Well, we're not there yet.
I'm not alone for this particular episode.

The third installment in the Kung Fu Panda franchise.

James Hong.

But before we start this whole debyaco.

Was it that the million dollar man?
I'm not just saying.
What did a wrestler in the evening?
I think the buckle is what you're trying to do.
We got to think our best friends.
Josh everybody at all.
We're in a great marketing.
You guys are amazing people.
We love you.
They had a nice little red carpet area.
We're friend of the show.
John Strange was taking pictures of people.
It was a really big party out in their keys.
Yeah.
There was a whole like karate school.
It came out.
Chad couldn't join us for this.
He was yet a previous engagement that he had to take care of.
But it was a really great atmosphere.
Yeah.
You know, a lot of both.
Theater full of people.
We got to see this in 3D.
Yes.
So basically here's what you need to know.
Po as we know is the is the panda played by Jack Black.
He is now the Dragon Warrior and they protect a valley from anything that threatens them.
And Po finds his father as father finds him.
And if you've seen the original trailer for this, they showed that scene.
Which absolutely destroyed me.
Because Chad, do you ever see them talking about?
No.
Basically his father is played by Brian Cranston.
He plays Lee.
And he sees Paul when posts he's him and he's like, hey.
Hey.
Are you going?
I'm pretty good.
I'm looking for my son.
You have a son?
Wow.
I'm looking for my father.
I hope you find him.
And the animals are just looking back and forth at him.
He's like, okay.
See you later.
He walks away and all the cats are all the animals.
Just face palm themselves.
You scared waiting for him.
Waiting for him.
Big golf.
It's.
And so I was already in at this point.
But this go around.
You do deal with Po meeting his family in a secret panda village.
Because what's going on?
In the mortal realm.
In the spiritual realm.
You have Kai played by JK Simmons.
Because if you're going to get a guide of voice of villain,
let it be JK Simmons.
Burn.
Where he has decided that he's going to steal the key.
From all of the, all of the masters.
So that he could run the mortal realm.
Because he's been banished there for,
where they say like six hundred years.
Five hundred years.
Yeah.
By Ugue, who's the, the old master, the turtle.
The turtle.
The turtle.
So you got that going for you.
I'm just going to dive right in.
Go for it.
I'm not even going to bury the lead here.
And I want you to listen to me very carefully, sir.
Okay.
This is my favorite of the three.
I'm just going to put it out there.
Put it on front street.
I love this movie.
This movie works on so many levels.
Like from the beginning, because you know, it's dream works.
The way they do the dream works logo.
Because you know, they're like, they're like mess with it.
It just starts with ponies running up all these stairs.
And he gets about a two thirds of the way up.
And he starts slow down.
So many stairs.
So many stairs.
And he gets to the top of the thing.
And he jumps onto the moon.
He's like, okay.
I think I can sit down now.
Okay.
And for, I'm like, okay, you have me now.
And it's so well done on this, this movie.
First of all, brilliantly written.
By Jonathan Abel and Glenn Berger.
It tells a story of believing in yourself.
It tells a story of accepting who your family is.
No matter who they might be.
Because there's an interesting dynamic between Lee and Mr. Ping,
who Mr. Ping is posed adopted father, the goose, the goose,
who's played by the great James Hong, who I'm a huge fan of.
And that hand, right?
Yes.
Okay.
And that dynamic is amazing.
And just about standing up for yourself.
And knowing that knowing who you are, which is one of the big themes of this film,
this works for me on every level.
And I kind of like that little resentment that, you know, that he had.
Because he's been the adoptive father.
You know, and I'll have to say these were he's going to,
well, I don't want to be too spoiler, but I really like that angle there.
And I'll tell you what was weird for me is when they build Kate Hudson,
playing maybe.
She is actually a panda who has a bit of a crush on Poe.
Not in it very much.
No.
So I'm wondering if they're kind of setting her character up to take more of the forefront.
Because you know, there's going to be another one.
There has.
Yeah.
But I agree with you.
What she had was good, but it wasn't much.
She was more action than talk.
And the thing, if you take the toll time of that panda being in the film,
half of it, she's not even talking.
