My name is Rob, I am the executive producer of the Clubhouse podcast and I can't say
I haven't been called a mammoth at least once in my life.
But I am not alone for this particular review, joining me across the desk as he tends
to do is my co-host who may have recently gotten a haircut, but he is getting a little
woolly again.

Yeah, I think I need to trim it back a little bit.
I've got the summer hair, I've got to be trimmed back a little bit this weekend.
It's my birthday month, so I get the nice treatment at the local sport clips for free,
so I'm going to get that done probably this weekend as we record that.
I've tamed a beard a little bit on myself too.
Also joining us is the official fact checker of this show.
And a man who will throw a meteor at you, if you make a mad.
You may know I'm as fun, don't go, but his mom and name him Don Ford, I'm going to call
him Don Ford.

So a lot of people when I talk about this series that call me Sid, I don't know, because
I don't see it.
I'm just saying.
You say I act like a boy.
Well he mentioned Sid, we have to talk about the brand new film in the Ice Age franchise,
the fifth one of these things.
When they said that at the screening, had no idea.
When I looked up a little factoid that that's the only computer generated, animated film series
to reach that many chapters.

Really kind of three before a loop, I'm like, wow, I mean not too many of them have
gone past.
Well no, I guess the only one that we've really had to reach for was Shrek, right?
Oh, Toy Story is going to hit four.
It's going to hit four, but it happened yet.

Probably start this whole thing.
Huh?
We got to think of best friends.
All right.

So let's go with this.
As we know about Ice Age, the normal cast of characters is here.
You know, you've got John Lugwizamo playing the aforementioned Sid Dennis Leary playing
Diego, Queen Latifa playing Ellie, very Romano, he's also in this of course playing
Mani, which got some new people, Jesse J joins the cast here.
You've also got Neil deGrasse Tyson.
Nick Offerman.
Nick Offerman.
Nick Offerman himself.
That's right.
Basically in this one, a meteor is headed towards Earth, not that meteor.
It's a different one.
And the crew has to pull themselves together and join rejoin forces with Buck play
by the great Simon Pegg.
To get this meteor to not destroy life on Earth as they know it.
I mean, do we need to go any further?
I mean, that's about it.
That's about it.
It's all you need to know.
Going to be interesting as we discussed this film.
First of all, directed by Mike Thurmyer, who's done quite a few of these Galen T-T-Cew.
This is his only first or second go round with this franchise.
Yeah, I think Mike Mark Thurmyer came in halfway through the series.
I think I want to say he started with two.
Well, I think he started with three.
I'll take a look for you on that.
From a reviews standpoint, not doing very strongly, which I am going to apparently
going to be in that minority, or in the vocal minority on this one.
No, he came in.
Donner the dinosaurs, continental drift, collision course.
Yeah, he came in at three.
I really liked this movie.
So did I.
I'm with you.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, because I've read you guys' reviews.
I know how this is going to go.
And I don't know.
I mean, you get to rotten tomatoes rating right now.
13 percent.
Ooh.
Kind of rough.
Oh, yeah.
But to me, number one, this is the kind of film that is critic proof.
It's a family film.
Families are going to go.
There's a little bit of competition out there for this film when it releases, but not really
from a family standpoint.
One of the earlier summer family films of kind of dwindled, quite a bit.
So this is a good time for a family film to be out.
I just want to just, I'm just going to go right here.
The 3D looked amazing.
Now, great.
In front of the show Clay Harrison, I said 3D has never made a story about it.
This is true.
But I didn't mind the story here.
It's very simple.
It's very straightforward.
And I thought it was told well.
I thought the plot flow pretty well.
It's kind of simplistic.
You know, you told the whole thing when it comes down to it.
There's a few other twists and turns and everything.
It runs an hour 34.
So that's about to happen.
So that's about to happen here.
Now, is this, is this as good as the first or the second?
No.
I don't think so.
But I still liked it.
I'm glad they made it, which I put in my written review at www.theclubasspodcast.com.

