That ain't it either, we'll figure it out. This is the 424th time we've done this particular version of the show.
Welcome again, my name is Rob, I am the executive producer of the Clubhouse podcast and I'm not crying, you're crying.
But I'm not alone for this, sitting across the desk for me is the official fact checker of this show and a man who I actually got to see his wife for the first time in like a month and a half the other night.
And with her new hairdo, looking great, she's a beautiful, as she always is, you may know it's fun, don't go, but his mom and even don't for it, I'm gonna call him don't for it, what's up brother.
Yeah, you probably got to see the fantastic pay for for the first time in a long time. So I haven't seen her in forever, she even came to me, she's like, where were you?
Yeah, man, these last six weeks have been brutal.
But my wife, she just are here like once a month.
It looks great, you know, that's just her, she looks great.
Whenever we do this, it is to review something and this is no different.
Let's go to Mr. Dan Fogelman, writer, director, the guy that brings you this is us, now brings you life itself.
Before it took this whole thing, yes, sir, we got to think you're good for Brad and your band fonts PR.
We love our vendors, they take care of us and let us see movies and stuff in advance so we can talk to you guys about them so you can spend your entertainment dollar wisely.
Let me just run this cast for you, a few people.
Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde, Annette Benning, Mandy Patenkin, Jean Smart, Olivia Cook, Antonio Banderis.
Samuel L. Jackson.
You ever heard of any of them?

Okay.
All you really need to know is this is about how people's lives intertwine.
Yeah.
That's all I'm going to say in New York.
Yeah.
And around the world.
In Spain.
Around the world.
Okay.
How do I say this?
I love this movie.
It's just under two hours long.
I wasn't sure going in.
I'm not, I don't watch this as us and I've heard a lot of people.
It's very, very popular with people.
Just not something that I'm into.
You know, do I want to watch Sterling K. Brown cry every week?
No, I'd rather watch him kick and butt in other movies.
You know, I love my little vent to me.
I'm a big fan of the Mandy Moore.
Just not into this show.
So as well as hesitant going into this.
Yeah.
I love this movie.
And I don't know.
It's not doing well with critics, which I don't understand.
I don't know if people were expecting something out of this movie that they weren't.
And part of me wonders.
Or is this show kind of follow the formula of this is us?
And I think that may be because if that's the case.
Yeah.
I can see where people would be like this isn't different than what he does on television.
But I don't watch what he does on television.
So I love this movie.
Well, I've seen a few episodes of this is us and kind of had to give it up because
they kind of did the dragout thing.
But it's the same kind of thing where people are, you know, trained.
It's a film version of the show.
Best way to put it.
Of this is us.
I just, I really like this movie.
I like the way the stories told.
There's multiple layers to it.
The cast in this is phenomenal.
Oh, yeah.
Oscar Isaac continues to amaze me.
I mean, the guys got geek right out the lot to see right now.
But his performance in this had me glued to the screen the entire time.
And it all revolves around Bob Dylan.
Bob Dylan is an underlying theme in this film too.
And I'm not a huge Dylan fan, but the songs they selected I enjoyed.
Yeah.
I loved Bob Dylan.
He's an icon.
But this, this movie is so good.
It's a perfect date movie.
Well, for me, I kind of put in my written VWW.

That is a little thing that we like to call our website.
It's that formula of how lives intertwined.
Yeah.
And here's the thing.
We've seen it a lot.
Crash, a doc's purpose.
I mean, it's that formula, even his show.
This is us.
What?
But more, more towards that.
Well, on the drama versus that.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
But here's the problem.
It's just, and I put this in my reunion is that, and I put quotes.
It's just the names and the locations have been changed to protect the innocent.
Okay.
Because I've seen the style of Bill.
Yeah.
I want to put it in quotes.
That it's just, I've seen this formula a million times.
And I kind of saw some of it became predictable to me too.
But I think for me, but don't get wrong.
I mean, acting is good.
But even in the first act itself, because there's like five acts in this thing.
Five chapters, say chapters.
Yes.
Yes.
Acts, chapters, what they call chapters in a film, whatever you want to call it.
Is the first one with Isaac's the big person in the first act.
I'm not really giving anything away.
You know, it's just, okay.
And that kind of got confusing in doing the back and forth, back and forth.
And they did too much of the back and forth.
Oh, yeah.
This, this movie, you have to focus.
This is the kind of film you can't just have on.
You have to sit down and focus to watch it.
So you can because there's multiple storylines going on.
And then certain things happen.
But they don't make sense until later in the film.
But some of that did it by the end became predictable.
And it ended the way I, it's going to end like this.
And this and this.
And guess what?
It ended like this and this.
But for me, it wasn't about the destination.
It was about the journey.
Well, yeah.
Because I've seen a lot of films that try this formula and don't do it well.
Yeah.
This film does this formula well for me.
For me, one, I, I put it, it was too long.
I thought 15 minutes going to be cut out.
I did like the plot though.
But again, and there was some great acting.
Don't be wrong.
The acting in this was really, really good.
But for me, it's just, I've seen it before too many times.
I need, it's going to end like this.
And guess what?
It ended like that.
Boom.
Now, did I hate the film?
No.
Did I love it?
Like you?
No.
I just, it was there.
I've seen it.
Done it.
Acting good.
Got some pros.
And there's no real lead in this film.
If they were to do a best actor.
It would be the best actor.
I don't want to answer that question.
I don't know.
Because there could be a lot of people.
Right.
I'll tell you who I really enjoyed in this as well.
It was Sergio Parasem.
Oh, yeah.
The kid that played Havi.
Oh, yeah.
He's currently on a snowfall on FX.
He is amazing.
Oh, yeah.
And he put my, he got my shout out in my written review.

