Welcome, my name is Rob, I am the Executive Producer of the Clubhouse Podcast, and I like
cake, I'm just saying, by the way this is a home drone, number 448, close to a milestone.
Sitting across the desk for me is my co-host, and a man that likes to have a laugh every
once in a while, he is Chad, welcome sir, I do indeed sir, rounding out the dais is the
official fact checker of this show, and a man who is his wife's favorite, you may know
him as Fondango or IMMOO!
His mom and even Don Ford, I'm a calm Don Ford, what's up sir?
Favorite what?
My wife's favorite.
Can't you just be her favorite and be done with it?
I don't know.
Why do you have to classify yourself?

Go contain yourself, don't put yourself in a pigeonhole sir, you can just be her favorite
period, and that can be okay.
Okay, whatever we do, one of these things, it is to review something, this is no different.
The director of the lobster and the killing of a sacred deer is back, he is Yorgos Lentimos,
I think I nailed that, and it's called the favorite, for sure this whole madness.

They let us see movies and stuff early so we can talk to you about them and stuff.
That's right, that was a technical term, you heard me.
Yeah.
Here's what you need to know, it's the 18th century, it's England, it might be London,
you don't know?
I mean I'm assuming it is because it deals with Queen Anne and that where she lived.
I think so, yeah.
So Olivia Coleman who ironically plays QE2 on the crown, this is true, yes.
This is Queen Anne here and we are in the middle of the war with France because the French,
and so she, and this is based on actual events, I'm going to go ahead and say loosely based
on actual events.
So we're at the war with France and she has her top aid, Lady Sarah, played by the great
Rachel vice, right on, there's no, I'm the congratulations, Rob, you are now the one
millionth caller to use that particular joke, you think.
They are very, very close, she is, she is her confidant and this is the point where
Queen Anne is dealing with her sickness, the sickness is really starting to settle in.
So she's kind of working in Queen Anne's stead, although we're not sure Queen Anne knows
the extent they're in, right.
So a carriage shows up and inside said carriage is Abigail played by the great Emma Stone.
She is Lady Sarah's cousin and her family, she used to be a lady but her family has fallen
from grace.
So she comes to the castle to ask to be employed by her cousin, alright.
Her cousin agrees, lets her scrub flourish and stuff, and one day when Queen Anne has
a particular bout with Gout, I'm going to pull it and didn't know it but my feature
show it because they're long fellows, I need this, you're welcome America, no, I need
the failing one, I'm telling that joke since I was 12.
She goes into the woods and creates this concoction that helps Sue the burning of the
Gout in her legs, which then starts to gain her favor with Lady Sarah.
So then she decides she wants to be returned to her former glory and now we have a nice
little attention triangle between Queen Anne, Lady Sarah and Abigail.
This runs right at two hours.
The only way I can describe this film, and I say this in my written review currently

If dangerously A-zons are all about Eve, because Rachel Weiss compares it to all about
Eve, was directed and written by a modern version of Monty Python, because this is simply
put, this is British farce, it's the only way I can put it.
So knowing that going in and I'm kind of holding on to Don because Don's got some very strong
opinions here and I know because I've read his review.
This is not going to be for a mass audience.
Because this is a film for people who study film, without being like, it's not Bergman.
Thank God.
Yeah.
You guys, it's a well-documented on the show, my feeling is not Bergman, but it's deaf,
it's not an indie film because it's done on a very grandiose scale.
I don't know exactly.
Don, would you mind pulling this up on maybe the pdf of what you can see if you can find
the budget on this?
Because it doesn't feel like an indie film at all, because it's very, very grand, grandly
presented visually, beautiful, costuming, great locations.
Would you kind of put this on the same thing?
What would you guess it was?
35 million.
Minus 20 of that.
That was 15 million dollar budget.
That's impressive.
Yeah.
Would you put this on the same vein as like the death of Stalin maybe?
I haven't seen this death of Stalin yet, but from what I know of it, you could death,
that's definitely a good comparison.
Don, did you see that?

Yeah, what do you mean by say, well, it was, would you put this movie kind of in the
same category?

