And I really should have slept on the plane because jet lag is not fun.
But I am not alone for this particular iTunes exclusive joining me across the desk.

That's why it's a name of my blog.
Normally when we do one of these,
it is to review something.
And this particular episode is no exception.
Today we are here to review for you the latest film from director John Erick Daudel.
He and his brother responsible for things like quarantine as the pubs so below.
And there was actually a sequel to quarantine they worked on as well.
This movie is called Noiscape.
Lake Bell Pierce Brosnan Owen Wilson are your three main characters in this.
We had a chance to check it out.
And we're getting ready to talk to you about it.
For a weekend, we got to think our best friends.
All I did in a great marketing.
Yeah, we got to think Kelsey and Danielle love for inviting us to this thing.
That's nice people.
Oh, we love the guys. They're great.
So here's what you need to know.
Owen Wilson plays Jack Dwyer.
Dwyer.
Fair enough.
He is a guy from Austin who's company goes under.
And he takes a job with a company called Cardiff,
which I heard and it makes me think of a show called Holden Catch Fire.
That I'm watching right now that actually takes place in Dallas.
Never saw it.
It's on AMC.
Okay.
And so Cardiff flies him to Thailand to take a job,
helping provide systems that are going to provide clear water,
a clean water for the people of that country.
Well, right as he's getting there,
a military coup happens,
which causes chaos in the streets.
And they, the native just start killing foreigners,
especially Americans.
And so now,
and people to do with this water project.
Well, we can kind of find that out later.
I really don't want to go to that.
Okay, but yeah, they're going to kill you.
Okay.
And so Jack and his family, Annie, played by Lake Bell,
and they're two kids who I thought it was interesting
that they didn't list them in the credits.
Yeah, they haven't misuncredited,
but they're on IMDB.
Well, yeah, they're on IMDB.
Yeah.
They're two young daughters.
They've got to try to get out of the country as quickly as possible.
Yeah.
This will, and, you know, Pierce Brosnan, of course,
is in this as well.
You know, I'm a big fan of, because my big James Bond fan.
Don, what did you really think as we get to the,
the storytelling of this film?
What did you think of the plot and everything else?
The plot was a little simplistic, I thought,
because you basically know what's going on.
But just because it's a simple plot,
doesn't mean it's a bad movie.
Okay.
The plot, I really enjoyed,
because I loved there were a few scenes in this,
where I was literally, and I mean, by the word literally,
I mean, literally, on the edge of my seat.
Mm-hmm.
There was some really, really intense moments
that just kept me into this movie.
I never thought this thing dragged it all.
Really, it didn't.
Considering that there was no real big drag moments.
It's an hour 43.
Yeah.
So it's fast-paced, keeps you going.
Of course, they got the stuff at the beginning
so you get the background of what's going on
and everything before the Big Anarchy hits.
Right.
We're going to have a point on.
There were so many times as on the edge of my seat
and one thing that I noticed when we were watching this
and the press screening,
it was so quiet, because everybody was so into this thing.
I thought, that's just my opinion,
that you could tell where the people had popcorn
who were eating it.
It definitely was quiet.
Yeah.
People were like, I thought we're really, really into this.
It's like, okay, that person over there
about three seats is eating popcorn
and that one, because that's all you herbicides
to the movie, knowing what.
Russell, they were just so into this, I thought.
I should have perceived it wrong.
I may be wrong.
No, it's your opinion.
It doesn't make you right.
It's just your opinion.
That's the way I saw it.
For me, the story itself,
I agree with you, very simplistic.
But you don't need to tell a lot of story here
but the problem was, act one goes so fast.
It's just, you blink and they're running
and I'm like, we have to do this for an hour and a half now.
So what I felt like is that they wrote a story
and being the doubtful brothers.
John Eric and Drew.
I want to give credit to both of them.
Yes, we did.
It was like they wrote the story and realized
they didn't have enough story to last for a whole movie.
So they were like, okay, let's just put in a bunch of sequences
where they're barely going to get out by the skin of their teeth
and there's going to be a lot of suspense there.
And I feel like they did that to overcompensate for a story
that didn't develop at a good pace for me.
It was too fast.
Not enough depth.
Do you think?
I agree.
You look at it.
It's really hard for me to say this in a way
that's not going to spoil anything.
But if you're going to put Pierce Brosnan on a poster,
have him in the movie more.
You know, I see your point.
Because when I think Owen Wilson, I don't think action star.
Yeah.
And we're going to get to that here in a minute too.
But Pierce Brosnan, the guy was James Bond.
The guy knows what he's doing when it comes to action films.