And Chad, you're going to firm have to forgive me for asking this next question on it.
I don't ask this question to poke the bear.
But I don't know either of the answer to this question.
Have you seen either of the first two?
No.
Okay.
I know that you have an aversion to Jack Blatt.
That is well documented on this show.
It has been for five and a half years.
I do indeed.
Well, first was present.
Yes.
But let's just, let's just put it out there.
I am of the honest belief that you would enjoy these films.
Because you don't have to see him.
And his voice like, there's a little Jack Blackisms in there.
But it's not to the point of that I think would drive you crazy.
I truly do.
That's what I can't tolerate.
It's just Jack back.
Jack Black being in nobody can talk tonight.
Jack Black being in full Jack Black.
But don't, and I'll post this to you.
I didn't really feel that he was.
He kind of melts into the part for me.
Here's one.
Because I see an authorial.
As I love all three of them, but this is my favorite.
You know it's Jack Black.
But the character is not Jack Black.
You know it's his voice.
But I mean, he's playing with the panda.
He is.
But it's not to Jack Black.
You've seen in some of his whole roles before.
I want to get into a couple of things too, because I know what you're saying.
How much you love this and all that.
I thought the look was really good.
There was something crucial.
Yeah.
It's something we're just done.
Incredible animation on that.
Beyond belief.
I want to go.
Leave and go get some dumplings.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's not from Panda Express.
Yeah.
Here's my question to you.
Same thing.
3D.
The 3D in this.
I would say is worth it.
Okay.
Well, as animation in 3D and Chad, I know you kind of roll with me on this.
When you have CGI animation, the 3D tends to lend something to it.
Yeah.
The depth that it gives just makes it look that much more gorgeous.
And this film really did.
Yeah.
Because when they're composing the scene, they know they're composing it for a 3D film.
Exactly.
They're not doing a post-production effect on it.
Even in credits.
The way the end credits kind of laid out out of the screen, then you had all the
concept drawings in the back looked amazing.
The way this cast works together.
You know, both Jack Black and Angelina Jolie's kids got involved this time around.
Not a lot of Angelina Jolie pit in this, which was kind of surprising.
But I mean the other characters, even like Lucy Lewin's stuff.
They're not voice much.
But there's a reason.
Right.
Partial reason why, which we're not going to get into because we're a spoiler free.
But they're really not too voice.
They probably can have done it all.
I can say that they probably could have done all the recording and probably in half a day.
I mean for like Lucy Lewin.
She goes to studio.
Couple hours later, hours later, she's done.
And the work if you can get it.
And I'm telling you.
The one character that even even if you're watching this, sir.
And Jack Black starts to get to you.
You know who will pull you right back in.
Dustin Hoffman, as Master Sheeper.
I said, I hadn't heard you mention his name.
And I know he was involved in this.
He's the Master.
Right.
And he's so funny in this.
And he's just that guy of like, he looks like a pony.
He's just like, no.
Like the Hoffman in this, it's some of my favorite stuff he's done.
Because he doesn't have to take himself so seriously.
And you know, David Cross plays crane.
He's very funny in this.
Seth Rogan is a prey mantis.
Really?
Yes.
And David Cross, they're kind of like the buddy buddies.
It's very, the chemistry, Jackie Chan.
Jackie Chan's a monkey.
And this is the guy that did Legend of Drunken Master.
Makes sense.
I mean, it's, I loved everything about this movement.
Well, I want to get, you're talking voices here.
There's one thing that I put in my written review at www.theclabaspodcast.com.
That is her voice.
Three times.
Okay.
This is a compliment.
When it comes to Vernon Schillinger.
I call him Vernon.
I'm, I know it's JK.
I'm, I call him Vernon.
Okay.
Something would know him is JJ on a James.
Yeah.
But here's the thing.
I would not have known that was a Vernon.
Unless.
He really kind of beefed it up a little bit.
Yeah.
Which also no point in time because his character is like a, it's an ox.
Yeah.
But I mean, I've seen him in so many things.
And I watched every episode of Oz some multiple times.
That I know Vernon's voice.
But man, I, if I didn't know he was in the movie,
I would not know that that was him.
And that's a compliment.
Oh, yeah.
