That's a whole different story for all of the time.

And a man that's got so much hair he's been mistaken for the wolf man.

And a man that Kevin James ain't got nothing on.
You may know him as fun, don't go, but it's mom and even don't for him.
I'm going to call him, don't for the book.

That's right.

Whatever we do one of these it is to review something and this one is no different.
Because today we are reviewing the latest film from producer, writer, director.
Genity Tartakovsky was like close to that, Chad.
I think so.
This is the guy you know him.
Samurai Jack.
Power puff girls.
Clone Wars, Clone Wars.
Dexter.
Dexter's laboratory.
And now he directs the first time he's ever directed a sequel for hotel
Transylvania 2.
If you remember the original, this is an Adam Sandler brain child.
Adam Sandler, Andy Sandberg, Selena Gomez, Kevin James, Steven Shemmy, David Spade,
Michael Keegan, Michael Key, Fran Drescher, Molly Shannon, Megamilali, Nick Offerman,
Dana Carvey, Rob Riggle, Mel Brooks, Chris Katan, do I need to keep going?

I'm not.
You're going to run out of breath.
Of course, this kind of picks up a little bit after the first one leaves off.
As Dracula played by Adam Sandberg.
His daughters made this played by Selena Gomez.
Growing up a little bit.
You said Adam Sandberg at it.
They're the same person.
You never seen them together.
I mean, that's one of the fact checker.
Adam Sandler.
His daughter, Mavis Selena Gomez, is getting married to Adam Sandberg.
Two out of two out of Andy.
See now you screwed me up again.
To Andy Sandberg's character.
And they have a son.
Who, as sure Blinkoff is the voice actor who plays Dennis.
And Dracula really wants him to be a monster.
Even though we're not sure he may just be a human,
because of course his father is a human.
And as the legend goes,
we only will know at the latest by his fifth birthday.
So as Dennis' fifth birthday approaches,
we still don't see fangs, but Dracula is still hopeful.
I think that's about as far as we want to go.
And because really,
the young couple, Mavis,
wants to move away from the hotel.
And go live with Jonathan's family in California.
And be with humans.
Correct.
But of course Dracula wants to keep everybody at the hotel.
And things go from there.
Because he's dead.

Well, let's start with you.

Hey, before we begin,
we got to think Ashden and everybody from Morocco,
and Sony for inviting us.

Two of our favorite people?
Yeah.
There's such incredible people.
We got to think them again.

