the original title of the original film in this series thought it was a Johnny Cash
biopic.
It was not.
You may know him as Igboonu, but his mom and even Don Ford, I'm going to call him Don Ford,

you don't.
Um, and at the beginning you're in trouble, you said sometimes I feel like it's sometimes
I don't, but sometimes I feel like it's sometimes I don't.
We are two and a half minutes in and he's already not paying attention.
We could pull the curtain back and say that's not a new thing today.
Whatever we do one of these, it is to review something Alex is going to review men in
black international first of this whole thing.

anymore.

They let us see movies and stuff before they come out as Alex and the general did

Some would see this as a sequel, some would see this, I see this is more of a spinoff
because only really one of the pseudo principles is involved in this, but you've got Tessa
Thompson who winds up involved with the men in black, uh, international house of pancakes.
And she winds up working with agent H played by the Chris Hemsworth under the watch full
eye of hold on, isn't he a agent high T high T because there's more than one T played
by the Liam Neeson's.
And they're trying to find a mole in the men in black organization, oh, we're going to
go that far.
That's what it says on the MDib, okay, I did not realize that IMDB went that far the MDib
that's what it says.
They tackle their biggest threat to date, a mole in the MIB organization.
So you saw this thing, we were, we were dividing and conquering the night of this screening.
Yes.
And I, I will say I went in with low expectations.
I very much enjoyed the first men in black that introduced us to this, I had the soundtrack
for the first one.
I was like, there's a great song with the Snoopy dog dog on that that I very much enjoy.
And Bob is key.
Don and I were handling home show 464 while you were handling for home show 467.
Yes.
I will say that the second and third, pretty much, I don't want to say crippled my interest
in the series.
See, we talked about this yesterday, MIB3 didn't bother me because Josh Brolin was so good
in it.
But everybody else was so bad.
But his Tommy Lee Jones is everything, let me rephrase, Josh Brolin and Alice Eve.

But his Tommy Lee Jones is so good at everything and I'm okay with that.
Well, the problem is, is that they're basically the same person from different generations.
It's not really a presentation.
But worries me.
Well, worried me about this film with the amount of promotion in it because I do, I do
watch quite a bit of the Espin, especially when it comes to three to five central time
because you got a high noon, highly questionable around the Horn PTI.
And they're doing this big campaign with the NBA Finals where agents H&M, H&M, it's
not a store in the mall.
I believe so.

Can I give you one piece of information that we can move forward so that you could never
do this again?
There are multiple times that agent HIT refers to Chris Hemsworth as H.

But they've been doing this campaign with the NBA Finals where they're in character
but they're talking because all NBA players are apparently aliens and that worried me going
into this because I was like, yeah, are we pushing this a little too hard?

I actually thoroughly enjoyed it.

I feel like there may have been multiple drafts or multiple scripts that got shoved together
because it is Men in Black International and they cover a wide range of locations.
I'm surprised I hopped didn't jump on this so we could have the Men in Black International
Pancakes.
That's the Pancakes.
Actually I believe there was an interesting thing with that where Men in Black had a deal
with, I want to say Denny's at one point.
I believe you're right.
Where they did an international slam or something like that or not international but an interstellar
slam.
So I wonder if I hopped was like, no, no, not this time.
But at the same point, there's a lot of good that felt like it could have been maybe
a mini series or a Netflix one season.
So what was there an animated series at one point that they believe there was?
It was based on a comic book.
Right.
But this is wholly separate.
Okay.
Entirely separate.
Exactly.
But it does just enough to allude to the fact that it is in the same realm as the original
movie, but it also pretends like two and three didn't happen.
So I'm okay with this.
There's only a quick reference to the first one as an establishing for a parallel to the
opening scene.

Although there is some great job by Siobhan Fallon in that first one.

Anyways, moving right along.
There is an interesting establishing with the opening scene that moves along to it.
And this movie actually answers questions that most people have had with the Men in Black
series, but may have lost interest in asking like, how could you really stay this
secret this long and different things like new stuff added to an old situation that
you have with the prior movies.
Now, this was directed by F. Gary Gray.
Fantastic.
But I do see musically Elfman still involved.
Yes.
So I was glad to see that.
Yes.
And interestingly enough, a lot of the opening credits fit the series.
We'll call it.
Okay.
So there is a lot in that vein, but they don't overdo it, which is very nice.
And you do see, get the card for Son and Feld as a producer, I believe.
But this is the first one he hasn't directed, but F. Gary Gray can do little wrong in
my opinion.
Big fan of F.
Because you got a lot going on and, you know, let's beat the drum again, and I do include

