So, how long have you been doing this for the people that don't know yet?
I've been doing it since 2011, reviewing anime, but I've been doing content for the internet
since 2008.
So, 10 years.
What started you doing it?
Just seeing other people do it.
I saw oddly enough people putting footage of them playing guitar hero and I thought I could
do that.
And then that turned into me reviewing rock band, which turned into me reviewing video
games, which turned into me reviewing anime down the line.

I am from the West Coast, just like you.

So, what are you thinking so far?
Very hot.
Very humid.

I wasn't expecting the humidity.
I've only been in Texas one other time besides today.
And it was a fairly dry there and today is just why the humidity?

Like I thought Texas always was.
Because what better time to do a convention with people in costumes than in the middle
of August?
Right after it rained for a week.

I was thinking and hoping that at the very least this hotel had massive amounts of air
conditioning.
And true enough, it does.
And I'm so thankful for that.
And this is a great facility, too.
We were here.
It's been almost two years.
Since the last time you and I were in this building working on the show that
show I'm not being named.

There actually, I noticed on my boarding pass to it from Vegas, there is a small TSA pre-check
logo on there.
So that's how they know.

I'm like, well, I saw it.

Hello, I'm Michael Yums, the vice chairman of the convention this year.
So we got the big week, sir.
I didn't wear a tie, though.

Neither did I, shockingly.
Sorry, I'm not wearing one either.
So welcome to the show, sir.
We're glad to have you.
How are things going so far?
It is going great so far this year.
Our crowds are moving great.
Everyone looks like they're having a ton of fun.
How many years has the festival been around?
This is anime fest 26.
Oh, wow.
I just heard of this recently, so I'm way behind the curve, then.
This has been here longer than I've lived in this state, sir.
Yeah, we started out back in 1992.
There were 102 people at a little courtyard, Marriott.
Now we're looking at about 12, 13,000 this year.
Is that total over the weekend or?
That's individual people, so total over the weekend.
Oh, wow.
I heard you had a really good opening day.
It was yesterday, the opening day, or Thursday.
We had a lot of people that were here on Thursday, sort of a day zero, but yesterday was our
first official opening day.
So we were talking to some of your staff members and they said it was a really strong first
day.
It really was.
We were a little bit concerned.
We have a lot of folks that are high school aged here at the convention.
And of course, many classes in the Dallas area had started, so you were concerned, but
it turned out that lots of people, you know, they either skipped classes or they didn't
start yet.
How long have you been with the festival?
I've actually been here all 26 years.
Oh, wow.
Did you start on the board or did you work your way up on that?
I've worked my way up.
I started watching doors and back in the day, putting tapes in a VCR.
Oh, yes.
Talk about how the convention has grown.
If you could pinpoint where the explosion happened, where would it be?
There are really two different explosions that affected the anime industry in America.
And those rippled on and affected conventions, the anime convention specifically.
The first was Sailor Moon.
Back in the 90s when anime was first getting started in America, it was 90% male.
Sailor Moon brought in a lot of girls and a lot of cosplaying.
It's made the demographics now about 60% female on here at anime fest and at other conventions.
The next thing that brought in a huge wave of fans was when Tsunami started bringing
more adult oriented instead of children oriented.
And still does.
It does indeed.
And that brought in a much wider fan base than it was no longer the niche.
It's now just something that's part of popular culture.
What got you into anime?
I'm old enough now, gray hair, missing a lot of it on top.
I remember anime from the 70s, things like Gundam and Star Blazers and Star Blazers talking
in my language.
So that is where I got into watching anime.
For me, when I was young, anime always came on early in the morning.
It seemed like.
Absolutely.
I got to see things like Voltron and Star Blazers, which people also know as Space Battleship
Yamato.
And the first year we covered the Dallas International Film Festival, the film that closed the festival
was the live action space.
And I loved it.
Oh, it's great.
It took me right back to that place.
I love that we've gotten to see this day.
Yeah, it's wonderful.
I mean, I never imagined back when anime fest started that we'd ever grow to this big.
The anime was so small back then, you could know everybody that was in the anime community.
And now it's huge.
I love it.
I love that people are coming from all over.
I love that we've got not just international guests, but international attendees at the
convention.
Well, think about it, Rob.
I mean, think about how long you and I have been attending comic book and sci-fi expos.
Almost 20 years.
And I think 20 years.
No, it was 2000.
It was the first one we went to.
I believe so.
No, it was 99 because that's when we got to take it to a convention.
That if you bought tickets to the convention, they gave you a pair of tickets for episode
one when the convention happened.
So, yeah, so it's been almost 20 years now.
And you look at the attendance of an event like this, which back then would have just
been like a subgenre of that convention.
Oh, absolutely.
And it's every bit as big if not bigger.
Even the attendance in general of shows when we used to go and it was up at the Plano
Center up on the north side.
I mean, the amount of people in here right now would have been the equivalent of three or
four of those shows.
I mean, you remember a couple of times they were at Richardson City Hall just in the
hall.
Indeed.
Indeed.
So, again, we've lived to see this day as Kevin Smith once said, the geeks haven't
heard of the earth.
Yes, they have.
And yes, we have.
We put it that way.
Thank you very much.
But in something like anime, too, a lot of people don't understand is like, anime is
not just, there's so many subgenres of anime.
There's literally something for everybody.
Talk about that.
Sure.
There was a time where an anime fan could just say, hey, I'm a fan of anime and that meant
that they were watching anything.
Now, whatever types of shows that you're interested in, what type of movies, is it drama,
is it action, is it comedy, is it something that's aiming to pull at your heartstrings?
Whatever the genre is of a story that you're interested in, there's something there for
you.
There's anime of entire types.
There's the saying in that are aimed at adult males.
There's Shojo, there's Shonen aimed at the teen boys, obviously, the Shonen anime is
very big.
I look at the costumes that are around here.
My hero academia is all over the place at this convention.
But the film releases are amazing.
I love that the Oscars are finally starting to notice some anime films.
Like Miyazaki.
Exactly.
Yeah.
The interesting year this year with the outstanding achievements in popular film that they're doing.
We talked about this on the show last week.
I was out six.
I don't know if you had a chance to listen back, but I don't even know what the criteria for
that is.
A lot of people are saying it's stemming from the uproar granted it took the Academy
a decade, but of the dark night not getting a best picture nod.
Right.
And Matt has turned into this new award.
They're giving away called outstanding achievements in popular film.
I kind of feel like that's my backfire because it's like you'll not made it for this,
but it's not good enough for a best picture.
Yeah, I think it already has, you know, and the fact that mainstream culture is so much
more embracing things like anime now, where it's even extending like it's almost like
tsunamis become the jumping point.
Sure.
Absolutely.
The testing ground.
You've got Amazon bringing in so many anime that's available to all of their prime customers.
You've got Netflix bringing in my anime and getting on anime production.
And isn't Netflix the ones that are doing the new Ultraman?
Absolutely.
Which I'm very, very excited about.
Who's responsible for death note?
And Netflix did that, but that Netflix's version was not received well to my knowledge.
Because it wasn't pure death, you know, right, well, because it was live action number
one.
And for one, and they took a story that took dozens and dozens of anime episodes to make
and tried to make a two hour movie of it.
It's difficult to pull a full con here and story together from that.
They told part of the story.
They told a fine story, but it wasn't the story that a lot of death note fans were looking
for.
It was fleshed out enough.
So I also feel like something like that, trying to do that story in a two hour film,
you were setting yours up to fail to begin with because one thing that I really dig about
the anime in general is the stories are so rich that there's so many layers to most
of the stories that you really have to stick with it and to try to combine that into a single
movie.
It's just, it's such a tough thing to do.
I'm looking forward on that topic to the Battle Angel movie that's coming out.
Battle Angel Alita.
There's an Alita Battle Angel.
There's a Battle Angel.
I think you're right.
I think they're calling it Alita Battle Angel for the live action.
And a lot of people are weirded out by that.
I think it looks amazing.
The CG has gotten just good enough.
It's a little uncanny valley, but it is amazing graphics to be able to show it up.
She looks the way she's supposed to look.
Exactly.
And I think that's what's throwing people.
People aren't used to that style and I'm like, just look at, look it up.
It's pretty solid.
Yeah.
I'm sure there are people that are looking at this and not even aware that it's based
on an anime property.
I think it's a weird looking sci-fi film.
And that was filmed here in Texas and toot Dallas's horn, I'm Edo's lab and the motor
balls scenes are all shot here in Dallas.
Oh, I know that.
So I mean, this Dallas has really become a hotbed with, I mean, it's a
fundamental loan for God's sakes, you know, it's outside Serpent's t-shirt, by the
way.
Yeah, in front of us.

