Episode 14 The New Chapter Begins

It is the 11th of January in the year of our Lord 2020 4 and I got the date right
the first time season 14 episode 14 so go figure 649 times you have been
welcome to the clubhouse podcast new improved rebooted redone but we're
not taking the numbers because the numbers matter but the numbers are
going to be weird for a little while. Welcome we're so glad that you're
with us. My name is Rob by the executive producer of the clubhouse
podcast and as the title says the new chapter begins welcome we're so glad each
and every one of you are here. If you know there's Rachel Rachel's already on
top of things. In case you missed the announcement was that last week
Alex or was that two weeks ago now? I believe it was two weeks. It was glad to be
wrong. It was it was the fourth time. It's times a
concert. Oh it was okay so we are back on Thursday nights now because
things work better for us on Thursday nights and you're getting a tofer
because we have now gone back to one show. The second hour will be the
cheap podcast. You'll see the branding over there change. I'm still trying to
figure out because we can't make it two separate feeds because then it goes to
two different places and blah blah blah blah blah blah but we can make it
work. That way for me and I got it right the first time is my co-host
and Amanda for the first time has hair a lot longer than mine
in a long time because I just got my hair cut. He is Alex. I don't know if it's the
first time in a long time. I feel like I have consistently had the longest
hair on this show for a while. My hair was kind of bushy because I had
gotten a cut before since before Thanksgiving. That is long for you.
So we might have been sure in the last time we had a show.

gonna call him Don Ford. Hey man. I do have a light but I kind of turned it
so I won't be too, you know, too bright. I want one professional. He doesn't want
to be my personality. He's already shining. I don't want to overdo it, you know.
But hey, I'll say this over Christmas. I saw the real life
Nemo. I'm betting you saw many of them. Yeah, actually in all the other
I actually did my first ocean scuba dive for the first time ever in the ocean.

I'm thinking of you as a doing an ocean scuba dive in a lake.
Yeah, it's my first pool. You're cool. You're cool. You're grief, dude. But yeah,
you got, you had a great vacation, great trip with faith. Yeah, but we got to plan
these screenings better because I feel like this is my entire interaction with faith