And it's shout out to the UA Galaxies theater stadium.
Oh, yes.
With some great renovations going on.
Beautiful, declining seats in that theater now.
Take a nap on that thing, but you don't want to.
All right.
Turn it hand, as a rap song once said.
Chad, as a father,
you kind of, the first one kind of hit kind of close to home with you.
How did you feel this go around?
I didn't have the emotional connection to it that I did because,
well, at this stage, my daughter hasn't had a kid yet.
Or gotten married.
So that is true.
But, you know, the emotion,
it's still nice to see the bond between those two.
Right.
Because I had pretty much glossed over the original.
Because we all pretty much lost our faith in Adam Sandler.
We've done the good.
Oh, many moons ago.
Yeah.
Yeah, especially for me, it was,
after seeing the cast that he had assembled for grown-ups.
I'm thinking, you couldn't do a better film with that cast.
Something's wrong.
And grown-ups too.
Well, well, I had to go.
I didn't bother with grown-ups too.
The same reason I didn't bother with hotel tour in Slovenia.
My mistake, because this, this cast is pretty much,
with a few exceptions.
Pretty much the same group of people,
borrowing a couple of people.
But this is what Sandler probably needs to do for a while.
Okay.
Because this cast seems to gel a lot better in this setting than in a live action setting.
I don't know why, but it just seems to work better.
Done?
On this cast, that's what we're going in at this point, correct?
That is correct.
Incredible cast.
The parts were played right, I thought.
For instance, Nick Offerman.
He was a big fan of.
Yeah.
I mean, Ron Swanson, that's all I got to say.
But he wasn't in there that much, but when he was there, he made the impact.
I get to work with his real life wife,
making Malali playing his wife in the film.
And I'm not real huge Sandler fan either,
and I'm just like, no, no.
But I thought the voices were correct.
I thought the voices were there for the right amount of time.
And stuff with like certain minor characters were not overused.
Okay.
But Shemi, I thought was perfect on that.
Absolutely.
Yeah. I mean, so I voiced why as I really thought that they had a good chemistry,
and they had the right timing and amount and everything like that.
For me, I really dug the story.
That thought of, you know, you want to protect your kids.
And especially in this case, with the outside world,
not really understanding monsters and things of their ilk.
He doesn't want his, his kid to go through the things that he might,
if he thinks that she'll be exposed to in the outside world,
and that family bond of keeping everybody together.
Yeah, he doesn't want to be an empty nest.
I really, and I thought the story was past very well.
There was no time.
I did look at my, my watch just to see where we were at periodically,
but nothing more to my frustration.
Right. Exactly.
I thought it was, it was a really solid story that carried very, very well.
All the way up until the end.
Yeah, like it ends in a, at a good spot in a good way,
it doesn't feel rushed.
It doesn't feel like we didn't know how to end this.
So just throw something out there.
I thought that, uh,
Tara, Tara Kofsky's vision, especially from a CGI standpoint,
hasn't always translated well.
Case in point for me was Clone Wars.
I thought they kind of should have kept that hand drawn,
because the way it translates across didn't really work for me.
But here I think his vision works very well.
It doesn't.
It never to me looked like it was too over the top,
or it was, it fit for what it was trying to do.
Mm-hmm.
Like, as another example,
you've seen the test footage that he's done for Popeye, right?
I have not.
Okay. I'll have to show that to you.
I've got in the copy of that.
And it's identical to this.
Okay.
It's about as close to making a 2D, to 3D transition.
Perfectly as, like, what they're doing with the penis movie.
Okay, fair enough.
And really, really.
And that animation from me works really well, too.
Done?
I thought, um,
with, are we basically doing the pot still now?
Or are we talking about the visual style?
Oh, the visual.
I was, because I've certainly,
it ended well and stuff like that.
Um,

