and a woman who kicks a little button her own right, because that's how she rolls, she

Whatever we do one of these, it is to review something, and this is no exception.
Jennifer Garner back on the big screen rate to kick a little button peppermint.
Alright, for sure it's this whole thing.

Here's what you need to know.
Jennifer Garner plays Riley North.
Average family woman, got a husband, got a kid, live in the dream, dream in the life,
whichever way you want to see it.
Maybe they're struggling a little bit.
Maybe the husband decides he wants to try to make some fast cash at the expense of a drug
cartel.
Maybe he decides not to, but maybe that's not a good enough for the drug cartel, and they
do a drive by killing both of them, leaving her alive.
She goes underground five years later, after she finds out that the system sucks, and just
this is not served, she decides to go all vigilante on them.
That's what you need to know.
By Pierre Morrell, the guy that directed Taken, and written by Chad St. John.
Not a lot of huge names in this, but one that I saw that I'm very interested in, Wu-Tang
Forever, method man's in this as well, playing an narcotics officer, a little bit of a different
role for him.
I did not get to see this film.
I've been a wee bit busy as the kids say, but that's why I have Don and the General
here, because they did get to go to the screen, and we're going to talk about it.
Let's get into it, kids.
Talk about the movie.
I really liked, sorry guys, I really liked how they did the portrayal of a woman who's
just living her life, and she turns around and becomes this major, I'm going to get
the justice I shouldn't have gotten in the first place.
All right.
And they portrayed it really well.
It wasn't a woman needing rescuing, and it was, I know, suspension of disbelief at
the movie, but it wasn't super hero-esque that all of a sudden she could do these things.
It was five years down the road, and they flash back to show what all she's been doing
to get to the point where she could do this.

He talked about the flashbacks a little bit, and he, I don't know, he, from what I read
from his review, he felt like they didn't go enough into the flashbacks for him.
How did you feel about that?
I could see where some people might want more, because there were some things like using
weapons that they didn't cover, but some of the other stuff they did cover.
So for me, it was enough to be able to follow along.
Was it, you could see it with Don's written review, and he was talking about the heat
doesn't think it filled in enough of the holes in that, but was that, was that different
for you?
I think you had enough of the holes filled in because you're never going to get 100% of
the story unless you're living it yourself.
So it was a little more realistic in that they weren't giving you all the information.
It was kind of like you were one of the people following the news and hearing these stories
and having to fill in some of the blanks.
Don your thoughts on that.
Okay.

