Greetings Empire member and or members if you're hearing the voice in front of you right
now let's go around the day is
in the co-host chair is a man that you would not be surprised to see in this film he is out so
welcome sir this is gonna end badly running out the days to see official fact checker of this show
and a man who probably says that a lot you a male is Igboonu but his mom and even Don Ford
I'm gonna call him Don Ford what's going on dude I'm surprised
hi I'm here okay fair enough whenever we do one of these it is to review something because this
is a home show number 465 for those of you playing the home game you crushed that one
yeah I just got to call it I worked on that today okay I really did work on that uh
Jim Jarmusch a man who loves Bill Murray almost as much as uh as Wes Anderson does
it's time to talk about the dead don't die for sure it's something yes sir I think Julian
here made it marock for the invite what's up marock oh I almost had one today and I forgot it okay
we're gonna get them something new I'm working on it okay
hey if they if they ever did a movie about a classical composer could it be marock me on a
day is marock me out I'm just saying okay if you want to marock this is the time where I wish we
all had dropped no we tried that one and we turned it down that's what I want that has been by you
we're gonna do a vote we're not doing them what smell with the marock is cooking that's not gonna
happen I wasn't gonna go that far would yeah no no no no no no but we love our vendors they get
they let us see movies like I saw this one away back like I saw this like two weeks before you
guys did yeah you did and you couldn't wait we're gonna talk about it right now but our vendors
let us see movies early so we can talk to you guys about them so you can make the best possible
decisions for your entertainment dollar so we are in this small town of centerville pencil
ain't it yep that where we are a nice place to live it is a nice place to live and
we're dealing with the the police chief Cliff Robertson
played by the great bill Murray and his sidekick officer Ronnie Peterson played by Adam Driver
they are they are they know really and there's some strange goings on in centerville because
there has been fracking of the polar ice caps which is causing things to happen in the in the
rotation of the earth animals are acting funny as we are getting reports from Posey Juarez
Rosie Perez why was I the only person that laughed at I did go like a schoolgirl at my
screening at this I I genuinely had Sean ask me why was that funny I'm just gonna move along
that that's like just me just me just me is no seeing this it's a juxtaposition okay never mind
uh which is now causing the dead to come to life and that's all I'm willing to say this
everybody in their brother is in this thing either I know it sounds bad to say there may be too
many people Tom Waits who may or may not be acting we don't know Tom Waits who is the longest
tenured person working with Jim Charmouch this is what let's see
Chloe Seventy is in this Debushemi is in this Danny Glover
put it in your mouth he's in this uh the Rizza is in this which I'm very excited about I'm a big fan
of the Rizza Caleb Landry Jones is in this doing his best of Daniel Bradcliffe for some reason
there's a little bit of Danny Ruddcliffe there's a little bit of Buffalo Bill in there
Carol Potter was in it no no Caleb Landry Jones looked a lot like him in this okay he had the glasses
okay the gas station okay because I say you said Danny Daniel Ruddcliffe that's isn't that
Harry Potter okay so let's go back a little bit when I said Caleb Landry Jones is in this doing his
best Daniel Bradcliffe oh okay okay I see okay okay welcome back to the show Don okay
uh till the Swinton is in this Carol Cain is in this Iggy Pop is in this Selena Gomez is in this
uh Sturgial Simpson does the theme song and is in this
I love this movie and if you're seeing that like wait a minute Rob you love the zombie movie
it is so much more than that but this is another one of those mine field reviews yes it is
that if I say more than three sentences I am on my way to spoiler fill on the bullet train
I do love that um the production company in this is was it take the head productions
kill the head kill the head kill the head productions because this is a zombie movie
added core but it's so much more than that and I even went at because I didn't watch the trailers
until after I saw the film I just I was very of like I'm why would I do this like there's a movie
coming up yeah that we're gonna be that that will be screened not by me because it's a two-hour
and twenty-minute horror film no I'm out no thank you don't do horror movies and then I saw this
the dead don't die well and then I went to IMDB and I saw another genre attached to it
and I said okay if you can put these two things together and it's an hour and forty minutes
I will roll with you and the best way I saw it was listen as bleak comedy here's my thing if you pay
attention you know what's coming yes at the pen ultimate moment of this film I did something
that I do not do and luckily the screening I went to was press only so there was maybe fifteen
of us in the theater I had an outburst would you like to clarify your outburst no no no what I'm
let me let me rephrase would you like to clarify that this wasn't an outburst of laughter but a
statement it was it was an emotional release yes that afterwards friend of the show got a
icon walked up to me he said my favorite part of the whole thing is when you said that
but I really enjoyed this movie now now I talked to friend of the show Jim Braggle
and he said so because I was explaining it to him because he wanted he wanted all the details
and he said so is this like a zombie movie if it had been done by West Anderson because
West Anderson and Jim Jarmoosh seemed to become becoming the same person and I said you know what
that's has anybody ever seen them in the same place at the same I can neither confirm or deny
and we know he loves Bill Murray and we know he loves Adam driver because and Don has seen this