I can't even, it's like the the lovely and talented try to get her on the show. That's
only happened like twice like ever. Yeah, I got, I remember that one time at the
pinball festival when she did the zining, that's the only time she's got on the show. Let's,
let's even tonight's episode is going to be a little bit different because we're on Thursday's
for two weeks. Alex and I realized today that two weeks from tonight, we have a screening. So
we will not have a show on Thursday, but we will have the rumble show the following Saturday.
But then Alex and I are out of pocket again, the following Thursday. So just follow us on social
media for the madness. That's all I'm saying. So we're going to get into the normal format of
the clubhouse, but we're going to change things up a little bit. We're not going to go as deep
into a lot of things as we have in the past because we kind of felt like that was hindering,
like not being here for seven and a half hours. So we're going to kind of talk about a lot of
things on a high level. NASCAR, we're going to kind of give, give that a little bit of a respite
just because we just found ourselves just making fun of names and races, which isn't really in-depth
NASCAR coverage. Now, if there are things like race names, I want to jump in and say NASCAR
race names. We were making fun of, well, we were, but we were also doing things with people's names,
too. No, no, no, I understand it's the term you used. I wanted to clarify.
I'm sorry. The phrase you said was making fun of races. Oh, no, yes, no, yes, race names,
names of the races. Yes, that in NASCAR. Lord, I'm mercy. That's a weird thing. That's a good point.
Yeah, there was a little bit, we're getting back into it. I appreciate you verifying the
context because the internet. Yeah, exactly. But we will be overmiss information. Plus the fact
if anybody listens to a handful of episodes at this show, they would know better, but I appreciate
that very, very much. So let's get into, it's still the NFL season. It is the playoffs, playoffs.
We do want to point out if you can name that coach. I expect you to know it, Rob, not others.
They were actually talking about that on BNT this morning.
Our picks are done because we elected not to do the playoffs, but I came in second.
You did. You did very well. I think I came in second and both pick them leaks.
I think you might have. I'd have to verify. I've got one of them on my screen. The other one's
in a different path. Don, we're going to fix next year. We're going to make sure that we get
Don fully involved next year. Alex in our picks leagues came in third, right? He was two points behind
me and I was five points behind. She just went on a heater there in the last couple three weeks
and just pulled away from the dog on that she did. But congratulations to her. She 146 and 124.
I think the top three record finished above 500. Craig came in fourth, but he was only
a game below 500. Dad was right behind him by two points. Ashley was actually, she had the same
number of wins, but it looks like she something happened where she lost the tie break at a few weeks.
Sometimes like if you don't do all your picks or you don't verify it because you have to look
a little bar at the bottom. And if it's not green, you missed the pick. Even though you think you
did because it happened to me a couple times. I was like, oh, wait a minute. I missed one. There you go.
So you're scheduled for this weekend. It is super wild card weekend.
It's wild card weekend. But Baltimore and San Francisco both have high. Buffalo takes on Pittsburgh,
KC will be at Miami. That game exclusively on Peacock. And as we've learned is if the game is on
Peacock in the fourth quarter, there are no commercials. That was kind of cool to learn.
Houston will be at I do want to do a quick correction on that. We were talking prior about the Saturday
games. I want to say that was Christmas, where we thought that both were streaming or I thought both
were streaming on Peacock, but the first one was on NBC and streaming. So your order will be
Cleveland at Houston Houston. That will be at 3.30 p.m. Central on Saturday. Miami at Kansas City.
I had those backwards because they have them backwards on the thing. That will be your the game
on Peacock at 7 o'clock central. Oh wow, look at that.
There's a thing in there. I think we have a milestone now. What's that? We'll talk about it later.
Sunday at noon central Pittsburgh will be at Buffalo. Buffalo's giving 10.
Is that all? That's my team. Well, there's the other reports similar to the Kansas City one,
where at the same time, that game may not happen in Buffalo.
Weather? No, am I am I lagged bar behind? No, we have you.
Okay, maybe you are. Current talks is that because of inclement weather coming into Buffalo,
they may move that game to Cleveland.
That's ticker. By the way, Kansas City giving four and a half to Miami. I don't think
that's enough. Miami's the injuries have depleted them so badly. I just want us to stay competitive
in that game. Cleveland is giving two to Houston. I would actually take a Houston plus two,
especially at home. CJ Stroud back and I think they're going to ball out your midday game on
Sunday. Green Bay at Dallas. You guys want to pick against the spread of those other games real quick
before I go further? Sure. Hit me individually. Cleveland giving two to Houston Houston. Houston.
I will take Cleveland. Don. And where's it at? It's in NRG stadium because Buffalo might be using
the Cleveland stadium because of weather. Okay. I take Cleveland.
So I'm on the island on that one. KC giving four and a half to Miami. I will take KC minus the
four and a half. I'm happy with the the results of the regular season for Miami. I just don't see
us winning this game on the road in the winter. When you've got a guy that's 114 years ago playing
safety last week because we literally had nobody left. It breaks my heart, but I just don't see
us winning this game and I don't see it being close. Don, you want to take this one first?
You know what? I see that as the upset. I would take Miami with the points.
I agree with Don. Now allow me to briefly explain why. We're expected to have a wind
and negative 30 wind chill in Arrowhead. Mike McDaniel is a wizard at coming up with running
plays, which is what you need in that kind of weather. I think he's going to be able to script it
to the point where Miami might actually steal it. And he's got the L.O. Cool J sweatpants.
Yes, you want. Well, no, L.O. Cool J never had calves that tiny fair enough. Sean's
chiming in. She's saying the chiefs take that game if for no other reason than the weather.
I am inclined to agree with her. I like where you're coming from, Alex, because McDaniel is,
this week's hard knocks was amazing. It was one of my favorite hard knocks episodes in a long time
because it really it went into depth on who McDaniel is and his background and his journey.
And I loved it. I hope we win because I am a fan. That's my that's my team. But I have to be
realistic. Pittsburgh at Buffalo Buffalo is giving 10. Don, another year where the Pittsburgh
Steelers do not have a losing record and go to the playoffs and double digit wins. Yep.
Actually, on this one, I get I would I would take the Buffalo at the points. I mean,
I take Buffalo and giving 10 on this one. He's no selling.
I'm serious. You know, I could be up front and everything. You know, I love the Steelers.
Yeah. You are. Yeah. So I'm not saying I disagree with you because Buffalo's my pick to go to
the Super Bowl. Yeah. And it looked a little shaky there in the middle of the season and then
all of a sudden the Buffalo builds went, oh, we're the Buffalo Bills. We should be winning the AFC.
Well, there's a distinct line of when that changed and it involves Ken Dorsey no longer being
agreed, agreed. But I just I was actually talking to Fred of the show Steven Zimmerman a couple
of weeks ago and we were talking about Buffalo before the Miami game. Now this and let me just be
clear, I am actually okay that Miami lost that game. Here's why. Number one, it's hard to be a team
three times in a season. Number two, it's harder to beat the same team and back-to-back weeks
in the NFL. Miami had won that game last week. We're going to get our doors blown off
this weekend worse than Kansas City. Well, and the other part about that is the fact that
there isn't really great home field advantage in many places and Miami isn't one of them.
Arrowhead, great home field advantage, Lambo, great home field advantage, AT&T Stadium.
I can't remember what Minnesota is called, but Mike or the Minnesota arena or stadium.
I think so. But regardless, Miami is not a great home field advantage and especially when you
have the you would have had the exact same game two weeks in a row. Buffalo probably would have
been ecstatic to have the team from New York in December. It's not a home field advantage because
they're all down there for the winter anyway. Assuming they weren't already there because they moved.
And they took over the elbow room. I don't know if you saw that. Yes, I did see that.
Mike, Mike believes and Mike does our US bank stadium. He says Buffalo will be ahead by 10 until
Alan throws an interception to let the Steelers score. He did it quite Miami and might be couldn't hold
on in the end. Yeah, I'm I'm taking Buffalo all day every day. All right, Green Bay at Dallas in
the midday game. Dallas giving them seven. This is going to be this game is weird to me.
It is. It's wildly irregular. I Alex, it is well established on the show. Alex is our gambling go to.
I feel like this is a track game.
So because Dallas has not impressed me enough to say I'm willing to take them, but neither his
Green Bay and it is also not in the frozen tutra. I am more intrigued by the fact that
the referee and hold on to the negativity I will be getting from our Fairburg in a minute,
but there was no greater advantage to home games this year than the Dallas Cowboys.
Now part of that reasoning may or may not have been the fact that penalties were incredibly
lopsided while they were at home. However, Green Bay's defense not good enough to withstand a very
good Dallas offense and that defense is very good yet overrated on the back end, but there's nobody
on Green Bay. They can really light them up for that, even though Jordan Love looks like the
third Hall of Famer in the role in a row for Green Bay. Sorry, Mike, but at the same time,
this is not a track game to me. They're already trying to push flimsy narratives of,
oh, Green Bay has never lost in the new Cowboys stadium. Guess what's going to happen?
It's going to be Dallas. By the way, shout out to Crystal Vess who gave us a little bit of love
there in the upper left corner of the screen. Good to have her with us. Friend of mine,
dear friend. Okay. She has a perfect meet, by the way. With the points I would take, I would take
Green Bay with the points on this one. I'm actually going to stay away from this one.
Just feel correct to me if I'm wrong. I did hear you correctly that it's minus four,
correct? Seven. Seven. Yeah, that's how I'm taking the points.
That makes a lot more sense now. I'd still take Dallas. I think they win by double digits.
In your Sunday night football game, because we only have one of those left.
LA goes to Detroit. I am so sick of hearing
versus Stafford and Stafford versus Gus. In the immortal words of Tony Riali,
it's not because they don't play each other. That is fair. You're on the seal at the same time.
Detroit is giving three, which makes this technically a pick-um because it is at Ford Field.
The Rams have come on late. That they have on both sides of the ball.
I am not convinced that it's going to be enough for them on the road to win. I think Detroit
is fired up, especially after that game on New Year's Eve Eve. I believe Detroit wins this game.
I believe they cover. I believe they win by at least seven. Give me the Detroit Lions in the
season after Hard Knocks. Blessing, which means next year we'll watch out for the jets.
I agree with you on that one too. That's a clean sweep for us because the biggest thing is
Detroit's defense was struggling on the back end and then CJ Gardner Johnson came back and they
shut people down for a couple of weeks. Monday night football, one more time.
Filly at Green Bay. Filly is, I'm sorry, a Tampa Bay. Go ahead, Alex.
Oh, no, no. I was, you corrected.
Filly is giving three. I do not believe that I live in a world that Filly has to give three on
the road. This is an 11 win team going to a stadium where a team that won a division
almost with the NFC West did three years ago and won it with a losing record.
This is a team that everybody was fearing by the end of September and now they're kind of there.
I do not believe Tampa Bay wins this game. That beeping sound you heard in the beginning
of the show was them backing into the playoffs. I'm happy both of my teams have made the playoffs.
My bucket ears and my dolphins both made it in. Don't both lose this weekend.
But I just don't see now. Filly wins. They wind up with the winner of Detroit and
the Rams and they would go to Detroit or they would host the Rams.
That, no, there's receding in the NFL. Are they doing that? Okay.
Yeah. So the based on what our picks have been across the board as far as winning goes, your matchups
would be, yeah, how sad is it that a Vikings fan is trying to credit Detroit?
Sir, there are zero Super Bowl titles between both of your teams, but that's a good fan when
you can recognize game recognized. There's never been a doubt about Mike being a great fan and
a knowledgeable fan as well. But based on our picks at this point, it would be San Francisco
and Philadelphia and then Detroit coming back to the scene of the crime in Dallas.
Don, what do you think? Philly, I'm going to take Philly on that one.
Also, all right. And you said Philly, yeah, I Philly by three, right?
You know, I think Buffalo and Philly have done reverse things.
Buffalo started up in and then he started, but Philly started off like a terror and now they're
you know, I think that last game, they're just like, you know what, no matter if we win or lose,
who cares? You know, and I think maybe that's going to be where they had the division. They had it
and they lost it because they just quit. And I think just to be awake of call form, I hope.
Well, I think the bigger thing with Philly and yes, they should cover three, but Tampa Bay can be
very dangerous. Bayer Mayfield, you want my hot take there? Should be comeback player of the year.
I'm, I understand the narrative for Demar Hamlin. I understand the narrative for Joe Flacco.
Flacco, I would put a distant third behind those two. Well, right now your betting odds are
Demar Hamlin, then Joe Flacco. I mean, five years are old and you know, right. We're the same
age. You need to stop that. But what I was going to attribute is Philly's biggest issue has been
the fact that they were running away with the division and then started getting hurt. They started
losing people to missed games, which is something they didn't have to deal with last year.
Interestingly enough, Miami's dealing with a lot of it this year and still doing well in a tougher
conference. So I think if Philly can get enough people back healthy, they should be running away
from it and it's going to be scary, but they are going to get destroyed in the second round.
And both of my Super Bowl picks are still active. So you're the only one.

