in this and enjoy it and for what it is.
So I like to Lith Gow.
He's great.
Oh, he's awesome.
He's always great.
For me, it's about the anime Lee.
It's also about the work with Elizabeth Banks and John Michael Higgins.
That's just so over the top that it's just, it's wonderful.
And I was really surprised Elizabeth Banks didn't come back to Derrick.
Because she directed the second one.
I was surprised she didn't come back to direct this one.
But I really, really, really enjoyed this film.
I don't know what people are expecting out of it.
Now question.
Yeah.
Do you think this will be the final one?
It is.
It has to be.
Okay.
Because the way it ends, it ends like it needs to.
And plus the girls are getting older.
So the charm of them being in college and going out into the world.
Okay.
They don't need to do a fourth one.
Okay.
Question.
Yeah.
Is part three in that ice age curse?
No.
I guess that I didn't.
I didn't feel it was watered down.
I thought it was a nice evolution.
Like cars too.
No, not at all.
Okay.
Because the first one.
Yeah.
The first one was about them being in college and competing in college.
Okay.
The second one was about them going to international competition.
The third one is now them taking the use.
So there's a progression there.
Because they go into the USO tour.
But it's just, it's so much fun.
Now some of it you see coming.
Some of the kind of what you see coming.
Like that's a thing.
But there's just so many laugh out loud moments in this.
And it's got a really nice ending.
And the song that they do at the end is one of my favorite songs of all time.
And I'm not going to tell you what it is because you just need to go see the film.
Are we going to go?
No, it's not.
Are we going to go?
It's just so well done.
And you can tell that these girls really do get along and they had fun making this film.
And that makes it even better.
Because they do a montage at the end of just stuff from all three films.
Like outtakes from all three films.
Behind the scene stuff of them clowning around on each other and stuff.
And you know, and Rebel Wilson, it does what she does.
Be Rebel Wilson.
She just says the things that make you go, whoa, that just happened.
You know.
Yeah.
But it's just a really great film.
And coming out in the holiday season.
It's just a movie that you can go and you can have a good time for an hour and a half and leave your brain at the door.
Don't listen to the critics.
But listen to this one.
Go see it.
You know.
Take some time.
It's, you know, there's some adult situations there.
I wouldn't bring the young kids.
But you know, high school and above, I think you'll be fine.
Cool.
You know.

Like I said, in the third act, it gets a little weird.

But it does come back together.
It's PG-13.
So keep that in mind.

We're not going to give you, uh, I can wood anything like that.
Two questions.
Question number one is, would I see this film again?
At the answer's no, we're done here.
But if the answer's yes, how far would I be willing to go to see it?
Full price at a theater, twilight, matinee, for a first run on a weekend.
Go see it.
Maybe second run of the dollar theater.
Leave my house good from red box.
Stream it on Netflix.
See it on cable.

I love all three of these films.
What level are you willing to see it at?
I'm going to go matinee on this.

It's not earth shattering, nor does it want to be.
But it's a lot of fun.
But it's also a fun date movie, too.
Oh, okay.
I would teeter on that matinee twilight showing.
Maybe you go have dinner and see this afterwards.
And just it's a fun, fun movie.
Because sometimes a movie just gets to be a movie.