Absolutely.
You know, you know the checkback.
But, you know, that one, that's a compliment.
That's a big compliment.
That's a big compliment.
Another Randall duck Kim, who said you would know.
He plays Ugway, who's like, again, he's the turtle master.
He was in John Wick.
He played the continental doctor.
It's been a long time since I watched that movie.
And he was also in, he was the key maker in Matrix Reloaded.
He was a guy that stitched up in the hotel.
Yeah.
Very, he's very, very good in this.
Like, I was sucked into this thing from the first frame.
Like, I was just, I loved this movie so much.
And it's the second year in a row that a family film has been released
in January, which we all know is a dicey proposition.
But apparently not for family films.
Because two years in a row, with last year being patting 10,
this year being Kung Fu Panda 3, that I loved a family film that was released in January.
So we can't always put a, put a bull's eye on January releases so much.
And don't get, I like this, but I don't know if it was my favorite,
because they're so different.
It was good.
Oh, no.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I'm not, you know, downplaying what you say or anything like that.
It's just hard for me to pick a favorite, because they're kind of like,
apples, orange, to pair.
I agree.
But I just, there's nothing about this movie.
I didn't absolutely love the voice casting was amazing.
The, the direction was amazing.
The story was amazing.
This is, again, I, I would challenge you certainly at least watch the first one.
Okay.
And let me know what you think.
Okay.
And even if you're marginally into the first one,
I will then recommend you the second one because they do get better.
And Kung Fu, the original Kung Fu Panda, I loved it.
And I thought the second one was even better.
I think this one is absolutely amazing.
And I think on the plot, you know, this is good for the entire family.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
And there's not, they don't have to resort to the adult humor.
Yeah.
Then it's easier cellular material.
But it's as if the dude complicated for the young kids.
Not at all you thing, you know.
Now I will say, when they Subscribe, gee, they do describe it as, the thing that
binds us all together.
And I was like, isn't that the force?
I just a question about that.
He's been a lot round longer before the parties, which I'm sure
of Dreamworks is good.
Don't say that word.
But again, I could not love this movie more.
I truly, truly, couldn't.
It, just, it's so good.
It's going to be a great film for the entire family
me to go see and everybody's going to leave with something they're not going to be bored out of their
skulls. Well, you don't get much of a chance because it's only 95 minutes. But all around can't
complain. Question. Well, we'll get after we do the thing. But before we do this whole thing again,
we have to think Josh, our best friends, allied in 20 century fox providers. Yes, thank you,
guys so much. Even Hunter, the battle cats is here. He's very interested. He's riveted.
See now. You mean to what we do? Oh, yeah, that's also dream work. So, yes,
the way we do the final analysis on this show. We don't give you thumbs up thumbs down. We don't give you
rankings, letter grades, anything like that. Our audience whom we affectionately refer to as the
Empire, they want to go a little bit deeper. So, we will. Two questions. Question number one,
is would you see this film again if the answers know that we're done here? If the answer is yes,
I want to know how far we're willing to go to see it. Well, you see it full price.
Twilight, Matt and A, early morning on Saturday, second run the dollar theater,
wait for it at red box, stream it on Netflix, watch our cable. Don, would you see this one again?
That's a definite. How far? I'm going to do for the family,
either Matt and A or Twilight 3D. Okay, yeah. Fair enough. So, either didn't
Matt and A or do the Twilight then go to dinner after with the family. I'm going to agree with you.
Yeah. And that's not an indictment on the film. No. If I needed to pay full price,
I totally would. But I think it's good, you know, go to it, go to a Matt and A and then go grab
dinner afterwards and then go have a great family evening together. This is a perfect way to start
a good family Saturday or maybe a school holiday that the kids have or something of its ilk.
Or spring for the top of theater that serves a full, full-blown meal in the theater.
You know what? I'd be okay with that. Okay. I, I, I, here's my question to you.
I know it's only January. Do you think this made me an honorable mention or possibly?
I know it's January. Paddington did. Okay. That's all I'm willing to say right now. Paddington made
my top 10 last year. There's a light in that for you. It just, I loved this movie and I would go,
I would go right now and watch it if it wasn't the school night when we were taping this.