the closest to them would be Columbus at minus 29.
That's almost less than two thirds of the goals.

Some quick television headlines. ABC has announced that the good doctor will be ending with season
seven. My wife will be very upset. She enjoys that show very much as we'll show them.

CBS has ordered an NCIS prequel.
That will center on a young Gibbs along with the character of Mike Franks.
I believe Mike is calling for the mercy role to eliminate San Jose for the season.
By the way, it would be nice if we could actually get ABC.
We have universe. That's why you have Hulu. I know, I know, but we don't have Hulu.
Wow. That's your humorous issues.
Well, that you have ABC loss to contract.
That sounds like you have some deciding to do, sir. Yes.

Disney Plus has canceled American-born Chinese after one season.
And rumors are that Asoka has been nude for season two because pre-production is beginning,
but nobody is saying for sure. I believe Filoni has said that he's already working on it.
Right, but it hasn't been officially announced. Like they're happy.
It hasn't been officially announced by Disney, but Filoni is kind of the end all be all for them
right now. Max has renewed bookie for season two. That's with Sebastian Manescalco.
I want to watch it, but I don't like him.
Our flag means death canceled after two seasons. That was a shocking headline this week.
For me, I as many people as were upset by this and I very much enjoyed that show.
I think that there's a level to that that was more Taiko with TD going, I'm busy enough.
There was Don and I screened a movie last night, and I really thought at one point he was in that movie.
The guy in the yellow. Exactly who you're talking about, too.
The guy in the yellow at the end. I like saying that because that's the way Ryan Reynolds said it when
they did that when he was sitting on the couch watching the trailer for Deadpool 2.
And we've got some huge casting news for season two of the last of us.
I don't know who these characters are, but it's a headline. We're going to talk about it.
Caitlin Deaver joining the cast to play Abby.
Isabella Merced will be playing Dina and Young Manzino from the Netflix show Beef this year
will be playing Jesse.
Allow me to say that Abby is a massive, massive character in the narrative.
And it also might mean that the narrative is going to be moving faster than people want based on
not going to spoil it.
I defer to you, even though I know you're not a PlayStation guy,
but you do tend to have your thumb on the pulse of video games.
But I will say there is a massive narrative moment regarding the Abby character.
If you want to know off air, I will share, but
no TV on DVD or Blu-ray this week, not a lot of DVD and Blu-ray new releases this week.
I feel like we're still kind of in the actor math of the strike.
And it's going to start picking up to him and the holidays.
That's true. So I'm going to do a couple of quick movie headlines because we are going to get to
our best and worst of 2023. We're going to get to as much as we can from a wrestling standpoint.
But this is our end up a year that we haven't gotten to do so we have to make up for time.
David Tennant has been, it will be your host for the BAFTAs this year.
Nice. I like him a lot.
Selina Gomez, big news yesterday.
Selina Gomez will be in a biopic as Linda Ronstadt.
And I am highly intrigued by this.
I was hoping it was the fact that she got my chocolates.
Oh wait, Sean's here.
Or this year I got a chance to interview Rex Smith and we went and saw Pirates of
Penzance with him. He'd never seen it in the theater.
Go back and watch that movie.
You forget the power of that woman's voice.
And somebody put a side by side and it's not far off for Linda Ronstadt at that eight.
So I'm very, very intrigued. I love Linda Ronstadt.
Big fan, great documentary about her that came out last year a year before something like that.
So get ready for that.

