is the 9th of August in the year of our Lord 2020 season 11 episode 4. 537 times. This face andor this voice has welcomed you to the Clubhouse podcast live from Vocal Studios in North Dallas/ison, Texas. Your one-stop shop for all things pop culture and sports and entertainment and all that good stuff. Welcome. My name is Rob. I am the executive producer of the Clubhouse podcast. And uh man, we got a lot in store for you tonight. We're glad you're with us. Joining me across the table is my co-host and a man whose shirt seems to think he might be a little bit angry about something.
He is Alex. Welcome, sir. >> Well, I it it's 2020. Let's just point blanket period. 2020 has not been good. Uh it's been kind of great working from home. >> Yeah, I think that's the end of the list. >> I've just chose to stop complaining. It's debatable, but at the same time, it's just the whiskey tango fox trot of it all. Genro out on assignment tonight, so let's dive right in for a segment I was not prepared for, but I can be pretty quickly. Let's do some NASCAR talk. Got a lot of racing going on.
Looks like, let's see here. We were We had a double header this week at Irish Hills in Michigan. So, let's see if we can get you today's results, which we can. Here are your top 10 finishers. In 10th place, they didn't do the they don't do the whole thing like they normally do. In 10th place in the in the number one Chevrolet and number one in your heart, Kurt Bouch, Chase Elliot, attorney at law in the number nine Chevrolet in ninth place. See how that works out? Austin Dylan, the new sheriff in town.
He was in the number three Chevrolet. What's up? When we get to it, we have breaking news. >> Oh, okay. Let me get through the top 10 and we'll go right to it. >> That's why I did the hand motion. >> Fair enough. Um, in eighth place, Austin Dylan, number three, Chevrolet. Number seven, in the number 21 Ford, Nat Matt D. Benad. I got it right that time. >> Yes, you did. >> Sixth place in the number 10 Ford, Eric Almarola. Joey, I don't know. In fifth place in the number 22 Ford, 43 and two, all Toyotas.
So you have three Chevys, then three Fords, then three Toyotas. Kyle Bush, number 18 in fourth place bronze medal goes to Martin Bartux Jr. in the number 19. Number 11, Denny Moons over my Hamlin. And winning the race is and breaking the three-way tie this week in the number four Ford. Kevin Harvick wins the race this week. Let's get you some standings because we are only two weeks away from the playoffs. playoffs and this is if the playoffs started today. The odd men out and both we'll take the both two and th those two people are within 16 points of making the chase.
Those two people would be the aforementioned Austin Dylan and seven times seven times seven times seven times seven time seven times seven time champion Jimmy Johnson who is only three points behind Tyler Reic who has been holding on to that 16 spot for a while. Reic is three points behind Eric Jones. Jones is 26 points back on the poet William Byron. Denadto is 14 points ahead of him and but Denadto is only a point behind Boger. Boer is a lot behind Bo Bowman. He is 52 points back on Bowman. Bowman is 18 back on Kyle Bou and he is 17 back on his brother Kurt.
Kurt is 14 back on Alarola. Almarola, let's see, 19 28 38 9 4 points 47 points back on Trux. Trux is actually tied with Logano, but Logano has the tiebreaker. Logano is and both of them are 11 points back on Chase Elliot. Elliot is 42 back on Blaney. Blay is a whole lot almost 50 points back on Hamlin. Actually, he's 51 back on Hamlin. Hamlin 27 and six is 33 back on Kzalowski, but Kzowski is 94 back on Harvick. I think at this point Harvick is going to be your your number one seed in the playoffs.
Playoffs. I really like saying that. I don't know why. So, let's go to your upcoming schedule in the NASCAR as we march towards the Chase for the Cup. Scrolling, scrolling, scrolling. Keep the screen of scrolling. Okay, so we're racing two races next weekend in Delaware in Dover. Both of them have the same name. Saturday and Sunday, the dryen 311. I don't know what dry is. One word. >> I don't either. >> Why don't you I >> D R Y D E N E >> on it. >> And then uh then the following the following Saturday, August No, we're off next week.
So it's the 22nd and 23rd at Dover. Okay, hold on. I'm doing my math. Let me let me back that up. I apologize. Next Sunday, we're at Daytona for the Go Bowling 235 at the Daytona Road Course. I like the road course. >> I do too. >> And then the 22nd and 23rd, the the Dry Dean 311. And then Saturday the 29th will be the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona. So, we're going to Daytona to Delaware to Daytona because somebody doesn't own a map, which is kind of weird because you got a road course coming up.
Yeah. >> And then uh Labor Day weekend will be the Southern 500 at Darlington and that will be the first race of the playoffs. >> So dry Dean has some irony to it. >> It is it is dry Dean, but it is fluids, oils, lubricants, and uh exhaust fluid for diesel. Uh it's a lot of chemicals mostly based around motor oil. >> Okay, fair enough. Masletov trying to get somewhere else here. All right, let's get into some TV talk. Well, do you want to go >> actually sports talk? I'm sorry. >> Do you want to go to the breaking news?
>> Oh, yes. I'm sorry. Go ahead. >> Uh, within the last hour, uh, Power Five conference presidents have either gotten on a call and are currently discussing no fall football or just recently had a discussion where one president did let it slip that it doesn't look good. End quote. >> Well, as we get into sports talk, uh, we know that the MAC has been the first conference to have to cancel quote fall football. Mhm. >> The word active word I think there is fall. As we get into sports talk, we want to welcome in with Jen Ro on assignment.
We want to welcome in our engineer and host of Big 12 talk and a man who knows a lot about sports in general. He's in the hall. He is Jay Gillespie. Hey, brother. >> Hey, man. How's it going? >> You ready to talk about this thing? >> Yeah. >> So, let's start with the Major League Baseball. Let's get and we're going to go ahead and do standings because it is time. We can we we're almost halfway through. We're a quarterback, >> which is crazy to believe because we played 16 games, which means we're almost a third of the way through the season >> in the American League East.
Toronto at 5-8. Like, we can't even do run differentials because they just haven't had enough time. >> What's the run differential? >> Four. Uh, let's see. Toronto is, you know, they're they're five and eight and they're three and a half back. >> And they're tied with Boston. Boston has the tiebreak, but they're both a game and a half back on Baltimore, who are tied with Tampa Bay. They're both two games behind the Yankees in the AL Central. The Royals who win the week in promotion as they had a cardboard cut out of Willie Lomax from weekend at Bernie's not Willie Lomax.
That's death of a sales. Bernie Lomax uh in third the third row behind home plate the other day. God bless you whoever did that. They are seven and 10 right now, but they're only three and a half back. They've won four in a row though. So I wonder if uh Bernie's the good luck charm there. >> Oh, how great would that be? >> They're two back on the White Socks. The White Sox are a half game back on Cleveland. Cleveland is a half game back on Detroit. Detroit's a half game back on Minnesota. So, locked up in a tight one there in the AL West.
Five and 11 for LA. I can't even do the the echo thing, but it is the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles County, California, America, North America, Earth, Milky Way, Universe. Um, five and 11. You're six and a half back. >> Yep. And they've lost three in a row. They're a half game back on Seattle. Seattle is a game and a half back on Houston. Houston, who is tied with the Rangers at 6 and eight. >> They're four and a half out of first place. >> That's cuz Oakland's been >> Oakland's 11 and four.
