seen the movie we're about to talk about he is Chad welcome sir I'll get
around to it I swear to God I'm going to get around I really thought you had
gone to the screening before the one I went to and then find out that you didn't
I was just in shock sir running at the days is the official fact checker of
this show and a man who thought he was watching spider peak spider peak does
whatever spider peak does but he wasn't he was close he was close you may know
his fond on go or it boonu but his mama name I'm down for it I'm gonna come
down for what's up brother spider big mood on spider big new job just one

just do it why is it not doing a thing whatever we do one of these it is to
review something and this is no different directors Bob Harris Shetty Peter
Ramsey and Rodney Rothman direct spider man into the spiderverse sort of
and start this whole spider venture off.
He's very excited, ladies and gentlemen.
We got to think our girlfriend Brad
and you're being at Fonz PR.
Ayy!
We love our vendors, and a special shout out

at least at the screening I went to.
I saw him with Raymond.
Oh, okay.
We love our vendors, they let us see movies early
so we can talk to you guys about them
and tell you our thoughts.
So, here's what you need to know.
Miles Morales.
Now, Miles Morales, he was in the regular conduit.
Yes.
Miles Morales, he's just a kid hanging out.
His dad's a cop.
Now, Miles is played by Shameek Moore.
And
his dad sends him to a prep school.
Because he's qualified for it.
He's a smart kid.
But he kind of likes of the wild side too.
So he hangs out with his uncle Aaron,
by the way, voiced by Marshal Ali,
because that makes everything better
in my personal opinion.
Never heard of him.
I'm a throats of that too.
But while he's hanging out with his uncle,
he gets bit by a radioactive spider.
And so he's...
And as things tend to happen.
In the Marvel universe.
So as he's venturing through his life,
he finds out about a plot by Kingpin.
Do you see this voicing Kingpin in this?
I just did.
Again, you put Leav Shriver in just about anything
and I'm okay.
The voice of HBO sports.
He plays Wilton Fisk, the Kingpin in this.
And he's been working on a device
that will open up portals to other dimensions
so that he can get his family back.
Motivations there and come later in the film.
Due to a series of unfortunate events,
he opens up multiple portals
and he finds out that there are multiple spider people
in multiple places that are now in our universe.
For instance, an older Peter Parker,
played by Jake Johnson.
We have Spider Gwen in this one,
played by Haley Stanford.
We also have Spider-Man Noir.
Why was I, oh I am in this move, that freaked me out.
And then you also have, and I could not have been more happy
when I found out they were doing this.
Peter Parker, the spectacular spider-ham is in this.
And he is voiced by, where is he?
Where is Spider-ham?
John Mullaney.
And then you also have, I just lost her.
Hold on.
You also have Penny Parker, played by Camico Glenn.
And she is, she was bitten by the spider
but she's also bonded with the spider
that's inside of a robot.
It's kind of an anime thing.
But I don't know if that's incontinuity or not.
I couldn't tell you.
Catherine Hahn also in this.
Yeah, I saw who she played.
Yes, and I don't want to give that away
because that's a minor spoiler.
Chris Pine is the Peter Parker in our dimension.
And also there's a couple others I'm not going to say
because that's a spoiler alert.
Of course, Stanley does have a cameo
and Lake Bell also has a very small role in this.
So the problem is with them coming to our dimension,
their molecular structure is not adapted to our dimension.
So they have to get them back to their dimensions
before all of the dimensions collapse in on themselves.
I'm not going to bury the lead here.
I can see you shaking in your chair.
Greatest Spider-Man movie ever.
And you know how I feel about Spider-Man as a character.
For you, I think the bar is kind of low anyway.
But I'm just not a fan of the character in general,
never really have been.
But when you tell me that two of the people involved in this,
especially as writers, are one Phil Lord
and one Brian Michael Bendis,
the man who created Ultimate Spider-Man,
which is mine too,
you automatically have my attention if nothing else.
Especially since one of them is a friend of the show.
Right.