I mean, Dallas has become more and more every year for film and production.
I was talking, we were talking in pre show about, we, a friend of us show that we missed
him this year, but almost every year at the Dallas International Film Festival, Jorge
Gutierrez does the show with us.
The guy that directed the book of life.
And real effects, it's just right down the road here in D Palem.
Yeah, it's wonderful.
Um, we've got the studios and lost cleanists and studio M works with us here at anime
fest during this convention.
So we talk all things pop culture on this show.
You've already mentioned Alito.
What also are you looking forward to right now with anime or not, just in general?
Um, I'm really looking forward in the anime world to the next movie by Makoto Shinkai.
His, your name last year was a simply amazing film.
And I can't, can't wait to see what he does next.
Always looking forward to the next animation by Kyoto animation.
If you, your viewers or listeners watch Netflix, they've got Violet Evergarden is on Netflix
and their, their work is just astounding.
In the live action category, of course, I'm following Star Wars and the superhero movies
who didn't watch Avengers and I'm looking forward to the next.
Both my flight to Vegas and back.
There were at least four people watching Infinity War because now you have this, this, this
screens on the seats in front of you.
And I was like, I don't know if I'd want to watch a movie like that on a plane because I
feel like they would just take too much of it out.
No, why would they?
No, they, they should have all things on planes.
Really?
They show the whole thing.
Huh, I wouldn't imagine why they would do it at that.
So you know how we people are in this day and age?
It's too violent.
I mean, if it was an R rated film, yeah, but yeah, no, I think that'd be perfectly fine.
And we talked about this a few weeks ago.
I just, I don't know why that film didn't affect me.
Like it affected so many people because you're too married to the source material.
I guess because I knew that's how that movie had to end because we knew going in it was
going to be a two-parter.
And so I knowing that story, as we talked about on the show, the Infinity Gauntlet is
one of my favorite stories in the history of comics.
I knew where it had to end if you were going to do it as a two-parter.
Sure.
I was a little surprised it didn't end just with the snap.
That was my point, too.
Remember, I said that.
Yes.
That's when it should just credits.
And of course, people would have gone insane if that had happened.
But I'd be like, no, you don't understand.
There's a reason for this, you know?
I'm sure that was probably considered.
And they're like, no, I don't think we can do that to, you know, they probably need to be
riding in the theaters.
I would have admired the Moxie.
Well, I mean, they had the stones to do what they did.
I mean, I can't really discredit the Russo's too much because I think they've done
very, very well with what they've been handed.
They haven't disappointed me yet.

When you're preparing because you can't bring everything to a show like this because you only have what?
I mean, it looks like you have maybe like an eight eight by four area in most places.
How do you how much of research do you have to do to say, okay, this we know will sell this we think can sell.
Or do you just kind of podge podge it all together?
It's a guessing game.
Sometimes we'll get like new shipment.
And we will just put out the new shipment up there.
And if it sells itself we usually have what's the like the newest figure or like the newest show that has the most figures.
And we'll put those out.
How many times you pack up and go I kind of like to keep this one back and maybe go home with me.
Or do you are you able to separate that like do you have a lot of the stuff yourself or do you just like I see it all day.
I don't have to have it at home too.
Yeah, I see it all day.
So you're not really a collector.
Yeah, no, like before I was at first, you know, and then I just started I started doing vending with this booth.
I'm working with and I'm just like no more.
How long have you been vending?
It's been a year.
I've only been doing this for a year.
And we've done quite a few shows.
What was what was the thing that made you go you know what I think I want to do it this way.
Well, I'm in college and I needed a job.
Fair enough.
So the last convention was eight con 2017.
He had a sign that said help wanted will be paid provided with badge.
So I asked you need.
So you're local.

Because I'm always my next one.
We have I mean, there's all over the country.
Right.