>> Yeah. >> Let's go to the National League in the NL West. The Arizona Diamondbacks six and nine. >> They're five games back. They're tied with the Giants. Both of them are two back on the Padres's. The Padres's two and a half back on Misty's beloved Dodgers. The Dodgers only a half game back on Colorado right now. >> Mhm. >> Uh let's see. And then in the NL Central, Dons Pittsburgh Pirates. Oh, >> yep. >> They've won three more games than me and I don't even play. They're three and 13 right now.
>> Yep. >> They're on a three-game losing streak. They're one and nine in their last 10. And they're one they've won one one of their three wins is on the road. Yep. >> And they're eight and a half back. >> Yep. >> They would have to quadruple their total to get out of the basement. Uh they're three three four and a half back on the Cardinals. The Cardinals >> uh >> how is this possible? Oh, probably because the number of games number of games played. >> Uh Cincinnati's in the middle of the pack.
They're a half game back on Milo who's four back on the Cubs. And in the only division that matters, the NL East, uh Washington 4-7. They're three and a half back. They are a half game back on your beloved Mets, who are having a hell of a series with my Braves this weekend. By the way, sir, uh the two they're a half game back on Philly. Atlanta and Miami technically tied for the lead. >> The Mets are playing Miami this weekend. >> I thought they're Oh, no. The Braves are playing Philly, >> correct?
>> But the Mets are giving my Marwins headaches. >> Uh Marwins at seven and three right now. They're in first place, but they've also played six games less than the rest of the division. >> So, you have to grade on a curve there. But Atlanta at a plus n 19 differential. >> They are playing good. >> They're putting runs on the board. >> Yeah. >> And I actually get to watch my Braves and I'm very happy about this. >> Get rid of the one tone hats. >> The Braves did have some bad news this week with Sarroa.
Yeah. >> But yeah, get rid of the one tone hats, please. Even with the dark blue jerseys, it still looks like BP. >> It's very matted. >> It's very spring training. >> Uh let's see. Hold on. But uh >> oh that's that's just what you told me earlier about the the current news on uh Sroa which is the ace for the Braves. He did tear uh I believe it was his ACL he is done for the year >> headed to first trying to make a play. >> Mhm. >> Like that kid. >> Really good ball. >> I like this squad. Atlanta's got a great team this year.
>> I I would say that Ronald Akuna right now might be your best player in the majors. >> He's amazing. >> Yes. >> Big fan. >> Does everything. >> Uh St. St. Louis and Detroit cancel a four game set after 13 Cardinals test positive for COVID 19. >> If again, and we talked about this, and Jay, you were part of this uh conversation last week. If baseball can't get it together, >> what what hope do I have for football? I mean, I honestly >> I want to believe I'm going to get football here in about a month.
It's getting harder to believe every day. >> The big difference you have is that baseball kept sitting on their hands thinking they weren't going to have a season at all. and never move moved anywhere. While the NFL has worked on a number of different aspects to try and limit any kind of transmission ability and to make sure that they had a more sanitized environment, the problem with baseball is the fact that you couldn't do anything with it until it was live fire and then they did next to nothing.
Say a lot closer than next. Jay Jay's a big baseball guy. So I actually to yeah to Alex's point I mean I I thought that I mean NCAA right it's college football people can I I feel like you can contain the players a little bit more than you know grown men going out doing whatever they want but I feel like you know baseball it's they're still going they're still going forward with it. I mean, the commissioner seems to be somewhat, you know, I don't want to say unfased, but he he they're just going to keep going, you know what I mean?
I mean, the the season's still there. You know, I I just don't see I don't know. I mean, I feel like they probably would have pulled it a little while ago. I mean, unless it gets so much worse, but I don't know. I don't know. I I feel like they have contingency plans and plans in place and have have have implemented those. When someone like a team like the Marlins have had half the team, you know, come down with a positive test. >> Well, in St. Louis now, that's what a third of the team almost half.
>> It's more than half now. >> Yeah, they're still going through with the season. So, I mean, obviously, yeah, they're postponing some of the games. I mean, they didn't have a few of the games when the Marlins came down with all those posit positive tests, but they're still going through with it. I just don't know if there's a big differentiator at the college level when you have obviously these young kids who, you know, I don't know. I mean, are they going to be controlled, be confined? Is it going to be a bubble, you know, issue?
>> And now, as a guy who is the host of Big 12 Talk, which is College Talk here on Vocal, how do you do you think this is going to endanger the 2021 college baseball season? Um because I feel like the log jam that we could potentially see if the power five decides they're going to push football to the spring and that's going to go ahead and and and segue us into into NCAA football. The log jam that this could potentially create because Yukon is the first division one football team to say they're not going to have a season.
The MAC is the first conference, we said at the top of the show, to not have quote fall football, which then opens the door to a spring season. What does that do to college baseball? >> I think your, if I could interject real quick, please do. I think your big problem in this regard is that much like baseball with such a large roster going into something half blind is what you're dealing with on a college level as well. because I want to say it's about 95% of stadiums whether regardless of sport whether it be baseball, football, anything are all contained either within the grounds of the college itself or very adjacent to it.
So your problem there is that you do have well I I believe everybody that has a working microphone went to college and we all did dumb things. >> Some of us still do >> but at this college for that. >> But at the same time, you're going to have that situation where everything is already interwoven. So, you can't even isolate in the result of a positive test. Whereas professional athletes probably should have, and what I I don't know if we talked about it on air, but one of the ideas that I was reading up on and kicking around and trying to evolve on was you have the bubbles, which is working fantastically for the NHL and the NBA right now.
But when you do that, you isolate and say you have your month's worth of teams and have one either neutral site or whoever hosts that grouping of games and have those four teams bubbled to play their series at that one, then shift to the next bubble, wherever that may be, and then each team hosts a bubble of it in the games of who they face. Otherwise, you're just letting these guys who, let's be honest, baseball players not far behind the NBA of not listening and still going out and doing their thing, >> especially when you play in a place like St.
Louis that may not have as much going on and then they go down to Miami and think, "Hey, South Beach is right around the corner." >> Yeah, I I I uh I think that's a good point to bring up. I I think there's as you know there's a big difference between you know obviously college football as as schools right these people are players they're student athletes right so I mean they're they're not >> you know these teams in the at a professional level are owned right they have an owner I mean these the these college players belong to an institution and that institution has to make a decision that you know it's not I guess it's in what I'm saying It's a little bit more bureaucratic and maybe more complicated to get something done so quickly as opposed to an, you know, an MLB or NHL or NBA where you have one lone owner of the team or maybe two, right?
And you can make easy decisions and you're much more more mobile in the decision-m process as opposed to I do like your idea kind of that four team bubble and have it do a round robin. I just don't know if it and I like I again I like it. don't know if it's feasible uh to do that in such a quick manner, but I don't know. We'll see. You know, I mean, >> and and and what I'm not saying that it's something they go to now. I am 100% saying it's too late for them to do anything like that that 14 bubble.
I'm saying these are discussions that baseball should have been having for months >> that I don't think they ever did. I don't think baseball had any plans on having a season or everything would be, you know, light switch fixed and they could just go back to business as usual. Uh like you were saying that they have to answer to in colleges. There is somebody who has the decision maker. That's why you have these conference presidents as well making those decisions, but you need other people to buy in.
>> So there is that level. >> D3 has canceled all their fall championship games too >> for all fall sports period. >> Yeah. I don't think they have anything going for fall sports, let alone just the championship games, if I'm not mistaken. >> I don't know for sure, but >> uh the Big 10 and the Pack 12 both have coalitions for unity and equality. Now, uh the Big 10 has the unity group. There are two different ones in the Pack 12. There there's the We Areed. There's the race for justice group as well.
