Whatever we do one of these, it is to review something and this one is no exception.
Today we are here to review for you the latest film from the Russo Brothers.
Started out a rest of development now we're here with Captain America Civil War.
Before we start this whole thing, we're going to have fun with it.
We have to think Susan, Janet, everybody at Susan Jacobs and Disney for a brightness to
this thing.
Oh, absolutely.
We got to see an MS 3D.
We did it.
Well, two of us did.
Well, two of us did.
Because Chad actually went to a different screening because it was closer to his side
of town.
But the movie was the same.
There was no difference in the film.
But thanks.
I didn't get in 3D though.
I can't.
You did.
You did get it in 3D.
Thank you so much.
They're wonderful people.
We love them.
Basically here's what you need.
I'm just going to give you the IMDB description of this film.
Critical interference in the Avengers activities causes a rift between former allies, Captain
America and Iron Man.
If you haven't seen a trailer, we'd like to welcome you back from Jupiter.
Do we really need to go much deeper into this?
No.
It is the 13th film in the Marvel Universe in eight years.
The MCU is cooking with gas, sir.
Let's just start where we start.
I mean, let me be honest, and I'm going to be up front about the way this film is.
This is not civil war.
And I know Don, you look a little confused here.
A lot of people are going to be going this is not civil war.
This is Captain America civil war.
And I say that, the music a little bit loud there, I say that because this is
for fans of the comics, this is not Marvel civil war.
No, no more so than age of Ultron, the Marvel comics event was Avengers age of
Ultron.
Correct.
This is not, that's the nice of my problem is I was going in going.
If this is going to be civil war, two things have to happen, neither one of those things
have exactly.
But what I had to realize was this, there's a reason that they slightly marketed this
as Captain America civil war.
And now, if it were me, I would have called it Avengers Civil War because if there's
more to it than cap, basically what you need to know is, in this version of the story,
the government wants the Avengers to be ruled by the government, not to be a private
enterprise, which is, again, in premise, different from the premise of the comics version
of the story.
They say that you win because it's a national thing since they go all right, the spirit
of it is the same.
Right.
But the execution is completely different.
Right.
I mean, it's a cataclysmic event that causes it to be enacted by the government.
So, I mean, there are parallels there.
There are definite parallels.
You will see them.
If you've read it, you'll be like, okay, I see where they did this.
I see how they pulled this off and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Tony is all for it, cap is completely against it.
That's where your strong similarity lies, correct.
The Avengers take sides, including some new people, and here we go.
It's really, going into this, let me just be perfectly honest, going into this.
There's a lot of hype.
It's unavoidable.
I've heard people say things like the greatest superhero movie ever made.
I really tried to avoid that hype, because this is the same hype that went the other
way for another film about a month and a half ago that I felt a lot different than a
lot of people on the internet did about it.
You and me both.
And it's kind of the same thing.
It's about a different two people with a difference in philosophies that are both good
guys that it ends up getting a little real.
Mm-hmm.
You may as well call that civil war.
Exactly.
Yeah.
It's, this is such a weird thing, because I'm trying, I really want to review this as
objectively as I can.
It's two and a half hours, let's put it out there.
About the, about the average now for a Marvel film.
It's a really good superhero comic book film.
You asked me after I saw it, because you and I talked the whole way home.
You asked me to rank it up against the other, you have the two caps, the other two
caps in America films, and I can't, because they're all three so completely different.
I still think if, if you held me down and said you have to do this, you have to do this,
you have to do this.
I still think I might put the winner soldier a little bit ahead of it.
Same here.
Now visually, the Russo brothers are, they've proven themselves.
This film visually is amazing.
It's the first time, I mean, we can put it out there because it's been the trailers.
Spider-Man's in it.
It's the first time Spider-Man's been in a film where the effects were not in house.
So take that for what you're paying for it.
Three letters, I L M.
It's the best Spidey's looked.
I can say that.
Yeah.
I love Andrew Garfield.
Do you know how much I love both of those films?