So do you just do go all over the country with them or do you work with them and they're here?
I can just work with them when I'm here next year.
We plan on going or I plan on going to anime expo, which is in California.
So sometimes they'll pay for our trip.
Like, you know, they'll pay for our plane or bus as long as we get there and we help them because it's it's a lot of work.
It's very tired.
I mean, because you're here.
I mean, before the doors open, it's easily 12 hours.
That you're setting stuff up and getting things ready to go.
Do you do you sleep at all before Sunday night?
No.
Because we used to do conventions ourselves quite a bit.
And it's people don't understand what a freight train conventions are.
Yeah.
Because it's like you get here early in the morning, opening day, pray to God, all your shipments are here.
Yes.
Because everything's intact.
And I will tell you this though, doing a convention here in a non-union state is a whole different ballgame.
When I was doing trade shows for a little bit of a living about a decade ago or so, what are you pointing at?
Oh, black machismo's here.
If we would do shows in Vegas, it's a whole different sport.
Really?
Like you can't like you can't haul your own equipment in.
You actually have to ship it through a union company that brings it to your booth.
And I guess that's kind of a blessing and a curse at the same time.
I mean, and every you literally the only thing you can really do yourself is unpack, pack and work.
The unions have control over everything.
Where we're here, you know, you kind of have a little bit more control over your stuff.
Now, do you handle that part of it or do you just kind of show up do the setup work and tear it down?
Do you have to haul anything?
No, I don't.
But hopefully starting soon, I'm going to start driving the trucks around and delivering.
Like so, a next convention is in San Antonio.
So we would leave the shipment here and then we would drive all the way to San Antonio and, you know, unload,
put the figures up and start all over.
What got you into it?
It's a collector.
What was like, what was the brand that you just started collecting and then everything caught fire for you?
Was there a specific brand?
No, just any of my favorite shows is what I collected.
Like what?
One piece in Evangelion and Dragon Ball Z, where my main, you know, I love it.
I'm like, I was like, I was very careful with them and doing vending, I'm tired.
I'm tired of putting up figures.
I'm going to leave them in the box kind of guy.
Really?
I'm a big Funko Pop guy.
Oh, okay.
And I have probably over 50 of them on my desk at work now because my wife told me to keep them at the house.
But yeah, they stay in the box and I'm very OCD, so they're very well laid out.

So now there's a hutch that I have that I'm putting them all on.

She was like a chambermaid for a, for a, for a frat house.
And she was like a big crew fan of all things.
And for some crazy reason, she picked up the phone and was the 10,000th caller after they played the videos for KISS and mountains back to back.
And that's how she won the thing.
And they're, from what I read, that Prince will not make an appearance in the film.
They, well, at least they're not going to have an actor portraying him, but his presence will be felt heavily is what I.

I was like, kind of hard for him to be in it.
Well, I mean, you know, no, no, they're saying they're not going to hire an actor to play him.
Like, I'm sure they're going to have to show clips or something of when he, when he pulls up.
That's the only way I would do it.
Yeah, I don't know that I'd want to try to cast somebody in that role.
But I just don't know how well this is going to play on.

So just talk about some of the stuff that you see at the festival.
What are the, what are the things that you're looking most forward to and jump from there?
Oh, one of the, one of the things I look most forward to probably just seen a lot of the guests, really.
You know, because we're all anime fans here.
And we all have, we all have passion towards characters.
And when we find people that voice those characters, it's like, oh my god.
I feel like, I know, like, I know you because you play this character in a way.
And a lot of the guests are just really nice, really nice.
Like, I can, like, I'll top my head, like, Tia Ballard, Whitney Rogers.
Like, just those two in general, like, they're, they're very nice, lovely ladies, hyperactive though.
You kind of have to have high energy level to do that kind of a gig.
Yeah, yeah, especially Tia, especially Tia.
She's, she's wacky, really.
Have you ever met up or are you familiar with Sunny Street?
Sunny Street, I've actually volunteered for a convention that he was at, but never really got to meet him.
But I do believe I got an autograph from him at one time.
I've known him since he was in seventh grade.
Really?
Yeah, he's, he went to Mesquite schools.
Wow.
A lot of people probably don't realize that, but he and my sister were in choir and band together all the way through high school.
Wow.
So I imagine my shock when I found out he was the voice of Krillin and Tunami Tom.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
The underdog, really.
Yeah, that was, that, that came as quite a shock to me.
And we, we actually interviewed a couple of months back.
I want to say at the USA Film Festival, and her name escapes him right now.
But she did the voice for Mad Moxie in, in the Borderlands video game series.
Oh, yeah.
Her name is completely, maybe you know who she is.
But I asked her if she had ever crossed Paz on him.
She goes, actually, he's the reason I got into doing this.
She goes, I was actually going to get out of it altogether.
And he pulled me to the side and encouraged me to stick with it.
And right after that, whenever her career just kind of took off.
And I will check a thing of her name right now.
But it's, it's totally escaping me.
Yeah.
Voice acting can be tough starting out.
Because like, you know, you start with like, you know, very small background roles.
And it's really tough to break through into like, you know, the more main character.
Right.
Or parts that, you know, everyone gets recognition for.
Like, I know a guy who's just now starting out in voice acting.
And I know he's doing background characters in one piece, actually, that's still going on.
He goes there like back and forth whenever they really need them.
But yeah, it's just really tough.
And I'm sure people say, oh, geez, how hard can it be?
It's a lot harder than you think.
Oh, yeah.
And you really can't, like, you can make some web career of it, but not a full career.
Because voice acting just don't pay much.
And unless you've got 15,000 roles, like, you know, somebody like, oh, what's your name?

Just talk about voice acting in general about how it's, you know, it's, that's one of the things I would love to do.

That's actually something that everyone loves to do.
Because you could live in relative obscurity.
You don't have to sit through hair and makeup every day.
I'm just going to stroll into a studio and I'm going to do some talking.
And there is a skill to it.
Let's just not make it sound like it's nothing.
I mean, there's a skill to it.
But in the advent of conventions, what have I been saying for two decades?
If you can be in one moderately successful franchise, you can work the con the concessions or the convention circuit for the rest of your natural life.
Pretty much.
Because they're everywhere and they go on constantly.

Actually going back to, you know, to the booths like with voice actors, you know, when you're saying like, you don't have to do hair and makeup or anything.
Yeah, like in the booths, I've heard some stories.
Actually Greg, Greg Harris.
I was talking to him.
I want to say last New Year's.
And he'll tell me how he was in the booth doing his part for the main character of heaven's last property.
And he said, he was saying how much he loved it.
And what he usually does mostly is like, he just puts panties on his head and just goes wild.
Because reasons.

Yeah.
Yeah.
But it's just, if you wanted to be out there, it's out there.
That's what I love.
And talk about some of the talent that you're going to have here this weekend for people that haven't had a chance to come down yet.

Just talent in general.
Like artists, there's artists.
There's voice actors.

And just seeing those guys just the way they do stuff off the cuff.

It's just, it's always amazing just to watch that happen.
Like, he did an hour, but if I'm lucky, it would take me like three days.
And it would look nowhere near that good.
It would look like a kid in kindergarten that it with his non-dominant hand.
It's, yeah.
I just, I'm always amazed at the amount of artistry that goes into these things.

I'm really big on art.
And walking through Artists Alley, it hurts my wallet.

I mean, that's like I was, I was saying earlier that I've been in Vegas all week.
And I tell people like, are my office in Vegas for my company?
It's far enough.
It's like close enough to this trip that I can see it.
But far enough away that it's way too heck over there.