They're trying to unite the football players to opt out of the season in the Pack 12. >> Another thing they're asking >> started at Washington State, I believe. Well, no. Washington State was the first to be highlighted because one of their coaches was trying to talk one of the players out of joining it. >> Oh, okay. >> Uh, but >> that was the first publicity I saw in it. >> One of the things they want is 2% of revenue to go to underprivileged uh players and students of color, which I'm on board with.
>> Absolutely. >> Again, equality all about it. >> Mhm. >> Uh, only NFL headline this week comes from OBJ, who says the league should cancel the season because the owners quote, don't see us as humans, end quote. Uh to be fair, he did retract that statement. >> Did he? Okay. I had not heard that. >> He had said that initially. Okay. Was invited to come look at any of the measures being taken by the NFL and being dictated to teams regarding sanitation and take and take it and he retracted it. And this is this is why I have hope for the NFL season happening.
>> If somebody as outspoken as OBJ, who has stood on some pretty shaky ground because of what he has said to start, >> is willing to go back and go, "Oh, they have some stuff figured out. we're okay to the point where he has shown up at training camp as well. >> Good. >> That gives me hope. >> And that's also growth for him as a human, too. >> Absolutely. Uh but there are a number of people who have said they really know what they're dealing with in the NFL. They have some plans and they are willing to make sure they can get through.
Like we had touched on a couple weeks ago about the the lack of preseason games keeping them from being able to do test runs on that. However, when you're thinking about these teams isolating and having an entire week to test and practice, there is a lot that the NFL benefits from from only having one game per week, assuming no buy uh one game per week that allows them to do more testing and to stay on top of things. >> Well, in some cases, you would play two because of the Thursday night game. >> Well, I I'm I'm merely saying that theoretically they they play once a week.
That's why the schedule is set up in weeks. I'm not talking about that they wouldn't be playing like say a Monday to a Thursday if you know a >> hopefully there won't be a Sunday through a Thursday but >> but what I'm saying is is that you have those aspects where there are days where they can test within because apparently they can get tests back real quick and their their numbers are significantly lower than what was anticipated on positive tests. So >> well hard knock starts this week so we'll be interested to watch >> it does it starts on the teams two nights from tonight.
Uh, I just kind of got giggly because Atlanta came back with a vengeance and put an eight nothing hurting on Philly in the second game of that double header. >> So, some TV news from ABC. It looks like we're getting a who's the boss revival. >> Angela, that's my Tony Danza. >> But it's going to focus on uh Samantha as a single mother. >> So, you've got Tony Danza and uh Alyssa Milano are signed. or as ChickM Mickey said or no I think it was Josh Arnold said if they can work around her tweeting schedule >> or her complaining >> she does a lot of Twitter man uh Amazon has renewed Hunters for season two >> good so there's that and they have uh they are greenlighting a series based on a league of their own >> pretty heavy hitters though no pun >> intended but nice one uh I don't know how I feel about that though because it was such a great >> I don't want to call it microcosm unto itself but that is such a great film that I I worry that it gets watered down.
>> We'll see. We'll see how it works out. >> I'm willing to give it the shot, though. >> And uh Lindsay Vaughn is getting a new show on Amazon called The Pack. >> I think that she'll be very interested in this because this is about the bond between dogs and their humans. >> I worry about that because I I get emotional when it comes to animals. I I very soft and fluffy with that regard. So, I I I hesitant with or I hesitate with anything like that because nothing's ever 100% positive. >> But I I'm I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt.
Yeah, it it's it's in the realm of I wish everybody well. Uh AMC has renewed Soulmates for season two. Uh there's something called Brat TV that I've never heard of, but they're renewing Chicken Girls for season 7. So apparently it's been a thing for a while, so I figured we just mentioned it on the show. >> Or their seasons are a month long. >> That's true. Uh Comedy Central is going to be reviving Ren and Stimpy. >> I'm very very very torn about this. There's another animated series I'm more more excited about right now than this, especially with this documentary coming out about uh the guy that behind it and how unstable things were with him.
Uh Epics, interesting series to them. It's a docue series coming September 14th called Enslaved. It is a docu series with Samuel L. Jackson where he uses a DNA test to find his ancestral tribe and it traces his journey to Gabon to be inducted into the Benga tribe. H >> I am very interested in this. >> That is very very interesting. >> And apparently there's going to be three different storylines about his journey that are all going to inter intertwine in the show. >> Oh, very cool. >> Very interested in this.
Uh Hulu has canceled High Fidelity after one season and Zoe Kravitz has lost her mind about it. Uh but they have renewed Love Victor and Taste the Nation both for season 2, but still not the biggest story of the week. I want you to go to your calendar right now. Reach your hands. Put touch the screen. Go to your calendar right now. Did you just dusty that? >> I did. >> Okay. >> I want you to circle November 20th on your calendar. And the following 13 weeks after that because it will be time for the revival of Animaniacs.
We don't know much. We've saw that. We saw a piece of artwork the other day that had the Hulu logo and yako wacko and dot on it. We are being told that Pinky and the Brain will be in every episode in one form or another. >> 13 episodes. >> I've waited for this day. >> I'm worried. >> I'm not Spielberg's still involved. I'm good. >> But some of those lines, I have been re-watching the entire series as part of my windown about every other night since I have the I now have the TV in the guest room. I'll burn through five episodes in a night.
So, which is a whole disc since it's not available on Blu-ray. Um, but oh, so ready for this. >> I know you are the biggest the biggest one or one aime >> animeaniac fan. >> Animeiacs fan. Sorry, I got caught in between breath. Animeaniacs fan. I know >> and I do remember I watched it after school every day. So, I still have my video tapes where I taped it when I was if I had to work and some of them have the old commercials in it. I need to get my VCR hooked up so I can watch them and see what the see if see if they hold up.
>> Wow, there's a phrase I didn't think I'd hear. >> 29 checking in. >> There is a phrase I never thought I'd hear again. I need to get my VCR hooked up. >> Probably going to look terrible on that screen, too, >> probably. >> Um, there's a thing called the Magnolia Network coming and it's called that. It used to be called HGTV. Oh. But Chip and Joanna Gaines have bought it and they are turning it into the Magnolia Network. >> I don't believe they bought I believe they have a group that's fun. >> Well, they're but they're heading this thing because they're bringing back Fixer Upper after the conversion, >> right?
And Magnolia is her brand. >> Correct. >> Well, technically their brand. >> Uh Simon Cowell >> has broken his back in a cycling accident that came down this morning. He's going to have surgery. They said he's going to be he's under he's okay currently. He's under observation. Uh but he got an electric uh bicycle that he was riding and got into an accident. But >> but yeah, that happened uh late early this morning. >> Well, we hope nothing but best for him. >> Uh and we talked a couple of weeks ago how the Harry Potter movies were leaving HBO Max.
They're going to Peacock >> by the end of the year. >> Say that one more time. >> The Harry Potter movies Yeah. are leaving HBO Max and they're going to Peacock by the end of the year because NBC Universal, Universal has the park, even though they're Warner Brothers films, which is part of the HBO family. It's a very strange bit >> there. There's a bit of handholding and who who did what there. >> A lot of checks being cut, I think. >> Yeah, that's >> uh from Netflix, Amy Adams is going to star in a limited series coming up called Kings of America.
