Home Show John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum
Rob, Chad, Don, and General review John Wick Chapter 3 Parabellum, director Chad Stahelski's third film. The group praises the film's fight choreography and innovative action sequences, though some feel certain scenes run long. All four hosts would see the film again, with most willing to pay full price or catch a Dolby Atmos screening.

My name is Rob, I am the executive producer of the clubhouse podcast and there is a spoon. This is 459 But I am not alone for this particular episode, sitting in the co-host chair, which is a phrase I have not been able to say in a minute, is my co-host and a man that does not do lazy pocket squares and I respect that. He is Chad, welcome sir.
A lot of thought and care in planning when it comes to square. I'm very picky when it comes to people in their pocket squares and when they do that stupid little rectangle that is lazy yet. That is lazy and you shouldn't wear a pocket square if you are going to do that.
It looks like you got a flattened box of clinics in your pocket. You probably do because you used it for a Diablo you nose on, nobody see or snuck. No, that ain't me.
Continuing on is the official fact checker of this show and a man that doesn't have a pocket square because he doesn't need one because that's not how he rolls. You may know him as Igboonu but his mama name I am Don Ford, I am going to call him Don Ford. You mean a pair for those pocket square things you talking or hot pockets you're talking about?
Not hot pockets, not the same. What we got was one of those red handkerchiefs like you're saying you blow your nose with putting in the pocket. There you go.
That's high class amount, Tanner. That's your boy. No, he's no rounding out the days is the lady of the house and someone whose pocket square is sitting her purse because she doesn't wear them.
She is general. What's up friend? Hello everyone and yes I do have my share of Hankies and some of them are actually passed down from some family members that are no longer with us.
There you go Whatever we do one of these it is to review something and this is no different Because it's time to talk about John Wick chapter 3 parabellum for starts whole thing Do you sure we got thing julie nearby at marock for the invite? We got to come up with a new thing for them because they're not sly fox anymore. So we have to say some different now No, we're not we're not gonna be tmx.
Okay julie at marock rocks I Was making sure that door was there if you smell what marock is cooking no no I'm not gonna use the phrase cheap joke But I can see it here. I'm just okay. Not that I'm above the cheap joke.
Let me be clear on something All right, so Chad stahelski man. I hope I got that close I don't many for those of you that don't know how this whole bit worked For years and years and years he has been the stunt double for one keanu Reeves. Whoa So He gets a hold of this story and he calls keanu and he's like hey man This is the first time I'm ever directing a movie.
Will you do it? It's called John Wick and so he does and The first one I just compared to taken Because taken is an hour and a half of Liam Neeson just beating a crap out of people John wick pretty much the same with a lot more But more of a backstory to though and it builds a good story So then he had john wick chapter two which they had said originally this was set to be a trilogy Do I believe that? No John wick chapter two ends we knew there was a third one coming Mm-hmm.
We were excited about this third one coming and so this one unlike the second one actually had a subtitle Parabellum which is Latin I believe for prepare for war Let me check that it is okay. I just looked at it. I know I know what it trends I say I just can't remember what you and machine was saying when he said the movie Two hours and ten minutes the longest of the three This literally begins as John wick chapter two ends.
Yeah, it's like an hour later. Yeah, I know how to start Because if you remember at the beginning it was five o'clock When she says no, she says remember because they're doing the whole thing in the opening and already says John wick xcommunicado in 60 minutes. Oh, yeah, you're right.
Okay. Yeah, I thought she said at six no in in 60 man Okay, sorry. Yeah, that's it makes that the clock.
Yeah, that's six o'clock. That's what take it's back but part two ends when The thing goes out to his ex-communicado. So it's going back an hour.
Oh, okay, so it goes so it's back They're all checking their cell phones. This is John wick. That's right.
Oh, and then so so he is ex-communicado There's a fourteen million dollar bounty which grows on his head with from the high table The high table is a worldwide network of assassins and they're all out for him So John has to cash in some favors With people who really don't want to cross the high table because then it puts them in the crosshairs Because he wants to look for the one guy that the high table answers to to try to kind of get his life back to some semblance of normal and stop being on the run Two hours and ten minutes Really flies by well. Oh, yeah now Is there a ten-minute section of this film that I would cut? Yes, and I don't want to say any names, but the initials are Halle Berry, but it's a different issue deal lighter It's it's not my dislike for Halle Berry.
That's not it And we'll get to that here in a minute. We're just talking about their conversation We'll get there in a minute. Okay Fight choreography amazing Alex who's not with us tonight.
He could not be with us. He was on assignment He was there all five of us were at the screening which is amazing. I don't know that that's ever happened I don't know so all five of us were there and Alex said in his written review currently located at WWW dot the clubhouse podcast.com That's our website that the the climactic battle scene With with Kiana Reeves and mark.
I can't say it's the same doc the coscos. Yeah, don't you get by stuff never mind Don't be the Costco never mind. No Was very evocative to him of The end of enter the dragon just without the mirrors because they did that in the second one.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah The fight choreography top notch for an American film With very heavy Asian influences.
I loved all the fight scenes. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah I mean, I don't know that there was a weapon that was not yeah, I was out of a slingshot I think it was the only thing in that slingshot and a tank.