Known for just doing like a lot of anime parodies if you basically we take an anime
We make fun of it and we're known for doing the not so no ties. I a comic a kill
Food wars or a chocolate gikin of soma and much much where we have a ton of anime parodies
I just saw I just saw food wars for the first time the other day. I was watching something else when I saw commercial and I went

I voice a little right a little more of the business kind of person
So I'm working really behind the scenes. How long has the schmuck squad been a thing?
I'd say good two years now and how many videos have you guys produced in those two years a lot
We just stopped counting. Yeah, see my my OCD won't let me not count

What made you decide that this was gonna be a thing?
Well, it's I just started off by getting to know friends like with grim jack 69 and coffin jockey
Those are the heads of the group and also buddy VA a lot of the like the main teams
We end up meeting up and enjoying their company and all that stuff and you know
We just got together we became good friends and we wanted to like work together in a much more faster capacity because we all have a passion
We all wanted to work together and we all know that if we work together
We can get a consistent product out and we managed to grow this much to about nearly above a hundred thousand subscribers because of that over the past two years
So I'm honestly really happy you're absolutely something right. Yeah, we're doing something right
We're getting so many supporters. We got so many people who love the show
We got so many people were joining into the panels like they really getting into it and everything like honestly
Us being guests years like it's an honor honestly. I absolutely. I love that. I love that attitude. That's the way it should be yeah
Well as you've watched the numbers increase and this is something I've always I'm very curious about yeah
Does that change the approach you guys take to producing or are you like obviously we're doing this right?
Why would we change anything? Is there any extra pressure on that or do you just do what you do?
Um, we do take the feedback making sure of like things that we will definitely want to fix later
Of course we read those especially we see all the support that people like to bring
We make sure to pay attention to those and just see what what will change and what will not change
But most of the time our style will still be the same by our own from our writers doing their own style from the editors doing their own style
Like everyone is there of their own unique way as one who does the sound design. I love doing the action
I love doing a lot of the comedic stuff and it's always just the way I would do it personally as a sound designer
I never think about like the the priorities are the all the generic stuff
It's just how creative we can get with it. How crazy it can be every time tell people the process
How do you pick what you're going to parody how long does it take to get to the point where you start shooting?
Well, how long does production take how long has it taken post?
It does vary depending on the production quality we have for each episode
Sometimes when we're doing our usual the main show schmucks from the nuts are no ties. I um, we do make sure we have at least one episode
Every month. Okay, and to add on that
I think one of the biggest deciding factors we have on picking our shows is a passion
We have obviously if there's no passion for the show then it's kind of lack
Product-wise and so we need to make sure that everyone on the team or the people that are doing the particular project

Which one sometimes we like to do new shows that's out this season
Sometimes I like do an old show that probably a lot of people heard up
We want to do more justice, you know
Sometimes we might want to do a show that is common
But we want to take our own spin to it. It really varies like we have really no limitations other than that
But all the group will agree on doing I guess but like you know, I mean it starts out as an idea
I mean someone will be brainstorming it's like hey, this anime is really cool. I want to do shorts
How do you guys feel about this and then someone can come and it's like I think we can do it
But this is how we're going to go about it
And then it's really just bouncing ideas off all these people. That's what's great about having a team
This big is you know, it's a plethora of ideas that you know
We can listen to and really improve on the final product exactly what's one that you have a passion for that everybody else is kind of got I don't know

That's very specific I like I mean everyone the team I guess like one that you want to do that
I mean pretty sure that nobody else wants to do is there one out there
There's never been one that's like and at least from what we've always shared sometimes like we bring it up to the guys
Like I for me as a sound designer. I also do stuff for shorts
So sometimes I do shorts for other new shows lately and I pitch it to these guys and they love it
You know, I already we already did like two two one the two minute shorts from a show that's recently came out
I showed it to the guys and it's the way it's edited the way it's like voice acted everything else perfectly solid like it just matters of the delivery
That is what show it is has there been one that somebody else has brought to the table that you weren't real sure about that after watching it made you a fan of it
No, I don't think so I've been loving every single one so far doesn't seem like I have anything that gets against it
There's definitely shows that I haven't personally seen that I was like
Let's see how it goes and obviously they do a fantastic job
For example before I joined the team there was a plethora of shows because I'm a I'm a late addition
So when they were doing food wars
I was like huh in anime about cooking. I don't know if that's gonna be interesting and you know
You see the first episode and you're like what is this you know like I don't this is a really neat shot against
I feel like and then you see the later episodes and everything about eggs just blows your mind exactly and I think
You know the grim jack and coffin the people that do write that particular parody
I mean honestly they they were tirelessly to make sure that every product is good before it gets out on YouTube
And honestly, I was it was really really good and really blew my mind
I think one of the things about anime in general to and you kind of touched on this a little bit is
It's one of the very few genres
where
Rist is in every day bit like
Anime is one of the very few things that I've seen especially an entertainment where
Somebody went hey, let's do it about this and then they do it. There's like there's a fearlessness to trying
New subject matter new stories that I I wish was more mainstream

