If you're hearing the sound of my voice means the following conditions have been met.
At least once in your lifetime you've checked out the Clubhouse podcast live every Sunday
night, seven Eastern four Pacific, you're one stop shop for all things pop culture. But
it also means you've checked us out on your favorite podcast apps. So you call those
things the apps because it's time for another iTunes exclusive number 387. That's where we're
at right now. Welcome. My name is Rob. I am the executive producer of the Clubhouse podcast.
And yeah, don't do scary movies. Not afraid to say it. But luckily I got people in the room
that do because joining me in the co-host chair is the official fact checker of this show. And a man
who ain't afraid to know ghost. You may know him as Fondongo, but his mom and even Don Ford. I'm
gonna call him Don Ford. Welcome, sir. There's a Honda mansion and shared my own. Is there? Yeah.
Did you live there? Well, I went searching and then Kendrick mansion too. Inside there's two places
I'm shared and that have ghosts. Supposedly. Don Ford Montana historian. That's why I told me I said,
why only? Not my data. I'll roll it up there. You know that rounding out the day. This is the lady
of the house and someone who does is a lot better at geography than I am. She is general. Welcome,
friend. Hello. I'm not much better. I don't. I never had to take them. You know, I never had to
take geography in school. Yeah. If it deals with mandatory in seventh grade, I went into eighth grade.
It was very strange. If it deals with taxes, there's a good chance. I know it because I have a
Texas education. But if it's outside of Texas, it doesn't exist. Whenever we do one of things,
it is one of these things. It is to review something. And this is no exception. Ari Aster.
Directs the very highly anticipated hereditary. But we start this whole thing. Yes,
sir. We got to make Josh and our best friends. Allied Integrated Marketing. Some of our favorite
people are our vendors. They let us see movies early so we can tell you about them and you can make
the best possible decisions for your entertainment dollar. Tony Colette, Gabriel Burn are both in
this thing. Here's what you need. I'm just going to read the IMDB description because I feel like
this is going to be another one of those minefield episodes. When the matriarch of the grand
family passes away, her daughter's family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying
secrets about their ancestry. That's what the IMDB thing says. Not what I saw last night.
It's a way off. I don't know. I'll leave it at that. Okay. Yeah. That's not quite the plot.
I'm leaving the family here. Yeah. Because I feel like because even like seeing the posters for this,
I was like, there's a lot going on here. And I feel like we can't go too deep into this thing
because we don't want to give anything away. Is this one of those kind of films? Because you saw it,
I didn't. Yeah, do you read my written review yet? At www.clubasspodcast.com. That's our website,
and I have not. Did you see the header I put on that? We're going to have fun with this one.
Did you listen to what I just said? I said, I haven't read it. How would I know?
But that's why I was kind of saying you might want to read this ahead of time. Okay. I usually do,
because I even said there's going to be some spoilers on this. I'm also the editor on this.
Yeah. I will read it. I promise you. All right. So basically, it's like there's the family.
You got the mom, the dad, and the kids, right? The grandmother dies, right? And that's where the
movie starts at the funeral. Okay. Okay. But then a couple months later, the brother is driving
in an emergency situation and their daughter passes. And that's where the supernatural happens.
Everything just starts to happen from there. I don't want you to go through the whole film.
I don't want you to do that because I want to be able to see this film. Yeah, that's what I'm kind
of saying. And that's where it really starts done. So almost two hours and 10 minutes long.
That's not a good noise, sir. So you felt every all two hours and 10 minutes?
I put it this and again in my written review at www dot the clubhousebox.com. That is our website.
At the one hour mark, I went outside because I had to. And I was saying, do you know what,
20, 25 minutes could have been cut out that first hour alone. Really? Yeah. The first hour and a half
is, was it just, was it like, did you feel like they were dragging it out on purpose?
Or they're trying to tell the story way too much and they could have condensed it easily.
The last half hour is the where the supernatural quote scary stuff happens.
