I am the executive producer of the Clubhouse podcast, and I fancy myself a music lover.
Joining me across the desk as he tends to do from time to time is the official fact checker
of the show, and a man who, when he was younger, he had a boom box.
He carried it around town.
You may know it was fun, don't go, but it's my name, I'm Don Ford, I'm gonna call him

I actually did have a boom box, and I did carry it around.
Was it one of those, like you got to stretch your arm to get away all the way around it?
Yeah, and I kind of had to put it on, yeah, it was more, it wasn't like the big rectangle
as more of a 12 by 12 longer kind of thing, but I did, and it had this cassette tape
of like scorpions, love it for staying, and all that, and did record it, and all that.
And yes, that's a mental image that you'll have with you for the rest of the day.
Whenever we do one of these, it is to review something, and this is no exception.
Bradley Cooper is not only in the director's chair.
Not only co-wrote, but he also stars with Lady Gaga in the fourth screen version of
a star's born.
So, before we start this whole thing, yes, sir, we gotta thank JT and everybody at Levinson
for the invite.

saw this one.

Two hours and 15 minutes, put a pin in it.
So, Bradley Cooper plays Jackson Mane, playing the, for those of you that remember the
version in the 70s, with Chris Christoffer sent in Barbara Streisand, because you know
people who need people are the luckiest people in the world, not from that movie.
And Lady Gaga playing the Barbara Streisand role as Ali, a young lady who is, has a beautiful
voice, but just can't seem to catch a break, and he hears her during a drunken stupor at
a bar one night, decides that he's gonna make her a star, and how basically one light
fades and another one shines.
Two hours and 15 minutes!
Put a pin in it.
Well, the one in the 70s was about the same length, wasn't it?
I don't care.
It's a safe basic plot in a way.
Well, that's why it's a remake done, yeah, but it's the fourth time we've done it, and
originally, because you know I'm a big Bradley Cooper fan, loved him since Alias, and
one of his Alias co-stars is in this.
And an interesting supporting cast here, you've got Sam Elliott, Bief, to which he's
a fan.
I can't.
You know I like him?
Yeah, he rocks.
So says the fighting philosopher.
And then you've also got Dave Chappelle, who's in it about as long as it took me to say
the sentence.
You have Andrew Dice Clay, playing Alie's father, like, is that still like, okay, let me
put this perspective.
The one in the 50s was two hours and 34 minutes.
The one in the 70s, but that was Garland in it.
If I'm just saying, now all the stars have warmed, this is the second shortest.
And it's still ain't short enough.
I can't even bury the lead on how annoyed I am about this film.
You need a hug.
No, I need this movie to not exist is what you need.
And I enjoy the Lady Gaga.
I think she's very talented.
I have said for years she doesn't need the bit because she has a beautiful voice.
If you listen to the album she did with Tony Bennett, she's got a gorgeous voice.
She doesn't need the meat dress, you know, and the weird hair and everything else.
She's got talent.
This movie is terrible.
This movie is terrible and I don't understand what I'm missing here because it's 95% of
Rotten Tomatoes as we record this, yeah, after like 80 reviews.
I ain't one of them.
I, this movie, like, made me angry.
If I drove my car in reverse in a school zone, it would still move faster than this film.
He's a drunk.
We get it.
He has the demons.
He does the pills too.
We can't forget that point.
That's a very important point.
Like, and again, I'm a huge Bradley Cooper fan.
I support this man and I still do.
Everybody has their issues.
I mean, silver linings, playbook, I mean, come on.
But if you're going to remake a film for the film, or not huge fans up to begin with,
bring yourself to it.
It was like, he was just like, I'm just going to do my best Chris Christophe or Santa
impersonation for two and a half hours.
And I'm going to throw a little bit of my Sam Elliott in there because we're supposed
to people, we're people that are related, like, this movie is terrible.
Like I would say steaming pile, but that's not, that's still not doing a justice.
I was angry when they end credits, right?
The only thing I will say that I enjoyed about this film, is it ended?
Is the music.
Okay.
I would own the soundtrack.
And we did see this in Dolby Cinema.
Those live music sequences in the Dolby Cinema, they hit that kick drum and it hit me
square in a middle chest.
Oh yeah.

But when they read my review, they read my review first, before hearing this, they'll
understand it.
But they still would have heard me say it before you said it.