He hit that emotional guy where he, I put on there.

And as well as the young lady that plays his wife,
Leia Costa.
Yeah.
She, she blew me away as well.
Um, he has a quiet and humble man with a good heart.
He's going through a tough situation.
Yes, he is.
And at the very first time that we meet him in this story,
where he's working.
We'll say he's working.
Yeah.
But when he, when he has, he has a conversation
with Antonio Banderas' character.
Yes.
That scene alone, I was blown away.
The way they interacted was great.
Oh, yeah.
But I think even in that, that situation,
I understand what they did.
And here's the thing.
We got a warning.
The last half of the film,
a lot of it is in Spanish in September.
There are some subtitles.
So don't worry about that.
There's a lot of subtitles in the film.
So if you hate that, be careful.
We're just warning them.
Well, I'm not giving any spoilers.
Absolutely.
Um, yeah, that scene was good.
And I love Banderas.
He's one of my favorite actors.
I love Banderas.
I love him to the, how do you say it?
But, I guess.
And he's a pro.
But there's a lot of supporting, main supporting,
but not a lead actor, lead actress.
But, and they all play their part well.
I mean, the acting was good.
Can I send a shout out to the great Mandy Patanquin?
Yeah.
Of course.
I know I've heard he's a bit of a loon,
but he's amazing in this.
And put it in this film too.
There's a few scenes where all of a sudden boom,
you're like, whoa.
I heard some people, like, oh, come on.
Yeah.
Yeah.
There were definitely some reactions.
Go into this film, spoiler freak.
Yeah.
I will tell you that much.
Yeah.
It's just, uh, yeah.
I mean, Mandy, he's Mandy.
I mean, is this going to be his highlight real film?
No.
I mean, like with, uh, home land,
with criminal minds and stuff.
Like, he's, he's just, he's Mandy in this film.
He's an amazing actor.
And he always, he always do everything.
It's hard for the course for him on this one.
And that's, I hate to say it, but he, he,
he very, very performance for him is, his part.
I agree with you.
But he's, it's constantly amazes me.
So I'm good with it.
Yeah.
I mean, I, I mean, this whole cast is strong.
Oh, yeah.
Don't be wrong.
Yeah.
Man, this whole cast is strong.
I loved everything about this film.
Yeah.
I liked it.
I didn't love it.
Again, it's Crash Part 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 or 6.
I love the interplay with Olivia Wilde, Abby,
and Oscar Isaacs will.
I, I just, there, there wasn't any relationship
in this film that felt forced to me.
I even, and they get very little screen time together.
But Gene Smart, Mandy Patanken,
as Olivia Wilde's parents.
Yeah.
So great.
Everything felt organic.
It felt natural.
That's why I don't understand where the hate's coming from.
And I guess maybe it's because it's people that watch the show
that just feel like this is more of the same.
It is.
I've never watched the show.
So for me, I, I'm like, I love this.
Now it doesn't make me want to go watch the show because
from what everybody talks about, I cry every week.
I don't have that kind of time.
I've seen about, like I said, four of them in it.
Yeah.
You can tell it's the same director.
And I will, and I will tell you.
But I said the top of the show.
I'm not crying.
You're crying.
Oh, yeah.
There were moments where I was holding it back.
Oh, man.
This thing, like, hit you where you live.
They hit me clean where I live, man.
I was just trying to figure out time.
I didn't really get that emotional in it.
There's just so much emotion into this film.
And I loved it.
Anything else we want to talk about?
Forget the final analysis?
I liked it.
But yeah.
I'd still say, I'm still going to recommend it.
Yeah.
The way we do the final analysis on this show,
we're not going to give you thumbs up, thumbs down.
We're not going to give you letters, numbers.
All of us.
Yeah.
Nothing like that.
Ah, lives.
Two questions.
Question number one is, would we see this film again?
If the answer is no, then we're done here.
But if the answer is yes.
The follow up question will be,
how far we're willing to go to do so.
From the best of the best of the worst of the best,
here's what we're talking.
Full price at a theater, down to a twilight show,
down to a matinee.
Down to early morning on a weekend,
down to the second run at the dollar theater,
down to leaving your house to see it on Netflix.
I'm sorry, down to red box, then down to Netflix,
then down to cable.
Done.
Yeah.
Would you see life itself again?
Yeah.
All right.
Hold on.
How far you want to go to do it?
Ah, I'm saying to matinee.
All right.
I did.
Just, I've seen it to me.
It's crashed.
I would see this again.
What a shocker.
I'm going to have to say this.
Full price.
Now, is this in your top 10 talk?
