My name is Rob and I am the executive producer of the clubhouse podcast.
And the guy responsible for pushing a whole lot of buttons to make a whole lot of things happen so you can hear me.
I don't know if that's my ego or just because somebody's got to do it.
But I'm not alone for this particular episode.
Joining me across the desk is he will do from time to time.
Is the official fact checker of this show?
And a man who knows the blues.
You may know him is fun, don, go.
But his mom and name him Don Ford.
I'm going to call him Don Ford.
Welcome to the show.
Um, we had one way to plot the end of the year.
And happy new year to the Empire.
Yes, but it's time.
Most of the, here's the beginning for the brand new year 2015.
It's about to go down.
To be a big year, I think.
Yes, it is.
Big year that's last year 2014.
So let's let's lead into it.
Shall we?
Yes, we will.
There's a show going on right now.
To win spear opera house in the Dallas Fort Worth area.
Known his blue man group.
We were given the opportunity to see it last night.
Yeah, all first off.
We have to think Cindy Evans.
Everybody to win spear opera house.
18 team for four more.
They are so great to us.
They let us come see this thing.
Oh, we can't think Cindy.
We had to let this one in the last one we did with just blue.
Oh, they're on a roll.
Well, we have to do.
We can't take her enough.
Cindy, thank you.
Everybody in the back or the whole thing.
Thank you so much, guys.
Basically, just in case you've been living in a cave, we're not here to judge you outwardly.
Blue man group has been a show that's been around since 1987.
Sort of buy some some college friends.
And it is branched out.
They actually have shows residents in Vegas, New York, Chicago, LA.
There's a touring company.
Which is what we saw.
And basically, it's just three guys who wear all black and their hands and their heads are painted in blue paint.
So they're easily interchangeable.
As if you know anything about this show, you know, it's not just three guys.
You see three guys on stage.
But those guys rotate out because with that kind of energy, you got to have a day off everyone.
So basically, they integrate comedy, magic, technology, and art into this.
For lack of a better word, frenzy for an hour and 45 minutes.
Where your visual and audio will be taken to a new level, usually to say.
There, I mean, basically the show is just a series of vignettes.
They don't talk.
No.
Don't think you get a sea like the computer voice, like the screen.
Our narration.
Yeah.
There's some narration done.
But basically, they do a bunch of different vignettes.
That, again, combined technology and art.
And there's a good amount of comedy in there too.
A lot of what they do, especially musically, they have different percussion instruments.
Like they have a huge bass drum.
They play.
They have a bunch of PVC pipes that are shaped.
So they're pretty weird.
Yeah.
There's also some really neat visual things they do with video screens where they go behind them.
And it looks like they're, they're, you're looking through the video screen at them.
The show runs about an hour 45.
I don't want to go too deeply into it just because if people have never seen them before,
I don't want to tell them what to expect.
The site's greatness.
Yeah.
I mean, we really can't talk about the storyline because there really isn't one.
So let's talk about the visual style of the show.
What'd you think?
Well, before I go into that, I want to kind of lead on something that I've been a Vegas a few times.
And that's one show I've never met before.
You need to see.
Burn to the show docking with this last night.
He's been seeing the Vegas show.
And I kind of had an idea of what this might be.
But I still had a, who knows what's going to happen kind of attitude.
I always kind of wanted to see them in Vegas, but I've always asked something else.
Unfortunately, like ca or something like.
I saw Beatles love.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was taken from Royce on that.
But, you know, they're known from the big Vegas show.
But I mean, like you see, they branch out and everything like that.
Visually, this will take you on a trip.
He cannot believe.
It's, they start it so simply with just a.
Tell a, when those tell a message.
Like it's the old LED message.
We have when I was in middle school.
It's exactly that.
It starts with them.
People kind of go there.
And that's already running when you walk into the theater.
Trying to, very creatively telling you how to not use your electronic devices.
Then when it starts, I'll give just a tab and not much.
Okay.
And the drums or something like a drum.
And there are drums involved.
And the lighting is still visually so incredible.
Because they have like the neon paint and how they do the lighting.
It just brights up the drums.
You know, if you're a pound of paints going everywhere.
I have to win the empire.
If you see this thing in the first three rows.
Where are some protection?
They give you a poncho.
Oh, good.
If you're in the first three rows.
Yeah, but yeah.
But not in a gallery.