Um, here's my deal.
I really enjoyed the look of this film.
Mm-hmm.
Especially at the beginning, in a lot of the night scenes.
I was really blown away.
I thought the animation was incredible on this thing.
There are so many shots where it's just,
they have that perfect look and feel,
especially being in a dark theater.
It made you feel like you'll be there,
being there, even though it's, you know,
you're as a cartoon.
It's a cartoon as a film.
Yeah.
I've favorite characters to watch animated were.
Which ones?
The baby wolves.
Oh, yeah.
Just the way the movements were down.
It didn't, it never looked real.
Herkey jerky or, or lunky.
I thought they were great.
Oh, I love them.
You mentioned, you mentioned,
be shemi earlier.
He was my favorite character in the film.
I'm not going to lie here.
I'm not even going to bury the lead here.
One word.
Frisbee.
Yeah.
Which is, it was of, of all the characters,
outside of Kevin James because Kevin James,
they really put his, his facial expressions into Frankenstein.
But shemi, it looked like,
but shemi was wearing a wolfman mask.
It really, really did like,
I saw Steve, you shemi in the movie.
They didn't do it.
I was rusty.
They didn't do it.
Yeah.
They didn't do it as much in this one,
where he pants.
He was panting in the car during that.
Oh, okay.
But in the first one,
they're in a, they're in a steam room.
They're in a sauna.
The whole time.
The scene where he's the tennis instructor destroyed me.
But I got to get over time lately.
These movies coming out.
Visually you just get blown away,
especially seeing them in a dark theater.
There was so many scenes like at the beginning
at the wedding when they're coming across you missed that.
Unfortunately, but when they're traveling at night
in stuff in the car,
trying to get to the can.
Oh, you know that.
There was,
I just thought the artistic look
in the mood to put you in and make you feel was incredible on it.
In fact, at the point,
I thought the movie ended incredibly well too on the plot.
I just, I,
I thought the ending was very good.
I thought there was a couple moments
that dragged a little for me, though,
unfortunately,
but only a couple minutes.
I thought it'd be very slow.
It seems a little slow right now.
You know who the family of the opera was?
Who?
Acting?
Yeah, love it.
It was love it.
I had no clue.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's right.
Robert's smile involved,
because if you've got,
you've got Robert's smile.
You got him and Adam Sandler
worked very well together.
Who was, who was,
of Vlad's,
like,
leader of those bat creatures?
Oh, that was Rob Riggle.
That was Riggle?
Yeah.
Not Vlad's.
Oh, yeah, Vlad.
The grandfather.
Mel Brooks.
His henchmen?
Yeah, that was Rob Riggle.
Okay.
Who I'm also a huge fan of.
I'm trying to look at the sea.
There's one person I needed to see who the voice was.
And I can't remember if they're actually going to say his name or just describe him.
The guy that was the,
the camp leader.
Oh, who was,
I don't see his name in here.
I remember what his name was,
but he was very funny.
But you're showing me to me,
it's still my favorite part of the film.
Because,
and you know,
someone who didn't have a lot that,
but did a lot with what he had,
which is not something normally seen as his four day
is,
uh,
space bait.
Oh, he was with the hair.
David Spade.
Who is notorious for just chewing scenery.
Works this well.
And he's only got probably what?
Maybe five minutes worth of dialogue in this thing?
But what he has is going on.
He works well with what he has.
The other little,
the one he's driving,
there's 10 seconds here.
There's 10 seconds there,
but it was,
you know,
when you work on a film like this,
they always have like a key animator,
a scientist character.
Whoever got that job,
was just gravy.
Oh, yeah.
All I do is a pair of glasses.
Okay.
And it just,
What is this?
This is Montley crew.
Okay.
It's called monstrous.
Okay.
It's actually like a one minute song.
It's not very long.
So I've got my finger on the,
the mouse trigger over here to go back to the beginning,
because this is the last song I had set up here.
Uh,
anything that you guys want to talk about,
else from a performance standpoint.
My thing was,
Adam Sandler right now with me,
isn't a really weird place.
Me too.
I think.
And like that with pretty much everything.
But, but you really enjoyed him in this role.
For me,
it took me probably 20,
30 minutes of a 90 minute film
to get to a point
where I could get past his Adam Sandlerness,
if you will,
and just get into him in the role.
You know what I mean?
You had seen the first one.
I don't think you would have had that problem.
Which you would possible.
I just,
I like it here.
Well, you know that and everything he does.
But I really thought maybe he'd kind of take this
a little bit of a different direction,
and he really didn't.
But once I kind of got settled in with it,
it was okay.
Uh, I also,
whoa.
What happened to me?
Oh, are you,
are you,
I could you guys still hear me?
Okay, yeah, yeah.
My, I,
I can't hear myself right now.
So,
having some very difficulties.
There we go.
Leave a beat right there.
