And a man who has probably shot a gun in the open woods more than anybody I know because
he grew up in them.
You may know him as Don Ford, actually my known as Fondango, but his mom and him, Don
Ford, I'm a calm Don Ford.
I gave him the nickname, and I still can't get there, right?
Yeah, I thought a shot of a few guns in my life in Montana when hunting once.
I mean, it's not a stereotype.
It's true.
It's true.
It's true.
Yes, it's true.
Wherever we do one of these things, it is to review something of this particular episode
no exception to that rule.
It is time to talk sequels.
As returning to the director's chair is Chad Stahelsky.
I'm sure I got that wrong.
And the coldstads, bringing back John Wick for the appropriately named John Wick chapter
two.
They put a lot into that title.
Hey.
But keep that mind.
We have to fake Austin and everybody at Slyfox, seeing it Zinny, Zinny, Zinny, Zinny,
Zinny, Zinny, you got to take such fans in those guys.

And you can just get ready because we're going to talk about this movie right now.
Of course.
About three years ago, maybe closer to two and a half, about three years ago.
The first John Wick was unleashed upon the world.
And people, I mean, and I was one of them, you would see something with Kiana Reeves'
name on it.
You're just like, uh, as an assassin.
At some point, you're just getting ready here.
Whoa.
Yeah, I think Bill went dead and all of a sudden.
What do you think of Neil as a matrix?
See, you got you.
But that's been a long time.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But better part of 14 years in the last matrix film are 11 at that time.
And so I didn't see it theatrically.
And people can tell me, dude, you're going to like this movie.
Oh my god.
You know what?
What time?
So finally, in front of the show, Scott Jackson rolled up on me and said, dude, here's
the DVD.
Take it home and watch it.
And then bring it back to me and you're done.
So I took it home.
I was like, all right, I'll put this in, you know.
I mean, I'm not putting a whole lot of stock in this.
For the next couple of hours of my life, my mind was blown.
I was like, this is this is the movie key I already should have made years and years
years ago because he can go out there and kick butt and not say a lot and this movie
is amazing.
You don't think of an excellent adventure.
You think of, well, this guy could actually play the role of the assassin.
So it's revealed after the film is released and starting to do well that it will be part
of a trilogy.
What's a trilogy?
Yes, it is.
I mean, oh, not happy.
The second part is the middle chapter, of course, takes place shortly after the end
of the first film, where he's finally still trying to retire, not in a Danny Glover
lethal weapon kind of way.
But he's in the assassin and he just wants to live in normal life.
He wants out the business.
He lost his dog.
Got a new dog.
Yeah.
Dog has no name.
Don't know who the dog's name is.
Dog.
Lost his wife.
So he's still kind of dealing with that.
So he settles up with it's kind of just wrapping up the end of the first film.
Yeah, the beginning of this one.
Kind of puts it.
He wants a home and he wants to just chill.
So finally, it's the first chapters taken care of, he goes home, time to take care of
all the weapons puts the foundation, concrete back on top of it, time to play that trip
to the crew or VG yet to take a trip on.
Let's take a trip somewhere.
Not so fast, my friend.
Hold on.
Boom, boom, ding dong.
So John goes the door, finds the Centino Dentonio, played by Riccardo Smascio,
I can't even say this, Scamarsio, that's probably as close as it's going to get.
Yeah.
Who he has, what they call a marker in the assassin world, where you basically say,
I'll do something for you, but you owe me a favor and I have this marker that has
your thumb print on it in blood that says we're going to do this thing, that you owe
me.
Right.
So he shows up to catch in the marker and John looks like, no, dude, I'm really trying
to not do this.
Please don't please don't.
Please, I don't want to.
I respect you, but please don't.
Since he knows not one to take no for an answer, not happy.
And with some coaxing, John decides, okay, let me just do this one last thing
and then I'm out, because like the character by Ian McShane of Winston says, hey,
there's that code.
Yeah, you have to follow the code.
The great Ian McShane, you know I'm a huge fan of it.
I was in deadwood, of course.
And that's as deep as I want to go, because if you go any deeper, I think that you're
going to give away too much.
We know he's got to go to Rome to handle this thing and then the wheels just fall off.
I'm going to say, watch out multiple, you think, and thank you.
Yeah, don't try to say double cross double triple quadruple cross.
Yeah, there's just a lot of lack of loyalty going on.
Exactly.
I'm not even a bit, let's just say it up front.
I love this film.
So high.
All, I was like at any point, because this is a solid two hours.
Yeah.
I was like at any point.
I feel like Chuck Norris is going to show up, like it really made me think, and this
is only 20 minutes longer than the original.
So there's not much of a run difference, but like it reminded me of the old school 80s
action films where you have a guy out there, he's kicking butt, he's taken names, doesn't
have a lot of dialogue, he just does the thing.
And it was shot gorgeously, fight sequences are amazing, and had the same look as the
first one.
