And whatever we do, and iTunes exclusive, it's usually a specific reason.
We're usually reviewing something in today's no exception.
But joining me in the studio today is a man who, if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't probably have watched
the first edition of the film we're going to review today.
He is the official fact checker of this show.
You may know him as fun, don't go, but his mom and even Dom Ford.
I'm going to call him, Dom Ford, welcome to the studio, sir.
Oh, thank you.
Oh, I've been looking forward to this one.
I know you have.
I know you have.
Also, kind of hanging out with us, maybe just giving some of his own commentary, even though he didn't
get chance to see this film.
But, you know, we don't mind having people see this.
You just want to ask questions.
He is the king of bowling. He is Andrew Beckham.
Welcome, sir.
Oh, thank you.
I don't mind asking questions.
That's a good thing.
Stupid ones at that too.
The only stupid questions are those unanswered, sir.
Now, before we begin, there's one thing I have to do.
Because I love the series.
We got to give a big thank you.
I cannot thank these guys enough.
Our best friend.
Which is in the whole world, allied integrated marketing, who allowed us to chance
to see an advanced screening in 3D.
Oh, yeah.
Of how to train your dragon to the latest from DreamWorks animation.
I can't thank them enough.
We love them.
Had a great time hanging out with them.
They're so good to us.
And so we always want to make sure that we take care of them as well.
How to train your dragon to Jay Barrishel, Gerard Butler, Kate Blanchet, Craig Ferguson,
America Ferrari, Jonah Hill, Christmas plots, TJ Miller, Kristen Wee,
Demon Hansu, Kit Harrington.
Do I need to keep going?
All voice actors in this film basically picks up
or the first film left off.
We're five years five years five years.
But still kind of.
Yeah.
Basically Jay Barrishel, playing hiccup, has become more active in the village that he lives in
with his dragon, toothless.
Dragons have become more accepted in the village that he lives in now and they live in peace and harmony.
But things get a little bit weird.
Once they discover a hidden eye, he and his native friend discover an ice cave.
And in there they find dragon trappers and those dragon trappers work for a really, really bad guy.
And that's as far as I'm willing to go with that.
We'll start with the look of the film.
Absolutely gorgeous.
Beautiful.
You know me and these dragons.
Oh yeah.
My cats could be dragons.
I think they have part dragons in their blood because watching this movies.
Watching these two movies have like yep.
That's hundred about a cat.
Yeah.
Looks like I'm acts like I'm.
Yeah.
He really does.
It's amazing how far the technology's come.
Incredible.
It blows me away when I watch these things.
And I, you know, Toy Story is creeping up on its 20th anniversary.
And it's just like we remember when we first saw Toy Story.
And we're like that.
It's the coolest thing I've ever seen.
And now we're seeing movies like this.
And it's just like it's become so much more fluid.
It looks great.
The story itself.
I thought was told well.
It's an hour 42, which is a little bit longer than your normal kids animated film.
Which barely makes 130.
But I never thought that the story dragged.
Oh no.
I directed by Dean Deblo.
Deblo.
I can't even say that.
Deblo.
Debloy.
Debloy.
You also co-wrote it.
Deboy.
With Crystal.
Crystal to cowl.
He did the first one too.
Okay.
So same director for both films.
Don't give me some impressions here.
Well, I want to give a little back story.
I heard about this film.
Never saw it in the theater.
The first one.
Yeah.
The first one.
You know, which I regret.
It finally goes on HBO.
And finally, I'll get to watching it.
Timots and I fell in love with the first one.
The first one was one of my top five cartoon movies of all time.
Wow.
Honestly.
I love it that much.
Now.
So coming up here comes part two.
Is this going to be a money maker?
Or is this going to live up to the first part?
As in how great the film is.
I loved it in 3D.
The look was incredible.
Beautiful.
The scenes where they're flying and through the clouds and the water and the fish.
And all the dragons flying around.
Now, there was one thing.
This is not spoiler because this is in the trailers.
Huh?
Hick up meets up with his mom finally.
Yeah.
That isn't the trailer.
So we got to give that to where she, you know, voiced by the great taste.
Right.
Oh, yeah.