Indeed.
This performance I think was, although it was a different Spiderman's, I think it was
probably one of my more favorite Spiderman's done.
My thing is, first off, the look visually, I think 3D really enhanced it.
I will say that and we'll get that into the final analysis on that, but by the way, Tom Holland
playing the Spiderman's.
Yeah, that's right.
That's right.
But I like the integration into the characters and stuff like that.
I don't have the in-depth knowledge of Civil War.
I'm the first, my Greek creds, not there, okay, fair enough.
But I could see why they call it Civil War because you see two different factions in
that and I know why they may have said that.
Maybe an outside guy, not knowing the underlying story of this.
Well, I mean, it really is great.
It is a Civil War within the Avengers.
Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah.
And I totally agree with you on that other point saying that this should, yeah, it's called
Captain America.
Like through the film, it's a lot of Avengers.
This could have been like a Avengers 2.5 and a lot of people have called it that of
it because there's so much of the Avengers in there, it's not just about like Captain
America by himself or where they come in with their slow cameos and stuff, but you always
get that one cameo.
I'm going to leave it at that.
But one person.
Yeah.
He's talking about Stanley.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
Because he's in all the movies.
Oh, but yeah.
So, yeah.
That's exactly a spoiler.
But people that are asking is Stanley and his movie.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Now, to the storyline, I was really getting into this.
I don't really know the background, but this film compared to a lot of the others.
I really liked the M-depthness where it went into the more emotional stuff like that
of the superheroes.
This got really deep and I was really getting into the new storyline.
It's really starting to understand this and really see what's going on and triggering my memories
from the past films.
It's like, hey, all right.
Because it does, it's right there.
It'll very well.
You know, I will say this though.
If I had one major gripe, I thought after about the first half hour, from 30 minutes
to about an hour into the film, I thought it'd drag some there.
Okay.
Oh, okay.
It was really kind of slow.
I can't say, but I can't say I disagree with you.
Yeah.
Now, do we need to be bang them up?
Boom, boom, action all the way through?
No.
But I just thought the storyline there really has kind of got too political, too talky stuff
like that.
I understand why, but they kind of overdid it on that.
Here's my other thing.
And I want to make this point.
Well, for those of you that are big fans of the Spiderman, he doesn't show up till
an hour 25.
So be aware of that.
Secondly, it was funny because the day we went and saw this film, friend of the show,
Kevin Daniels and I, we worked together.

The Michael Manfilm.
Love it.
How do you have the big shoot them up, bang, bang, bang.
And then you realize you still have 45 minutes of film to go.
This is very similar to that because when the big scene that you see in all the trailers
at the airport happens, we've still got an hour to go.
Oh, yeah.
And I like that.
Yeah, no.
I think that's great because there's fallout from that.
Oh, yeah.
But just be aware.
Don't be like, oh, this is it because it's done right because you have this big fight,
but you have to be able to deal with the fallout of the fight number one.
There's number two, everybody had a role.
It wasn't just a bunch of people fighting around two people.
It wasn't just about cap and Iron Man.
You knew why.
You knew why.
You knew why.
It was about vision.
It was about other people that I really don't want to go into because I'd
forgot one person that came into the film that actually in the trailers.
And they explained that person's reemergence really well.
I thought.
Yeah.
There's a line that I think something really well in that scene after the tarmac that black
widow gives to to Charles.
Yeah.
I was like, well played.
Okay.
But I agree.
You really see the sides and why they're on the sides.
And it's open to people.
No.
Great.
Great.
I can see why they're standing there.
And even with all of that together, you still had great dialogue going on too.
Great dialogue, great fight choreography going on, everybody have their role.
And it wasn't just this guy fights this guy, it was this guy's fight in this guy.
But he sees his buddy over here is kind of falling a little bit by the wayside.
So he's going to go help him out and then come back and fight his guy.
The choreography, it was, it was the royal rumble.
Like it really, it was an absolute battle royale, but everything worked.