So, I put my review that scene in Dolby, that really enhanced the film for me.
I know when they're alive at concert and stuff, and that first scene hits, first scene,
he walks out on stage.
When that happens, I'm like, you know, whoa, you have my attention.
And then, that's the next two hours and ten minutes.
That's me.
I am so angry about this film.
This is two hours and fifteen minutes of my life, I will never get back.
Now, for me, and we have different appearance, as we do from time to time, it's fine.
This film, and I could put my review again at www.thecopastpodcast.com, still our website.
I put that yes, this film is long, it is too long, fifteen, twenty, thirty minutes could
have been cut out, and it took too long to get there.
But the plot still kind of kept me interested, but it was predictable too.
You knew it was going to happen, she's going to get famous, because I never saw any of
the original stars and more.
This is my first, the star is born, maybe that's the thing, yeah, I know.
But I did kind of put on there that the, yes, it's long, but the plot still had a good
plot overall, but it dragged it, dragged it, dragged it, dragged it.
But the Dolby made it for me, and how they sung.
This was not lip-seeking.
This is not Whitney Houston at the Super Bowl lip-seeking.
This is them singing on stage live, and they did everything.
They did everything.
Per insistence.
Yeah, and like that riff at the Roy Orbison thing, and he just starts even though he's
high as a kite and trunk as a skunk, how to get up there and just do that riff of the
pretty woman.
I mean, it was like, this is rocket, I really enjoyed that part of the film.
The music is incredible, I really loved it.
And for me for Cooper, I know you're Reagan on him and I love me Bradley Cooper. Just like you do
Incredible. He has incredible resume. He's done some incredible stuff from sniper to you name it
I enjoy sniper. I mean American sniper. Oh, American sniper. Yeah, I just heard sniper and I was like
Yeah, I like to remove like 20 years early. Yeah, American sniper, but
He I really thought his performance was impressive myself
How he could play that guy with all the demons. He has the rock star demons how he's able to get around and
Just show that persona of a guy who he's almost in the alternate universe in some ways
Because everything's done for him because he's the big rock star
I just do is go on stage which he could do it even if he's drunk as a skunk and kill the crowd which he does
But how he had that mentality how he had that stippleness to him and in a way
He was kind of living in alternate world where because people with fame and stuff. It's a different world
This film really shows the dark side of the young lady who has an album called the fame monster
Yeah, but I mean it really shows the backstage live but really shows the life of the rock star in the hotel room
But I was really impressed with with Cooper's performance lady Gaga out of her realm
I thought she was great. Yeah, she and this was she does a great. I thought but I thought they had no chemistry did like
They they just were missing something on there when it comes to them together
I didn't see them as a couple in love. Yes
You can see their relationship grow on film and all that stuff
But I didn't see it like this is love love love out there some some people are able to do in some films
But I was impressed with Cooper. I can he hit it out of the park asked the question that you haven't asked me in a very very long time
Watch gauge 15 minutes
Was it every five ten minutes after that pretty much so this is almost as bad as the Terrence Malik
It's in the ballpark Terrence Malik was 10 you're at 15 on this
Okay, which one would you watch this or song to song?
I would still watch this again, and I like the comparison there because it's a music thing
I would still watch this first because you know my hatred for Terrence Malik. Yeah
That we have for him mere god this movie's bad like it's just I feel like
They tried really really hard
Yeah, but I ain't given participation troopers in here. I didn't hear but it was too long
But I was impressed with Cooper and I hate to say it. You're not gonna want to hear this
But I think I think next year they're gonna have his name talking when it comes to those nominations survey well
But this movie's just bad. It's just bad and what happens if it gets not made for best picture
Well, you want to like put your head through that wall. No, I'll just I'll
What I'll do is I will declare shenanigans. That's what I'll do or best director possibly
I gotta give this was his first this was his first directorial W
I mean, this is the first time he's actually you know what I'll say if that happens. I'll say this
You have it a lot. Is he have it a lot? That's what I will say all right
That's how I feel
I think this there's gonna be the nomination toxic here
And I'm gonna tell you something I like I could do two and a half hour like this myself
But I probably have to do it only about ten minutes at a time because it would flash my voice
I can do that
Beef it's what's for dinner, but if you like I can do that
But if you like if you like music you might like to start this film who are you talking to I know I know I know I know
Have we met I know I'm just saying to the people out there if you like music
I I get I would own the soundtrack the soundtrack is great
And I mean he did I will say you know from what I've read I mean Cooper did the work. Yeah, it's just not good
I mean Lucas Nelson who is the son of Willie Nelson worked with him and that's his band
Yeah, Lucas Nelson and the promise of the real. Yeah, that's Willie Nelson's kid. Yeah, that he worked with on that
Did he do the guitar too? He learned how to play guitar?
So that was him on stage for a year he learned how to play guitar so he could play it right. Yeah, I mean
I get I will give credit where credit to Cooper put in the work. It just there's no payoff for me. Okay

It was so bad
For me it's too long, but I like Cooper's performance. I mean I can we don't always wait in the fact if we agreed all the time
There'd be one of us be lying. Yeah
I think what we want to talk about forget the file analysis I can take a coilood or something

Running seared as a great movie. Okay, let's get this done with the way we do the file analysis on the show