This looks really interesting. Uh, it revolves around Walmart and it's the true story of a Walmart aerys, a maverick executive and a longtime Walmart saleswoman and preacher who dared to fight against them in the largest class action suit in US history. I'm very interested in this. >> This this feels very McMillions like you had as far as not the content but >> it's a narrative. It's >> but what I'm saying is is the interesting level to it using something that everybody knows. So, I'm looking forward to that when when that happens.
Uh, the only thing on TV on DVD and Blu-ray this week, the complete series of Eureka, if you're interested, if you're into that show. >> Nope, I wasn't. Uh, a couple of things from music this week. Taylor Swift's Folklore is now her seventh Billboard number one album. >> That seems unfair. >> She does very well. >> Um, Sony has picked up the Whitney Houston biopic called I Want to Dance with Somebody. Just go watch the documentary Whitney. That gives you everything you need. >> Yeah, >> we don't need a biopic of this.
>> Just like we had one of Artha Franklin last year. I don't need this thing with Jennifer Hudson. And you know, I'm not a fan of her to begin with. Uh Kiki Palmer will host the VMAs this year and all of your performances will be outside in New York City. >> Interesting. >> So Barclays is going to have to wait till 2021 at the earliest to host the VMAs. >> Have they said it's multiple venues? >> Multiple locations. >> Okay. I'd be very curious to see what venues >> crowdless too. >> Good. >> So that's what they're working towards.
But if you're outside >> because we we have a bit of crossover issue that has been reported with the other show to this. I don't know if you had that for music news. >> I do not. >> Uh Fuzzy and Chris Jericho in some hot water right now. >> Oh, really? No, I had not heard this. >> They had a show in South Dakota yesterday. Not a mask or distancing in sight. So, after the Chain Smokers incident, after the Great White incident a few weeks before that, >> come on, Chris. You're better than that. >> Yeah.
>> And we can attest to the fact that you're better than that because we met you personally. >> Yes. >> Sure. It was 15 seconds, but we met you. >> It was a great 15 seconds. >> It really was. Couldn't have been nicer. Uh Kanye has a running mate, I guess, now. >> I thought he dropped out. >> No. Um, he got kicked off the ballot in Illinois for over 1,900 false signatures. Oh, but his running mate allegedly is a Michelle Tidball. Tib TB- A L. She is a 57year-old Wyoming based biblical life coach.
Uh she has a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Wyoming and also works in a dental office. And she has some very strange opinions on things. Surprise, surprise. >> She looks like if she if Sarah Palin was more insane. >> There's that. Uh, Friday you're going to get the new Miley Cyrus single. It's called Midnight Sky. Once again, this is on in the realm of I want everybody to be successful. I just don't care. >> Well, you know, like I heard that the Party in the USA yesterday and I was still a bit of a toe tapper, not going to lie to you.
>> I I can't hear that without having a twitch. Uh, music new releases this week. Katy Perry gets her new album Smile this week and Robbie Kger from The Doors, a brand new album called The Ritual Begins at Sundown. And you know, I'm gonna say it. I was I've been really listening to a lot of music lately, too. I'm not afraid to say it. The Door's a little overrated. Oh, that's a hot take. Cuz >> that's spicy hot. >> Like I love The Doors, though. I I really do. Like I enjoy the music, but people putting them in certain top 10 lists.
>> I don't know that I'd have them in the top 50 bands of all time. >> Okay, that's incredibly spicy. >> I don't >> I There's also a part of me that says maybe you didn't do enough drugs. Um but >> or they did too much. >> Probably a combination of the two. >> One of my favorite HSOs from Tom Griswald was that if he had a time machine, he'd go back and get the doors a bass player, >> which I thought is great. >> That's pretty funny. Uh, I just I listen to the stuff and I'm like, first of all, Jim Morrison loved him some Jim Morrison.
>> That is also true. >> Secondly, a lot of the stuff he wrote was so whacked out because he wanted to be like really ethereal, man. Like, I don't care. Just that's a lot of acid. Sing light my fire and then move on. People are strange. Come on. I mean, let me put it this way. Their peak is really good, but it's just less of it than other bands. Um, >> Quick Rise, Quickfall for me. >> Okay, I could I could I could go with that. I I like LA Woman. That's a good song. >> That's a good one, too. Yes.
>> I like Light My Fire a lot. >> Everybody likes Light My Fire. >> The End is too pretentious. >> A little bit. >> Even though it's in one of the greatest films ever made. >> It's in a number of good films, actually. >> Well, I'm talking about Apocalypse Now. >> Oh, I understand. >> The only one that counts. Um, >> I think that's a dismissive statement, but I agree. That's the only one that counts. >> Uh other than that, I mean, I'd have to look at a list, but there's nothing else that comes to mind that I'm like, that's a contribution.
>> Yeah, I I'd have to look it up. I just >> And it gave Val Killer one of the best roles he ever played. >> Well, it was kind of impressive that he could sing that well because that's not dubbing. >> That's that's really amazing work by him. Uh I I would have to do the research. I will say that uh allegedly much of my Doors love comes from a lack of sobriety at those times. So it >> but I think that was a lot of their popularity too. A large percentage of the population was into the same things that they were into at the time.
>> Yeah. But that's one of those ones where it's I feel like I have to go back and listen to the music with a fair and open mind and be like, "Okay, was this as good as I remember or was I just having a really good time?" I mean, one of my favorite things there, it was a live recording and it's clear as day and it I giggle every time I hear it where he starts talking about horoscopes and there's this girl in the audience. She's like, "Yeah, totally, man." And then he goes, "I think astrology is a bunch of people." And she's like, "Yeah, f astrology, man." Like same voice.
I I just sobby optional. All right, let's get into movie talk. Oh, we got some things to talk about there. Probably the story this week that is the biggest story that was under reported. Have you heard of the Paramount consent decree? I have not. So, in the 50s there was a decree called the Paramount Consent Decree that was done by a federal court. >> Okay. that said movie studios cannot own theaters >> because what was was happening was they would book only their films in their theaters so it would shut a lot of the competition out.
They would regionalize things. They would make uh chains that weren't owned by them have to take rights to a block of films. So you'd get a Jurassic Park and probably like 19 films they just wanted to throw away just so they could get those films into theaters. >> So this past week a federal court has said that the those days are over. So movie studios can now own theaters which is going to be interesting because they one of the other things they could do is what they call retail resale price maintenance where they could fix the minimum price for tickets.
um indie film's going to be affected by this, but I think it's auspicious that this is happening now because think about what we talked about on the show about three months ago. Who was sniffing around to buy AMC theaters? >> That was Amazon, wasn't it? >> Which technically, if I see this decree, right, they couldn't >> because they are they are a studio, >> right? They are a studio in name, but they don't have any uh what's the word I'm looking for? Any uh uh brick and mortar, >> right? Yeah. Um, Disney owns the L Royale in LA, >> but that's a different situation.
>> But the thing is, until this past week, there was a lot of yellow red tape that you had to get through to get there, >> right? >> Not anymore. >> Oh, wow. >> Um, I don't see Amazon doing this if they did buy AMC because so many AMC's have so many auditoriums in them. Yeah. >> You got to fill them with something. And Amazon Studios doesn't have the guns to be able to say, "We're only showing Amazon Film Studios in 24 screens at Stonebrier in Dolby Atmas and IMAX and everything else." I can I can sell you on a different route.
Okay. What does Amazon have a lot of recently and has been doing a lot of work with that they may want to sell tickets to as an event as their debut? and they break down something like what we talked about in TV talk with hunters and we start seeing film studio or auditoriums where they're dedicating TV to it. >> Shaky at best. >> It is shaky. I 100% agree with you. But is that really outside the realm of possibility? >> It's not outside of possibility, but the likelihood is slim. >> I would be on board with it just because of Prime.
