jigsaw puzzle fan, and we do them every once in a while, we did one a few years ago that
was a big Disney thing, and it took us a while, but you know, it's bonding, it's what
we do.
Sitting across from me at this desk is my co-hosts in the co-hosts chair, and a man who
is a puzzle wrapped in a nigma with a bow that's a riddle, he is Chad, welcome sir.
That's hopefully complicated, but thank you for that.

be wearing her shoes anyway.

Whatever we do one of these, it is to review something, and this is no exception.
We're going to talk about a movie today that's, that was here earlier this year in
our fairberg, and I missed it, and I didn't get to see it this go around, and I'm really
interested to hear about it.
It's called Puzzle.

This was directed by Mark Turtletobb, as Chad said in pre-street show, former CEO of
the Money Store.
I'm the risotto for the Money Store.

I don't remember.
I can't recall.
So I guess it was an East Coast thing, but the risotto for the Money Store.
But this star is the great Kelli Mcdonald, can I just say it again?
The great Kelli Mcdonald.
A lot of you may remember her as the voice of, what's the name, character from Brave?
Oh, that's her.
Marida, yeah.
I know her from Boardwalk Empire.
And she's also?
One of my favorite shows of the last 15 years or so.
And she was also in a train spotting, was she not?
Yes, you are correct.
Okay.
She had a very small role in the sequel that came out last year as well.
Okay.
She plays Agnes.
And Agnes is a housewife married two kids, family owns an automobile shop.
And she's just kind of unappreciated where she is.
They kind of take her for granted.
And she finds out that she has a knack for jigsaw puzzles.
And so as she starts doing jigsaw puzzles, she meets a man by the name of Robert, who's
played by Irfan Khan, a fan of that guy, he's a great actor.
And she starts to find out who she is and who, because he's kind of a recent divorcee
and he becomes her jigsaw puzzle partner as they start to compete and things happen.
Uh-huh.
I think that's about as deep as we go.
Yeah.
And you know what?
I did all of that by the way.
Yeah.

Because I didn't even look at the MD.
I just looked for people.
I know.
I try to keep it spoiler free.
You did a great job.

I do what?
She does have some of that mental thing where she has very low self esteem too.
And that comes from being underappreciated in her own home.
And a kind of little OCD also in some aspects.
I would say you like a submont from like Rainman, but that's not OCD, sir.
That's not OCD.
I'm trying two different categories.
I'm saying OCD, she's not like either like a submont either, but she has those little
shades kind of a bolt, a little just shades not saying diagnose.
I know.
Okay.
But I just want you to sing your talking about it.
I know.
Trust me.
I know.
I know that.
Trust me.
Mental stuff.
I didn't.
This leave it be.
Okay.
But in like giving an idea when the beginning scenes it's her birthday.
She's the one in the back lighting the candles and bringing it out to the table.
Does that give you an idea of it?
No, absolutely.
And in general, it talks about a scene as well where she's talking to one of her sons
at the auto shop about dreams and things.
She was really big on the cinematography.
Yeah.
Beautiful.
Beautiful.
That it was very well shot, especially from an emotional standpoint.
So I'm more interested in the performances here.
Okay.
I mean, I'm a big fan of Kelly McDonald, big, big, big, big fan.
Some said in her written review that this was a different role for her in her eyes.
How did you see that done?
It is.
She does.
The acting is good.
She does very, very well.
The way she could play that role of somebody who I could get home and get dinner on time
because she's so has to get stuff done kind of she's regimented very, you could say
that very good word for the covering that.
Thank you.
That's what you know.
I don't imagine that.
But the other cast is basically five people.
It's her.
It's Con.
The two kids play Ziggy by Wheeler and Gabe by Abrams.
Yeah.
Bubba Wheeler, Austin Abrams play the kids.
And then David Denman, who from the office, you've just had a thought again with Austin
Abrams.
This kid keeps coming up.
We were just talking about this guy last week.
Oh, were we?
Yes, we were in the less than zero remake.
Oh, yeah.
So we did talk about it in our normal show.
He's also been in the Americans.
He's actually was in paper towns as well.
And if you remember gangster squad in 2013, he was in that also Kings of Summer, a very
underrated film in my opinion.
And he had a small recurring role in the walking dead.
A couple of seats back.
But the rest of the cast besides those five, they maybe have a 30 second one minute spot
in that state.
It's basically those five people.
And when it comes to the acting, I would say that like Denman, if you remember him from
the office, it's that same kind of thing.
He's not a jerk.
He just unappreciates the wife.
Oh, yeah.
He was, you know, I remember him from the office because he played Pam's fiancee.
Yeah, exactly.
And so it's a same kind of mentality with me Anderson, as we go.
Yeah.
And Con plays Con, plays the man.
So the acting is good.
The story line, it's kind of interesting to say the least because I like what they were
kind of doing where when she builds this relationship with Con who appreciates her, even
as a friend, you can say in the beginning, they, she starts to realize, I'm a value now.
You know, someone actually appreciates me and she starts to grow.
Now some of the stuff she does when she starts to get this freedom and starts to get this
independence.
She does some stuff that's not, you were considered nice.
You mentioned that.
Yeah.
And so, and some of that part, isn't that part of the growth though?
I mean, mean.
I would say mean.
Okay.
Fair enough.
She did some means just to be mean on certain things.
So her acting is out of the park on this, how she could play that person who grows emotionally,
how many people can do that in the film?
Fair enough?
Yeah.
So the rest of the family does good.
We all are just really good.
I think from the supporting cast role, I give him the shout out.
Of the family, he really does good.
He's a man trying to find himself and wants to do something more than working his dad's
garage and also has a little self-esteem because the dad, maybe emotionally controls, but
not mean emotionally controls.
Just kind of, I'm the dad, I'm the kind of guy who is more like old school values, would
you say?
Yeah.
You could say that.
Okay.
But he never hits her and stuff.
You could say to emotional argument, you could say, he goes, whatever, I've really hurt
you.
I've done his work for us and stuff like that and I've never been mean to you.
So it's a movie about relationships growing in a lot of aspects, which is really good.
I wish they would show the puzzles more.
More the puzzles themselves because I think they could have got more out of that, more
at the competitions, more than doing the puzzles, how she has that natural ability.
It's like some people are awesome writers.
Some people are great cooks.
Some people can play the sublime as a piano and when you can do that and work that into
something you're passionate about, that just makes it even more awesome.
Exactly.
So I would like to see more of that and how she just like this has something in her head
where she could see a piece.
Oh, that goes here.
That goes there.
I'm at the side without trying to do it.
What did it take you out of it?
A little bit, but not bad.
Not enough to make a difference?
No.
Yeah, I think I just wish I would have saw more of the puzzles because that's the title
here and that's what the ads kind of do.
But I think that it works on two levels.
I think it's about the jigsaw puzzle, but it's also, if I'm not mistaken again, you've
seen the movie I haven't, but I tend to take it also as a metaphor of her kind of putting
the pieces of herself together as she grows.
And again, all I know from this, as I've seen the trailer, and I've read your review

