And a man who is at least wouldn't Wolverine in his life, you may know him as Fondongo,
but his mom and him, Don Ford, I'm going to call him Don Ford, welcome sir.

There are half the country away.
That doesn't mean there's not Wolverine's in Montana.
That's just where the university is.
No, no.
Wolverine.
No, not in Montana.
We have rock dogs, but not in.
No.
I can't see the paperwork, are they?
Yes sir.
Whatever we do one of these things, it is to review something.
This one is no exception.
James Mangold returns to the director chair after directoring the Wolverine for the third
installment in the Wolverine saga.
It is called Logan.
Probably start this whole thing.
You got your singing voice ready?
I am ready sir.
We have to make our best friends.
Ellen in the Grand the Bar King.
I think Josh, everybody, the whole crew there.
Tanya was there.
We got to see her.
There are some of our favorite people in the world.
Yeah, it was.
It wasn't there, Scott.
Scott, our friend Scott and our friend Raymond.
Adam was there.
We love all of those guys so much.
They're so good to us.
They let us see films ahead of time and they let us review them for you guys for the
Empire.
They're our best friends for a reason.
We love them.
Yes, we do.
So here's what you need to know about this film.
New Jackman.
This is his final time portraying the character of Wolverine because father time is
undefeated.
He's been playing the role for 17 years for going to sake.
And he's like, look, I'm getting old and we can do this one more time.
But then it's time to hand the mandaloff.
This takes place in the year 2029, a few days ahead for now.
Yes.
Where mutants, copyright fox, because you know that they're the only ones I can use
that term in cinema.
Or really, they have the copyright on the term.
Even though it's a Marvel term, they have the copyright first cinematic purpose.
Mutants have been pretty much wiped out.
Everyone else is kind of in hiding right now.
Logan has taken a job as a limo driver in El Paso, Texas, a border town for those
you that don't know, where he works, makes his money and drives back across the border
into Mexico, where he lives in an abandoned factory and is hiding also aging professor
X, bringing back the great Patrick Stewart along with Calaband, who's one of the lesser
known X men, played by a man I am a huge fan of, Steven Merchant.
If you've seen anything that I just lost his name, Ricky's your vase has ever done,
Steven Merchant somewhere.
He's also a co-producer of Lipsing Battle.
He's like, well, the writer's on the office and stuff.
Yes, he is.
The original office.
Steven Merchant.
He's one of those guys.
And I'm a huge fan.
Well, the Revers come calling.
These are basically mercenaries at hunt mutants, because they're looking for a little girl.
X 23 for those of you that are comic fans, played by Daphne Keene, also known as Laura.
And Logan is then tasked with professor X to bring her to North Dakota, to a place called
Eden, which is a safe haven for mutants, they're going to get them into Canada and get
them out of the clutches of the evil corporations.
It's close to Montana, right next to you, yes, it is.
Let me say something very clearly to the Empire.
And I say this in my written review, conveniently located at www.theclubhousepodcast.com,
which is our website.
For people that are saying this is based on the comic series Old Man Logan, I say this
in my written review.
I say this to you now, when they say this is loosely based on it, it's like saying
Godzilla is loosely based on Jurassic Park.
You see the connection, but it's not a possibility.
If you know anything about the Old Man Logan storyline, they Fox couldn't do it, because 98
percent of the characters in it are owned by Disney.
So there's no way you could do that storyline.
As my boss said this morning, as we were talking, the only thing it has in common with
Old Man Logan is he's old, he's a man, and his name is Logan.
That's about where it is.
Now there's elements to it.
There's elements that are in both, but not enough to make a difference.
Man gold actually wrote the story as well.
This is good, it's not great.
It is two hours and 15 minutes, it is paced incredibly well.
And I will tell you, watch meter, 40 minutes, no, hand a gun, that's almost record, you
record.
That's almost a record.
So the story moves very quickly, not at a breakneck pace, but the story moves well
enough that it keeps me interested.
I'm not just like, okay, where is the chase and how can we cut to it?
There's this story moves very well, visually absolutely gorgeous.
The fight sequences are amazing, Daphne Keene does great work in this, I mean, she's
what, probably 9 or 10, I mean, she's a very young lady and does not speak barely at
all in this thing.
Well, first half of the movie, she says nothing.
Right.
Was it first two thirds of it at all?
Yeah, yeah.
Then she starts to, little bit, here and there.