>> Let let me put it this way. You give me each month has an episode of The Boys. I will go three times >> something that good. >> Maybe >> I They have some properties behind them. They have some power. >> But I think the the appeal of that is that you get to watch it in your own home versus >> Yes, there is an appeal. But what I'm saying is is those ones that they put a lot of money and effort into, and I'm going to keep circling back to The Boys cuz it's the best reference I can make because it hits that superhero vibe that people like.
It has that darker bit. They put so much into the um optical view and the optical resolution as well as any >> the aesthetics of it. Uh, I was going to go more with the optical of how grandiose it is and then into the aesthetics of how much they put into the art department as well as having but like what I'm saying is let me let me put it in a different light for you. >> Okay. >> Before everything came off the rails. I I just want I want to put I want to No, no, no. A different kind of world breaking.
>> Okay. >> I want to put an asterisk on there just because there's going to be that Well, what about season 8? If somebody told you that you could have, say, an AMC Stubs pass and you could get to go watch Game of Thrones premiere in a theater in Dolby each week. How intrigued would you be by that? I can't say it would be 0%. >> But it's in there. But I'm probably not the right person to ask that question. That's a fair point. That's a fair given my home situation. >> Allow me to put it in a different aspect.
>> Okay. >> Think about the fact that there are cruises and conventions dedicated just to Walker Stalker Con >> of The Walking Dead, even though that hasn't been good in years. >> But there are people that spend buou bucks on it. and you tell them that you could go see it, you know, in a Dolby theater. I see there being a niche for this. >> There's a niche for anything. I just I'm saying is if they had theaters to fill, you run it for a week and you're into another thing because you have your studio.
>> I feel like they could put their toe in the water and find out that there's in my opinion it's not a big viability thing, but it could I could be completely wrong, >> but I just I don't know. >> I could see it working. Could it also fail epically? Yeah, everything could fail epically. It's a possibility. >> Sure as heck could cut down on the people spoiling stuff while it's still on. >> That is also true. So, Mulan not going to theaters. Now, September 4th, the Friday before Labor Day, you will be able to watch the liveaction version of Mulan on Disney Plus.
However, >> I'm sorry. Could you say that date one more time for me? >> September 4th, >> the Friday before Labor Day. >> Interesting. >> But it's not part of your Disney Plus membership. >> It's what they're calling a premium viewing that'll cost you 30 bucks. >> Black Widow alleging to follow this way in October. This to me is if you're going to do it this way, I think Disney doing it this way is smart business model because they don't have to pay the VOD services, >> right? >> They get all the money.
>> That's true. And they may hurt themselves. I'd be curious to see if it's a $30 for one viewing or you get like a $30 here's your 24h hour window >> for the weekend. >> I could see that being very interesting, especially since >> Trolls World Tour. That's all you need to know. Well, but the other aspect is is yes, you get Labor Day, but you have Amazon dropping their biggest product on September 4th. You have Disney dropping that on September 4th. >> Yeah, if you're talking about two completely different audiences if you're talking about the boys.
>> Well, but I'm I'm saying that that's just one example, but they're dropping there are multiple services dropping multiple things on that day, >> right? But I don't know of anything that would compete with Disney's demo on that. That's a valid point >> because it's for 30 bucks. If I'm a parent and I've if I've got my wife and I've got two kids, I'm already winning. >> That's true. >> I don't have to worry about my kids acting a fool in a movie theater. >> Mhm. >> I can go to Sam's and spend about 20 bucks and have enough candy to fill my backyard.
>> I'm at home. >> 20 bucks at Sam's. You might be able to buy your own popcorn machine. >> I'm just saying. >> Yeah. Um, I don't have to worry about going back and forth to the theater, loading the kids in the car and everything else, dragging them through the mall. >> It's a smart move. Um, but Black Widow to me, this is going to be the real test of VOD because now granted, by that point, we'll have had the Bill and Ted experiment come and gone too, >> which has actually been moved up a week. >> Yes.
Black Widow I think would be one a group of us splitting the cost and like getting together at my place and watching that because I don't know that I would pay 30 30 bucks just for myself to watch Black Widow. Yeah, I could see if you were by yourself how that would be a little bit of a gray area. Honestly, I could see myself being very happy with that. Like, say it's a midnight drop. >> Uh, give it a date. Uh, call it uh October 16th. I want to say that's a Friday. >> I don't know. Give me a second.
I can tell you. >> Uh, well, just hypothetically, we'll say whatever. A Friday, they want to drop it at midnight. I could totally see being one of those people where I'm like, okay, 30 bucks is a bit rich. >> October 16th. >> So, that's what I said. Perfect. I nailed it. >> Good call. uh say that drops at midnight, I could totally see spending the $30 to see it, get it out of the way, be able to have everything before anybody else, and then, and I'm going to say this, and it's going to sound really pretentious, and then chipping in to spend another $30 to watch it with friends later that day.
Not to say, "Oh, look at this." or something like that, but so that I could number one get as much of it in before people start memeing it because that's going to happen. People start, you know, dropping clips because that's going to happen. >> That makes me sad. >> But it it's going to happen. >> No, I'm not saying it's not going to happen. >> But that way I can get the viewing in for myself, but then the other viewing of being able to see it because you know how if you watch something more than once, you see it with different eyes.
>> Yeah. and then being able to have that group conversation which I think would be awesome material for I don't know behind a wall of pay uh something along those lines maybe. >> Um >> but I could see dropping the 30 bucks on it. Now like I said it sounds pretentious for me saying yeah I drop 30 bucks twice on something like that if it's good or even if it's decent and I get to talk to people about it afterwards. That's one of the things, and this has been the bane of my existence somewhat to an extent, is the fact that nobody else I know seems to have watched Hamilton, and I can't talk about it with people.
I'm having a problem with committing 2 hours and 40 minutes right now. >> Like I said, the first time I watched it, it wasn't 2 hours and 40 minutes for me. I stopped at the intermission and I picked it up the next day and it worked perfectly because there's such a clear divide. Now, we're getting off subject, but what I'm saying is is I could totally see that being the selfish of I want to take this in before anybody else can ruin it for me. And then the spending for the group effect of it. I can see both sides.
>> Okay. Uh anti antibbellum is actually going to go straight to VOD now. That'll be on September 18th. >> Oh, I know somebody who's very excited for that. >> So, be ready for that >> because it's not something for you, >> right? Of course that. And speaking of things that are not for me, but I thought was amazing. Have you seen the newest Candyman trailer? >> I have not. >> It's basically the backstory of Candyman done with Shadow Marionettes. >> Oh wow. >> It's brilliant the way it's done. >> I still got to see that.
>> So yeah, look up the latest trailer when you get a second. It's just it looks gorgeous. >> Uh and as we say, we always support Jordan Peele. >> Exactly. Somebody that we haven't mentioned in a long time is back in the news. uh Peter Dinklage. >> Okay. >> He is going to be teaming with director Joe Wright and Haley Bennett uh for a musical uh film based on an off Broadway play they did last year, a musical of Sirino de Berserk. Okay. Wow. Called Sirino. >> Yeah. Well, he has that and the uh the other thing coming up which is the I want to say it's a the vampire movie.