other film too he directed Patterson with Adam driver in it last year which was not one of my
favorite films but it was good for what it was I've really enjoyed this basically the entire cast
has done something with Jarmoosh before well and there's there's a lot of characters and
kind of like remember when Independence Day came out and they basically told you don't bet on
anybody there are very very well known actors in this that aren't going to make it
that's the way and that's what I really loved about it because I spent a lot of time going I
think that no okay maybe not you know but there's an interesting parallel to this with the walking
dead if I may because the idea that's all you I understand that but the idea is they're both
zombie in base uh-huh and anybody could go at any time and and I know we were talking in
pre-show and Don you can you can lean towards the microphone it's okay I'm waiting you get
no because I'm bringing you into the conversation on this okay I'm I'm waiting no no I know
and you do and I appreciate that but this is where I need you as part of the conversation because
one of the things that I really dug about it you really didn't and it was really kind of the
presentation of the characters for lack of a better term and I'm selling you this and there's
no pun intended but I know it's coming everybody's kind of deadpan in this yes but you you didn't
dig that part of it no not at all go ahead I mean this is just no no I want you to be a part of
the conversations like you get your piece out now I want to do my piece on this okay I hated
this film I know you did I hated it I hated it I hated it I hated it I went in because I love
zombie films I love you do or Z I love all those other ones comedy ones zombie land I love them
but yeah it's sequel to zombie land very soon I know that okay I was not sure if you were
oh yeah yeah yeah yeah it's already in production but yeah so I'm pumped on that but I
went in looking at the cast I figured hey Bill Murray dig great in zombie land I'm thinking hey
I had a high expectations I'm thinking I'm gonna love this too now much I could tell that you
loved it but didn't give anything away excuse me wait my problem is this thing starts at a
snail's pace and it goes for a snail's pace during the whole film you're right it takes about
an hour before you really see the zombies really when you think about it no you're right you're
absolutely right and my issue is you talk about the thing is which I said pre-show is even drivers
in merit Murray's character the whole time even when chaos is breaking outside they act like
they're on reddle in the whole time but I really don't know I hated that I know you did
and we agreed all I agree let me I'm still gonna I'm gonna get my words out you're good
that's why I'm just raising his hand because it was a response and even when chaos is hitting
as the chief of police you're not just gonna go let's drive around oh well someone's being killed
I'm just gonna keep driving around they had no like what are you gonna do what are you gonna
react to this instead just let's just drive around what was the point of it what was the point of it
and my big beef is they had some good comedy here there they had those little quirk jokes and
even to go out of character and say well careful careful yeah we're gonna have to take that out
yeah we are because that's a huge spoiler yeah but there's there's an element to it but doing
doing it once or twice in this hasn't been spoiler for I mean because I'm not giving much
away on this I I actually leave it in because here's my problem doing it once or twice in the film
is fine but doing it five six times throughout the film that is it it ran its course it got stupid
after a while I'm going to say and then the ending I can even stand in eating him clarity at the
ending on the whole thing mine I just left this thing going what was the point of this thing it was
boring yes snails pace it's supposed to be a bomb zombie film and he acted the exact same
opposite what happened if the zombies weren't to attack I hated it I still taking the spoiler out
because that is the spoiler that's a huge spoiler because that that part of it is should we
restart no no no no no we're gonna keep going because everything know everything else he's
you know he's absolutely but that piece of it we're going to take out because that's
again that's a huge part of it that I I don't want people to know about when they see it
so to rebut on the the deadpan that you were talking about that you didn't like and that you
are excuse me that don't didn't like and rob like I enjoyed auditory medium what I included in my
review located at www dot the clubhouse podcast dot com that's our website was that that was
actually a we're having issues with the button okay now I get it but they use that as a plot
device and it that's bordering on spoiler but if you notice there's a certain thing well we took
out it's but yeah this is what we're what but they use the deadpan as part of the story if you
notice a particular action correct I I know I danced on the edge of spoiler town with that one
so I don't know how quite it got left in if at all but that is very much a part of the plot device
but what what what will be muted there will be a muted point of this or I may just take it out
together I don't know but yes that is a plot device and that's why that's why it's a spoiler
but I do this too much once or twice is okay but without but without saying what yeah I'm just
talking about the deadpan yeah yeah the deadpan yeah it's the I thought it was a very very intelligent
move by the people making the film even if the entire movie was basically stupid zombie it made me
like once or twice this one but doing it six seven times not around the course but that made me laugh
even more because I was just like because of the absurdity of it all I will the entire there was
some good there was some good comedy points here or there I'm gonna say is key chain I love that
