the 100 episode re-recorded in season seven so we are trucking along this year and overall
so we thank you guys for sticking around with us we thank you for listening we thank you for the
feedback we're just excited to be here my name is Rob I'm the executive producer of the clubhouse
podcast and I really can't speak to my marksmanship but I think I'd be pretty good at it but I'm
not alone for this during me across the desk as he tends to do from time to time is the official
fact checker of this show and a man that I would venture has fired a weapon in the wilderness at least once
in his existence you ain't know him as fondango but his mom and even down for it I'm a column
down for what's going on start well considering half the people Wyoming are actually born with guns
in her hand and that just beats over in the Montana right yeah yeah yeah I have shot again
whatever we do one of these things it is to review something in this particular episode is no exception
to that rule brand new film from the director who was featured last year at a couple of film festivals
in the Ben Wheatley who directed high-rise his brand new film is called Free Fire. All right you ready
we got to sing and we got to sing and we got to sing and we got to sing and we got to think the whole
crew for the invites to stick out like we love them Ashley the whole the whole time you was there
hanging out with us for such fans of those guys and they do such great work and they let us see
films before they come out so we can tell you about them so let's talk about this film
it is called Free Fire here's what you need to know it's 1978 it's Chicago I'm sorry it's a Boston
not Chicago it's a Boston Boston Boston Boston actually Marky Marky that's an old side of
but it's about a group of people who are basically meet to do an illegal drug uh guns deal
an illegal weapons deal and he goes horribly wrong yes he got the people buying the guns who are from
Ireland and he got the native Boston to herself in the guns and yeah so let's let's run you some
some names in this thing look up a shuttle coply who you might remember from the 18 and uh
try to forget that one there was there was the alien film district I believe it's district I can
remember but uh Bree Larson from a big fan of already hammers in this yes uh silly and Murphy
who you might remember played the scarecrow and Batman begins a lot some big names in this and some
big names that you're gonna hear more from coming up if you look them up on IDMD as well
district nine what's the film district nine that's right this runs right about a mile and a half
I believe me it is rated R for many many many many reasons here really I can only this is I said
this in my written review conveniently located for your peruzil at www dot the clubhousepodcast.com
which is surprisingly is our website it really truly is yes I walked in with an expectation and
it met my expectation which is a good thing if you could take the last 20 minutes of reservoir dogs
and turn it into a 90 minute film this is it and that's it for me that's a compliment yes
you know I I actually saw online because most of it takes place in this warehouse where the guns
deal happens yes well kind of sort of happened well what's it to deal with gone and I don't
know if you know this but then we leave a director allegedly designed the warehouse
in Minecraft in the game or yes she definitely designed it and as I as the film went on
I love the way he designed this set because there's something there for everybody it reminded
me a lot if you remember the gauntlet from American gladiators yeah for the gladiator had the big
turret that had the tennis balls in it and the contenders would have to run from station
to station to get weapons to try to take it out yeah it was kind of like that because everything
set up kind of like an obstacle course in this warehouse and so you might be listening to say
but Rob you're talking about the last 20 minutes of reservoir dogs what about stuck in the middle
with you take out stuck in the middle with you put in John Denver's Annie song and there's an element
of parody to this so there's some good there's some good comedic moments I loved this film
this film is so much fun if you can handle the violence in the language it's hilarious it's fun
there's moments where you're gonna oh in certain people get shot I mean you guys think of this
is a 90 minute shootout so at a certain point I was like are these people qualifying for storm
trooper academy because they can't hit anything or people are getting getting shot unintentionally
and then there's other weapons involved there's twists and there's turns and this is it's one of
those films where if you've had a really just a mentally draining day and you just need something
to watch that's just going to kind of help you decompress and smile and laugh and have a good
time this is deflected what do you what do you thought well watch what what you're watching
40 minutes that's almost a record almost halfway there I mean I was just like I don't even
need my watch because I'm enjoying this yeah but that you almost broke the record it didn't almost
did break the record yes because at one point of friend of the show Dave Scott was with us and
I just leave the original minute dude we're halfway done and he'll be like what I'm like no
seriously we are well watching you from mom because you're sitting behind me no I'm sitting to the
to the oh you want to know you're to my left because I was sitting on the right yeah we're in that
front row and that's right you're you're to my right and my great friend Marcus from that nerd show
good friend of the show we're big friends he was about to roast behind us hmm I have never seen
you laugh so much in a film ever I'm not I can't I can't think about it was the perfect film for
the perfect moment because as I said earlier I was I had had a very mentally draining day going
into the screening but I was really I've been looking forward to this film for months and I had that
expectation going in and it met that expectation and it was that perfect movies for guys who like
movies you leave your brain at the door and you're going to watch stuff explode like that's what
you need and that's what you get this film those exactly what it wants to be and it's exactly that