I put sometimes in these series, they should not sometimes too much.
I mean, look at my beloved alien resurrection.
Okay, enough said.
They did.
Okay.
That that film never got made.
Let's just be a film never got made.
It should not.
I, that, that film needs to be eternal sunshine of the spotless minded
from existence.
Sigourney, we would agree with you on that, too.
But on the other hand, we're not on a right eye.
But this one here, it, it was still a good, you know, ongoing story.
You get the cash, you get the crew, you get the people you love said.
I love said, because people's there minding me, I'm, you know, but the great
John, like was on.
I'm a huge fan of.
So I, I thought the pot was good for what it is.
It's kind of simplistic, but keeps the kids in.
It's not too complicated and closed well.
Chat.
Well, you are going to be the dissenting vote in this.
Oh, boy.
We want this.
There's again.
I've read your review.
I know how this is going to go.
Oh, I got to hear this.
Okay.
Rewind the clock back a decade or so.
I would really like to do that.
When, yeah, I think most of us would.
And when this series first started, the, the first chapter was.
Really?
Yes, PN, but like to check out apparently.
The first, the first chapter of the series had genuine heart to it.
And, you know, that whole us versus them, humans versus mammals, type story line where
they were just trying to get this little orphan kid back to his parents and the parents
or the, the same people they were trying to wipe out the entire mammoth species.
And so there was this.
Right.
Coins, we got a tiger pack and all.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He's the only one.
As much as I loved in his theory, and you guys know, I'm a huge dinosaur.
As am I.
I'm on.
He doesn't fit that character to me, not in just, not in this particular chapter
anyway.
It's like he just, well, he didn't do anything.
They, they had nothing for him to do when he was, when he was featured so prominently
in the earlier part of the series.
And now he just kind of like a background character that you barely agree with.
And you also get to voice actor who played his girlfriend.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's, that's it.
But you're getting a lot more characters.
That's the problem.
That's why.
Do you feel like one of the characters have?
Two of the characters down.
Yeah.
To my call, one of the psychs says Granny was great in this.
She's not in there much like the other ones, like you're saying in this one.
But this one, she, I thought she was very, very funny.
When she was in there, she annoyed the heck out of me.
Really?
Yeah.
She really did.
Plus, I think the fact that you've got the kind of the original heart and soul of this thing,
Carlos Saldana, who left after Dawn of the dinosaurs, when April 3rd, I took over.
The, the, the, the, to me, the strongest chapters were the first three.
Maybe the first half of Dawn of the dinosaurs, the third one.
And then it kind of, kind of goes off the rails.
But to me, this thing was never on the rails.
It just, everything felt so, for, for, for, just coming from somebody who grew up, a huge fan of animation.
Uh, because there's, I don't think there's anybody in this room that's not.
Um, and you have an appreciation, not just for the, for the style, but for the storytelling.
To me, the story here was just so lazy and weak.
Yeah, it, it just, it wasn't emotional.
Yeah, I think it, you, the, the emotional core got ripped out of it way early on, and, to me,
it was just like, okay, they're basically just fighting to survive.
Yeah, do you think they, they made this just to make it?
Yeah, I do.
Which, and, and they've already said that if this thing does well, they're going to make a six
one.
Why wouldn't she if it makes it, but you know, I, Disney itself, Disney picks
herself admitted that when they made cars too, they did it just for the cash, for no other reason.
I, I don't know that, I, to the state that I've seen cars too.
You don't want to, you don't want to.
You think this is turning more into quantity instead of quality.
Exactly.
Okay, that's, it's exactly how I feel.
It's like, just because you can, just because you, kind of like, gold blimps
that is in Jurassic, just because you can, doesn't mean that you should, you know,
you've, you've got a very talented studio here who cranked out one of,
I know yours and my favorite films of the year last year, Rob, with the Venus movie.
Loved it, loved it, loved it, that's Fox Blue Sky, that's Fox Blue Sky.
All most bought it today, and it was close.
It, do you really want to keep, die, and less this thing makes a ridiculous amount of money.
What more, because they, they said that when they, when they said out to make this one,
this was going to be the last one originally, originally they said this was going to
end the Ice Age franchise.
This is going to be the last chapter.
Well, then, well, you know, it makes enough money.
We'll do another one.
Okay, so you really have no more story to tell.
You just want to make it a cash cow.
Okay, they can have like, a little caveman kid that befriends them.
Oh, wait a minute, that movie's already been done, never mind.
Okay, the first one, and dinosaur from, a good dinosaur from last one,
or else it's going.
I'm just, well, I'm just saying the good dinosaur was basically a carbon copy of the first Ice Age.
It really was, and they've done holiday specials, they've done straight to video specials.
You know, it's, it is a cash cow to them.
See, I, I just liked this movie.
I had a lot of fun with it.
I did too.
I see his point.
I mean, I, I, I, I, I, I respect this absolutely totally.
And I respect you guys too.
Yeah, I mean, I like, you got something out of it that I couldn't.
I mean, I, I, I struggled to even keep my eyes open.
Yeah, well, I will say this honestly,
one did the 3D really make it.
It was great to see it in 3D, but I don't think is worth the extra cost.