I kind of put that, yeah, I did like the plot.
It is that kind of, you know what you're going to get.
You know, but we're talking about the flashbacks themselves right now.
But here was my problem.
This is one of my big gripes of the film was how, she's just this soccer mom, no military
training, no nothing.
Okay.
Five years later, she comes back and she's like, she could be part of SEAL team six.
Not quite.
Not quite.
I mean, if you watch through this film and I put it, the acting wasn't credible by her,
the physical demands how she was able to do that.
But you have somebody who has no military training who could take out a whole crew and
act like she is part of a Navy SEAL with the training of a Navy SEAL.
That's fine, but they needed to show more of how that happened.
Well, she says she's off on the grid.
You see her do some kickboxing at one little, and I think that's, that's, that's the
question we're asking here, where for a general, she felt it was filled it enough for her
to get to you.
But for you, it was.
No, just one little thing.
So she's kickboxing, blah, blah, blah.
And five years later, she has literally, if you watch the action scenes, she is somebody
who acts like she has paramilitary training.
No, not quite.
Or she knew how to use about every gun under the sun on this thing.
She knew about every kind of weapon, and then the style of how she acted when she was
in a gun fight.
This is like a Navy SEAL kind of thing.
Not, not quite, because there were moments where it looked like a close call, and she actually
had reactions on her face like, oh, I didn't know that was going to happen, and well,
glad that worked out.
It was like, she, she looked out in how things turned out to her benefit, because she realizes
after the fact, I could be dead now.
I actually liked how they did it, because they made it more realistic.
I'll say there's one scene with a Pinyata store, how Pinyata, Pinyata, Pinyata, where she
goes to grab a certain person.
And that, if you watch the action sequence, the thing was realistic.
It was realistic, and it's not like you have 100 people shoot at you, and you magically
survive, because you're Mr. Superhero, she got injured in a few spots, spoiler, sorry
about that.
No, I mean, I think they show a little bit of that in the trailer, if I'm not mistaken.
But still, it was realistic where, like in a lone survivor where, you know, these are
Navy SEALs, but they could still get injured and not take on 100 people in destroy them
all by herself without getting escaped.
But if you watch the style in the action of what she did, it showed somebody who had
military training somehow, and I'll show them, it was a kickbox.
So are you saying that you would have liked a little bit more background in that, because
I mean, let's, let's look at a timeline here.
Jennifer Garner is one year older than me.
Yes.
She went off the air 12 years ago.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We don't count there.
I don't like her.
We just don't talk about those films.
But, Jenna was great.
Great acting.
But you're talking a whole different ball game with June.
I was talking for her.
No, she's a great actress.
She's amazing.
And I put her up on the other.
Yeah.
She did some incredible stuff.
She was able to push the envelope physically wise in this film.
And the general was talking about, for her, the fight choreography had a little bit more
of a grounding in it than it would in another type of action film, where you're just like,
you know, here's Steven Segal, and he just broke five guys' arms in five seconds.
Yeah.
Like I said, this was a little bit more grounded, but again, because you have the director
of taking, doing this, which is an amazing film from the actions genre in my personal
experience.
But, let's look, I mean, is it a film that you have that, that suspension of disbelief
because it's an action film, or did you feel that part of that took you out of it?
It, for me, it was that it was an action film, so there's a little bit of it.
But I really like how they did it, because I mean, she's a woman who's lost everything.
She doesn't really care what happens to her.
She just wants justice.
She wants this guy gone, so he can't do it to anyone else.
And they're referring to Diego Garcia, played by Juan Pablo Raba.
Yes.
And there are some nice twists throughout the movie.
So it does help keep you invested in it.
And my little comment about it that I did not put in my written review at www.theclubhousepodcast.com.

Was that it takes place that the original scene, and then when she comes back, it's December.
So there's Christmas decorations.
And so my joke is, is this the new action Christmas movie?
Okay.
The diehard qualifies that qualifies.
I'm just saying.
That's what I'm saying is this is a new, but I mean, and if you like films like diehard,
this is a little more believable than diehard even was, and he was a cop.
But Don, let me just question, yeah, better than kidnap.
I was going to say, suspension of disbelief, I thought she was talking, yes or no, better
than kidnap.
Oh, yeah.
Okay.
Well, at least we have positive yarn in here.
I listened to you all's reviews, so I did not go watch kidnap because I did follow
the clubhousepodcast.
But the film is terrible, but the suspension disbelief is real low in this film, which I got
to give credit to.
It has realistic action.
People get injured.
You're not Mr. Superhero.
It was realistic brutality, and that kind of thing.
I mean, I'll give the action on this great.
And you have to go in this film knowing what this film is going to be.
Right.
You want to thinking kind of film or emotional film that's going to make you cry.
This is not going to be it.
This is going to have some, pew, pew, pew, shoot them up fun, America.
I don't know if I'd go that far, I'm not sure this is America kind of film.
That is because she goes back to America to get her revenge, but she did she ever leave
America?
Yes, she did.
Okay.
She did get her training.
Okay.
Well, at least she got that part going.
There was enough of the flashbacks for him to get that she'd actually left America
partially.
Yeah.
That's in that she was in the kickbox ring.
That's it.
Too many holes for me.
That's where we read the disagree on it.
I respect her.
No, that's fair.
Yeah.
And Don didn't fully hear me say that part of it is is it gave us the perspective of like
someone who's watching these newscasts once they start covering who she is and that she's
getting her visual any justice is they're not going to know all that information.
So it was kind of cool perspective to kind of be one of the ones watching this.
I'll go on.
And how was this woman doing all this?
So it kind of added a nice perspective.
But it had that taken feel in it.
It's as good as taking.