He should have been able to do more in my opinion in this.
They should have written more into his character.
And I'm going to say this that he and I see your point on that
where if you notice watching when this film is over,
he's in the film more during non-action scenes than action scenes.
Absolutely my point.
Absolutely my point.
Again, I love Pierce Brosnan.
I'll take any excuse you want to put him on the screen.
If you want to read the phone book, I'm cool with that.
Yeah.
But in an action film,
you have a bona fide action star.
Let him do what he does.
Don't take the guy that was in the internship.
You got us an internship at Google.
And try to make him an action star.
Do you think he's typecasted too much?
No, I just think this was an awful big leap of faith.
Okay.
Because my thing with action films...
Yes, there's the stuff that's going to explode.
And I'm cool with that.
Yeah.
But all of the action in this film
was guys with machetes chopping things
or shooting things with guns.
I need more hand-to-hand combat in an action film.
I need fight sequences.
But a guy like Owen Wilson that doesn't have that kind of experience.
But his hand cuffs you.
His character is not going to be a martial art expert.
Totally get that.
I totally agree with you.
However, if you're going to make him a lead,
don't make him winp boy either.
He's a man trying to protect his family.
And I see that.
And there were scenes where he wasn't a winp boy,
but he was a winp boy more than the knot.
But I could see their point of what he was trying to do.
What if that was you?
What if that was my dad?
What if it was about anybody who is not a skill?
You know, he used to be a special forces
or black belt and karate or something like that.
Getting stuck in a situation.
He had the amount of action.
He needed for that kind of person that they're trying to portray.
But then let me go back to my previous point.
Go ahead.
You've got Pierce Brosnan.
You have to do that.
Let him fight some dudes.
Yeah.
You know.
It just, it, it, it just,
I could see what they wanted to do with it,
but it just never got there for me.
From a performance standpoint,
I thought Owen Wilson tried really hard.
Yeah.
Like, I don't necessarily fault him for this,
but I also don't necessarily give him credit for this.
I liked that he's trying to expand his horizons a little bit,
but I just,
I don't see Owen Wilson action stall.
The mass, the, this question.
And the summer release.
Let me ask you this.
If it wasn't Wilson,
what if it was like Nelson, Liam Nelson,
I mean,
what if it was Nelson?
He's already done three taking movies.
He wouldn't have done this.
But if it was a character like him,
would you have liked it better?
Could you have, would you have felt better?
You would have to tweak the story just a little bit.
Understand?
Because I see why they went with Owen Wilson
for the type of role that it was.
I just don't know that it needed to be that type of role.
That makes any sense.
Okay.
I would have almost been okay with somebody
like the McConaughey.
Okay.
I got that's done this kind of thing.
I think he might have,
they might have been able to do more with him
from a physical standpoint or about Tatum, someone like Tatum.
Chaining Tatum wouldn't have fit in this.
Okay.
I like the guy.
Yeah.
Make no mistake.
He's one of those guys that I should hate as a dude,
but I can't because he seems like he'd be the coolest guy
in the world to hang out with.
But I just felt that,
and the weird thing on the other side of that too,
I thought he and Lake Bell had really good chemistry.
I can't complain.
Oh yeah, I agree with you.
You know, I bought them as a Mary couple.
I bought him as the father of these two girls.
I bought the heart of it.
It just didn't execute like I felt it should have.
Well, give it a segue to the acting.

I didn't know,
I had to give a shout out to the two girls that played this daughter.
I mean,
I really thought that Greer and Jaren's
those two girls really played the part well for what they're trying to do.
They did a great job.
It also is wife.
I mean, sure character.
I like Bell.
Yeah.
Like Bell's great.
She started off kind of just, you know,
arms,
and then she, as the movie goes on,
her persona in her attitude and character changes.
To a more, you know,
this is hitting a fan.
I'm going to be a stronger woman kind of thing.
I thought,
I thought her character really evolved.
That's a play.
She had great evolution that I really think she did,
but it just,
it still couldn't save this movie for me.
But the daughters,
I have to give shout to him though,
because they could play that role so well.
Like that one scene,
which, you know,
she's going to play that role,
but they're hiding out
in that,
after the,
the take explosion,
and now where she has to,
you know,
you know,
you know,
Sam talking about them.
Yeah.
That's probably,
that just really hit.
That's how a little girl would probably
act in something like that.
A standout scene for me,
and they reference this in the trailer,
but the roof to roof scene.
Okay.
They reference it in the trailer.
You see part of it in the trailer,
but I will assure you,
if you see this film,
there's a lot more to that scene than you see in the trailer.