I think is the list. I don't think I saw Buzuka. I don't think I saw anything that heavy artillery But oh just in that opening scene alone.
That was a kitchen sink fight. Yes. I mean they literally threw everything in the room at each other And yes, he rides a horse in the middle of New York because reasons and it's cool as that and it's a beautiful horse It's beautifully shot The set designs amazing But for me the the albatross of this thing and Ian McShane Could watch the guy read the phone book.
Yeah, Ian McShane. So I guess I was Riddick. He was on the wire.
He automatically. It's a pass no matter what he does Fishburg Enough said, but how he buried to me is the albatross of this thing Now what do you mean by albatross? Does she fight well?
absolutely The fact that she actually trained those dogs. Yeah, that's pretty dead Albatross she weighs it down. Okay, you can take her entire 10-minute section And by the way, I'm not I'm not lying here nobody can debate me on this They make her presence in the trailer a lot bigger in the film than it truly is.
Yeah You could take her 10 minutes out of this movie and it doesn't change a thing Well during that 10-man's he learned where to go. What's on me? But that could have been anybody.
I know You could have gotten an email and it would have been the same thing But to still I still like that seam with her. I know it's like she's she's mine the Nicole Kim and to you. It's that simple not that bad because I've never met her But you you have you have rights because you've been in a room with that one.
It's like or he's jack black You name it we could go through the list. You know what I'm saying. Let's or will feral.
Okay My thing is I did like that scene and with With those dogs that was an incredible scene with the dogs. No, it was cool But she was add anything. That's what I'm saying.
I don't know about that the dogs added So dogs added to this but again if those dogs were not in the film It doesn't change the film at all, but it was eye candy. It was It was let's watch stuff explode and watch people get to crotch bit and what not And see and see dogs get I mean see dogs get right Yeah, I get what you're I get what you're saying for me if they could have taken the whole conversation pieces with her And the negotiation pieces with her out. Yeah, I would have been a lot happier But the fight scene leading up to her being seen and the fight scene with her in it with the Dogs I enjoyed that could she have been removed from that scene and I've been happier.
Yeah But it also dogs basically Yeah, but it but it also ties to something that don't put in his written review at www.theclubhousepodcast.com Some of the and I can see where and now I don't necessarily agree with this But I understand your point Don where you said some of the fight scenes just went on too long. Yes And not even the fantastic way forward Who right to she thought the same thing on those there are some scenes big some fight scenes at the end with Oleg and say with Asian man Those went long for a movie. It did fight scene.
I think that the Costco's fight went on a little bit too long But I was too then a two then a one all that together was probably about 25 minutes at least I think I enjoyed the opening fight scene more than the The next two then he had but I'm just saying I think the dogs added something to the film In Halle Berry adding I liked it. I thought it made the film better my opinion the dogs did she did but her running the dogs still She was part of the team you know, you know, and you don't you I know how you feel about her I understand sometimes think but it's not and you're about but it's also not an anti-Halle Berry thing Anybody plays that role and that role just doesn't add anything to it. It was yeah, you know like Jay to pick it as fish mooney Yeah, there's nothing yeah Which is kind of a funny time to fight scenes.
Yeah We're 25 minutes. It could been 10 minutes. It honestly could be I was okay with that I liked it but to get back to what Chad was saying about one of the one of the first fight scenes The kitchen sink one if you will You could tell they were having so much fun filming that I think it is the most fun.
I have seen In cast in a fight scene they got to show their skills. They got to show their talents And everybody was enjoying the moment And that was one of the coolest things I've seen in a movie in a long time. It's an action somebody got hurt Though somebody had you got hurt That's something about these series which I really joy There you always show just particular series.
Yeah, the series. Okay. Is they show new innovative ways to kill somebody The library see do I have to say anymore that yeah, yeah, that was an NBA player.
Yeah, but that was that was that You had the writing utensil in part two. I mean there's always new innovative ways I thought when they're in that fight scene with the dogs and everything. I thought I thought somebody since there's Meltic gold.
I thought there was gonna be a game of thrones Yeah, we had a game of thrones actor in there. I don't want to give that away I thought someone's gonna either you know go diving or you know, well, we had a game of phones actor in the first one Who's your main bad guy? I was kind of disappointed.
I thought the Meltic gold. Oh, no, it's something's gonna happen But let's also talk about some of the other people that have been added to this. Oh, yeah, you got you know Larry fishbone Well, he was in two.
I'm just saying we haven't named yet. Okay, you know Asia Kate Dylan as the adjudicator That was an interesting choice. Yes, I thought she did very she creeps me out Let's be correct on this they creep me out.
Sorry. They creep me out because technically she's non-binary It's technically sex wise. It's a male originally He likes Asia likes go by they.
Oh, Asia's a trans. Is that what we're saying? No, non-binary.
Oh The character they play on billions. Yes, it's an exact representation. We play aren't real life They place Taylor on which is a male on billions.
One of your favorite shows. Oh, yeah, and he is the same kind of uh, okay Very unemotional Interesting straight to the point computerized almost like a like an android alien With that straight to the point. I thought Asia was a great pin this film did very job of Anytime you could put Angelic in Houston in something.
