Welcome my name is Rob, I am the executive producer of the clubhouse podcast and it's
time for another to this exclusive number 14.
And I am not an atomic dog.
Maybe after Taco Bell, you don't know.
I'm not alone for this, this particular episode joining me across the desk is my co-host.
And a man, whom like me, he's an animal lover, where has I tend to own cats, he tends
to own dogs, he is Chad.

I don't trust cats.
They're going to take over the world, you might as well just get used to it.
That's why I don't trust them.
No, because if you welcome our new female felon overlords, it might not be that bad for
them.
I'm resisting.

And a man who likes to know what's up dog.
You may know him as fun doggo.
See what I did there, but it's fun doggo.
But it's my name is Don Ford, I'm going to call him Don Ford, where are you sir.
Hey, the fantastic faith Ford, she loves dogs, especially the corny dogs, she loves corny
dogs.
In fact, at a way home from here, I got to pick up corny dogs at the winner's stitzel
take it home because she likes to win your stitzel corny dogs, they're corny dog nuggets
or 25 cents a piece right now.
Are they really?
Wow.
Oh, okay.
Um, kill me now.
Just kill me now.
I don't even know where to go at this point.
I'm begging you, just kill me now.
But everyone do one of these, it is to review something and this is no different.
This is a brand new ensemble film directed by the great Ken Marino.
It's called Dog Days.
But we're starting to open.

I am bummed that I missed this one.
We were like triple booked that night, but Don has checked this out and we're going to
talk about here's what you need to know.
This is an ensemble piece about people who own dogs and how their lives intertwine.
Let me run down some some, some, some names for each ad.
If I say Nina Dobrev, does that mean anything to you?

So there's a lot of tone bell is in this as well.
A lot of fairly big names are in this.
You just say Ron Seafen Jones?

Okay.
Yeah.
This just seems like it's just a movie that's just like about watching people do stuff.
Am I right on that, Don?
In a way.
Okay.
In a way.
So this film takes place and you could say modern day and stuff like that.
And it's a story of about it.
It's in LA.
Yeah.
It's about, you could say five to six groups of people in some ways that kind of intertwine
with each other.
Okay.
But they all have the dog.
They all have their own dogs.
They all have like one dog.
Yeah, not corny dogs.
Dog.
Dog.
Dog.
Yeah.
We've done the corny dog thing.
It's gone from the corny dog.
They have like a little, what's that one from the Kingsman that EGZ had?
What's that kind of dog's literal?
JB?
No.
The style.
What was the breed of the dog?
It was a fuzzy a pug.
No, like one has a pug and one has like the basic mud and stuff like that.
So they all have the dog and the dog has a very important role in there.
You can see the family makeup.
Okay.
Does this kind of come off like as kind of like a love actually with a dog twist thrown
in?
Love actually beyond these.
Don't shoot me.
Honestly.
I've never seen the other.
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay.
So now I've got one.
But I think the vibe that they're throwing down sounds about right.
It just like five people or five couples intertwining storylines and stuff like that.
But the dogs involved in that.
Yeah.
But the linking factor here is the dog.
The common thread.
Yeah.
So the dogs play like a big part of the life though and where one person is watching
the dog because his sister is giving birth so he's watching the dog for them.
Okay.
The twins.
All right.
And he starts to grow the relationship with the dog.
So as keeping the dog, it starts to become part of his family.
And there's, and I don't want to give much of this out.
But it's kind of like where one has, he owns a dog rescue and somebody comes to join
him.
And it's like the dog rescue intertwines with somebody else and that person intertwines
with someone else.
And, but it's about five or six people and now I'll also say this, the does not get too
confusing though.
Okay.
You kind of keep up.
You keep up.
It doesn't where it gets to the point of A goes to B because the C goes to D and so forth.
It's since there's so intertwined, you get to know this five to six groups of people.
The look of the film is really good.
It shows L.A.
It's usually sunny outside, but it doesn't scream L.A.
But yeah, there's the beach and stuff like that.
So you know you're there.
But the look of the film is good.
It complements the film, the shots outside complements the mood at the time.
So I thought they did a good job on that.
Okay.
The runtime is good.
It didn't seem too long.
Right.
Just under two hours.
Yeah.
And for our movie, it did keep me interested.
I thought it flowed well.
And there are some stuff where you go, oh, I see this coming.
This is going to happen and that's going to happen.
But then at the end, it kind of takes a little twist.
So it doesn't give you that ending you expect and it kind of gets surprisingly in the
good way on that.
Okay.
So I did like that point of the thing.
The acting, there are so many characters in this film.
There is no...

The dogs tend to be more of the star of this than the people.
Did I read that correctly?
Yes.
And I was going to get to that in a big point.
But let me get to that in a second.
Sure.
Sure.
Sure.
There is a good cast and there are a lot of like you could say supporting actors in this
film.
And there is no lead person in this film.
There's no like main character or main actor or main actress.
If they had went for Oscars on this, I don't know who they'd pick for the best actor.
It'd be who'd be in the running for the best supporting actor and best supporting actress
in this film.
No one really says I'm the lead character because they all intertwine.
And you look at some of the people on this cast.
They've done a lot of roles as being supportive cast members in other films.
Jasmine Cephas Jones in this who was in blind spotting that we saw recently.
She was also part of the Hamilton cast for a minute, sir.
Yeah.
Just like another one.
Uh...
If I could read.
Quarterway from...
Rob Cordray.
Yeah.
Cordray on.
Like I'm ballers.
He's a supporting cast member there.
And Star of Hot Dump Time Machine.