Don't wear suit or anything.
But, you know, you can't get some paint on you.
But then it just went through this trip.
Which I don't want to go into.
But it's just this year.
Yeah.
It just feels like your senses will be taken to a new level.
They're starting off with the bonkers and the drums.
And I'll send you the music and then on the top.
Which I'm impressed me so much on both sides.
There's two guys in the left.
Two guys in the right.
Right.
Who are playing the instruments and totally different outfits?
Yeah.
They're basically in raised pages on staff.
You've got two drummers.
You've got a keyboard player to get to our player.
And those guys are wearing kind of outfits like that.
It's almost huge.
Future.
It's a strong trooper kind of thing.
Yeah.
Kind of kind of future tribal.
But how they have to paint on them and alighting.
You just see the lights.
It's a visual experience through the whole show that will just take you to new levels.
Where from two minutes until the end.
I was just wow.
The whole time visually.
You and me both.
I really enjoyed every aspect of it.
Whether they were doing paint stuff or whether the band was playing.
And what I really liked about the band is you could tell that they were really having a good time.
And they were into it.
Yeah.
They were totally into it.
And totally everything was was airtight.
Everything was on lock.
Everything played was.
It was driving throughout the show for what they were doing was perfect.
And you never knew what's going to hit next.
And it was kind of because I talked to Doc a little bit afterwards.
This is kind of a greatest hit show of theirs.
Oh, really.
Yes.
Because they did a series.
They did a tour called How to Be a Rockstar.
And a lot of that was incorporating the show.
The rock movements that came from the How to Be a Rockstar tour.
Which you can actually, I've seen it on DVD.
So I recognized that.
And some of this stuff that he said about probably 50 to 60% of what he saw in Vegas
was incorporated into this show.
So it's not all new material if you've seen them before.
But he said it's kind of a different spin on the material he saw in Vegas.
It's like an evolution kind of thing.
And that it was, I mean, this was the only way to describe this is pure,
straight, unadulterated fun.
100% in the lighting, how they changed the lighting throughout the show.
Your senses will just go through with the audio in the visuals.
It will be taken to a new level that it's just a journey that you just go through left and right
and twist and turn that you just love.
And completely interactive.
Oh yeah, if, to the members of the Empire, if you go to the show,
do not be surprised if you end up on stage.
Would you, would you, would you believe it at that?
Would you really add it a whole, another level of funny to it, which I thought was great.
These guys are going through the crowds, downing up on chairs, you know, just interacting
with people who are sitting down.
Then they grab some people and do stuff on stage and we'll leave it at that.
No spoilers.
So the whole crowd gets into this thing.
And they want you to be in, oh yes, yes.
They're told.
Stand up.
Do this move.
Do that move.
Do that move.
Do that move.
To clap like this.
Clap like that.
Then to the sound.
We were lucky enough to hear this in the WinSpirit Opera House, which is just made for audio.
And it's a wonderful wonderful song.
Yeah.
How they do different sounds with PVC pipe and everything else.
And then to band up top, they rocked the place.
Not in that perfect, just like a perfect loud.
Not too loud, but the one that just gets your part pump and going,
I feel like I'm at a rock show this day.
They do love the subwoofer.
So be prepared for it.
Yes, they do.
Be prepared for a lot of bass tones in this particular show.
And the guys of top, they played like you said.
They were so into it.
The band that, in like I call them the starboard trooper outfits.
The neon sport.
They jammed.
And they really fed off of the energy from the audience, which I thought was great as well.
They're so much going on.
You can't get bored.
It's not possible.
There is no intermission.
Like a normal musical production.
There is no intermission in this.
It is an hour 45 straight beginning to end.
Here we go.
And don't be late.
Don't go home.
Yeah.
We'll leave it at that.
You don't be late.
Yeah.
That she wanted to just be like.
Okay.
They might.
Because they do something.
Any criticism.
I have one little one.
Yeah.
There were a couple of technical issues in the show.
There was there's a sequence where they do 2D versus 3D.
Yeah.
One of the characters.
Yeah.
One of the characters.
Whatever.
The sticks they were holding on to didn't light up.
Okay.
There's another part where they play percussion on these large inflatable balls.
One of those didn't light up.
But they mean there were little minor things here and there.
But I mean if I have to have a criticism it was just there were a couple of small technical glitches.