Mean girls, the book that was turned into a movie that was turned into a musical that was turned
into a movie this week.
Time in the last month that that has happened.
To mixed results.
Just don't not a big fan.
I enjoyed it.
Of the Mean Girls.
Yeah, but I've never seen the movie or the stage play.
So I am going to go back and watch the movie to compare and contrast.
And I would be interested if it does come through this town.
I would be interested to go see the stage production.
I would be interested in the stage production on that.
I would.
But the see in the original movie.
And you know my love.
Or like a love remix.
And this one, yeah.
Compared to the original, that's a problem.
You didn't see the original I have.
That's why we may have a different view on it.

Operation Fortune, he gets a pass because that movie was great.
I said this in my review.

This 35 years ago, this movie makes a billion dollars.
This seems like a they found an old script that Steven Statham
passed on.
And was like, give it to Statham.
It's oh my god.
You know, the more you said that earlier and I didn't think about it.
But now I'm going with Beak's broken English a little bit.
Bites, awkwardly shaped.
Still fun.
By the way, Steven Statham.
Steven Statham, 72 years old.
That is that is a fact.
But I grew up in a 35 year bit ago.
It's an 80s style stuff's going to explode.
And Don, I didn't get a chance to tell you this.
But I wrote this in my review.
Watching Josh Hutcherson, Logan Paul is finna sue somebody.
That's all I'm saying.
Because he was doing nothing sort of channeling Logan Paul in this movie.
It's not terrible.
It's just not good.
Also this week, the book of Clarence, which I got to see last week,
fan, fantastic.
Same director that is the harder they fall.
And it's for those of you that might be concerned because of some of the
subject matter.
It is not blasphemous.
Let me say this.
Anybody that says it is has not seen this film.
Clarence played by LeQuise Stanfield, who is one of the most underrated actors of our time.
Plays a guy that lives in the same time as Jesus.
And he's kind of down on his luck.
So he decides he's going to be a Messiah so that he can have all the things Jesus has.
The Jesus and disciples part of the story is straight gospel.
With a little bit of embellishment.
But nothing bad.
I think this movie is fantastic.
I think it's a great conversation starter that I just yodeled.
And that was my, in the fantastic faith toward worry,
with possibly bringing in the blasphemy.
And I thought, well, you're going to go.
I'll let you see.
And I always see it later.
Does it's a guy that missed it at the same time?
Like there's a scene where he goes to see Mary because he wants to, and I quote,
learn how Jesus does his tricks.
And Mary's like, oh,
I was speaking though, you know, your worst film of the year, a year ago,

Hunk for Jesus.
Oh, Hunk for Jesus.

It's a film about five years ago.

I clock in at 83, which was more than I saw last year.
It was more than I saw in 2022.
So what we're going to do is we're going to give you our bottom 10 and our top 10.
Here's how it'll work.

We'll just go ahead and keep it consistent.

This was directed by Eva Longoria.
And then we found out that no, it was invented in Plano,
Texas in 2008 and not in the 80s.
It's a good.

there were no real unanswered questions at the end of it.

It's it's not good.
It's just I honestly didn't see this one.
I didn't watch the first one.

This one I actually very much enjoyed but it was just such a crappy movie.

There was some feel good to it.
But 80 for Brady is my eighth worst movie of 25.
I did not get to this one.
It was one of those that I was like, oh, I need to watch that and then something else
would happen and the next thing I knew it was Christmas.
Yeah, it's I will check this out at some point but I'm setting to Barlow.
I thought yeah, I thought they didn't make my bottom 10 but it didn't even come close to my top 10.
Yeah, it's one of those.
It's not a poor experience but it's a poor movie.

I was going to get real Olivia who gave us some love on the on the video tonight.

Number eight for me when I wrote my review for this film,
I said to the haters, which apparently now I am one of given where this movie lies,
is watch this film again in five years and you'll understand why it is what it is.
I have to retract that statement because in five years, this film is not going to matter
because of the major changes that the MCU is going through now.
So the pink Floyd fever dream that is Ant Man in the Wasp, Quantum Mania.
I really thought this was going to be the thing that set everything up through the next two phases
and now it's probably going to be forgotten because of the pivoting that the MCU was having to do.
This is six from the bottom list for me.
So it's outside of your bottom 10 by us.

I'm always game for a good horror flick.

Talked a little bit of a detour, but it got the wheels back and they were back to the.
Well, they tried this with one of the greatest horror films of all time.
And this thing 20 years later did not work.
They shouldn't have even made it the actresses believer.
And interesting news coming down today about that.
The rest of that trilogy now being abandoned because the director has said no thank you.
Yeah, I blame them.
I didn't think you also this is another one that was on the list of I was I'm looking forward
to watching it at some point, but it lost out time and time again to other things.
And you've also got another remake coming.
And I and I thought that's what this exorcist one was going to be.
And it wasn't the release date.
The remake of the Omen.

At one point was set for Easter weekend.

any redeeming qualities.
This film is that film.
Everybody in this film is a terrible human being for one reason or another.
Alison Brie plays a girl who's down on her luck.
She's on a show that gets canceled.
She goes back to her hometown, tries to hook up with her boyfriend from back in the day that she
left for whatever reasons and then finds out by happenstance that he's actually engaged to
somebody else and the things and the wedding and they blabla.
That's what I have to say.
Number five, Donnie, reason you hate Dave Franco, right?
Dave Franco, he's just weird.
Unfortunately, this film is ice-aged out also and this was the third installment of this
thing of this series of this film series.
It's so ironic because this thing ripped off the original series on.
It's the third film of Rocky 3.
Creed 3 was Rocky 3 to a T.
Just the names and faces were changed to protect the innocent and no one got protected on this.
Creed 3, no, it was Rocky 3 to remake.
It can have been any different.
I don't agree with the Rocky 3 remake part of it but there are definitely some similarities.
I can see where you're getting that from, Don.

I hated it.
I hated Creed 3 as well.
It's not in my bottom 10 but I didn't enjoy it at all.
I thought it was the worst of the three.

I like the symbolism of it.