I don't care if people make fun of us for still using the www.

When you listen to this.
That's right.
Well, people, a lot of people do.
And they can all go pound sand as far as I can.
Yeah, but one thing, it was kind of interesting because this talks about marriage and I mean
that fantastic faith forward went to this film.
And she enjoyed it and saw the emotional growing on this.
But there are little things in that film where we're looked at each other and she looks
at me and points at me and goes, that's you and I look at her and I go, that's you.
And then she looks at me and we just start laughing.
So it was kind of cute where if you are in a relationship and marriage, there are things
that you can see.
Maybe that is us and it might be kind of a learning experience to say, and hey, maybe
I need to appreciate my wife more when you look at yourself.
Oh, I'm in a relationship and maybe kind of make you think, yeah, maybe I'm like
that.
And I should stop.
I should be more considerate towards the wife or vice versa.
Fair enough.
Yeah.
So chatting to the other questions that you've got about this thing, no, I'm just glad
I can still breathe.
That's why I muted your microphone.
That little hiccup.
I got a real fast.
The cinematography was good.
There are a few scenes that they show in New York, but it doesn't, you know, say this
is a chamber commerce film.
But it showed small towns suburb of a big city very well.
Okay.
Fair enough.
The Northeast area up there.
So I can see where Jen really saw that.
And she mentioned specifically a scene to where Agnes was looking out the window while
she was on a train that she was very, very impressed with.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's like I'm getting out.
Now the ending on this spoiler free is kind of like, I wish they would have done more
with it than what they did.
Okay.
That's fair.
Was her accent a factor here or was she playing it as, what, I mean, did she affect
an American accent or did she speak in her normal accent?
No, she kind of had that little accent, little bit accent, but it's like you wouldn't say
she's a foreigner or something like that.
Okay.
And she didn't try to blare the New England accent or something like that or the Boston
accent or something.
It should have kept it natural.
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
Well, then let's get to the final analysis.
The way we do the final analysis on the show, we're not going to give you thumbs up, thumbs
down.
We're not going to give you letter grades, numbers, you know, puzzle pieces, anything like
that.
I mean, there's not much you can relate to it.
To be honest.
I'm going to ask Don to two questions.
Question number one is would he see this film again?
The answer is no.
Then we're done here.
But if the answer is yes, then the follow up question I'm going to ask Don is how far
he's willing to go to see it.
From the best of the best of the worst of the best, here's how we roll.
Full price at the theater.
Down to twilight showing.
Down to a matinee.
Down to early morning on a weekend.
Down to a second run at the dollar theater.
Down to actually leaving your house and getting it from red box.
Down to streaming on Netflix.