It was kind of like that scene in the first Avengers where, you know, the big, the big
360 shot.
That's my secret.
I'm always angry and the thing that led up and what followed immediately.
After, that's pretty much what that scene is.
And let's talk about to shower for a minute.
Oh, my Chadwick Boseman has a lifetime pass with me right now.
Lifetime pass Chadwick already loved him whenever he played James Brown and get on up.
And now let me, now let me tell you the difference.
He's also played Jackie Robinson in the 42.
Okay.
Now let me tell you the difference.
When we review, I see, I don't think we actually reviewed get him up, but we've talked
about get on up quite a bit.
When I watched that film, I didn't necessarily see James Brown all the time, because
I had already seen 42.
So going into this film, I already had a Chadwick Boseman thing in my head.
In this film, the dude's to challenge.
I don't care.
I don't care what you tell me.
I don't care if he shows me his driver's license.
This dude is to Chala.
And what have we talked about?
For the non-greed people, he's, what's his, what's his, what's his panther, there we go.
For 20 years, we've talked about the possibilities of when Wesley Snipes was supposed
to plan.
Which I still think, he could still pull it off, even though he's older than he used
to be.
And he's already got another Marvel comic character, but Wesley, sorry, bro.
You missed your chance.
The door has closed.
The door has been slammed shut by Chadwick Boseman, who, by the way, did so much research
on the character.
He could, every comic he could get a hands on.
Oh, by the way, he went to South Africa, South Africa for a while, to get into the
head of the role.

Because the way he made an impact, he made an impact.
He made an entrance.
Yes, he did.
And get ready for February of 2018.
Yeah.
That's what I came up with.
Because that is when the Black Panther movie happens.
Oh, boy.
I mean.
And I thought that was a weird choice for that film to be a February film, but it's three
months before Infinity War Part One.
And if you've noticed, every film that's Avengers' S has been released in that first
week of May.
Yeah.
So that's why that's happening.
I think I can honestly say I'm looking forward to the Black Panther solo film, more
than I'm looking forward to, Ragnarok, or Dr. Strange, just because he was so intriguing
in this.
He was amazing in this.
And I was the one with this guy.
Well, like I said, you know, I'm not a big fan of the Spiderman, but I'm on board
with Tom Holland.
Yeah.
The excuse, you can put Marisa Tobay on screen.
I'm good with.
Let's just be honest.
The only thing that kind of got to me a little bit here.
I like how you would go from place to place.
But what I didn't need was, London!
Now you warned me about that.
That didn't really face me.
Whee!
It was like watching a Spike Jones film the way he puts big huge letters on the screen.
So if there were half the size of that, you'd been happy.
It didn't put it like in the corner, so it's a matter of time.
And it's defense, though, that is actually a part of the book.
Right, but it's still, but it's still not like written huge on the deal.
It's written in the corner, isn't it?
Well, I don't know why they changed it that way, because that's how it was in
age of Ultron.
Whenever you were in a exotic local, they would show it to you in the lower right-hand
corner of the screen.
But that was also a Weedon film, and not a Rooster Brothers film.
I see your point.
But it did bug me.
It didn't really bother me.
It felt comic book-ish to me, so it didn't really take me out of it.
And two more words.
Paul Rudd.
Yeah.
You know how big of a Paul Rudd fan I am.
And when we saw Ant-Man last year, how many times did I say, I can't wait to get this guy
and downy in the same scene.
His first scene alone, completely worth it.
Poor guy.
Just, he's the Rodney Dangerfield of the group, he gets no respect.
I will also say another one of my favorite scenes in the film, and I don't want to give
it away because I want people to see it.
There's an exchange between Bucky and Falcon right before the airport battle.
That, and this will lead into my next point, and you know what I'm talking about when they're
alone in the car.
Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, that scene, and I would probably say there's probably 10 others
easily that I looked at and went, that's a panel on a comic book, like that's a panel
on a comic book.
They had a dynamic that I really didn't expect, and it isn't, it isn't really played
up in the trailers or in the TV spots or anything.
