one-stop shop for all things sports entertainment, live every Sunday, 70's during
4th Pacific, maybe because you also subscribe on iTunes, and we appreciate that because
it is time for another, I'm sorry, my name is Rob and I am the executive producer
of the clubhouse podcast, which basically means I direct traffic, it's pretty much about
it.
Even that alone for this particular episode are 88, I'm sorry, are 89, I tuned in
to school schedule.
Joining me in the studio across the desk is he tends to do is a man that lives in
home, but don't really really all technically he is check, nice, you do live in a home,
live in a home, a mental home, no, all the others that.
Also joining us for this particular episode is the official fact checker of this show,
and a man whose home is changing, very, very soon.
You may know him is fun, don't go, but his mom will call him Don Ford, I'm going to call
him Don Ford, welcome sir, about a week to go, then I'll be in that new Kassa law for
it, it's about a block away, yeah, but better place, you know what, we'll be happier,
we're not here to judge you outwardly, normally when we do one of these, I told him
it is a review something, and this particular one is no different, today we are here to
interview the latest animated feature from director Tim Johnson, who also did ants over
the hedge, and send bad legend of the seven seas amongst other projects, it is also
the latest from DreamWorks animation, it is called home, starring the voice talents
of Jim Parsons, Rihanna, Steve Martin, Jennifer Lopez, and Matt Jones, basically the
story is this, Jim Parsons plays O, O is a member of a race called the Boom.
The Boove are a race of aliens who run away, basically, they are running from the
gourd, they're enemies, and so what they do is they basically inhabit planets until
they get found, and then they evacuate that planet, go to the next planet.
They arrive at Earth, and basically, they just relocate all of the people that are on
that planet, in this case, to basically Australia, which adds a lot of people up in Australia,
but whoever, well, as they're getting settled, Boove wants to have a housewarming party,
he's not very well-liked, he thinks his name is Oak, it's every time somebody says
I'm gonna go, O. Well, when nobody shows up to his housewarming party, they find out
he sent an email, but in sending said email for his invitation, he sent it to everybody
including the gourd, oops, which is not a good thing.
So he is now an outlaw, trying to run away from his fellow Boove and get to Antarctica,
and as he's trying to run away, he runs into a young lady by the name of tip, 2G.
Now tip is her nickname, you want to guess what a real name is, yeah?
DT?
Gratuity.
Okay, it's her name, because her friends call it tip, you see what they did there?
I finally just got that right now.
I don't want to live in this planet anymore.
Well, they run into each other, and O agrees to help tip find her mother, who has disappeared.
Who's voiced by Jennifer Lopez, and now I don't know if this was done on purpose or not,
but I looked up some information on the book, this is based on, oh, in the book is named JLo.
Stop it, that is true, that is true, you can look it up on Amazon.
So as she thinks, oh, is helping her, he's really trying to get her to take him to Antarctica,
and away we go.
Don, let's start, you and I both saw this at a great time with her.
We got to think our best buddies, allied, they went to see this in 3D, yes, they did.
And bring lots of friends, family for this thing.
Took pretty much all of the kids out of Dave Scott's house with me, incredible time.
Seeing this in 3D, we can't think Josh and everybody allied enough.
Thank you so much, our best friends in the whole world.
Yes, they are.
So, don, let's start with, you know, we talked about seeing it in 3D, do you think that the 3D added
to take away or would you have put in good either way?
Good either way, okay?
I didn't think it's like, I, some movies were the 3D, really, an answer to it.
You saw the 3D difference, which I think enhanced it, but not a huge, huge difference, I thought.
I would agree with you, for me, the, um, the, it gave it more depth, but it wasn't like,
it was like, it was like, it was like, it was despicable me with the millions, it's like,
3D, you know, kind of, yeah.
It was just kind of gave depth to the picture, which was nice.
I really liked the style in this.
Oh, yeah, it, it's very, very colorful.
Oh, I, very bright colors, a lot.

I was blown away by the look of this.

There's one scene in the middle of the night when they're over the ocean, which blew me away.
This is a beautifully, I don't know how you say graphic or painted or whatever, but the look of this
was just so pristine and so beautiful.
I was blown away.
Render, rendered, I think, would be a rendered, just like, it compares with the book of life.
I thought, wow, yeah, it's high praise.
Yeah, I was blown away.
I can't say enough how much I was.
I didn't, I've not had any chance to see the book of life yet, but I really, like I said,
I enjoyed, there's a lot of, a lot of bright bright colors in this and the boob and it's something
that that dimensions in his review as well.
Their race, their color changes depending on their mood, temporarily for like 10 seconds.
They're normally purple, so they're walking mood rings being pretty much.
Yeah, and that's kind of cool because you can actually see the different emotions of the people around
him when he's talking and when he gets mad or they turn red, if he buys, he turns green.
So what would you say this film resembled visually that you would, that you would compare to other
than the book of life because was that yeah, I can look at life works a lot of dark colors.