I'm good. Oh, yeah But I One of the things that I wrote in my review was talking about a certain person that's in this film that a got their own one sheet But it's you know how they say be careful what you wish for Uh, this is the app's off exact opposite of that you guys know that one of my favorite podcasts that listen to is called How did this get made? Mm-hmm.
How did this get made did an episode of Johnny Namanik? Oh One of the co-hosts of how did this get made is one Jason Manzukis Who said in that episode he wants to be in John Wick 3 He is in John Wick 3 really where he's he's the guy tiktok mr. Witt.
Oh, that was him That's Jason Manzukis who plays who plays Raffi on the league who's one of the co-hosts of how did this get made? Oh He was supposed to be but we you know he was more than that. Yeah So I was very excited that he was in there because I'm a big fan of that dude and he's on the one sheet He has though.
He has his own here is his own one sheet. Wow and on the Angelica Houston I like some of the reality they showed to true ballet dance that doesn't get seen There is a rough deal. It is a rough rough career and Red Sparrow showed us that too indeed indeed, but this this went into a little more which maybe a little Toward the graphic for some people's comfort levels, but it is very realistic What those dancers go through but overall I dug this.
Oh, yeah, I had so much fun with this I'm happy that this exists. I am too. Oh, yeah, but so lots of people know there's no tag at the end of the credits There's no I don't think there was any in any of the It's not known for its tag And I'm gonna say is I read some place read it was supposed to be a trilogy.
That's what they said from the jump. I guess all I'm gonna say is I read it Do we believe it? Anything else where we get to the final Back to the warnings for people this one does have some really good sound effect work.
Yeah During the fight scenes it can get a bit as I like to say squishy And cringe worthy for some people so it sounds of results of fighting scenes bother you be aware going into this film And know what you're getting into and don't show this at the church overnight for the kids. Oh come on That could be fun. Make sure this real doesn't get put on in place.
It was a surgery that plays a role Yeah, okay There it is. All right. Let's get to the final analysis.
We'll be doing the final analysis on the show We're not gonna give you thumbs up thumbs down when I give you letter grades numbers John Wu Bullets anything like that Two questions to this crew question number one is would be would we see this film again if the answers know that we're done here But if the answers yes, the follow-up question is how far would we be willing to go to see it From the best of the best of the worst of the best here's how it goes Bull price at the theater. I don't think this is getting an IMAX release I thought I saw the Dolby Atmos logo at the end, but I don't know this is getting an IMAX release Down to a twilight showing down to a matinee showing down to early morning on a weekend down the second run of the dollar theater Down to actually leaving your house and getting it from a red box type establishment down to a streaming service down to cable Chats and you haven't sat in that chair in many many moons. We'll start with you.
Would you see John Wick chapter three parabellum again? God yes How far are you willing to go to do it? I'd if this if this gets a Dolby cinema Dolby Atmos presentation account me in All right, a ringing endorsement from Chad Don would you see John Wick chapter three parabellum again?
Oh, yeah, definitely How far are you willing to go? I like to say This is the director's only three films. He's done and it's a baby and you could tell it's the same style But my thing is that fight sequence at the end could have been cut some so I can't give the coveted But I'm gonna give a twilight to the full price in between her All right, general.
Would you see John Wick chapter three parabellum again? Oh my yes. How far you willing to go to do it?
Um Probably not late night just because I want to go have fun driving after okay, but I will also be buying it on Blu-ray DVD and a All right, I would see this film again I'm with chat. I want to see this in the Dolby Atmos now. I want to get kicked in the back.
Yeah, I mean Well, you know what I'm saying if you're sitting in that chair. It's gonna Yeah, you're gonna feel that but you know You need faith sitting behind you for that one That's see remind me after you go down. I'll tell you what that scene reminds me of well I gotta say is that scene with in the stables where I've seen that happen in Montana.
That's what we're referring to Yes, and I'm just gonna that's exactly over for it. I've seen stuff like that happen and that was real life That really made me cringe because I seen stuff and there are rumors that that stable may have a connection to this show So we'll have to find that out incidentally if you see what's next on this director slate I did not get a chance today. I mean that would be the remake of one Highlander Hey, there can be only one, but there can be three films in a team directing.
Oh, well, so this is like that's This will be a four film man. Well, I think he's got something in pre-production before Highlander Highlander's been trying to go into production before John Wick, so that's only three things he's directed is the John Wick nothing else because he's been a stunt man He needs to keep doing it. Well, you know 73 credits as a stunt man And I think he really got to start as he's who replaced Brandon Lee after the fact.
Oh really that was his yeah He's got a TV series in pre-production called gangsters of Shanghai. Okay. TV miniseries called rain and the film called killer Be killed killer be killed and then Highlander I'm a Spaniard kill will be so be killer be killed a suicidal college student is saved by a demon who offers him a deadly ultimatum So like death, so you got that going Sounds like a song in a fiddle.
That's a tough day right there But it is Chad's the Husky's latest film. It is John Wick chapter three two Bellams. I'm seeing parabellum You this whole paragraph a Nice nice.