This is a film that is full of people that have no redeeming qualities.

I don't like movies like this.
And this movie is another prime example.

Avoid this film at all costs.

but I don't see how they enjoy it.

and a Jewish person deciding which one has had worse

I mean, there's a barbershop scene about that, isn't there?
Well, no, it's at the dinner table.

The, the, you got two people trying to date
and you got two different opposite parents.
Yeah, it was no.

What you were talking about as a redeeming quality of the cameos.

I felt was them making what they knew was a terrible movie

And I suggest you go back to arguably the greatest
Christmas episode of anything in Ted Lasso
and listen to what Hannah Waddingham
as Rebecca Welton says about Daniel Craig and Rachel Weiss.
That's how I feel about ghosted.
I don't like it.
Don mentioned my number two before.
I've never been to a screening and it's how happened twice in 2023
where people bought tickets to a screening I went to.
In an IMAX theater,
oh, that I sat in for the better part of three hours.
Oh, yeah.
And got to the end of Bo is afraid.
And literally sat there because during the end credits,
there's still something in the background
and literally nothing happens.
To call Bo is afraid a flaming turd is an insult to flaming turds.
And I had to sit there with an IMAX.
It's and I believe I said this in my review.
It's like a bunch of people sat around the table and went,
okay, give me ideas for a movie.
And then they went, okay, make all of that in one movie.
Or it's the worst episode of Saturday Night Live ever hosted by Joaquin Phoenix.
Without a musical, there's a musical piece to it,
but they're not a musical guest.
This is the, this and the movie had potential.
There was potential in it,
but it never got off the ground.
And it's the better part of three hours long.
And people paid for it.
And there were maybe 20 people that entire IMAX out 20.
Maybe.
Bo.
All right, Don, what loses the year for you?
My golden, I'm going to pull a page that you pulled with Bon City.
I am doing two films that are going to share the golden turkey.
Oh, I cannot decide which one was worse.
So real fast, the first one was a comedy where they, where I thought where
the you people cannot hit the race card even worse.
The blackening was so stereotypical.
It was horrible where like,
Mel Brooks says I would not be able to release blazing saddles today.
They tried doing that with the black version of the blackening.
But that's the point.
But it was, it was bad.
I had this in 1993.
But my other one, which is going to share the golden turkey,
is a film that we went out and decided we could either see this movie or Disney Wish.
Kind of debunked.
I remember this.
And I saw that you went to this.
I was like, I can't believe Don's going.
It looked interesting.
I know what this is.
But didn't I call you and go, dude, are you sure you know what you're in for?
Yeah, because I thought the idea of this and the thing was this film cost me money.
Because if I would have gone to wish instead of seeing this,
we wouldn't have to go to the theater to watch Wish.
And I wish that we would have wished and watched Wish.
The Saltburn was one of the most disgusting films that reminded me of the Neon Demons.
Just trying to be sexually gross in this film.
It made me basically sick in Fantastic Faith 4.
Just looking at the screen going, oh, you're gone.
Day this.
I have not met a single solitary soul that has said saltburn was, okay,
you either love this movie or you absolutely abor this movie.
There is no general ground.
Now, the interesting thing on this one is I will say Don Ford has amazingly high
batting averages on recommending TV shows.
He and I tend not to agree on movies.
And he is the only person I have heard who did not love saltburn.
So I am curious to watch this for a rebuttal.
Okay, I read the Wikipedia page.
I know what I need to know hard pass for me.
Alan gets a Alps when you will understand my when I know I already know enough about the movie
to understand where you're coming from.
But I'm also the show Sikko, who's like this stuff sounds awesome.
And Faith was even it was that bad with Faith going we should have gone start Disney.
I can say it's bad.
That's it.
That could not be polar opposite more than saltburn to wish.
I don't think there could be.
And I wish we would have some wish.
I agree.
Yeah.
Because I like the idea of this guy.
The poor guy goes to this, you know, rich people's house.
Louis, Louis, Louis, Louis, Louis.

I like the premise, but Alex works over the year.
I think I have only gone to one movie that made me physically angry.
Like, there was a genuine part of me that I felt like I should have started punching people
to get thrown out of this movie.
Because to borrow Don's, I wish I had seen wish.
I wish I was anywhere but inside a theater watching inside.
That winner chicken dinner as our friend movie made me so angry.
I wanted to punch a baby.
Not that that's an extreme stretch for me, but I wanted to punch a puppy.
I was so mad.
He says that has plot holes big enough to drive a Mac truck through.
And the worst part is you can tell they were going through the script.
And somebody in the back was just going, yeah,
but what if fine will add something stupid for a second?
And I literally, I think the reason it made me angrier was because
Willem Dafoe is arguably one of the best actors I have ever seen in my entire life.
And the entire movie is basically him.
And there is so much that they could have done well with this.
And it became exactly what he did in the bathtub.
Yeah.
And I think this is one of the only films that all three of us have on the bottom 10.
There's an possibility.
I can't, I can't, everything Alex said.
I have to say, that's why I said winner winner chicken dinner to court our great price.
It is to me inside is the worst film of the year.
I would as to quote the great Richard Jenny.
And oh, oh, going back.
I had the choice to watch that movie again or give birth to a porcupine on fire.
I'm taking the second last painful option.
And for the record, if anybody ever yes,
want to be inside to me, I am assaulting them.
I am beating them with the nearest heavy object I can find.
It might be the worst movie I have ever seen.

I can't wait to review it.

There have been many things based off Disney rides.

But they did a really good job with this one.
It was just a fun movie.
They did it right.

The fact that they tried to do it in August during the strike just,
it was in July during the strike that should have been an October release
and it would have done better.

No, I was just prepping my list in anticipation because I actually didn't see haunted
mansion as much as you and Don both spoke highly of it.

Oh, it absolutely is.
It's, but it's also one of those where it's like,
I want to target that around Halloween and let's just say
the wheels of my world fell off during September.
So the end of the year was a theory.
The review was up on July 27th in the middle of summer.