Like I'm going to add this. Still that they show the IMDb page. And there's literally
somebody on fire. Yeah. So yeah, that that happens. It's even on there. Yeah. Yeah. I should do. Yeah,
I mean, this film really did drag and that's not the worst of it. Really? Okay.
This is not the reaction I expected out of it. Oh gosh, no. And put it this way.
When it got to the quote scary part, it is a flop. And I love me. You are a fan of Scary Moose.
I love me some saws. I love you. You are. Of course, you and Chad are scary movie correspondents.
And I put this in my review too. The Fantastic Faith Ford, when she left, she goes,
that was more of a comedy than a scary movie. That's how that ended. Wow. In the audience,
during this thing, when we're watching that, the Alamo, which we love the Alamo. Big fan of the Alamo.
The new one, I've probably been to the ambulance for some time. Would you think of that one?
I liked it. You've been there. I haven't seen it. You've been there. I haven't seen it.
Half the audience laughed at some of the scary scenes. They laughed. Wow. And when I laughed, I go,
Josh, I really like you guys, but I'm going to rip this and go start slapping. It was okay.
No, they are. Our victims ask us for our honest opinions. And that's one of the reasons we love
them so much. Okay. There were these scenes that tried to be scary. And I want to
left in my written review that it reminded me more of a pen and teller show with Spiderman
joining in as a guest performer. As you did. I mean, it's like they add a little violence,
but it's comical magical. That's kind of violent. So were you watching a road runner carton?
I don't know. That's like, this is supposed to be scary. We're laughing at so many times.
And I know that Alamo has that no talk policy. But literally, I spoke this out,
sound like this. I go, really? Oh, really? Did we look over at the faith and we look at each
other and start laughing at certain scenes about a half the audience was laughing again?
I don't know what it gets so complicated where A happens to be to be happens to see them see
it's mad and he's going to jump in and have his brother E come in and try to save the family
on that kind of thing. That's kind of weird plot. And then the ending and this is being spoiler free.
We're like, are you serious? And this is where my spoiler is going to be. And I put them
this can be spoiler in three, two, don't say the one. Okay. I can pull this up here.
They try to do some kind of roadsmaries, baby cult thing. But having a bunch of old overweight
buck naked people standing inside and outside the house and they show the full front of buck nakedness,
I call that Wednesday. This did not work. I mean, if I look outside your window and I see a bunch
of buck naked people standing outside your neighbor's house, aren't you going to call 911?
Then don't come by on Wednesdays. What did I just say?
We're like, what is going on? Wait a minute, wait a minute. Is it because it was buck naked that
you didn't want to say or it's because there was so much buck naked. Because I mean, if it was,
oh, I don't know, Miss Palmer, you might be more interested. But still, I'd be going,
what's the point of this? You know, it's like, so many times I'm going, I have a question here,
because I'm like, when what's going on? Isn't this supposed to be scary? It's not
what happened. And see, there were so many people that were such a buzz around this film. Like,
at the top of this, when I said, hardly anticipated, I was not saying that tongue in cheek. Yeah.
Like, I had a lot of people that are like, I'm really looking forward to this movie. There's a lot of
buzz. And apparently it was not exactly justified. Yeah, and I looked this morning and Rotten Tomatoes
is at 100% off 30 reviews. But it's like, wow, but what's that one with Scarlett Johansson?
Under the skin. Under the skin has an 89%. You keep bringing that movie up. No, but that's
makes that rotten thing. I'm like, I just didn't see it. The first hour and a half drag,
drags, drags, drags, drags. And then they have these supernatural events that Penn and Teller
do a better job in their Vegas show with the violence and the fun and people laugh and people
laughed at this. But they weren't supposed to. But then here comes Spider-Man or Spider-Person.
