My name is Rob and I am the executive producer of the Clubhouse podcast.
That just means I get to push a lot of buttons.
Literally, I'm figuratively.
But I am not alone for this particular episode.
It is our 87th iTunes exclusive.
Because I have to rely on the other people in the studio for this episode.
First of all, we go to the official fact checker of this show.
And a man who plays follow the leader a lot, especially when he was a kid.
You may know him as fun, don't go, but his mom and even don't
fort up on a calm, don't fort welcome sir.
We played once we had thumbs up in school where he had put your head down and put your
head down and he had to guess who.
We called that seven up.
Oh yeah, seven up there.
Yeah, we played that.
And you had to figure out who it was.
Yeah, you always had the kid that would peek and look at the shoes.
Also, the joining us is a man we know is the king of bowling.
And he'll follow one strike with another.
That's why he's the king of bowling.

How did you do in dodgeball school?
So it's your the king of bowling.
I was very good at dodgeball.
We called it bombardment.
We never called it dodgeball.
Interesting.
I heard about dodgeball.
I was like, let's just bombardment.
But some people play it by dodgeball in a circle too, where we played on sides.
Yeah, we played side.
It's a cultural thing.
Yeah.
Also, when we do one of these exclusive episodes, it's a review something.
And this is no different.
Although I'm just going to kind of facilitate this.
When we're reviewing a movie that I have not in the opportunity to see.
It is from a brand new director by the name of David Robert Mitchell.
It is called it follows.
Run run times about an hour 40 on it.
And your INDB description is after a young girl gets involved in a sexual confrontation.
She is followed by an unknown force.
Do you want me to do the lead in on this one?
I'll be family friendly.
Okay.
Okay.
First up for a weekend.
We got to think Ashley and our best friends of that like.
All in a greater market.
They're just so they're a lot better than us.
They have.
Exactly.
We love those guys.
Basically it's about a story named.
Sorry.
It starts off with a story with a girl named Jay Hype who's played by Mike Amuro Monroe.
She's a 19 year old and college.
You would know her from the guest, from Labor Day, from the Bling Ring as well.
Exactly.
And she meets up with a guy named Hugh who's played by Jake Weary.
Okay.
And she's kind of falling for Jake.
And they start kind of dating scene.
He seems there's a couple of things that seem just kind of weird about it.
But finally they get together as we could say to be family friendly.
And they'll, exactly.
They'll say get together.
And after they get together, cuddling.
He basically, he basically ethers her.
An oxurotentizer to a chair.
And tells her that you are now cursed.
And basically what happens is there's this evil force team.
And that's in the human form.
And the human form can change from person to person.
Yeah.
That's the easy.
And there's any spoilers.
Oh, no.
I mean, but basically this demon is chasing after that person.
And it gets a hold of that person.
Basically that person dies.
And so the only way you could pass on the curse.
Is that you give it to someone else by getting friendly.
Like, like, what was that movie that Denzel washes it following?
That Denzel washes it into with John Goodman.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Where it was like the spirit of a serial killer.
Yeah.
And the spirit just passed from person to person.
And so okay.
Fair enough.
And when you get together with that person, you pass the curse to them.
But if that person dies, then that curse comes back to you.
And keeps on going back up the line.
Okay.
Fair enough.
So that's the base of plot of the story.
It's trying to survive this demon.
And it's constantly walking towards you.
So if you get in the car and speed out, you know, that's fine.
But it's still going to be coming after you constantly.
It's just like drive as far as you want.
I'm going to catch up sooner or later.
Exactly.
All right.
So that's just the movie.
Don gave us the just of it.
And you let's start with you.
What did you think about the storyline?
A little bit better than what you'd expect out of that type of movie.
Is this is this more shock horror or is this more suspense horror suspense?
Okay.
Fair enough.
You kind of go along with a nice role.
And then all of a sudden it just hits real tense and then it super tense.
And someone looks up out the window and they're like freaking out.
Oh my god.
Where am I going to go?
What do I do now?
Was for you was was there a lot of gore in it?
Or is it just more about just the scares?
It was more about the scares.
Don't gore came at the end.
I agree with him.
It's more about the scares and everything.
Okay.
First up on the plot.
I got to give it to him.
I never seen something where the curse has passed on.
The curse has passed on this way.
I've never been can't recall him.
Four horror films like this.
Okay.
So I kind of like that plot into it.
Because a lot of basic horror films there basically simple plots.
But from there the look of the film kind of had that older gritty independent
kind of look on the on the grand house,
like Jack Ryan had.