I, what drives me nuts, and in front of the show, friends of the show Kevin

When it comes to Fox Marvel films, you kind of have to grade on a curve, because Fox
has not had the best luck with Marvel films.
This is the studio that brought us X-Men Origins Wolverine, both versions of the fan
tested for.
This is not the best Fox film, but it's far from the worst.
I would put Logan, if you're going to, if you're going to rank all of the Fox Marvel films,
this is the, this is number three for me.
This is third best in the series.
Third only two, my silver medal would go to X-Men first class, because I really enjoyed
that, even though it's lack of continuity will make your brain melt.
Nothing from Fox is going to beat Deadpool.
It's just not going to happen.
Deadpool is the pinnacle for Fox and Marvel.
And then everything else falls in line behind that.
This is good.
Again, it's good.
It's not great.
I mean, you know what you're getting with Hugh Jackman is Wolverine.
I always go back to, was that when we was at night at the museum at three, where the guy
called him, Hugh X-Men.
Patrick Stewart's Patrick Stewart.
They have amazing chemistry together.
They always have.
But they get the characters.
They understand who the characters are.
The only thing that Jackman has that Wolverine doesn't his height.
This is entertaining.
It's fun, but it's not great.
And I don't know if I have preconceived notions of the way Fox has been with Marvel.
But I also couldn't tell you what would make this film great is that that's my other
problem.
I can't tell you what they could have done in this film to bring it to that next level
for me.
And that's the weird part.
Because we're now about 24 hours removed from it when we record this.
I've been thinking about it a lot.
But I don't know what would make it better.
When I put this film compared to the other ones, this film, and I would say this when
I left, one, it's rated our for a reason and be prepared.
Because the very first line of dialogue is the effort.
And I want to talk about that for a minute.
A lot of people are saying, well, this is right in our because dead put no, they were
going for an R before dead pool.
God, it's R.
Let's be honest, this is fact, this is a verifiable fact.
It could have gotten it's R for a lot of reasons.
It is graphically violent.
There is brief nudity of it in the limo.
There is a lot of adult situations.
I felt that the language got a little too much that at a certain point, it was like,
okay, we get it.
And it's almost to the point of shock value.
That didn't bug me too much, but I will say that, you know, it's R for a reason.
Like, before the film started, what did Josh from Aladin and he said two hours and 15 minutes
of blood and guts.
And he was right.
He was right.
So I mean, this one is brutal.
It is very, very brutal.
It's R for a reason.
And I'm fine with it.
And some great kills in it.
Yeah, and I'm, I'm fine with that, especially when you see, uh, uh, Laura get
in the factory.
Yeah, I can call it Laura.
I don't have the Greek credit.
Of course, the apparent knows I am the one without the Greek credit.
That is true, that's 23.
That's 23, that's 23.
That's her, that's basically her model number in the court.
Yeah, because Logan is weapon X or we fight out later.
He's weapon 10.
He's the tenth version of what they tried to do.
All right.
So, given that, my, my thing is, when I watch this thing and I left, and that's
talking to a lot of people when we're leaving and stuff, and, you know, like, friends
of the show, Brian Kruger, fellow critic and all that, oh, I didn't see that he was
there.
It's like, I missed him.
Yeah.
Shout out to Brian.
I saw Marcus in after the film.
Marcus from that nerd show.
Yeah.
Great people.
We love him all.
I, this film was very, very dark.
Oh, absolutely.
It's paired to all the other X-Men, but it needed to be given the subject matter.
When I watch this thing, it's not the big CGI, bright, big budget, we're at the fancy
school.
They have all the money in the world.
This is live in life on the run and it's so, well, be careful when you say not
big budget.
The budget on this was $127, but I mean, we're, the, they have the big budget.
So they have all the money to have the jet and have this school and have all that stuff
and everything else.
You know what I'm talking about?
These guys are short on cash trying to get by and that look at the film in the settings
of the film really show it.
I mean, you're in rundown hotels, but they be cash versus all these other ones, where
it's like they have these patents and they have all the money in the world and they
have the expensive school and all that, you know, you have the fancy uniforms, right?
I mean, I'll get, best example is Professor X's chair.
Yeah.
It's not the shiny chair that you've seen forever.
Yeah.
And where they're, so I mean, it had this real dark gloomy feel.
And you really, I got to give it to Jack, but on this.
Not just saying because I, you know, got to interview him on the right carpet and all that.