yeah that was that was a very funny yeah I don't maintain that question off air and if anybody wants
if anybody wants to ask me what that question was I am at vexpoil on Twitter I will be happy to
discuss and DM with you but that's an off air but another another issue I have is the suspension
from disbelief of a zombie film is beyond belief on this I want you I want you to just listen to
what you just said the suspension of disbelief in a zombie film you already have a level of
suspension because it's okay this was a vampire film it would kind of be like the same thing of
vampires like stupid Twilight films of vampires outside all day every day in the sunlight
and garlic doesn't kill myself that's the suspension you're talking about the suspension
of disbelief as in the rules for the universe yes okay yeah that that but see you can when things
are fictional you can do whatever you want right but there's still that baseline like vampires can't
go outside the middle of the day and at high noon under the sun and suntan I believe Monty Python
would beg to differ I mean but see that but see that's the thing is there are no rules anymore
there haven't been free years but even how they reacted during it I thought that was part of
the charm of it was it was funny of the because you're anticipating them reacting in panic state
and the response is isn't that farmer right the scene outside the diner alone yes someone's
I loved it the animal on the table police someone's being killed oh well that's nice
but but that's also kind of where Jeremy's is going he doesn't put a lot of emotions into things
and to me it adds to the absurdity of it which I really really doubt and I hate it and it's funny
that he went to vampire with the rules of it did you hear this backstory on where they got this
idea to make that they don't die when he was directing Tom Hiddleston until the swinton in only
lovers left alive which which is a vampire film till the swinton came up with the idea of maybe
we should just make a zombie movie but make it fun she's great she is really really good when she's
first introduced I was like what what are we what are we doing here this oak okay but it all just
kind of works itself to where it goes it that is the thing you so many subtle little things that
build to the oh oh yeah oh playing a little college ball with no minor a ball a ball that's it
what but there's so many things like that that just you can't even call him red hair it's like
why do we have this okay yeah that's a thing all right fair enough like the entire thing with
the detention center why are they here moving right along yeah this thing moved as zombies pace
that was my problem maybe that's the point let's let's see I because again we can't go deeply
in the story because of spoilers I wish we could play this song I really wish we could play this
song hey hey first of sturgial simpson highly underrated as a musician that's just say it yes he
is amazing if you've never heard of his stuff go out there and look it up he did snl I want to say
with Chris Stapleton a couple years ago and it was phenomenal all right anything else for you
to file analysis no the way we do the final analysis on this show we're not going to give you thumbs
up thumbs down we're not going to give you letter grades numbers severed body parts things like
that two questions question number one is what do we see this again if the answers know that we're
done here but if the answers yes the question becomes how far do we go to see it again from the best
of the best of the worst of the best here's the range full price of the theater down to a twilight
showing down to a matinee down to early morning on a weekend down the second run at the dollar
theater down to actually leaving the house located from red box down to streaming it down to cable
and i think we should probably start with done maybe don would you see the dead don't die again
oh heavens no never in this might make it this possibly gets a maze runner promise possibly
good lord i hated it so aggressive i just i hated you know what the funny thing is i need a hug
i i'm not happening but that's why i'm on the side of this this is what i drove home with
and it's not wasn't even done it is this is the same response i got after the movie and i got
fantastic before that's not the same thing too it's i texted Alex the next day and when Alex's
response is like nine texts of one sentence each i'm like okay dude you can put this in a single
tax and my defense i didn't anticipate more than two sentences i was just like i was pissed okay
fair no so would you see it again yes okay how far you want to go to do it i'm going to say
early screening uh matinee okay
what a strange juxtaposition this is a rough requirement ones on no would you see it again i would
but and i believe this will be the first time i have ever ranked a film in this category ever
because i normally avoid this ranking because of what it is because i am a theater snob
but i will say this would be very very fun for second run at the dollar theater wow
kind of get that old school feel to it grab a bunch of friends spend a buck
because i feel like this should be seen in some form of a theater actually i have an interesting
thought process could you see this being one of those films don't i know you're gonna say no
but rob could you see this is one of those films that almost has like a cult following absolutely runs
and you just grab like this would be like people at five i agree with you that possibly that could
get a cult like it in wood midnight weekend movie yeah yeah like the room well not that far
but this could be one of those midnight weekend movies that people see and we all sing along with
something i just i just say it's just okay let's because we're gonna get we're just stuck in
this loop it is jim jim jaramu she writes and directs the dead don't die for his whole thing yeah
i think juliet marock for the whole we love our vendors they are so good to us we have so much
fun seeing movies and talking about them with you guys to help you make the best possible decision