Exactly.
That scene alone,
you know,
I did actually find myself kind of getting out of my seat a little bit
and almost talking to the screen.
Yeah.
That was, I mean,
there were good sequences in it,
but overall for me,
not enough substance.
Yeah.
And it, and it,
and now style over substance,
because even the style,
my expectation of an action film is,
I want to see dudes hitting dudes.
I want to see good fight sequences.
And that's just where my disappointment comes in.
I can't really complain about the portrayals,
because everybody did the best they could with what they have.
Again,
I don't know that Owen Wilson was the best choice for this,
but,
who would you think would be the ideal choice?
Oh, geez.
That's me sitting on the spot,
I don't know what she has to think about it.
But,
um,
geez.

Why are you thinking of that?
I want to bring up the look of the film.
Please, dude.
I thought it was pretty good overall considering.
I thought it really could be.
Yeah.
It showed,
in some of these big cities where they have a nice fancy hotel for,
which is fancy for those cities,
you know,
right next to the slums.
And I really thought it showed how,
right before the anarchy hits,
you know,
Owen Wilson's walking down the street,
just get newspaper,
and how the people are looking at him.
He just felt like,
you know,
it hasn't started yet,
but these people,
like,
just because you're white and look American,
we hate you.
I mean,
at that point,
because of what was going on.
But I thought the look,
in some of these,
you know,
slum lord,
some areas and stuff in the cities and stuff
in the real,
deprived areas,
I kind of like to look at that thing.
I thought it showed pretty good in that part of the film
when it comes to the look.
I think I can answer your question now.
Okay.
Ryan Reynolds.
Okay.
I think he would,
I think he could have pulled off the balance better.
Okay.
But again,
Owen Wilson did the best he could before he had.
Exactly.
So,
yeah,
I mean,
I agree with you.
I thought that visually it worked,
uh,
the predictability factor was through the roof.
Of course.
There were times when I leaned over to Andrew and I go,
yep,
cue this,
cue this.
Oh, I mean granted,
you're not expecting Shakespeare.
Yeah.
But there weren't as many twists and turns as I would have liked to have seen either.
I kind of feel like maybe if they had a couple more days to play with the script.
And maybe it'll be a director's cut of this,
that's better on the DVD.
I don't know.
Anything else you want to put through this?
Not really.
I think I got it all out.
I just got to think our best friends.
We got to be the final analysis.
Oh, can't go ahead.
Well,
of course we always think,
I like it in the great idea.
Because there's some of the greatest people in the world.
They actually act like they know us for more in public,
which is kind of that.
Yeah, that's kind of cool.
They actually, yeah, they acknowledge us.
The way we do the final analysis on this show.
We don't give you letter grades.
We don't give you thumbs up thumbs down.
We don't give you stars.
We don't give you one to ten.
Our audience whom we affectionately refer to as the empire is better than that.
It is a two, two pronged question.
Question number one,
is would you see this film again?
If the answer is no,
then we're done here.
If the answer is yes,
then it becomes,
how would you see this film again?
Would you pay full price set of theater?
Would you pay for it in a twilight?
Would you pay for it in a matinee?
Would you pay for it early morning on a Saturday,
second run,
red box,
Netflix,
cable.
Dawn, would you see this film again?
Oh, yeah.
How far are you willing to go?
I'm going to actually do the two prong.
I would like to,
I'd say it for HBO.
If it's on HBO,
I definitely will devier it.
Okay.
But I'm going to recommend it because it kept me on the edge of the seat so much.
I can recommend it as a twilight.
Because it really, really kept me really,
I thought it is with the intensity and everything on that film.
It had me,
it had me gripped.
You know,
it may not have you and that's fine,
but that's what we have different opinions for.
I can't say that I would watch it.
I would sit down and watch the whole thing again.
Yeah.
But,
if,
if a friend of the show dock wanted to do like bad movie night,
I would sit through it with him with the director's cut.
Just because him and his friends have such a crazy time with bad movie night,
that I think this would be fun to do that with.
So you'd give the rental from movie training company and watch their most.
At most.
Okay.
At most.
DBR when it comes on cable,
and then we want to pay for it when you do watch it on bad movie night.
Okay.
But there were some people that really enjoyed it.
Yeah.
There were a lot of different opinions in that theater.
That's what it really does.
It's mixed on Rotten Tomatoes.
Oh yeah.
We got to warn it's rated our for reason.
Absolutely.
A lot of violence.
There is one intense scene just to be careful of.
And you want to when I'm talking about.
Yeah.
So just keep that in mind.
It's not for the kids.