For one of the greatest moments in the history of the show,
Don, you pulled that off.
Now you always get credit for that.
Oh, thank you.
Now I will tell you,
there's a moment at Don,
you probably can catch this,
where Miles is in his phone
and one of his contacts is Bee Bendis.
And that's just...
Brian Michael Bendis.
He's one of the writers he wrote,
we just talked about it.
Okay.
Let me say that there are a ton of Easter eggs in this film.
Oh, gosh.
A ton.
But the beauty of it is,
if you are not deep into the mythos...
Did I even say that right?
The mythos.
Mythos, mythos, it does.
Of Spider-Man?
You won't do what Don just did.
You'll be like, what?
Yeah.
But there's subtle enough that if you are a fan,
you'll be like,
you'll be like,
oh, I see what you did there.
Because it's our universe as much as it's not our universe,
there are ads for things
that are parodies of ads for things in our universe.
So like,
there is a poster that looks like Bridesmaids,
but it's Baby Shower.
You know.
I'm sure they're all Sony properties as well.
Oh, I'm sure.
But what I really dug about this,
is each one of the heroes
really had its own thing.
Yeah, their own arc.
So not really their own arc,
but they had their own identifiers.
So like, when they start to,
for lack of a better term,
it looks like they're having seizures
as their molecular structures are starting to break down.
Each one of them sounds a little different,
which is great,
especially when you get to Peter Parker,
because his sounds like this.
I'm like, I'm like, I'm like,
it's the subtle things.
At one point,
he does use my weapon of choice
in Anvil.
Parker does.
Yes.
Oh, man.
This movie is,
as we record this,
99% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Wow, really.
And it was 100 until today.
It was that one,
probably some stupid podcaster,
somewhere, a bunch of podcasters spares.
Yours hasn't been published yet, Don.
Oh.
But now, now,
Don does have one issue with this film,
that he and I will agree on.
And get also great friend of the show, Raymond Garcia,
said the same thing.
Right.
And this was annoying to me, annoying.
I'll let you say it,
and then I'll give you my reaction.
Okay.
Go ahead.
Well, let me talk about before we get that one thing.
Let's get to that and we'll talk about the rest of the film.
Okay.
It's been a long time.
There were scenes in this film,
where the background was blurred,
and then all of a sudden it comes in focus.
Because what they're trying to do is they're trying to direct you
to certain parts of the scene.
And I agree with Don.
And then there's other scenes.
I didn't dig it.
It's just a film making a choice style.
No, he's asking the question.
Yeah, okay.
Sorry.
No, yes.
It's a film making a choice.
Yes.
And then there's other scenes where the main character on the screen
has like three four lines shadows.
Like you're watching this in a 3D thing without the glasses.
Right.
Horrible.
It was horrible.
And knowing, and knowing, and knowing, and knowing, and knowing.
If there's something I hate about this film,
that ruined this film,
that's it.
I don't say it ruined this film.
No, it did.
Well, after this, it took me out of it.
It took me out of it.
But the story for me is so strong.
But still, what was that I could deal with it?
What was the point of it?
It was a stylistic choice.
Now there is kind of a cool thing.
And when Morales first gets his powers,
as he's thinking,
his words come up on the screen.
Oh yeah, I love that.
In blocks.
He's like, why is that happening?
And I love that they put this in the comic book style.
They put the wording of their thoughts on the,
in the little box above the head.
They weren't thought bubbles.
They were just boxes.
They were narration boxes.
Either way.
So I did, I did like that.
But why did they do that?
It was just, it was just a stylistic choice.
It was a stylistic choice.
But see, but within that too,
like I said, each one of these spider heroes
has their own style.
So Nicholas Cage being Spider-Man noir,
he's always in black and white.
And he always has that style.
And Penny always looks manga.
So when she goes to attack,
you get the multi-panel thing.
But I agree with Don that in the main story telling
that did kind of wear on me.
Because they were just trying to be cool in him.
I thought it was an error or a rough cut.