What made you go we think this needs to be a thing?
What was the genesis of the project itself?
It was it was totally something that I thought at the time it
When other when I saw my the people that ended maybe want to do it
It was an outlet because I used to do like a and V's and all that and I'm like this is fun
I'm gonna act I love editing. I love doing that
But it just wasn't enough and you know time I wasn't an animator
Wasn't anything like that and these things that people were doing just for fun
voice acting and writing I thought it brought a lot more creativity to the table and especially
For the most people did it they really respected the shows and they wanted to add a little more of a fun twist to it to
Appreciate the community of that show in anime in general. So that's the reason why I loved it and jumped into it and really wanted to spark more into
This whole bridging community thing for anime parodies
There's a also in a bridging. It's a very unique medium
You get almost in complete freedom
Acting range like you're being that the visuals are so heavily edited and the scripts are 100% uniquely written
An actor can just get in and just really dig in to their roles and we can make everything sync up
It's a lot like a
Traditional animation in that sense where you can get the recordings in and then have the animation match
So that's it's very appealing as an actor is to be able to go wild on some of the stuff that you do. How big is the team in general?
Still growing. Yeah, we're still growing. I think the last time we tried to take count it was somewhere around 17
Oh, wow, okay. Yeah, and you produce monthly content. Did I get that right?
We have just started to make the move to buy monthly content at least and hopefully
Three times a month or more if things are working out now being the guys that were on the ground floor
And we asked these gentlemen the question too as you saw the numbers grow
Did that change anything for you?
Or did you just like you know what this is what works?
We're gonna stick to our guns and this is what it's gonna be
Has there been any evolution of it or is it still in its spirit the same as it was when you started?
For me
Starting from where I started
I just I want an outlet to make people laugh be happy
I was inspired by people like that when I was at my worst those those things comedians
Anime shows it all it really helped me and so seeing that abridging was a combination of both and that other shows
I got adults to him had these really insane like low-budget things like a sea lab
Yeah, yes, sir that one that was a huge inspiration me as a kid when when I was young
I only watched two hours of that and I would see that and that was a really fun thing for me every night to enjoy
So when I started I just wanted to do it as a hobby something an outlet for me to you know
Express myself like you know any other artists or
comedian wise would do and
To this day I I've been told I'm like one of the most humblest people because every time I'm like oh no
No, no, I'm not like that. I just had like some people when I was on another con telling me
No, you you're great. I'm like no. I just I just make goofy. I just I was up
I'm just having fun and if thank God bless you for enjoying it. We're just having fun
You know and if I'm not having fun, I'm not doing it right
And it's like I hope that never happens where it's like I don't enjoy it, but you know
I really want to just keep going on the current to see where it takes me. What's the property that got you into the genre?
Um, I I was doing a little bit of small things and I really jumped into the devil's the part timer series
My my inspiration
His username is runaway turist
Uh, I had watched other parodies like a dry you know TFS and little crevos
You go a bridge and those things were cool
I enjoyed it, but his version his take which I soon found out was inspired by another guy named
purplized WTF
Inspiring me to want to do it and through the community. I met him
And ended up at one point just collabbing with my inspiration, which I think is very rare
To happen when when that uh because I thought he was a pedestal level and it's one of those I am this is happening right now
Kind of moments. What about you sir? What got you into uh, I would say when I was first getting into it
A lot of what appealed to me was the potential acting wise. I hadn't considered
Uh any intention to rights or direct or edit or anything like that
I would I just thought like yeah, it'd be cool to get in there and voice some of my favorite characters at the start of it
So the the property that first got me into it was was black butler
Which is actually a series that Jay Michael Tatum is one of the other guests here
He's the voice act. He's one of voice actors in that show
So that was if you had that moment where you've walked up and it's like hey man
I got to message him on twitter because we were at opening ceremonies together
And I was like hey, yeah, I was cool seeing you backstage
I think I saw you dab for one second while talking to one of the other guests and then really quickly pretend like it never happened
So that was a fun moment. He's like I try to keep it classy
Don't we all and I think the afterword and that's them this try
We all try to I think that is the operative word and we asked these guys earlier too. Is there a property
That you really want to do but you haven't yet
There is one for me, but I really don't want to say no but there are definitely like future stuff if things are okay
With how youtube is because you always have to be careful

That's youtube for you. I mean we have a soundtrack. We play to our show, but we've had to find a bunch of
Public domain instrumental stuff. I was like people can't use it. We're talking over it
It's just gotten so weird
Yeah, Napster was a blessing and a curse all at the same time
I think a lot of the laws haven't come up to the level of the technology
So there's a lot of weird stuff going on where you know legal matters videos again take it down
We're I think we're still learning oh absolutely and then it really is
It's a bit of a minefield it is because not a bit of a mind and sometimes you feel like wait a minute
Didn't we just clear this oh no now it's now we can't do this and it's and it's because you're absolutely right
It's just they're feeling their way through it too and there's there's going to become a time
I think when it all levels out. It's just good to still be it's been a while. It's still going to be a while

The kids like to say that I've been told the movies right now. There's so much. I know I know there
There's stuff that's airing presently that we're looking forward to more episodes of like overlord uh season three. Yes, that watching a lot of

Um, I know that there's there's a there are a bunch of manga throughout right now that we've been awaiting the anime release of and I don't
I can't guarantee that they're coming out this coming quarter
But I know that we are eagerly awaiting them now for the people that that are listening and that you bring up an interesting thing
You said the manga not the anime. Yes. Can you explain the difference between those two our listeners? Yes
Amanga is the original comic book adaptation of the work. It's the authors
likely one of their first runs on the work that they're doing sometimes they'll have
Another thing like a light novel or a visual novel where they will just have the writing and maybe one or two pieces of art
But the manga works like a comic book in modern day like you would read Superman for the most part
I Superman Batman something like that and it'll come out in a very similar format to that
That's usually how I
series are
Kind of vetted and seeing who likes what see how the reception's gonna be and then the ones that people
tend to be attracted towards tend to get their own anime which are like fully 2d or 3d animated
sections of work
Sir like I want to say whenever I first caught wind of whenever you know my sister told me about what sonny was doing
With what sonny straight had been working on at sonny straight with the high school with his sister
I see and uh that he had just published uh

And I wouldn't track that down on the I was supposed to get it signed by him whenever she went to her classroom union

There so people understand the difference when people mention a manga versus an anime. They're not the same thing
They're related to each other, but they're not the exact same thing
Now there are some distinct differences and a lot of times they'll be main you can see manga in mainstream things
Like how many times did we see Star Wars manga?
Done where that's not necessarily going to turn into something
But it's something like a graphic novel or a regular novel you can pick up with the people have drawn to get into it
Just an adaptation of it. All right. Anything mainstream you guys are looking for right now

The infinity gauntlet is one of my favorite comic book stories of all time
And I didn't see like they went to a screening of it. I didn't get to go to the screening
I was out of town. I believe that week and I went and saw at the following week
And as much as I did enjoy the film
It didn't affect me the way it affected people and I think it's because
Number one we talked about this. I knew it was going to be a two-parter
So and I was like if there's any justice to this story
I know where this is going to end
So I didn't have that emotional oh my god at the because I'm if it hasn't been spoiled for you
I'm not spoiling it for you
The ending of it. I was like
Yeah, that's that's what needed to happen
Let's get to next year so we can put the rails back on and I mean I saw the entire thing to the ending
And I guess you could say for closure if that one comes in first spoiler alert
I do want to see that captain Marvel movie. It's coming. Yes. I want to see it
February I think it's
Because part two is in May so it's it's March of next year. Okay. Yeah
And that's the only one we have left now that at Amin and the Wasp is coming on
That's the only one we have left until part two
And they have said that Samuel Jackson and Colby smothers will both be 25 years D aged through the they're not just they're in the entire thing