From, you know, the Lord of the Ring trilogy and stuff like that.
One of my favorite characters has to be too close.
You know, too close doesn't say a word.
This is just his attitude.
How he could be the jokester.
The little play around.
Have fun.
I'm hearing little.
I'm your best friend.
We are team to one heck of a fighter who could kick some rear and take me.
There were moments that I thought he was very stitch-esque from we low and stitch.
Okay.
I see moments where I can see stitch in him, which is kind of weird for me.
But this, I really had a good time.
Oh, it was incredible.
You know, you gave me the DVD and it took me like six months to watch.
Yeah.
It's been 24 to me like two years.
Let's not get that twisted.
But I finally said that.
And watch out.
I was like, you know what, this was enjoyable.
I didn't, you know, I'm real picky when it comes to animated films.
Yeah, made to.
You know, I have it.
I still did this day.
I have nothing tangled.
Oh, really?
Just because I can't bring myself to it.
I just saw frozen recently.
Same there.
I was very, me about that.
And like I said on our show, which is normally something nights at 70's from four Pacific.
At the risk of losing our 14 year old girl demographic.
You know, I thought it was very, you know.
So when I announced the sequel was coming out, I know how excited you were.
I still worried though.
I was worried.
But I was like, where can we take this thing?
Because.
And that's why I worry.
This is just going to be a money maker to make.
But it was, it was like, it's own self-contained story.
Like, if you hadn't seen the first one,
within the first 10 minutes, you kind of figure out what's going on because the over the voice
over narration by Jay Barrishel basically tells you what you need to know.
And you have all the old characters from the first one.
And here, too.
But you know what I'm saying?
If you hadn't seen the first one, you don't.
It's not like you have to see the first one to understand.
It helps.
Oh, yeah.
But they kind of fill you in and say, OK, here's what's going on.
And here we go.
Again, the look of the film was incredible.
A great voice cast anytime you put Craig Ferguson and something.
I mean, what Jonah Hill, the same time.
You know, my brother.
But I've never even in both films as much as I like Jay Barrishel.
As a voice actor, he doesn't do much for me.
Because he's just kind of whiny when he talks.
And he gets to me every once you make it.
But they did, they did that some great characters in this one too.
I thought, yeah.
But I would say this.
Demon Honsu is the bad guy.
I know if you're going to get a bad guy.
I let it be that guy.
You know, I love me some demon Honsu.
That's a bad man.
Uh, you know, you actually had, uh,
Eddie Kidherington.
John Snow.
John Snow was in the film.
Yeah.
He knows nothing, but he's in the film.
But I would say the look on this was incredible.
The animation that they did, especially in 3D.
And then when these scenes in the cave, there's a couple scenes where it's dark
went to bright.
It just blew my mind watching the animation.
You know, you see all these different dragons flying around.
It just was incredible.
In the storyline, I love because it made you cry.
It made you cry.
I got a little missed.
Yeah.
Yeah.
There are a couple of sad points in this.
It can make it made you laugh.
It made you happy.
It made you just, that's why I love too much.
Because you just watch him.
Like in the beginning, you see him with another dragon.
They're playing with the stick and trying to in run the back and forth.
And everything just like, but he could turn around and kick some more of my favorite
throwaway moments.
And this is not a spoiler, but there's a scene where
he can jump out.
Hit up.
And he can, like I saw in there because he wants to go talk to this guy.
And he it's like, Oh, wait a minute.
I have a weapon.
And he takes his sword held out.
And he just throws it on the deck.
Oh, can't have he trapped the weapon.
Well, the stripper play by kicking in and picks it up and throws it off the boat.
And the dragon the background goes infetches it and brings it back and drops it.
He just looks at everyone and throws it.
He throws it off the other side.
It's one of those little throwaway moments, but it was so it was what you realized what was going on.
The whole place erupted in laughter.
Yeah.
You really do run the emotional gambit.
And on these dragons, you learn to love every dragon, even the one for like, you know,
Jonah Hill and group, I mean, some other part.
You know, just keep it really fly, but you know, you got to feel sorry for the sheep.
Yeah.
Yeah.