>> Oh, yeah. Mhm. that we talked about a couple weeks ago. >> Y that might have been a month or two ago. >> Uh Danielle Brooks, who is in Orange The New Black, she's going to be playing she's going to be a bio a biopic playing gospel legend Mahalia Jackson >> and it is a strong resemblance. >> Oh, good. >> I've seen a side by side. Uh we talked about Candyman just a minute ago. The director of the remake, Nia Dcastto, will be your Captain Marvel sequel director. >> Oh, interesting. >> So, whenever that happens, >> uh in that same vein, did do you have news on James Juan on the run list?
That's coming. >> Understood. >> Uh, your next Disney live action they're going to be working on is Pinocchio, Tom Hanks and in talks to play Japetto. >> What What happened to Robin Hood? >> Have not heard anything new. >> Okay. Because remember they were talking about that's the next one. That's the next one. That's the next one. >> I've heard no casting news at all. >> I wonder if they've dropped that in favor of Pinocchio. >> I hope so >> because Tom Hanks, uh, John Wick four and five are going to be filmed back to back.
>> They're going to matrix it. >> You are feeding conspiracy theories. I don't want to listen. >> No, no, no, no. I am not feeding conspiracy. I'm only referencing the fact that they shot two and three of the Matrix back to back. Did they not? >> Yeah. I'm just saying >> I I know exactly what you're referring to. >> Jim Bragel is not going right now. >> I am not going there. >> Ben Affleck's next directorial project will be uh based on a book about the making of Chinatown. >> Oh, really? >> And it's called The Big Goodbye.
>> Interesting. >> I'm very interested in that. And as you mentioned earlier, James Juan working on a film version. Nightrider. Yep. There has not been a single version of this done since the original that has worked. Jay, are you familiar with Nightrider? Wow. I I hate that that's an actual question. No, >> I vaguely. Yeah. So, Night Rider was a show in the 80s which I absolutely loved. >> May I ask one question before we go on? >> You just did. >> Let me I want to ask him one question before we go on.
>> Jay, do you remember who the star of Nightrider was or do you know? >> I do not. No. >> Okay, that's where I wanted to start with. >> So, David Hasselhoff was at Night. >> Wow. Jump right in. >> I'm just going right for it. It is available on Blu-ray. I need to get it because it was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid. Nightrider and A Team back toback was a great night. >> I loved A Team. I like the movie they did. I really did. I did too. I loved that movie. I >> with Mason. >> Yes. >> Quinton Rampage Jackson.
>> Absolutely. >> Uh Bradley Cooper. >> Yes. >> And Charlton Copley. GOT IT. YOU GOT ALL OF THEM. NICE. >> NAILED IT. THANK YOU very much. Uh but Michael Knight was part of a >> I'm not going to go with the Jessica Beal because she was great in that too. She's great in everything. >> Um how you doing? Uh, so Michael Knight was a guy who was helping a private eye firm and the car was called Kit Kitt the Knight Institute 2000 and they would have adventures. >> A talking car. I just want to confirm that J.
>> The voice and the voice of the car was the guy who played Mr. Feny on Boy Meets World. >> Yes, it was. >> Yes. >> And there was actually >> It was just as pretentious as it was. >> Well, and there was an episode of Boy Meets World where they actually referenced it which was awesome. >> So meta. They they did a version of it as a miniseries where it was a it was like a fleet of cars >> and then they did Nightrider 2000. >> Oh, that was terrible. >> Yeah, they've tried this like four or five times >> and there was one where in the commercials it was the voice of Val Kilmer and then something happened legally where Kilmer couldn't do it and so by the time it aired it was Will Arnett's voice which was even weirder.
Well, I I want to say that Kilmer had a contract and they thought it didn't apply because he wasn't going to physically appear and then it turned out because it was a credited role. >> But James Juan, who knows action, I mean, I'm willing to give it a shot because this I love the premise of the computerized car that does cool stuff. Absolutely. Turbo boost. And I loved how they you knew when the budget got bigger because in the early seasons, kids voice was just a blinking light. Yeah. And then they changed it so it looked like a little uh equalizer.
>> Yes. Um, my grandmother had an unhealthy obsession with David Hasselhoff as Michael Knight. >> Have I ever told you my favorite David Hasselhoff story? >> Possibly, but not on air. >> So, as we know, David Hasselhoff also very big musically in Europe, >> mostly Germany. >> They love him over there, >> especially Germany. So, there was a plan put together that he was doing this huge pay-per-view concert that was supposed to be his, for lack of a better term, coming out party for America. >> Like, this was going to be the thing that made him a huge star stateside.
>> And that was before concerts were a pay-per-view thing. This was like >> it happened rarely, but it did happen. But what I'm saying is this was a rarity that it would >> getting ready to go on air and a white Bronco hits the freeway. >> Yep. >> And no pun intended, the wheels and he never recovered. >> Would have been a much shorter trip if it did. >> Yeah. So there is that movies on DVD and Blu-ray this week. Um >> Oh, did you see the HSO on Justice League? The SN cut though, >> the picture they unveiled yesterday.
>> Not that. No, no, that's another aspect. But >> they they unveiled a new picture of Stephen Wolf and he looks awesome, but it's still a weird >> Well, there's mild spoilerish >> in three, two, one. >> The actor that plays Dark Side, >> no. >> Has come out and stated that just the trailer of the SN cut blows anything Jos Weeden ever did out of the water. >> So, it's not Mark Henry, >> excuse me, >> didn't Mark Henry was trying to be dark side. He was trying to be the He was trying to be dark side and they the only thing they talked to him about was about the fact that he was massive, but it is Ray Porter.
I I'll have to pull it up. He's been he's done a lot of voice acting. >> Oh, okay. Uh I I want to say he helped with trans. >> We're about a week and a half away from Fandome. >> DC is a virtual con uh convention, >> so we're allegedly going to get a whole lot more to look at about that. I'm looking because there was one that stood out when I was looking at his filmography and for some reason I'm under the gun and failing. >> So DVD and Blu-ray this week. I love the name of this movie. Max Reload and the Nether Blasters.
That is a great game. So let me let me give you the plot line here. A small town video game store clerk must go from zero to hero after accidentally unleashing the forces of evil from a cursed Ka Vision game. Max Jenkins gaming fantasies collides with reality when a legendary quote lost installment of the Nether game series appears on a store counter of his workplace Fallout Games. Unbeknownst to Max, the G Max, the game bears a quote curse of the ages. And in playing it, he has just unlocked the Nether, an ancient malevolent force of evil from the cartridge upon his small hometown.
Along with a mysterious masked man and his two best friends, Liz and Reggie, Max must figure out how to beat the Nether at its own game before it's game over for humanity. I hate you, Jumanji. The narrator, Quillon, I hate you, Jumanji. Um, Greg Grunberg is in this. Okay, it's got a little bit of a benefit. Um, and in the role of Chuck, happy belated birthday to Kevin Smith. I'm I'm in. I'm all in. >> Uh, directed by Scott Condid and Jeremy Trimp, who also did the screenplay. >> Ah. Um, so circling back real quick, the one that caught me was Ray Porter has actually done a number of animated stories based on biblical times and New Testament and is routinely cast as Satan.
Nice. Also, a movie called Crushed This Week, which is about a bunch of girls uh in college who decide they want to be popular and go to a party where people have crushes on each other. And the complete films of Agnes Varta go to the Criterion Collection this week. Still got my eye on that Bruce Lee set, but nobody has it used. Yeah, it's all new. >> So, let's get into some tech talk, shall we? >> Sure. Let's just start with uh Microsoft looking to buy Tik Tok. I don't care. I'm too old for this because it's going to get banned.