So I I've seen some of these stills that have come from the set and so far I'm okay
This is just the very complex character
That I'm and I said the same thing about Dr. Strange. I love Dr. Strange
I knew there was no way my vision of Dr. Strange was gonna hit the screen because there's so much involved with that character
There's no way you can mask mask market that character and they didn't completely dumb it down
Which I respected
And it was just dumbed down enough that it worked
But there's so much more to him than just what was on that screen
But I was I enjoyed you know the MCU
I can't say hasn't come I mean there's there's been a couple of films where I've kind of been like
That was kind of a thing but they for the most part they've at least lived up to the hype
I just wonder how much longer they can keep this up
Well, I mean we've had a we've had the occasional clunker
And the MCU just the occasion with a distant and stick the landing like like
Oh first couple of Thor films or the second Thor film for sure the dark world was
kind of garbage. Yeah
and
Ironman kind of went off the rails a little bit Ironman 3 was bad
But for the most part it's been pleasant surprise after pleasant surprise I can
I can't or I can't believe the consistent level of excellence has been pervasive through
20 films. It's just it's mind-blowing
How how they manage to keep that level of quality up for that long for 10 years
I was just really hoping we get at least an animated version of the Thanos quest
We have no they've never gotten an animated
Really that was what I wanted them to do because I wanted it to be I wanted Infinity War to be
Once he got all of the stones and go forward from there
I thought they did like in the in the mid-delay
Like like not too long after the stories themselves got published. Uh-oh
They did it was a graphic novel series that they did called the Thanos quest. Yeah, but they never brought it to the screen
Wow, I thought they'd done a small screen adaptation of it at one point. I mean we'll get that probably the day after we finally get our animated
Shadows of the Empire film or or my animated Camelot 3000 film. Oh, that is your that is his favorite
story of all time. No pun intended. That's my holy grail. It truly is

Collections of like four or five arcade games and making them into like scaled down
Smaller cabinets like they're not like a huge six footer something you could fit on a like a countertop
Well, no, no, it's a little bit bigger than that. Oh, is it like because I thought they had made versions of it that you could put like on a bar top
Kind of like the old mega touch screens. No, no, no
The way that the way that it comes when you put once you put it together you can sit in front of it at a chair and be comfortable
Okay, if you're standing up you're gonna be kind of cringing your neck down like you're constantly looking at a cell phone
But they sell a base where you can actually lift it up off the ground a little bit. I like with washers and dryers
Yes. Yeah, they're doing then they've got one. It's like
several street fighter games
One that's got that's mainly the vector graphics and like asteroid space war things like that
um
Oh shoot. I'm for I want to say once got defender
Um, there's a defender of your gender. Uh, they've got one that's like the track mall games like crystal castles and uh
missile command and synopeed
I want the one that's got the multiplayer like three control stations because you've got rampage gauntlet
The ones I've really and these things are retailing merks. They're they're the merks. I don't think merks
I enjoyed that game very much uh, but like major this isn't something like it's like you can only get it like at a boutique store
Like best buys carrying these game stop is carrying walmart's carrying walmart's carrying them right and they're retailing
Like depending on where you go and what time of year you're getting them
Uh, between 199 and 299. Oh wow
That's not expensive at all. No, and this thing like but it's five games, right? It's five games per cabinet
That's what I want to me because this is one of like 80 games in there. No. No now. Will it support?
Will it shock me at all once these things hit the market if modders immediately
Hack into this thing and make it where you can play everything in it from what I've been here in lately
Nintendo's going after the modders pretty hard right now. Yeah, they went after uh, I think it was
M.U. Paradise
Uh, a ROM site that's been around for years ever since them the
the home um the home modding and home arcade scene really took off
M.U. Paradise. How about make more games and or make expansions on your on the games you're making?
It's that's what I don't understand. That's what I don't understand
Like you did that with the Wii and the Wii U to where you got your virtual console up and running
Anyway, we'll look constantly feed money into it. It's a it's a you've already got the games already exist
And there's no overhead. There's no yeah, you don't have to make the you don't have to make the discs
You don't have to make the cases you don't have to make the guides here here
And that's why I'm annoyed when I want to download a game, but it's going to cost me
Within two dollars of what it would cost me to buy it physically. Right. That doesn't make any sense to me
No, it really doesn't outside of you just want to save space
Now I've kind of gone that route lately because honestly you and I both own Xbox ones. Yes. I do when you buy a disc-based game on your Xbox one
What is the first thing it does downloads it to the hard drive on installs it to your hard drive?
Now does it install the whole game? Yes, okay, so but you need the disc in order to operate it
Basically the disc is nothing more than a key once it's installed. That's weird
So so my so the point remains how much does that disc really mean to you?
Just take it up real estate exactly
So that's why most people like myself have gone out and bought like an external three terabyte hard drive
And I've crammed like 300 games onto a hard drive on my Xbox one rather than having a shelf full of games
And all I got to do to pull the only reason I'm using it is just to make the game playable the games already on my hard drive
So you may swap just buy the digital copy and leave the physical copies got a couple new tables on my pinball fx3 recently really what
One of them's like a funhouse type game. It's like you place it takes place in amusement park. I very much enjoyed
Now is this a new release? I don't know because I've been looking it's a new release since the last time I played it