I'm going to see if you remember this because
my number nine of 2023 was a movie that we were walking into
and I went, oh, this is not a good sign.
This is going to be terrible.
And the Super Mario Brothers movie made me so happy.
I watch this numerous times.
But because the press screening was very limited
and offshoot, not even a primary theater,
I looked at you walking in the door and went,
this is going to be a catastrophe.
And I love it.
Rainbow Road.
It's all I'm saying.
But this movie was so much better than any reason to be.
It was wonderful.
I enjoyed everything.
Like for me, it was number 19.
And I never thought I would say something about a movie.
I enjoyed that Chris Pratt was the worst part of it.
I can't give you a worst part because I loved everything.
The montage of the training montage,
I thought was hilarious.
The way they made me to hear our art was fantastic.
Like it made me almost forget about Bob Hoskins and John Lekwazama.
Oh, and God, who was Cooper in that?
That was Dennis Hopper, Dennis Hopper.
My number nine is a film.
Hollywood tends to do this thing when they release films early in the year
and then they get lost in the shuffle.
This is not a movie.
I don't know that I could see again.
But it's wonderful.
It's a tale of reluctant redemption.
It's called a good person.
This was Florence Pew and Morgan Freeman.
And I don't want to give any of the plot away in case people want to see it
because I highly recommend it.
It's very intense.
It runs the gambit of all of the things from a emotional standpoint.
It's very, very good.
But it came out way early in the year.
So I got buried by everything else and that's sad to me.
Is it streaming now?
I guarantee you it is.
It's probably on.
I think it's on prime video.

This one made your honorable mentions.
This film is basically goes back in time.
But I think it did get a good shop of showing the story or something.
And it was very heartfelt air.
The Nike story.
One of the best uses of soundtrack I've ever seen.

I have watched my favorite part of this was coming to the end of the year.
We are fortunate enough to get screeners sent to us and different things.

I was like, check it out.
I already bought the thing.
I watched it eight times.
Best use of a soundtrack ever.
And every every song that was used was perfect.
I have this in every I actually nominated it for best ensemble.
Because that's collective was so good.
Oh, it was so amazing.
I loved air and for those and we love our vendors sent in the studios.
We love them for those of you that know one of the one of the conditions
that Michael Jordan had was that Violet Davis played his mother.
That was that was a non-negotiable.
And they and they literally were like, okay,
then who do we get to play his dad so they cast her husband?
Yeah, it's such a great film and it's such a great story.
Quick note on a good person.
It is streaming on prime video.

And I don't know if you boys have seen it.
I saw it in a theater screening.
I got a very little run
in an age where international film becomes a bigger, bigger thing every year.
It's rare to find a film.
Oh, wait a minute.
Oh, you got the same one though, Alex, right?
You both had air at eight.
Correct.
Okay. I was like, I would have missed him.
No, both air and eight.
Okay. I want to make sure I didn't screw this up again.
It's rare to find a film that crosses genres in multiple ways.
My number eight film does that.
It is called polite society.
You did speak very highly of this.
If you put this on your list, if you haven't,
this is a British film with an Indian family.
They have two daughters.
Their younger daughter is still in high school,
wants to be a stunt woman.
The older daughter has left art school,
very down on herself.
And she meets a young man.
They have a whirlwind romance
and are engaged to be married.
The younger sister declares shenanigans
and it is part Western.
It is part Bollywood.
It is part Heist Film.
It is all of the things.
And it's, like I said,
it could be one of the most underrated films of the year.
Put this on your list.
It's probably somewhere on Prime Video.
I believe it is on Prime Video.
Go see polite society.
It is wonderful.
I loved this movie.
It's another one of those.
That was better than it had any rights to be.

So with the, we talked about Halloween and exorcist,
you know, doing films years later and trying to add to it.
And how the exorcist fell.
But on this one, and this is one of the few ones
where after a film, I went up to Rob and said,
were you happy with it?
Because I know what this would mean to Rob,
because I know his love for it and my love for it.
And they actually did it great.
Visually is one of the most beautiful films of the year.
Wonka.
Very much enjoyed it.
Wonka for me wound up at number 21
between Gran Turismo and the killer.
I really wanted to see this.
I have not yet.
It is still in theaters.
It is indeed.
But visually beautiful.
And in it, you were not disappointed in the end.
And I know how much of that original film out to you.