There is a dynamic that exists between Bucky and Falcon that I absolutely love.
I love it.
I love that forced chemistry, and another scene that looks like it was direct out of
a comic book panel.
The exchange between Black Widow and Tony at Avengers headquarters that you see in the trailer
when she says, I'm not the one that has to watch my back, yeah, that whole sequence
looked like it was taken straight out of a comic book.
Marvel gets it right in film.
Now, let me blow your mind a little bit.
I need to see this again, and not in a, I need to say this again.
I need to see this again, because I don't, I know how I kind of feel about this film,
but I don't know completely how I feel about this film.
That's second time around.
I just need to keep this second viewing, there was also a lot of things cluttering my
head at the time that kind of took me out of it.
Like, and God bless Kevin Daniels, he knows me really well.
He looked at me after I sat down right before the movie started.
He looked at me and he said, get your head in the game.
And I knew exactly what he was saying, but I, there was so much going on in my head
at the time.
I enjoyed the film, but I need, I need to see this again, away from a screening atmosphere.
Does that make sense?
It makes sense.
Do you see what I'm saying?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I want to kind of see this in a, I can't, the only thing I can say is like, in a normal atmosphere.
Yeah.
Like, and that's weird for me to say, but that's exactly what I mean.
Like, I want to go see this in an atmosphere where I'm not with a bunch of press or anything
like that, kind of amongst the people of that go to the house, and I'm going to see it.
I'm going to see it opening weekend because friend of the show, Jim Briggle is out of town
and he's like really wanting to go see it with me and I was like, okay, we'll go see
it this weekend.
I'm trying to conforming the worth, yeah, I mean, and you said it before, I would say it
out loud.
That pre-show alone is going to be what's up.
That's what I'm talking about.
You're going to be surrounded by a bunch of fanboys that are going to respect the screening.
Because that way, I can see if, if the hype is worth it.
Because there were so many people after being so low on another film that we can't run
that we're not going to mention, being so high on this film, where they high on this
film because it followed that film or where they high on this film based on, you know what
I mean, based on the actuals of the film.
Well, and think about how long that law has been between Antman and this, but I do
well, almost a year.
I do want to put on this that that other film, that this was night and day between
the two.
They got it right on this.
The other one didn't when it comes to the storyline.
It really kept me going, but it got in depth and gave a lot of information and made
somebody from the outside with no Greek cred, be able to come in and really start to follow
the stuff and what's going on.
I mean, the other film just bored me.
To me, there's actually a lot more similarities to this film than maybe a lot of people
realize.
But this one didn't write 100%.
But right now, you got 164 reviews on Rotten Tomato, 152 of them are fresh.
It is currently at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Down a percent from the day before we recorded this.
I really, really liked this film.
I can't say that I loved this film yet, which is why I'm kind of saving that for whenever
we decide that I'm going to go see it again.
I'll be right there with you.
I mean, I mean, great storyline.
I agree with Don the first 30 45 minutes got a little slow for me, but once it gets
up, the first the first half hour was great, but that second half hour is what's going
for me.
For me, it was the first about 45 minutes.
I was kind of like, OK, let's get the train out of the station because I wanted to get
to it.
Now, I will say there is a villain that I wish we had seen more of in this film.
And I don't want to say who because I don't want to, because that could be a potential
spoiler for people.
I also do want to say there is not one, but two extra scenes, one in the credits and
one post credit.
So stay for this.
As the meme says, one does not simply leave during the credits of a Marvel film.
Yeah.
Stay for wait for this singer.
Yeah.
And I don't want to talk about whether I liked him or whether I didn't like them because
I really want people just to see it and make their own judgments.
But I did like the actual what normally would be an opening credit sequence that they do
at the end.
Because if you watch that really carefully, the shadows actually pertained to who they were
talking about.
Yeah.
The light changed like Scarlet Johansson, the shadow off of her name, formed the black
widow hourglass, which I thought was a really, really classy touch.