Because we saw this early.
And sometimes they do that finishing cut or something.
I thought this was a,
because there have been films that we know have,
that we've screened so far ahead,
that they're not the finished product.
And I thought, was this just a room product?
Is it supposed to be in 3D or what?
And then it's intentionally it bugged me.
But to the rest of the film.
Now my little critique.
Okay.
No, it's not little.
It's valid.
It's got, it's got head.
I'm going to add my two cents worth.
Now of course, it's noted.
I don't have the Greek cred.
Okay.
It's true.
Well, let's have it on the show.
The thing is, is you look back at,
like, Spider-Man the original.
Well, define original.
From the Stanley Comics 50 years ago.
Okay.
From the actual comic books.
Okay.
It's just Spider-Man.
And I got a question before I'd get to finish the point.
The man that she's a man to talk to.
When was the female spider lady brought in?
We talked about this.
Spider Gwen is a,
now Jackson's messing with the head,
headphone jack,
headphone cable.
Spider Gwen is a very recent deal.
Like five years.
I would say at the most.
Now, because she's based on Gwen Stacy.
Okay.
Spider-Man's original girlfriend that was played by Emma Stone in the amazing Spider-Man.
Okay.
Now, what about the Parker?
Spider-Man was in the 80s.
Right.
Okay.
All right.
All right.
Okay.
Then that puts a little perspective in me.
Spider-Man War, I cannot verify.
And Penny Parker, I cannot verify.
Because it's kind of like these things like,
where these new superheroes come from.
Like, you guys know the superhero encyclopedia.
We do.
I don't.
And there are some pooped superheroes.
I never heard of.
I've never heard of this female spider woman.
Well, there's a lot.
Well, there is a spider woman.
Yeah.
That she's been around forever.
But we have to remember there's some artistic license being taken here.
Because Sony has already announced.
Because they knew that Spider-Man was going to,
that's going to be the next big cosplay.
Because it's pretty big in the community now.
But I'm talking about from a mainstream standpoint.
You're going to see Spider-Man everywhere.
Like, you've been seeing Deadpool.
They're actually doing a multi-generational female spider hero's film
based around Spider-Gwen and two generations before her.
But these are characters that don't exist in the comic continuity.
But this is, you know, Sony is going to keep this property
as long as it possibly can.
And kind of let me give you a little bit of background here.
In the late 90s, Marvel was hurting.
They almost shut down.
So what they did is they sold off the licensing for films to the studios.
And the studio deal said, as long as you have something in production,
you get to renew the property for seven years in perpetuity.
That's what this basically is.
This is Sony going, yes, we have the spider verse for another seven years.
But they are working with Marvel Studios,
which is the smart move in my personal opinion.
Because that's how you got Spider-Man in Civil War and in Infinity War.
Because Sony still owns the rights to it,
but they let Marvel play in the sandbox.
But again, I can't verify all of these characters,
because a couple of them I had never heard of.
They're probably now they're going to be in continuity
because this movie is going to make a bazillion dollars.
But I liked how each one of them had their own style.
And it doesn't really tie itself to a continuity per se,
which I think works for it.
For me, one, the film is long.
It's a solid two hours.
And there were some scenes that got extended and could have been cut out.
I'm being honest in my personal opinion.
No, it's your opinion.
You're having a right to it.
And it's like where do these people come from?
How many more characters are we going to have?
How many movies are they going to be?
And some are going to be pointless and mindless.
And then watching this,
I kind of like some of these characters.
But it's just, you know,
I make a character called a boon man from Montana.
You have every right to see if that applies.
Yeah, let's just think of something.
You mean something?
A couple of other voice actors in this chat.
MJ?
Zoe Kravitz?
Nice, okay.
And Aunt May?
There's a gentleman, Lily Tomlin.
Really?
Oh, my God.
That's her as Aunt May.
And Donna.
That's good.
She, the way they portray Aunt May.
Brilliant.
Oh, God.
I got to see this in the worst way.