Right, but you put them in the same ballpark, basically.
Well, one is more deals.
This is a very risk-game movie.
Right, but I think it's a heart of it.
The other one is more of a comedy.
This is just going nuts, so this is more of an evil trying to buy very adult film.
Okay.
Am I kidding?
There's definitely, but not your normal history film.
This gets dark and dirty.
Yeah.
Well, it brings up some historic points.
Right.
Yeah.
It's very over-sexualized, but it was England in the 18th century.
Yeah.
It couldn't have been the game.
The thing about Lanthimos and the way he shoots this, there are just random moments where
he's shooting with a fisheye camera, which works in a couple of places, but it doesn't
work every time he does it.
Like there's a shot where Emma Stone's character is running down a hall and she's running
from screen right to screen left, and he shoots it with that fisheye.
So it looked kind of cool.
But yeah, there's a couple times when it was the borderline on Adnazium for me.
I'm trying to wait.

Terrence Malik the thing a little bit, not that far.
Well, I think so.
I would still watch this before I watch Terrence Malik film again.
Oh, yeah.
So what I, yeah.
And Don and I, when we get to the Final Analysis, we're going to be a lot different.
Oh, boy.
And Don, I am prepared after reading your review to do what your review says to do.
So we're good there.
Yeah, okay.
I enjoyed this film. It's a little long and I think Don you'll agree with me on that.
Yeah, it weighs itself down because there's a lot of layers to this story and I think he wanted to cover everything
It didn't want to cut anything, right?
I would have I could have cut 15 to 20 minutes out of it and still enjoyed it as much as I did
But it definitely weighs itself down at a certain point and I'm gonna save my my last
Evaluate Tory point because it's something that Don and I probably the only thing about this film that Don and I agree on
Oh, okay, so Don I'm going to go ahead and throw to ball to you. Okay talk about this film
All right, yes, this is kind of based on history and I kind of read the Wikipedia
After the fact the Wikipedia I called the Wikipedia. No, this is you can't buy this if you're one
I hate
Or world markets still my language or whatever that earthbound trading company

Back to yeah, I know but I'm about to eat all right on this film
I watched the trailer and I don't do that too often or watch the whole thing and if you do a lot of times
It's like right before yeah, and this film it seemed more of a little
Comedy and there were some comedy moments in this film there a couple, but I laughed out loud more than the ones
Yeah, but it's a little comedy with the maybe 95% serious 5% comedy I thought in this film
Okay, I would have waited differently, but okay, but maybe even 10. I'll give it 10 okay turn up
But this film
Is like you said very over sexualized too much
And in my thing is what there is the let's just I'm the minor spoiler hold on
Yeah, you got to warn me when you're gonna do that because I got to go to a different page to do that yeah

I'd like to say that it deals with
Queen Anne in the bisexuality is it true?
Who knows I don't even read anything up. I think it's played
I've actually seen this referred to as satire and it plays to the satire angle of it
Yeah, but the relationship between Sarah and Abigail
Trying to vibe for the Queen's love in sexuality was too much of the film
It like we just recently saw a film about
Traveling's music man
And it talked about sexuality, but it did it with some hints here there a few scenes
This one it's the sexuality in the bed the whole kit and caboodle
I'm trying to buy to be your precious heart and your lover and all this other stuff
I would say I've seen it too too much. I think they have too much of that in there
It didn't bother me so much because I've seen tons worse. Yeah, I've seen so well
I thought it was too much of that
But it's a big part in the rivalry I mean it does and so that I guess that's why for me
It didn't bother me as much as it bothered you. I think it was too much of that
Um, I did like how they tried to vine how they could be evolved the pot you have to watch this it can't get
complicated. Yes, yes
Another thing I did not like about it like the ending. I'm like
See that's that's what I wanted to talk about because I could we're like I could someone explain if you're if you're looking for
Um, what am I looking for if you're looking for resolution
You kind of get it, but you kind of don't depending on who the character is and we're we're being a couple
You know critics and stuff. We're talking after like our good friend Cynthia Jordan friend of the show
So we love greatly. Yeah, so we're going back to her and I'm kind of
Okay, so much fun to me and we're kind of I don't maybe it was this maybe it was that
But it ended abruptly with the black screen. I'm like that's I wondered
If there was some kind of special instructions with the print because
How often do we go to a film and the lights don't come up until the credits are done
You know, I mean yeah single so I was a way it's film project where we're in the show
I was a projectionist in high school and when we would put our movies together
There was a small role of silver tape
And you would put this small role of silver tape on the edge of the film
So when it ran through the projector if it was on one side of the film it queued the projector to bring the lights up
Okay, if it was on the other side of the projector
It was to turn off the aperture so the rest of the film could go through you didn't get the
At the end, okay, it's all digital now it doesn't really matter
But a lot of times projections would forget to do it and so the lights wouldn't come up to the projector stopped
We go to black the lights were up
I mean like I feel I feel like there were specific instructions to the projectionist to make sure that happened because this thing is going and
All of a sudden black screen lights on and then credit star
I'm like here comes Elton John singing and I'm like that's the engine
Yeah, and I could try to figure out what they're trying to make with the points
Especially with I'm gonna say is my nice little pet
Um to be spoiler free, but it was just the ending yeah, yeah
It was really just it was very hard weird this film was just best way to put to get in my written review is this film is
weird
I try I could see they're trying to buy and all that but there's a lot of weirdness with this film
It's not anything like what the trailers trying to portray it as now. There's one thing about this film
Which I'm gonna give one of the highest compliments. I have ever again, and you do in your written reviews

