Absolutely fabulous.
The movie.

For what we start this whole thing.
We have to think, Julie, everybody.

Based on the smash British comedy hit from the 90s, which also had a very, very healthy run on
Comedy Central here.
I remember the marathons.
The Ab Fab Jams, as they were always called.
There's quite a lot of people that we know that were huge fans of this show.
That were very much looking forward to this.
I mean, it's.
This was a weird thing for me.
This was directed.
I just my.
My computer just froze up on me by Mandy Fletcher, who actually has directed three episodes of the original series itself.
That would make sense.
There were 47 episodes of the original run.
So halfway to syndication pretty much.
Oh, man.
Now depressing.
But I mean, they played the crap out of it here.
Oh, yeah.
Jennifer Saunders.
Joanna Lumley.
They are your mains.
They are Dina and Patsy.
Picking up right where they left off.
I don't know about that.
Well, Adina is a runs a PR firm and Patsy works for a magazine.
Still trying to live the dream.
So.
Adina kind of running on some rough times in her PR career.
Finds out that super model Kate Moss, who I will always remember from the episode of Family Guy.
She turns sideways, fell through a clock crack in the floor.
She might be looking for a new PR firm.
So Patsy's job is having a party that she's going to be at.
Adina joins this party.
Finds the correct, which she thinks is the correct opportunity to talk to Kate Moss.
Accidentally knocks her into the tens.
Never heard from again.
So.
Basically, Adina is accused of killing Kate Moss.
So.
Which is kind of ironic.
She and Patsy decide they're going to go on the run to the south of France.
Now they have no money.
They have nothing to go on.
So they decide.
They're going to find an old flame of Patsy's who said he would wait on her and he's a bajillionaire.
And they're he's going to marry.
They're she's going to marry him.
They're going to live happy that.
After all the money in the world.
And also.
Well.
Well.
Not all.
And that's what we're going to leave it.
This thing is right at an hour thirty.
Really?
Yes.
There's also other people playing themselves in this film.
The great singer Lulu.
Is in this film.
Really.
Gwen Dylan Christie plays herself in this film.
Brianna of Tarth checking in.

You know, some of the other people from the show.
Julia Swalha.
Mo Gaffney plays a bit in here.
A great, very, very funny turn by Jean Paul Gattier.
Which I'm not going to give away.
But I'll tell you about it when we get off air.
Because I thought it was a really well played turn.
And Kate Moss is in there.
There are times.
Some in six years.
That I just.
I'm glad that I don't keep heavy objects on this side of the desk.

So they're kind of in in in in in in in lockstep with each other.
I was a little worried going to this because I'm not afraid to say I never watched an episode of ab that never got into it.
My love of British comedy is very specific.
Yeah.
I ended it about 1983.
Which.
And that's just because I never really watched anything after that.

I was going to gauge my review on the reaction of the crowd.
Because when Don and I went to the screening, you were otherwise occupied and could not make it.
This was a full screen.

Yeah.
Pretty full.
And this is in one of the bigger houses that the great Angelica there in mockingbird station.
Full of people that you could kind of you there was a palpable feeling in the air that there were a lot of fans in the room of the show.
Yeah, you knew that.
I could tell.
So much so that it was almost like we were sitting in the studio audience of a taping of a show because the first time you see Jennifer Saunders.
People are clapping like she's just done her entrance for the first time and other members of the cast.
People were like physically clapping in the audience because I thought I'm going to be so lost watching this.
I'm not going to know nothing.
I kept up with this really well.
I mean, doesn't it make you want to go back and revisit it, kind of?
I honestly don't know.
If BBC America or Comedy Central were decided to do a marathon this weekend and you had nothing else going on.
If I were clicking around and it was on, I might stop down.
Okay.
Just maybe for an episode or two.
I don't know that I could handle 47 episodes.
No, no, no, no.
But it would make you want to go back and but recapture.
Oh, glory.
It's.
I would dare say it is as rude, rude and socially unacceptable as the show had to have been.
There's actually a reference that where art imitates life because I was looking at the.
I was looking at the trivia on IMDB.
Uh huh.
And apparently there was, I mean, I'm actually I'm going to pull up the story because I don't want to screw this story up because it's very, very funny.
Um, do, do, do, do, do.
Where is it?
The movie was finalized as a part of a bet made on the radio.
Jennifer Saunders was determined to get the movie made in order to win a bet with Comedy Partner Dawn French.
And would have to pay her 100,000 euros or 100,000 pounds or had the script in her hand by the end of 2015.
She succeeded in a ladder although when French first properly looked through the script after page 35.
It just said blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
And there's actually a reference to that in the movie, which I don't want to spoil.
But also a baby spice is in this plan herself.
The great Emma Bunton.
Of course.
A lot of great cameos in this.
I had a lot of fun.
However, the man on the other side of the desk.