No one's going to be able to use it. It's going to go It's going to go horribly wrong. Microsoft's going to fix it. >> For the record, that was a really good impersonation. >> I appreciate it. I've been working on that one a little bit. It's huge. Um, >> and ruined. >> Yeah. So, your next PlayStation Avengers game will have Spider-Man in it. >> That was announced by Sony this week. >> Uh, >> well, they had the rights and everything else. I mean, they did the great Spider-Man video game while they still had it.
>> That new one with Miles Morales looks amazing. Well, that's the spiritual successor to the first >> uh DC fandom comes up in 13 days where we will get the details as Rocksteady is working on a Suicide Squad game. >> You know what? Awesome. Uh because Rocksteady has done amazing work with the Arkham series when they picked it up. Uh they I I'm a huge huge fan of the of the Arkham games. Uh, I still got to pick that up. But then again, adulthood and it's one of those where you have to circle back to it.
It's childhood is where you can't wait to be an adult and afford all your video games. Adulthood is when you can afford all your video games and you don't have the time. >> That's why I watch movies. >> That's why I built my Nook. Uh, Disney Plus has passed 60 and a half million subscribers. >> Good. It's awesome. >> It is. >> I love it. >> I put a bunch of stuff in my queue last night just to get so I can got stuff. I've been putting stuff in cues a lot lately. not doing anything with them, but I'm putting them in cues.
>> I did that with HBO Max a lot and I realized >> So, we do want to send a quick shout out to our friends from Carbaret. >> Mhm. >> Because this next story affects them a little bit. Carbet here in the Dallas Fort Worth area in Richardson is where they're doing they have a pop-up drive-in every Friday night and Saturday night. Last night was the last Starf Fighter. Uh I could not make it, but I did have the Blu-ray, the 25th anniversary Blu-ray, so I watched that at home and my wife was like, "Oh, I like this movie." like I know I own it.
Uh I really like that movie a lot. But they're going they're getting they're getting a little bit more and more competition every week. The city of Mosquet's now doing them everywhere. But now Walmart in 160 locations across the country starting this Friday will have pop-up drive-ins that will run through October 21st. Uh there Drew Barrymore will be the virtual host at all the locations which you know for Walmart it works on a couple levels. Hey, I need popcorn. There's Walmart. >> Yeah. >> Uh and there and there will be virtual and in-person appearances by some of the stars at selected locations.
We pray that your location has selected. I'm going to keep that joke alive for Letterman forever because I love that joke. Uh I will be going to the drive-in here in a couple of weeks because I'm going to see coming to America down in Nennis and I can't wait. I got to do that. Oh, did I did I tell you the results of that experiment that Sean's little brother had never seen coming to America? >> Oh, yeah. >> And she has vagged on it thoroughly. >> Really? >> She doesn't like comedy. Funny stuff goes past her.
I don't know what it is. Uh, >> what did AJ think? >> He said it was the best and funniest Eddie Murphy movie he's ever seen. And I said, >> so there's hope for this child. >> So I said, >> does that mean you don't like Eddie Murphy? and like this is a naroscope. He goes, "No, I actually really like Eddie Murphy for what I've seen, but like some of the stuff I've seen is Vampire in Brooklyn." >> Oh dear. >> And I was like, "Okay, we might have to have a talk." And he goes, "No, no, but I've seen like >> he's watched Vampire in Brooklyn, Harlem Nights, and Beverly Hills Cop 3." >> Beverly He's seen the first Bey Beverly Hills Cop.
So, he has he has a scope of Eddie Murphy being funny and good. Uh, plus he's also in that age range when Dr. Doolittle was a thing. >> Yeah. So there's but he has seen some quality from Eddie Murphy. Uh another 48 hours surprised me. He see that >> I enjoy that. Thanks for that very much. >> But he was like yeah no I really liked it. This was really funny. Like did they ever make a sequel? And I was like >> I'm going to need you to hold on. >> I just Coming to America is as close to a perfect comedy as there as exists.
>> I outside of the Mel Brooks universe. >> I unabashed love that movie so much. I could watch Coming to America on a loop. I've seen, >> you know, you know what made me very happy though? >> I had to exp I had to make him watch the credits cuz he didn't realize that Arsenio Hall and Eddie Murphy played multiple characters. >> That's the brilliance of that movie. >> I believe that future watch >> this man be my this man be my my pass. >> They know him as Joe the on the what's going down episode of That's my mama.
It's like I cannot >> put the chicken bones in the collection. I thought it was >> I thought it was a trash. >> But like I I can't tell you how many times I've seen that movie. I still laugh like an idiot >> because it's brilliant. >> And there's just subtle things about it. Like I I want to say it was originally supposed to be a PG-13 movie and then they had Samuel L. Jackson show up for spoiler alert uh Samuel L. Jackson show up for his scene and didn't give him dialogue. So that's all him being Samuel L.
Jackson and a shotgun and it made it an R movie. >> Yes. In the face. >> Oh, I I can't I will say there is a line in that movie I quote an awful lot and I will not say it on this show. >> That and Young Frankenstein could be two of the most quotable movies in my lifetime with the first Airplane being a very close third. >> So much greatness. just so much greatness >> watching watching Cuba Gooding Jr. get an air haircut because he wasn't anywhere close to >> and that's his first movie. Yeah. Him and Sam Jackson that's both their first movies.
>> It when you look at all the people Eric Lasowl, John Amos, Sherry Headley, >> I mean it just >> James Earl Jones that might as well have been his audition tape for the Lion King. I'm not kidding. >> And tell me I'm wrong. No, >> it's 100%. >> That's beautiful. Is that velvet? >> Oh my god. >> That's got to be a watch along. That's absolutely got to be a watch along. >> That is is I guess. >> And when I tell you HE'S GOT HIS OWN MONEY, HE'S GOT HIS OWN MONEY. >> OH, I'm sorry, Dr. King. I thought you were somebody else.
>> You ain't never met no Martin Luther King. Just >> And we can't say what comes after that, but I laugh hysterically. It just like I said it is as close to a perfect comedy as you can ever. And we actually we need to ask this question again. Uh >> oh. >> Because if we ask about Night Rider >> Jay, have you ever seen Coming to America? >> Yeah. So I've seen it many times. >> Okay. Okay. Thank you. Thank you, Jay. >> Because if he hadn't, I was like, "Okay, you're coming to the house after the show and we're queuing up the Blu-ray." Why do I hear duct tape?
I just Louie Anderson, Sam Jackson. >> That's where the big bucks roll in. >> I mean, just >> um >> Oh my god. >> The guy that played the landlord, >> Frankie Faison. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> I mean, just >> Yeah. We want Migga. >> Yeah. It's a real Oh, >> yes. God. >> Oh my god. just and this but this is why I'm so worried about the sequel >> and the call back to Trading Places. Yes. >> Oh well, see I have a two pack that's both of those movies together. >> Well, it has to be. Absolutely. U >> Trading Places Christmas movie.
>> Yes, >> it is. >> Absolutely. >> Uh but what I find is like I've even watching the movie I tried to take myself out of it and be like okay Sean hates this movie. I can't explain that. It's tantamount to wanting a divorce. I don't know. Um, but at the same time I was like, you know what? Let me try and look back and see like where the problems are. And I'm like, >> there are none. You can't >> I can't like I was looking for scenes where I got bored OR SOMETHING. >> YOUR QUEEN. >> Come on, man. Tell me you did not want to rip her clothes off me.