It's wonderful.
And Don's right.
I was very apprehensive going in.
It's one of the very few books I read multiple times as a kid.
I'm still hoping someday that we get Charlie
in the Great Class Elevator.
You're going to have to do some editing.
But the Gene Wilder film is very, very close to my heart.
We ignore what happened in the late arts.
But yes, in Shalame, it was 2009, I believe.
I watched it at a protest.
Shalame absolutely nails it.
He leans just enough into Gene Wilder
while still making the role of his own.
The stories are very engaging.
The music's great.
Yeah, it's everything works in that film and I'm so glad that it exists.
Shout out Rowan Ackinson.
Who isn't, but he's not in it very much, but I do love him.
And Shalame, nice job, sir.
Absolutely nice job.
Alex, number seven, before we move on from that,
would you say that Timothy Shalame is the single most talented actor
under 25 right now?
I'd have to do some research.
I think I would have to do some research as well.
But even his Apple commercials are phenomenal.
His Apple commercials are the best thing they put out on film this year.
Also, the week he is now the face of Calvin Klein.
That is also fair.
Number seven for me, if you had asked me at the beginning of the year,
if I thought any movie was almost guaranteed to be top five,
it's Spider-Man across the Spiderverse.
But it wound up falling to seven for me.
I defer.
I know you do.
It's amazingly done.
I can't wait to get to the next one.
But I think part of it is just a working knowledge.
I could see where we were going more than I wanted to.
I did wind up watching it post a couple of spoilers,
which I wonder if it would have changed my ranking.
And made it higher, but it's still a phenomenal movie.
Number seven for me is another film that Alex and I are diametrically opposed on.
Oh, really?
I absolutely loved Oh, Barbie.
It works on multiple levels.
It's.
It takes it borrows elements from the original Lego movie that I absolutely loved.
It talks about being your own person and being comfortable in your skin.
And I will never hear Matchbox 20 the same again.
And how there's one piece of it.
I wish they would have done towards the end.
But it did not take away from the enjoyment of this Marco Robi is absolutely phenomenal.
And I love that she is literally stereotypical Barbie.
I thought that was a great move.
Kate McKinnon is Kate Frickin McKinnon.
She's she absolutely.
She's the the conduit for a lot of it.
America Ferrara is absolutely spot on in this movie.
Ryan Gosling because apparently if they didn't get Gosling, the movie never would have happened.
The story of they offered it to Gosling.
He didn't understand it so he didn't take it right away.
And then walked outside saw one of his daughters,
Ken Dolls lying face down in the mud and all he did was take a picture of it,
send it to Greta Gerwig and said, all right, I'm in his story must be told.
Now, America Ferrara and Ariana Greenblatt is a perfect pairing as mother daughter.
Yes. Michael Sarah gets to use his Scott Pilgrim Kung Fu skills.
I just I thought this movie was spot on and I did not see it until middle of December when it hit Max.
So the hype machine was it's still in full force by the time I got to it and it's still held up
for me at number seven. I literally watched it two days ago. Oh wow.
All right, Don, you ready for number six?
Yeah. This one is a film that when I bring up personal experiences, but
I don't like bringing faith into it too much on some of my reviews.
That's fair. But on this one I did because there was a scene where we were sitting there
just shaking our heads and laughing because it was something that we personally dealt with.
And it's a movie that I think came out at impeccable timing because of the issue of what happened
with the withdrawal in Afghanistan. But this movie shows how screwed up the immigration system is.
And if I have a gripe to be if I want person who has a right to gripe about the system,
I feel I'm one person who has a legit gripe, but Kandahar.
I mean, the covenant. Sorry, the covenant.
Covenant's a good movie. Number 41 for me, right below Kandahar right above Haunted Mansion.
Yeah, that that scene when they're calling the immigration people trying to get a hold of
somebody and get this thing worked out. One time we called on my wife and it literally took 45
minutes for somebody to get even answer the phone. Literally, it was that bad. And that's where
we're shaking our head going, yeah, we're still dealing with it. But it's really at the time
of what happened up in Afghanistan, realistic everything. And I really felt for the people.
So it gets my number number six. All right, Alex.
You know, I had this movie sitting in my top three for a very long time.
And why not falling to six later on? It's mission impossible, dead reckoning part one,
arguably an infinitely too long title for an awesome, awesome action picture. And independent of
that, there was a lot of good historical callback stuff. Some really well done shots. Tom
Cruz doesn't know how to make a bad mission impossible. Well, and he's got Christopher McCory,
who is kind of his. For me, that's that at number 27 right above Hunger Games,
Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and right below Jesus revolution.
Number six, I will be shocked.
If all three of us do not have this movie in their top 10,
Don, if Don had doesn't, it's going to be right outside. There is no way in New Jersey
that Alex does not have this movie somewhere before the end of this episode mentioned.
When I have to see a movie a second time in a theater before it releases,
so I can fully take it in. The Iron Clock, different. This movie lives up to the hype.
Even with the minute detail issues that I had with it, for it to still be that great of a film,
I can't deny it. Like, I appreciate that there have been people that have reached out to me and
said, Hey, man, I wouldn't saw this. Can you help me understand XYZ? I think that's cool.
This movie is just that good.
Actually, it did not make my top 10.
Wow. Like I said, I would be more shocked if it didn't make Alex's, but I'm not shocked
that it didn't make yours, but it can't be that far out of it.
Actually, again, with my issues that are in the review,
them not even bringing one person in that I had issues with it, you know.
Yeah, for. Yeah. All right. Good movie. Good movie, but not.
Go ahead. I mean, you're right. All right. So my number five, I think was made of been saying something.
Oh, no, no, I'm just occurring. I will, I will rebut that statement, but I will defer.
Number five, there's a lot of times where we get people at film festivals and get directors
and stuff to talk about their film while ensuring which is great because we can ask questions about
it. But to be able to do it at a screening, a regular screening and not film festival
and have the director there. So we can ask questions about it.
Candahar loved that film. Different languages. I'm not a fan of soap titles, but how they
deal with different languages and everything else. And I was able to actually get through this
with the subtitles and everything, which I actually enhanced the film.
Very real life. Love the soundtrack on it.
Yeah, it's my top five. I know you were talking high about it too, Alex.
Yes, I actually wasn't at that screening. So that's why I did not include anything regarding that.
I learned about that after the fact that I was like, oh, that's a really cool touch.
But for my own experience with it, I just enjoyed it straight as a movie without those layers.
So that speaks volumes to it as well. Number 40 for me.
Alex, number five. Number five for me, I'm going to try and be a little bit quicker since we're
getting closer to 9 o'clock. Is a movie I'm glad I saw it home because there was a moment in it
that made me pause it, scream, holy f. Only I didn't say f for about 30 minutes.
Hunger Games, Ballad of Songbird and Snakes. Now, my background on it is well,
the Hunger Games series is the books I've probably read most. I am a huge fan of the books,
huge fan of the movies. This as Rob put, I don't want to steal your thunder if you want to
make the statement. No, go ahead. It is a brilliant standalone movie that only gets enhanced
by its connections to the prior. For me, this was one of, I believe, Alex's
honorable mentions. Number five favorite movie of the year, still a Michael J. Fox movie.
Brilliantly done. The way they told that story is fresh and cool and unfiltered Apple TV.
You redeem yourself with this. Go see this documentary. It is beautifully heartbreaking.
It's also incredibly clever for a documentary. Yes, yes, yes, yes, 100 times. Yes.
All right, let's keep it moving. Done. Number four, I've got a cat that's trying to walk.
My number four is a film that I made a reference of the flaming hot
where this one actually tells a true story in Latino things and did it right.
And this was basically John Gondaprim. And I thought if they would have released this later in a year
and had a lot of PR for it and they do a theatrical least, they would be talking nominations
possibly. But Michael Payne is with a million miles away about the astronaut, which currently is
featured on Prime Video. Yeah, I love that film. Very good.
All right, Alex number. I promise I wasn't trying to be clever. This along with dead
reckoning was at the top for a very long time. John Wick chapter four needs to get more credit
as a film. Now a lot of people were just talking about, well, it's just shooting and action
and violence. It's like, no, no, no, you need to go back and realize Chad Stahelski said, oh,

was coming visually loved it. It had based off true stories. And I think watching this, you
have to see it in a theater. And rarely they would say you should do something like a Dolby,
but this one did it. You know, it's coming Gran Turismo. That's my that's my bronze metal.
My Gran Turismo ranking was number 22. So not too far down the list. This is a great film.
Very much. This is the biggest omission from what I didn't watch yet. And David Harper.
Yeah, to see the theater. It's worth it. Loved it visually. Sound everything,
visually one of the best films in the year visually. That one you may have to come over here
and we'll watch together, Alex. Or you may have to come here. You know, four K. Yeah.