In my opinion, respect and I can't really compare it to taken because in taken it's someone
who's trained and of course it's male dominated for me.
This was kind of cool to have female dominated be in mama bear and going after protecting
what was hers and taken from her.
Of course, taken.
No pun intended.
Don't hold on.

Yeah.
But you know, take it.
It's it's they have those scenes where they catch people they get brutal.
This is trying to find out get the revenge that kind of thing.
So it's the same director.
I saw shades of it.
I really did.
But you know, the acting's fine.
You got some pros in there.
You got Ortiz enough sit on him.
The up and come or John Ortiz plays this exist always this bell.
I got to give it out to the FBI agent any eye on this.
She did a good.
Yeah.
She did a good job.
The FBI agent too.
Really.
Okay.
Gallagher Jr.
Who plays the detective who John Gallagher Jr.
Who is the scientist today and Carmichael.
Kids focus.
Yeah.
We're here right now.
Yeah.
That's what's it.
I'm just spoilers.
Yeah.
Acting's good.
You know, so I, it is what it is.
I had fun with it.
Huh?
Yeah.
It won't make my top 10 of the year.
But it has it's flaws and it has its good points.
It may be in my top 10.
I don't know.
take the mom with me and she she's not always a huge action but she enjoyed it
she's like you know I don't know that I'd pay full price for it but I enjoyed
this I kind of wish your dad would have come too that's like well they had
they can they can go this weekend I tell them to go on Taco Tuesday at
Dalimer there you go but after warning there's some brutal scenes in this
violence comes with it yeah the home scene anything else we don't talk about
against the violent analysis it actually is kind of nice that it doesn't do
any of the romancing or male and females hooking up so it's kind of nice
that it focused so there wasn't a love interest it was a sort of kicking butt
and there wasn't any gratuitous type scenes in it which was nice to have that
it was an action film that didn't have to have that it's not skimpy clothing
for the most part it's it actually was nice to see women represented and then
one of the nice things on the MDIB that I saw was that of course this was
during of course the start of the hashtag me too movement when they started
and Jennifer Garner usually has no problem of you know do what need to do
let's get to the next scene she'll change wherever they actually made her go
into a trailer and they were being extremely respectful about all the
females on the cast as they should give them their privacy let's not have any
rumors any stories coming out of this so that was nice to hear one thing I
liked is how it showed LA there's a lot of skid row in this thing and it's not
the band was about yeah you know this isn't going to rodeo drive or anything like
that this is tent city but this really shows the skid row in the dark side which
I think enhanced the darkness of the film it's like they I think they should have
played out love LA because that's a jab to LA it would have been perfect I
thought on this because it's not we're an L.A. Chamber of Commerce come on down
and we're gonna show the best side of the city ah this really shows there's a
dark side to the big city life and it really shows the skid row well but
shown a lot of the dark side and not being rich and being able to live on the
right side of the tracks and stuff it made this is a tough film of somebody you
that's going through a tough time all right shall we get to file analysis
sure we do the file analysis on the show we're not gonna give you thumbs up
thumbs down we're not gonna give you letter grades numbers punches to the face
anything like that I'm gonna ask these two up to two questions question number one
is would they see this film again if the answers know them were done here but if
the answer is yes then the follow-up question will be how far they're willing to
go to do so best of the best of the worst of the best here's how it rolls full
price to the theater down to a twilight showing down to a matinee down to
early morning on a weekend down to second one of the dollar theater down to
actually leaving the house to go to red box down to streaming it on Netflix
down to watching it on cable general would you see peppermint again yes how far
you willing to go to do so okay twilight showing and again I'll do my I will
probably pre-order this one on Amazon done would you see peppermint again oh
yeah how far you want to go to do so I'm gonna recommend it as a like a
Saturday afternoon or two a second run somewhere in there have fun go see it
have some action see some bang bang pew and enjoy but there's some violence
so don't take the little one yeah absolutely it is Pierre Morelle directing
peppermints or in this whole thing yes sir you got to think Bianca and her best
friends allied in a great a marketing we love our vendors they take care of
us they can see movies before they come out so we can talk to you guys about