The palette in this, because DreamWorks kind of has a distinct visual style.
Yeah, but this was above the bar.
Well, I'm just saying that I just don't know that I can compare it visually to anything.
Right off the bat. It's just, because it's realized that this song works on two different levels
because it is Rihanna and it's called Only Girl in the World.
It's actually in the movie.
Oh, is it? What that makes sense.
Which I like this song of hers and we're going to get to the music here in a minute.
Because just looking at the art of it that I've seen, it looks a lot like that plan at 51 movie
that they did a few years ago.
And I mean, the plot sounds kind of similar.
It's just the first, yeah, you know, that's what I got from it just on the surface.
But getting into the plot, I really, looking, I was actually looking doing some research on the book
on Amazon and one of the reviews I read was the guy was comparing it to Europe coming over
and the Indian settlers and things like that.
Which I can see how you would make that parallel.
But I'm not going that far down the rabbit hole.
Oh, that's kind of a reach.
I wouldn't say it's a reach. I can, I can see like how you would get there.
But like I said, I'm just not going that far down the rabbit hole here.
I thought it was a great story of friendship and
acceptance, I guess you could say, because there's some certain things that come out as the film goes on
that you go, you know what kind of didn't see that coming.
Looking back, I should have.
But and I don't really, I don't want to give any spoilers here because there's a really great little
neat little twists in the film that keep your attention.
And unlike a lot of things where you have to put adult references, like with pattings
of what we talked about, you don't have to put adult references to enjoy this film.
This is the same way. I still think patting tends a better movie.
Don't get me wrong. And I still don't get to this day how they found a talking bear.
But I just, this film is very entertaining on the level that it kept my attention for an hour and a
half. And I didn't feel like it is sold to its audience.
I think that the plot's very straightforward and the story is told in a way that's entertaining for
everybody involved.
Done on the plot.
I put this in the review too that I was very intrigued with it.
It was in the basic core plot. I was very entertained. It did not drag. I thought the storyline
was incredible for what this is. And I don't think it's too complicated for the young kids, too,
which makes this very, very incredible to me on my aspect.
Kids could follow it, the little kids could follow it, but on the other hand,
the adults, it kept me intrigued. It really did. In the comedy throughout, there's constant
comedy. I was laughing so many times. And then on the other end, there's one point
by the end of the movie where I'm a scared tear my eye. So you get those whole range of emotion.
I don't agree with that. Totally. And another thing about it, and I know Chad, you are not
president of the Jim Parsons fan club. I'm not, I'm not anti-Jim Parsons. I just can't stay
in his character on Big Bang. You're not president of his fan club. But that voice works really
well with this character. I can see that. And I just, you know, I have to do one thing, though,
they meet in a convenience store. And one of the slushy flavors has bust a lime. But
and that just makes me happy. But still lime. But even better if he was playing the convenience
store clerk. Yeah. Well, remember, although humans are going. Oh, that's right. That's right.
Pustle. And this is one of the things that I talked about in my review on on the WWEWWW
got the Clubhouse podcast.com, which is our website. I have a, I had a bit of a stumbling block going
into this film. Because as you know, not president of the reanna fan club, right? Not president of
the Jennifer Lopez fan club. He neither didn't know that that was Steve Martin until in the credit,
the end credit. It did. That made me happy. Reanna's voice for the character of tip.
Never quite clicked with me. It did for me. She just sounded too old to be that young in the film.
Jennifer Lopez, they rendered her face. No, no doubt in my mind. But I could get past my bias against
both of them to enjoy this film. That being said, because there is another shoe in this.
It was kind of like they went, hey Reanna, hey Jennifer Lopez. If you voice this film,
we'll let you sing a song too. So you get Jennifer Lopez's singing voice all over the
big emotional moments of the film and all over the end credits. Yeah, of course. And you have
like four reanna songs in this one. I think only one of them was for the film. Because like I said,
only girl in the world was one of the songs that was on the radio when they were driving in the car.
Uh-huh. Which I like that song. I like some of her stuff. Jennifer Lopez, I can't,
I can't get past her Jennifer Lopez this. That's the thing for me it is. But I was thought she was good
in this for what she did. You know, she just had to play the worried mother. She's not in there too much.
I probably say 10 minutes probably told over that, but still. Yeah. But the story was so good. I could get
past my not much enjoying them as human beings for this film. Steve Martin always great.
And if you don't like Steve Martin, I am shipping you to a communist country. But
this story was so good. Again, I could get past that. You know what I mean? Oh yeah. The story kept
me intrigued. It's just a really, really good movie. Yeah. The changed slushy flavors.
How did you get your cat in that movie? That is not my cat. Because that cat is a lot more loving
than my cat. And by the way, the cat's name is pig. Okay. Oh, it's good Rob's cats aren't this
film. They're just like you make up. Now, if my, if my cats were as loving as this cat is in this movie,
I would be in a lot better place. Okay. Unless I am not my wife. I love them. Yeah.