Right there.
Okay.
My headphones went out on me there for a minute.
There were a couple of refer adult references
that I think could have been left out of this thing
because I'm there with my five-year-old niece.
And there's a moment where
Vlad refers to Jonathan's hair in a certain way
that I was like,
dude, there's a five-year-old sitting right next to me.
Yeah, but yeah.
But again, you're, you're at a PG-forated film.
So that's going to happen.
But it's got a G-forated film.
But again, was it necessary?
Maybe not.
But that's what I'm saying.
But it's still a PG-forated film.
But if it served the purpose,
I'd have been okay with it.
I don't think.
But there were a couple of those moments
for me, where I was kind of like,
I don't think Adam,
I don't remember he did the little Nikki.
Yeah.
I don't think Adam Sandler could make a G-rated film
if he put a gun to his head.
Fair point.
But overall,
I mean, it was good.
I was entertained.
Which I'm surprising for me was Sandler lately.
Yeah, it really is.
And I think I made,
Chad May have hit the nail on the head
when he says,
maybe animation is what he needs to stay.
This is where he needs to stay.
I really do think.
But even going into that,
I was a little nervous
because what's the only animation that we know him
for right now,
besides these two films?
The, his Christmas movie.
A crazy night.
Not a crazy night.
It's not a comic movie.
Which was, it was good.
That movie had a good heart to it.
But it's nowhere near what
at that time should have been Sandlers.
Bar, if you will.
Yeah.
But I agree with you.
He's done better in animation than he's done in live action
in the last decade.
And the last eight.
I'm being it.
So that brings us to the final analysis.
The way we do the final analysis on this show.
We don't give you thumbs up thumbs down.
We don't give you numbers,
stars, ratings, letters, whatever.
Our audience whom we affectionately refer to
as the Empire is better than that.
So we ask two questions.
Question number one is,
would you see this again?
If the answer is no,
then we're done here.
But if the answer is yes,
it becomes, how would you see this again?
Would you see it in first run?
Would you see it at a Twilight show?
A matinee early morning on a Saturday?
Would you wait for it for a second run at the
dollar theater?
Would you actually take the time to go
rented from a red box?
Would you stream it through Netflix?
Would you wait for it on cable?
Don't let's start with you.
Would you see this film again?
Yes, I wouldn't.
How far are you willing to go?
I would.
I would wait till myself something like the ilk of HBO,
but I would still recommend it though for the new people out there as a
matinee or twilight.
All right, Chad, would you see this again?
Oh, absolutely.
How far are you willing to go?
I'd go the full nine because of the atmosphere.
Really?
Well, you know me.
I'm a Halloween junk.
And is that time of year?
Yeah.
When we record this, we are slowly
but surely approaching October.
I mean, this movie's going to make it should make a pretty
good chunk of change, consider that it's coming out right before
out.
Well, not only that, but you don't have a lot for them to compete with right now.
No, no.
From a family, a standpoint.
Should they have waited another two weeks?
No, because you want to get the kids now.
Okay.
Because what you're going to have is you're going to have stuff that
what they're going to be competing with here in a couple of weeks.
Are things like, especially my family standpoint,
things like ABCs, where they call it their 30 days of Halloween before
they do their 25 days of Christmas or whatever.
And then you're going to have the Charlie Browns of the world and everything else
coming out.
I think hitting when this movie releases the next to the last week or
the last week, the last full week, really of September,
really is going to get people in that mode.
Yeah.
Because they're going to have a lot from a Halloween standpoint to compete
within a couple of weeks.
Because if you went to the end of October and released a week of Halloween,
all your box office is going to get snatched up by the good dinosaur
in the peanuts movie pretty much.
Lots of movies.
Yeah.
That's what I'm saying.
If you release this October 31st, you've only got two weeks.
I think maybe the first week of October, maybe the second.
That's mine.
Yeah.
I mean, I can see that, but I think they're going to release it at the right
time.
I would see this again, but I'm going to put a caveat on it.
If you've got the family, take them early morning Saturday or to a Saturday
matinee.
Because it's not even barely an hour and a half.
You can go to it right at maybe right before or right after lunch.
And then have a day together.
Yeah.
For me, by myself, I might rent it.
Maybe on demand.
Maybe like Amazon instant video or something of it's ilk.
But I still want to see this in 3D.
Oh, you would do.
That's yeah.
I really would.
There were definitely some scenes.
I was like flying the 3D walls.
We'll benefit from that.
And the animation looks great.
You will fall in love with these characters.
It was so much fun.
Yeah.