Like Marissa Tomeye had a string coming off her name and you followed the string and it went
up to Tom Holland and the entire web was around his name.
That was kind of cool.
But I think unless there's anything else you guys want to mention here, we can go straight
to the final analysis.
I'm good.
Let's do it.
Wait, we do the final analysis on this show.
We don't give you thumbs up thumbs down.
We don't give you a number rankings, anything like that.
Our audience whom we affectionately refer to as the empire.
They want us to go a little more deeply into it.
So that's what we're going to do.
There's two questions involved here.
Question number one is, would you see this film again?
If the answer's no, then we're done here.
If the answer's yes, the way we rate how much you liked this film, how much you will
be in the pay?
You're going to go full price at a theater because you also have the 3D and the IMAX 3D
option.
You're going to go to maybe a twilight, maybe a matnesho, maybe early morning on a Saturday
or maybe you're going to see it in second run at the dollar theater, maybe a wait for
it at red box, maybe you wait for it, you know, stream it on Netflix, maybe wait for it
on cable.
Don't let's start with you.
Would you see this film again?
Oh, I will definitely see this film again.
How far are you going?
I'm going to give two reviews.
One as the, look at double enough.
Non Greek credit.
One is the big fan of the stuff.
If you're a huge fan of this stuff, full price 3D, if you're into the Marvel, you're
the big fan like you two are.
Now, for the non Greek creditors, I'm going to say, would you say like the casual fan, the
casual fan fan?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, for the casual fan, twilight 3D, so both 3D, 3D on both.
If you're a fan, you had full get in there, see it, but for the non Greek credit
casual, I'd still give it a twilight chat, would you say this again?
Heck, yeah.
How far are you going to go all the way?
So for you, I am X3D.
Yeah, this is this is a kind of film that I'm X3D theaters are built for.
I preface what I'm about to say, because chat did not see this in the I'm X.
Okay, chat was on a 3D, scone showing, but it was not I'm X.
I would definitely see this again, no doubt, because we've already established that.
You will see it again, I don't know that the I'm X is worth the money, really, because
when we saw it in the I'm X, it was not full screen, really, it was like watching a
DVD letter box on a 4 3 television.
Yeah, but for me, okay, so I'm still so I don't even know that I would pay 3D price.
I would go to an evening show, and I think I will probably see this in 2D over the weekend
to compare and contrast, because I didn't feel that the 3D was utilized to the fullness
of its potential.
I know it's fight scene, yeah, that one scene, the car chase scene with the motorbike
and everything where we actually get the bike panther at the hour mark in 2D or something
right about there.
Yeah, that was worth it right there for me for the 3D.
For me, it just, it just wasn't.
I never saw anything that was like, now let me say this, from an I'm X standpoint, the audio,
you might could try to sell me on that, because the audio presentation was absolutely
top, but I'm not saying I'm X, I'm still saying 4 price 3D, but not the I'm X.
I might say for the fans, I might say in that new AMC prime with a Dolby Atmos might
be a good idea.
Yeah, probably so I'm maybe we'll try to do that this weekend, if they're showing
it in that, but again, I need to see it again, I need to be able to absorb, because
what I found was when I went and saw the other film that we're not going to mention
the name of, I went to a second viewing of that this past weekend, and it did me a lot more
good than the first time, because I could sit there and I could really kind of dissect things
a little bit better, because I knew what was coming, and I think I made that maybe
why I need to see this again, because I want to dissect it a little bit better, okay.
Does that make sense?
Yeah, it makes sense.
I mean, it's Captain America Civil War, it's the MCU, it's the Russo brothers who for the
second Captain America film in a row brought it.
The Russo brothers are proven that your last name does not have to be favro or weedon
to do quality, Marvel Cinematic Universe films.
Agreed.
For you, this thing, we have to get things, Jenna, Susan, everybody, Susan Jacobs, and Disney.
We love those guys.
It was a good one.

This will be worth your money, because it's actually going to get some of mine.