Let me start off.
First comedy I do love.
You are a big fan.

He's one of my icons in life.
He did not write that in the review.
I did not know that.
But okay.
I'm going to put that in there.
I grew up watching Benny Hill.
I've never heard Benny Hill and icon in the same sentence.
In my personal year.
But walking into this, I never saw the show either.
I'm the first to admit, just like you.
And I thought maybe that was a good thing to go in and see it without, you know,
open mind.
I started watching it and trying to give it a chance, you know,
be open minded.
And after about the first five, ten minutes,
which I put my rate review,

I put on there.

This reminded me of a mix.
Very versatile.
If they did a movie of a mix between
Ruby and Michelle's high score reunion meets
the British version of the Kardashians.
It's chat almost spit Mountain Dew all over his country.
That's why I look at it.
You have a bunch of bumming idiots who don't have any sense.
Kardashians.
Who are spoiled in life who don't have to look for
living in spoiled blah blah blah.
That's my entire Kardashian version.
Yeah.
That's kind of a vacuum.
And it was just, for me,
sponsoring people just act like dumb,
sexual, the idiots mentally.
I just, I didn't find it funny.
I mean, there were a couple of scenes I thought was funny.
And all that stuff.
But.
But.
In the end, I just found out.
The humor stupid and dumb and pointless.
And why watch a bunch of bumming idiots.
I don't want to watch the Kardashians for an hour and a half.
They're sitting in the food court.
The mall sees the same thing.
There's, yes, exactly.
There's something, there seems to be a pattern here.
How many of y'all went to go see the bean movie?
The Mr. Bean movie.
Oh, I see them.
Oh, I did not.
Okay.
And I was never big in the Mr. Bean either, though.
I got the bit and there were moments to it.
But I never really committed.
I never committed to the exact to the, to the bean.
A couple in this film.
British comedy.
Monty Python not was standing.
And the black outer.
Uh, well, but they never tried to make a move.
And downstairs upstairs downstairs downstairs downstairs.
Like my personal favorite recent British comedy is
Mrs. Brown's boys, hysterically funny in small bits.
They did a feature.
They did a feature length film of Mrs. Brown's boys.
And within the first, like you said, done 10 to 12 minutes.
I'm like, this is almost intolerable.
When, when you give them a play, a sandbox that big to play in.
They tend to run out of ideas relatively quickly.
And they just start recycling the same thing for an hour and a half.
And it gets really old, really bad.
And that's where I feel.
And it was, there was a couple of funny scenes in there.
But you could take it in small doses.
Yeah, but I, I, I, I will admit this that visually I loved it.
Cause it showed your very well real life.
You know that the, it showed it as if it was a CG work in this film.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It showed, it showed, you know, Britain very well.
And Kate Moss did do her own stunts by the way.
She started moving.
No, seriously.
Like she really did her own stunts.
Yeah, I believe it.
She fell off the balcony and she did the multiple takes a falling into the
Thames and the whole thing.
And the fall that, the fall that H won't kill her.
I seriously doubt a swim will.
Allegedly.
Allegedly.
Yeah, I will say this.
I'm acting though.
I have to give it out to.
Which is that good to.
Uh, to Donaldson Holdness, who plays the daughter that, like,
12 year old African American daughter.
Oh, I know you tell.
You tell him about Lola.
Yeah, Lola.
In the yard of Donaldson Holdness.
Yeah.
Yes.
She, I thought she played the role well.
I thought she's a good actor.
That's her first film.
And I thought she did incredible for being the first film.
So she gets, but beyond that, the risk of acting.