In the beginning, when the beginning of the film they're doing they have a race.
And they're racing around the village.
But part of the way you score in this race is they launched the sheep into the air.
You have to catch the sheep and put him in a bucket.
Oh.
The sheep doesn't always have that look like really.
This is what we're doing, really.
It's so great comedy.
Great.
Well designed, great film.
I mean, what else do you need to say?
It's lived up to the first part.
Yeah.
And that's what that a lot of people ask us.
They ask me, you know, did you like asked you done?
What did you think in comparison to the first film?
I love them both.
I would have to give the edge to the original, but they both have their strengths on this aspect or that aspect.
But it's not going to be where the first one's great.
And then looked like, you know, Shrek was incredible.
Then Shrek three was a bomb.
This is the farthest thing from it.
For me, it was on par with the first one.
It wasn't better.
It wasn't worse.
It was, they were both on par with each.
I loved them both.
You know, and I'm real picky on the cartoons.
Oh, yeah, you and me both.
You know, the story, the story, the, our, I guess.
The story that was told to that carry the movie or was it the animation that carried the movie.
I think they both worked very well here.
And it was in style over substance.
And it wasn't substance over style.
The, the beautiful look of the film really complimented the story.
It helped tell the story.
You have to describe anything to you.
It's right there.
I mean, it's, you know, in the credit sequence at the end,
they show you some of the concept drawings that they made for the film.
Really?
It's pretty spot on.
There's a couple of pretty big plot points that I don't want to spoil.
I want you to find out for yourself when you see this.
Uh, just pay pay attention to what's going on.
That's the main thing.
Well, it's time for final analysis.
Don't quite be of any other question.
Oh, um.
The, the parts about, I guess, comedy and then, like, tear jerkers.
Or though, whether, I guess this goes along with the other question.
Those weren't just thrown in there to kind of break,
to break in the movie.
Not at all.
It followed up.
To our jerkers a big.
Yeah.
It's a big, the emotion enhanced the story even more for me.
Okay.
Where you're just like looking at certain things in the film,
and you're just like, you get, you get misty.
I'm not going to lie.
So it needed to be in there.
Yeah.
So it was a big.
It wasn't there was no shock value or anything like that.
Okay.
But it really hit home.
You really did good.
You know.
I wrote real quick.
You've got to see this in 3D.
I cannot see this enough.
If you have the chance to see this in 3D.
Oh, it is worth the extra money without it.
When they're flying through the clouds and they're flying over the water
and the fish are jumping over the dragons and under and everything around.
The 3D just enhances us more than anything.
Just like life a pie.
Final analysis.
But we do on this show.
We don't give you a rating.
We don't give you stars.
So give you thumbs up and thumbs down because our audience is better than that.
It's a two-prong question.
What do you see this film again?
And if the answer is no, then we're done here.
The answer is yes.
How would you see it again?
Would you pay for full price?
Would you pay a try light?
Would you pay Matt and A?
Would you pay morning?
Would you wait for it in second run?
Would you wait for it on the rare DVD?
Would you wait for it on cable?
Or would you wait for it on broadcast television?
Because you know NBC will probably show this at some point.
Don, would you see this film again?
Without a doubt.
Without a doubt.
How much would you pay to see this film again?
I would do two things on this one.
Okay.
And this is going to be the recommend to full price.
Take the whole family out for family night.
You can even take the young kids and the five nine year olds.
Take a family night out.
Don't matter what time you see this whether it's Matt and A is worth even the full price at night.
In 3D.
It's worth the 3D price.
And another thing I will probably buy this blue ray, which is very, very rare.
That is rare for you sir.
Yeah.
I agree.
I would see it again.
Get your family together on a Friday night or Saturday night.
Go go go have a six o'clock dinner.
Yeah.
Go to chillies or something.
It doesn't reach two hours.
So, you know, you're not going to commit a lot of time for the kids.
Have dinner.
Go see this movie.
I agree.
The 3D.
You know, as friend of the show Devon Pikes at 3D never made a movie better.
But the 3D in this film really enhanced it.
I thought.
And it just it looked great.
The story was great.
Dream works.
She did it again.
Great job.