Thank you. I appreciate that. We're kind of terrified of your weather, but I'm sure the feeling is mutual
We're terrified of our way
That's good. That's yeah, I was just saying I've been in Vegas all week for work and I'm like here like well
The dry heat or like it's a whole this is a this is a different sport of hot. Yeah, because like I was saying out there
I went to the gym and by the time I left the gym and got back to the hotel room like all the sweat had dried out on my shirt
Okay, here. There's no such thing. You're just going to sweat until you die. Yeah, pretty much
But you know kind of like that too, but not quite as bad. But if you get a kimono
They breathe that's true. I have ventilation my sleeves are open here. How long have you been making kimonos?
We don't make them actually we import them. Oh, okay. Yeah, well our business started in 2014. Okay
It's my sister and I and it's a family business
Our mom helps out too and so we basically got the idea back in
2010 to import Japanese goods straight to the states and
Kind of studied the system and try to figure out the best ways to get kimono to the states and now in 2018
We're the largest kimono importer in the country
We've been featured on Japanese TV
Twice now on a prime time hit show called you and nani shini nipone, which translates to you. I know right
But it translates to why did you come to japan
Are you serious? No, I'm so serious. It's I'm so serious
I feel like I could do that ever so like why did you show up at my house? Yeah, it pretty much, right?
And it's it's a really um
Popular shows so it's really helped us expand our business over the last uh about eight months since my first appeared on it
So now we are importing j fashion to straight out of how did you go?
So our our newest line is acdc rag
And it's it's just all over how did you go there's only two places to get it in the states one place in California and us
So you say it's a family business. Mm-hmm
Are you and your sisters the first or is this something that you
Have taken from other members of your family? We're the first
So what what made you get into it?
We have been fascinated with all things from japan since we were very young children and we were encouraged by our parents
So um my sister has a master's degree in art education and our parents always encouraged her in art and in studying Asian art
And so we say it's a family business because even though sherry and i run the day-to-day operations a lot
Um our mom is also just really heavily involved in it as well and our dad
It's also an attorney. So he handles all of the legal stuff and sometimes when we have to argue with customs
We get him on the phone. So it's it's a whole joint effort
So i've had this guy and retainer forever
Oh just speaking from personal experience. Have you ever worn one of these things?
I have not see i have yeah and i know what gets you into this
Wearing one yeah, yeah, it feels fantastic
It really does that's hey that's hey you wear one of these in the middle of august at least it breathes
I mean it's it says that they're wearing all black, but that's a whole different issue
Yeah, that's true. Yeah, all right. I mean you're at a convention. You're gonna be wearing black t-shirts, right?
Well, I've got to wear my show shirt. That's my whole thing. There you go. There you go
Yeah, so we got into it um in part because of my sister's master's thesis research in japan
She was on her thesis trip and went to mount koya
Which is basically the birthplace of japanese buddhisan and was on the mountain Skype messaging with me about how all the amazing things
She'd seen and how you know we've had this idea kind of kicking around
But we really got to do it and that's when we decided we're gonna make a go of this
We're gonna make a go of this business and she was eating tangerines at the time
So that's why our business is called tangerine mountain nice nice
A little bit of a story behind it and tangerine dream was already taken
Well, yeah pretty much right right? So yeah, she got back to the country
And then we just started working on figuring out how to get everything from japan to here
So how many shows do you do a year?
Um, I think we're at about 36 now. We've been adding shows left and right this year
We added anime expo at the last possible seconds
We were added we added non-discon in colorado a couple weeks ago to our schedule
We started the business thinking that maybe we do five or six shows a year and maybe help pay off some student loans
And some of our dad's expenses because he's um going blind
And so he's doing pretty good, but you know, we kind of figured maybe we'd help mount and
And we got invited to about 50 other shows or 50 years
So you went from five to six a year to three a month
Yeah, pretty much so
That's how you get to be the best the biggest in america
Exactly pretty much though and and because we work with people in japan on the ground
We've not only studied that, but we also have relationships with um, you know, shipping companies distributing companies
You know, we have a lot of relationships that we
rely on in order to get pieces to the states because that's really how you do business in japan what's what was the biggest
Roadblock you have you've had to deal with so far
um
One of the biggest roadblocks I think we've had to deal with is well one is just the logistical challenge of
Getting literally tons of kimono to the state. Oh, I think just import fees itself
Just yeah, just navigating that process and coming up with the least expensive way because our goal is to get kimono into the hands of
It's many people as possible. So our lowest price point for kimono is $30. Oh wow
$30 for kimono and obi so in japan you have to pay extra for the obi and the obi is the sash and that's the sash
And you know, I know that yeah, do you know crossword puffles?
Christopher Puppels ob obi is a very common word used in crossword puzzles. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, so I'm smart. We
And modest too. Oh very very modern
What do we say on the show that I am the smartest man alive? No, let me clarify something here. We don't say that
You say that about your sister. Say what that I'm the smartest man alive and you can use
You can keep repeating that it doesn't make it true
I could tell you more things so make it even more. I mean, let's do it. Let's do it. I'm like yeah
Yeah, I mean, you know, so yeah, basically
That's that's one of the biggest challenges is getting to know how to basically get things from point A to point B in large quantities
So that we can afford to
Sell things at a very reasonable entry point a lot of our customers have never worn kimono before
So we walk them through that process. That was actually going to be my question. Yeah
Yeah, there's multiple pieces to this. It's not like it's it may look like a road, but it's not a road there
There is an art to this process exactly. Yeah, and then probably the other major
Difficulty that we have is just working with the
I think almost I want to say like mental barriers that some of our customers have where they'll say well
I'm too big or I'm too small or I'm too fat or I'm too short or you know and kind of trying to overcome
I'm too macho. I'm too masculine
No, it's the same thing in the garment trying to overcome their insecurities to get them to try this now
Fortunately, and I'm a fastalist people are just diving right in like our booth is absolutely slammed. Yeah, we walk past
I'm like, we'll come back
Yeah, every every time your producer kept coming back is like um, we're like
A few more minutes because we're so slam right now, and I'm sure he went. No, you're making sales. You take as long as you need
Yeah, I'm pretty much
Low price you have on display is beautiful as low price point is 30. How high do they go?
On the show at the show today we have two wedding pieces one in a thousand and one at two thousand
We can go as high as 20,000 in our showroom near Chicago. We have a 3,000 square foot warehouse near Chicago
Um, about 45 minutes. So this is not just a mobile business. You have a brick-and-mortar in the great city of Chicago. Yeah
Okay, we have a showroom. It's open by appointment because we're on the road so much
Um, but we do do showings for people. We have pieces that we don't bring on the road because they're from the it'll period
They're from
Yeah, well, we're just fragile, you know, maybe from the 1830s 1840s
So it's getting a little hard to just throw that on somebody and just have them walk around a convention
Um, and yeah, we have wedding pieces up to 20,000 dollars, but the best vast majority of our stuff is under 100
Because we want it to be accessible to as many people as possible
I just lost my train of thought when you just talked about some of these pieces that you have like that's amazing to me
Yeah
What's is there a piece that what's your holy grail right now? Um, my holy grail is probably an atop period fireman jacket
That's what what I want to collect. Um, I don't know that I would sell it
Well, yeah, because sometimes there's pieces that you want that no you can't have it
Exactly um, my other holy grail it was an atop period
Complete set of Sam and I armor and I do own that now
So that's on display at our office and I have worn it, but I was a little afraid to bring it to
A show here because of the heat. Oh, absolutely. I didn't want to fall over
But yeah, because it's it's because that could happen. It's extra. Let me tell you
It's extra
Do you get a lot of people requesting certain pieces? Yeah, how do you handle that? I mean is that
Is that one of those we can put this on order for you?
But we need to do it when we can have x amount of things that we want to order or is it one of those right?
The check-in will order it right um, it depends on the type of piece
So we get a lot of requests for example for plus size Yukata and the way we handle it is
They're very hard for us to come by even in Japan
So we work with our distributors to basically say okay, we we need
In like three three L's and four four L's and we need sixteen five L's or whatever and then
They send us what they can and then we try to match things up with customer requests as best as we can
And if I could import literally a container full of plus size Yukata all at once
I totally would but I did just they don't they don't have that quantity available to us as of right now
But for other pieces like for armor for example, we can get armor
It's usually more of a back-and-forth process and which we're communicating with you
Okay, we've got these options here. Which one do you like? Let's get you a quote on it and you know work that out
How long have a process is that normally take it can take I mean
I've got a couple of customer requests that are more than a year old because they want things that are very very
specific and
It's very hard to come by and it's like when it comes up
I will you know if I've got one of my people out in Japan who says hey, by the way
You're looking for that red and hoody soda juban from like the 1920s that has a 41 inch sleeve
By the way, I have one and we're like okay, stand that now. We need that
But sometimes it's it only takes a couple of weeks, you know, it just really depends on the type of item and it is
Do you have to take a lot of time from a measurement standpoint or are most of your customers know what they're doing when they come in the door
And say these are the measurements I need
Because you mentioned that that's specific for you wanting to sleep. Yeah
It depends we have a whole range of people who shop with us
We do have a lot of first-timer so a lot of times people will just say I just want something pink
And it's like okay, that's pretty straightforward. We can get that within like three four weeks whatever
Um, but we also have some kimono aficionados who have been wearing kimono for a long time
They're very deeply into this and they need very specific things
So then those are the kind of people who hit us up with you know
I need this type and this measurement and this detail and that so it just but it depends on the customer
When you when you've got somebody who's a first-timer
Take me a little bit through the process of how
Because being in sales there's a difference between what they think they want and what you know they need
Right, right, right. What kind of a process do you go through to to you get to that place of commonality of oh
This is what I really want. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Um, okay. Well
One of the things that I like to tell people is what colors do you typically wear?
What are some of the things that are just you always default to most people have
Kind of a narrower range of colors than the entire available
Pantheon of colors that they typically wear
So a lot of times we'll start there because most first-timers can at least tell me like their favorite color
Um, and then from there we kind of go through here are some options here
We also take into account body size and type
So if I have somebody who is particularly tall for example
I'm going to steer them away from kimono that are from the 30s or 40s
Because people were a little shorter then and a lot of the really vintage pieces are not really going to accommodate that kind of size
So we kind of get people into you know
You want to try for this you want to stay away from that and things like that and sort of walk them through that process
And then from there once they pick something then we get the kimono on them
We tie it off with a sash um to basically adjust the height because kimono used to be worn long and trailing
And then more than a hundred years ago people basically decided well
It's easier to keep it out of the mud if we sort of tuck it up at the way
Yeah, so so that's tucked up and then from there we put the obi on
We have a couple of ob ties that we typically do with first-timers that are very straightforward
And there's something that they can do on themselves and then just scooch around to the back once they're done
So they can stand in a mirror
Tie this bow or you know tie this loop and then scooch it to the back
When they're done. So we've tried to streamline the process as much as possible
And that's another reason why we've gotten so big so quickly
Because our idea is to make things as approachable as possible so that people aren't going oh my god
What do I do with this thing? So yeah
What is your go-to like you're just at home relaxing? What's your favorite one to wear for yourself?
Oh, let me think um
I have probably a good 300 pieces in my collection
And it's sort of like picking among your children. I don't think that's what you was gonna say
Don't make me pick one one of the ones that's probably my favorite is the one that I'm wearing right now
It features little twin stars from Sanrio and I've loved little twin stars since I was two years old
So wearing this one as always was that one that you just came across or was that one that you had done?
It's one that my sister managed to finagle out of one of our
Contacts in Japan and it actually was a three hour conversation with customs to let it into the country
Because of for sale in Japan only but because we got it from a distributor right of for sale dictates that we can buy it off of them
And we eventually had to get our dad involved and and have him explain. Hey guys
This is what the law is so you really have to let us into the country
Well, you've probably got a bazillion people up there waiting for you