I'm telling you, like,
as much as I enjoyed this film,
like, I don't know if I can go with USA today and say,
this is the best movie of the year.
Let's tap the break a little bit on that.
But it is.
It's getting that kind of praise.
That's what USA today says in the commercial I saw today.
Wow.
This movie.
It's my favorite Spider-Man movie ever.
Now, there is a tag scene.
Okay.
It is obscure and not obscure at the same time.
Which is why there's a couple of voices that I'm not going to give you
because if I do, it spoils it.
Now, in the end credits before the scene,
you see the names, but you're just like,
oh, okay.
I guess they were in it.
And then they show up later.
Because the way they classify them doesn't give anything away.
I wish they wouldn't do that.
I wish they wouldn't do that.
Well, if they have to buy Saggerals.
Then put it after the stinger.
But it's kind of neat.
That's all I'm saying.
I'm in.
But this is my favorite Spider-Man movie of all time.
This has got Dolby Cinema written all over it.
For me, like, my Spider-Man's,
I, my Spider-Man's.
Yeah.
I was a big fan of my electric company, Spider-Man.
You know, Spider-Man and his amazing friends,
the 60s cartoons.
That's my Spider-Man.
Not the 70s TV series, though.
Well, I actually kind of enjoyed it for what it was.
It was, I mean, you got to remember the technology back there.
But it didn't fight anybody.
It was just the thug of the week.
And J. Jonah Jameson was kind of a joke.
Now, to me.
And I want to ask you this honestly.
No, please, please.
Do you think some of that could have been cut out
and do us a too long?
Honestly, honestly, honestly.
At the most five or ten minutes?
Okay.
I mean, I was, I thought the story was really well written.
And it really well executed.
Given what you're basing this in,
everything was probably pretty much necessary.
Well, there was, there was a couple of things,
like the sequence that they showed after Venom.
I thought was unnecessary.
Oh, really?
When I saw that at the end of Venom,
I actually was worried about this film.
That was the first point I was worried about this film.
Because all the trailers I'd seen,
I'm like, you have me.
We're good.
And then I saw that.
I was like, this is what we're doing.
But it's such a small piece of a much bigger picture.
And it's really, it's, it's almost,
part of me kept wondering if this was more of an earth two.
Because they're not the NYPD.
They're the PDNY.
And some of the things that are in there
make me wonder that this is just just enough
out of continuity that they're okay with it
if they keep playing with it.
That won't screw up the continuity
that the movies are doing.
But I really enjoyed this film.
It's really making me want to go home and play that game.
Well, I did like, me, it was,
I did like seeing those new characters
and I thought they brought it in well.
But again, it was, I think too long.
Got a little complicated.
But again, that artistic thing.
I would be interested.
This may be a minor spoiler alert
for about what we're about to talk about.
I would be interested how you felt
after a second viewing of it.
Now that you know what to expect,
I would be interested to see if you saw it again how you felt.
There's a graphic novel that kind of encapsulates it.
Do I have to watch all that fuzz back and
what part of watching the movie, Don?
I'm just saying, I would be interested to see.
I'm not saying that you would change your mind,
but I would be interested to know now
that you know what to expect out of it
if that would change your mind a little bit.
Well possible, yeah, I'm open.
Well then let's go to the final analysis.
Chad knows what's going on here.
The way we do the final analysis on the show,
we're not going to give you thumbs up, thumbs down,
we're not going to give you letters, numbers,
thwips, anything like that.
And it does, there actually is onomatopoeia in this.
Good, okay.
At certain points, when he thwips,
you do see a thwip on the source.
Stop it.
Question number one is what we see this film again.
I think that's just know that we're done here.
But I think that's just yes.
How far we want to go to do it.
From the best of the best?
From the worst of the best.
Here's how it goes.
Full price to the theater, down to a twilight showing,
down to a matinee showing, down to an early morning showing,
down to the second one at the dollar theater,
down to actually leaving your house to get it from red box,
down to streaming it on Netflix, down to watching it on cable.