I love this movie. I very much enjoyed the experience of getting to talk to the director about
why Chris isn't included in the movie, but where there are tributes to him in multiple scenes,
and super intelligent imagery used in numerous places. I was actually mad when I saw how much
money this movie made in theaters, because all I could think was this is wildly too low.
People more people need to see this. It is so smart. And as much as I don't get along with a
certain group, getting to actually host a screening and answer questions was such a cool experience for
me about the wrestling basis and different aspects to it and how there was some intelligence behind
what looked like. Oh, it's just big dudes. No, it's a brilliant, brilliant movie.
This is another instance where Alex and I are diametrically opposed. We mentioned this earlier.
My bronze metal goes to it. It ain't over. I have a love for Yogi Vera that is nowhere near what
Alex has dealt with, but just what I know of him. And yes, there is an agenda to that film.
Like I get that, but just knowing that his story got to be told and just it gave me all the feelings
getting to see him in his prime and learning about all the things that he went through and the things
he did for other people. And was he safe? Was he not safe? My favorite part of that story of
how that went back and forth for decades. I loved it. I believe that's Apple TV, isn't it?
Yes, it is. There's a lot of Apple TV this year. Some good, some bad. All right.
Silver metal, Don. Here we go. This one, you guys, some of you have talked to this,
is Armble mentions and stuff. This film, when the Oscars are going to be announced and stuff
like that, this will get some nominations on this. It, one of a few of the awards with the North
Texas. I think that Paul J. Monter is going to get the Oscar for this one, the Holdovers.
Great film. Yeah. From the opening. Hit me again. Yeah. Oh, that's your four times, Rob.
That's absolutely brilliant film. Five percent of the movies we've talked about, you've hit
the same number as somebody. Yeah. But the Holdovers is absolutely wonderful. And it only makes it
better that Paul Giamatti, whose girlfriend is the dominatrix in billions, went to in and out
with his golden gloves. I love that picture. That was awesome. I didn't see that, but yeah. Yeah.
Great, great, great film. Love it. Silver metal, he is almost a one A, which at this point,
yeah, fair. Because it goes back and forth, depending on what time of day it is for me, Spider-Man
across the spiderverse. I was shocked at the number of people that didn't realize it was a two
parter since they'd been talking about it for six months. But that's just me. This film hit me
on every level. And in ways, I was not expecting. That's how good this movie is. And it did
the one thing. I've waited for a comic with movie to do my entire life. And that's put an
asterisk on the screen to explain stuff in the bottom right corner. All right, Don, what wins for you?
We're going to, we're going to land it for two hours, talk on it. This one, I think that you'd
be surprised that it actually won. But this film, if you take one element out, it'd be one of the
most boring films of the year. But this film, in five years, there's about five years, there's
going to be a chance I'm going to go to this location. Zone of interest. It's, you take out
the switch thing and it is a boring movie. Let me make sure I'm perfectly clear on this. Yeah.
The zone of interest is your number one film. This is 23. I am, I am in shock right now. Yep.
I am full on in shock right now because that was not the vibe I got from your, from your review.
Wow. No, I say people need to watch this so they do not forget. No, I agree with you 100%.
Yeah. And I mean, we're being the fantastic for their talking yearly trips like this,
October, it's Nigeria. We're going to talk where it's going to be Germany and Poland and one
trip and one thing I will definitely do is go to Auschwitz. So we do not forget that place should
remain for the rest of the time because that's something we should not forget in how people
can live normal lives and talk and just be eating lunch outside in the backyard and all this
here. And he hears screams and gunshots and dogs barking and he constantly hear the firm's going.
Okay. Yeah. Yeah. I want to say that I do not have zone of interest because it's a 2024 movie to
me because I go off to clarify I go off of release date. Yeah. Don goes off of when he sees it.
Well, so, but the other thing is Alex, it was sent to us as a screener for 2023. Yeah. No, no,
I understand that. But what I'm saying is I go off of release date. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
For me, number one, I've said it some from the time I've seen it was the best-acted movie I have ever
seen in my entire life and it's Oppenheimer. It is arguably would be boring as could be. Wouldn't
be boring as could be if you don't like drama, but it is fun. No, no, no. I agree 100%.
That's five for you, by the way. Not even what I'm going for. But I'm just saying,
this is a three hour movie that is three hours. There is there is no fat on three hours of film.
The fact that it in the third act it turns into an Aaron Sorkin courtroom drama and you don't
care because it's that good. If Robert Downey Jr. does not win an Oscar for this film, there is no
justice. I want to say I put that in my review. Silly and Murphy, I spent three hours going,
that's the scarecrow. How? This is amazing. This film, the reason it goes back and forth with Spider
Man across the spider versus I don't know that I can watch it again, but dear God, it's that good.
It works the angle especially towards the end that it's about what you don't see and what you
remember, that's the more powerful piece of it. Christopher Nolan is an absolute beast.
There's no other way to say it. I forgive him for insomnia.
And Louie Gorenzin. Yes. There's nothing about this film that isn't fantastic.
You and I agree. I don't know. That's all I can say. It's a film that just wow.
Don, where would you have Oppenheimer? Because I don't remember it being in your top 10.
It was a great film, visually great, but I hated how they passed over more important stuff and did
stuff that they put too much time in. The acting is great and everything. It would be in top 20.
Okay. You have like number 19, 18. Great film. Just like again, the iron claw, I looked iron claw,
but it wasn't in my top 10. Just a great film. Don't need to overlook Matt Damon's performance in
this too. Yeah, true. I feel like you could fill in any name that's in this movie at statement.
But yeah, it's a great film. Don't get that. I liked it. It was great. All right, we are right at two