Oh, absolutely.
That's what I really put that in, of course, it's the same director, and so the same
writers.
Yeah, same look, same feel, same everything.
And the thing about the director on this, this is only a second film.
His first film we only directed was John Wick.
So these are only two films that he has directed, nothing else.
He's been a stuntman, he's done all this, you know, been in a lot of films, a lot of parts,
but when he comes directing.
Hey.
If a broke.
Yeah.
No fix it.
I mean, feel in look as the first one, which I really didn't enjoy, so that the,
here's the thing which I kind of put in review also is that when it's during a day
time, it's cloudy outside.
It's never sunny outside.
Really when it's during a day, time, really.
Secondly because it's not as life for him.
I think that's the reflection.

I just, this movie knocked it out on every front for me.
thought that it was just so over the top in a good way, like how many times during this film
did you just go, you know, like, and then you've got some new characters involved in this,
like John Leguazama shows back up, you talked about Ian McShane, you've got Ruby Rose also being
featured in Redic, don't forget about Redic playing that. Yeah, Lance Redic coming huge fan,
and that's foreshadowing, if you're waiting for my next list coming up, that's foreshadowing.
Okay, Ruby Rose, who's currently in the resident evil film as well, she plays kind of
centino's right hand henchwoman, if you will, doesn't say much, doesn't have to, this is
you know, she's a mute, but common, who am a huge fan of, he didn't get in this, I'm a big fan of
the common, and I'm totally lobbying when they finally get this green lantern thing,
he needs to play John Stewart, and I've been saying it for years, and I will not stop this fight.
But he plays a bodyguard, which is as far as I'm willing to go, he is excellent in this. Yes,
and then you have the Larry Fishbone. So he's calling back in the day. The great Lawrence Fishburn,
who you know what you're gonna get? He did not disappoint. He's one of those guys, and I said this
in my written review, conveniently located at www.theclubhousepodcast.com. I think that's our website.
That, like, he choose scenery and you don't care. Like, if he's not in a scene just chewing
all the scenery, you're almost disappointed. But that's, because that's what he does, and he does it
well. I mean, for any of the show, Jim Briggs was my plus one for this, and we talked about just,
Fishburn was his own topic, as we were walking to the car the other night.
I just, if you, if you're looking for something that's just an absolute just adrenaline rush,
leave your brain at the door. I'm here to kick button chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of
bubble gum, kind of films. This is, I mean, the movie characters are brought in, like common,
like Fishburn. They, they really add to this. It's not, uh, and also I put my, my shout out
goes to Ruby Rose. She was off. She was off. She was off. She was off to say a word, but didn't need to.
And another one of my favorite actors, Pierre Sara Finowitz, the Somalia. Okay.
Huge fan, and he's great. He's in for like 30 seconds. Yeah.
And of course, it ends setting up what will be the third chapter. Very nicely. Yes.
There's just nothing about this film. I didn't love. I, here's the thing. I started with the

What a shocker. I put on their sequels. How many times is, do they make the sequels? That's a
true. That is true. It's a rarely rarely a handful of times where it can paint the sequels
better than the original. And you cited aliens as your major example. Yeah. One of them.
Are you a bias there? All right. But okay. I'm just saying though. Don't get me wrong. But
it's so rare where the sequels better than the first time. Like Godfather 2 Empire Strikes Back.
That's kind of the list. But then you look at Ghostbusters Part 2. So I like Ghostbusters 2.
But not I enjoyed not better than the first. And this one I actually liked a little bit more than the
first. I say that. But I may need to go back and watch the first one again. Because it's
been a while since I've watched it. I may need to go back again. I know there's a local theater at
the night that we record this. That's actually showing them back to back this evening. Cool.
Which is, you know, I mean, because they're both good films. They're both enjoyable films.
It's, I don't think it's as good as the first. But it's very close. I'm, I'm, I'm not mad that they made
it. Unlike some of these sequels, which are just one. Well, for me, I liked that there's a little
bit more story to this. Because the first one you didn't have to have a story. Guy Robzin
kills his wife. Kills his dog. Kills wife. Do not kill his wife. A kill the dog took the car. Yeah.
Revenge. There you go. You don't need to, you don't need to do a library. But it was a great
great way. This one, the story is a little bit deeper and a little bit more complicated. And I
liked that because it shows the evolution of the story personally. For me, I will say you don't have to
see the first one to see the second. But it's a better that you see the first one.
A great because there are a couple scenes. Like, I'm going to say is the weapon used in the bar to
kill three people. Well, he does it again. That's all. It does come back. And they mentioned that
in the beginning of the film as well. Yes. Yes. And then it happens. You're like, yes. Yeah.