well you know if you go to my ringer view www.covastplacas.com or website that's our website
you know I put it near this film is not for everybody it's not if you can leave your PC
mentality at the door and you want to film with some good fun adult humor and not the sexual
that's what I liked about this film it has some good comedy which adds to the violence perfectly
that just makes you lap in a horrible situation when you look at it and it's not that sexual
you know adult humor it's that adult humor that in this film which I put in review has the perfect mix
of violence and comedy absolutely absolutely perfect through this thing and it's totally
hilarious in this as the dealer with using his thick accent yeah army hammer as kind of the
straight man first of all yeah what appeared yes what a great beard yes he is hilarious
brie Larsson is that perfect kind of foil to them that's just like oh you guys are just idiots
you know and with the bullets flying and there's there's two or three other subplots running through
it which I thought was the one with the beard who is driving the van with the John Denver originally
oh you're talking about let me look let me look let me see if I can find that out because yes
that book that that beard was pretty epic too um let me look I can't really tell
because I I want us out's Jack Rainer is his name okay you would know him from he was in
sing street okay great film he was in the latest version of Mick Beth he was in Transformers
Age of Extinction Delivery Man but he looked a lot like Seth Rogan in that he just had that kind of
I hate the world and it ends up it's where he has this come on comedic moments yes and it mixes
well with the book Cassie Cassay as Martin yes there was once he was Martin he just did not expect
you it's just like yeah it's some people that boosty say you would know him he was in one of your
favorite films from a couple years ago I in the sky yes he was in that he's also in the brand new
showtime show gorilla he also was in Rogue One and we're trying to find him I think it was you know
with the shootout and it is a 90 minute shootout I mean with the setup time is about five to seven
minutes and then here we go minor spoiler three two don't say the one there's no slowly
second time I can't not think of a character who does not feel the pain okay okay yes you
could leave it there you can leave it there so whenever you film there's always those basic
rules when the shootout goes out bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang okay not in this
brother after it happens in the beginning right there's points where each side just gives a
tip especially the moment that's the catalyst that starts the gun bite it's gonna like oh
maybe some people are just like you know what I'm care I'm standing up and walking if I get shot
I get shot he don't I need to go on the other side of the room don't shoot me you know in the
beginning of that you get shot but you're like yeah okay go ahead you know even though you know
I've been shot three times and a great screenplay co-written by the director and Amy jump who
he works with quite a bit it's just it's a well told story and I look I'm gonna say this you
had that kind of look it was set in 78 correct the filming look like it was from that time
I mean the look of the film in the cemetery a great feel a great feel to it and I liked how it was
basically one set yep basically one base he uses every square inch of that entire world yeah
there was and and I think the the that area in that warehouse had that perfect look for that film
absolutely you know it was just this is the right place for something like this to happen
you know and I just like I and I do like to tagline for it all guns no control yes
I mean is there anything else we want to cover before we get into the final analysis on this
leave your PC at the door and just have fun yes yeah the way we do the final analysis on the show
we're not gonna give you thumbs up thumbs down we're not gonna give you letter grades numbers
you know number of bullets or whatever because they use them all pretty much
we're gonna ask two questions question number one is would you see this film again if the answer's
no we're done here the answer's yes then the follow-up question is how far are you willing to
go to see it again from best to worst the step-back-show runs full price in the theater twilight show
Matt Nassho early morning show second run at the dollar theater actually leaving your house to go
get it from red box streaming it on Netflix or waiting for it on cable don would you see this again
definite how far you want to go surprisingly it gets the coveted wow look at you
more price at the theater I just thought what going in and after this because they threw the
will rules at the window but if you could lead no I got to every empire member this is brutal
there are some adult humor and there are some real brutal scenes so if you could get through that
in leave your PC at the door you want to guys not this see this film full price and this did win
the people's choice award for midnight madness at the Toronto film festival it's been nominated
awards at the Rotterdam film festival the market plot the film festival the British independent
film awards this things out there I would definitely see this again and I don't care how you have to
see this movie see this movie it is a great popcorn film see it with your friends so you can all
talk about it afterwards and if you're going to pay full price I'm not going to stop you this movie is
that much fun this is one that even like later on down the road if it comes on and I'm at home it
might be a stop down for me this also might be one that I would own on blue ray so if I just need
to do a press and maybe I've seen die hard already that day I can pop this and have a great time with it
it is it's on HBO you're going to throw it on it is Ben Wheatley's free fire before you
understand again we got to think ready and in the market pick Ashley the whole crew we love them
their best friends for reason thank you guys so much we hope you go see this film enjoy the film it is
free fire let's do the plugs visit our website we've talked about it a couple of times here it is