Which didn't take me out of it by a long shot.
Yeah.
I was still to all in.
I was still 150% in.
But if I have to have a criticism.
There were just a couple of technical glitches.
But it was so much technicality.
That's like they were that's like hitting, you know,
990 in baseball for the season.
Yeah.
I mean, yeah.
I mean, I guess it didn't take me out of the corner.
Not by any stretch of these sides.
But in one thing, I'm going to give one little thing.
When they're doing the 2D 3D and you see these guys on the screen.
Stick figures.
And they do the lighting so well.
Like the stick figures start coming out towards you.
You know, you know where the video ended in the actual people.
I mean, then the guys, then the three you think are there.
There's a booming guys.
No.
Then each up and front.
That just kind of.
Your senses will be blown away in such a great way.
It's not even funny.
And unfortunately, we can't give you.
For the kids.
I'm just saying we can't give you stand out performances here because we don't know who's who.
Yeah, we don't know who's who.
Or the band.
So who's the band.
The good news is it's not going to matter.
So that's pretty much anybody you go see this thing.
It's going to be dead on because of the standards that blue men group holds their people too.
And this is good for the entire family.
Oh, absolutely.
There are a lot of kids there.
They're a lot of kids.
They're a lot of kids.
Especially the kids are going to be a lot of teenagers, especially a lot of a lot of younger people.
We noticed that as we were getting ready to go in last night.
A lot of younger, a younger crowd that we're used to seeing when we go to these events at the windspir opera house.
And the place was packed.
Oh, yeah.
Absolutely packed.
Cannot.
So, you know, keep this in mind.
One if this comes to your area.
If you live in DFW area.
This is playing through Sunday the fourth.
Keep that in mind.
They got a couple of more forces.
So it's not here for long.
But keep this review in mind if you ever go to Vegas.
And you never seem to believe.
Or if you're ever in an area where they are.
Or they come to your, yeah, they come to your town or if you're in one of the season.
Because they have more residency than just Vegas.
Yeah, exactly.
Because I went to the website.
And I was like, wow, I thought they were just Vegas too.
And they're not, they even, they've actually moved.
They used to be at one facility in Vegas.
And now they're at another.
Are they okay?
So.
But if you go to Vegas for only towns and you want something, you know,
there's always these shows compete left and right in Vegas.
Keep this review in mind when you're thinking about what show to see if you're getting a plan to trip to Vegas or some of those other cities.
Or if it comes to your town.
Yeah, we have a couple of members of the Empire that live in Vegas.
I'm sure that they haven't checked it out.
They need to.
Exactly.
If this thing comes to anywhere within arms reach of you.
Check this out.
Which leads us into the final analysis.
This is a good one.
Kind of a quick one this week because we can't really dig into like people and things like that because it is what it is.
Since this is a stage production where our final analysis is a little bit different.
It's still a two-prong question.
But the first question is, would you see this production again?
If the answer is no, love then we're done here.
But if the answer is yes, it becomes how would you see this production again?
Well, actually, how are you using this person?
How much would you pay?
No, what level would you set up a balcony, middle, that front row, whatever back right?
How far would you be willing to go to get in the room?
John, would you see this again?
Oh, definitely.
That's what I saw.
What ticket level would you be willing to go for this?
Let's see.
We look at either.
You have like the top balcony, middle balcony.
Jack of the floor, middle floors.
Right, right by the front of the stage.
With the interaction and all that, I would go for front of the stage.
Just close to the stage is possible on this thing.
So you want to be in the classroom for the paint?
Yeah, I'm totally for that.
I'm a little bit less than you on that.
I'd kind of like to be probably in the middle just so I can take everything in.
I'm all about the interactivity of it.
Don't get me wrong.
I just, I'm more of somebody that I want to take in the entire experience.
And I feel like if I'm too close, I'm not going to be able to take in the entire experience,
especially with the LED boards.
Yeah, because if you get too close to an LED board, you can't really see.
I just want everything you've done.
Oh yeah.
To anybody, even if the only ticket center opener, let's see the back row in the floor.
You still have great view.
Absolutely.
You know, we're kind of in the back of the floor.
Which is fine.
We don't care.
We're happy to be in the room.
Totally.
But it looked like they were so close though.
You don't feel you with that far away.
And the sound, no matter where you're out in that place,
this sound is amazing in that opera house.