Yeah. You get to that scene and you just see that they got, you know, oh, no, it could come from
this. This will not end well for anybody on the screen right now. And it's so, the, the fight
scenes are so fluid and everything moves so well. Like, the climax, fight scene takes place in an
art installation in New York, but they wind up in like a hall of mirrors, which was even cooler
for me because I'm always a big fan like it entered the dragon. One of my favorite movies of all
time when you have the mirror fights where, you know, is it the reflection? Is it really the person?
I love that. And I think about this film so many times they have those action films where the
plot just suffers. No, it's a good mix of great action with great storyline. I agree fully
in a hard time. I think they balanced those very well added in a little comedy. I mean,
the Lagazano, he's only in there not not too long. Not this one, but he wasn't in much in the
first one either. But I like what was our mom. He's so, so, my, but he still did the kind of
partner. Hey, I'm still here. He's only, he's only in two scenes. Two scenes. Just a scene in a
half because the other scene like he just did it that long. Yeah, but still, but still, he made the kind of
point of returning care. Yeah, I just like the whole fix it. Yeah. That's all, but it's not
what I'm going to say when these were very doing just the reaction of fix it. I just thought a
little bit that plot make it a little complicated. I'm going to warn you on that. It did more than the
first one. So that might, you have to, there's a few times where you really have to pay attention.
So I won't want to empire on that. So that's kind of a little minor down, but not bad. And the other
thing is this is two hours that kind of fell in like two hours. But you didn't ask me the question
when it pertains to that. What's that? Oh, you're watch gauge. Watch meter 35 minutes. Okay. We were a
quarter of the way done like this movie moves. Make no mistake. Like at one point, I leaned over to
Briggle. And I went, dude, we're halfway there. And he, his eye got his big around his back
gloves. He's like, what am I going to do? We're now in. And he was like, whoa, the plot of the
second one really enhances or adds to the first one. Agreed. And it really keeps that storyline going.
What's kind of like where the writers are just trying to haphazily do something. No, they put
real thought into the story. And it's not like, okay, here's such credit sequence. No, it's
some entertainment. Here we go. Like right off the bat, we're in a chasing. And it's
pedals to the metal here. We go for the next two hours. Put your seat belt on because it's on.
Yeah. And it really shows the the code of honor in the working world. Yeah, and it's coming
to me. But Shane's character does a couple things where it's like, no, it's not signed. You know,
he used the real law enforcement on both ends. You know, I mean, I really see that code of honor.
It's just, you know, it's that one scene. You're like, please don't do it, John. Please. He's saying,
please don't do it. He's like, oh, no. It's just like, well, it's like there's a scene with
he in common where you see how like they stick to a code because they don't realize where they are when
they're reminded they're like, okay. Yep. Oh, yep. There enough. Let's have a drink. Yes. That's
something to say. Is there anything we want to talk about for we get to the final analysis here?
Not really. I think we got it all the way. We do the final analysis on this show. We're not going to
give you a thumbs up thumbs down. We're not going to give you, you know, five bullets or whatever.
Our audience whom we have affectionately refer to as the Empire, they want us to go deeper. We're
going to go deeper. Two questions will be asked. Question number one is, would you see this film again?
If the answer's no, we're done here. But if the answer's yes, let me give you the
spectrum that we use from best to worst. It's how much you want to pay. So we go from first run
twilight, matinee, early morning, second run at the dollar theater, red box, Netflix. And the
reason Netflix rings below it is because you don't have to leave your house. Yeah. And then cable.
So Don, would you see this film again? Oh, that's a definite. I will. How far you want to go?
I'm going to recommend this is either a twilight or close to the full price. So you're right there
on the air. I just can't get the company because I had to follow that. I thought the plaque had a
little too complicated. And it did seem a little long, but not bad. So it's just a minor things,
but very, very close to coveted. And not because the first, but a dang close, very good.
I think the marketing here is great because they're opening it against the Lego Batman movie
and 50 shades darker. So there's something for every demographic. Go now, go again, take your
friends. I don't care how many times you have to go see this. What's yours? I don't care how you
go. Go now. So you're right now. You can come back. Yes. Okay. I would it would not hurt my feelings
at all to pay full price to see it again. Yeah. Like, no, already having seen it, I would not have
a problem dropping full price to see it again, especially at a place like we have locally here called
the Alamo because you know that pre-show is going to be amazing. So what a regular thing.
Real love it. Yeah. And my plus one, she really really is. I mean, it's everybody in that theater
loved it. Well, I had pressed people sitting around me and we were kind of talking back and
forth that I could hear them reacting and this stuff that I was reacting to. This movie is just a
lot of fun. Oh, yeah. You know, and sometimes you need those movies where you just leave your
brain to door. And as I said in my Facebook posts, as we were waiting for them to start,
stuff's going to explode. Yeah. And that's what you want. And that's what you get. This sequel,
they did this sequel. Right. They really did it. And I'm ready for chapter three. So
am I. And I do it right now. Please do it right, though. And Chad, hold, if we get the same director,
I'll be happiest could be. It is John Wick chapter two. Probably in this whole thing. Yes,