I will say we start kind of planning right away maybe in like a week break we give ourselves about a week breaking

Certain departments start a little bit later. So my department personally, I will start planning around December
So you get a couple of months to breathe so I get yes
So because we talk to a lot of administrators like I get two days and then we start planning. Yes
So yeah, fest ends on Monday. We're planning on Tuesday. Yes. Yeah, that's because for for our charity
I've told everybody enjoy labor day week. It's for planning 2019 the next week
So just definitely depends on department my department. Um, I kind of started around December
My story around November just to give a historic go
so yeah

I just took over press and they said hey, we need you to do something with this department

So this is like a my own creation. So you said in your emperor's phone and you're cackled and acting
Once the show starts do you pretty much just go on cruise controllers that when the adventure really begins for you?
That's when it because I know it's sarachi. He's been hanging out with us
So he's he gets a couple of hours just to kind of just kind of kick it with us
But I mean are you just constantly on the move? Do you kind of get some downtime? How does that work?
So for me, I'm running around constantly. So um when it comes to convention if you're
Supervisor to manager then everything's gonna get so much harder when it's show time
Like really or if your director is even worse
I'm I got maybe a couple of hours to sleep in the last couple of days. So that's pretty good
But you knew that was coming
You you you you amped up on Mountain Dew and all that stuff. I was ready for it
Um, and I'm lucky this year because press is kind of light. Um, I made the hours a little bit shorter
So I can get a fill. I wanted to do a little experiment with press
But next year I'm probably gonna make a press a lot longer on Saturday probably about 12 hours open on Saturday
And I'm probably gonna open it up on Thursday as well. Okay, I understand it a lot
Get that thing off the mic stand
It's driving me crazy. I mean do you I mean do you have to be present for like because I know there's like the after hours stuff
Or are you just more responsible for the hours of the show itself?
Um, I kind of so
For most part, I'm more responsible for the show time hours
And when my where my department is operating
Um, occasionally though they won't want managers to be in a day before so they can sit up
And then they won't sometimes want to manage to be a day after you know everything's down to kind of break it down
This really depends on the department. So like logistics has it really bad
Yeah, logistics especially for any kind of show is all it can always be a bit of a nightmare
because
You're the guys that are they're the first ones in the door. You're the last ones out. Yeah. Okay, Don that was not funny

I'm not sure what that's about and you never have that problem with us. We tell you we're gonna be here

I mean, this is our ninth year. So we've been we've been doing this for a minute
You guys came with a table with chairs and everything
We have chairs available. I was told I didn't have to bring the chairs. There is one question. I have to ask

But I'm planning on staying sticking around in a festival row
I mean, this has been an amazing show a lot just a lot of people coming through some amazing cosplay
You know all the panels have just been lined up. I tonight is the orchestra correct? Yes, it is
We've been seeing them come in a little bit at a time talk a little bit about that event
So that's like it was pretty big they were blasting on social media like hey come check this out
And um, I remember this organization from before um, I was working for a different con
This other kind of wanted that organization to come in but they decided to go a different approach and like
From what I've heard it from these guys, they're really good. They're just amazing