We can see on there.
we're just fine kind of that low budget feeling but that still like you look at the
Texas chainsaw massacre that had that grind house low budget looking still is one of the
great store films of all time um but i have to say on this on to the movie where they try to
scare you yet there's some gore near course this film is not for the kids or anything like that
i thought and i put this on on my written review which is at the club us podcast.com that's our
website is that they overdue it on trying to sell the scary moments i thought with overbearing music
okay a lot of films what makes that scary sounds is the background sound you watch
paranormal activity by yourself on a DVD which i will not do yeah who cares but you watch any
theater with a bunch of screaming which i also will not do yeah then that's kind of a different story
you didn't even seem to hear a lot of these scenes are made by the background music i do think it's
interesting i'm looking at some of the trivia on IMDB and it says the film's concept derives from
a recurring nightmare that the director used to have really okay where he would be stalked by a
predator who won't continually walk slowly towards exactly and that's based the basic clip plot there
so i think on a bad side i hated how they tried to push the scare i did not watch you think they tried
to force it yes okay that fair enough my problem Andrew your thoughts there the force scare came
to me he came more towards the end of the movie but the i guess the last act um throughout
throughout the rest of it you could kind of see it coming to say some big predictability yeah
there was predictability yeah and then i think they reala he realized like oh wow i've got
i've got to wrap this movie up and and i thought it has to happen and i'm not ending i hated the ending
it just kind of like what that's the ending are you kidding me that's my my feeling i was order
those of credits roll did you win so that happened yeah exactly you're good fair enough
fair enough so i didn't not like actually i'm not surprised at that ending because what better way
to set it up than maybe there could be a story to the second part or part two they're trying
to be part four yeah yeah yeah i i was not too impressed i thought i'd with the scare on this
at all unfortunately i like the concept i thought that's kind of interesting but i think they push
the envelope on you too hard to me to me the movie got really uh it really drew me in when i saw
the actual power that the the follower had or it or the demon i could demon oh yeah i thought i
still thought that it was really awesome when it just you know there was some good acting in it
uh the girl played jade height uh mecha mero uh and guy played Paul played by uh cure uh guy
kill crest i mean go crest i thought i thought they didn't okay for the role for what they were
doing because when she's getting freaked out and being chased and everything like that i thought
she hit a pretty well on that on on playing that kind of fear and everything like that okay
i did they really sell the characters for you now was it okay so it was just more they did a
good acting job but you weren't really bought in fully yeah i could say this because it was mostly
a bunch of basically it's j and her brother sisters and all that and the other guy and that's it
and they're kind of you could tell it's kind of new acting i thought yeah you know yeah i mean you
could tell that they were pretty close like friends and family just because the fact that they
spent there was good chemistry yeah okay fair enough but you know you could tell that was part of
the writing oh yeah well let's also talk about Mitchell's direction do you feel that he shot the
film well enough because you said it had a good grindhouse field to it yeah did he shoot his film
in a manner that you found acceptable the look i thought was fine for what it is because it is
kind of a small independent budget kind of film you could say it's not going to be you know given
the budget of you know age of all trying and stuff like that right um i thought he kind of did
not hit the mark because i mean it's in it's set in neighborhoods and stuff like that
look there's a lot of directions in the film where i thought really they're doing this now
all they're doing that now and now you're trying to scare me you're doing a bad job okay
to me i had a problem with it at first his direction because i didn't understand if these kids were
in school and high school or college or if if they were just dropouts just fumbling around
head all this free time or was it spring break i had no idea yeah there was no depth into the characters
really okay and the problem is they always talk about the mom you never saw the mom
never saw her mother right no it's your mom we're gonna get my you never see her here from her and
it's like she's supposedly there but you never hear to see her nothing it's like why you been
talking about mom and where is mom yeah exactly maybe all these untouchable points where the
are gonna be part of the second film if there is a follow-up and the thing is i hate to say this i
saw some of these trellars saying this is scariest movie that they've seen in the last 10 years or
whatever i saw i thought hey this might be cool i did not see that i did not see that that's actually
on the one sheet one of the most striking american horror films and years and that comes from
something called the dissolve which i'm sure is a a website of film yeah i see how they carefully
were to that one of the most striking but there's some other there's some other ones on there that
you know saying you're like some fame gory is saying hey this is a very scary movie you're ready to be
scared it's like there's some movie moments where they tried to make you jump and stuff and it's
just like you're ready you're ready okay you try to make me jump to predictable and those kind of
scare moments all right are we ready for the final analysis or no let's go forth before we do
yeah the dissolve is a website based out of chicote yeah yeah there's there's been a couple
things it's kind of like i hate to say this compare this but remember under the skin and some of
those great critic minds yeah i kind of got that feel i get you exactly i'm with you but again
because we don't get to me horror films and actually even talked about that that it's kind of good
to get the screen to be able to see a horror film yeah so again we gotta think Ashley she was you know
very confident that's it i wanted a great exactly you know thanks for letting us see the same
all right so let's get to the final analysis the way we do the final analysis on the show we don't
give you stars we don't give you writer grades or numbers or thumbs up thumbs down our audience who
we refer to as the empire is better than that what we ask is two questions question number one
is would you see this film again if the answer is no then we're done here but if the answer is yes
then how would you see this again would you pay full price for it would you wait for it and then
twilight and that night early morning second run would you read it for red rocks would you just
stream it on Netflix would you wait for it on cable don't let's start with you would you see this
film again no i will not recommend it in it can make a list that's on going to say fair enough yeah
Andrew would you see this one again yes and one circumstance is when you're with your uh your
girlfriend or wife you're waiting so never get another lady for it's written it's a bit of another
correct yes thank you never get another yes and i would do like a red box and just have some popcorn
turn off the lights and because it's a perfect excuse for the girl you know to kind of cut
all up with your girl or you know what's coming exactly yeah again thanks to our friends at