Yes.
But so I think I really like the fact that no one says I'm the main star and everybody
didn't try to steal the spotlight and it fit really well.
So would you say that this really is an ensemble piece then?
Very much so.
Very much so.

My shout out has to go to two entities.

Someone who I have no idea who it is.

They're dog trainers.
Okay.
Fair enough.
I have to give it out to them.
It is the dogs.
In this film, the dogs are in those scenes where it's like they're almost actors.
How they're able to say the man now?
They don't talk.
Okay.
But I really...
These dogs become characters in the film.
Kind of like in a dog's life where the dog is a character and it knows how to move
and act it and they must have just filmed it perfectly with the trainers.
Give me a best example.
There is one scene where...
Let me give the guy here.
Pally who plays Dax's...
I have a Pally.
Yeah.
He's watching the dog for a sister and he's not the most responsible person but he's trying
to be halfway responsible and he gets more responsible as he watches the dog and he plays
on the band and stuff like that and so he takes the dog to practice with a band practice.
Well the dog ends up eating the brownie of one of his drummers and you wouldn't know
what kind of brownie I'm talking about.
All in the dubies!
A little bit later you said that his dog is...
Yeah.
I failed on that.
I have failed you on that.
I apologize.
The dog acts like he ate a brownie.
That's how you aim, man.
I was gonna say...
You're kind of funny looking man.
I was gonna say that the dog's on its back.
This...
It just laughed.
This film has a lot to do with relationships and people growing especially with the dogs
and there's some very family moments of where like one group is adopting a new girl and
she does not...
They're not able to break through until they get a dog and how that dog will help them
break through.
So there's some emotional family stories, emotional relationship stories on this.
My big thing is the comedy.
This thing has comedy all the way through.
Do you say that the comedic elements kept it moving for you so it didn't seem like
it was to our movie?
Yeah.
And they never dried up.
It turned all the way through.
I mean, after the dog is the brownie, I was rolling.
The whole theater was rolling on that and how they're able to make the dog do it.
And if you got any dog treats because I could use like 100 right now.
But I have to give the shout out to the dogs on this thing in the comedy.
This had heartfelt moments, but comedy kind of a way like Gleason where you get the emotional
moments, but then there's something that makes you laugh and it makes the movie so much
better.
And there's no like bad real, you know, like horrible emotional moments like Gleason.
But when you get that emotional picture comedy and they do it perfectly all the way through,
it flies by.
All right.
And fantastic faith forward.
I never heard her laugh so much in this film.
That's good news.
Yeah.
And you know what kind of, right?
She was just rolling, rolling, rolling.
It's like we're leaving.
It's like she's going to want to get a dog now.
Like kind of we have to do a pet deposit.
It's a whole thing.
Maybe later, we have the stuffed dog.
Yeah.
I said anything out of you because I know that you as big of a dog person as you are.
Yeah.
I've been really interested in this anyway.
And the way they're marketing this thing, I love whenever the initial one sheet's dropped
and it was just pictures of dogs faces just like, hello, you know, you could tell that
the dogs were going to be more than just a little bit of a side note, it's heavily featured
and they hear Don say their characters they follow through on that.
Yeah, they're characters in this film.
So I'm intrigued.
I'm definitely intrigued.
All right.
Shall we get to it then?
Let's do it.
Let's do file analysis.
Here's how we do it.
We're not going to give you thumbs up thumbs down, letter grades, numbers, doggy treats,
anything like that.
I think I do want doggy treats.
That's right.
Hmm.

No, they're not.

I mean, if you want to, I'm not going to judge you outwardly, but still.
I'm going to ask Don up the day.
I'm going to ask Don up the two questions.
Question number one is, would he see this film again?
The answers know them were done here, but if the answer is yes, then the follow up question
for Don is going to be, how far he's willing to go to see it.
Because the best of the best, the worst of the best, here's how it goes.
Full price of the theater down to a twilight show, down to a matinee, down to early morning
on a weekend, down to the second one of the dollar theater, down to actually leaving his
house to go get it from Redbox, down to streaming on Netflix, down to cable.
Don, would you see dog days again?
Yes.
How far you want to go do it?
You have to hear the little thing.
Oh, that's right.
Good job.
All right.
Believe it or not, I was so surprised in how much I laughed in emotional I got and I saw
nothing wrong with this film and how happy it made my wife.
Number one, this is going to get the coveted.
Full price of the theater.
Full price.
Number two, this will make my top 10 of the year.
Very nice.
Wow.
I don't know where, but it will.
I'm going to tell you something, but I'm going to have to warn you about something done.
Yeah.
You've been saying that quite a bit lately and there's only 10 spots available and there's