But I think what worked for her so well is she knew where her lane was and she stayed in her lane.
Yes.
She knew that she was just kind of supposed to play the catalyst that kept the thing moving.
Yeah, but she could have gotten swallowed up by those two really, really quick.
But again, she knew the, yeah, she knew the, the give and take.
Yeah.
Uh, for being the first.
When we press me on that.
She could have been part of the scenery.
Beyond that, I have.
And see, for me, if it had just been people that are just mean and all that,
I'm not big into that.
Neither am I.
But when people, and it's, it's where you chat and I differ on shows like the league.
Or it's always sunny and fill it up.
Oh, God.
Yes.
These are horrible horrible people.
But they did their just do.
It's not like they're horrible people when everything's rosy.
Like, they're horrible people.
And they get it returned to them 10 fold in some cases.
Yeah, but that doesn't mean I got, I'm, I'm entertained watching it.
To me, I'm just like, okay, so even though they get their come up and I'm like,
I didn't want to see in the first place.
But I really, really had fun watching isn't I really had fun watching the audience.
Because I know that there's references in there that went way over my head.
They probably applied to the series.
But it wasn't so bad that.
I was like, I got another, you know what I mean?
Like, when you, if you see Serenity before you see Firefly,
without the deleted scenes, you really don't know what's going on.
Right.
When you watch the deleted scenes on the, on the blue ray or the DVD for Serenity,
like I said there and I'm like, why didn't just put these in the film because it,
it fills in the holes for people that never watched the series.
Yeah.
They could have easily have done that here, but they didn't.
They really kind of explained to you what's going on in the motivations behind people.
And it, to me, it's just a lot of fun.
And for me, some of the studios are great.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, I thought that was good.
Yeah.
It's kind of like, I hate to say it.
Not a cups.
A ton of cami.
It was better than night of cups.
So I'm going to let him know.
Don't let him fool you.

But I'm seeing it.

It was like in the cup.
Yeah.
There's Fabio for 10 seconds and all that other.
Watching home videos of a homeless cat is more entertaining than night of cups.
What about a cat hugging a piece of pizza?
Yeah.
I mean, I mean, that kind of goes without saying.
But I disagree.
And you know, that's fine.
I just found it.
Yeah.

This reminds me too much of the Kardashians.
Idiot.

It sounds pretty cut and dried.

The dollar theater.
Down to venturing away from your house.
And getting it from red box.
Venturing the streaming on Netflix.

It's going to make my probably make my top 10 worst of the year.

Because it's it's pretty cutting dry.
When we say, would we see it again?

I can't turkey this thing.
Because I was truly entertained.
I laughed out loud on more than one occasion.
I think it's one of those cases where you wouldn't seek it out.
But if it if you happen to cross paths.
But if it or even if I was with a group of people that were fans of the series.
Now, that would be what you want to sit down and watch it.
I'd be like, you know what?
Yeah.
But understand.
I'm going to be asking a lot of questions for the next hour and a half.
This seems like it would be a great remote in your hand.
It'd be prepared to pause.
It seemed like it'd be a great thing to view at the draft house.
At an event environment like the draft house.

That seems like it'd be a better show.
Or maybe like since it's only an hour and a half play an episode or two before.
Right.
Something that hand pick a couple of episodes of the fans vote on and then show the movie.

I love that stuff.

The one of the ice companies.