There was a couple scenes where it really enhanced it.
But overall, I don't think they're 3D really helped too much.
What do you guys think on that?
I don't think it's, I mean, I, I, I don't know that it's worth the extra money,
but it was fun.
I mean, it looked beautiful.
Yeah, when the weasel was doing a little jump around and being chased by the,
oh, weasel.
Yeah, I'm being chased by the things and he has the egg and all that.
3D really enhanced that scene.
Scratch.
Yeah, a big fan of.
Yeah, but,
the rest of the, really, much of the rest of the movie, I don't think 3D really enhanced it.
Yeah, but it's fun to see it in 3D.
Don't get me wrong, but is it worth the extra cost?
Yeah, but address on a pig is still a pig.
In your opinion, in my opinion, because I enjoy this film.
But I'll say this, one thing it blew me away, the visual.
Oh, those meteor things are perfect.
CG, CGI has come so far and it looked, it really did.
Those maple meteor, make me, oh, I fell in love with that.
Visually, I fell in love with this film.
I thought, if I had one best part of the film was the visual.
I, I'm always drawn to the textures and a CG film.
When you, when you see hair and cloth moving in in a real distance.
Oh, and when you look at many, and then have the, the, the close-ups on him.
Yeah, you know, we, we, we're, I remember how we all freaked out.
The first time we all saw monsters ink and the way that they did that.
And blue sky from from an artistic standpoint is doing a great job.
Uh-huh.
I do worry that they've got their eggs and two few baskets.
Like, you said, like, they've done all these ice-age films.
They did the peanuts film, but they, they need to just kind of branch out and take some more chances.
But I, I just, I love this film.
It's almost a lot on the plot there.
Some other stuff, too.
I mean, it was peaches getting married and leaving.
Peaches played by T.K.
T.K.
You know, and, you know, and of course, the, the way that you call us tear-dactals or whatever those things are.
Trying to, you know, I mean, so there's a kind of,
I mean, it often comes into play.
Exactly.
But I, that scene where they walked into that, you know, when you call it that palas or whatever,
the fountain of youth, the, I was blown away on that visually.
And that was real beautiful.
Well, I mean, like, just me personally, I, I'd, I'd be happier if they went,
maybe it went back to the real franchise because they've only done two of those.
And, uh, they also did the Horton here's a who stand-alone.
Really enjoyed that very much enjoyed that.
But for me, it's, to me, it's all about the Peanuts movie.
And give us another one.
Which was gorgeous.
Enjoy that as well.
But I, I don't know.
Is this, is this the end-all BL family movie of the year?
Absolutely not.
The bar right now is Zootopia.
What's on it down?
But I won't say that this is bottom of the barrel either.
No, I just, I can't.
I really, I had a short time.
Yeah, it wasn't, I like it, it's not the one or two.
It's not part one, it's not part two.
It doesn't reach that level, but still it's not a pathetic thing that they, you know, just,
but the other thing that I really judged it by because this is a family film.
And we were in a theater full of families.
There wasn't a lot of restlessness from the kids on the audience.
Like they paid attention, they were focused.
We've been to certain screenings of family films recently,
where there was so much activity of parents taking their kids out and taking them back in,
taking them back there wasn't a lot of this in this screen.
And there's something to be said for that.
Yeah.
I mean, I did, I did get a, a little bit of restlessness in this screen
that we attended for a, finding Dory.
But, and the one we saw after it, too.
Well, you weren't in the same screenings that we were.
You went to night after we went for another film from another company.
That maybe was one of your wife's favorite books as a child.
Oh, yeah, this is true.
So, but that's understandable.
A live action film is always going to be a little bit less engaging to a really, really young
audience, especially if they're not familiar with the source material.
But you really can't make that excuse for this.
Anything else for me to put some, put some, uh, judgment on this?
I think we're good.
All right, what do the final analysis on this show?
We're not going to give you thumbs up, thumbs down.
We're not going to give you numbers, letters, stars, anything like that.
Our audience whom we affectionately refer to as the empire.
They want us to go deeper.
We're going to go deeper.
Up to two questions.
Question number one is would these gentlemen see this film again?
If the answer is no, then we're done here.
The answer is yes.
Then the second question we're going to ask is how far are you willing to go to see this film?
Will you pay full price in a theater and evening show?
Would you perhaps
maybe wait for a twilight?
Maybe a matinee?
Maybe early morning?
Maybe second one, the dollar theater?
Maybe you would venture away from your house to go get it from red box.
Maybe you'd stream it on Netflix or maybe wait for it on cable chat?
No.
Not even going to let me ask the question.
So he is saying no.
So don't we move to you?
Would you see this film again?
Yes.
How far are you willing to go?
I'd say more like a twilight or possibly a matinee family day.
Or family night than, you know, see the twilight than take the, you know, family out after.
I would say that I would see this again, um, but I'm kind of torn.
It wouldn't upset me if you went to a matinee and then dinner afterwards.
But also good for a rental.
Oh yeah, you know, I could go either way on that.
Yeah, I wouldn't see a movie like this in in second run just because
second run theaters tend to not keep up with the technology as well.
So the presentation might not be as good.
But it's fun.
Good times being had by all.
Again, we got to think our best friends.