That you did, so that you did indeed.
It's on my Facebook page for any of the evil.
Yes.
We got to think outlight for that, too.
That's great.
There's a lot of stuff we've had.
But, you know, this was, this really shows the, what you think Wolverine will live forever
and he gets shot and Elvis in the wound healed within five seconds.
No, he's getting old and this show, this, it's a very dark mood.
It's a very dark time in a, in a film in the look of everything matches that well.
Like those sheets, you know, the shady motels in El Paso.
That's the best point.
That's the best part.
So I mean, it was really, a lot darker, a lot more real life, a lot more on the run.
This is like, life is tough.
It really shows you one of the things that impressed me is they actually address the comic books
in this.
We need just a dress.
That's it.
But that's what I'm saying is like, I can't remember the last time.
If ever, a superhero film, a dressed, it's comic book roots and the way they do
it's really, really interesting and I thought that was kind of a nice little touch.
I enjoyed this film.
But I didn't leave this film going that way though, no, no, no.
I love to go in.
Yeah.
Oh, that was a thing.
One thing I really enjoyed and this is going to be smaller free.
Always is the last scene.
I'm going to do this visually to you visually.
No, yeah.
Yeah.
No, no, I know exactly what you're talking about and it'll be something that not a lot
of people may understand or get.
I interpreted it.
No, you absolutely interpret it correctly because I know where you're going.
Yeah.
But it's a very nice little touch and I thought that really, so it's like, where my only
question is what goes on now.
Did you have to remember, don't this is set in the future?
Yeah.
I mean, where do they go after that point if they go in time order?
You never know.
Right.
But that's the beauty of, they've got plenty of time to deal with it.
Yeah.
But it's definitely, it's a beautiful finale for Jackman and Stuart because you think
it'll ever do a cameo and stuff like that.
He might do a cameo, but not as boring.
I mean, he could do a cameo as Wolverine even for like a, remember that was at the one
where they're, but not if they recast the role.
But going on, I'm talking about, there was that one was the one where they, they, all
the students Kevin Bacon's the, the, the, the, I was first class, first class.
He had like a 10 second smile there.
Do you think he would do something like that?
I don't know.
I don't know.
I think that, I think that he's resolute from where it is now.
Yeah.
And it's a, and again, very nicely written.
Good, not great.
Yeah.
Anything else we want to do before we do the final analysis?
No.
The way we do the final analysis on the shows.
We're not going to give you thumbs up thumbs down.
We're not going to give you letter grades, numbers, adamantium clause.
Nothing like that.
We're going to ask two questions.
Question number one is would we see this film again?
If the answer's no, we're done here.
If the answer's yes, then it's how far are you willing to go?
And here's the spectrum from best to worst.
Full price at the theater, twilight, matinee, early morning, second run
at the dollar theater, red box Netflix, table,
Dom, which is his.
Oh, that's a definite.
How far do you want to go?
I'm probably going to recommend this as, um, matinee or twilight.
OK.
I would see this again.
If you're fan, you got to go.
If you're a fan as the, on, on objective, if you're fan of X man,
you've got to, you've got to see it regardless.
You've got to see it, but I would see this again.
I mean, I'm going to own the blue right because I'm now on a mission where I'm
just going to get all the superhero movies and blue right.
But it's one of those.
I'm going to be at half to be in the mood to see it.
I don't know that I would see it again in a theater.
How would you recommend it then to the people like me without the Greek
it's a solid red box.
OK.
It's right there in the middle.
I would watch it before I'd watch X three again.
I'd watch it before I'd watch X man origins Wolverine again.
But although I enjoyed the second one, I enjoyed the Wolverine.
Both of them, the, the, the James Mangold's, I've enjoyed.
OK, to the non Greek prep people, which even possibly say maybe a second run
or um, I'd still so get it from red box.
OK.
Because my thing with second run is second run theaters.
The sound tends to be pretty terrible.
So I would want you to, to enjoy it in a good environment.
But it's, it's, it's one of, it's, it's good.
I've seen much, much worse from a studio when it comes to the superhero movies.
And again, I think it's a really good swan song for Jackman.
It is Logan.
It is James Mangold directing.
It is the great Hugh Jackman.
It is the great Patrick Stewart.
For instance, we got to think Josh and
and like in the credit market, they're going to use that jingle one of these days.
It's going to happen.
And then I'm going to be very, very happy.