>> Just that and Oh my Jake. Uh, Body by Jake. Jake Jake Steinfeld. >> I'm starting to believe these are the people who stole our luggage. Hey, you want a haird dry? that whole movie. >> We could We've literally quoted a bunch of it now. It's just Oh, >> listen to me. Listen to me. >> Just Why is it every time people talk about white people talk about boxing got to bring up Rocky Marciano? >> Some white boy always got to bring up Rocky Marciano. >> He picked Joe Lewis. >> Look, that's true. >> Joe Lewis was 147 years old when he fought Rocky Marciano.
I just >> has mama wanted. >> If you can get through that entire movie and not at least chuckle once, I need to check your >> I would say that that's a low bar. I'm saying three. There's at least three times you should bust out laughing. >> I I would say at least a chuckle cuz like again comedy is not everybody's bag. >> That's fair. >> But you if you can get through that movie just stonefaced and not laugh, you're not human. >> One of three things has happened. You're not human. You don't have a pulse or you have watched it so many times.
>> I don't think that's it. >> You've become numb. >> No, I don't think that's possible. I don't Okay. >> Or you've gone deaf and blind. >> You might be able to feel the reverberations of hilarity. That's fair. >> Uh if only for uh sexual chocolate and the >> that you feel at the >> just go, >> there's a part of me that wants to drop the microphone. I want to know how the crew even got that movie completed because how many takes did they have to do with certain things where people didn't laugh? >> There's a genuine There's a genuine part of me that feels like with the Randy Watson scene.
>> That's why the camera doesn't move. They only have hard cuts because they set the camera up and left. They just got out OF THE ROOM. >> GIVE THEM as a surprise. Just I KNOW THERE'S A CAR. >> GIRL, you look so good. I want to put you on a plate and sap you up with a biscuit. This, by the way, we have another uh 20 21 minutes 24 minutes left of the show. We're probably just going to do this the whole time. And that's if we go that far. I just h how is that's one of those films that every >> the criterion collection is sorely lacking.
I if I could get a Mondo uber mega version of that movie director's been on the show. >> Yeah, it's true. >> Um just I want a an Eddie Murphy Arsenio Hall commentary track. >> Yes. just them going just watch and it doesn't even need to be factfilled. I just want to watch them watch that movie. >> I want a picture and picture where they start using the voices of the characters as well. >> I'm going tear you apart and your friends. >> Oh, that movie is so >> This is the first date we've been on since the doctor separated us.
>> There's people out there going, "Well, I don't have to watch the movie now." Yes, you do. >> Yeah. >> Yes, you do. >> Far better than us. It just that movie is so brilliant and if you haven't like don't even look into the background on it. Don't look at the trivia because I don't want it to weigh you down because there's a lot going on there. There were lawsuits and mudsling and stuff like that. You don't even want to get involved in any of that. >> Had he had to call the elephant Babar, didn't he?
>> Just you know what? I'm gonna say it now that I think about it as much as we've gone through. That might be my favorite comedy of all time. >> It's up there. I mean, I just watched Young Frankenstein this last week and forgotten how much I love that film and Blazing Saddles and Airplane and >> I need to rewatch those. It's been a while. >> The first Airplane, it's it's up there. >> So good. >> And I liked Airplane 2, but it wasn't Airplane. Especially when you watch it with the commentary and they're just like >> because you know that it's based on an actual no it's based on Zero Hour is the name of the film it's based on and it's so close to the source material they had to buy the rights to the movie otherwise they would have gotten sued.
>> See they've always said it was Airport 77. >> It's based on a movie called Zero Hour >> because they talk about it on the commentary track >> but it just and then you realize how many people like oh yeah that's my sister and oh yeah that's us and that's my mom and that's our uncle and it just I get nervous on planes. First time? No, I've been nervous lots of times. >> Here we go again. >> Just want to let you know, good luck. We're all counting on you. God, >> there's so much great stuff out there.
>> And in in a time where people need to be happy and laugh, there's your list. Start at Coming to America. Go through Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles. Uh if you're overly sensitive, I'm sorry. one >> history of the world part one has to be >> all three naked gun movies >> I could say two first two 33 and a third is kind of meh >> and plus you have the line of that I use a lot >> I love it >> be me I've been swinging raw sewage I love it >> and when you and you look at like you look at the career of Leslie >> Nielsen >> and then you realize airplane was his first comedy like he was known for serious drama and his turn in that completely changed his career.
>> Speaking of changing careers, >> the Hogan Heel turn of careers. >> Yeah. Speaking of changing in careers, did you see the Wow, there's a spot in the vault from movie trading company earlier for Tom Hanks? >> The complete series of Bosom Buddies. >> And what was the theme song to that? >> I don't know. >> Was Billy Joel's My Life >> really >> was the theme song to Buzzy Bosom Buddies. I I don't think there's even Rails existing right now, but we need to find something. I I the next thing I need to get because I don't if I'm going to get it, I'm just going to buy the DVD because it'll never be available on Blu-ray.
It is available on DVD and I forgot to look when we were there earlier. It's a very early Michael J. Fox movie called Midnight Madness. And it is it's on you can buy it on Amazon. You can rent it on Amazon because it's not available for free on Amazon Prime. This was a a it was a Disney movie about a group of teams on an on all night scavenger hunt and that that goes from like a nuclear power plant to a to an arcade to a mini golf course. It is one of my favorite movies ever. >> Interestingly enough, uh Amazon, Walmart, and Target all have it on DVD, >> but I have not seen one physically in my presence in many, many moons.
It's going to be one that I'm going to have to order it or I may just see if if there is a movie trading company locally that has it. >> That would be a shot in the dark >> because well, a lot of the things I've been doing lately have been a shot in the dark. That is also true. >> And we've been doing very well in what we've found as we can tell from the other show. >> Mhm. >> Oh, that that Wrestlemania idea of purchase may be one of the best ideas you've ever given me in retrospect, knowing now what we didn't know then.
>> I always seem to have a great batting average when I'm not thinking it through. All right. Anything else we're missing before we wrap this thing up? We've been vamping for like >> No, this has been awesome. >> Just go watch Coming to America. And like you said, with so much crap that's out there right now, I don't care what it costs you to rent it. I don't care what streaming service you find it on. If you don't want to own it, just go watch Coming to America and forget about the world for a couple of hours.
Just It's halftime. I know. It's my favorite time of the game. I Gabrielle, >> it's you. >> Gabrielle Union. Wasn't she one of the >> No, it wasn't Gabrielle Union. It was uh Oh, I know. Exactly. It was Feather and >> Oh, what's her name? And it was one of the petal girls. The the rose petal girls. >> It was one that I saw her name and went, "Wait a minute. That's who that is?" >> Yeah, she's the one next to Feather. And it it does start with >> Garcia Bouvier. >> Garcia. That's >> Minclair. Sheila Johnson.
>> Uhhuh. >> I mean, just Bill Gordon as Large Woman. >> Sure, why not? >> I just This movie is so amazing. >> Vanessa Bell Callaway, >> Jake Steinfeld, Cuba Jr., Frankie Faison, Uncle Ray Murphy was Stew, John Amos, Sherry Hedley, Eric Lasowl, Louie Anderson, Vondie Curtis Hall, I forgot about that. He was in it. Sam Jackson, Donnai, you said Ralph Bellamy. >> Yep. >> You know, because of the whole coming uh Trading Places connection. Um >> Well, that was the Donamichi and >> Yeah. Like good god.