You know how I'm a stickler on sets being historically correct, right?
He is captain historical accuracy
This one is probably my top two or one of historical
Acreses in this film
When there were night scenes and are walking down the halls
It was just the candle lights and they filmed it as if you're walking down the halls during that time
It's shot very well
There's no yeah, like they have the you know lots of films. They have this castle at night and there's candles
But you could tell they put a ton of lighting in
But this one saying no, this is what it was like in these even in these castles with all the wealth
There were candles everywhere and still it was darkest can be all around you and shout out to Robbie Ryan
Your cinematographer on this. Yeah, not no lights nothing nowhere during the night. I that was really
I really liked how they kind of portrayed that of just the light of the candles in the castle
That's why I was shocked when you said it was a $15 million budget. Yeah, I mean this it is shot gorgeously costume design
Did rock solid a million of that was a million of that was probably the candles
Buddy
I'm your boy, but I I enjoyed this film
But I can understand how this probably won't be enjoyed by a mass audience
But I will say a couple of acting shout-outs
Olivia Coleman's amazing in this. Yeah, she crushes it. Yeah
Especially as the madness begins to kind of take her over more so
There's a moment where she just absolutely completely wigs out and
More than once. Yeah, but there's one big scene which was it's brilliant
When she does running down the hall. Oh, yeah brilliant. Yeah, done
Also, if I say so if I say the name Nicholas Holt. Does that mean anything to you? Absolutely
He plays a character named Harley in this who is a
member of I think he's like he wants to be part of the elite. He has the money, but not the power
and
Sarah through the queen
Really the queen through Sarah technically is like doubling the land tax to pay for the military to fight the war in France
And so he's lobbying to get the queen to repeal the tax because it's breaking the back of the people that own the land
He is great in this the man's guy. I mean, I've been a fan of his server since what was it?
Many would know him as beast from X-Men first class before and he was kind of almost like the Mr. Jennifer Lawrence for a while
They were dating for a while, but you know
That zombie Rome a romcom of oh was a hands-cold heart or something? No, it's I think it was called warm heart
It was a play on that I can't remember exactly what it was, but he was really really had in that asked me
I could have told you it's one of those
But warm bodies is an amulet acting. I could see
Some nominations because I think this is one of those Oscar fufu films one of these Oscar bait films for
cinematography
four sets
fours cost to me okay for acting
It's they try to realm it towards that, but do you I honestly don't think that Emma Stone
Emma she was good. She's good, but I she never quite commits to the axe
And I
Do I think she deserves the whole that this the statues next year? No, she's very good
Yeah, she's good, but I think because this is one of those films gear towards appeasing the
The the people who nominate people for certain industry
Right. Yeah, that I think they make it some nominations just because they're catering towards trying to be an Oscar bait film
I hate to say it acting was good, but it's not their best roles
I thought Coleman and Holt were you're choosing to dance and shout out to Horatio the fastest duck in the city
Oh, yeah, that's actually listed in the credits. Yeah, so yeah, anything else chatted questions that you might have
No, thank you pretty much covered it, but this was just
Weird for me. It wasn't odd film
It's very weird. That's fun. It was fun to me
It had a plot in like your Terence Malik film. I would watch this over Terence Malik film. That's good news
But that's not saying much. Oh, then let's get to the file analysis talk about the way we do the file analysis on the show
We're not going to give you thumbs up thumbs down. Let it grades numbers anything like that

You'll understand when you see the film Chuck ducks. Yeah, ducks
There'll be up to two questions question number one is would we see this film again if the answers know then we're done here
But if the answers yes, it turns into how would we see it again from the best of the best of the worst of the best here's out roles
Full price to the theater down to twilight showing down to matinee down to early morning on a weekend down to second run at the dollar theater
Down to actually leaving your house to get it for red box down to streaming on Netflix down to cable

However, I wanted to give this the big no, but because of the sets being one of the best I've ever seen and the acting was good