There is a lot for a director to juggle here between, you know, major actors, different
sets, stories that are kind of seeming like they're all over the place and getting that
all to work together.
Now I will say there is to borrow a phrase that you said at one point, a plot hole you
could drive a truck through.
I was going to say a star destroyer.
No, dear.
It is that large.
But if you're willing to overlook that one piece, because it does blow by quick and
it, to tell you the truth, I didn't get it the day I watched it.
It occurred to me the next day when I was thinking about something and I was like, okay.
All right, now I see what it's there.
But being willing to forgive that one, I don't want to call it continuity, but that one
void.
It was a very enjoyable film and oh my god, it's Kumail non-Johnny fun.
Big fan.
Oh, he's so much.
Not a spoiler because he is on the poster, but he never physically appears in the movie.
He plays a smaller alien that accompanies agents MNK, H, MNH, Ks from the original, moving
back MNH on their mission to find out what's wrong, no, unless you consider Emma Thompson
God.
So she was at one point.
Yeah, thank you for picking up what I was putting up and was recast, but thank you for picking
it up anyways.

I give a Smith reference does not get past me very often.
But he ties all of the lulls together and saves every, like, because there's odd pacing
with these being multiple script-feeling aspects.
But every time you're like, okay, this is starting to lull just a little bit.
Here comes Kumail to save the day and crush the motion capture and kudos to the art department
that was able to make that work because I could not enjoy his work more, especially when
you think about the Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth work so well together as evidenced
in Thor Ragnarok, which is why they were a great pair to bring to this.
Although I still maintain Chris Hemsworth is playing Chris Hemsworth and it's his best
work now because he's everybody's big buddy who happens to look like a Greek God.
Ghostbusters.
Yes.
He was great in that.
Yes.
But since he started doing this comedic turn, he's got great comedic jobs.
Oh, it's amazing.
And it's one of those where it's like, that's not fair for the rest of us.
He can't be that good looking and that funny.

sequels that just bogged it down into oblivion.

So, you know, I'll say something very interesting that I did not anticipate.
This might have been my favorite men in black.
If this got made and the other three didn't, I would be okay with it.

Even over the original.

I was waiting for the still.
But this movie could stand on its own.
I could see a lot coming out of this, whether it be other sequels, spin-offs, or different
things like that, because is this going to win any awards for acting, writing, even
direction, despite F. Gary Gray's fantastic ability?
No, no, it's not going to, but I had a ton of fun.
They did over-advertise it, which might turn off some people, because that NBA tie-in
was god awful.
So, and remember, this was originally supposed to be a crossover with the Jump Street movie.
Yes, it was.
It was supposed to cross over with 22 Jump Street, and you don't really feel that as much,
but there's still the fun comedy to it.
But it feels like multiple stories tied together already, so I wonder if 22 Jump Street was
part of that getting tied together.
There are, interestingly enough, there's a couple of guys I had never seen before.
There are dancers from France, I believe they are from France.
They are, they are of other worlds, played by Laurent and Larry Bourgeois, who, without
saying much of anything, were fantastic in their role.
Okay.
Now, granted, there are a few false finishes, so fair warning, but it is still going to
a predictable end.

You said there's only one person who's from the originalness, right?

From the original three movies.

But either way, Tessa Thompson, who I am growing to love more and more and would gladly
replace the sensational Johnny with her, that's right.

But Tessa Thompson is fantastic and this is a slightly different role for her just based
on.
Let's call it character work because usually she's very confident.
And this is a different aspect for her.
But amazing, amazing work.
Chris Hemsworth still Chris Hemsworth, a, he says I knew I'm sitting there.
But he works out of the London office which makes me laugh because it doesn't work.
But Liam Neeson, absolutely great being Liam Neeson.
There is no snow plow.
So before you go there, I have a particular set of alien antique skills.
Better.
I'm Liam Neeson's rock solid in the way that the way that water created the Grand Canyon.

He's taking a chance.
I could say I have great English skills.
Oh no, that's been, that's been proven on multiple occasions to be false.
But when everybody involved, it's, it's fun throughout.
Takes a little turns here and there.
But if for nothing else, just the repartee between Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth and
Kumail Nanjani while seeing where the technology has advanced to show you the different aspects
in this, because it's been, and I shuttered when I wrote it 22 years.

Matt and A, down to early morning on a weekend, down to the second one at the dollar theater,
down to going to a red box to rent it, down to streaming it on your favorite streaming
service, down to watching it on cable.

In the words of Tommy Lee Jones, yes, that's not a good time with Jones, I don't know.
But I'm not the one that tries to claim I have terrible impersonations.