That is in those cats are their mother's cats. Okay. I am, I am acknowledged if they need to be
petted or if they need to be fed outside of that. I have no use to them. One of them is a serial
killer training. Okay. But this, you know, picking the film there. Kind of, you know.
But pigs and pigs are great characters. Oh, I love picking a thing. It's like the sheep and how
to train your dragon. Yeah. Pretty much. Pretty much. And I just, I really, really enjoyed this film.
Oh, I did. Now, again, I'm still giving padding to the wind. Because I loved that movie.
So, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so much. But this is a good, this is one's cartoon. I, I could,
well, but say, I could say it's a small part. Then what's the, what's the, what's the more,
what a, what a more fair comparison be, Madagascar. So, that was full on Anna, which one,
and the pink one's a Madagascar. Oh, penguins. Because you, that's a Madagascar. Yeah.
Yeah. Well, I like penguins a Madagascar more than I like this. Okay. Because I mean, because
this dream works and it's full of innovation. So, and, and I, I like both how, how you train your
dragons, how to train your dragons better than this one. And those were dream works, too. Yeah. But you
just saw penguins like what in December, November. Yeah. I enjoyed this film. Don't get me wrong.
I, I, there's just something for me that I can't quite put my finger on that would have
pushed this over the top. It exceeded my expectations. Yeah. You know, the directors got skins on
the wall, the guy done animation. That's what he does. So, I just can't, I, outside of the whole,
we have to have Riana and J. Low on the soundtrack. That was really the only downside to me for this
movie. But still, you know, I can't, I can't like give it high high praise. I enjoyed it had a great
time. But I can't say it's a wonderful film. Now, I know you love this. Oh, yeah. It's my favorite
cartoon since the Trinidad Dragon series. Very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very,
my opinion. No, I, I, I just, I was born by the look by, in how, like I said earlier, the story,
it could keep an adult in a child very friendly family movie. Take the whole family to this. And apparently
this, the book is, is a series of books. I don't, I don't, how many books are in this series?
When I looked it up on Amazon, they were other books by the same artist,
met the same artist by the same author, Adam Rex. The name of the book is the true meaning of
smack day. I mean, I'm giving it such high praise. I'm giving it such high praise because of the
comedy in there, the you could change emotions in this film. The look was just blew me away on this
thing in the storyline was incredible. I was never bored seeing this as predictable. I was waiting
for this song. Do you know, do you think the crew were going to make an appearance? You're welcome
in it. I thought you were going to play Dot Tree's home. No, I don't think this one better.
I almost did the carry underwood version and just completely blew the wheels off. Oh no,
I don't you dare. Her version is good. I was actually listening to her. Yeah, play the crew. I enjoyed
her version. Yeah, play the crew. All right. That's going to bring us to the final analysis. Before we do,
we got to think Josh allied our best friend. There's so great. 3D. We got to see this in 3D. We can't
think them enough with the Dolby 3D classes. Oh yeah, that could one. The way we give you a final
analysis on the show. We don't give you a thumbs up thumbs down. We don't give you names, numbers,
stars, what eves. Our audience, the empire. Am I, I'm too old to say that. Yes, you are. Our audience,
the empire is better than that. What we do are final analysis. Two questions. Question number one,
would you see this again? If the answer is no, we're done here. But if the answer is yes,
it becomes how far are you willing to go to see this again? Would you pay full price?
Would you pay full price? Was 3D? Would you go to a Twilight matinee early morning? Would you
get it on red box? Would you download it on Netflix? Would you watch it on cable? Don,
would you see this from you? Definitely. I will, I will see this film again sometime in my lifetime
without a doubt. How would you, how would you see it again? Or our empire deserves even more than that?
I, I would see it myself personally as a matinee probably again. But I would recommend this.
Not to the extreme where it's say full price 3D, but I would say Twilight full price theater,
but you don't need to 3D. I'm not going to give it that to the extreme. This is, you want to do
family nights where you take the family out to dinner or you go, good date night. This is a great
first date film. I think our second date film. Fair enough without a doubt. But you want to take
the family out for family night and see a movie. This is the one to see right now without a doubt.
I would see this film again. I would recommend it more, though, as family viewing on a family
date night at the house. Maybe you go buy my favorite popcorn store here now locally,
who needs to update their website, by the way. Grab a big bag of popcorn, run to sodas or whatever,
gather around the family room, get your PJs on and just have family night at home. That's how
I would recommend it. Okay. Fair enough. Still a good film. Oh, great film. Just not, I don't know
that I'd pay for price to see it. You know what I mean? Yeah. Because right now that's a high bar for me.
Yeah. The only movie that there's only one movie that I've paid for after going to a screen this year,
so far. So that shows you how, yeah, how picky I can be. Exactly. But good for the entire family.
Oh, absolutely great. The family date. Again, the name of the film is home from DreamWorks
animation director Tim Johnson, Jim Parsons, Rihanna, Steve Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Matt Jones.
Go check it out. It's a good, wholesome family show. You'll make your laugh almost bring