I mean, it's just we're going really. Spider-Person. Really? Really? We're not getting any royalties,
so you know. Wow, this is. And you say, no, the one thing if there's a silver lining,
I'm trying to find a silver lining. There was some good photos because it's basically,
takes place at the family home. But there's some great scenes where they turn off the light and
they try to scare with the like silhouette of the spirit. They did that a couple of good times,
which is good. That photography showed you could see it, but not too well, but you have to kind of
look and shows that kind of spirit thing in the dark. Very good at that. I'm going to give it that.
That was incredible. How they did that. It was just the perfect gliding, just the perfect
amount of the body and stuff like that. But they're not acting. And I love my burn.
He's usual suspects. He's a great actor. I was just, you know, but an hour and a half
of dragging and then all of a sudden is, what in the heck is going on? And this is not scary.
And we're actually laughing and going really. And even Marcus even left early.
I'm going to show Marcus Blake. Wow. Next to me, he had to go and it's just like a good thing
you had to go. I'm sorry. You're not missing much. Jeez. Yeah. I would, this was a major, major,
major disappointment to save a least. And this is why the Empire should listen to these shows.
Yeah. They know that it's anticipated, but it did not hold that anticipation. I'm sitting here in
shock right now. And during the super. This is not how I expected this to go. And the supernatural
plots, it's kind of like they try to couple those cheap scares. And it's like, I'm against it.
You're not going to get that on me. You're not going to get that on me. It's not going to work.
Yeah. It's just there wasn't enough of a suspense. Yeah. And the suspension of disbelief
uncommon. It's like they try to do the suspension supernatural in a real world and make a pull off
in a dozen. I mean, I just think this is so now how expected this to go. Wow. I mean, I'm seriously
sitting here in shock right now. Yeah. And a bunch of us. This was this bad for you.
Yeah. And a bunch of the critics were walking out going, because someone's like,
I don't know. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'm disappointed beyond belief. Is there any
that? I mean, do we just need to go to the final analysis at this point? Wow. Let's just
get this over with. Yeah. Okay. I mean, the way we do the final analysis on this show,
I'm very confused. We're not going to give you thumbs up, thumbs down,
make it people. I can't like, I'm so disoriented right now in shock that I can't even do the
spiel. I'm going to ask Don up to two questions. May be one is, what do you see this film again?
If the answer's no, we're probably going to be done here. If the answer's yes,
then then I want to know how far he's going to go to see it from the best of the best of the
worst of the best. We've got full price at the theater. I don't know why I'm even doing this at
this point. I guess if you're new, God bless you for joining us for the first time. We appreciate
you. This is not the best. Down to a twilight show, down to a, a, a matinee, down to early morning
on a weekend, down to second run at the dollar theater, down to Gidey leaving her house and
getting it from red box and streaming on Netflix, down to seeing if it's on cable. Don, would you
see her red it Terry again? I'm making this the maze render promise. This will make my top 10
worst of the year, just like maze render. I'm saying, I know it's June, but I don't care. This
will make my top 10. Wow. That would be a no. Yeah, this is a no. This might get a turkey
possibly. I mean, let me ask you this. Just we've got proper framework. Yeah. This versus a
Terrence Malik film. This because there was kind of a plot. Okay. So you would see this before
you see another chair. Yeah, because it actually has some kind of story. You know,
I mean, that's going to help us put in proper framework, but it's Ari Astor, writer, director,
who apparently did a movie called her red it Terry. Forgiveness whole thing. Yes, sir.
You know, it's not their fault. We love. We got to make our best friends.
Alight, integrated marketing. Don't use that one for your jingle. That one was very good.
But they give us a chance to see movies and be honest about them. And that's incredibly important.
Because we want to make sure that the the empire knows that we're transparent and we're
honest with them because we want them to make the best possible decisions they can for their
entertainment dollars. Let's go ahead and just do the plug show. Yeah, please. Let's get to
visit our website where you can find Don's apparently crazy written review that I haven't edited
yet because I just now got it in my email. We were doing this thing. It is www.theclubhousepodcast.com.
